AbstractThe global push for environmental protection often adopts a universal approach, despite evidence of significant disparities in environmentalism across nations. This study uses data from 28 countries in the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) 2020 Environment module to explore the determinants of pro-environmental behavior. Applying the value-belief-norm (VBN) framework, it examines how societal progress influences the pathways from environmental values to behaviors, with a particular focus on less developed countries that ranked lower on the Weighted Index of Social Progress (WISP). Initial findings show that certain factors such as self-efficacy, environmental concern, pro-environmental norms, and exposure to environmental problems consistently predict behavior across WISP clusters, though the magnitude and significance of these associations vary. However, country-level variation within clusters highlights the limitations of grouping countries solely on social progress rankings. Future research should consider both between- and within-cluster variation, and examine other potential methods, including multilevel modeling with country-level random slopes. This study utilized a Structural Equation Modeling approach to model and measure the influence of environmental attitudes and preschool teachers' beliefs regarding environmental education. Data was collected from 324 preschool teachers in Hanoi, Danang, and Ho Chi Minh City through an online questionnaire. SmartPLS software was used for data analysis. The results indicated that the environmental attitudes of preschool teachers have a significant, positive, and strong influence on their beliefs regarding environmental education, with path coefficients valued at 0.734 (p < 0.05), the model's explanatory power of 0.539, and the effect size of 1.170. In addition, this study provided reliability and validity scales for environmental attitudes and preschool teachers' beliefs regarding environmental education. These findings imply that it is necessary to cultivate and enhance a positive attitude toward the environment among preschool teachers through initial preschool teacher training and professional development for in-service preschool teachers. This will help solidify their beliefs about environmental education.

Improving the scope of environmental education given in schools and establishing environmental awareness among students are the most important steps to be taken to transfer this awareness to the next generations. The aim of this study is to examine the knowledge, emotions and behaviours of secondary school students ranging from 11 to 13 for environmental health and environmental protection. The study was carried out in the district of Karaköprü, a metropolitan settlement in Şanlıurfa for the 2020–2021 academic year, regarding environmental health and environmental protection, which has decreased with the effect of the pandemic. In this study, a questionnaire was applied to students and their attitudes were evaluated according to a 5‐point Likert scale. The attitudes of the students were detailed on the basis of 'gender' and 'mother education level' factors. It was found that the male students in the study group had more knowledge about environmental health and protection compared to the female students. Younger consumers are important in addressing environmental problems caused by consumption activities. It is mediated through green behavior, which is influenced by Internal factors. Thus, this study examines how young Indonesian consumers' environmental attitudes, knowledge, and responsibility relate to their green consumption habits. Using the voluntary sampling approach, 328 respondents were chosen, and data were examined using SEM and descriptive analysis. The findings demonstrated that views about the environment and green consumer behavior were significantly influenced by environmental knowledge. A person's attitude greatly influences their green consumption habits. These findings support the cognitive-affective-behavioral (CAB) hypothesis, which can be applied to similar study subjects or topics. An important factor influencing perceptions is environmental responsibility. It follows the Norm Activation Theory (NAM). In contrast to green consumption behavior, the effect of environmental responsibility was not significant. It is not in line with the NAM, so it is recommended that the theory be modified or other theories be used to examine similar variables. Environmental responsibility is significantly impacted by environmental knowledge. While attitudes were in the high category, knowledge, responsibility, and green consumption behavior were in the medium category. The study suggests marketers offer and promote eco-friendly products to provide more choices to consumers. These results also provide good insights for policymakers to achieve sustainable consumption targets by considering knowledge enhancement through environmental campaigns on social media. The European Union is increasingly directing efforts and resources toward promoting the adoption of energy saving measures among citizens, but the effectiveness of these efforts cannot be ensured if the heterogeneity of citizens is neglected. This paper assesses whether Greek citizens present heterogeneity in terms of their energy behavior and investigates whether they can be classified based on the practices they apply to reduce energy costs and their environmental attitudes. To that end, the study collected a representative citizen sample, and k-means cluster analysis was performed. Results indicated significant heterogeneity and four clusters were identified: 'Extreme heat savers and pro-environmental food consumers' saved on heating but neglected practices regarding lighting, hot water use, and transport; 'Heat savers and environmentally unaware' applied energy saving measures only to lower heating costs; 'Environmentally aware energy savers' were the most engaged segment in the application of energy saving measures driven by pro-environmental attitudes; and 'Mindful resources and transport users' did not apply any measures for heating despite having positive attitudes in terms of electricity, water and transport use. Therefore, it is necessary to train citizens on pro-environmental practices, and in doing so, the recorded heterogeneity can guide the design of differentiated and effective approaches. This discussion examines segmentation by environmental attitudes in Kuwait using a survey (n = 1121) of adult Kuwaiti citizens. Attitudes were measured with a shortened version of the