Background. Math anxiety is a state of fear and anxiety that an individual experiences when interacting with mathematical problems. Currently, there is a lack of questionnaires to measure mathematical anxiety for Russian-speaking schoolchildren.The aim. The study analyzed the factor structure and psychometric properties of the Abbreviated Math Anxiety Scale (AMAS).Materials and methods. The study involved 1,198 schoolchildren in grades 10–11. The psychometric properties of the AMAS were analyzed.Results. AMAS demonstrated bifactor structure: subscales of Learning Math Anxiety (LMA) and Math Evaluation Anxiety (MEA) and general scale of Math Anxiety. The bifactor model demonstrated the best fit indices. Analysis confirmed reliable internal consistency (Cronbach’s alphas for LMA = 0.82, MEA = 0.75, total AMAS = 0.95). External validity of AMAS has been confirmed. LMA showed lower scores than MEA. The distribution of scores on the general AMAS scale was shifted to low values. Girls showed higher scores on all scales of the questionnaire. The analysis also confirmed measurement invariance for both boys and girls.Conclusion. Based on the analysis, we can conclude that the AMAS is a valid tool for assessing mathematical anxiety in high school students.

The Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) was initially developed to measure problem solving and abstract reasoning. Currently, it is widely used for the neuropsychological evaluation of those cognitive processes related to frontal lobe functioning, more specifically as a measure of reactive cognitive flexibility. Although its use is widespread both in clinic and research settings, controversies remained regarding the nature of the cognitive processes that underlie WCST performance and the relationships between its diverse scores and other related cognitive measures. To date, studies have been conducted in adolescents and adults, where two- and three-factor solutions predominate, although a one-dimensional structure has also been reported. On the other hand, there are few normative studies in the Spanish-speaking population, and, to our knowledge, there are no normative studies that contemplate the two versions of the WCST. The aim of the present study was to examine the factorial and convergent validity of the WCST in its computerized and manual version in children and to establish normative values for each version indicator according to age and sex. The sample consisted of 359 children aged 7 to 12, divided as follows: (1) manual WCST: 138 children aged 7 to 12 from both sexes and (2) computerized WCST: 221 children 7 to 12 from both sexes and. The inclusion criteria were the following: (1) children with no clinical, neurological, or psychiatric history; (2) who attend their school studies regularly; (3) without school repetition. The WCST in its two versions (computerized vs manual), the Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test (K-BIT) to assess children intellectual functioning, and the working memory (WM) subtask of the WISC-IV, the Stroop Color and Word test and the semantic and phonological verbal fluency (VF) test were administered to test the WCST convergent validity. Intellectual functioning (IQ) was within the normal range expected for the age of children who completed both versions of the WCST. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), Pearson's bivariate correlations and multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) were used. For both the computerized and the manual WCST, the parallel analysis yielded a one-dimensional solution, grouping efficient and inefficient responses, with Complete Categories (CC) being the indicator that obtained the most weight. When comparing the structure found for each version, it is observed that Total Correct (TC) weighed only in the computerized version of the WCST. Regarding the WCST convergent validity, the results with the computerized WCST indicated positive and significant relationships (r = .17 to r = .33) between Total Correct and Complete Categories of the WCST and IQ, MT, FV and Inhibition. In turn, Perseverative Responses, Perseverative Errors, and Non-Perseverative Errors, presented negative and low correlations (r = .17 to r = .29) with IQ, MT, and FV. For the manual WCST, only Complete Categories presented significant positive correlations (r = .20 to r = .39) with CI, FV, Inhibition and MT. The other indicators of the manual WCST presented negative correlations (r = .18 to r = .44) with CI, FV and MT. Regarding the factorial validity of the instrument, our results suggest that the structure of the WCST would be unidimensional in children, regardless of the type of version under analysis (i.e., manual vs. computerized). However, the relationship between WCST performance and the tasks that assess other cognitive processes differs depending on the version. Normative data is established for the first time for Argentine children for both versions. The results emphasize the importance of not considering both versions as interchangeable in child populations and interpreting each version according to its respectively norms. This study is the first to assess the internal consistency and factor validity of the Abbreviated Math Anxiety Scale (AMAS) in a sample of Russian adolescents as well as gender differences and gender invariance. The study included 4,218 adolescents in grades 7–9 (M = 14.23, SD = 0.92). Internal consistency, measured with Cronbach’s alpha, was high. Analysis of the factor structure revealed the best correspondence of the second-order factor model, which included two scales (learning math anxiety and math evaluation anxiety) and the general scale of math anxiety. There were greater gender differences in the all three scales. Analysis of gender invariance demonstrated that the mathematics anxiety construct was uniform in boys and girls. These findings confirm the reliable psychometric properties and validity of the AMAS, enabling its use in adolescents.

