Quantum entanglement detection is one of the fundamental tasks in quantum information science. Conventional methods for quantum state tomography exhibit limitations in scalability as the number of qubits increases, leading to exponential growth in the number of unknown parameters and required measurements. Consequently, the accuracy enhancement achieved by these methods is constrained. In response to this challenge, we developed a tailored convolutional neural network (CNN) model capable of effectively detecting entanglement in two-qubit quantum states, achieving an accuracy exceeding 97.5%. Notably, even in the presence of noise, this model retains its robust performance, displaying resilience against a tolerable level of noise contamination. Furthermore, the inherent generalization power of CNNs allows our model, which was initially trained on a specific spectrum of quantum states, to extend its applicability to wider states, positioning it as an outstanding tool for the further application of machine learning in the field of quantum computing, opening up new pathways for solving entanglement detection problems in quantum information. We study mathematical, physical and computational aspects of the stabilizer formalism arising in quantum information and quantum computation. The measurement process of Pauli observables with its algorithm is given. It is shown that to detect genuine entanglement we need a full set of stabilizer generators and the stabilizer witness is coarser than the GHZ (Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger) witness. We discuss stabilizer codes and construct a stabilizer code from a given linear code. We also discuss quantum error correction, error recovery criteria and syndrome extraction. The symplectic structure of the stabilizer formalism is established and it is shown that any stabilizer code is unitarily equivalent to a trivial code. The structure of graph codes as stabilizer codes is identified by obtaining the respective stabilizer generators. The distance of embeddable stabilizer codes in lattices is obtained. We discuss the Knill–Gottesman theorem, tableau representation and frame representation. The runtime of simulating stabilizer gates is obtained by applying stabilizer matrices. Furthermore, an algorithm for updating global phases is given. Resolution of quantum channels into stabilizer channels is shown. We discuss capacity achieving codes to obtain the capacity of the quantum erasure channel. We introduce a generalization of symmetric measurements to collections of unequinumerous positive, operator-valued measures (POVMs). This provides a uniform description of objects that are more general than symmetric, informationally complete POVMs and mutually unbiased bases, but at the same time less destructive and more noise tolerant. For informationally complete sets, we propose construction methods from orthonormal Hermitian operator bases. The correspondence between operator bases and measurements can be as high as one-to-four, with a one-to-one correspondence following only under additional assumptions. Importantly, it turns out that some of the symmetry properties, lost in the process of generalization, can be recovered without fixing the same number of elements for all POVMs. In particular, for a wide class of unequinumerous symmetric measurements that are conical 2-designs, we derive the index of coincidence, entropic uncertainty relations, and separability criteria for bipartite quantum states. We review methods that allow one to detect and characterize quantum correlations in many-body systems, with a special focus on approaches which are scalable. Namely, those applicable to systems with many degrees of freedom, without requiring a number of measurements or computational resources to analyze the data that scale exponentially with the system size. We begin with introducing the concepts of quantum entanglement, Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen steering, and Bell nonlocality in the bipartite scenario, to then present their multipartite generalization. We review recent progress on characterizing these quantum correlations from partial information on the system state, such as through data-driven methods or witnesses based on low-order moments of collective observables. We then review state-of-the-art experiments that demonstrate the preparation, manipulation and detection of highly-entangled many-body systems. For each platform (e.g. atoms, ions, photons, superconducting circuits) we illustrate the available toolbox for state preparation and measurement, emphasizing the challenges that each system poses. Entanglement witnesses (EWs) are one of the most effective methods to detect entanglement. It is known that nonlinear EW provide better entanglement detection than their linear counterparts, in that the former detect a strictly larger subset of entangled states than the latter. Whether linear or nonlinear, the method is measurement-device dependent, so that imperfect measurements may cause false certification of entanglement in a shared state. Measurement-device-independent EW provide an escape from such measurement dependence of the entanglement detection for linear EW. Here we present measurement-device-independent nonlinear EW for non-positive partial transpose entangled states as well as for bound entangled states with positive partial transpose. Although the witness considered herein does not detect a larger set of entangled states than other nonlinear EW, it is more efficient in that it never leads to a false detection corresponding to wrong measurements. The constructed measurement-device-independent nonlinear EW certify the entanglement of the same sets of entangled states as their device-dependent parents do, and therefore are better than the linear EW, device-independent or otherwise. Entanglement is a uniquely quantum resource giving rise to many quantum technologies. It is therefore important to detect and characterize entangled states, but this is known to be a challenging task, especially for multipartite mixed states. The correlation minor norm (CMN) was recently suggested as a bi-partite entanglement detector employing bounds on the quantum correlation matrix. In this paper, we explore generalizations of the CMN to multipartite systems based on matricizations of the correlation tensor. It is shown that the CMN is able to detect and differentiate classes of multipartite entangled states. We further analyze the correlations within the reduced density matrices and show their significance for entanglement detection. Finite tight frames are interesting in various topics including questions of quantum information. Each complex tight frame leads to a resolution of the identity in the Hilbert space. Symmetric informationally complete measurements are a special class of equiangular tight frames. Applications of such frames in quantum physics deserve more attention than they have obtained. We derive uncertainty relations for a quantum measurement assigned to an equiangular tight frame. Main results follow from estimation of the corresponding index of coincidence. Entanglement detection is one of the core tasks in quantum information processing. Based on a broad class of informationally complete symmetric measurements, a series of separability criteria are proposed for different bipartite quantum systems using Cauchy–Schwarz inequality and ρ−ρA⊗ρB, respectively. In addition, by comparing and analyzing the existing entanglement criteria and detailed examples, it is not difficult to prove that our proposed criteria are more powerful and comprehensive in entanglement detection.