Environmental Attitudes Inventory (EAI) scale as adapted in prior work about the UAE. Consistent with research suggesting that environmental attitudes frequently reflect local conditions, the dimensional structure in Kuwait was not very similar to that of the UAE case. The Kuwait data do, however, yield a dimensional structure which reflects the broader debate in the sustainability literature on the relative balance of environmental vs. socio-economic concerns. Cluster analysis on these dimensions yielded five distinct segments ranging from not very strong concern about either to strong concern about both, for focusing on one or the other. Communication is a strategic management lever for promoting user knowledge, understanding, acceptance, support, and conservation-related pro-environmental behavior within Coastal and Marine Protected Areas (CMPAs). But while user segmentation is considered a traditional operational tool for targeting user audiences effectively within terrestrial protected areas, research also highlights a low level of concrete application to CMPAs. Based on Public Perceptions Research literature, this study explores a panel of eight theoretical variables that reflect the multidimensional character of recreationists’ perceptions of CMPAs and how the related results could inform appropriate CMPA communication strategies. Onsite face-to-face interviews with 1,000 users were conducted for seven recreational activities (hiking, surfing, scuba-diving, boating, sailing, kite-surfing, kayaking) across a total of ten local sites. Results revealed that despite sharing a common motivation for being in contact with nature, recreationists expressed diverse perceptions and attitudes toward CMPAs and management, which can be divided into five segments: “CMPA-Not-convinced” (31.3% of all recreationists), “CMPA-Local Conservator” (11.5%), “CMPA-Not-Responsible” (12.7%), “CMPA-Passers-by” (20.1%) and “CMPA-Convinced” (24.4%). Findings show the value of visitor segmentation as an operational tool to inform CMPA management and communication strategies in a context of low knowledge about visitor audiences. Tourism destinations are groups of particular stakeholders whose lives are influenced by the actions of both residents and visitors, either by direct or indirect means. Locals interact with the destination more frequently than visitors, and their actions have a stronger impact on the ecosystem and resources. The study aims to explain factors influencing environmentally responsible behavior (ERB) and how cities can create more livable, resilient, and ecologically sustainable urban environments by encouraging and supporting residents to adopt eco-friendly practices. Based on data from Valjevo residents in Western Serbia, this research aims to explain how residents' perceptions of attachment, involvement, and environmental attitudes influence environmentally responsible behavior (ERB). The findings validate a significant relationship between residents' ERB and environmental attitudes, involvement, and attachment. Additionally, residents' involvement and attachment directly affect their environmental attitudes. The findings support the crucial role of locals in environmental conservation and sustainable development. Practical implications provide insights into mitigating the environmental impact of residents' activities, leading to effective solutions for ecosystem protection. These findings can inform decision-makers and community members in planning and implementing laws and practical actions to address negative environmental impacts in tourist areas, thereby supporting sustainable development initiatives. AbstractIn this study, we examine public perceptions of the importance of addressing marine ecosystem problems by including an item (which we treated as a dependent variable) in the Environment IV module of the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) in New Zealand. Overall importance perception was high (mean rating of 4.44 on a 5-point scale). However, our hypotheses that ratings on ISSP items, which implicitly represent marine stressors (e.g., air pollution, nuclear waste), would be consistently associated with high-importance ratings for addressing marine ecosystem problems were not supported. This observation suggests that perceptions of marine issues are not necessarily underpinned by an understanding of multiple marine stressors. Including compulsory marine-related items in the ISSP could provide a clearer understanding of public perceptions of marine ecosystems and assist in informing public education and communication. This inclusion would offer a valuable global perspective, given that the ISSP is implemented in Western and non-Western countries. The ISSP offers questions on multiple environmental domains, including attitudinal, behavioral, and political and unique demographic questions that would enable in-depth country-comparative analyses of marine-related perceptions not possible in existing international environmental perception surveys. AbstractNearly half the tasks currently performed by humans could be automated, which means that large segments of society are expected to seek new jobs within the next few years. Automation and digitalization can be critical in reducing greenhouse gasses and combating climate change. However, they may also reduce individual support for environmental policies. The economic changes brought about by these innovations could reduce environmental concerns among the social groups most affected by the associated loss of jobs. Using data from the International Social Survey Program, this study examines the impact of technological change on environmental attitudes and policy preferences. We hypothesize that individuals exposed to automation will be less likely to care about the environment and less likely to support policies imposing taxes to address climate change or other environmental problems. We use a tailored and objective measure, operating at the individual level, to quantify the degree of exposure to labor market risks. Then we analyze how automatization risk influences individuals developing a propensity to resist environmental regulation within various social and cultural contexts. The results of this research can help us understand how structural changes in the economy affect individuals’ preferences when addressing fundamental environmental problems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Few controlled studies have examined the effect of nature-based training on environmental activism; hence the results are unclear. This makes it hard to draw