The assessment of negative symptoms is crucial for development of adequate therapeutic interventions. This is a challenging task due to complex clinical presentation and lack of reliable and valid instruments. This study examined the psychometric characteristics of the Clinical Assessment Interview for Negative Symptoms (CAINS). The sample consisted of 81 persons with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder recruited from two health institutions in the Sarajevo Canton: the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo and the Psychiatric Hospital of the Sarajevo Canton. The 13 CAINS items grouped into four factors (expression, motivation and satisfaction in the recreational domain, motivation and satisfaction with social relationships, motivation and satisfaction with job and education). The four-factor solution accounted for 87.83% of the variance of manifest items. The reliabilities of extracted factors were as follows: for motivation and satisfaction with social relationships α = 0.897, for motivation and satisfaction with job and education α = 0.961, for Motivation and satisfaction in the recreation domain α = 0.981, and for expression α = 0.938. The highest correlation between factors was found between Motivation and satisfaction with recreation and Motivation and satisfaction with social relationships. On the other hand, the lowest correlation was found between motivation and satisfaction with social relations and motivation and satisfaction with job and education. In conclusion, the study showed that the latent structure of CAINS is adequate, clearly interpretable, and consisted of four factors. The National High School Examination (ENEM) has a restricted measurement model characterized by the assumption that the marker items in each domain are exclusively linked to their target domain. Previous studies suggest, through indirect evidence, that this model may not be valid. However, this postulate has not yet been directly assessed. In this study, this assumption was investigated through factor analysis of the items of the ENEM 2011 edition. Two models were tested. The first, called Thurstone's simple structure, represents the measurement model of the ENEM. The second, of crossed loadings, refute this model. The crossed loadings model was the only one that presented a good fit to the data according to all the indices employed. The evidence found is unfavorable for the assumption of simple factor loadings of the measurement model of the ENEM, indicating issues of validity and in the quality of the scores produced. In 2009, the SPARO questionnaire was one of the most used assessment methods in the Czech Republic (Urbánek, 2010), especially between psychologists in human resources, prisons, police, or the army. However, empirical evidence of its reliability and validity is missing. Using a significant sample of police officers and applicants to police, we researched the questionnaire's reliability and factor validity. About half of the scales do not have adequate internal consistency; the majority of them are not unidimensional. Factor validity is questionable, especially in the main components of the questionnaire, which are highly correlated. These correlations were also present in the original standardized samples as our and original correlation matrices do not differ. The factor structure of the two general factors items is not clear and two-dimensional. Our results do not support the use of the questionnaire in practice. This article presents the results of the validation of the Work Passion Scale developed by Vallerand et al. (2003). To determine the construct validity and the psychometric properties of the scale, a convenience multi-occupational sample of 452 Argentinean workers (56% women, average age = 35.56 years [SD = 10.84], average seniority = 8.82 years [SD = 9.10]) was used. Factor analyses revealed a structure composed of 2 correlated latent factors, comprising 14 items as observable indicators (S-Bχ²/gl = 1.85, GFI = 0.90, CFI = 0.94, RMSEA = 0.04), with adequate reliability according to the ordinal alpha coefficient and the composite reliability coefficient (harmonious passion: α = 0.79, CR = 0.80; obsessive passion: α= 0.80, CR = 0.81). Evidence of concurrent validity was obtained from direct correlations, calculated using Spearman's rho, between the scales of passion for work, flow, job involvement, and job satisfaction. According to the R² coefficient, the predictive and incremental validity of passion as an explanation of job satisfaction surpassed the impact of flow and job involvement. The configural and measurement invariance of the scale across gender was demonstrated using the χ² difference test. The Online Student Connectedness Survey (OSCS) was introduced to the academic community in 2012 as an instrument designed to measure feelings of connectedness between students participating in online degree and certification programs. The purpose of this study was to examine data from the instrument for initial evidence of validity and reliability and to establish a nomological network between the OSCS, the Classroom Connectedness Survey (CCS), and the Community of Inquiry Survey (COI), which are similar instruments in the field. Results provided evidence of factor validity and reliability. Additionally, statistically and practically significant correlations were demonstrated between factors contained in the OSCS and established instruments measuring factors related to student connectedness. These results indicate that for the sample used in this study, the OSCS provides data that are valid and reliable for assessing feelings of connection between participants in online courses at institutions of higher learning.

