The analysis and classification of dates is based on their external features: size, appearance, shape, and colour. The process is currently performed manually after harvesting as part of the post-harvesting process. Grading manually is tedious because it usually results in time delays, product quality risks, and it is associated with time and cost delays as well. Although the use of computers and information technology has seen tremendous growth in many small and large sectors, it has been in its infancy in the cultivation of fruit and dates. Using image processing algorithms, we can enhance human vision capabilities through analysis and make images easier to comprehend. A major objective of computer vision-based algorithms for classifying and sorting of dates is to make the procedure fully automated by minimizing the manual component involved in the process. This paper presents an image processing-based algorithm that uses machine learning techniques to extract the characteristics of colour intensity and colour homogeneity, allowing us to grade images in a more timely and automated manner. In order to obtain the results, we extracted the appearance of the date images based on an image processing algorithm. It is used as a validation element for the results that the quality of dates-fruit images can be evaluated through the prior selection process in both separate and in groups. Bones act as a mineral storage reservoir for calcium and phosphorus. Proper well grown bones give a perfect posture to the human body. In other case, if the bone has an improper growth, it might lead to an abnormal posture or an awkward posture. Scoliosis is a condition where the scoliotic vertebrae are wedge shaped and differ with the shape of normal vertebrae. Treatment for scoliosis depends on Cobb angle which can be measured using spine X-rays. Recent development in the medical imaging techniques brought us to a new research area in image processing which includes medical image enhancement, detailed visualization of internal organs & tissues and edge detection. Bone edges are important feature in an X-ray image. The purpose of application of segmentation in medical imaging is to develop a detailed framework on human anatomy, whose primary objective is to outline the anatomical structures. Whereas edge detection is a technique which extracts vital features like corners, lines, angles and curves from an image. In this study, we are going to deal with the edge detection technique on scoliotic vertebrae. The objective of this paper is to compare the performance of edge detectors using filters and operators.

The paper deals with low-level car detection methods in images. The car detection is an integral part of all intelligent car cruise systems. This article describes the method for suppression of the edges produced by classical edge's operators, based on application of the cumulative method. The designed method uses the non-stationary property of the picture background in time-realizations of the image signal.

This paper presents an embedded implementation of a hardware-efficient method for motion information extraction from a video signal. The high computing cost of gradient-based methods makes their implementation in compact devices for real-time applications challenging. We present our achievements in implementing a novel, simplified version of a gradient-based method, using an FPGA circuit-based system for on-line Sobel edge detection and edge displacement-based optical flow computation. The image data is acquired from a dedicated embedded camera transmitted to the reconfigurable platform. The design and implementation steps of the devised method are presented, followed by the description of the system's setup and measurement results. The yielded results are compared to similar implementations. These results lead to possibilities in using the developed system for the enhancement of indoor mobile robot localization. While maintaining the privacy has become a major problem and also duplication of images have reduced the capacity of the databases. The authors a two level framework for maintaining privacy and securing the photo share. Users who want to maintain privacy are usually provided with access control. The canny edge detection technique is used for the deduplication of images. It increases the storage space capacity of the database. In this paper, a new configuration of the edge-weighted high-pass filter and a design method for the weight function are proposed. A widely used image enhancement method is to amplify the high-frequency components of the image and to intensify the brightness differential of the edges. This method, generally called the unsharp masking method, allows enhancement effects to be obtained with a simple structure. If a linear high-pass filter is used as a method of extracting the high-frequency components from the input image, the noise components superimposed on the image appear in the high-pass filter output and are enhanced. In order to resolve this problem, a weight function defined from the edge characteristics is multiplied by the high-pass filter so that the amplitude of the high-pass filter output is suppressed in the flat image region. However, in the conventional edge-weighted high-pass filter, the noise components generated on the edge coordinates are strongly emphasized. Therefore, the edge coordinates of the output image fluctuate irregularly and discontinuities appear in the frame lines. In this investigation, in order to suppress the noise components on the edge coordinates, a new edge-weighted high-pass filter structure is proposed. In this structure, the high-pass filter is decomposed into cascaded connections. The weighting function is multiplied by the filter output from the previous stage. Further, in order to suppress noise amplification, the weight function is defined as a linear sum of the edge characteristic measures. By statistical analysis of the noise amplification, the parameters of the weight function minimizing the output noise variance are obtained. The proposed image enhancement method is experimentally compared with the conventional method and its effectiveness is confirmed. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ultrasonic NDE of anisotropic materials, due to its inherent complexity, demands a stringent approach to determine wave propagation path in presence of inhomogeneities. In addition to developing inspection procedures, the ray path information needs to be integrated with the tomographic reconstruction algorithm of composite materials. The present study proposes a method to identify inhomogeneity boundaries using edge detection approach and to implement the same in two-dimensional ray tracing model. In general, inhomogeneity boundaries can be detected on the basis of first-order gradient of a field value (such as Young's modulus). The boundaries can be represented in terms of location and orientation. This information is included in the algorithm for more accurate ray tracing. Up to now there have been reports on a number of comparative evaluations on the capabilities of region segmentation methods which are one part of image segmentation. However, evaluations on the ease of setting the required parameters and their stabilities when these met hock are used have not been performed yet. Therefore, in this paper, we will quantitatively study the relationships between the parameters and the characteristics (shape and orientation) of the target objects in the image for several representative region segmentation methods, and examine the accuracy of the extraction and parameter stability. The methods dealt with are (1) iterative merging method, (2) a method based on statistical hypothesis test, (3) a heuristic method, (4) a split and merge method, (5) a relative similarity method, and (6) a region- and edge-based method. Synthetic and real world images are used to evaluate each method. The evaluation begins by examining the processing time (computational costs) for synthetic images. Next, the stability of the process parameters, that is, to what degree the shape of the subject, the orientation of the subject's boundary, and the effect of noise change the accuracy of the extraction for constant process parameters is studied. For this evaluation, four evaluation standards are established for synthetic images, and three arc established for a real world image. The results were that come pared to the other methods, the iterative merging method, method (1), and the region- and edge-based method, method (6), clearly demonstrated relatively high segmentation accuracy and stability in the segmentation result.