We investigate the violation of nonlocal realism using various entangled continues- and hybrid-variable states under dichotomic observables. In particular, we consider two cases of dichotomic observables (1) described by a pseudospin operator and (2) given in terms of the Wigner representation of the state in phase space, parity measurement and displacement operation. We address the recently proposed operational measure of nonlocality which describes the probability of local-realism violation under randomly sampled observables. We show the usefulness and limitations of the probability of local-realism violation for the detection of nonlocality. A simple procedure to detect such nonlocal correlations for randomly chosen settings with efficiencies of up to 100% is proposed. The practical advantage of applying random measurements that considerably lowers the experimental requirements is mentioned.

The detection of entanglement is a basic problem in quantum information theory. Our goal in this work is to study the quantum separability problem with respect to a broad class of informationally completed symmetric measurements, including general symmetrical information complete POVM and mutually unbiased measurements. Furthermore, several separability criteria are presented in bipartite and many-body quantum systems, respectively. Although the realization of useful quantum computers poses significant challenges, swift progress in emerging quantum technologies is making this goal realistically approachable. In this context, one of the essential resources is quantum entanglement, which allows for quantum computations outperforming their classical counterparts. However, the task of entanglement detection is not always straightforward for several reasons. One of the main challenges is that standard methods rapidly become unfeasible when dealing with quantum states containing more than a few qubits. Typically, this is due to the fact that a vast number of measurements are needed on many copies of the state. Generally, it is not unusual to deal with a very limited number of state copies in experimental settings—in fact, this may be the case for many large quantum systems. In this article, an overview is provided of a probabilistic approach that enables high‐confidence genuine multipartite entanglement detection using an exceptionally low number of state copies. Additionally, a study is presented that shows that this protocol remains efficient also in the presence of noise, thus confirming the practicality of the method for near‐term quantum devices and its suitability for complex experimental settings. We devise a novel protocol to detect genuinely multipartite entangled states by harnessing quantum non-Markovian operations. We utilize a particular type of non-Markovianity known as the eternal non-Markovianity to construct a non-complete positive map to filter out the bi-separable states and detect genuine multipartite entanglement. We further propose a witness operator to detect genuinely multipartite entangled states experimentally based on this theory. From an operational point of view, several new entanglement detection criteria are proposed using quantum designs. These criteria are constructed by considering the correlations defined with quantum designs. Counter‐intuitively, the criteria with more settings are exactly equivalent to the corresponding ones with the minimal number of settings, namely the symmetric informationally complete positive operator‐valued measures (SIC POVMs). Fundamentally, this observation highlights the potentially unique role played by SIC POVMs in quantum information processing. Experimentally, this provides the minimal number of settings that one should choose for detecting entanglement. It is well known that one can extract all the information of an unknown quantum channel by means of quantum process tomography, such as standard quantum‐process tomography and ancilla‐assisted quantum process tomography (AAQPT). Furthermore, it is shown that entanglement is not necessary for AAQPT; there