ABSTRACT Aims and Objectives Background Design Methods Results Conclusions Relevance to Clinical Practice This study aims to understand the family experiences of disabled elderly people facing adversity from the perspective of family resilience and to develop a theoretical model to explain the constitution of family resilience.Family resilience is the ability of families to cope with, adapt to, and recover from significant stressors and challenges. Although some studies have focused on disabled elderly people, the components of their family resilience have received little attention.A grounded theory.A total of 30 participants were selected by theoretical sampling, and all participants were from families with disabled elderly people in Chengdu, China. Data were obtained via semi‐structured interviews. The COREQ checklist for qualitative research was followed.A theoretical model of family resilience for disabled elderly people was established based on three categories: family organisation, family beliefs, and family relationships. Family organisations include the organisation model and resources; family beliefs include coping styles and adversity remodelling; and family relationships include communication and atmosphere.These categories suggest that there are several similar components of family resilience for disabled elderly people, which can be used to understand how families cope with this challenging experience by adjusting their roles, resources, and perspectives. Our findings are believed to offer significant theoretical and practical implications for improving the resilience and well‐being of families with disabled elderly members, improving the effectiveness of caregiving services, and guiding strategies for disabled elderly individuals, their families, caregivers, and researchers.Healthcare professionals must recognise that disability impacts not only the individual but also the entire family system. The process of disability is slowed by early intervention, and psychological counselling services are provided to relieve stress and anxiety. Volt hockey is a team sport developed for persons with physical disabilities. Because family members are important resources to enable sports participation, the purpose of this study was to illuminate experiences of volt hockey from family members' perspectives. Focus group interviews were conducted, including 20 family members, and the verbatim transcripts were inductively analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. Family members saw the value of enabling participation in volt hockey, being an inclusive team sport that brings enjoyment and strengthens social relationships within, and outside of, the family. Trying to facilitate sport participation, the need for material resources and other actors was emphasised, such as personal assistance, funders, and healthcare professionals informing about the sport and the engagement of the volt hockey clubs. In conclusion, involvement in volt hockey is emotionally and socially rewarding for family members, but there is a need for additional enablers to allow the sport to grow. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Substance dependence is a biopsychosocial, multidimensional and multifactorial phenomenon. The family is a dynamic and multifaceted system of ideas, emotions and behaviors. The elements of the family system influence and feed off each other, and changes within the family have an impact both individually and collectively as the family goes through its life cycle. The results of most research studies pointed out that: 1) the phenomenon of substance dependence is not associated with a specific type of family i.e. with a stable pathognomonic profile 2) drug-dependent personalities can arise in different types of family structure 3) certain characteristics of family structure, in general, seem to be common to the functioning of families of addicted persons 4) in the family of substance-dependent persons the characteristics that are found in many other families 5) there is a high incidence of mental disorders in the family of substance abusers and 6) therapeutic intervention in the family is imperative, but must be accompanied by other interventions. Substance dependence seriously affects public health and needs to be addressed in a variety of ways. It has become clear that intervention in the family becomes necessary in order to change the behavior of the user, to change the attitudes of other family members and to modify the overall family dynamics. Purpose: To explore the resources, parents with cancer and their partners draw upon to sustain their family resilience through the cancer experience. Methods: Fifteen participants who were parents of children aged 8 to 25 years completed phone, audio-recorded, and semi-structured interviews. Of these participants, 11 were parents diagnosed with cancer, and four were partners of a parent diagnosed with cancer. Interview questions aimed to increase understanding about how families communicate, connect, and face challenges from the cancer experience. Interview data was analysed using inductive thematic analysis to provide scope to generate themes from parent’s experiences rather than to test pre-existing frameworks. Results: The thematic analysis of interview transcripts generated three key themes related to family resilience: (1) adaptability to changes in roles and routines, (2) open communication within the family, and (3) accepting support from others. Conclusion: This study found that parents’ ability to use personal resources when faced with significant challenges helped to improve the resilience of parents’ family system. Further research is needed to understand the factors that influence family resilience when a parent is diagnosed with cancer. Implications for the development of targeted interventions that provide support to not only the patient, but their whole family system will be discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Based on cluster system theory and the Markov process, a performance prediction method utilizing time-dependent subsystem transfers between family systems is proposed in this paper. The family system is divided via the mean clustering method, with the key