conclusions about what caused what and provide suggestions for solutions. The study's authors detail the findings from an experiment that assessed the impact of a "nature-based environmental education (NBEE)" course on students' environmental attitudes (EA) & behaviours (EB). The children in the control group were also part of the course, but they continued with their regular schooling. Seven elementary schools in Spain were involved in the initiative. Classes were assigned at random to either the NBEE course or the traditional "environmental education (EE)" programme at each school. Our research shows that compared to the control group, the NBEE group had much higher increases in children's EA levels. In both groups of kids, the average prevalence of EB remained rather stable over time. Our findings support the idea that formal education programmes might benefit from including a nature-based pedagogy in their curricula to help shape students' environmental consciousness. Phoenix acaulis (Roxb.), a common understory shrub in Nepal's Chure region, has remained largely understudied until now. Therefore, this study aims to examine the ecological impact of P. acaulis on Shorea robusta (Gaertn. f.) forest properties and to explore associated community perceptions in S. robusta forest of Udayapur district, Nepal. Stratified random sampling was adopted for this study where P. acaulis density (high, low and absent) was considered as basis of stratification. Altogether, 45 rectangular plots of 10 m x 10 m area (15 each category) were established for regeneration survey and soil sample collection (up to 30 cm). Soil quality index (SQI) method was used for soil quality assessment using indicators on the basis of prior studies conducted in Nepal. Using random sampling, a total of 52 households from the community forest user group were interviewed to gather their insights on the perceived effects of P. acaulis and its management. Highest S. robusta seedling and sapling density was observed in P. acaulis absent area (1132 ± 9.65 ha⁻¹ and 60 ± 0.63 ha⁻¹) where lowest in P. acaulis dense area (548 ± 7.4 ha⁻¹ and 4 ± 0.2 ha⁻¹). Similarly, higher SQI was in areas with high P. acaulis density (0.49) followed by low (0.45) and absent area (0.39). Most respondents advocated for removing P. acaulis from the forest, highlighting significant concerns among stakeholders. Our study suggests a positive impact P. acaulis on soil quality but indicates a negative impact on S. robusta regeneration. Therefore, further research to explore management strategies that balance the positive impact on soil quality with the observed negative influence on regeneration in P. acaulis presence areas is recommended.

This article aims to analyse the attitudes of Serbian university students towards environmental issues and risks, as it is crucial to understand these attitudes to shape future environmental policies and promote sustainability initiatives. The survey, which covered socio-demographic, economic, and environmental variables, gathered insights for gaining insights into environmental awareness and important factors promoting pro-environmental behaviour among youth. In total, 165 responses were obtained. A Chi-square test of independence and a logistic regression model was employed for analysis. The survey results show university students perceive inadequate recycling habits (65%) and limited green spaces (73%) in their cities. They consider the environmental risks considerable, possibly leading to migration (66%) and urban depopulation (47%). They advocate for increased awareness campaigns (66.7%) and greater use of renewable energy (64.2%), as well as stricter penalties for environmental violations (61.8%). The analysis revealed a significant relationship between self-assessed environmental awareness and actual environmental behaviour, with students who reported higher awareness being more likely to engage in environmentally friendly actions. Gender and family recycling habits were significant predictors of environmental behaviour, with females and students from the families with recycling practices more likely to exhibit pro-environmental behaviour. These results indicate that the surveyed university students have developed environmental habits and awareness. Supporting youth is central to tackling environmental issues and promoting sustainable behaviour. In addition to educational efforts in Serbia, this requires comprehensive government and civil society initiatives.

BACKGROUND: Red meat production is a leading contributor to food-related greenhouse gas emissions. Decreasing red meat intake can mitigate climate change and lower risk of diet-related diseases. OBJECTIVE: The goal of this study is to evaluate university students perceptions of climate-friendly behaviors and to assess how these perceptions are associated with the frequency of red meat intake. DESIGN: Cross-sectional survey SETTING: A large, public California university and a large, public Michigan university PARTICIPANTS: Undergraduate students from a California university (n = 721) and a Michigan university (n = 568) MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Perceptions of climate-friendly behaviors and frequency of red meat intake STATISTICAL ANALYSIS: Differences in perceptions by student characteristics were compared using t-tests and one-way analysis of variance. Associations between perceptions of climate-friendly behaviors and red meat intake frequency were examined using generalized linear models, adjusted for sociodemographic covariates. RESULTS: Across both universities, students rated reducing meat intake as less effective than other climate change mitigation behaviors such as recycling and using less plastic. However, students who reported (1) making food and beverage choices that are good for the environment, (2) making food and beverage choices that reduce climate change impact, or (3) agreeing that eating less meat is an effective way to combat climate change reported 10% to 25% lower frequency of red meat intake for each point higher on the agreement scale. In contrast, making food and beverage choices motivated by health was not associated with frequency of red meat intake. CONCLUSIONS: Sustainability motivations and perceptions of meats climate impact were associated with lower frequency of red meat intake, despite the overall moderate rating of eating less meat as an effective climate change mitigator. This research lends support to behavioral interventions, public education campaigns, and policies aiming to reinforce sustainable dietary patterns in young adults.

