However, the causal relationship between personality traits and respiratory diseases remains largely unknown. This study aimed to investigate the link between genetically predicted emotional instability and eight respiratory conditions using a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis.Methods: In a GWAS dataset from the UK Biobank, SNPs linked to emotional instability were discovered among 204,412 participants of European descent. Genetic information for lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis, pneumonia, and bronchiectasis was obtained from the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI). While data for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary embolism, chronic cough, and asthma was collected from the UK BioBank. An MR study was carried out to investigate how specific single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) impact the likelihood of developing the eight respiratory conditions listed. Our main approach for the initial screening was the utilization of inverse variance weighting (IVW). Multiplicity was assessed using the MR-Egger regression test, while heterogeneity was evaluated with Cochran’s Q test. To ensure the reliability of the findings, a leave-one-out analysis was conducted.Results: IVW found evidence that emotional instability had a significant causal effect on the increased risk of COPD (OR = 1.009; 95% CI = 1.001– 1.017; P = 0.022), pneumonia (OR = 1.648; 95% CI = 1.036– 2.622; P = 0.035), chronic cough (OR = 1.077; 95% CI = 1.013– 1.145; P = 0.017) and increased risk of asthma (OR = 1.073; 95% CI = 1.026– 1.123; P = 0.002) had a significant causal relationship. This association remained strong in the case of potential confounders, including smoking. Additionally, the instrumental variable weighted method in this study did not find any indication of a causal link between emotional instability and lung cancer, pulmonary embolism, pulmonary fibrosis, and bronchiectasis (all P > 0.05).Conclusion: The research discovered a link between emotional instability and a higher likelihood of developing COPD, pneumonia, chronic cough, and asthma. Introduction: Personality is a rather neglected aspect in bed rest studies. The aim of the study was to clarify which specific personality pattern may predict the performance of bed rest study participants. Materials and methods: Personality traits were correlated with participants' performance rated by the team running the study. The sample consisted of N = 68 participants who took part in one of four different studies. A broad set of personality traits correlated with different performance aspects (stability, perseverance, modesty, flexibility, compliance, likability, social adaptation). Results: Emotional instability showed the highest correlations. Furthermore, participants with low aggressiveness, low empathy and low achievement motivation were rated as more suitable for a study. Additionally, participants with a high extraversion showed a higher social adaptation. Discussion: The results contribute to the knowledge of the impact of personality in extremely demanding environments and provide first evidence for the identification of an ideal personality profile predicting performance of bed rest study participants. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the potential associations between physical activity, sedentary behavior, and the basal metabolic rate (BMR) with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), major depressive disorder (MDD), and emotional instability (EI) using bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR). Additionally, it sought to identify key molecular mechanisms underlying emotional instability through a comprehensive bioinformatic analysis. Methods: MR analyses utilizing genome-wide association study (GWAS) data were conducted to estimate the effects of physical activity, sedentary behavior, and the BMR on PTSD, MDD, and EI. Sensitivity analyses were performed to assess the robustness of the findings. Concurrently, a bioinformatic analysis was executed on gene expression datasets (GSE53987 and GSE21138) derived from emotionally unstable patients. This analysis encompassed the differential gene expression analysis to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs), followed by an functional enrichment analysis to uncover key molecular pathways associated with EI. Results: The MR analysis revealed that increased physical activity may have a protective effect against PTSD, albeit with inconsistent effects on MDD and EI. Sedentary behavior and the BMR demonstrated minimal associations with PTSD, MDD, or EI. The bioinformatic analysis identified 114 DEGs associated with EI, with YWHAB, SRRM2, MST1, HDAC10, and HSPA1A highlighted as significant genes. The functional enrichment analysis of these DEGs unveiled key pathways potentially involved in the molecular pathology of emotional instability. Conclusions: Physical activity appears to protect against PTSD, whereas its effects on MDD and EI are less definitive. The bioinformatic findings offer a deeper molecular understanding of EI, pinpointing specific genes and pathways that may serve as potential therapeutic targets. Purpose - The intricacy of the decision-making process has increased due to the inherent uncertainty surrounding investments. Therefore, the study aims to investigate the impact of individuals' Social Value Orientation (SVO), Emotional Instability (EI), and demographic factors on their Financial Risk Tolerance (FRT) levels. Additionally, it aims to investigate whether SVO and EI influence the adoption of socially responsible investment (SRI) funds and the diverse investment choices made by individuals. Methodology - A convenient sampling technique was employed to gather data from 355 Indian retail investors through a structured questionnaire. Subsequently, the collected data was then examined and interpreted using binary logistic regression and chi-square tests facilitated by the SPSS 26 software. Findings - The results emphasize that SVO, EI, Age, Marital status and Gender are significant predictors of investors' FRT. Furthermore, our study unveils that investors with a pro-social mindset are more inclined to invest in SRI funds compared to those who prioritize themselves. Originality – The current study contributes to the existing literature by introducing a novel and unexplored variable, i.e., SVO, for academic consideration in risk tolerance. Moreover, this study imparts a profound understanding of behavioural finance by illuminating the influence of investors' values and emotions on their inclination to embrace risk. Social Implication - By examining investors' preferences and interests in SRI, we gain valuable insight into the growing importance of sustainable funds. This aligns harmoniously with the overarching pursuit of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as these conscientious investment funds scrutinize and eliminate companies that harm society.