performance parameters of subsystems utilized as identification parameters. According to the transition quantity of subsystems in the family systems, the transition probability of subsystems between family systems is described via the Markov process. The transition matrix between subsystems is established by dividing multiple intervals of key performance states. The inter-family transfer matrix and the current family system label of the subsystem are updated in real time. Thus, the transition probability of any subsystem and the total number of subsystems to be transferred to the failure-state family system can be judged, and the remaining life can be further determined. Using the real-world monitoring dataset from the FAST Telescope, the effectiveness and accuracy of the method are verified. Due to the representativeness of family systems to subsystems and the powerful transfer-describing ability of Markov processes, the proposed method shows superiority in online prediction and performance evaluation compared to the fault data-based method, such as improvements in rapidity and accuracy. In addition, the proposed method can be used to evaluate overall reliability without reference samples, thus making the prediction method more practical in complex, large systems with small or even zero sample conditions. Quality of life in patients and caregivers cannot be conceived without including social needs. The aim of this research is to conduct a systematic review showing empirical evidence of how affective relationships influence the quality of life of patients with rare diseases and their caregivers. A search was conducted in the Web of Science, Scopus and PsycInfo databases. A total of 4923 articles were found, which after the screening process were reduced to 12 studies. The effects of affective relationships were found both in the family nucleus and in its components independently (parents, siblings and patients). It is evident that both the family and the extra-familial environment are essential to improve quality of life. It is recommended that future research should study the interactions between the established relationships to offer a better intervention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: The aim of this study was to analyse the differences in the perception of the functioning of the family system between professional foster parents, their life partners, biological children, and children placed in professional foster families. Methods: The sample consisted of 401 respondents. The functioning of the family system was measured using the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Scale - FACES IV. The Family Communication Scale and the Family Satisfaction Scale were administered to assess communication and satisfaction with the family system. Results: The results of the statistical analyses did not confirm differences in the perception of the functioning of the family system between professional foster parents and their life partners, nor between the biological children of professional foster parents and children placed in professional foster families. Professional foster parents and children placed in professional foster families differed statistically significantly in balanced cohesion. Professional foster parents and their biological children differed statistically significantly in their perception of disengaged cohesion. Partners of professional foster parents and children placed in professional foster families differed in their perception of family adaptability, with children in professional foster families perceiving family functioning as more rigid compared to partners of professional foster parents. The results also indicated that biological children perceived family cohesion as more disengaged than partners of professional foster parents. Conclusion: Understanding the functioning of the family system of professional families is important in effectively applying a systems approach when working with this target group. This study investigates the socio-economic and demographic determinants of household fertility decisions in Nigeria. Using the family system model as a framework, a cross-sectional survey design in a retrospective study was adopted. Quantitative data were purposively obtained from the 2018 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) household recode dataset. Data were analysed using descriptive, bivariate statistics and Logistic Regressions at P<0.05. The mean age at first birth of respondents was 18.8±4.0 years. The mean of children ever born (CEB) was 5.9±2.8. The CEB was highest in the North West region (36.7%), while the South East had the lowest (12.6%) sum of CEB in the six regions. The relationship between CEB and the age at first birth is statistically significant (2= 8334.4, p=<0.001). Women with all children living are 2.0 times (OR=2.071, CI=1.987-2.158) more likely to increase their CEB than women who have experienced the loss of a child. Women who have no formal education are 5.8 times (OR=5.835, CI=5.504-6.186) more likely to increase their CEB than women with tertiary education. Women who used the folkloric method of contraceptives were 5.5 times more likely to increase their CEB than women using modern contraceptives. Based on the findings, it is recommended that fertility controls must be prioritized, specifically by encouraging girl child education across the nation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article refers to problems that have not been explored in the Polish research space so far, namely educational opportunities and career paths for academics from working classes. The basic source of data in this article are narrative biographical interviews with academics employees of Polish universities who, coming from a family with modest intellectual traditions, and scarce social, cultural and economic capital, have managed to achieve success in the scientific world. The main research question is: how is the configuration of various types of capital accumulated in the family related to the development of an academic career in Poland? The authors of the article propose the dissemination of new theoretical concepts: “anti-capital of a family” and “upward cultural capital”.

