The paper considers the possibility of determining the age and correlating peat sections by solving the inverse problem of magnetostratigraphy based on the findings of comprehensive (palaeomagnetic, petromagnetic, microprobe, and radiocarbon) studies on peats of the «Tyapka» and «Chlya» peat sections in the Lower Amur region. For this purpose, we used the values of relative paleointensity calculated following the technique described by Bagina-Petrova. There is no difference in the rate of magnetization fixation among studied peat samples, and the age of magnetization is comparable to the age of the peat deposits itself. The solution of the inverse problem of magnetostratigraphy using the values of relative paleointensity can be used to correlate peat sections among themselves and to estimate the rate of peat accumulation in different periods of the Holocene, even in the absence of radiocarbon dating for one of the correlated sections.

This paper presents Excursiona, an application that provides substantial value to group excursions. Excursiona promotes collaboration and awareness during the excursion, as the group members navigate the map. Moreover, users can share pictures of interesting points they discover and interact in the chat room. The application has great potential in fields that benefit from outdoor collaboration, with application cases on children with special needs or firefighters. Regarding the technological approach, Excursiona has been developed in Flutter, making it compatible with iOS and Android operating systems, which along other technological tools has enhanced the possibilities of the project. Finally, an evaluation with users has allowed the testing of the system and the evaluation of the collaborative and awareness features.

Objective: Caffeine is frequently used for the treatment of apnea in preterm babies. Its mechanism of action includes not only antagonism of adenosine receptors on central nervous system but also an increase in electrical activity of the diaphragm. Caffeine’s direct effect on diaphragm was investigated via electromyography, but ultrasound has not been used to show visible changes in muscles after the treatment before. Therefore, we aimed to assess the effect of caffeine on diaphragmatic function through ultrasonographic examination. Materials and Methods: It was a prospective observational study. Fifty-six participants receiving nasal continuous positive airway pressure with less than or equal to 32 weeks’ gestational age born were enrolled. Diaphragmatic thickness, amplitude of excursion, and velocity of movement were measured before and within 5 minutes after caffeine loading dose and compared to each other. The protocol was registered with ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier NCT04483492. Results: Diaphragmatic thicknesses and diaphragmatic velocity of movement did not differ after the treatment. However, amplitude of excursion of the diaphragm was found significantly higher after caffeine loading dose (8.7 mm, 10mm, respectively, P < .05). Conclusion: Diaphragm excursion increased after caffeine treatment in preterm babies, and this finding was potentially supported the direct effect of the caffeine on diaphragm. Diaphragmatic ultrasound, valued for its portability and safety, assesses both structural and functional aspects of the diaphragm. While some studies support its predictive value, others conflict. This meta-analysis aims to clarify diaphragmatic ultrasound's role in predicting successful liberation from mechanical ventilation in intensive care settings. A systematic search was performed on Web of Science, Scopus, and PubMed up to March, 2024. The search strategy included a combination of relevant medical subject heading (MeSH) terms and relevant keywords. We defined our eligibility criteria based on the PICO framework. Two authors performed the data extraction using a standardized sheet. The pooled mean difference was calculated using random effects model and Hedges’ g along with SD estimation. R and RStudio were used for the statistical analysis and creating forest and funnel plots. The pooled mean difference was 7.25 (95% CI: 4.20, 10.21) for DE among the two groups. We found a statistically significant difference among the two groups indicating that those with successful weaning from intubation had higher means of DE compared to those with failed weaning attempt (p-value

The guided tour in tourism is a dynamic, varied and variable form of guided communication between the tour guide and the tourists (tourists), which is planned, developed, delivered and led as a purposeful activity by the tour guide for the oral presentation of a specific object, included in the methodical plan, program and stage in the conduct of the tourist excursion. The guided tour talk is a relatively complete entity, part of the construction of the guided tour process, which is interpreted as a particular written and oral speech in the oratory of the guide. This text discusses the main methodological requirements for the preparation of a preliminary plan of the guided tour. The aim of this paper is to derive and interpret the theoretical dimensions of the methodological plan of the guided tour in its three-level structural composition: introductory part (exordium), main part (narration) and concluding part (perroratio). The observance of the structural parts in the preparation of the talk is also related to the way of its practical realization (course). The presentation of the talk reveals the topic as a whole. The dialogue with Alla Ceastina, who’s the doctor in the study of arts, senior scientific researcher, focuses on an interesting document discovered in the National Archives Agency of the Republic of Moldova, which provides information about the trip of a group consisting of 25 students and 4 teachers from the Real School for the boys travelling from Chișinău to the Romanian city of Iași, which took place at 4 and 5 October 1909. Today it is particularly interesting to follow in the footsteps of this excursion, surprisingly rich in historical facts, to visit architectural monuments such as: the Church of the Three Holy Hierarchs, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Saint Nicholas Church, the university, the theater, etc. Such a trip to Iași city remains relevant and can present the basis of a modern exciting tourist route for any guide. It’s known that the Real School for the boys of Chișinău opened on December 6, 1873, and its purpose was the development of practical and technical skills with the completion of general education. So, this year we celebrate 150 years since its establishment, it’s an additional reason to remember this institution.

