- Abstract
This volume arose from an attempt to find a new way to approach the shrimp aquaculture's future, facing up to the central insight that a global, technology-driven blue revolution will require new forms of governance to match the technological and social changes brought by innovative aquaculture practices. Each chapter contains evidence-based background information emphasizing core science, intended for the professional who already possesses a basic understanding of the principles of shrimp aquaculture and layout of each chapter includes a table of contents, materials and methodologies and a concluding set of objectives of the experimental study for the better understanding of the subject matter to the readers. The aim of this book is to provide a basic understanding of the modern culture techniques currently used in shrimp aquaculture research, primarily for vannamei, such that readers can develop an understanding of both the power and limitations of Intensive systems.Recently, in the scientific literature, there has been a profusion of information pertaining to many advanced culture systems such as raceways, reciruclatory aquaculture systems and many advanced culture practices such as biofloc technology and probiotics based culture practices. The material covered in the chapters of this book provides background to newcomers interested in Intensive shrimp culture techniques and a description of the current state of research and scientific understanding of advanced systems and standard management practices in regards to environmental sustainability of shrimp aquaculture would be much more helpful for the farmers and the industrial stakeholders. For researchers currently working in the field on specific culture systems and practices this text provides invaluable information that relates innovative intensive culture systems. Note: T&F does not sell or distribute the Hardback in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

- Abstract
This research is a two year study on the effects of endomycorrhizae on vegetable production using conventional vs. organic practices. Objective of this study was initiated to determine if mycorrhizae improve yield, available soil nutrients and soil quality from two different fertilizer sources. Measurements were taken on yield, available soil nutrients, and soil quality in comparison of glomalin production and soil loss percentage. Two plant species were chosen, Tomatoes ('Big Beef') and Bush Beans ('Tenderette'). A randomized split block 2 x 3 factorial treatment arrangement was used with two crops and three different inputs: Mo- 0 mycorrhizae, M1- recommended rate, and M2- 2x recommended rate of mycorrhizae. Each mycorrhizal input was replicated three times in both the conventional and organic system. Results show there was no difference in yield based on mycorrhizae additions at any rate. There was a significant yield difference based on conventional production over organic production in tomatoes and snap beans in 2010 and tomatoes in 2011. Possible explanations for yield difference in the organic production system include: different insect controls and a slower release of nutrients from poultry litter. Available soil nutrients were not influenced in the study based on mycorrhizal inputs in inorganic or organic tomato production. Soil available nutrients were significantly influenced in organic tomato when compared to inorganic tomato production at selected sampling dates. Mycorrhizae did not influence soil fertility in inorganic snap bean or organic snap bean production. Soil available nutrients were significantly influenced in organic snap bean when compared to inorganic snap bean production at selected sampling dates. Glomalin production and soil loss percentage were not shown to be significantly different within organic or inorganic treatments based on mycorrhizae inputs. However, glomalin production was shown to be significantly greater in organic production.

- Abstract
This thesis is concerned with direct interactions between energy transmission facilities and agricultural operations. The objective of this study is to determine to what extent government regulation is advisable where energy transmission facilities occupy agricultural land. The area of electrical transmission line and pipeline rights-of-way within the Agricultural Land Reserve of British Columbia was found to be approximately 174 km² or about 0.37% of the Reserve. Impacts to farmers were found to vary with the type of agricultural practices and the type of energy transmission facility. On intensively farmed land, electrical transmission lines could increase the cost of irrigation by as much as $1,000 per year, per kilometre of line. Land loss due to transmission line towers was found to reach 345 m² per kilometre of transmission line. A wide variety of other impacts were also found. In grazing areas, impacts to agriculture were generally positive. The clearing of electrical transmission lines could increase grazing capacities by 10.4 animal unit months per year per kilometre of right-of-way. Pipelines were found to have less impacts on agriculture than electrical lines. The most serious impact was yield loss along trenchlines on fine textured soils. The maximum value of such losses was $500 per kilometre of pipeline. The cost of energy transmission facilities avoiding farmland was found to vary greatly with terrain and location. In many situations this cost can exceed $100,000 per kilometre of right-of-way, which is significantly higher than the value of any impact they can have on agtriculture. Federal and Provincial regulation of energy transmission facilities requires the compensation of affected persons and the reduction of negative impacts. Deficiencies in both processes were found. New Federal Legislation will increase the protection of affected persons, but unclear jurisdiction and problems of accurately assessing impacts will persist. Provincial regulation i

Typescript memoir of the life of Mother Jones, entitled "Mother Jones: the Life Story of the Irish Immigrant Girl Who Became the Most Unique Character in the American Labor Movement, Living Past 100 Years," written by Lillie May Burgess of Hyattsville, Maryland, and copyrighted 8 February 1938. The manuscript is in two parts, several pages of which are missing. The first part (241pp.) is entitled "The Life Story of Mother Jones: American Labor's Joan of Arc," and is a narration of events in Mother Jones' life. It includes a description of her early years, before she became a labor activist, and some of the highlights of her labor career. Her activities in organizing miners in West Virginia and Colorado receive most emphasis, but also included are her activities among women brewery workers, her participation in the 1919 steel strike at Homestead, Pennsylvania, her interest in the Mexican Revolution of 1911, her views on woman suffrage and prohibition, her meetings with various presidents and John D. Rockefeller, Jr., and her friendship with Terence V. Powderly, fellow labor activist. The narration follows closely that of THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MOTHER JONES, published in 1925 by Charles H. Kerr & Co., Chicago, Ill., with the addition of some chapters on her life after 1925. The second part (106pp.) is entitled "The Last Years of Mother Jones (Personal Reminiscences)." It is a narration of the later years of Mother Jones' life, ca.1927-1930, most of which she spent under the care of the author, Lillie May Burgess, at the Burgess home in Hyattsville, Maryland. Mrs. Burgess relates the circumstances under which Mother Jones and she became friends, how Mother Jones came to live with the Burgess family in 1927, and what these years of her life were like.