Introduction: Indiscriminate consumption of energy, environmental pollution, and destruction of natural resources are among the most important issues related to pro-environmental behavior of people in society, and environmental values play an important role in shaping internal motivations of people about environmental issues. This study was conducted to determine the effects of environmental values on pro-environmental behavior and attitude of housewives in Rafsanjan, southeast area of Iran. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 200 housewives who were selected as random in health-care centers in Rafsanjan city. The data collection was done by a validated questionnaire regarding environmental values, attitude, and behavior. Pearson correlation, independent t-test, and ANOVA statistical tests were used to analyze data in SPSS.V22 software. Results: The mean score of environmental values was 3.37 ± 26.76 (89.2%), which was significant according to the level of education (p = 0.016). The mean score of attitude and environmental values was 6.88 ± 40.65 (81.3%) and 40.22 ± 5.66 (80.44%), respectively. Also, there was a significant relationship between the score of pro-environmental behaviors and the level of education (p = 0.012). Pearson's correlation showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between environmental values and attitudes (r = 0.239, p = 0.01) and pro-environmental behaviors (r = 0.146, p = 0.01). Conclusion: Based on the results, educated housewives believe more value for the environment, and have more appropriate pro-environmental behavior; thus, planning to sensitize society members, especially housewives, regarding the values of environmental protection through religious and cultural-based environmental education programs and increasing the level of education are recommended.

This meta-analysis looked at how well students' conceptual understanding, environmental attitudes, and pro-environmental conduct were improved by the Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) approach based on the literature (2017-2021). The research demonstrated the efficacy of SSI techniques such as argumentation, case-oriented approaches, and problem-based learning by analyzing a wide range of studies. The findings showed a strong positive influence on students' understanding of intricate environmental concerns and their propensity for sustainable conduct. While the study found that the SSI approach fosters critical thinking and involvement in several noteworthy ways, it also uncovered potential publication biases in certain aspects. Furthermore, to improve the robustness and application of SSI-based interventions in climate change education, the research stressed the necessity of context-specific strategies and interdisciplinary collaboration. Overall, the results highlight how the SSI approach can cultivate proactive, environmentally conscientious, and knowledgeable citizens who are ready to take on urgent global concerns.

The 21st century skills measured at Senior High School 9 Malang are communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity, while science literacy and environmental attitudes have never been measured before. This study aims to improve students' science literacy and environmental attitudes in a valid, practical, and effective way. The research and development model refers to Lee and Owens, which was implemented in Grade X Senior High School 9 Malang with a sample size of 34 people. The developed teaching materials were tested for validity, practicality, and effectiveness. In addition to expert validation tests, empirical validity tests were also carried out using Pearson product moment and reliability using Cronbach's alpha. The results obtained from the development of web-assisted digital teaching materials on the diversity of living things are valid, practical, and effective. Abstract Background The worldwide ecological crisis, including global climate change, is leading to increased awareness and attitudes towards environmental problems. To address these problems, studies of human attitudes are needed. This study is based on the 2-Major Environmental Values (2-MEV) model, which measures two components of environmental attitudes: Preservation and Utilization. The model has been applied to both, adolescents and adults. After decades of use, it is necessary to review the psychometric scale and update the wording. Developing short or even super-short scales to measure well-established constructs is necessary due to time constraints, compliance or fatigue due to language issues. Methods We applied an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to a dataset containing 20 items from the 2-MEV model to reduce the scale to 6 items, 3 per dimension using parallel analysis, scree plot examination and eigen-value greater than 0 as criteria. The scale was then applied to adults and the sample was split for EFA and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Multigroup confirmatory factor analysis (MGCFA) was then used to assess invariance across age and gender. Finally, regression and linear models were used to examine the effects of age and gender in both, adults and adolescents. Results The 2-MEV model was replicated in the EFA and CFA and the correlated two-factor model showed the best fit. The scale showed configural and metric invariance across age and gender, and scale invariance across gender. Gender and age effects were replicated in relation to previous studies. Discussion The brief scale showed good model indices and convergent validity. Implications The brief scale of the 2-MEV model can be applied in situations where environmental attitudes are important, but time constraints (internet surveys), compliance, or language problems may hinder the use of longer scales.

