- Abstract
As a seminal institutional innovation within the framework of Chinese-style modern competition theory, the question of whether the Fair Competition Review System (FCRS) can harness policy dividends and bolster enterprise competitiveness stands as a pivotal concern for accelerating the emergence of new productive forces and fostering a harmonious integration of an "effective government + efficient market." Leveraging data from China's listed manufacturing enterprises spanning the period from 2010 to 2020, this paper undertakes an empirical examination of the impact of competition policy frameworks on the competitiveness of manufacturing enterprises. The FCRS is treated as a quasi-natural experiment, and a difference-in-differences (DID) methodology is employed for analysis. The findings of this paper are as follows: (1) The implementation of the FCRS has been found to effectively augment the competitiveness of manufacturing enterprises by approximately 1.97 %, and this fundamental conclusion retains its validity after a battery of robustness tests; (2) The FCRS primarily influences enterprise competitiveness by lowering financing costs, enhancing technological innovation, and mitigating over-investment; (3) Heterogeneity analysis reveals that non-high-tech enterprises and those with lower financing constraints can attain more pronounced effects in promoting enterprise competitiveness through competition policies. Additionally, enterprise size and operational risks also exert an influence on the efficacy of competition policies in enhancing competitiveness; (4) Expanded analysis indicates that competition policies optimize the capital structure of enterprises through "debt reduction" and "capacity enhancement," thereby exploring the viability of analyzing the macro factors that impact enterprise "deleveraging" from the lens of competition policies. The research conclusions presented in this paper carry substantial guiding significance for the government in clarifying the preeminent role of market allocation of resources, promoting the establishment of a unified national market, and orchestrating a coherent fair competition system. Seed enterprises are crucial for ensuring national food security, the driving force behind the seed industry's advancement, and the core entity in constructing a modern seed industry system. At the micro and macro levels, agricultural seed enterprises face challenges and pressures in earning excess profits, enhancing their competitive edge, and resisting the incursion of multinational seed enterprises. This article selects panel data from 49 listed seed enterprises in China from 2015 to 2022 and uses methods such as global principal component analysis (GPCA) and Q-type cluster analysis to measure and evaluate the competitiveness of Chinese seed enterprises. Research has found that: (1) From 2015 to 2022, the overall competitiveness of listed Chinese agricultural seed enterprises has shown an upward trend. The competitiveness of agricultural seed enterprises can be further decomposed into operational capabilities, growth capabilities, production efficiency, technological innovation capabilities, etc. (2) The top ten agricultural seed enterprises in China have obvious advantages in operational and technological innovation capabilities, but their growth capabilities and production efficiency are insufficient. (3) Regarding the vertical comparison of the seed industry, the ranking of the competitiveness of Chinese listed agricultural seed enterprises from strong to weak is wheat seed enterprises > other seed enterprises > melon and vegetable seed enterprises > corn seed enterprises > rice seed enterprises. (4) Compared with international seed industry giants, there are various reasons why China's top agricultural seed enterprises have weaker competitiveness, specifically reflected in research and development investment, scale and market share, industrial layout, and other aspects. The findings of this research offer empirical evidence to bolster the competitiveness of seed enterprises and advance the seed industry, while also aiding in fortifying the nation's strategic oversight of the seed sector, bearing profound implications for safeguarding food security. The aim of the article is to identify the features of modern approaches to the motivation of personnel of international projects to ensure competitiveness and establish, using statistical and econometric methods, the quantitative influence of individual socioeconomic factors on the performance of these employees. The socioeconomic and political situation in Ukraine due to the full-scale military aggression on the part of the russian federation requires the top management of business entities to search for and successfully use statistical and econometric methods to determine and model dependencies between socioeconomic indicators, as well as to provide an opportunity to be involved in international projects in order to obtain additional competitive advantages. In the course of the study with the use of system-structural analysis and synthesis, the stages of personnel management of international projects are determined, as well as the characteristics and functions performed by individual subsystems of personnel management of international projects are identified. According to the results of the review of scientific literature, considerable attention of scientists to the problems of motivation of personnel of international projects to ensure the competitiveness of enterprise has been revealed. Approbation of theoretical studies was carried out based on the results of the activities of JSC «Interpipe NMPP», the main types of products of which are pipes of medium and small assortment. The analytical study revealed a decrease in sales, net profit and the number of employees, which is a consequence of the company’s work in an unstable external environment (COVID, military aggression of the russian federation against Ukraine). With the use of statistical and econometric methods, the degree of influence of individual factors on the efficiency of the personnel of the specified enterprise is determined; in particular, with the use of regression analysis, the author has built econometric models of the impact of personnel development in the form of professional training and advanced training and material incentives (remuneration) on the efficiency of the personnel of the specified enterprise and its involvement in participation in international projects. The author’s vision boils down to the fact that the use of such tools for motivating the personnel of international projects as wages, vocational training and advanced training provide an increase in labor productivity and, accordingly, the formation of competitive advantages of both employees and products, the enterprise, and the country as a whole. Prospect for further scientific research is the formation of a system of non-material factors for increasing labor productivity and personnel evaluation.