In a period where excessive consumption is encouraged by global markets, a person who is burdened with debt is exposed to more frequent problems in fulfilling the debt obligation. This problem is deepened by the burden of interest, and the stress caused by this situation directly affects family relations. In the debt relationship established with the bank, every failure in loan repayments leads to violence, incompatibility, divorce, suicide, and mental health problems within the family, and public health deteriorates gradually. This danger is particularly pronounced in middle- and lower-income groups, as these groups, with limited wealth and accumulated capital, are more likely to fall into a debt spiral compared to other higher income groups. This study aims to elaborate on the multidimensional impact of bank loans, which middle- and lower-income family members apply to overcome their financial difficulties, on the family system over time. In this sense, the study compares the roles in the family and the wellbeing of intra-family communication before the first contact with the bank loan with the change in these roles and relationships after the use of the loan. The study compares the findings from the interviews with the hypothesis that although bank loans provide short-term solutions to overcome difficulties, in the medium and long term, the family system is adversely affected by the stress of indebtedness and loan repayment. The sample consists of 24 married, divorced or separated adult individuals. The inclusion criterion was that the participants had applied for a bank loan at least once, especially for consumption, personal or vehicle loans. Investment loans were excluded from the scope of the study. During the data collection process, data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The data obtained by transcribing the audio recordings were analyzed by descriptive analysis method. The study evaluates and conveys the results with 15 different codes and 4 different themes. At the point where the data reached saturation and new data repeated the previous ones, the data collection process was stopped. According to the results obtained from these themes, it is observed that a significant portion of the participants applied for new loans in order to repay their existing debts or to pay off previously taken out loans. Based on the religion factor that emerged in the second theme, the burden of interest and the inability to pay the loan debt on time led to the failure of the planned business and further deterioration of the family's financial situation. This embodies the concept of "lack of abundance" expressed by the participant and leads to a situation of reduced productivity, peace and satisfaction. In the next theme, it was frequently mentioned by participants that debt stress leads to significant changes in family dynamics and relationships. In this context, arguments between spouses, pressure on children and loss of overall family peace can be considered as consequences of financial stress and pressure. Similarly, the fourth theme explains that the stress of debt in loan repayment, combined with social and material conditions, worsens family relationships. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the article is to confront the knowledge about the specificity of the functioning of the family system in the situation of exposure of its members to traumatic phenomena, which are undoubtedly the hostilities in Ukraine. The wave of war refugees, that we have been encountering in our country for two years, requires developing ways of helping to contain traumatic experiences, rebuilding a sense of security and restoring homeostatic mechanisms natural to the family system. Knowledge of the mechanisms that govern, regulate and order the family system can be helpful in developing a methodical approach. What can potentially hinder this type of work is, on the one hand, the accumulation of a large number of traumatic stimuli (m.in. war, refugeeism, cultural and linguistic differences, different levels of social and personal capital), and on the other hand, the fact that methods of working with post-traumatic disorders are used to work with this type of families, in a situation where trauma is an ongoing experience. Chronic pediatric disease has a major impact on the life of a child and his or her family. In this sense, the figure of the main caregiver is relevant, who may present adjustment difficulties before the disease, accompanied by high levels of stress and emotional discomfort, which interfere with the adolescent's adjustment before the new situation. The aim of this research was to carry out a comparative study among caregivers of adolescents with various diseases, analyzing the risk and protective factors for the stress presented by this population. For this purpose, a sample of 406 main caregivers of adolescents with an endocrinological or pneumological disease from different hospitals in Valencia was used, where characteristics related to the disease, attachment, type of family, and emotional distress of these caregivers were considered. In general, the results show higher levels of stress in caregivers of adolescents with an endocrinological disease, specifically DM1, and found significant predictors of anxiety-depressive symptomatology, the need for approval, and several variables related to the disease. These data reveal the importance of providing comprehensive care to the family system, offering health skills to overcome diseases, and reinforcing the protective factors offered by the family system. Faced with multiple pressures from family, study, employment and interpersonal relationship management, college students are more likely to suffer from mental health problems. At present, psychological intervention in China mainly focuses on drugs and interviews, ignoring the important role played by the family as a bio-psycho-social unit, and there are certain cultural compatibility differences. As an important activity in family life, family rituals have been widely used in the treatment of diseases or mental health in western countries. In contrast, in China, the public's attention and application of family rituals are obviously insufficient, and the relevant academic research results are relatively rare. In view of this, this paper adopts mathematical statistics