This study employs the Bourdieusian concept of habitus to explore how users' mental dispositions are associated with both their eco-conscious use of digital technologies and online behaviours. The digital-environmental habitus, reflecting such a combination of digital technology use and environmental attitudes, is explored through an online survey of 1188 participants. Factorial analyses are used to measure the environmental orientation of digital users, their digital expertise, and the digital-environmental habitus, encompassing both awareness and behavioural dimensions. We then use a path structural model to investigate the relationship among these constructs. The results indicate that pro-environmental dispositions are associated with digital pro-environmental awareness and behaviours. The existence of digital-specific environmental awareness also enhances pro-environmental digital behaviours, emphasising the importance of educating users about the environmental impact of digital tools. While digital expertise alone does not significantly predict digital-environmental awareness, it does moderate the digital-environmental habitus's behavioural aspect, promoting behaviours mutually beneficial for users and the environment. Further research is needed to understand how benefit-oriented and eco-centric environmentalism manifests in the digital arena. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Societal well‐being requires immediate global action from individuals and governments to vote on and enact policies that slow down, stop, and reverse the effects of climate change. To pressure governments and motivate policymakers to act, individuals can engage in environmental activism; however, even if individuals consider the environment important, they often do not follow through with action. Using a unique, large‐scale secondary data set from over 60,000 individuals in 48 countries, we examine the influence of social institutions on environmental activism among a nation's citizens. We find that religiosity inhibits environmental activism while education enables it. Confidence in the judiciary system also increases the likelihood that individuals act on their pro‐environmental attitudes while confidence in the government weakens this relationship. This study explores the relationship between vicarious experiences of nature, environmental behavioral beliefs, environmental attitudes and adolescents' environmental behavior. Based on a sample of 1476 adolescents from five high schools in Jiangsu Province, China, we proposed a model that was supported by structural equation modelling analysis. The model suggests that vicarious experiences of nature are positively associated with adolescents' environmental behavior. Environmental attitudes and environmental behavioral beliefs play partial mediator roles in the relationship of vicarious experiences of nature and environmental behavior. In addition to the significant direct impact of vicarious experiences of nature on environmental behavior, indirect effects are also achieved through behavioral beliefs, environmental attitudes and the serial multiple mediation effect of the two variables. These research results imply that we must pay attention to the important role of vicarious experiences of nature in cultivating adolescents' environmental behavior. The article investigates normative preferences for environmental protection over economic growth registered in 74 countries—based on the European Values Study and the World Value Survey (2017–2022). We employ multi-level logistic regression to demonstrate that Gross Domestic Product per capita moderates the effects of political orientation and household income, both of which tend to be stronger in wealthier countries. Only in wealthy societies are left-leaning and affluent individuals far more likely to prefer environmental protection. Not accounting for moderation leads to underestimating the propensity for political polarization over environmental questions. Hence, our study suggests that large-scale implementation of growth-impeding or wealth-sacrificing environmental policies could face insurmountable public opposition in wealthy societies. Furthermore, failing to account for the moderation by GDP per capita in cross-national studies of environmental attitudes may constitute a confounding factor by aggregating wealthier countries, where the effects of political orientation and household income prove substantial, with the poorer ones, where they appear negligible. Environmental or ecological knowledge means understanding the relationship between living organisms and their environment. The study aimed to analyze the knowledge, attitude, and behavioral components of environmental literacy of prospective teachers for quality education in District Lahore. The objective of this study was to assess the ecological literacy of future teachers in terms of the information, attitudes, and behaviors they possess. The methodology employed in this investigation was a quantitative one. A convenient selection sample of 325 graduate aspiring educators at Lahore’s 13 public universities enrolled in teacher education programs was chosen. This investigation made use of two data collection tools. The survey was broken up into two sections. Section A contains fundamental demographic information, while Section B is subdivided into three categories; Environmental Attitudes (EA), Environmental Behaviors (EB), and Environmental Knowledge (EK). This study found that prospective educators have a moderate level of ecological literacy. Male prospective teachers were more literate than their female counterparts, but there was no discernible gender gap in environmental literacy. Future educators do have favorable perspectives and actions toward the environment. No significant gender differences in prospective teachers’ attitudes or actions were discovered. Methods: We applied an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to a dataset containing 20 items from the 2-MEV model to reduce the scale to 6 items, 3 per dimension using parallel analysis, scree plot examination and eigen-value greater than 0 as criteria. The scale was then applied to adults and the sample was split