Background: Depressive disorder is a psychiatric disorder that falls under the category of mood disorders. Based on the Guidelines for the Classification and Diagnosis of Mental Disorders III (PPDGJ III), the main criteria for depressive disorder are having a depressive affective, loss of interest and excitement and reduced energy. Emotional unstable personality disorder is one of the four cluster B disorders, characterized by impulsivity and emotional instability. Purpose: This study aims to analyze the case of a woman who experiences comorbidities between depressive disorder and borderline type emotional unstable personality disorder. Methods: This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach. The study analyzed the case of a 21-year-old woman who experienced self-injurious behavior and depressive symptoms due to emotional trauma, including parental divorce and lack of family attention Results: The patient showed symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) since adolescence, such as emotional instability, impulsive behavior, and difficulty maintaining relationships, and also experienced depressive and psychotic symptoms in the form of suicide whispers. Once the diagnosis is confirmed through physical and psychiatric examinations, treatment with a combination of pharmacotherapy (Risperidone and Fluoxetine) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) results in improved emotional stability and impulse control in the patient. Conclusion: Patients with borderline type emotional unstable personality disorder often experience comorbidity in the form of depressive disorders characterized by emotional instability, impulsivity, depressive affinity, and lack of energy. Depressive disorders in them tend to be chronic, can be accompanied by psychotic symptoms, and increase the risk of suicide. Aim Methods Results Conclusions Deficits in mentalization have been described in several mental disorders, but information is still scarce and ambiguous about the types of mentalization errors in each disorder and their specificity and severity in borderline personality disorder (BPD). Due to the high comorbidity between this disorder and axis I disorders, the aim of this work is to study differences in mentalization responses in BPD considering the different comorbidity profiles with other disorders.A total of 141 BPD patients were evaluated using The Mini‐International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI), to identify comorbid axis I disorders. Mentalizing ability was assessed by the Movie for the Assessment of Social Cognition (MASC). Statistical associations were analysed into the different variables.Patients with comorbid BPD and anorexia nervosa (AN), suicidal behaviour disorder or post‐traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) respectively presented higher overmentalization, undermentalization and absence of mentalization errors, compared with patients with BPD without comorbidity.Results show that BPD comorbidity with AN, suicidal behaviour disorder and PTSD affect to the types and severity of mentalizing deficits observed in these patients. This study highlights the importance of the assessment and treatment of axis I comorbid disorders in borderline personality disorder, with the objective of shaping personalized treatment for every patient. Background: While evidence shows that people with early psychosis are flexible in using different emotion regulation (ER) strategies to manage the varying contextual demands, no studies have examined the effectiveness of such regulatory flexibility in this population. We addressed this issue by investigating whether and how ER flexibility relate to different dynamic aspects (variability, instability, inertia, and recovery) of negative affect (NA) in a combined early psychosis sample, consisting of both individuals at high clinical risk for psychosis and those diagnosed with first-episode psychosis. Methods: Participants were 148 individuals from the INTERACT project, a multi-center randomized controlled trial on the efficacy of acceptance and commitment therapy in early psychosis. We utilized data from the baseline assessment, during which all participants completed six days of experience sampling assessment of momentary NA, as well as end-of-day assessments of ER strategy use. Results: Multilevel models of within-person associations showed that greater ER flexibility was associated with more stable NA, and quicker recovery of NA from stressors during the day. Linear regression analyses of between-person associations showed that people who had more variable and unstable NA reported greater ER flexibility generally. No evidence was found for associations with NA inertia. Conclusions: The current study identified unique within-person and between-person links between ER flexibility and dynamics of NA in early psychosis. These findings further provide evidence for ER flexibility in early psychosis, emphasizing the adaptive nature of regulatory flexibility in relation to reduced instability in NA and faster recovery from NA in everyday life. The study delved into the impact of Imago Relationship Therapy on spousal emotional instability using Ancova for analysis. The study adopted a pretest-posttest, control group quasi-experimental design with a 2x2x3 factorial matrix. Two primary schools were randomly selected, and convenient sampling techniques were used to select 60 participants in the selected schools 30 participants were meant for the treatment group and 30 for the control group. Results indicated significant effects: The therapy showcased a substantial reduction in emotional instability (F = 594.276, p smaller than 0.001), with the overall model explaining 95.2 percent of the variance. Gender (F = 1.859, p = 0.001) and self-esteem (F = 3.755, p = 0.001). An interaction between gender and self-esteem, as well as the three-way interaction (GROUP Gender Self-esteem), were statistically significant, emphasizing the interconnectedness of these factors in understanding emotional instability. It was recommended that the school counselors should assist teachers in overcoming their mindfulness. Background: Evaluating emotional experiences in the life of people with Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorder (SSD) is fundamental for developing interventions aimed at promoting well‐being in specific times and contexts. However, little is known about emotional variability in this population. In DiAPAson project, we evaluated between‐ and within‐person differences in emotional intensity, variability, and instability between people with SSD and healthy controls, and the association with psychiatric severity and levels of functioning. Methods: 102 individuals diagnosed with SSD (57 residential patients, 46 outpatients) and 112 healthy controls were thoroughly evaluated. Daily emotions were prospectively assessed with Experience Sampling Method eight times a day for a week. Statistical analyses included ANOVA, correlations, and generalized linear models. Results: Participants with SSD, and especially residential patients, had a higher intensity of negative emotions when compared to controls. Moreover, all people with SSD reported a greater