method to clarify the internal relationship between family rituals and subjective well-being of college students, and verify the mediating role of family system in it, so as to provide effective suggestions for psychological health intervention of college students. The results showed that: Family rituals, family system and subjective well-being are correlated in pairs, showing a significant positive correlation; Family rituals and family system have significant predictive effects on subjective well-being of college students; The cohesion and adaptability play part of mediating roles between college students' family rituals and subjective well-being. Children's media use increased during the COVID‐19 lockdowns. Here, we present a thematic analysis of online survey responses from 69 parents (of children aged 0–11 years) who described their family media use after the first UK lockdown. Data highlight an increased reliance on media use driven by the challenges of managing time, work, leisure and social connection. Parents reported the additional work of regulating family media use amidst concerns about harmful effects. We draw on an ecological systems approach to discuss how the role of media in family functioning is determined by societal institutions and discourses around parenting and screens. The family system has always been effective in maintaining basic social order at the grassroots level in traditional Chinese society. At the beginning of the 20th century, Chinese society underwent tremendous changes, and traditional Chinese law was modernized; the family system became the most contested point of conflict between tradition and modernity, forcing lawmakers to be particularly cautious in making legal modernization. During the modern period, the political power struggles of various warlords led to chaos and disorder across the entire social legal system, yet legislative construction never ceased, and the legal modernization of traditional family systems became the focus of legislative endeavors for maintaining basic social order. The European marriage pattern (EMP) is suspected to have played a key role in Western early economic development. Recently, the EMP has been reappraised with regard to economic fluctuations. However, suspected positive mechanisms are backed by little evidence. For a southern French town, we reconstitute most families and build accurate measurements of economic conditions. Combined with marriage contracts (systematic in this written-law area), we control for wealth, Stem household settlement and social status of father and husband for a representative sample of marriages. Studying individual behaviors rather than aggregated values, we clarify the operation of the EMP system: bad economic conditions resulted in later female age at marriage, which had two positive consequences: fewer children, thus adjusting the population level; a smaller age difference between spouses, suggesting greater agency for women within the couple, whereas the existing literature only stressed stable high status for women within the society characterized by the EMP. Many parents have days where they encounter emotional exhaustion, emotional distance from their children, and feeling fed up with being a parent. Some parents experience these characteristics to a severe extent—a clinical phenomenon termed parental burnout. Parental burnout arises when parents chronically endure severe stress without sufficient resources to cope, which may lead to detrimental consequences not only for the parent but also for their partner (e.g., marital conflict) and children (i.e., neglect and violence). However, uncertainty remains regarding how these features interact and trigger one another over time (potentially becoming increasingly severe), nor how the daily variations of the family context influence these features. Therefore, in this study, we recruited 50 parents (with main analyses focusing on 43 mothers with a co-parent, and sensitivity analyses with the full sample) from the general population to rate the core features of parental burnout and the family context daily over 56 days. We used multilevel vector autoregressive models to generate network models. Results suggest that exhaustion contributes to parental burnout: It self-predicts and is closely associated with feeling fed up and finding children difficult to manage. Distance, by contrast, is mainly negatively connected to sharing positive moments with children. Contextual variables also interact with parental burnout features, illustrating the relevance of examining parenting within the family system context. If future research confirms a central role of exhaustion in parental burnout development, prevention efforts can focus on decreasing parental exhaustion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the life cycle, from birth, humans are very dependent on the family environment because, at this time, the quality of life of a child is directly shaped and influenced by the care, support, stimulation, and education received from family members. Based on the data obtained, many cases of children occur in Indonesia and cause them to be held accountable before the law [Novrianza I et al., 2022]. The cases he also experienced varied, ranging from mild to moderate to severe cases. Based on this, the family social environment is considered to be a factor causing criminal acts committed by children [Keliat et al., 2019]. Therefore, the author tries to examine the description of the family social environment in students of child protection crimes with a research locus at the Maros Class II Special Child Development Institute. The research method used is a qualitative approach that focuses on what is in the field objectively without any manipulation. The results of this study show that a picture of the family environment (family social environment) in students of child protection crimes at the Maros class II special child development institution. There were 6 respondents with family type Achievement Orientation, 10 respondents with family type Moral Religious Orientation, 2 respondents with Intellectual Cultural Oriented Families family type, and 2 respondents with Conflict Oriented Families family type [Matos-Melo et al., 2018]. These results show that the social environment of the child's family with criminal protection leads to Moral Religious