enterprise competitiveness ,factors of influence ,Business ,HF5001-6182 - Abstract
The article examines the theoretical aspects of the essence of the concept of «enterprise competitiveness». A company’s competitiveness depends on its internal state and external position. It determines a company’s ability to successfully compete and stand up to its main competitors in a given period of time, rather than being a permanent characteristic of a company. The problematics of competitiveness is the subject of research by many domestic and foreign scientists. The analysis carried out in the publication indicates a fairly wide composition of the concept of «enterprise competitiveness», which indicates the lack of a unified approach to the definition of this concept. For the theoretical generalization of the interpretations of the term «enterprise competitiveness» by various authors, a morphological decomposition was carried out in order to determine the most typical approaches to understanding this concept. A comparative analysis of the main methods for assessing competitiveness has been carried out and the advantages and disadvantages of each of them have been allocated. The obtained results allow us to conclude that the competitiveness of enterprise is an integral indicator that characterizes the advantages of the enterprise and the ability to develop in accordance with the strategy, having the ability to effectively use competitive advantages and increase its presence in the market, under conditions of conducting effective financial and economic activities while optimizing costs and improving product quality.

HIGH technology industries ,PER capita - Abstract
There are studies investigating a country's digital competitiveness; however, there is a lack of research examining digital competitiveness at the enterprise level. Hence, the current study aims at composing an enterprise digital competitiveness index (EDCI), which provides a possibility to assess the level of enterprise digital competitiveness and could be used by policymakers in the development of a strategy for transitioning to the digital economy. The CRITIC and COPRAS approaches are employed for the index construction. The criteria and subcriteria provided by Eurostat (2022) are used as antecedents of the EDCI. The results indicate that Nordic countries have reached the highest level of enterprise digital competitiveness. The mentioned countries' GDP per capita is in the top 5 among the EU countries, while the countries with the lowest GDP per capita show the lowest EDCI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Digital trade is an advanced form of digital transformation in the field of trade. China has made significant strides in the realm of digital trade, particularly in the domain of cross-border e-commerce. It is worthwhile to consider whether the dividend of digital trade benefits enterprises and fosters new competitive advantages at the micro level. This study constructs a framework for analyzing enterprise competitiveness under the background of digital trade. The digital trade development index is measured comprehensively across five dimensions with entropy weight method and TOPSIS, reflecting China's regional diversity. A two-way fixed effects (TWFE) model is utilized to verify the influence of digital trade on enterprise competitiveness based on panel data from Chinese A-share listed companies from 2011 to 2020. The study finds that digital trade has a positive effect on enterprise competitiveness, mainly strengthening the scale factor. Furthermore, the influence of digital trade on enterprises exhibits heterogeneous characteristics. Through moderation effect testing, it is found that the positive effect of digital trade is stronger for enterprises with high participation in digital trade and market competition, while it is weakened for enterprises with high proportion of overseas business. Enterprises in China that participate in and benefit from the digital trade are mainly from non-technology-intensive industries and located in regions with better digital innovation environments, where they are more likely to adapt to the development of digital trade. Both state-owned and non-state-owned enterprises are equally affected by digital trade. Through mechanism testing, the study finds that digital trade promotes enterprise competitiveness mainly through three channels: asset expansion, cost reduction, and efficiency improvement. This research analyzes the micro-level impact effects of digital trade development on individual entities, expanding research perspectives into this field. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CARBON offsetting ,CARBON emissions ,EMISSIONS trading ,MARKET power ,CARBON nanofibers ,ENVIRONMENTAL economics ,TECHNOLOGICAL innovations - Abstract
The impact of the carbon emission trading system (ETS) on firms' market competitiveness has been a controversial issue with no consistent theoretical conclusions. The aim of this paper is to explore the impact of the carbon emission trading system on firms' markups using the latest robust staggered difference-in-difference estimation method. The results show that China's carbon emission trading system greatly contributes to the enhancement of firms' market power, as evidenced by a series of robustness tests. In addition, the analysis of the impact mechanism shows that the carbon emission trading system enhances the market power of firms through the low-carbon innovation effect and the market integration effect, while the impact of the environmental cost effect is not obvious. Moreover, the heterogeneity analysis shows that the impact of China's carbon trading system policy on firms' market power is more pronounced, especially for those firms that are actively involved in low-carbon transformation and upgrading, have a stronger cost-shifting capacity, and are more efficient in production. This study provides empirical evidence on how environmental regulations affect firms' market power and offers theoretical guidance for the construction of China's carbon market. The article is devoted to studying innovative approaches to enterprise management in conditions of economic instability. The main goal of the research was to identify and analyse the impact of innovative strategies and management methods on the development of enterprises' innovative potential during economic crises. To achieve this goal, special and general academic research methods were used, in particular 'synthesis' and 'generalisation', which were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the implementation of innovative approaches in the activities of enterprises in the conditions of unpredictable changes in the business environment. As a result of the study, it was found that, in