between‐person‐variability of both positive and negative emotions and greater intra‐variability of negative emotions than healthy controls. In addition, the emotion variability in people with SSD does not follow a linear or quadratic trend but is more "chaotic" if compared to controls. Conclusions: Adequate assessments of positive and negative emotional experiences and their time course in people with SSD can assist mental health professionals with well‐being assessment, implementing targeted interventions through the identification of patterns, triggers, and potential predictors of emotional states. Marital satisfaction is an essential aspect of family life. Individuals who experience satisfaction in their marriage tend to exhibit positive emotions leading to happiness, which is associated with their subjective well-being encompassing their overall life satisfaction. Every individual naturally desires subjective well-being in their lives, including adolescents who marry due to unplanned pregnancies. Therefore, the aim of this research is to investigate the relationship between marital satisfaction and subjective well-being among adolescents who married because of unplanned pregnancies. The research methodology employed in this study is quantitative, with a total sampling technique used to select 64 adolescents who married due to unplanned pregnancies as participants. The data analysis method utilized in this study is the Pearson product-moment correlation. The analysis results reveal a correlation of r = -0.356 with a significance level of 0.004 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between marital satisfaction and subjective well-being. The positive direction of this relationship suggests that lower marital satisfaction corresponds to lower subjective well-being, and vice versa

The self-induced dermatoses represent even about 2% of dermatology patient visits. Dermatological factitious disorder includes actions which lead to the damage of the body tissues without any suicidal intentions. It occurs rarely; thus, it can be misdiagnosed as a more common disease. It most often coexists with an emotionally unstable and immature personality. Old home living has become prevalent in Pakistan, but it differs significantly from living at home. This narrative inquiry uses in-depth interviews to explore the psychological impact on women residing in old age homes. Using an interpretivist paradigm, five women aged 60-75 from two Lahore old age homes were interviewed. The recurrent themes were "Health-related concerns," "Adverse life events," "Challenges," and "Coping mechanisms." The women, facing financial insecurity and emotional instability, had chosen to live in these homes. Many experienced troubled marriages, neglect from children, and family rejection, leading to depression, anxiety, and medical issues like high blood pressure and diabetes. Their coping mechanisms varied, with some leading to negative outcomes like denial and self-blaming. Isolation and abandonment resulted in hopelessness, bitterness, and negativity. The purpose of the study was to determine the conditions for the formation of victimisation and identify the features of the development of sexual perversions of an individual. The theoretical and methodological basis of the study was based on a qualitative combination of methods of structural and functional analysis of the causes of sexual pathologies in the human psyche and an analytical examination of the problem of restoring the mental state of people affected by sexual violence. The data obtained also identify the specific features of countering the consequences of sexual offences, in particular, approaches to supporting victims at the legal, psychological, medical, and socio-economic levels. In the course of the study, a psychological experiment was conducted, which allowed substantiating the relationship between a person’s victimisation and their ability to sociopsychological adaptation in society after a trauma. Aim: The present study aimed to test the cognitive functional model of patients with bipolar disorder regarding childhood traumatic experiences based on the mediating role of emotional instability and expressed emotion. Method: The research method is descriptive-correlational modeling of structural equations. The sample population included all patients with bipolar disorder who were admitted to Yahyanejad hospital in Babol, Iran during 17 months (from March/April 2010 until mid-September 2020). In total, 379 subjects were selected by convenience sampling. Data collection tools were The Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ) by Bernstein and Fink (1998), the Emotional Instability Scale by Oliver and Simpson (2004), the Expressed Emotion Level by Hall & et al. (2007), and the Cognitive Abilities Questionnaire by Nejati (2013). Data analysis was performed by structural equation modeling (SEM) in SPSS version 24 and Lisrel version 8.8. Research on the understanding and especially on the treatment of borderline personality disorder (borderline PD) has made considerable progress in recent years, so that evidence-based German treatment guidelines have now been produced for the first time. This article highlights the development as well as the main content priorities and recommendations of the guidelines: first, the recommendations on the diagnostics are presented and in this context the upcoming changes to the International Classification of Diseases 11th reversion (ICD-11) are also explained. Subsequently, the most important recommendations on guideline-compliant psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy and treatment settings are presented. Finally, the recommendations concerning relatives (or other significant persons for people with borderline PD) as well as parenthood and borderline PD are presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Background The emotional regulation process plays a pivotal role in daily-life functioning, modulating goal-directed and adaptive behavior. Conversely, altering this cognitive function can disrupt self-regulation and bring emotional dysregulation. Emotional instability could represent a core characteristic of BPD, also modulating the BPD symptom's onset. This systematic review aims to summarize the existing literature reporting the role of emotional instability in BPD to better define the role of the impairment of the emotional processes in the onset of the cognitive and behavioral symptoms of this complex mental disorder. Methods MEDLINE, Scopus and Web of Science were independently searched for relevant studies. Eligible studies had to be identifiable through database searching, published and accessible. This systematic review was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines. The search period was from 2012 to 14 September 2022. Results A pool of 120 studies was identified, out of which 11 met the selection criteria and were included. Overall, the studies confirm a relationship between emotional instability and borderline personality disorder. Conclusions The evidences retrieved seem to point out the role of the emotional impairment not only in worsening of the disorder, but could also be one of the risk factors for its onset.