Orientation which is contrary to personality theory, where Moral Religious Orientation certainly describes an individual with positive attitudes and behaviors, but nevertheless, some influences that make a child able to carry out these negative behaviors include internalization of a child that is not appropriate, especially in terms of moral absorption [Remmers T et al., 2014]. Norms and rules that apply in the family social environment, several factors that become challenges and obstacles in the formation of a family environment, namely adolescence which makes absorption of moral values, ethics and norms that must be considered, parental education that makes the basis of the mindset in the formation of children's character, family financial conditions in meeting children's needs, the large number of members in the family presents a challenge in dividing needs Whether it's financial or affectionate [Hu et al., 2022]. The importance of the role of parents in supervising the environment around children and being an example for and being an example for child and the role of correctional officers in LPKA must prioritize the relationship between parents and children in the implementation of coaching. This paper examines the role of pets in preserving the emotional and spiritual wellbeing of Ukrainian Residents during Russian Hostilities. On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which resulted in a huge number of refugees, both in the country and outside the country. This, in turn, has caused pet owners to rethink their priorities in many ways. This paper is focused on the influence of these animals and relationships with them on maintaining the emotional state and the decision-making process of the Ukrainian residents during the war. In addition, the functions that pets perform in families were considered: educational, reproductive, leisure, etcetera. In Ukraine, pets are considered family members, so many families refused to leave their homeland because they could not leave their cats and dogs alone. This study on family systems and social participation in rural adult women had the objective of describing social participation in the family systemic framework of adult women in a rural context. The study used a qualitative methodology, based on a phenomenological approach, considering a non-probabilistic, purposive sampling from 5 semi-structured interviews with rural adult women from the communes of Mulchén and Parral. The data analysis was carried out based on a content analysis that reflects the dimensions of the experience and field observation as the most important characteristics of the context. The results obtained are visualized through the categories of family system, rural women's activity and social participation, elements that account for common ties and interests, as well as cultural roles and established and non-established functions. The aim of this study was to examine concordance and discordance in how different family members in families with transgender or nonbinary (TNB) youth described topics related to the TNB youth's gender identity and its effects on the family. TNB youth, ages 7–18 years, and their caregivers (54 family members: 20 TNB youth, 34 caregivers) participated in one-on-one qualitative interviews. Interview transcripts were analyzed to determine concordance/discordance in family members' responses (between TNB youth and each caregiver, between caregivers in two-caregiver families, and among all three family members) to 13 different interview questions. Results indicated the highest concordance was found between family members regarding how the youth's gender identity affected family relationships. The highest discordance was found in family member's descriptions of the TNB youth's gender expression and future expectations for the TNB youth. One of the most important factors influencing the development of each person is the period of prenatal development. According to the results of numerous studies, it has been established that the psycho-emotional state of the future mother during pregnancy has an influence on the course of pregnancy and the process of childbirth, on the peculiarities of the prenatal development of the child and, as a result, on his/her personality in adulthood. During the research, Taylor’s Manifest Anxiety Scale was used in order to assess the anxiety levels for pregnant women. Moreover, the Family Adaptation and Cohesion Scale was applied to estimate the level of family cohesion and the level of family adaptation. The study of the psychological state of women during pregnancy suggests that the pregnancy has its own dynamics of aggravation and weakening of a woman’s existing problems and various psycho-emotional aspects of perception of the pregnancy and corresponding behavior. A particularly characteristic aspect is the aggravation of the existing personal, psycho-emotional and social problems in families, which are characterized by a disharmonious relationship with friends and ambiguous attitude to pregnancy and the future child. Chronic pediatric disease has a major impact on the life of a child and his or her family. In this sense, the figure of the main caregiver is relevant, who may present adjustment difficulties before the disease, accompanied by high levels of stress and emotional discomfort, which interfere with the adolescent’s adjustment before the new situation. The aim of this research was to carry out a comparative study among caregivers of adolescents with various diseases, analyzing the risk and protective factors for the stress presented by this population. For this purpose, a sample of 406 main caregivers of adolescents with an endocrinological or pneumological disease from different hospitals in Valencia was used, where characteristics related to the disease, attachment, type of family, and emotional distress of these caregivers were considered. In general, the results show higher levels of stress in caregivers of adolescents with an endocrinological disease, specifically DM1, and found significant predictors of anxiety-depressive symptomatology, the need for approval, and several variables related to the disease. These data reveal the importance of providing comprehensive care to the family system, offering health skills to overcome diseases, and reinforcing the protective factors offered by the family system.