Abstract Background Mechanical ventilation causes diaphragmatic atrophy and reduces diaphragmatic efficiency. Patients with diaphragmatic dysfunction have longer mechanical ventilation durations and intensive care unit stay. There is currently a scarcity of data on the effect of different modes of mechanical ventilation on diaphragmatic function and ultrasound-guided assessment of diaphragmatic efficiency. Results Sixty mechanically ventilated patients were randomly divided into four equal groups (15 each): patients were ventilated using either assist control pressure-controlled mode (group A), synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation pressure-controlled mode (group S), bi-level-positive airway pressure mode (group B) or pressure support ventilation mode (group P). The primary outcome was to assess the diaphragmatic excursion, while the secondary outcomes were to assess the diaphragmatic thickness fraction and the duration of the ICU stay. Patients in the P group had the highest diaphragmatic excursion indicating better diaphragmatic function. Conclusions When compared to other pressure-targeted ventilation modes, the pressure support ventilation mode may have the least risk of diaphragmatic dysfunction as preserves diaphragmatic structure and strength. Background/aim: It is known that the correlation of pulmonary function tests (PFT) with muscle dysfunction is insufficient. Here, we aimed to evaluate the diaphragm functions in individuals with Friedreich's ataxia (FRDA) and to examine its relationship with respiratory parameters and disease severity. Materials and methods: This prospective study, conducted between November and December 2022, at Erciyes University, included 14 individuals with genetically confirmed FRDA and an age- and gender-matched healthy control group of eight individuals. We examined pulmonary functions with spirometric methods and evaluated diaphragm excursion, and diaphragm thickness-expiratory (Tde) and - end of inspiration (Tdi) with ultrasonography during calm breathing. Thickening fraction (TF) calculated. Also, we examined PaCO2 at rest. The neurological status of individuals was assessed using the Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA). Results: The mean values of FEV1(lt), FEV1(%), FVC (lt), and FVC (%) were higher in the control group (p; <0.001, 0.013, <0.001, and 0.009, respectively). Also, mean Tdi, Tde, excursion and TF were lower in the FRDA group compared to the control group (p = 0.005, 0.294,0.005, and 0.019, respectively). The mean excursion value was 1.13 ± 0.54cm in the FRDA group and 1.71 ± 0.49cm in the control group. There is a strong, negative, and statistically significant correlation between SARA total score with excursion and TF (r = -0.7432, p = 0.002; r = -0.697, p = 0.008). There is no statistically significant relationship between excursion and BMI, standing-to-supine decrease in FVC, FEV1, and PaCO2. Also, the relationship between maximal inspiratory pressure (PImax) and excursion was moderate. Conclusion: Diaphragm ultrasound may reveal respiratory dysfunction better than PFT. Diaphragm excursion and TF are associated with disease scores in individuals with FDRA. Further studies are needed regarding the detection of alveolar hypoventilation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this article, we deal with the local time of simple symmetric random walks which counts the number of times that the random walk goes between zero and one and their excursions. First, by depicting typical sample paths of the random walk and the local time, we give a visual proof of a discrete analogue of the Le'vy's theorem which states the relationship between the local time and the maximum of the random walk. Second, excursions in this case are introduced and an example of calculation of some probability generating function using marked excursions is demonstrated. Finally, we provide a proof of the arc-sine law through the marked excursion technique for random walks which provides the probability distribution of the total time the random walk spends on the positive side. Little is known about the evolution of diaphragmatic function in the early post-cardiac surgery period. The main purpose of this work is to describe its evolution using ultrasound measurements of muscular excursion and thickening fraction (TF). Single-center prospective study of 79 consecutive uncomplicated elective cardiac surgery patients, using motion-mode during quiet unassisted breathing. Excursion and TF were measured sequentially for each patient [pre-operative (D1), 1 day (D2) and 5 days (D3) after surgery]. Pre-operative median for right and left hemidiaphragmatic excursions were 1.8 (IQR 1.6 to 2.1) cm and 1.7 (1.4 to 2.0) cm, respectively. Актуальность изучения возможностей и специфики применения интерактивного взаимодействия на экскурсиях религиоведческой тематики определяется активным поиском методических приемов проведения таких экскурсий современными педагогами и экскурсоводами при общей неразработанности форм и способов применения интерактивных педагогических технологий на экскурсиях, посвященных религиозной культуре. Объектом анализа являются специфика и возможности применения интерактивного взаимодействия на религиоведческой экскурсии. Материалом послужил педагогический опыт проведения интерактивных экскурсий в рамках проекта «Женский монастырь в Томске: погружение в реальность». Выявлены особенности интерактивного взаимодействия на экскурсии религиоведческой тематики, к числу которых принадлежат опора на актуальные знания и опыт аудитории и погружение в религиозную культуру через использование на экскурсии символов этой культуры. В результате показаны положительные результаты применения интерактивного взаимодействия: разрушение у аудитории стереотипов о религиозной культуре, рост интереса к традиции, а также к истории самого экскурсионного объекта. Материалы статьи могут быть использованы в учебном процессе высших учебных заведений и средних общеобразовательных школ.

