This study aimed to identify key factors affecting delayed diagnosis in OC patients.Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on OC patients treated at Taihe Hospital, Hubei University of Medicine from June 2023 to September 2023. Patients were categorized based on a three-months cut-off point for delayed diagnosis. Collected data included demographics, tumor incidence, and disease cognition. The analysis of variance and the chi-squared test was used for comparison between groups.Results: The significant differences were found in age, residence, education level, family income, family history of tumor, histology, FIGO stage, and tumor location between groups (P< 0.05). Multifactorial logistic regression analysis identified education level [odds ratio (OR) = 0.606; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.440, 0.833; P = 0.002], family history of tumor (OR = 0.462; 95% CI: 0.214, 0.997; P = 0.049), emotional barriers (OR = 1.332; 95% CI: 1.081, 1.642; P = 0.007), and practical barriers (OR = 2.964; 95% CI: 2.195, 4.004; P < 0.001) as risk factors for delayed diagnosis of OC.Conclusion: Patient cognition is crucial in OC diagnosis delay. Enhancing public awareness and understanding of OC is essential to eliminate fear and improve early diagnosis.Keywords: ovarian cancer, delayed diagnosis, disease awareness, emotional barriers

Dear editor Successful communication helps us better understand people, their situations, and celebrate diversities, build respect and trust, solve problems, and share creative ideas. Social workers are professionals dedicated to improving the well-being of individuals, families, and communities. They work in various settings such as schools, hospitals, and community centers, helping people overcome social challenges and access necessary support services. Communicating effectively is essential for social workers to build trust, establish relationships, and ultimately make a positive impact in their communities. Lack of effective communication between social workers and the community might have serious implications. Furthermore, poor communication skills among social workers can contribute to harm and a lack of care in the community.

Objective: Paternal participation and experiences in childhood weight management is an understudied studied area. Given the important role fathers play in childhood obesity prevention and treatment, the aim of this study was to explore Norwegian fathers' experiences of helping to prevent further weight gain in their children with overweight or obesity. Methods: Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with eight fathers of ten children with overweight or obesity and analysed by qualitative content analysis. Results: The analysis resulted in one overall theme: Balancing between assuming and avoiding responsibility for weight management with a desire to preserve the child's dignity, comprising two themes: 1) Alternating between concern, helplessness and responsibility, 2) Needing acknowledgement, and flexible and tailored professional support, both of which have several sub-themes. Conclusion: Fathers need guidance on how to talk to their children to prevent further weight gain, while at the same time emphasizing safeguarding the child's dignity. Healthcare professionals should address parents' own emotional barriers and include fathers to a greater extent as a resource in family-centred counselling and tailor guidance and support to help with childhood weight management. This article discusses the communication barriers faced by social workers when engaging with communities and proposes strategies to overcome these obstacles. The challenges include a lack of clear communication channels within the community, language and cultural barriers, limited resources and time constraints, emotional barriers and resistance to change, limited access to socio-economic factors, and a lack of digital technology awareness. The authors suggest strategies such as establishing trust and rapport, adapting communication styles to meet the needs of diverse populations, practicing active listening and empathy, and utilizing technology and social media for efficient communication. Worldwide colorectal cancer (CRC) screening rates are suboptimal. This systematic review and meta-analysis examine the role of disgust in CRC screening avoidance. A systematic literature search was conducted. In all, 46 studies were included in the review. Among these, 16 studies were compared with a meta-analytical approach in order to 1) estimate the effect size of state disgust on screening intention and attendance; 2) examine whether methodological characteristics moderate the effect of state disgust on screening behaviour; 3) estimate the effect sizes of trait disgust and type of exam kit on state disgust. In the reviewed studies, state disgust was often associated with CRC screening and especially with CRC screening avoidance. The meta-analysis confirmed low-to-moderate negative effects of state disgust on screening intention and attendance. Population sampling strategy was the only significant moderator of the effect of state disgust on screening attendance, i.e. studies that used convenience (versus random/representative) samples found a significantly lower effect size. Trait disgust and type of exam kit exerted a large and a moderate-to-large positive effect, respectively, on state disgust. Disgust can boost CRC screening avoidance. Further studies and interventions must be designed to help patients in overcoming this emotional barrier. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents the results of a study devoted to the description of the socio-psychological characteristics of students with disabilities, which influence the success of adaptation to learning in higher education institutions, and also establishes the factor structure of socio-psychological adaptation to learning of students in this category. Two groups of subjects were compared: adapted and less adapted students. As a result of the study, it was found that adapted students with disabilities are characterized by developed social and communicative competencies, orientation towards professional growth and a career in the future against the backdrop of a significant decrease in intellectual and cognitive skills motives expressed in the desire for knowledge and mastery of a profession. Factor structure of socio-psychological adaptation of adapted students with disabilities represents an adequately developed personal-communicative potential, assimilative adaptation to the student group with the goal of overcoming existential needs and a specific manifestation of activity aimed at supporting self-conceptual integrity.