for EFA and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Multigroup confirmatory factor analysis (MGCFA) was then used to assess invariance across age and gender. Finally, regression and linear models were used to examine the effects of age and gender in both, adults and adolescents. Results: The 2-MEV model was replicated in the EFA and CFA and the correlated two-factor model showed the best fit. The scale showed configural and metric invariance across age and gender, and scale invariance across gender. Gender and age effects were replicated in relation to previous studies. Discussion: The brief scale showed good model indices and convergent validity. Implications: The brief scale of the 2-MEV model can be applied in situations where environmental attitudes are important, but time constraints (internet surveys), compliance, or language problems may hinder the use of longer scales. This paper investigates changes in decision-makers' attitudes toward environmentally sustainable urban development in selected Norwegian urban settlements between 1991 and 2020. Changes in general environmental attitudes, problem perceptions and policy preferences concerning urban development are analyzed based on a survey conducted three decades apart in the same case areas among similar samples of decision-makers. The results show a general picture of some mainstreaming of environmental concern, environmentally friendly attitudes and positive attitudes toward measures supporting nature and climate friendly urban development. At the same time, there has been an increased divide between the political left and the political right in their attitudes toward environmental issues in general, as well as toward environmentally sustainable urban development. The results point to a widening gap between environmental attitudes and problem perceptions on the one hand, and the physical reality of escalating crises in the natural world. This meta-analysis evaluated how well learners’ conceptual understanding, environmental attitudes, and pro-environmental behavior were improved by the Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI)-based approach based on the literature (2017–2021). The research analyzed various studies on the efficacy of SSI-based techniques, such as argumentation, case-oriented approaches, and problem-based learning. The findings showed a strong positive influence on learners’ understanding of intricate environmental concerns and their propensity for sustainable conduct. While the study found that the SSI-based approach fosters critical thinking and involvement in several noteworthy ways, it also uncovered potential publication biases in certain aspects. Furthermore, the research stressed the necessity of context-specific strategies and interdisciplinary collaboration to improve the robustness and application of SSI-based interventions in climate change education. Purpose: The study aimed to examine the effect of green consumerism on positive and negative environmental attitude, ease of green product use, usefulness and green product recovery towards behavioral intention to use e-commerce in Karachi, Pakistan. Design/Methodology/Approach: In this study, the quantitative method was used to construct the research framework and conduct hypothesis testing. The suitable target population for this current study is users of e-commerce in Karachi, Pakistan. The study has collected 200 responses from the respondents. Convenience sampling as a technique has been utilized. PLS-SEM has been used as a data analysis technique. Findings: The study’s findings indicated that green consumerism effects the negative environmental attitude negatively and significantly however, it affects the environmental attitude positively and significantly, besides green product recovery insignificantly affects the behavioral intention to use e-commerce. Lastly, the perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness affects the behavioral intention to use e-commerce positively and significantly. Implications/Originality/Value: Managers should adopt green company policy to replace fossil fuels with rentable fuels in logistical operations and gain a competitive edge over competitors by developing a new product line in accordance with company environmental policies.

This study examines the public's perceptions of the ecological restoration of the Congost River over the past thirty years, focusing on the period between 2010 and 2022. We conducted a survey of 112 river users across five key zones identified through a pilot study for their high pedestrian density, aiming to analyse how different sociodemographic groups perceive the river's ecological state. A structured questionnaire was distributed along both sides of the river to engage a diverse range of individuals typically utilizing the river environment. The collected data were analysed using regression models and Mann-Whitney U tests to assess differences between groups, with Bonferroni adjustments applied to control for multiple comparisons.The results reveal a broad increase in appreciation for the river since 2010, alongside measurable ecological improvements supported by scientific data. Despite these positive changes, a majority of surveyed users remain sceptical about the river's recovery, with less pronounced scepticism among older respondents, those with higher education, and environmental volunteers. These groups' perceptions align more closely with empirical evidence, highlighting the influence of sociodemographic factors on environmental awareness.Individuals living closer to natural settings and frequent river visitors were found to be more attuned to changes in the river's environment, particularly in aesthetic and sensory aspects. The study underscores the persistence of a perceptual gap between scientific assessments of ecological health and public sentiment, emphasizing the complex relationship between community perceptions and objective environmental indicators. These insights underline the complex relationship between community perceptions and objective environmental indicators, reflecting a broader trend in environmental awareness and the importance of factual communication in ecological issues.