Abstract Background The limitation of activity due to dyspnea in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients is affected by diaphragmatic dysfunction and reduced lung function. This study aimed to analyze the association between diaphragm function variables and forced expiratory volume in the first second (FEV1) and to estimate the clinical significance of diaphragm function in the correlation between COPD severity and lung function. Methods This prospective, single-center, cross-sectional observational study enrolled 60 COPD patients in a respiratory outpatient clinic. Data for baseline characteristics and the dyspnea scale were collected. Participants underwent a pulmonary function test (PFT), a 6-minute walk test (6MWT), and diaphragm function by ultrasonography. Results The right excursion at forced breathing showed the most significant correlation with FEV1 (r = 0.370, p = 0.004). The cutoff value was 6.7 cm of the right diaphragmatic excursion at forced breathing to identify the FEV1 above 50% group. In the group with a right diaphragmatic excursion at forced breathing 0.05). In the group with ≥ 6.7 cm, mMRC and the total distance of 6MWT showed a significant difference between FEV1 under and above 50% (p = 0.014, 456.7 ± 69.7 m vs. 513.9 ± 60.3 m, p = 0.018, respectively). Conclusion The right diaphragmatic forced excursion was closely related to FEV1, and analysis according to the right diaphragmatic forced excursion-based cut-off value showed a significant difference between both groups. When the diaphragm function was maintained, there was a lot of difference in the 6MWT’s factors according to the FEV1 value. Our data suggest that diaphragmatic function should be performed when interpreting PFT.

Resistance exercise range of motion (ROM) influences muscular adaptations. However, there are no consistent practical guidelines about the optimal ROM for maximizing muscle hypertrophy. The objective of this article was to systematically review the literature for studies that compared the effects of full ROM (fROM) and partial ROM (pROM) on muscle hypertrophy. PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, and Web of Science databases were searched to identify articles from the earliest record up to and including April 2022. We calculated the effect size (ES) scores of the variables of interest. Eleven studies were included in the review. Full ROM and pROM performed in the initial part of the ROM elicited greater muscle hypertrophy of the rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, biceps brachii, and brachialis distal sites (between-groups ES: 0.20–0.90) than pROM performed in the final part of the ROM. fROM elicited greater muscle growth on the gluteus maximus and adductors than pROM in the final part of the ROM (between-groups ES: 0.24–0.25). Initial pROM produced more favorable proximal rectus femoris hypertrophy than fROM (between-groups ES: 0.35–0.38). pROM in the middle part of the ROM elicited greater triceps brachii hypertrophy than fROM (between-group ES: 1.21). In conclusion, evidence suggests that when training at a longer muscle length—through either pROM or fROM—some muscles, such as quadriceps femoris, biceps brachii, and triceps brachii, tend to experience optimal growth. Thus, the use pROM in the initial part of the excursion in combination with fROM training should be considered when prescribing hypertrophy-oriented resistance training programs. Suppose that (Xt ) t ≥0 is a one-dimensional Brownian motion with negative drift -μ. It is possible to make sense of conditioning this process to be in the state 0 at an independent exponential random time and if we kill the conditioned process at the exponential time the resulting process is Markov. If we let the rate parameter of the random time go to 0, then the limit of the killed Markov process evolves like X conditioned to hit 0, after which time it behaves as X killed at the last time X visits 0. Equivalently, the limit process has the dynamics of the killed "bang-bang" Brownian motion that evolves like Brownian motion with positive drift +μ when it is negative, like Brownian motion with negative drift -μ when it is positive, and is killed according to the local time spent at 0. An extension of this result holds in great generality for a Borel right process conditioned to be in some state a at an exponential random time, at which time it is killed. Our proofs involve understanding the Campbell measures associated with local times, the use of excursion theory, and the development of a suitable analogue of the "bang-bang" construction for a general Markov process. As examples, we consider the special case when the transient Borel right process is a one-dimensional diffusion. Characterizing the limiting conditioned and killed process via its infinitesimal generator leads to an investigation of the h-transforms of transient one-dimensional diffusion processes that goes beyond what is known and is of independent interest.

