- Abstract
A key rule of the classic detective genre is the doctrine of fair play, according to which readers should have access to the same information as the detective in order to have the opportunity to solve the mystery as the detective does, or to even beat them to it. Through presenting the reader with a mystery, suspects, and clues, the narrative invites the reader to participate with the in-text detectives to solve the crime depicted. It is this ludic nature that makes the whodunit genre particularly appealing to child-readers. Additionally, through playful approaches to form, 'children's texts tend to stress interactivity in ways that other texts do not': children's texts are frequently as 'physical and kinetic' as they are 'cognitive and emotional'. Children's detective fiction not only makes visible the genre's inherent interactivity, which challenges the reader to engage in detective behaviour, but may intensify the genre's immersive potential through children's literature's own unique affordances. When these detective stories are translated to a different medium, the narrative elements of stories which invite interactivity must also be changed in order to maintain fair play, which is fundamental to the functioning of detective stories. Therefore, this article focuses on the ways through which different media adapt the inherent interactive and ludic nature of children's detective fiction through an analysis of the audio dramas and board game adaptations of the popular TKKG series, both underserved by adaptation studies and children's and media studies. Anti-doping has among its purposes to test athletes and promote educational actions. In Brazil, the Brazilian Doping Control Authority (ABCD) has been responsible for such actions since 2014. The objective was to analyze ABCD's anti-doping education actions based on the civilizing process theory. A multisituated ethnography was used to follow anti-doping, a process that took place over 19 months. The results were divided into three empirical-analytical categories: 1) interinstitutionality, which shows ABCD actions to create interdependence ties with sports institutions and the field of Physical Education; 2) pedagogy for children and youth, which indicates that education actions were mainly aimed at the underage athletes; and 3) the use of athletes and former athletes as examples, in which the search for individual accountability and a displacement of the individual from the configuration is analyzed. Anti-doping education is an element of the civilizing process that seeks to incorporate mechanisms of self-control. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LEGAL liability ,CITIZENS ,RESPONSIBILITY ,SKEPTICISM ,PUBLIC debts ,DUTY - Abstract
Avia Pasternak's book makes a significant contribution to our understanding of citizen responsibility for historical wrongs. This review nevertheless offers some scepticism about resting citizen liability exclusively on the idea of intentional participation. It argues that the necessity of the state possessing continuing legal responsibility over time is so intrinsic to the function of statehood that the question of citizen liability should be seen as part of the general theory of political obligation. So seen, fair play duties provide a more plausible general ground for citizen liability, even when adapted to unjust regimes. The model of intentional participation may by contrast harbour a muted connection between the ideas of blameworthiness and responsibility that the book in the main wishes to deny. And the practical problems of resting responsibility on intentional participation alone are substantial. Pasternak's major contribution, untouched by this critique, is to explain how the special obligations undertaken by intentional citizenship strengthen and extend beyond that more foundational duty of responsible citizens. - Abstract
Although air pollution is an important practical and theoretical issue, the impact of air pollution on game outcomes has not yet been comprehensively investigated. Therefore, by using data from the Chinese Football Association Super League, this study examined the impact of the Air Quality Index and six major air pollutants on game outcomes. Results show that air pollution is negatively and significantly related to game outcomes and is heterogeneous between home teams and away teams. The results extend the knowledge of air pollution studies and sports studies and provide insights into both environmental regulations and sports markets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SOCIAL norms ,SOCIAL accounting ,APPELLATE procedure ,PHENOMENOLOGY - Abstract
This paper examines Laura Valentini's attempt to explain political obligations through her account of social norms, her 'Agency-Respect View' (ARV). A great strength of ARV is preserving the 'content-independence' of political obligations. However, ARV does not mesh well with the moral phenomenology of political obligations. ARV is able to generate moral requirements that are strikingly weak. Accounting for the far stronger moral force of requirements to obey the law requires appealing to law-independent considerations. Valentini's account of these factors suggests greater explanatory force of an alternative view she dismisses, to which she refers as the 'deflationary view.' In addition, among alternative theories that Valentini rejects is one based on the principle of fair play. I respond to Valentini's criticisms, thereby demonstrating the continuing applicability of fair play. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CROSS-cultural differences ,SOCIAL background ,MULTICULTURALISM ,SPORTSMANSHIP ,PHYSICAL activity - Abstract
The educational aspects of sports were recognized during the development of sports along with its educational values, character formation, including the adherence to the fair play principle, primarily in English schools. Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympic Games, based his philosophy of Olympism on them, aiming for the development of athletes from diff erent nations. Łódź, a multicultural place a small center of games at the turn of the th and th centuries, was such a place. Sport and various forms of physical activity were the foundation for bringing together people from diff erent social, cultural, and religious backgrounds in this rapidly growing industrial city. The Western European genealogy of fair play contains elements of medieval chivalric ethos, ethical virtues of Renaissance courtiers, and the moral ideals of a th-century English gentleman. The supplement to the fair play idea also includes the ethical sports contexts present in the histories of local sports communities. The overview of selected documents presented in this article testifies to the significant role of sport, along with the fair play principle, in the creation of a common, multicultural, industrial city. It also encourages a brief presentation of pioneering actions aimed at popularizing sports with the fair play principle during the development of Łódź. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study was designed to determine how athletes evaluate the concept of respect. Within the scope of the study, the effects of the concept of respect on the result of the competition, showing respect in case of victory and defeat, athletes' approaches to referee decisions within the framework of respect, and what are the expectations from modest and honest athletes are examined. Qualitative study method was adopted in the study and phenomenology qualitative research design was preferred. The study group consisted of 17 athletes selected by the convenience sampling method, one of the purposeful sampling methods. The interview method was used as a data collection tool and 6 questions prepared in line with the semi-structured interview were directed to the participants. The athletes were informed that the interviews would be recorded and that the researcher would later convert the recordings into text and analyse them. The interviews lasted an average of 30 minutes. Descriptive and content analysis were applied to the texts obtained. As a result of the analysis, some athletes see the concept of respect as a moral obligation, while others see it as an obligation in line with the fair play and moral expectations of the environment. It is thought that the concept of respect has both positive and negative reflections on the competition. Athletes state that whether the reaction to referee decisions is respectful or disrespectful varies according to the importance of the competition, that is, according to the relevant conditions. The expectations from the modest athlete, the superiority of the opponent and the behaviours expected from the opponent differ according to the defeat and victory situations. In addition, athletes who have values and are approved by their environment are characterized as honest athletes.

In order to improve people's behavior in line with the spirit of fair play, both in the world of athletics and in the social sphere, it is vital to challenge the phenomenon of fair play at all educational levels. All social actors agree that it is possible to establish communities in which fair play behaviors are common, but only with the education that must be provided from a young age. This study aims to investigate high school students' perceptions of fair play, both among those who participate in and among those who do not participate in school sports. A total of 145 female students make up the study's sample, including 104 female students studying in the Mardin province who have previously participated in volleyball at their schools and 41 female students who have not. Aside from the demographic information form created by the researchers, the "Multidimensional Sportsmanship Orientation Scale" was used as a data collection tool in the study. The package program SPSS 21.0 was used to analyze the information that had been gathered. The information collected from the participants was interpreted using frequency, percentage distributions, and nonparametric tests. Significant differences were found in the variables of age (in favor of older age), school type (in favor of imam hatip high school), and mother's employment status (in favor of non-working). Variables such as involvement in school sports, family income, mother's education level, and father's occupation were not found to differ significantly. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Considering that life-long health behaviors are mostly acquired during adolescence, the participation of individuals in early adolescence in games and sports activities at schools should be increased. It is socially important to raise awareness about developing behaviors that are in line with the spirit of fair play and instilling these behaviors in children at the earliest possible age, in addition to ensuring active participation. Thus, the aim of this research is to determine the perceptions of sedentary children in early adolescence towards the concept of fair play through metaphors and drawings. This study was carried out within the scope of phenomenology, one of the qualitative research designs, in order to determine the perceptions about the concept of fair play. A total of 71 students in the early adolescence period between the ages of 11-14, studying at secondary education levels in the city center of Ankara, participated in the study on a voluntary basis in the fall semester of the 2022-2023 academic year, In order to obtain the data, a personal information form was applied to children in early adolescence and the children were asked "Fair play is like ......; because ......" and draw a picture reflecting their thoughts on the concept of Fair play. The data collection tool was applied by the researchers themselves. Through content analysis, similar expressions were brought together under appropriate categories and presented, and the drawings made were examined. With the evaluation of the data, 67 metaphors were collected in 4 different categories, since the 4 metaphors that the children produced in total 71 metaphors did not contain any meaning. While it was determined that the participants developed metaphors in the "respect element" and "cooperation element" categories related to the concept of fair play, these categories were followed by the "friendship element" and "justice element" categories. This research aims to examine the fair play behaviors of secondary school students who participate in school sports. The sample of the research consists of 495 secondary school students who continue their education in Niğde in the 2022-2023 academic year and are selected by purposive sampling method. “Frequency of Exhibiting Fair Play Behaviors Scale” was used as a data collection tool in the research. Descriptive statistics, t-tests, and ANOVA tests were performed in the analysis of the data, and a significance level of .05 was taken into account in the interpretation of the data. According to the research findings, the students who participated in school sports exhibited fair play behavior at a frequent level in the spectator dimension; at a very frequent level in team, negative behavior, opponent dimension, throughout the scale. Fair play behaviors of female students were higher than male students. According to the grade level, the scores of the 5th-grade students were found to be significantly higher than the 7th-grade students. While the fair play behaviors of the students playing football in the spectator dimension of the scale were higher than the athletes interested in individual branches, no significant difference was found in other dimensions. In the variable of sports age, the fair play behaviors of the students who do sports for 1-3 years were found to be higher than the students who did sports for less than 1 year. As a result of the research, it has been determined that secondary school students participating in school sports exhibit fair play behaviors very often and develop more positive attitudes towards their team. It is recommended that secondary school students participate in events such as games, competitions, and tournaments within the scope of school sports.

