This paper's main goal is to evaluate the before and after effects of EU’s GSP plus on Pakistani company’s tax payment of textile sector and suggesting the Fiscal policy. In fact, the study address what effect does the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) plus Status of the EU have on the corporate taxation of Pakistan's textile industry and on tax policy? For that purpose, in this study the regression analysis is used. The data of listed local and international companies are gathered from Pakistan Stock Exchange. The results depict that exporting companies able to increase their profits and pay more corporate tax led to impart in the sustainable economic growth of Pakistan. This study will help out the fiscal policy makers in the development of tax policy for the potential exports sector to EU. Furthermore, assist the financial managers to create a corporate strategy for the multinational firms.

The economic institutionalist literature often suggests that sub-optimal institutional arrangements impart unique distortions in China, and excessive corporate debt is a symptom of this condition. However, lax monetary policies after the global financial crisis, and specifically, quantitative easing have led to concerns about debt bubbles under a wide range of institutional regimes. This study draws on data from Chinese listed firms, supplemented by numerous macroeconomic control variables, to isolate the effect of international capital flows from other drivers of firm leverage. We conclude that the rise in, and distribution of, Chinese corporate debt can partly be ascribed to the effects of monetary policy outside of China and that Chinese institutional features amplify these effects. Whilst Chinese firms are affected by developments in the global financial ecosystem, domestic institutional realities and distortions may unevenly add their own particular effects, providing further support for and extending the variegated capitalism literature. Background: Tissue factor (TF), encoded by the F3 gene, is the main initiator of blood coagulation. The molecular epidemiology of the F3 gene and the relation to venous thromboembolism (VTE) remains to be determined. Objectives: The aim was to determine the molecular epidemiology and the importance of F3 variants for incident VTE by analysis of the population-based MDC study (Malmö Diet and Cancer), consisting of unselected middle-aged and older individuals. Methods: The exons of F3 were analyzed in a total of 28,794 individuals from the MDC cohort, and of these, 2584 (9 %) were affected by VTE during follow‐up (1991–2018). Qualifying variants used in gene-collapsing analysis were defined as loss-of-function or non-benign (PolyPhen-2) missense variants with minor allele frequency less than 0.1 %. Results: Exon sequencing of the F3 gene identified 61 different variants, 3′ UTR variants (n = 5), 5′ UTR variants (n = 9) synonymous (n = 10), in frame insertion (n = 1), splice region variants (n = 2), missense (n = 33) or loss-of-function variants (n = 1). No associations between common F3 gene variants and incident VTE were found. Seventeen rare variants were classified as qualifying and included in collapsing analysis (16 non-benign missense and 1 loss-of-function variants). The prevalence of F3 qualifying variants was 0.14 %. Seven individuals with F3 qualifying variants had VTE, while 34 individuals had no VTE. The adjusted VTE model was significant (hazard ratio = 2.1 [95 % confidence interval, 1.02–4.48], P-value = 0.045). Conclusions: Qualifying F3 gene variants are very rare, indicating a constrained gene. Rare but not common variation in the F3 gene may be involved in VTE.

This paper discusses some of the important insights from behavioral finance for international monetary and financial analysis. A broad approach to behavioral finance is advocated which includes analysis of the effects of uncertainty, perverse incentives, and complexity economics as well as the cognitive biases focused on in the initial contributions to behavioral finance. It offers reasons why capital mobility is often not perfect and expectations are sometimes not rational. Correctly interpreted it is not a wholesale attack on efficient market theory but rather argues that markets can behave differently at different times, being efficient sometimes and subject to destabilize or insufficiently stabilizing speculation at others and focuses on the conditions that make different types of behavior more likely. It helps provide insights into issues such as currency crisis, the effects of official intervention in foreign exchange markets, the international monetary trilemma, capital flow surges and reversals, the discipline effects of fixed exchange rates and international financial markets and why uncovered interest rate parity often does not hold.