Information disclosure has become a ubiquitous component of public policy. The virtues of information disclosure partly rest on citizens acting on disclosed information. Through a survey experiment, this article evaluates citizens' responses to local environmental information from the Toxics Release Inventory, a major environmental information disclosure program in the U.S. The results suggest that individuals adjust their concern for self and family and sense of personal obligation to act based on new information relative to their prior knowledge. The information, however, has no impact on policy preferences and behavioral intentions. While citizens do not completely reject new information, the findings underscore the challenges of using information disclosure to motivate meaningful behavioral changes. The "environment–economy trade-off" is a key question in research on public opinion on environmental policies. While evidence from Western economies suggests that individuals are more supportive of environmental initiatives when the macroeconomic situation is favorable, little is known about how environmental policy preferences are shaped by economic factors in East and Southeast Asian countries. Using a survey dataset consisting of 12 countries based on the fourth wave of the Asian Barometer Survey (ABS), we investigate how environmental policy preferences are associated with multiple aspects of economic consideration. In a pooled multilevel analysis, we find that personal economic conditions and perceptions are more consistently associated with greater support for environmental initiatives than objective and subjective national economic conditions. However, an analysis of the heterogeneous effect shows that the effect of individual economic situations is only partially identifiable among lower-middle or upper-income countries in our sample, signaling the complexity of qualifying the relationship between economic considerations and environmental attitudes in a cross-country context. A relevant Religious Education needs to confront the life-threatening global issues humanity faces today. The present study investigates how Catholic Life Formation (CLF) through religious instruction may predict environmental attitudes among students in Cebu City, Philippines. This study analyzes how the following variables may influence Christian environmentalism: students' reception of CLF inputs, Catholic Social Teachings (CST) perceptions, and students' beliefs and environmental responses (STB) from a sample of 491 Grade 12 SH students of a private university in Cebu, Philippines. This descriptive quantitative survey used ordinal logistic regression to test our model. We adopted a two-step procedure to gather data: First, an open-ended interview was used to tease the themes and viewpoints of students. Second, incorporating the qualitative output from the interviews, a survey was conducted using a researcher-made self-report paired with the Christian Environmentalism Scale (CES) to describe student attitudes toward the environment. Over the past decade the partisan divide over environmental issues has widened significantly. Although attitudes toward climate change and other environmental policy issues have become highly polarized, it is possible that personal geography may moderate partisan attitudes. This study considers whether residing in coastal Virginia influences attitudes on environmental issues among Virginians. To test this question, we survey Virginia registered voters on a range of coastal environmental issues and consider whether place of residence has an effect on these attitudes when accounting for other factors including partisanship. We find a significant relationship between place of residence and a wide range of environmental issue attitudes, though the impact of partisanship is moderated in only limited cases. This research builds on the policy process literature concerning individual proximity to policy problems, place-attachment, and the relationship between partisanship and state environmental policy attitudes. We demonstrate how many important measures of belief about the environmental suffer from poor content validity and inadequate conceptual breadth (dimensionality). We used scholarship in environmental science and philosophy to propose a list of 13 environmental concepts that can be held as beliefs. After precisely articulating the concepts, we developed 85 trial survey items that emphasized content validity for each concept. The concepts' breadth and the items' content validity were aided by scrutiny from 17 knowledgeable critics. We administered the trial items to 449 residents of the United States and used item response theory to reduce the 85 trial items to smaller sets of items for use when survey brevity is required. The reduced sets offered good predictive ability for two environmental attitudes (R2 = 0.42 and 0.46) and indices of pro-environmental behavior (PEB, R2 = 0.23) and behavioral intention (R2 = 0.25). The predictive results were highly interpretable, owing to their robust content validity. For example, PEB was predicted by the degree to which one believes nature to be sacred, but not by the degree of one's non-anthropocentrism. Concepts with the greatest overall predictive ability were Sacredness and Hope. Belief in non-anthropocentrism had little predictive ability for all four response variables—a claim that previously could not have been made given the widespread poverty of content validity for items representing non-anthropocentrism in existing instruments. The approach described here is especially amenable to incremental improvement, as other researchers propose more informative survey items and potentially important concepts of environmental beliefs we overlooked. The New Ecological Paradigm (NEP) scale is the most commonly used environmental attitude measure around the world but is still plagued by its confusing dimensional structures. The same has existed in China for more than 10 years, and there are still significant problems with the improvement solutions available. From a psychometric perspective, the wording effect arising from mixed wording directions is considered the leading cause. Based on a Chinese national-level data set, our study examined this effect in the NEP scale using an emerging bi-factor modeling approach. The results indicate that all items can be loaded on a general NEP factor while negatively worded items need to be additionally loaded on a method factor. The absence of this method factor can lead to biased results. Overall, the optimal way to use the NEP scale is to retain all items and control the wording effect through a bi-factor model before further analysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study examined the impact of green advertising and eco-labels on the attitudes and environmental awareness of millennials purchasing eco-friendly products in shopping centers across Ecuador. The research utilized a quantitative, correlational, cross-sectional methodology with 430 millennials participating. A 20-item survey was administered face-to-face at shopping centers in Quito and Guayaquil, Ecuador. The validity of the research model was established through Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), employing SPSS 20 and AMOS 24 for statistical evaluations. Findings reveal that green advertising significantly shapes environmental attitudes (β: 0.245) and awareness (β: 0.110), as well as directly influences the purchasing behavior (β: 0.154) towards green products. While eco-labels do not exert a direct effect on purchasing behavior (β: 0.128), they significantly inform attitudes (β: 0.406) and ecological awareness (β: 0.277) of millennials who purchase organic products. This paper is among the pioneering research to delineate the correlation between green advertising elements and the purchasing patterns of green products among millennials in a developing nation. It concludes that marketing strategies centered on green advertising and eco-labels do affect millennials' attitudes and environmental consciousness, but only advertising has a direct impact on purchasing behaviors, contrary to eco-labels. With an increase in social awareness of environmental degradation and the need to conserve resources while reducing greenhouse gas emissions, consumers have become increasingly concerned about the environmental standards of the industries from which they purchase products. This has motivated industries to restructure their business model to one that is more environmentally sustainable. Research of consumers’ floral purchasing habits based on geographic regions found that these habits varied depending on the region where they lived. The main purpose of this study was to investigate US consumers’ perceptions and willingness to pay as they relate to retail floral providers’ environmentally sustainable practices based on the geographical region where the consumer lives within the United States. The results indicated differences in the way respondents answered questions based on the geographical region where they live. However, regardless of the US region where the respondents live, from the list of sustainable attributes covered in this study, respondents indicated the use of locally sourced flowers and composting of floral waste as the two sustainable attributes with the most perceived value to consumers. The findings of this study indicate that floral providers that have incorporated any type of sustainable attribute into their businesses should be promoting this to the public. Floral providers located in the West and Northeast regions of the United States should especially consider emphasizing sustainable attributes within their business because consumers in these regions indicated that they were most willing to pay premiums for sustainable practices. Additionally, floral providers in the West should consider sourcing and promoting the use of fair-trade materials to their customers.