The players discuss disputed calls with each other during the game, and then follow rules designed for these situations to determine how the play continues. The number one rule of the sport is to respect the spirit of the game (SOTG), which encourages competitive play while preserving mutual respect and minimizing the risk of injury. The use of SOTG in ultimate in the framework of self-arbitration as a moral practice aligns well with other tools of critical pedagogy. For this study, the SOTG scores of the WFDF Joint Junior Ultimate Championship (JJUC 2022) were analyzed. A total of 1009 players from 19 countries competed in 434 self-refereed games (29 national teams in the WJUC Under-20 (U20) tournament and 20 teams in the EYUC Under-17 (U17) tournament). All the scores from the individual criteria correlated well with the overall scores, but for the most part, they did not correlate with each other. Our experience with the scoring system has highlighted the importance of participants understanding the meaning of the results and how they may lead to a constructive reflection to improve exceptions, including scores representing fouls and rules knowledge. The findings provide important information for physical education teachers, coaches, and sport consultants and may be of use to design SOTG programs that could foster the experience of sportsmanship and to facilitate the ethical conduct of athletes in either recreative or in competitive contexts.

Purpose: This research aimed to examine the possible difference of secondary school students' motivational profiles on their sportsmanship orientation in physical education. Methods: The participants were 707 (53.61% men; M
age = 14.97, SDage = 1.58) secondary school students, who completed measures on their perception of behavioral regulation and sportsmanship orientation in physical education. A two-step cluster analysis was performed to explore the motivational profiles, and multivariate analysis of variance tests was conducted to examine differences on sportsmanship orientation among motivational profiles. Results: The cluster analysis identified four motivational profiles (controlled, amotivated, high motivational regulation, and autonomous). The multivariate analysis of variance tests found that the students in the four motivational profiles reported different levels in respect for social conventions, respect for rules and teachers, full commitment, and respect for classmates. Discussion/Conclusions: The motivational profiles provided a more comprehensive understanding of the motivational processes for each sportsmanship orientation in secondary school students in physical education. The aim of the study is to investigate the attitudes and sport orientations of martial artists in different sectors in relation to gender, age, education level and sport experience. In this sense, the Attitudes Towards Challenge Sports and Multidimensional Sportsmanship Orientation Scale” was used as a data collection tool in the study. The study group consisted of a total of 310 active athletes, 236 male and 74 female athletes who actively participated in competitions. SPSS 28.0 program was used for data analysis. The t-test for independent samples and the ANOVA -test were used to compare the variables. According to the results of the study, no significance was found in the gender variable in the attitude of martial artists towards their branches. However, a statistically significant difference was found in the dimension of “respect for rules and management” according to the gender variable. In the sub-dimension “Respect for the opponent”, significance was found in favor of female athletes. In the “sub-dimension “Ambition” of athletes in different age groups, a significant value was found between age groups. In this context, the present results show that there are significant differences between athletes of different age groups in some subdimensions. While significant differences were found between age groups in the sub-dimensions of “ambition” and “respect for opponent”, there were no significant differences between age groups in other sub-dimensions. These results suggest that age may have an influence on the characteristics of athletes’ sportsmanship orientation. At the same time, although it was found that different levels of education could affect athletes’ attitudes toward martial arts, it was also clear that there were differences among different levels of education on the subdimensions of “sportsmanship orientation.”