This paper investigates the impact of services FDI inflows on service exports in selected South Asian countries by employing panel data techniques from 2000 to 2020. For robustness of panel data analyses, the study uses second-generation approach and a heterogeneous procedure for panel data for Southern Asia from 2000 to 2020. The empirical investigation of long-term impacts driven by augmented mean group (AMG), common correlated effects mean group (CCEMG), and mean group (MG) assessors further supports the significant and positive impact of FDI, economic growth, and energy consumption. The paper discovered robust evidence that FDI inflows in the service sector significantly contribute to the increase in services exports in the South Asian region. The findings of the paper have important policy implication for boosting exports and addressing the problem of perennial trade deficit in the South Asian region. The results reveal that adoption of investment liberalization policies is essential for South Asian countries to attract services sector FDI to enhance the services exports and to move toward the path of economic stability. When will members of a diaspora lend to the government in their country of origin? Diasporans make important contributions to developing countries by sending remittances and investment home. However, little is known about when and why diaspora communities are willing to invest in the governments of their country of origin. Diasporans may invest at home because of their affinity with their country of origin, whether in the form of national pride, stake in economic development, or political support. This paper investigates whether these different affinity-based motivations explain the interest of diaspora members in purchasing home country government bonds. We use a survey experiment fielded to members of the Pakistani diaspora living in the United States to investigate diaspora members' willingness to invest in home government bonds. We randomly manipulate the framing of the bond to measure heterogeneity in willingness to buy the home country government bond. We find that national pride and a stake in economic development are the strongest drivers for an individual's choice to invest in a home country bond. We corroborate these findings with follow-up interviews that reveal the resonance of appeals to national identity and developmental support. Objetivo: Presentar una serie de casos de pacientes con fracturas cervicales de tipo “masa lateral flotante” con énfasis en describir el rol de la lesión discal en la potencial inestabilidad segmentaria. Materiales y Métodos: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y retrospectivo de una serie de pacientes con fracturas facetarias de tipo “masa lateral flotante”, aisladas, diagnosticadas entre el 1 de enero de 2016 y el 1 de enero de 2022. Se incluyeron pacientes con lesiones de tipo “masa lateral flotante” según la clasificación AO, diagnosticadas por tomografía computarizada y, al menos, 6 meses de seguimiento. Se excluyó a aquellos con fracturas patológicas, lesiones por fragilidad ósea y registros incompletos. Resultados: Se analizó a 16 pacientes (media de la edad 42.86; DE 12,396), con predominio del sexo masculino (81,25%). El 68,75% tenía una lesión del disco intervertebral en el segmento fracturado y el 18,75%, anterolistesis. A 11 pacientes se les propuso un tratamiento conservador durante 12 semanas. La fractura consolidó en el 45,4% y 6 (54,6%) evolucionaron con traslación. El fracaso del tratamiento conservador se asoció con lesión del disco intervertebral. Once pacientes fueron operados, en su mayoría, con artrodesis cervical anterior monosegmentaria. Conclusiones: En esta serie de casos, la presencia de una lesión asociada del disco intervertebral fue más frecuente cuando el tratamiento conservador fracasó y cuando se decidió una artrodesis como tratamiento inicial. La mayoría de las cirugías se realizaron por vía anterior con discectomía y artrodesis cervical anterior en un único nivel, y se lograron buenos resultados.

The number of mesenchymal stromal/stem cell (MSC) therapeutics and types of clinical applications have greatly diversified during the past decade, including rapid growth of poorly regulated "Stem Cell Clinics" offering diverse "Unproven Stem Cell Interventions." This product diversification necessitates a critical evaluation of the reliance on the 2006 MSC minimal criteria to not only define MSC identity but characterize MSC suitability for intravascular administration. While high-quality MSC therapeutics have been safely administered intravascularly in well-controlled clinical trials, repeated case reports of mild-to-more-severe adverse events have been reported. These are most commonly related to thromboembolic complications upon infusion of highly procoagulant tissue factor (TF/CD142)-expressing MSC products. As TF/CD142 expression varies widely depending on the source and manufacturing process of the MSC product, additional clinical cell product characterization and guidelines are needed to ensure the safe use of MSC products. To minimize risk to patients receiving MSC therapy, we here propose to supplement the minimal criteria used for characterization of MSCs, to include criteria that assess the suitability of MSC products for intravascular use. If cell products are intended for intravascular delivery, which is true for half of all clinical applications involving MSCs, the effects of MSC on coagulation and hemocompatibility should be assessed and expression of TF/CD142 should be included as a phenotypic safety marker. This adjunct criterion will ensure both the identity of the MSCs as well as the safety of the MSCs has been vetted prior to intravascular delivery of MSC products.

The significance of digital investment has grown substantially, enabled by advancing technology, which provides digital monitoring of investment instruments. Consequently, analyzing these instruments has become imperative. In particular, investors are inclined to compare new investment opportunities with well-established global stock markets, seeking to capitalize on their advanced financial literacy. This study aims to employ econometric analysis to explore the dynamic relationship between Bitcoin and the BIST100 and NASDAQ 100 indices. The time frame for this investigation spans from January 1, 2017, to March 10, 2022. Stationarity was confirmed through unit root tests (ADF, PP, KPSS, ZA, FADF, and FFFFF ADF) for the subsequent utilization of Autoregressive Conditional Variance Models. Additionally, Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Variance and Dynamic Conditional Correlation Tests were conducted. Results from the Dynamic Conditional Correlation Test model revealed no statistically significant dynamic conditional correlation between Bitcoin and BIST 100. Conversely, a negative and significant dynamic conditional correlation emerged between Bitcoin and NASDAQ 100. Investors should not only monitor the market but also review academic studies before making investment decisions. In this regard, this study holds significant importance. The study is limited to the BTC, BIST, and NASDAQ indices. Researchers interested in the topic can increase the dataset to further enrich the study.