The primary aim of the current study is to comprehend the development and evolution of environmental attitudes and to examine on-campus pro-environmental engagement among 16 undergraduates from two public Turkish universities through semi-structured interviews. Our qualitative analysis highlighted that several factors (e.g., the existence of environmentally aware role models in elementary education) are responsible for the formation of respondents’ environmental attitudes. The current paper also points out that litter pollution is a major problem on university campuses. To combat this problem, most respondents in the study reported taking proactive measures (e.g., disposing of the waste properly) to reduce littering and promote sustainable practices. In addition to fighting against littering, they actively take part in pro-environmental activities (e.g., tree plantation), prefer ecologically friendly mobility options (e.g., biking, using shuttles), financially support ecological organizations and attending their activities, and conserve energy. They also reported several factors for motivating (e.g., the willingness to protect the campus ecosystem) and hindering (e.g., lack of time) their on-campus pro-environmental engagement. Furthermore, our respondents pointed out that all stakeholders (e.g., rectorate, employees, students) regarding campus sustainability should take part (e.g., using effective measures for rewarding and penalizing) in amplifying the effectiveness of on-campus pro-environmental behaviors. With these findings, the current paper made important theoretical and practical contributions to campus sustainability.

Environmental sustainability is a relevant challenge for companies, and employees' perceptions of the advantages of ecological innovation, or eco-innovation, introduced by the company represent an important driver of organizational change adoption. This study examines if employees' environmental concerns, considered as a general attitude and a value orientation, are related to the perception of the advantages of eco-innovation. Building on climate literature, it also investigates if the climate of support for innovation moderates that relationship. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 130 Italian workers. A confirmatory factor analysis and a moderation model were tested. Results show a significant positive relationship between employees' environmental concern and perceived benefits of eco-innovation. Intriguingly, the climate of support for innovation negatively, instead of positively, moderated this relationship. Results suggest that in order to increase the perception of the benefits of the introduced eco-innovations, organizations should consider the whole set of innovations undertaken and address, especially to very concerned and value oriented employees, the unique environmental benefits of those innovations. Past research on the influence of crisis on environmental attitudes shows an ambiguous picture. On the one hand, there is evidence of a short-term negative effect of economic factors on environmental attitudes, which is supported by the theory of affluence and the theory of postmaterialism. On the other hand, national studies on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic show a positive influence in terms of an increase in collective values and thus also environmental attitudes. This paper aims to investigate if this proposed positive effect of the pandemic found in some countries can be supported, since this has not been analyzed systematically through a cross-national point of view. For this purpose, the Values in Crisis dataset is used, which was collected in 18 countries at the beginning of the pandemic. The results indicate that influences of COVID attitudes affect environmental concerns differently across countries. There is support for a positive impact on environmental concerns across nations, but this cannot be concluded overall. This paper focuses on the legal protection of refugee rights in a global context marked by forced migration and armed conflicts. Starting with an analysis of the evolution of the refugee concept and the development of relevant international regulations, the paper explores the legal status of refugees and the fundamental rights they possess under international law. The main rights examined include the right to asylum and non-refoulement, as well as the rights to life, liberty, and security, social and economic rights, rights of refugee children, and rights of refugee women. Additionally, the role of international agencies and non-governmental organizations in ensuring the legal protection of refugees is analyzed, along with the challenges and obstacles they face in practice. Finally, it proposes reforms and recommendations to enhance the legal protection of refugee rights with the aim of strengthening the effective application of international norms in this crucial area. This paper contributes to a comprehensive understanding of the legal protection of refugee rights and offers perspectives for a more efficient approach to this pivotal issue in the international community.