There is growing evidence that alcohol abuse among adolescents is a major public health concern. Understanding the risk factors associated with adolescent alcohol misuse is crucial for the development of prevention programs. Our study aimed to examine whether general attitudes toward health risk behaviors (i.e., predisposition to engage in risky behaviors) moderate the association between emotional instability (neuroticism as a stable personality factor) and adolescent alcohol abuse. A population-based sample of 688 Romanian adolescents completed several standardized instruments, including a measure of the current risk of alcohol abuse, the Neuroticism scale from the Big Five Inventory, and a subscale (Health/Safety) from the Risk Behaviors Scale [71]. The risk of alcohol abuse was positively associated with both emotional instability (n = 673; r = 0.345; p < 0.001) and predisposition to engage in risky behaviors (n = 688; r = 0.424; p < 0.001). A positive relationship was also found between emotional instability and the predisposition to engage in risky behaviors (n = 673; r = 0.129; p = 0.001). Hierarchical linear multiple regression analysis provided support for the moderation relationship. In summary, the predisposition to engage in risky behaviors may act as an amplifying factor by increasing the risk associated with emotional instability. Some practical implications for preventive interventions are discussed.

According to a recent survey, about 6% of people worldwide have an Internet addiction. Internet addiction is a problem that can swiftly impair a person's capacity to carry out daily tasks when they feel they are unable to do so because they are unable to unplug from the Internet. Numerous issues related to this kind of Internet use have an effect on the person's quality of life and psychological health. The main objective of the study was to assess the correlation between Internet Addiction and Emotional Maturity among Young Adults. A correlational study was conducted on individuals belonging to the age group of 20-35 (young adults). A total of 100 individuals participated in the study using a structured questionnaire. The method used for collecting samples is an accidental sampling method. Tools used include “Internet Addiction Test (IAT)” developed by Young (1998) and “Emotional Maturity Scale [E.M.S]” designed by Singh and Bhargava. The coefficient correlation suggests a positive relationship between Internet Addiction and Emotional Maturity. The regression analysis concluded that Internet Addiction has a significant effect on the Emotional Maturity of young adults. The study as a whole is consistent with the observation that those who use the internet more frequently are more likely to have less emotional maturity. Background: The modification of the female brain during matrescence has focused on neurobiological research, but it remains open to the analysis of psychological consequences that transcend postpartum depression or anxiety. Our objectives have consisted of: 1. Investigate whether all mothers also perceive emotional instability, loss of memory and identity, and if this depends on external factors. 2. Analyze if there are differences between the first motherhood and the following ones. 3. Check if the Covid19 pandemic caused greater psychological discomfort., Method: Surveys with assessment of risk factors and psychological distress among women (n=129) from the Health Area of Albacete (Spain), grouped into: Mothers before the pandemic. First-time mothers in a pandemic. Experienced mothers who became mothers again during the pandemic. New mothers after the pandemic. And experienced mothers who became mothers again after the pandemic., Statistical Methods: Kruskal-Wallis, Dunn's post hoc test and coefficient of determination R2., Results: The 5 groups have shown psychological affectation. Those of first-time mothers are significantly different from those of experienced mothers (H=33.25, p<0.0001). The coefficient of determination R2 between risk factors and general psychological distress was 0.32, and that due to memory loss 0.1., Conclusions: 1st. Background: Borderline personality disorder is a severe mental health condition characterised by a pattern of emotional instability, interpersonal dysfunction, disturbed self-image and impulsive behaviour, including self-harm. Symptoms of borderline personality disorder typically emerge during adolescence. Although there is compelling evidence in support of early intervention for borderline personality disorder, current evidence-based interventions are resource intensive, with the result that few young people access timely treatment. Therefore, there is an urgent need for accessible interventions to facilitate early intervention for adolescents with borderline personality disorder symptoms. Objectives: The first objective was to adapt a brief psychological treatment for adolescent borderline personality disorder that had previously been delivered within secondary mental health services for co-delivery within schools and colleges. The second objective was to assess the feasibility of evaluating the clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of this intervention in a future randomised controlled trial. Design: We first conducted a rapid evidence synthesis of barriers to and facilitators of the implementation of indicated mental health interventions for adolescents within educational settings and piloted the prototype intervention with three schools/colleges. Based on the findings of the evidence synthesis and pilot, we refined the intervention and study procedures in preparation for a feasibility randomised controlled trial. The feasibility randomised controlled trial involved 12 schools and colleges, whose pastoral staff members received training to deliver the intervention alongside a mental health practitioner. Participants were randomised in a 1 : 1 ratio to receive either the BEST (Brief Education Supported Treatment) intervention plus treatment as usual or treatment as usual alone. Participants were assessed pre randomisation (baseline) and at 12 and 24 weeks post randomisation. Mixed-methods process data were collected to understand how the intervention was implemented, to assess acceptability and to monitor contamination of the control arm. Participants: Young people eligible to participate were aged 13–18 years, reported symptoms of borderline personality disorder above an established threshold and had a history of repeated self-harm. Results: The intervention was refined based on findings of the rapid evidence synthesis, which included 50 studies, feedback from staff participants in the pilot and analysis of session recordings. In the feasibility randomised controlled trial, we randomised 32 participants prior to the premature