conditions of economic instability, innovations in enterprise management should focus on strengthening innovative potential and production and on the technical improvement of business processes for which the formation of innovative strategies is necessary. It has been found that enterprises that actively implement innovative management methods in their activities have more chances to ensure their sustainability in challenging business conditions and, with this transformation of management practices, create conditions for dynamic growth and development of their innovative potential. As a result of the study, it has been established that using innovative approaches contributes to improving the efficiency of enterprise resource management, improves interaction with counterparties, and stimulates the further implementation of innovative solutions in production. Based on the research, the understanding and principles of forming innovative management strategies for enterprises in conditions of economic instability have been improved. In addition, a set of recommendations has been formed for enterprises and organisations regarding strengthening the management system based on innovative solutions to ensure the stability and dynamic development of business processes in crisis trends. China has recently instituted the low-carbon city pilot (LCCP) policy in target areas to control its greenhouse gas emissions. Studies examining those environmental regulations have not focused on how they affect enterprise competitiveness, especially emphasizing the LCCP's dynamic effect. Here, we use the quasi-experimental opportunities of the LCCP policy along with a staggered difference-in-difference model to evaluate and explain the influences and transmission mechanisms of the LCCP policy on enterprise competitiveness. The empirical results show that (1) the construction of low-carbon cities significantly reduces, by 3.56%, the average enterprise competitiveness. Also, capital-intensive and small firms are more susceptible to adverse effects from the LCCP policy, but those effects weaken with time. (2) The LCCP policy affects enterprise competitiveness by increasing operating costs and reducing R&D. (3) However, those adverse effects can be suppressed when a region's degree of marketization is high and industry competition is fierce. Although our results show that the LCCP policy indeed brings more significant economic costs, those economic distortions can weaken through market-based reforms and improved market competition. The article notes that the positive reputation of enterprises in an unstable and unpredictable competitive environment becomes an important means of strengthening their market position, as it provides additional competitive advantages, facilitates access to business resources and protects their economic interests. It is emphasized that foreign companies successfully apply reputation management models. It is stated that most Ukrainian enterprises still use only a fragmented system of reputation risk management, which does not allow monitoring promptly them and taking timely measures to prevent or minimize them. The importance of reputational audit as a tool for managing the competitiveness of the enterprise is emphasized. The lack of uniform approaches to the interpretation of the concept of “reputational audit” is emphasized. The diversity of interpretation of the concept of “reputational audit” is unified and the scientific thesaurus is supplemented by the author's definition of this concept, formed by the functional approach, according to which “reputational audit” should be understood as the image study of the life of the reputation entity, aimed at assessing the reputational environment of its operation and identify key factors of reputational risk in order to timely adjust communication methods and make consensus decisions to improve relationships with stakeholders and successful business development. The types of reputational audit are considered and their distinctive features are briefly described. The etapology of reputation audit is offered and the characteristic of each of its stages is given: preparatory (organizational) stage; research stage and the final stage. It is proved that the introduction of the submitted proposals on the stage of reputational audit will contribute to the effective management of reputational risks and, accordingly, the competitiveness of enterprises.

The article aims at analyzing the current situation with the sustainable development of an enterprise, which is reached by increasing the credit resources efficiency. The correlation between sustainable development of an enterprise and its creditworthiness has been proved. The level of the Global Competitiveness Index of Ukrainian enterprises in the world economy has been studied. The line of business analyses of the current industrial environment has been carried out, thus sketching the general situation in Ukraine. Features hindering the sustainable development of business have been analyzed. Research has been provided as for the ratings of the most popular banks for business. The main advantages and disadvantages of loans to business persons have been suggested taking into account the average interest rates on such loans. It has been found out that the main factor for obtaining loans by business persons is their financial standing. Therefore, if a business person or company can repay their loans and interest on existing liabilities on time in full, this fact becomes a favorable and important factor for creditors. It has been found out that current loan rates are too high and thus become too expensive for many companies to attract additional funds for their business, the reason being the non-repayment of loans to banks. It is concluded that one of the central problems Ukraine is now facing is the mismanagement of sustainable development of enterprises, and problems in using credit resources suggested by banks are among the main factors here. It is determined that Ukrainian enterprises have all the chances to become the main carrier of technical progress and a source of growth of national competitiveness, but in order for it to start approaching the development level of the world's leading countries, significant financial resources are required. It has been proved that attention should mainly be focused on developing and improving strategic directions of sustainable development management related to attracting credit resources, namely suggesting the rules for and implementing the process of selecting and providing further state support for the best possible investment projects, which could improve the sustainable development of entrepreneurship and increase the efficiency of using credit resources in long-term business projects.