exist separable states that are also useful for it. Surprisingly, in this work we find that not all entangled states are useful for AAQPT; there also exist some entangled states that are useless. The realignment operation used in entanglement detection can be related to the question whether a bipartite state is useful for AAQPT. The relationship between them is derived and the process of extracting the complete information of an unknown channel by the realignment operation shown. Based on this relationship, examples of a two‐qutrit entangled state and a two‐qutrit bound entangled state are presented. Both of these two examples are entangled but they cannot be used for AAQPT. Efficient certification and quantification of high dimensional entanglement of composite systems are challenging both theoretically as well as experimentally. Here, we demonstrate how to measure the linear entropy, negativity and the Schmidt number of bipartite systems from the visibility of Mach–Zehnder interferometer using single copies of the quantum state. Our result shows that for any two qubit pure bipartite state, the interference visibility is a direct measure of entanglement. We also propose how to measure the mutual predictability experimentally from the intensity patterns of the interferometric set-up without having to resort to local measurements of mutually unbiased bases. Furthermore, we show that the entanglement witness operator can be measured in a interference setup and the phase shift is sensitive to the separable or entangled nature of the state. Our proposal bring out the power of Interferometric set-up in entanglement detection of pure and several mixed states which paves the way towards design of entanglement meter.

We experimentally investigate how initial entanglement between the system and environment can be detected in an open system by using some prior knowledge of the joint evolutions. The protocol we employed requires classical optimization on the results after performing measurements on the system state. Such an approach does not require a full 2-qubit QST, and works in scenarios where one has access to the system only. We demonstrate the protocol on both pure entangled states and mixed entangled states. The obtained results show the experimental accessibility and validity of the protocol. Compared with the previous methods, which also assume access only to the system, this protocol is less demanding in terms of measurement and state preparation. The experimental results also show that, using the knowledge of the interaction, we can fine-tune the protocol, thus showing the potential of the protocol for developing experimentally feasible and practical entanglement detection methods.

Genuine multipartite entanglement plays important roles in quantum information processing. The detection of genuine multipartite entanglement has been long time a challenging problem in the theory of quantum entanglement. We propose a criterion for detecting genuine tripartite entanglement of arbitrary dimensional tripartite states based on quantum Fisher information. Mutually unbiased bases (MUBs) provide a standard tool in the verification of quantum states, especially when harnessing a complete set for optimal quantum state tomography. In this work, we investigate the detection of entanglement via inequivalent sets of MUBs, with a particular focus on unextendible MUBs. These are bases for which an additional unbiased basis cannot be constructed and, consequently, are unsuitable for quantum state verification. Here, we show that unextendible MUBs, as well as other inequivalent sets in higher dimensions, can be more effective in the verification of entanglement. Furthermore, we provide an efficient and systematic method to search for inequivalent MUBs and show that such sets occur regularly within the Heisenberg–Weyl MUBs, as the dimension increases. Our findings are particularly useful for experimentalists since they demonstrate that a clever selection of MUBs allows for entanglement detection with fewer measurements.