The family can be viewed as an integrated system consisting of interdependent subsystems, among which marital and parent–child subsystems are critical for family functioning. Given the dominance of parents in the family, it is important to investigate the associations between parents' characteristics and these two subsystems. In addition, researchers have found a unidirectional effect of parents' self-concept clarity on their children's self-concept clarity. Exploring whether and how parents' self-concept clarity is related to family relationships may provide insight into this intergenerational transmission since the family plays an important role in the development of children's self-concept. Taken together, the main aim of this study was to examine the links across parents' self-concept clarity and marital and parent–child relationships. A total of 363 Chinese parental dyads of primary and secondary students completed the self-concept clarity, relationship assessment, and child–parent relationship scales, and the data were analyzed by adopting the actor–partner interdependence model (APIM) and the actor–partner interdependence mediation model (APIMeM). The APIM results indicated significant positive associations between parents' self-concept clarity and parent–child relationship quality perceived by the parents (actor effects) and their partners (partner effects). The APIMeM results showed that fathers' marital satisfaction partially mediated the actor effects from parents' self-concept clarity to parent–child relationship quality. Moreover, after controlling for covariates (e.g., family income), parents' self-concept clarity had significant indirect partner effects on parent–child relationship quality mediated completely via fathers' marital satisfaction. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of family system processes and the intergenerational transmission of self-concept clarity and have implications for family interventions. In Hong Kong, which transitioned from a colonial to post-colonial One Country-Two Systems structure, sustainability implementation rests on two institutional pillars: education, which drives the city's knowledge-based economy, and family system. In light of the recent policy demands to strengthen higher education and family systems by capitalizing on the unique advantages of the post-colonial era, the purpose of this study was to: (1) describe and analyze sustainability values of the first-year university students; and (2) investigate roles of family and educational systems in the process of their formation. The mix-method study stressed the importance of discerning and analyzing sustainability value formation in order to create in-depth understanding of the curricular adjustments that align the sustainability mindset of Hong Kong students in the context of the One Country-Two Systems under the pressing demands of global economy. The study relied on the use of two systems theoretical frameworks employed within sustainability education (Sterling, 2003) and family (Bowen, 1957/1974) fields. Data sources included questionnaires of 4985 Hong Kong first-year university students; and 31 semi-structured interviews of Liberal Studies teachers. The quantitative findings showed that 85% of the students believed that their family influenced their environmental values; reported a significant negative coefficient (−0.044) between the two student cohorts in relation to family influence; and showed that family influence on students' sustainability values differed by gender. The qualitative results revealed the overarching themes of Family Income, Role Modeling, and Shared Responsibility as three major descriptors of family influences on sustainability values of Hong Kong students. Dysfunctional family cohesion can promote adjustment problems in adolescents and might also affect adolescents' self-concept and strategies for coping with emotional distress. To test these relationships and the underlying mechanisms, we proposed a dual mediation model describing the associations between family cohesion and internalizing and externalizing problems, mediated by shame-proneness and expressive suppression. Methods: A sample of 526 German-speaking adolescents aged 14 to 18 years from Austria, Germany, and Switzerland participated in an online self-report survey encompassing questionnaires on family cohesion, shame-proneness, expressive suppression, and psychological problems. We tested a path model to examine the indirect pathways of the associations between family cohesion and internalizing and externalizing problems via shame-proneness and expressive suppression, while controlling for age, gender, and guilt-proneness. Results: We found a significant dual mediation of the associations between family cohesion and internalizing and externalizing problems by shame-proneness and expressive suppression. The indirect pathways were all significant, except for the indirect pathway from family cohesion to externalizing problems via shame-proneness. Discussion: Our results provide a model for the mechanisms by which disrupted family cohesion can be related to psychological problems in adolescents. Purpose:To understand child and family needs following TBI in early childhood, 22 caregivers of children who were hospitalized for a moderate to severe TBI between the ages of 0 and 4 within the past 10 years (M = 3.27 years; Range = 3 months to 8 years) participated in a needs assessment. Methods: Through a convergent study design, including focus groups (FG), key informant interviews (KII), and standardized questionnaires, caregivers discussed challenges and changes in their child's behaviors and functioning in addition to resources that would be helpful post-injury. Standardized questionnaires assessing current psychological distress and parenting stress in addition to open-ended questions about their general experience were completed. Results: Results indicated some families continue to experience unresolved concerns relating to the child's injury, caregiver wellbeing, and the family system after early TBI, including notable variation