This study reports on the practice of town walks for citizens as a means of outreach of geography, which is a modification of excursions, a common observation method in geography. The town walk included two segments: fieldwork, in which participants walked and observed the urban area, and a workshop, in which participants collaborated and discussed landscape characteristics. When targeting citizens, the geographical perspectives implicitly assumed by geographers need to be verbalized and communicated in an easy-to-understand manner. By introducing the perspective of landscape layers, participants could acquire diverse viewpoints on the landscape and deepen their understanding of the area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Natal habitat preference induction (NHPI) occurs when animals exhibit a preference for new habitat that is similar to that which they experienced in their natal environment, potentially leading to post‐dispersal success. While the study of NHPI is typically focused on post‐settlement home ranges, we investigated how this behavior may manifest during extra‐home range movements (EHRMs), both to identify exploratory prospecting behavior and assess how natal habitat cues may influence path selection before settlement. We analyzed GPS collar relocation data collected during 79 EHRMs made by 34 juvenile and subadult white‐tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) across an agricultural landscape with highly fragmented forests in Illinois, USA. We developed a workflow to measure multidimensional natal habitat dissimilarity for each EHRM relocation and fit step‐selection functions to evaluate whether natal habitat similarity explained habitat selection along movement paths. Across seasons, selection for natal habitat similarity was generally weak during excursive movements, but strong during dispersals, indicating that NHPI is manifested in dispersal habitat selection in this study system and bolstering the hypothesis that excursive movements differ functionally from dispersal. Our approach for extending the NHPI hypothesis to behavior during EHRMs can be applied to a variety of taxa and can expand our understanding of how individual behavioral variation and early life experience may shape connectivity and resistance across landscapes. The purpose of this article is to determine what forms of active leisure and tourism activities are being chosen by representatives of various groups of society in Lithuania and to find out the importance of Nordic walking in the context of active tourism and leisure. The pandemic, which lasted for several years, limited the opportunities of Lithuanians to travel abroad, but encouraged the search for new forms of leisure in Lithuania. A wider offer of local excursions appeared, more and more Lithuanians became interested in Nordic walking and other forms of active leisure. The research showed that a majority of respondents take part in hiking, water sports and cycling. All these activities are extremely popular during the warmer seasons. Meanwhile, Nordic walking is just beginning to establish itself as a popular form of active leisure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Parents of children with medical complexity (CMC) have extra child‐raising responsibilities because of the time commitments necessary for care, and their social participation is often compromised. Experiencing leisure excursions with such children may be a solution to some of these problems but the first‐hand experience of excursions in regard to their psychological impact on the caregivers of CMC remains to be appraised. Methods: Semi‐structured interviews were conducted, via video conference, with eight informal and eight formal caregivers of CMC who attended an excursion to Tokyo Disney Land (TDL). We investigated the psychological changes that they had experienced through the excursion, performing inductive thematic analysis. Results: Three themes were identified among parents and five were identified among medical professionals. Themes reported by the parents were: Increased trust in the public and society (Theme 1); confidence for other challenges (Theme 2), and connection with other parents in the non‐medical settings (Theme 3). Themes reported by medical professionals were: Expanding the initiative to other CMC (Theme 1); feeling bonded with other caregivers within the working group (Theme 2); information exchange across different working groups (Theme 3), positive responses from CMC (Theme 4); families' confidence to go out (Theme 5). Conclusions: This study showed that the excursion to TDL led to positive psychological changes in both medical professionals and parents of CMC, enhancing trust, connection, and confidence. The promising results of this study suggest a need for further research about the impact of an excursion on caregivers of CMC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the research is to determine the attitude of parents of children in the lower grades of primary school towards school excursions. The theoretical part of the article presents the importance of excursions, as well as the role of parents in the entire process of organising excursions, while the second part of the article presents the results of the research. 208 parents participated, 39.9% being fathers and 60.1% being mothers. Data was collected with an instrument created for the purposes of this research and was analysed in detail and presented using a descriptive method. Parents’ attitudes are positively oriented towards excursions, noting their pedagogical significance for the development of the child’s entire personality. The role of parents in the process of preparation and organisation of the excursion is of great importance, and it is necessary that future research pays more attention to the parental function in all phases and flows of the excursion.