We have developed a theory for accessing quantum coherences in mutually unbiased bases associated with generalized Pauli operators in multiphoton multimode linear optics networks (LONs). We show a way to construct complementary Pauli measurements in multiphoton LONs and establish a theory for evaluation of their photonic measurement statistics without dealing with the computational complexity of Boson samplings. This theory extends characterization of complementary properties in single-photon LONs to multiphoton LONs employing convex-roof extension. It allows us to detect quantum properties such as entanglement using complementary Pauli measurements, which reveals the physical significance of entanglement between modes in bipartite multiphoton LONs.

We investigate entanglement detection using mutually unbiased measurements and general symmetric informationally complete positive operator-valued measurements. Four separability criteria are obtained for bipartite and multipartite quantum systems with subsystems of different dimensions. Theoretical analysis and examples show that the presented separability criteria can be more effective than the corresponding criteria given in (Liu et al. Sci. We present an experimentally feasible and efficient method for detecting entangled states with measurements that extend naturally to a tomographically complete set. Our detection criterion for bipartite systems with equal dimensions is based on measurements from subsets of a quantum 2-design, e.g. mutually unbiased bases or symmetric informationally complete states, and has several advantages over standard entanglement witnesses. First, as more detectors in the measurement are applied, there is a higher chance of witnessing a larger set of entangled states, in such a way that the measurement setting converges to a complete setup for quantum state tomography. Secondly, our method is twice as effective as standard witnesses in the sense that both upper and lower bounds can be derived. Thirdly, the scheme can be readily applied to measurement-device-independent scenarios.

Quantum mechanics predicts the existence of correlations between composite systems that, although puzzling to our physical intuition, enable technologies not accessible in a classical world. Notwithstanding, there is still no efficient general method to theoretically quantify and experimentally detect entanglement of many qubits. Here we propose to detect entanglement by measuring the statistical response of a quantumsystem to an arbitrary nonlocal parametric evolution. We witness entanglement without relying on the tomographic reconstruction of the quantum state, or the realization of witness operators. The protocol requires two collective settings for any number of parties and is robust against noise and decoherence occurring after the implementation of the parametric transformation. To illustrate its user friendliness we demonstrate multipartite entanglement in different experiments with ions and photons by analyzing published data on fidelity visibilities and variances of collective observables. We present a quantum version of the generalized $$(h,\phi )$$ -entropies, introduced by Salicrú et al. for the study of classical probability distributions. We establish their basic properties and show that already known quantum entropies such as von Neumann, and quantum versions of Rényi, Tsallis, and unified entropies, constitute particular classes of the present general quantum Salicrú form. We exhibit that majorization plays a key role in explaining most of their common features. We give a characterization of the quantum $$(h,\phi )$$ -entropies under the action of quantum operations and study their properties for composite systems. Tethered mobile robots are ideal for electrically noisy environments and for time-consuming tasks that require robust data communication and uninterrupted power delivery. However, tethers may become entangled in cluttered environments, leading to immobilisation and consequent mission failure. This work addresses real-time monitoring of tethers to detect tether entanglement, perform disentanglement through tether following and localise within line of sight. Experimental hardware is proposed to implement the tether monitoring techniques. Experiments are performed for single and dual mobile robots to search a target environment and entanglement detection is shown to be successful using quantitative metrics such as mean localization error. We study the quantum separability problem by using general symmetric informationally complete measurements and present separability criteria for both $$d$$ -dimensional bipartite and multipartite systems. The criterion for bipartite quantum states is effective in detecting several well-known classes of quantum states. For isotropic states, it becomes both necessary and sufficient. Furthermore, our criteria can be experimentally implemented, and the criterion for two-qudit states requires less local measurements than the one based on mutually unbiased measurements. We present criteria to detect the depth of entanglement in macroscopic ensembles of spin- j particles using the variance and second moments of the collective spin components. The class of states detected goes beyond traditional spin-squeezed states by including Dicke states and other unpolarized states. The criteria derived are easy to evaluate numerically even for systems of very many particles and outperform past approaches, especially in practical situations where noise is present. We also derive analytic lower bounds based on the linearization of our criteria, which make it possible to define spin-squeezing parameters for Dicke states. In addition, we obtain spin squeezing parameters also from the condition derived in (Sørensen and Mølmer 2001 Phys. Rev. Lett. https://doi.org/10.1103/physrevlett.86.4431 86 https://doi.org/10.1103/physrevlett.86.4431 ). We also extend our results to systems with fluctuating number of particles.