Purpose – The present paper aims to understand the influence of consumer's functional, psychological and emotional barriers to the use of digital banking services. Design/methodology/approach – The authors carried out a quantitative study in which data were collected through a self-administered online questionnaire. A final sample of 202 Brazilian adults, with and without experience in using digital banking services, enabled the test of research hypotheses by means of a structural equation modeling approach. Findings – The authors found statistical evidence that supports the hypothesis that psychological barriers, emotional barriers and user experience positively influence the resistance to the use of digital banking services. However, there is no empirical evidence supporting that the influence of functional barriers affects the resistance to the use of digital banking services. Practical implications – Efforts to understand the mechanisms that lead consumers to adopt or reject innovative products or services are important to prevent investments in these innovations, avoiding revenue failures. The results provide managerial implications by favoring the creation of communication programs capable of reducing the possibilities of innovation failure. Originality/value – The main theoretical contribution of this work is the identification of the predominant influence of emotional barriers, in comparison to functional barriers, on the resistance to innovation in digital banking services. Currently, the models that illustrate resistance to innovation tend to focus solely on functional aspects; however, these models can be improved by incorporating emotional aspects.

Purpose: Clinicians face personal barriers that impede the provision of bereavement care and require education in hospice care. This study aims to investigate the effects of an educational bereavement program on emotional and cognitive barriers, self-efficacy, and professional quality of life among clinicians in hospice care. Methods: A pretest–posttest design was implemented. A total of 194 clinicians with working experience in hospice care were recruited. The participants underwent a 12-h workshop. The content included lectures, role-play, and group discussion. Emotional and cognitive barriers, self-efficacy, and professional quality of life were measured before and after the program and at 3-month follow-up. Results: After the educational program, negative emotional barriers (F (2, 386) = 17.07, p < 0.001), lack of ability (F (2, 386) = 20.11, p < 0.001), belief in avoidance (F (2, 386) = 7.10, p = 0.001), outcome expectancy (F (2, 386) = 11.32, p < 0.001), and burnout (F (2, 386) = 5.59, p = 0.005) decreased significantly. Self-efficacy (F (2, 386) = 5.37, p = 0.006) and compassion satisfaction (F (2, 386) = 127.99, p < 0.001) increased significantly. Conclusion: The educational program addressed personal barriers to bereavement care. Role-play and group discussion about emotional and cognitive barriers can reduce barriers and improve self-efficacy in clinicians in hospice care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Bereavement care is one of the major components of hospice palliative care. Previous studies revealed the barriers to the success of the system, including lack of time or support from mental health professionals. Few studies have explored the intrapersonal barriers to bereavement care by clinical staff. The aims of the study were to explore (1) the emotional and cognitive barriers of bereavement care by hospice palliative care staff and (2) the demographic and work characteristics related to these emotional and cognitive barriers.Method: The participants were clinical staff (n = 301) who were working in hospice palliative care units, including hospice wards, home care, and hospital-based palliative care teams. Their professional backgrounds included physicians (n = 12), nurses (n = 172), social workers (n = 59), psychologists (n = 34), spiritual care specialists (n = 15), and others (n = 9). A cross-sectional design was used and a standardized questionnaire including emotional and cognitive barriers was developed. Information on demographic and work characteristics was also collected. Content validity index, an exploratory factor analysis, and multiple regression analysis were conducted.Results: One emotional barrier, "negative emotional reactions" (13 items, Cronbach's α = 0.92), and three cognitive barriers, "lack of ability" (7 items, Cronbach's α = 0.85), "belief in avoidance" (5 items, Cronbach's α = 0.86), and "outcome expectancy" (4 items, Cronbach's α = 0.85) were identified. Clinical staff who had higher working stress, lower self-rated ability for bereavement care, and higher negative impact from major life loss tended to have higher emotional and cognitive barriers.Significance Of Results: Clinical staff should be aware of intrapersonal barriers to bereavement care. The relevance of the study is explained by modern requirements to education process, pedagogic goals aimed at improving education quality, as a result the emotional tension and fatigue increases among university teachers. In this regard, this article is aimed at identifying the relationship between teachers' professional burnout and self-regulation. The leading method to investigate this problem is the technique of diagnosing levels of emotional burnout and emotional barriers in education interpersonal communication allowing considering comprehensively teachers' professional burnout as a result of long-term professional stresses of medium intensity. The article presents university teachers' characteristics with high and moderate degrees of emotional burnout syndrome. Article disclosed that teacher's professional burnout depends on the integration of personal qualities and abilities. The article is of practical value for elaboration and differentiation comprehensive programs for correction and prevention of emotional burnout among university teachers, taking into account their abilities to self-regulation. ABSTRACT Despite increasing the number of engineering departments and students in Iran, the quality of education is less than satisfactory. Regarding the huge potential of Web 2.0 applications, which is also known as Web 2.0 tools, Web 2.0 services, or social media, for improving the quality of teaching and learning, this study was undertaken to investigate the perception of the faculty members toward using these technologies for teaching and learning engineering, the ways they use these tools for educational aims, and the factors that influence. The systematic design of grounded theory method was followed to achieve the research objectives. In addition, the required data was collected through interview and questionnaire and NVivo 8 software was used to facilitate data analysis process. The results show that the faculty members use some of these applications occasionally for the sole purpose of obtaining information. The traditional teaching method, which is influenced by the instructors' traditional mindset, traditional curricula, and organizational disregard for the quality of teaching, are the most salient factors. Also, instructors' emotional barriers and limited access to these tools in Iran are subsidiary factors influencing the failure to use these tools for teaching engineering. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