This article discusses the role of aesthetic education in the educational process, its implementation in the educational process, its importance in the acquisition of knowledge, the aesthetic improvement of students' knowledge in the content of the natural sciences, and the creation of problem situations., as well as the use of aesthetic education in the teaching of science in the curricula and programs of general education schools, the issues of establishing aesthetic education in a serious attitude towards the environment, students' reflections on nature, their worldview, behavior, general culture, environmental protection in teaching science, the appropriate development of opportunities and means, teaching the development of aesthetic thinking of students in all its forms: in the classroom, extracurricular activities, excursions and extracurricular activities, to determine the possibilities for the development of aesthetic thinking in them through training, to develop aesthetic education of students in teaching natural science, to analyze the facts of students' activities, events and the creation of a mechanism connections in the study of phenomena, the conscious assimilation of educational material through the application of previously acquired natural science knowledge, skills and competencies in new situations, the content of natural science education is consistent the value of knowledge of various academic disciplines that study the problems of the relationship between man and nature, and the content of aesthetic education is modern education, described with the help of technology. Previous studies have demonstrated that respiratory dysfunction has a potential association with low back pain (LBP). Despite the role of the diaphragm for respiration and spinal stability, knowledge of the function of both sides of the diaphragm in subjects with LBP is still limited. This study aimed to compare the structural integrity and function of the right and left hemidiaphragm by ultrasonography (USG) in subjects with and without nonspecific chronic low back pain (NS-CLBP). A total of 37 subjects with NS-CLBP and 34 healthy subjects participated in this case-control study. The thickness, thickness change, and excursion of the right and left hemidiaphragm were compared within and between the groups during quiet breathing (QB) and deep breathing (DB) through B-mode and M-mode ultrasound imaging. The LBP group had a significantly smaller degree of right hemidiaphragm thickness change (P =.001) compared with the healthy control group, with a strong effect size. Nevertheless, there was no significant change for diaphragm thickness and excursion between the two groups. The result showed that, in the healthy group, the right hemidiaphragm had a significantly smaller thickness at expiration and larger thickness change compared with the left hemidiaphragm, with a moderate effect size. Based on the multivariate prediction analysis, the right hemidiaphragm thickness change might significantly predict LBP. We found that participants with LBP had a smaller degree of right hemidiaphragm thickness change. Also, the right hemidiaphragm thickness change might significantly predict LBP. Optimizing postprandial blood glucose (PPG) levels after mixed meals that contain high fat and protein remains a challenge in the treatment of type 1 diabetes. This study evaluated the efficacy of different algorithms used for dosing insulin based on counting units of high fat and high protein (HFHP) meals with the current conventional method of counting carbohydrates alone to control PPG excursions. The MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane electronic databases were searched, with the analysis restricted to randomized control trials (RCTs). The primary outcome was the PPG (mean and standard deviation) at 240 min. The pooled final estimate was the mean difference (MD) of the PPGs at 240 min using random effect models to account for heterogeneity. In total, 15 studies were identified and included in the systemic review, of which 12 were RCTs, and three studies were non‐randomized trials. The pooled MD of the PPG at 240 min was in favor of additional insulin doses in HFHP meals compared to the carbohydrate counting alone. The statistically significant results favored the combined bolus (30:70) that split over 2 h in insulin pump therapy with pooled MD of the PPG, 240 min of −24.65; 95% CI: −36.59, −8.41; and heterogeneity, 0%. Other statistically significant results favored the additional insulin added to insulin to carb ratio (ICR) of meal bolus (25–60% ICR) in multiple daily