The relevance of the research is associated with negative trends in modern sports: a departure from the ethical principles of fair play, the commercialization of sports and its transformation into an instrument of political influence. The article is devoted to the analysis of intuitively similar, but different in content concepts related to sports activities and underlying ethical principles. The purpose of the article is a semantic analysis of the concepts of “competitiveness” and “agonality”. The material for the study was scientific and methodological publications on the topic of the study, available in the public domain. The lexico-semantic method was used in the analysis of the material. The results of the study showed that these concepts differ significantly from each other. Thus, competitiveness defines the essence of sport as, first of all, competitive activity, and ensures the achievement of the maximum possible sports results. Competitiveness can be considered as a principle of organization of competitive activity, providing for equality of starting opportunities of competitors. Agonality is understood as a competition organized according to certain rules, based on one’s own worldview, realizing a competitive desire in a person and having a non-gaming character. It is the latter that makes this concept not applicable to the characteristics of modern sports, one of the characteristics of which is entertainment. Scope of application of the results: understanding the essence of the concepts considered makes it possible to better understand the principles, mechanisms and content of sports activity.

In the course of my work so far, I have repeatedly emphasised and drawn attention to the loss of morality and value in societies, which affects sports in all areas of life. Today we are far from the original values of the sport and the ideals of Baron Coubertin, from fair play as a pure game. Perhaps the best in the sports segment is fraud, fur, and doping scandals. There are some attitude tests in the international literature to measure sportsmanship, cheating, and fair play, which are internationally validated questionnaires and/or scales. My present work is intended to present the first quantitative results of comprehensive, larger-scale research. In my study, the results of the Multidimensional Sportspersonship Orientation Scale (MSOS-25) are presented. The research questions were that significant differences could be detected between men and women on each subscale; How do young people relate to sportspersonship; Do school type and sport participation significantly influence this; What is the relationship between each scale as a function of age? The research was completed by 1208 students. 59% of the respondents studied in higher education and 41% in public education in primary or secondary schools. In terms of gender ratio, 46% were boys, and 54% were girls. Only Kenyan state-funded institutions participated in the sample. Based on the results, it can be said that the adaptation of the questionnaire was successful for MSOS-25; Cronbach's alpha had a value of 0.742. Age is not a differentiator factor for either questionnaire; however, gender and school type already show significant differences. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research aims to examine the fair play behaviors of secondary school students who participate in school sports. The sample of the research consists of 495 secondary school students who continue their education in Niğde in the 2022-2023 academic year and are selected by criterion sampling from purposive sampling methods. "Frequency of Exhibiting Fair Play Behaviors Scale" was used as a data collection tool in the research. Fair play behaviors of female students were higher than male students (p<.03). According to the grade level, the scores of the 5th-grade students were found to be significantly higher than the 7th-grade students (p<.01). While the fair play behaviors of the students playing football in the spectator dimension of the scale were higher than the athletes interested in individual branches (p<.00), no significant difference was found in other dimensions (p>.05). In the variable of sports age, the fair play behaviors of the students who do sports for 1-3 years were found to be higher than the students who did sports for less than 1 year (p<.00). As a result of the research, it has been determined that secondary school students participating in school sports exhibit fair play behaviors very often and develop more positive attitudes towards their team. It is recommended that secondary school students participate in events such as games, competitions, and tournaments within the scope of school sports. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article presents the responses of 4113 sports fans (55% of whom self-identified as female), collected via an online survey from April 2019 to June 2019, about their views on trans women competing in women's sports. In presenting the data we draw on two recurring themes – gender identity and fairness – to explain the contrasting views surrounding the traditional gendered organization of sports. The overall findings are that just over half of our male and female participants are against the inclusion of trans women, with non-binary participants more supportive and those who preferred not to disclose their gender identity less supportive. The article concludes by suggesting that whilst there is evidence of progressive attitudes amongst our participants, there is also strong resistance to trans women competing in women's sports that is primarily related to the perceived retention of an unfair biological advantage by being assigned male at birth. This study analyses how the social construction of integrity takes place within the context of football in the Netherlands. Combining a contextual approach to sports integrity with the analytic lens of sensemaking, this qualitative multi-method case study analyses – in one extreme case in Dutch youth amateur football – why and when the 'incident' was perceived as an 'integrity issue', and how the meaning of (the) integrity (issue) was socially constructed by (interactions between) stakeholders involved in the case. Our findings show why, when, and how moral norms and values are (not) debated and at stake, and that the social construction of sports integrity is intertwined with the institutional context and the role of secondary stakeholders. It provides insights that can help sports organizations to identify risks in their moral sports culture and to develop measures or policies to safeguard integrity in sports. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The contribution proposes a reflection on the potential of sports as a socio-relational practice and mental and physical well-being that enables the formation of citizens with respect to some specific values. It often happens that these aspects of education remain abstract issues, addressed in mainly theoretical terms. Sporting activity allows direct experience of positive values, such as fair play, representing for this reason an opportunity for their internalization. This is also the source of the fundamental role played by the 'pedagogical training' of coaches, sports instructors and all those involved in the world of sports, especially youth. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between the attitudes of secondary school students towards physical education lessons and their fair play attitudes. The research which was designed as a casual comparison study was conducted with 392 (204 female and 188 male) secondary school students in 2021 2022 academic year in Gaziantep province. As data collection tools, "Attitude Inventory Toward Physical Education Lesson" which was adapted in Turkish by Varol, Ünlü, Erbaş, Sünbül (2016), and "Fair Play Attitude In Physical Education Lesson Inventory" which was developed by Koç (2013) were used. According to the findings of the study; while gender, grade, age and doing sports variables didn't predict significantly secondary school students' attitudes towards Physical Education lesson, gender and grade variables predicted significantly Acting in Appropriate Manner and Abstention from Inappropriate Manner subscales of Fair Play Attitude in Physical Education Lesson Inventory. Also, it was found out that there was no statistically significant relationship between students' attitudes towards physical education lesson and fair play attitudes in terms of gender, grade, doing sports and age variables. As a result, it is observed that as the attitudes of the students towards the physical education lesson increased, their sportsmanship behaviours also increased. Based on this result, it is suggested that students' interest in the lesson can be increased by diversifying the activities in physical education classes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

FAIRNESS ,SOCIAL attitudes ,SPORTSMANSHIP ,QUESTIONNAIRES ,PHYSICAL education - Abstract
The aim of this study is to assess the development of fair play soft skills by means of validated tools in the native language for the target group of adolescents. Fair Play in Physical Education Questionnaire (FPQ-PE) was completed by 450 secondary school students from the 9-14 age group, 490 secondary school students aged 9-13 years and 725 students aged 18-21 years. Linguistic validation was provided. Psychometric properties were assessed by exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. The final version of the translation was the result of review process according to consultation with translators, redactor of scientific literature, and results of pilot testing. The general internal consistency was 0.861, indicating the good consistency of the instrument. In terms of test-retest validity of FPQ-PE, scores at first and second-time points have no significant differences. The CFA indicated a good model fit (χ²/df = 2.15, RMSEA = 0.074, SRMR = 0.058, CFI = 0.949). The results showed good test-retest reliability (Spearman's rho = 0.80, p < 0.01). In the age group 9-14 years old males had higher level of antisocial skills, but also a higher index according to "Convention" scale. For another group (18-21 years old) females had better prosocial skills according to results of "Respect towards teammates," "Gamesmanship," and "Cheating" scales. Our data confirm the validity and reliability of FPQ-PE for the young Ukrainian population. Strong correlation between subscales "Gamesmanship" and "Cheating" (r = 0.85), it could be recommended to analyze antisocial behaviour for Ukrainian adolescents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

At the present stage of medical technologies development, high-performance sports have faced serious difficulties. Its rules and fundamental principles not only fail to keep pace with changes in law and society, but also sometimes contradict themselves. High-performance sports is a balance between the basic rights to selfdetermination as a person of a certain gender and the rules of fair play. The reality is that in order to win sports competitions, people go to extreme measures, for example, changing their biological gender. In this situation, determining the persons (men, women) with whom an athlete should compete becomes not such a simple task, there is legal uncertainty, which sometimes does not provide an opportunity to clearly determine what gender a particular athlete is. The unequal struggle or “death of women’s sports” as such, as well as concerns that men who become women gain an unfair advantage in women’s competitions and the increasing number of cases of participation of transgender athletes in international competitions, prompted the authors of the article to analyze the foreign experience of legal regulation of the participation of such persons in high-performance sports. What is more important: the right to self-determination and self-acceptance as a person of the opposite sex or the rules of fair play? If there are special and general rules of legal regulation, a normative act of a private nature is applied, defining the “self-determination of a person” as a dominant in sports matters. But is everything so clear in high-performance sports? Legal conflicts and ambiguous legal situations (legally significant circumstances) are considered within the framework of this article.

This research examines the effect of the Delphi Program on student self-control and self-perception. Some 305 young people (55% girls) with an average age of 11.6 years (± 0.69) enrolled in public schools in central Spain took part in the project. A quasi-experimental single-group design was used with pre-test and post-test measures following a mixed quantitative-qualitative approach. The CACIA questionnaire was used to assess students’ self-perception. A single level of treatment was conducted with groups of students in twenty didactic sessions of indoor football. The quantitative results showed an improvement in personal feedback, deferring reward, criterion self-control and process self-control. The qualitative analysis of student responses yielded four topics: conflict resolution, respect, honesty and pro-social behavior in two areas: sports and physical activity and in personal life.