closure of recruitment. The rate of recruitment was slower than anticipated but would probably have narrowly surpassed our progression criterion over the full recruitment window. Participant retention was high (89.5% at 12 weeks and 73.7% at 24 weeks) and the performance of the proposed outcome measures was satisfactory. We did not find any evidence that participants allocated to the treatment-as-usual arm received the BEST intervention or its components. Fidelity of intervention delivery was high (93.5% of recordings rated as adherent) and the intervention was viewed as offering benefits for individual participants, practitioners involved in co-delivery and the wider school/college. Limitations: The feasibility randomised controlled trial was disrupted by the closure of schools and colleges in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This reduced the window for participant recruitment and limited the data that could be collected. Conclusions: The refined BEST intervention was able to be delivered successfully within schools and colleges and was found to be acceptable to staff and young people. The findings provide support for continuing this programme of research and would inform the design of a future trial. Trial registration: This trial is registered as ISRCTN16862589. This study aimed to compare impulsivity, emotional instability, decision-making, and highrisk behaviors in individuals with bipolar disorder (BD) and borderline personality disorder (BPD). The present study was a comparative causal study. The statistical population of the present study includes patients with BD and BPD in psychiatric centers and psychiatric hospitals in Tabriz in 2020. The sample consisted of 2 groups of 50 people, each of which was selected based on a semi-structured clinical interview. Research instruments included the Bart impulsivity questionnaire, Eisenhower personality questionnaire, Iowa gambling test, and Mohammadi high-risk behaviors questionnaire. Multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was used to analyze the hypotheses. The results showed that compared to BPD, participants with BD have significantly higher mean scores in impulsivities and high-risk decision-making (p < .05). On the contrary, the results also indicated that the mean scores of emotional instability and high-risk behaviors were higher in BPD (p < .05). Findings of the present study point to the fact that individuals with BD and BPD have unique problems in terms of impulsivity, high-risk decision-making, emotional instability, and high-risk behaviors. Introduction Eating disorders and borderline personality disorder can coexist with high frequency in people with alexithymia. At the same time, it has been described that alexithymia can be present in patients suffering from depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorders, PTSD and eating disorders, among others. In this sense, it has been described that alexithymia could help maintain eating disorder. Objectives To review the existing literature on the relationship between alexithymia, emotional instability and a family history of autism spectrum traits with the development of eating disorders. To expose, through the clinical case of a patient with eating disorders, the diagnostic complexity and evolution after the beginning of a comprehensive and multidisciplinary therapeutic plan with different mental health devices. Methods To review the personal and family psychopathological aspects and the clinical evolution of a patient with a diagnosis of restrictive subtype anorexia nervosa since its inclusion in a therapeutic program. Results This is a longitudinal study through personal biographical reconstruction and family history and subsequent follow-up of a clinical case based on the implementation of an individualized therapeutic program and the results obtained. Conclusions Currently there is evidence in the literature that finds a high correlation between alexithymia and eating disorders. However, these findings are believed to be influenced by other comorbid symptoms such as depression or anxiety. Furthermore, the diagnosis of ASD in people with AN is a complex process that requires a thorough clinical evaluation over time. Background: Epilepsy is a common disorder with co-morbidities. It affects physical, emotional, psychological, social, financial and cognitive functioning of the patients. Identification and management of psychosocial problems are important in holistic treatment of epilepsy. There is paucity of literature in psychosocial functioning in epilepsy. Aim: To find out the occurrence of psychosocial problems in patients with epilepsy. Materials and methods: One hundred consecutive patients attending the OPD of Internal Medicine were evaluated with a questionnaire subserving seven domains of psychosocial functioning with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: The occurrence of depression, emotional instability, inter personal relationship and vocational difficulties were higher in patients with epilepsy. Background & Aims: Today, people suffer from various psychological pressures in their jobs, and these pressures have somehow been able to cause serious damage to their performance (2). In this regard, Salehi Dashti and Saedi (1399) found that job stress, social pressure and time pressure on independent auditors reduce their job performance. Increasing job stress, social pressure and time pressure on the independent auditor can lead to behavioral responses and thus reduce the quality of work and increase the costs of the audit firm (5). Given the importance of stress on employee performance, researchers are constantly seeking to discover issues and variables that are effective and related to stress. In this regard, it seems that one of the most important and influential issues in stress are personality traits. However, the uncertainty of personality functions and especially the various dimensions in the formation of psychological stress of independent auditors has caused that today the functions of personality traits in the formation of psychological stress of independent auditors are unclear. On the other hand, the differences in the field of personality traits on the process of formation of psychological stress of independent auditors among different personality types are unclear. Given the above, the researcher seeks to answer the question of whether personality traits affect the formation of stress in Employees? Methods: The present study is an applied and descriptive-survey research that was conducted in the field. To conduct this research, 313 people were selected from the independent auditors working in the auditing profession in the year 1 in Tehran (1636 people) by available sampling method and using Krejcie and Morgan table, 313 