injections therapy with the pooled MD of PPG at 240 min, −21.71; 95% CI: −38.45, −4.73; and heterogeneity, 18%. Insulin treatment based on fat and protein content, in addition to carbohydrate counting, is more effective than the carbohydrate counting method alone; however, further research is warranted to determine the best equation for fat and protein counting, particularly in people with multiple daily injections. • The excursion distance and tension of bilateral long finger FDP tendon were measured in vivo in 20 healthy students using Ultrasound System. • It is suggested that if the surgical repair was strong and without any complications, the active flexion protocol might work best to regain tension excursion. However, if there are complex problems involved, then the Kleinert approach or Duran approach would be chosen. • Based on previous studies, the tension generated on FDP tendon by active finger flexion was safe for repaired tendons with good quality. The corresponding SWE value was 391 ± 66.03 kPa measured in our research, and this value could be used as a safe reference during postsurgery treatment. Interpretive description study. In management of patients with flexion tendon injuries, passive, control active and active motion protocols were proposed after repair to minimize tendon adhesion. The purpose of this study was to compare the excursion distance and the tension of Flexor Digitorum Profundus (FDP) during simulated active and passive motion using ultrasonography techniques using normal subjects. Ultrasonographic assessment of FDP tendon of the middle finger was performed at the wrist level on 20 healthy college students using 3 types of treatment protocols: modified Kleinert protocol, modified Duran protocol, and active finger flexion protocol. The excursion distance was measured following the musculotendinous junction of FDP using the B mode ultrasound system. The elasticity of FDP tendon was measured using the shear wave elastography technique. The excursion distance and the elasticity value were compared among 3 protocols using one-way ANOVA analysis. Twelve male and 8 female students with mean age of 22.6 ± 1.8 years were invited to join the study. The excursion distance of FDP was 21.82 ± 3.77 mm using the active finger flexion protocol, 8.59 ± 2.59 mm using the modified Duran protocol, and 12.26 ± 2.71 mm using the modified Kleinert protocol. The elasticity was significantly higher in extension position when compared to passive flexion positions, but found lower than active flexion position. The active finger protocol was found to require strongest tension of the tendon and with longest excursion. There was similar tension generated using both passive motion protocols. The modified Duran protocol appeared to create less excursion upon movements than the modified Kleinert approach using the objective ultrasonic evaluation. It is suggested that if the surgical repair was strong and without any complications, the active flexion protocol might work best to regain tension excursion. Abstract Background The diaphragm muscle whose dysfunction may be very common in patients undergoing mechanical ventilation (Ferrari G, De Filippi G, Elia F, Panero F, Volpicelli G, Aprà F. Crit Ultrasound J 6:8, 2014). Aim: To evaluate real-time ultrasound in the evaluation of diaphragmatic thickening, thickening fraction, and/or excursion to predict extubation outcomes. We aimed to compare these parameters with other traditional weaning measures is a fundamental. Results Out of 80 included patients, 20 (25%) have failed extubation. Diaphragmatic thickening (DT), thickening fraction (DTF), and/or excursion (DE) were significantly higher in the successful group compared to those who failed extubation (p < 0.05). Cutoff values of diaphragmatic measures associated with successful extubation (during tidal breathing) were ≥ 17 mm for DE; ≥ 2.1 cm for DT inspiration; ≥ 15.5 mm for DT expiration, functional residual capacity (FRC); and ≥ 32.82% for DTF %, giving 68%, 95%, 62%, and 90% sensitivity, respectively, and 65%, 100%, 100%, and 75% specificity, respectively. Cutoff values of diaphragmatic parameters associated with successful extubation (during deep breathing) were > 28.5 mm DT Insp, total lung capacity (TLC); >22.5mm DT Exp (RV); >37 DTF %; and > 31 mm DE, giving 100%, 73%, 97%, and 75% sensitivity and 65%, 75%, 100%, and 55% specificity, respectively. Rapid shallow breathing index (RSBI) had 47% sensitivity but 90% specificity. Conclusion Ultrasound evaluation of diaphragmatic parameters could be a good predictor of weaning in patients who passed the T-tube.