The main aim of this research was to validate a Serbian adaptation of the Brand Personality Scale (BPS: Aaker, 1997) while applying it to tourist destinations. The BPS was developed as a measure of five personality traits of any kind of brand: Sincerity, Excitement, Competence, Sophistication, and Ruggedness. In the first study that was carried out on 192 (76% female) tourists from student population, exploratory factor analysis of the BPS resulted in a four-factor structure: Competence, Excitement, Sophistication, and Sincerity. The factor Ruggedness was not extracted in this study. In the second study that was carried out on 490 (56% females)tourists from general population, the confirmatory factor analysis was applied in order to validate the four–factor solution from the first study. Results indicated that this solution, with certain allocations and reductions of items, reached a satisfactory fit. The factors Excitement and Sincerity mainly matched the same factors from the original Aaker’s model, while the factors Competence and Sophistication had somewhat different structure. The factor Excitement represented destination as vibrant, energetic, and youthful, while the factor Sincerity represented destination as honest, warm, and welcome. The factor Competence represented a successful and technically modern destination. It retained only two items from the original model (technical and leader), but the rest of items captured the same aspect of destination, such as contemporary and glamorous destination in which upper class status were featured. The factor Sophistication also retained only two items from the original model (feminine and good-looking), which were related to physical attractiveness and appearance, but the rest of the items captured skilled and industrious destination. It seems that sophisticated destinations are those that strongly rely on physical appearance to achieve success. It could be concluded that there is a cultural specificity in describing the tourist destinations.

The aim of the present study was to explore the factorial structure of an Italian version of the Mindfulness Process Questionnaire (MPQ) in a sample of workers. The MPQ and the Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS) were administered to 328 adults (194 males and 134 females), aged between 26 and 60 years old (M = 45.30; SD = 8.65). The analyses supported a one-factor structure for the MPQ, and good internal consistency. In regard to the discriminant validity of the MPQ our results suggest substantial differences in the definitions of mindfulness used in the MAAS and the MPQ and seem to suggest how the two instruments assess diverse and independent aspects, each leading back to the mindfulness construct. Further investigations are required in order to investigate other aspects of validity and reliability of the MPQ. The MPQ could reveal itself to be a valid instrument capable both of contributing to the operational definition of the mindfulness construct and of assessing the process of awareness related to the ability of mindfulness in the workplace. Loneliness is a subjective measure of one's state of mind and the negative feelings about one's level of social contact, which usually involves an unwanted discrepancy between existing and desired relationships. It is measured through self-reported questionnaires, among which a widely used one is the de Jong Gierveld Loneliness Scale (DJGLS). Although it has been previously tested and proven to be a reliable tool for measuring loneliness of Spanish older people, some relevant research questions remain unsolved. Therefore, this article aims to present a validity study of the Spanish version of the DJGLS for its use with older people, by establishing its factorial validity; studying the adequateness of a Rasch model underlying participants' responses; offering evidence of its reliability; and testing for convergent and discriminant validity. Data were obtained in a survey conducted with older adults attending Lifelong Learning programs in Valencia (Spain). The sample consisted of 335 people aged 55 years or older. Sociodemographic data were collected, and loneliness was measured with the DJGLS and the UCLA Loneliness Scale. Results have supported a unidimensional substantive structure, but with minor method effects associated with negatively worded items. In terms of multidimensional IRT analysis, the 2 Parameters Logistic Model fitted the data well and offered better information functions than the Rasch model. Objectives. The aim of the study was to verify factor structure and reliability of the Slovak version of questionnaire Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale (FACES IV) in a sample of adolescents. Self-report questionnaire FACES IV is grounded in revised Circumplex theory of family functioning of D. Olson (2010, 2011) and measures two dimensions of family functioning: cohesion and adaptability on balanced level and on unbalanced level - positive (enmeshed, rigid) and negative (disengaged, chaotic). Sample and settings. Reliability was evaluated within the sample of 1185 adolescents, with mean age 18.33. As a part of cross-validation, factor validity was tested in two samples, randomly dividing the whole sample (n1=842; M1 age =18.20; n2=343; M2 age =18.65). Statistical analysis. The factor structure of FACES IV was examined via confirmatory factor analysis (ML). As a part of