A smooth function of the second moments of N continuous variables gives rise to an uncertainty relation if it is bounded from below. We present a method to systematically derive such bounds by generalizing an approach applied previously to a single continuous variable. New uncertainty relations are obtained for multi-partite systems that allow one to distinguish entangled from separable states. We also investigate the geometry of the “uncertainty region” in the N ( 2 N + 1 ) -dimensional space of moments. It is shown to be a convex set, and the points on its boundary are found to be in one-to-one correspondence with pure Gaussian states of minimal uncertainty. For a single degree of freedom, the boundary can be visualized as one sheet of a “Lorentz-invariant” hyperboloid in the three-dimensional space of second moments.

Based on the nature that nonlocal operation will change the fixed quantum statistical speed limited by the local operation, we study the performance of Ising-type nonlocal operation in multipartite entanglement detection and classification. We first present the formula of quantum statistical speed for general quantum state under the two-body nonlocal operation, and then investigate several important and experimentally relevant states, including N -qubit W state, Twin-Fock state, Q state and N -qubit GHZ state. The results show that the optimal nonlocal operation can be used to address some intractable problems encountered under the local operation, such as the classification of N -qubit W state and entanglement detection of Q state at the edges. Meanwhile, some defects are presented and discussed. Interestingly, the N -qubit GHZ state is found to be stable when it is probed by weaker nonlocal operation (γ ≤ N − 1 ) and it maybe helpful to the experimental research. In this review, we introduce some methods for detecting or measuring entanglement. Several nonlinear entanglement witnesses are presented. We derive a series of Bell inequalities whose maximally violations for any multipartite qubit states can be calculated by using our formulas. Both the nonlinear entanglement witnesses and the Bell inequalities can be operated experimentally. Thus they supply an effective way for detecting entanglement. We also introduce some experimental methods to measure the entanglement of formation, and the lower bound of the convex-roof extension of negativity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Quantum computation, in particular Grover's algorithm, has aroused a great deal of interest since it allows for a quadratic speed-up to be obtained in search procedures. Classical search procedures for an N element database require at most O( N) time complexity. Grover's algorithm is able to find a solution with high probability in $${O(\sqrt{N})}$$ time through an amplitude amplification scheme. In this work we draw elements from both classical and quantum computation to develop an alternative search proposal based on quantum entanglement detection schemes. In 2002, Horodecki and Ekert proposed an efficient method for direct detection of quantum entanglement. Our proposition to quantum search combines quantum entanglement detection alongside entanglement inducing operators. The quantum search algorithm relies on measuring a quantum superposition after having applied a unitary evolution. We deviate from the standard method by focusing on fine-tuning a unitary operator in order to infer the solution with certainty. Our proposal sacrifices space for speed and depends on the mathematical properties of linear positive maps Λ which have not been operationally characterized. Abstract: How can one prove that a given quantum state is entangled? In this paper we review different methods that have been proposed for entanglement detection. We first explain the basic elements of entanglement theory for two or more particles and then entanglement verification procedures such as Bell inequalities, entanglement witnesses, the determination of nonlinear properties of a quantum state via measurements on several copies, and spin squeezing inequalities. An emphasis is given to the theory and application of entanglement witnesses. We also discuss several experiments, where some of the presented methods have been implemented. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: We provide bounds on correlations of locally orthogonal observables in two-qubit separable states. These bounds strengthen the Bell inequality and improve upon some alternative entanglement criteria. They provide necessary and sufficient criteria for separability of pure states and test the correlations allowed by local hidden variable models against those allowed by separable quantum states.