We evaluated the tendon length and excursion after extensor tendon grafting following ruptures at the distal radioulnar joint in eight patients. The mean patient age was 70.8 years (range 58 to 84), and the mean follow-up period was 63 months (range 12 to 129). Radiographic markers were placed on ends of the grafted tendon to assess changes in length and passive excursion. The mean length of the grafted tendon and mean passive excursion were 68.2 mm and 4.4 mm immediately after tendon grafting, 76.1 mm and 7.1 mm at 1 year postoperatively, and 76.3 mm and 7.3 mm at final follow-up, respectively. The mean elongation of the grafted tendon was 12% and mean increase of excursion was 2.9 mm. We recommend that tension set during extensor tendon grafting should be with the metacarpophalangeal joint of the affected finger in a slightly extended position as compared with adjacent fingers. The study compared changes in strength and regional muscle hypertrophy between different ranges of motion (ROM) in the knee extension exercise. Forty-five untrained women were randomized to either a control group or to perform the exercise in one of the following 4 groups (0°=extended knee): Full ROM (FULLROM: 100°−30° of knee flexion); Initial Partial ROM (INITIALROM: 100°−65°); Final Partial ROM (FINALROM: 65°−30°); Varied ROM (VARROM: daily alternation between the ROM of INITIALROM and FINALROM). Pre- and post-training assessments included one repetition maximum (1RM) testing in the ROM corresponding to the initial, final and full ROM, and measurement of cross-sectional areas of the rectus femoris and vastus lateralis muscles at 40%, 50%, 60% and 70% of femur length in regard to regional muscle hypertrophy. Results showed that the INITIALROM group presented a greater relative increase than all groups at 70%, and at 50% and 60% the increases were greater than FINALROM, FULLROM, and non-training control (CON) groups. Moreover, FINALROM group presented similar changes compared to the CON group at 60% and 70%. In regard to 1RM, FINALROM and INITIALROM groups presented greater relative increases at the ROM trained, and no group showed greater increases than VARROM or INITIALROM, regardless the ROM tested. In conclusion, partial ROM training in the initial phase of the knee extension exercise promoted greater relative hypertrophy in certain muscle regions than training in other ROM configurations, and no group promoted a greater 1RM increase than VARROM group, which showed similar 1RM increases in the different ROMs tested. With the shrinking feature size of integrated circuits driven by continuous technology migrations for wafer fabrication, the control of tightening critical dimensions is critical for yield enhancement, while physical failure analysis is increasingly difficult. In particular, the yield ramp up stage for implementing new technology node involves new production processes, unstable machine configurations, big data with multiple co-linearity and high dimensionality that can hardly rely on previous experience for detecting root causes. This research aims to propose a novel data-driven approach for Analysing semiconductor manufacturing big data for low yield (namely, excursions) diagnosis to detect process root causes for yield enhancement. The proposed approach has shown practical viability to efficiently detect possible root causes of excursion to reduce the trouble shooting time and improve the production yield effectively. From their creation in the mid-nineteenth century in Britain railway excursions provided working people with the means to expand their horizons and create new opportunities for identity- and money-making. This article explores the role of the social entrepreneur and their affect on social mobility. It also re-evaluates working-class leisure in the south of England and challenges the notion that the working-classes were not proactive in establishing their own unique commercial leisure cultures. Using a case study of two dockyard excursion enterprises, which were operated as sideline ventures by skilled artisans of the Royal Dockyard in Portsmouth, Hampshire, UK, the article will demonstrate how local working-class access to travel and cultural experiences were broadened and transformed through their initiatives and analyse the role and influence of these men on their co-workers and in wider society. This essay looks at Wordsworth's 'Laodamía' as an example of a neoclassical phase that his writings took, beginning in 1814 and continuing for about a decade. I examine Wordsworth's verse form, an adaptation of the stanza Shakespeare used in 'Venus and Adonis', and also look at the ways in which he modifies his classical sources, especially Ovid's Heroides xiii. The essay then considers the style of the poem, especially how Wordsworth incorporates translations and paraphrases of passages from Virgil's Aeneid, which is itself one of his classical sources. This note is devoted to the study of the maximum of the excursion of a random walk with negative drift and light-tailed increments. More precisely, we determine the local asymptotics of the joint distribution of the length, the maximum, and the time at which this maximum is achieved.