testing reliability of the scales, Cronbach,s coefficients alpha and test-retest correlation coefficient (within an interval of 4 weeks) were computed. Results. It has been shown that 6-factor structure reported by the author and alternative 5-factor model did not fit data well. Results indicated that the modified 6-factor structure, where 4 correlated residuals in enmeshed, rigid and chaotic scale were added, represents the most plausible/ appropriate factor solution in two Slovak samples of adolescents. Objectives. The aim of the present study was to adapt the English self-report questionnaire Toronto Alexithymia Scale-20 (TAS-20) to Slovak conditions, as well as to evaluate its reliability and to investigate its 3-factor structure reported by the authors. TAS-20 is used to measure the construct of alexithymia and its 3 components identified by the authors (i.e. difficulty identifying feelings, difficulty describing feelings and externally-oriented thinking). Subjects and setting. After having done a backtranslation in cooperation with the author of TAS-20, its reliability and factor validity was evaluated within the sample of 242 university female students. Statistical analysis. The structure of TAS-20 questionnaire was examined via confirmatory factor analysis (maximum likelihood procedure). Cronbach coefficients alpha were calculated to assess internal consistency aspect of reliability of the TAS-20 scale and its subscales. Results. It has been shown that TAS-20 represents a reliable measurement instrument. Although the results of CFA supported the 3-factor structure of the Slovak version of TAS-20 they indicated the appropriateness/ plausibility of its alternative 4-factor solution as well. This research was realized on a sample of 102 male subjects - freestyle wrestlers aged 18 to 28. 12 situation-motor tests (tasks) were applied on the sample. The acquired data were processed following a number of methodological-statistic procedures. In order to determine the factor validity the Hotelling method of the main components was used, while the reliability was determined on the basis of several coefficients: Spearman - Brown coefficients of reliability SB I and SB2, Cronbach-a index of generalization. The results indicate that most of the tests applied show satisfactory degree of measured characteristics. Satisfactory degree of factor validity was determined with the tests: "left-right bridge-rotation ", "same leg defense and attack", coordination without a dummy", "first no partner situation test", second no partner situation test", complex situation test with a partner", "Schulter", "Grind", "left-right aufris er", "bridge pirouette", "both legs defense in 10 seconds", "vault and return to upright position". The purpose of this study was to investigate the factor valid-ity of the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) in asynchronous online learning environments (AOLE). In order to check the factor validity, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted with 193 cases. Using CFA, it was found that the original measurement model fit for motivation and learning strategies scales of the MSLQ was not satisfactory in AOLE. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was conducted to find alternative factors of the MSLQ in AOLE. EFA with motivation and learning strategies scales of the MSLQ revealed five and four latent factors respectively. SCL-90-R, a multidimensional assessment instrument for mental health status, is among the most widely used instruments for the evaluation of therapies and quality management in mental institutions. With 90 items it is rather long and has a high redundancy as can be seen in its highly correlated scales. Thus many short versions have been constructed, among them the SCL-27, which was devised as a screening tool. It has 27 items, retains six of the nine SCL-90 dimensions and has shown a good factor structure. So far it has only been validated in non-psychiatric samples. The aim of this study is to determine validity and other psychometric qualities of the SCL-27, compared to the SCL-90-R within a group of 449 psychiatric patients. The study found a large concordance between the symptom scales of the SCL-27 and the corresponding scales of the SCL-90-R. The SCL-27 further showed good reliability and a sensitivity to change comparable to that of the 90-item version. A confirmatory factor analysis yields an acceptable factor validity which is better than that of the long version. This study concludes that the SCL-27 is suitable as a short assessment instrument for psychological health in psychiatric patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Eating disorders (EDs) affect men at higher rates than previously estimated, with many traditional ED measures likely underestimating the prevalence of eating and exercise-related pathology among males. The development of the Muscularity-Oriented Eating Test (MOET) represents an important advancement in ED assessment, enabling valid and reliable assessment of muscularity-oriented ED pathology among men. The current study sought to provide initial validity of the MOET among gay men. N = 264 gay men, recruited via MTurk, participated in a brief online survey, completing the MOET and other well-validated measures of eating pathology and body image psychopathology. Factor structure, mean, standard deviation, and intercorrelation between