Tissue factor (TF) is the primary initiator of blood coagulation in humans. As improper intravascular TF expression and procoagulant activity underlie numerous thrombotic disorders, there has been longstanding interest in the contribution of heritable genetic variation in F3 , the gene encoding TF, to human disease. This review seeks to comprehensively and critically synthesize small case–control studies focused on candidate single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), as well as modern genome-wide association studies (GWAS) seeking to discover novel associations between variants and clinical phenotypes. Where possible, correlative laboratory studies, expression quantitative trait loci, and protein quantitative trait loci are evaluated to glean potential mechanistic insights. Most disease associations implicated in historical case–control studies have proven difficult to replicate in large GWAS. Nevertheless, SNPs linked to F3 , such as rs2022030, are associated with increased F3 mRNA expression, monocyte TF expression after endotoxin exposure, and circulating levels of the prothrombotic biomarker D-dimer, consistent with the central role of TF in the initiation of blood coagulation. The current study shows a new allophonic split in Pakistani English, challenging the widely accepted assumption that Pakistani English speakers produce/t/as a retroflex [t], claiming instead that they produce alveolar/t/in [st] cluster. Speech sound utterances of 15 undergrad PakE students were recorded to test this hypothesis. The participants involved in the experiments had spent more than ten years mastering PakE. From the utterances of participants, VOT of coronal stops and F3 of the following vowels were obtained. The findings showed that PakE speakers produced English/t/with a roughly 8-10 ms longer VOT in the words beginning with 'st' cluster. A significant F3 raising was also seen in the vowels after the coronal stops in 'st' clusters on word-initial margins. F3 raising is an indicator of the absence of retroflex gesture from the coronal stops. Based on these results, it is argued that a new allophonic split has emerged in the PakE, that is, it is produced as alveolar [t] in word-initial/st/clusters but a retroflex [ʈ] elsewhere. African swine fever (ASF) is an acute and severe disease transmitted among domestic pigs and wild boars. This disease is notorious for its high mortality rate and has caused great losses to the world's pig industry in the past few years. After infection, pigs can develop symptoms such as high fever, inflammation, and acute hemorrhage, finally leading to death. African swine fever virus (ASFV) is the causal agent of ASF; it is a large DNA virus with 150–200 genes. Elucidating the functions of each gene could provide insightful information for developing prevention and control methods. Herein, to investigate the function of I267L, porcine alveolar macrophages (PAMs) infected with an I267L-deleted ASFV strain (named ∆I267L) and wild-type ASFV for 18 h and 36 h were taken for transcriptome sequencing (RNA-seq). The most distinct different gene that appeared at both 18 hpi (hours post-infection) and 36 hpi was F3; it is the key link between inflammation and coagulation cascades. KEGG analysis (Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes analysis) revealed the complement and coagulation cascades were also significantly affected at 18 hpi. Genes associated with the immune response were also highly enriched with the deletion of I267L. RNA-seq results were validated through RT-qPCR. Further experiments confirmed that ASFV infection could suppress the induction of F3 through TNF-α, while I267L deletion partially impaired this suppression. These results suggest that I267L is a pathogenicity-associated gene that modulates the hemorrhages of ASF by suppressing F3 expression. This study provides new insights into the molecular mechanisms of ASFV pathogenicity and potential targets for ASFV prevention and control. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This work studies the effects that fiscal rules have on the probability of a sudden stop of net financial flows using data from 96 countries for the period 1985–2016. The estimates of several probit models show that fiscal rules could lower the probability of a sudden stop if they are formally enforced. Enforcement of supranational debt rules is important in lowering the likelihood of a country going through a sudden stop. I find that enforcement of supranational debt rules makes the countries that adhere to supranational debt rules less vulnerable to sudden stops by roughly 3.33 to 4.07 percentage points depending on the specifications. This could be due to an increase in the credibility of the country in the eyes of investors following the stronger commitment of the governments to adhere to these rules. These effects have been estimated using different specifications and models. The results are robust. On the other hand, I do not find enough statistically significant evidence regarding the effects of monitoring and well-defined escape clauses. The results about fiscal rules without taking these mechanisms into account indicate that fiscal rules on their own do not decrease the probability of a sudden stop. I find evidence that improvements in the current account balance, economic growth and institutional quality make a country less vulnerable to sudden stops, while a greater credit level, trade openness, and short term external debt increase the likelihood of a crisis. Background: The Beam F3 and 5.5 cm methods are the two most common targeting strategies for localizing the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) treatment site in repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) protocols. This prospective, randomized, double-blind comparative effectiveness trial assesses the clinical outcomes for these two methods in a naturalistic sample of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) undergoing clinical rTMS treatment. Methods: 105 adult patients with MDD (mean age = 43.2; range = 18–73; 66% female) were randomized to receive rTMS to the Beam F3 (n = 58) or 5.5 cm (n = 47) target. Between group differences from pre-to post-treatment were evaluated with the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) [primary outcome measure], Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), and clinician-administered Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Scale (MADRS). Primary treatment endpoint was completion of daily treatment series. Results: Per-protocol analyses showed no statistically significant differences on any measure between the 5.5 cm and F3 groups (all p ≥ 0.50), including percent improvement (PHQ-9: 39% vs. 39%; GAD-7: 34% vs. 27%; MADRS: 40% vs. 38%), response rate (PHQ-9: 37% vs. 43%; GAD-7: 27% vs. 30%; MADRS: 43% vs. 43%), and remission rate (PHQ-9: 22% vs. 21%; MADRS: 20% vs. 19%). Post hoc analysis of anxiety symptom change while controlling for depression severity suggested more favorable anxiolytic effects with 5.5 cm targeting (p = 0.03). Conclusions: Similar antidepressant effects were observed with DLFPC rTMS using either the Beam F3 or 5.5 cm targeting method, supporting clinical equipoise in MDD patients with head circumference ≤ 60 cm. Comparison to MRI-based targeting and differential effects on anxiety symptoms require further investigation. Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT03378570.