people were selected as the sample. Finally, 296 questionnaires were collected and analyzed. To collect data in this study, a researcher-made questionnaire of stress with 8 questions was used. The questions of the questionnaire were scored based on a range of five Likert options (strongly agree to strongly disagree). And the Personality Traits Questionnaire (NEO), developed in 1985 by McCurry and Costa. It is a 60-item questionnaire used to assess the five main personality factors. The answer to this questionnaire is based on the Likert scale (very high, high, medium, low and very low). Finally, after distributing and collecting the questionnaires, the data were analyzed using the structural equation method with partial least squares approach (SEM-PLS) using SPSS software version 20 and PLS version 3. Results: According to the results of the research model and according to the degree of t-relationships, it was found that flexibility, extraversion, agreement and conscientiousness have a negative effect on stress. It was also found that the personality trait of emotional instability exacerbates stress (Table 1). In order to evaluate the fit of the research model, selected indicators were used. In this regard, the results showed that the research model has a good fit in all indicators. Conclusion: The results of the present Peugeot hash showed that flexibility, extraversion, agreement and conscientiousness have a negative effect on the psychological pressure of independent auditors. The results also showed that the personality trait of emotional instability exacerbates the stress on independent auditors. Undoubtedly, personality traits can influence the process of formation of independent auditors' stress by influencing individual behaviors and attitudes as well as creating different mental and psychological states. In general, it can be said that accountants have high job stress because they face heavy responsibilities, those auditors who have a high score of neuroticism because of characteristics such as negative and irrational thoughts, anxiety, Depression, low self-esteem, and shyness lead to lower control over their work, lower quality of service, and increased errors, resulting in increased stress, which in turn reduces mental health. The results also showed that conscientiousness has a direct effect on mental health. To explain this result, according to the finding of Momeni et al. (16), it can be said that auditors who have high conscience are responsible, with high ability to plan and organize, logical, progressive and conscientious, so mental health. Persons with borderline personality disorder (BPD) experience heightened emotional instability. Different components underlie instability, and the relation between instability and well-being could be confounded by average emotionality and within-person standard deviation across emotional states, reflecting variability. Therefore, the goal was to examine which pattern of emotion dynamics parsimoniously captures the emotional trajectories of persons with BPD. Forty persons with BPD, 38 clinical controls in a major depressive episode, and 40 healthy controls rated the intensity of their emotions 10 times a day for 1 week. After correction for differences in average emotionality, persons with BPD showed heightened emotional instability compared to both control groups. When additionally correcting for emotional variability, the authors found that instability indices did not differ between groups anymore. This shows that persons with BPD differ from control groups in the magnitude of emotional deviations from the emotional baseline, and not necessarily in the degree of abruptness of these deviations. Introduction: Given the growing evidence of reduced heart rate variability in psychiatric diseases associated with emotional instability, we investigated cardiovascular autonomic modulation in patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) during resting state, parasympathetic stimulation (metronomic breathing), and sympathetic stimulation (mental arithmetic stress test). Methods: In 29 BPD outpatients and 30 controls, we recorded RR-intervals (RRI), blood pressure, skin conductance levels, and respiratory frequency during resting state, metronomic breathing, stress anticipation, stress exposure, and stress recovery. We calculated baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) and parameters of heart rate variability, including the root mean square of successive differences (RMSSD), an index of cardiovagal modulation. Results: During resting state, BPD patients showed higher blood pressure and shorter RRI, as well as lower RMSSD and BRS than controls. Metronomic breathing increased RMSSD and BRS in BPD patients. During the stress exposure, BRS significantly decreased in controls, but not in BPD patients. Furthermore, BPD patients showed less cardioacceleration in response to stress exposure than controls. During stress recovery, we found increases in RMSSD and BRS in controls, but not in BPD patients. Conclusion: Our data show reduced cardiovascular autonomic modulation in BPD patients during resting state, psychophysiological relaxation, and stress exposure. The results indicate a vagal modulation deficit in this cohort. Breathing techniques, such as metronomic breathing, might be helpful to reduce stress and to increase vagal tone in BPD patients. Growing evidence indicates that both positive and negative emotion potentially influence the development and maintenance of anorexia nervosa, through both positive and negative reinforcement of weight loss activities. Such reactive emotional experience may be characterized by frequent and intense fluctuations in emotion, a construct known as emotional instability. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between positive emotional instability and weight loss activities in anorexia nervosa, and to investigate the synergistic effects of positive and negative emotional instability on promoting weight loss activities. Using ecological momentary assessment methods, 118 participants with anorexia nervosa reported their emotional experiences and behaviors at least six times daily over 2 weeks using a portable digital device. Using generalized linear modeling, results indicated that high levels of both positive and negative emotional instability, and the interaction between the two, were associated with more frequent weight-loss activities, beyond anorexia subtype and mean levels of emotional intensity. These findings indicate that when women with anorexia exhibit both high levels of both positive and negative emotional instability they are more prone to a variety of weight loss activities. The importance of addressing the role of both positive and negative emotion in anorexia treatment is discussed.