measures were assessed. The MOET demonstrated adequate factor structure, similar to that reported in the initial validation sample, and was significantly correlated with other measures of eating and body image psychopathology. The current study suggests initial validity of the MOET for use among gay men. Future research is needed among younger and more diverse samples of SM men, along with evidence of adequate test-retest reliability and absence of differential item functioning among gay men. Eysenck and Grossarth-Maticek's model states that some of their personality types are predisposed to specific illnesses (Types 1 and 5 to cancer, and Type 2 to coronary heart disease), whereas others are preserved (Type 4) or not predisposed (Types 3 and 6). The aim of this study is to provide information as regards the reliability, factor validity and normative data of the Spanish version of Grossarth-Maticek and Eysenck's Short Interpersonal Reactions Inventory (SIRI) in a sample of university students (N=425). The results indicate that 1) internal consistency is adequate (0,88-0,75); 2) factor analysis suggests that this instrument measures four dimensions: Factor 1 compounded by Types 1 and 2 (psychosomatic risk), Factor 2 constituted by Types 3 and 6 (hysteria/psychopathy), Factor 3 configured by Type 5 (rationality) and Factor 4 defined by Type 4 (autonomy); and 3) distribution of personality types is similar to that found in prior studies with samples of young subjects. Since the inception of the Internet, research has suggested that a small group of people have a tendency to abuse the Internet and thereby cause damage to their health, their personal life and/or their professional life. Numerous terms, including Internet Addiction Disorder and pathological Internet use, have been used to describe this behaviour and its consequences. More recently, the term, problematic Internet use, has been favoured to describe people who cannot resist engaging with the Internet. This article describes the development and psychometric properties of the Problematic Internet Use Questionnaire (PIUQ). The development of the PIUQ was a two-stage process involving a pilot study on a smaller sample (N = 279) and a validation study on a much larger sample (N = 1795). The results of the validation study provided good evidence for the reliability and construct validity of the PIUQ. The exploratory factor analysis suggests that the PIUQ may consist of three sub-scales (i.e., Online preoccupation, Adverse effects and Social interactions), each with good internal reliability. Abstract Until now most of the research on social support has concentrated on general support in relationship to the whole group of people around each individual. In contrast, only a few studies have dealt with individual-specific support (i.e. social support from a particular individual relationship). The Quality of Relationship Inventory (QRI) is a recently developed questionnaire to measure individual-specific social support. We developed the Japanese version by means of back translation and ascertained its reliability and validity among the Japanese women who had had two recurrent spontaneous abortions without known organic etiologies. Factor analysis revealed that the Japanese QRI had a two-factor structure, representing supportive and conflictual aspects of a particular relationship (named Factor-S and Factor-C, respectively). Each factor showed satisfactory reliability with Cronbach's alphas of 0.95 and 0.89. When the QRI scores were compared with the scales from the Social Support Questionnaire, a measure of general social support, the Factor-C of the former with respect to the mother correlated negatively with the Social Support Satisfaction of the latter (r = – 0.40; 95% confidence interval (CI) – 0.64 to – 0.09). Childhood experiences with parents also showed expected correlations with the QRI: care received from the parent before age 16 years strongly predicted Factor-S with that parent (r = 0.50, 95% CI 0.21–0.71 in the case of the mother; r = 0.54, 95% CI 0.27–0.73 in the case of the father). Although we still need to examine the Japanese QRI with different populations, it appears to be a promising measure of individual-specific relationship for the Japanese population. The example includes respondents, top junior (N = 15) and senior karate fighters (N = 15), who have been involved in the wider selection of the Macedonian national karate team. The karate fighters have actively exercised for at least 5 years and won at least one of the I- to III-place in karate kumite fightings in their categories at the national level competition. Respondents selected for the survey were grouped into two separate groups (juniors and seniors). The respondents were selected by the selectors of junior and senior national team of Macedonia and they went through 8 anthropometric tests. For all applied anthropometric variables, besides the descriptive statistics, matrices were determined of inter-correlation and factor analysis. The biggest contribution towards the listed factors, have the variables: AKNN .95 (upper arm skin fold - seniors), AKNM .92 (stomach skin fold of the junior guys and juniors and seniors together) ADNSZ .91 (diameter of the ankle joint of seniors), ATNT (body weight of the juniors, and juniors and seniors together), and smallest or none the variable AKNPK .00 (lower leg skin fold of the seniors).