in caregiver reported psychological distress and parenting stress. Caregivers noted unmet needs post-injury, such as child behavior management and caregiver stress and coping. Conclusion: Early TBI can have a long-term impact on the child, caregivers, and family system. Addressing the needs of the whole family system in intervention and rehabilitation efforts may optimize outcomes following early TBI. Study results will inform intervention development to facilitate post-injury coping and positive parenting. Early TBI can result in unmet needs that have a lingering impact on the child, caregiver, and family. Caregivers need information and resources that address their own distress and stressors related to changes in the child post-injury. The article presents a model of psychological support for families with problem children, describes a system of events that has a clearly structured and organized nature and is built on psychological principles. The latter is provided with the help of special forms and methods of the program of psychological support, which include: 1) at the level of the psychodiagnostic stage, standardized and projective techniques; 2) at the level of the psychoeducational stage - psycho-preventive techniques and educational activities in accordance with empirical data regarding gaps in psychological knowledge and the needs of the subjects themselves; 3) at the level of the psycho-counseling stage - conversation and interpretation as specific forms of providing psychological assistance focused on personality and interaction among family members, their assimilation of effective ways to independently solve problems; 4) at the level of the psychotherapeutic stage - interpretation and discussion of the results obtained in the process of empirical research, conducting psychotechniques "Family Chest", "Writing a Fairy Tale", "Family Diagram" with subsequent feedback.

The article presents a diagnostic complex of psychological support for families with problem children, the main purpose of which is to study and understand the essence of the family problem, its carriers and the potential for solving the dysfunctions. The diagnostic stage captures the signals of the problem situation with the subsequent construction of the appropriate logic for the further diagnostic study. Trusting contact is established with all participants in the problem situation, assistance is provided in verbalizing the problem, joint assessment of the possibility of its resolution. The final part of this stage is a clear definition of the problem. Comprehensive psychodiagnostics consists of the initial diagnosis to study the strengths and weaknesses of family members, identify and solve problems that arise during family interaction, conducting the diagnostic minimums in order to analyze the dynamics of functioning and overcome possible difficulties. Further work provides in-depth psychological diagnosis of members of the nuclear family system.

This study explored whether shared self-control across a family system, including adolescent, mother, and father self-control, as well as the interaction of mother and father self-control, was associated with ease of completing adherence tasks and the completion of adherence behaviors related to the Type 1 diabetes (T1D) regimen. One hundred thirty-seven adolescents (M = 13.48 years), mothers, and fathers completed a self-report measure of self-control, while adolescents also self-reported on ease of completing adherence tasks and the frequency with which they completed adherence tasks. Higher adolescent, mother, father, and the interaction of mother and father self-control were each associated with greater adolescent perceptions of ease of completing adherence tasks. Also, greater adolescent perception of ease of adherence mediated the association of higher adolescent, father, and the interaction of mother and father self-control on more frequent adherence behaviors. The results are consistent with the idea that family members may share the load of self-control within the family system. The results point to the importance of assessing and intervening within the entire family system to support improved quality of life and better adherence to the medical regimen in adolescents with Type 1 diabetes. Aim: This study aimed to enhance knowledge on which aspects of the family context are most relevant in identifying at-risk/problematic social media users among adolescents. Therefore, we examined the relative contribution to adolescents' at-risk/problematic social media use (SMU) of general and Internet-specific family factors related to three different family (sub)systems: parent-child (Internet-specific rule-setting, reactive restrictions towards Internet use, co-use, adolescents' involvement in rule-setting and positive parenting), parent (parental screen time, phubbing, stress, anxiety and depression) and family (family functioning, family intactness and SES) (sub)system. Methods: Questionnaire data came from 403 adolescents (M = 13.51, SD = 2.15) and 396 parents (M = 46.59, SD = 5.29) who participated in wave 1 of the Dutch ‘Digital Family project’. Results: Logistic regression analyses showed that only factors related to the parent-child subsystem remained significant in predicting being an at-risk/problematic social media user when examining predictors related to the parent-child, parent and family (sub)system simultaneously. Specifically, general and Internet-specific parenting practices contributed to the prediction above and beyond each other. Positive parenting and Internet-specific rule-setting seem protective, while parental reactive restrictions towards Internet use could be a risk factor. Positive parenting showed the largest effect size. Conclusion: The results suggest that parental behaviors directed towards the child should be a focus of attention in prevention of adolescents' problematic SMU. In addition, our findings highlight the importance of untangling restrictive mediation (impulsive, in the moment, attempts to limit SMU versus communicating clear rules in advance) when examining its effects.