Background: Previous studies identified an association between schizophrenia and emotional instability. However, the relationship between schizotypal personality traits and emotional instability has not been explored to date. Furthermore, both mediating and moderating factors need to be identified.Methods: A total of 2936 students completed the Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire (SPQ), the Affective Lability Scale-Short Form (ALS-SF), and the Davos Assessment of Cognitive Biases Scale (DACOBS).Results: 1) The total scores of DACOBS (and all dimensions) and ALS-SF (and all dimensions) in the high schizotypal personality trait group were higher than in the low schizotypal personality trait group (all P < 0.05). 2) SPQ score and DACOBS social cognition problems, subjective cognitive problems, jumping to conclusions bias, and external attribution bias subscale scores positively predicted the total score of ALS-SF (or the dimensions of ALS-SF) in both male and female populations (all P < 0.05). 3) In the male population, DACOBS social cognition problems, subjective cognitive problems, jumping to conclusions bias, and external attribution bias subscale scores mediated the relationship between SPQ score and ALS-SF total score (or its subscales). In the female population, DACOBS attention for threat bias, external attribution bias, jumping to conclusions bias, social cognition problems, and subjective cognitive problems subscale scores mediated the relationship between SPQ score and ALS-SF total score (or its subscales). 4) Gender exerted a moderating effect on this relationship between SPQ score and ALS-SF total/anxiety-depression score (all P < 0.05).Conclusions: Schizotypal personality traits might influence emotional instability through cognitive biases, and the degree of this influence varies depending on gender. The present study analyzes the relationship between parental socialization practices, acceptance/involvement, and strictness/imposition, and different indicators of adolescent adjustment, taking into account the role of family self-esteem. A sample of 848 Spanish adolescents (54.70% females) ranging in age from 14 to 18 years old (M = 16.11, SD = 1.10) participated in the study. A series of structural equations models (SEMs) were tested to examine the mediational role of family self-esteem in the relationship between parenting practices and the outcome variables that capture adolescent adjustment: emotional instability, antisocial behavior, and academic achievement. The influence of parental practices on adolescent adjustment is expected to take place through family self-esteem. The results showed that the effect of acceptance/involvement and strictness/imposition practices on emotional instability, antisocial behavior, and academic achievement was mediated by family self-esteem. Family self-esteem eliminates the previous direct relationships between parental practices and all the adolescent adjustment variables, except the one between acceptance/involvement and emotional instability, which was reduced but not eliminated. Acceptance/involvement practices positively influence adolescents' adjustment via family self-esteem, whereas strictness/imposition practices negatively influence adolescents' adjustment via family self-esteem. This study contributes to clarifying the relationship between parental practices and adolescent adjustment, considering family self-esteem as a mediational variable rather than as an adolescent adjustment indicator. The present findings and their implications for parenting science are discussed. Highlights: Little is known about the underlying mechanisms that can explain how parenting can protect or harm adolescent adjustment. A few scholars have proposed that family self-perceptions could mediate between parenting and adolescent adjustment. Both non-emotional symptoms, such as inattention, and symptoms of emotional instability (EI) are partially co-varying and normally distributed in the general population. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), which is associated with both inattention and emotional instability, has been related to lower reward anticipation activation in the ventral striatum. However, it is not known whether non-emotional dysregulation, such as inattention, or EI—or both—are associated with this effect. We hypothesized that altered reward processing relates specifically to EI. To test this, 29 healthy participants were recruited to this functional MRI study (n = 15 females). Reward processing was studied using a modified version of the Monetary Incentive Delay (MID) task. Brown Attention-Deficit Disorder Scales questionnaire was used to assess EI and inattention symptoms on a trait level. We observed less ventral striatal activation during reward anticipation related to the EI trait in females, also when controlling for the inattention trait, but not in the whole sample or males only. Our study suggests the existence of sex differences in the relationship between reward processing and EI/inattention traits.