The notable surge in capital flows in recent years has emerged as a key factor shaping the dynamics of international financial markets and influencing economic performance of emerging economies. Even though macroeconomic fundamentals of an economy can explain some of the patterns in international capital flows, behavioral factors also seem to be essential for positioning capital flows across countries. In this study, we aim to examine whether overall economic sentiment towards Turkish economy plays a significant role on net portfolio flows to Türkiye. To this end, we first construct a novel text-based sentiment index called ''Turkish Economic Sentiment Index (TESI)'', to capture the behavioral tendencies of international investors and media towards Türkiye. Our subsequent step integrates TESI into autoregressive distributed lag models (ARDL) alongside major pull-push determinants to assess whether market sentiment holds discernible influence on capital influx into Turkey. The results reveal that the TESI and VIX stand out as pivotal determinants influencing international portfolio flows. The TESI has a positive impact on portfolio flow dynamics, whereas the degree of global risk aversion inversely affects these flows. These findings align with the contention that a favorable sentiment can boost portfolio inflows to emerging markets. Conversely, heightened volatility expectations in global markets can prompt outflows from these economies.

Purpose: This study investigates the impact of the Russian Ruble on the Czech crown, Polish zloty, and Hungarian forint during the Russia-Ukraine war. The euro is used as a comparative base unit in the four exchange rate parities. The Euro was used since the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Russia maintain intensive economic relations with the Eurozone. At the same time, the Visegrad (V4) countries are geographically located in the European continent and are bordered by the Eurozone member states. Methods: The series stands in daily frequency and indicate the period from February 1, 2022, to February 1, 2023. To generate the results, the VAR impulse response function, variance decomposition, vector error correction model, and granger causality test were performed. Results: Even though Russia demanded that gas payments be made in Rubles, this fact did not affect the Czech crown, Polish zloty, and Hungarian forint. Due to the fact that gas payments for the V4 countries were agreed in Euros through German contractors. During this period, the strong influence of the Czech crown on the Polish zloty and the Hungarian forint is observed. Implications: From a policy perspective, the results provide indications for the national governments and regulatory bodies on the implications of the Russian ruble during this conflict. In short, our findings document that the instability of currency pairs is not only economic but also geopolitical. Energy dependence on autocratic states not only endangers national security but can set exchange rates in cardiac arrest. Moreover, the geographical proximity to the conflict zone tends to be decisive in the collapse of national currencies.

This paper examines how the financial globalization affects international equity mutual funds' portfolio choices in emerging markets. By examining the monthly holdings of 155 international funds, we first show that these funds actively engage in a rebalancing strategy to maintain their risk preferences upon realization of excess return changes. We also document robust evidence that these funds' propensity of rebalancing is larger in a country whose equity market is more strongly correlated with the global market. The results help understand how the financial globalization may raise the portfolio risk of the international funds' equity holdings in emerging economies.