Over the last decade, there have been repeated calls to expand the operationalisation of food parenting practices. The conceptualisation and measurement of these practices has been based primarily on research with parent-child dyads. One unexplored dimension of food parenting pertains to the evaluation of practices specific to feeding siblings. This study describes the development and validation of the Feeding Siblings Questionnaire (FSQ) – a tool designed to measure practices in which siblings are positioned as mediators in parents' attempts to prompt or persuade a child to eat. Item development was guided by a conceptual model derived from mixed-methods research and refined through expert reviews and cognitive interviews. These interviews were conducted in two phases, where parents responded to the questionnaire primarily to test i) the readability and relevance of each item, and ii) its overall feasibility. The instrument was completed by 330 parents (96.1% mothers) in Australia with two children aged 2–5 years, and repeated by 133 parents (40.3%) two weeks later. Exploratory factor analysis was performed on baseline data. Internal consistency and test re-test reliability of the subsequent subscales were examined. Construct validity was assessed through comparisons with existing measures of food parenting practices and child eating behaviours. The final FSQ scale included 22 items, reflecting five food parenting practices: sibling competitiveness, active sibling influence, threatening unequal division of food, sibling role modelling, and vicarious operant conditioning. Internal consistency and test re-test reliability estimates were high, and there was some evidence of convergent construct validity. While its factor structure should be confirmed in a different sample, the FSQ offers a novel tool for assessing, monitoring, and evaluating feeding interactions beyond those confined to the parent-child dyad. In this study, we explored older rural South African adults' perceptions of organ donation. Twelve older Pedi adults (male = 50%; age range 51 to 78 years) completed in-depth interviews on their knowledge of organ donation, cultural views, and influences on their orientation to the medical practice. Four themes emerged from the data synthesis: (i) organ donation regarded as body part harvesting; (ii) organ donation as a taboo practice; (iii) organ donation interfering with closure and spirituality; and (iv) the centrality of family in the decision making on health and life matters. The cultural lens rooted in family and spiritual futures is central to older black Pedi adults' understanding of organ donation. Organ donation education and awareness campaigns should engage community leaders in bridging the cultural divide that may discourage people from participating in this beneficial practice. The purpose of the current study was to identify and understand the experiences, needs, and effects of intrafamilial homicide (IFH) on surviving families. A homicide is considered intrafamilial when the perpetrator and decedent were both members of the same chosen or biological family. Qualitative interviews were conducted with 14 adult surviving family members of an IFH (M age = 46.14 years, SD = 12.78 years; n = 9 females, n = 5 males; n = 8 Black, n = 6 White; n = 11 non-Hispanic, n = 3 Hispanic). The results of thematic analyses indicated that families encountered a significant and negative impact to the family system as a result of the IFH. Specifically, participants discussed experiencing familial relationship strains, including relational cut-offs, child-custody and visitation issues, and divorce. Participants also provided their definition of immediate family and discussed the implications of the definition for post-IFH service provision. Most participants provided the first names or relationship titles of those individuals that they included within their immediate family, as well as a qualitative description of those relationships. Some participants also discussed the awareness that the co-victims that are impacted by the IFH are not always included within the traditional definition of immediate family and how that preconception can negatively impact post-IFH service provision. This research addresses much needed gaps in the extant literature, helps to inform future couple and family therapy practices, and provides direction for future research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The current study aims to highlight the impacts of COVID-19 outbreak on family life such as: family resilience, patient to face the harsh circumstances, close family bonds, cooperation and share in housework with family members. One of the major positive impacts of COVID-19 is an increase of interaction between family members by spending more times with each other. Moreover, families got more opportunity to spend time with their children, educate them at home, and arrange more indoor activities for them that help them to improve their skills. The paper concludes that besides the negative impacts, COVID 19 has many positive and beneficial changes in family life such as, getting more opportunity to spend time with family members and children, work-family balance, the ability to work from home and peace of life in general.