We investigated how a lack of trust in one's romantic partner exacerbates problems such as emotional instability, conflict, or intention to break up in relationships with the role of cell phone snooping as a mediator. A cross-sectional survey of married individuals (n = 329) was conducted using an online questionnaire. Results indicate that lack of trust is a significant predictor of romantic relationship problems. In addition, structural equation modeling results support the theoretical model indicating that cell phone snooping partially mediates the significant relationship between emotional instability, intention to break up, and conflicts. Since ancient philosophy, extraordinary creativity is associated with mental disorders, emotional and cognitive destabilization, and melancholia. We here summarize the results of empirical and narrative studies and analyze the most prominent case of a highly creative person who suffered from dysthymia and major depression with suicidality. Hereby, we focus on the interaction of different phases of the creative process with "bipolar" personality traits. Finally, we offer an interdisciplinary interpretation of the creative dialectics between order and chaos. The results show that severe psychopathology inhibits creativity. Mild and moderate disorders can inspire and motivate creative work but are only leading to new and useful solutions when creators succeed in transforming their emotional instability and cognitive incoherence into stable and coherent forms. The cultural idea that creativity emerges in dialectical processes between order and chaos, is also to be found in the psychologic interplay of coherence and incoherence, and in neuro-scientific models of the dynamics between tightening and loosening of neuronal structures. Background: Alcohol misuse continues to be a significant public health problem. Understanding the factors that may contribute to the harmful progression in drinking is an important aspect of public health. Previous research has shown that affect regulation is associated with problematic alcohol use. Additionally, emotion instability has been found as a predictor of alcohol‐related problems and may be linked to reinforcement mechanisms. Methods: The current study examined positive mood, negative mood, and mood instability in real time across drinking and nondrinking days utilizing ecological momentary assessment (EMA). Current drinkers (n = 74) were recruited for a 21‐day EMA study. Participants completed up to 10 random assessments of positive mood, negative mood, and alcohol use per day. Mood instability was assessed as the squared difference in current mood from mood in the previous assessment. Data were analyzed using piecewise multilevel regression to examine mood trajectories across drinking and nondrinking days. Results: Positive emotion across the day was higher on drinking days than nondrinking days and continued to increase after drinking initiation. In contrast, negative emotion across the day was lower on drinking days than nondrinking days and continued to decrease after drinking initiation. Emotional functioning was stable across the day on nondrinking days. However, on drinking days there was a steady increase in emotional instability leading up to drinking initiation, followed by a rapid stabilization after initiation. Conclusions: This study highlights the potentially reinforcing impact of alcohol via emotional stability. Overall, these findings highlight the importance of mood dynamics when examining the reinforcing effects of alcohol consumption. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Borderline personality disorder (BPD) usually begins in adolescence and manifests itself in adult life. Early intervention can improve the prognosis or reduce its severity. Nevertheless, there are currently few studies of adolescent patients with severe emotion instability and borderline personality traits. Aims: To evaluate the effectiveness of the Systems Training for Emotional Predictability and Problem Solving (STEPPS) programme in a sample of 21 adolescents (aged 13–17 years) in the Child and Adolescents Mental Health Center of Tarragona in Spain. Method: We evaluated BPD traits using the Diagnostic Interview for Borderline Disorder-Revised (DIB-R) and the Global Clinical Impression Scale of Illness Severity for TLP (CGI-TLP). We compared pre- and post-treatment scores for the DIB-R, CGI-GI scale, general psychopathology using the Personality Inventory for Adolescents (PAI-A) and impulsivity with the Barratt Impulsivity Scale (BIS-11). The therapeutic objectives were evaluated with the Borderline Estimate Severity over Time (BEST) scale. Results: There was a statistically significant improvement in the scores for the affective area and in the total score of the DIB-R, a decrease in the percentage of patients who failed to meet criteria for BPD, and an improvement (although not statistically significant) in the scores of the BEST scale throughout the treatment. The results of the CGI-GI scale showed global improvement in almost 72% of patients. Conclusion: Our study suggests that STEPPS can be an effective treatment to improve BPD symptoms and is very useful in community settings with limited resources in which efficient treatment alternatives must be sought. Background: Temperament and personality traits, including negative emotionality/neuroticism, may represent risk factors for eating disorders. Further, risk factors may differ by sex. We examined longitudinal temperament/personality pathways of risk for purging and binge eating in youth stratified by sex using data from a large-scale prospective study. Methods: Temperament, borderline personality features, sensation seeking, 'big five' personality factors, and depressive symptoms were measured at five time points from early childhood to adolescence in 5812 adolescents (3215 females; 2597 males) in the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children. We conducted univariate analyses with these predictors of binge eating and purging at 14 and 16 years for total and sex-stratified samples. We used structural equation modeling (SEM) to fit data to a path analysis model of hypothesized associations. Results: Of the total sample, 12.54% engaged in binge eating and 7.05% in purging by 16 years. Prevalence was much greater and increased dramatically for females from 14 years (7.50% binge eating; 2.40% purging) to 16 years (15.80% binge eating; 9.50% purging). For both sexes, borderline personality, depressive symptoms and lower emotional stability predicted eating disorder behaviors; sensation seeking and conscientiousness were also significant predictors for females. SEM identified an 'emotional instability' pathway for females from early childhood into adolescence (RMSEA = 0.025, TLI = 0.937 and CFI = 0.970). Conclusions: Binge eating and purging are common in female and male adolescents. Early temperament/personality factors related to difficulty regulating emotions were predictive of later adolescent eating disorder behaviors.
