The purpose of the study was to carry out a comprehensive analysis of the legislative framework in the field of forest resource management in Albania in the context of forest ecology, and species diversity, and to identify the main problems and prospects for sustainable development of the country's forestry. The research methodology included the analysis of statistical data from the National Institute of Statistics of Albania on the structure of forest ecosystems and forms of their management. The results of studies conducted by international organizations such as the World Bank, Global Environment Facility, and Oikon d.o.o. were also used. The structure and composition of Albania's forest resources, including those of natural and semi-natural origin, are analysed. The legal framework in the field of forest management in Albania is summarized. Different management structures for forestry land are characterized, with the identification of the specifics of use for different forms of ownership. The main problems of forest management are identified, including intensive exploitation of private forests, lack of subsidies and investments, as well as imperfect legislative regulation. Adaptation measures to increase the sustainability of Albania's forests within the framework of the Albanian Forest Policy Document for the period 2019-2030 are substantiated. Strategic areas of development, such as the expansion of protected areas, the development of ecotourism and the attraction of green investments, are proposed. The study also emphasizes the importance of international cooperation for financial and technical support, which will facilitate the implementation of sustainable forest management practices and biodiversity conservation. The article presents an attempt at a comprehensive macroeconomic modeling of the activities of the Russian forest industry with an analysis of the topical issue on the agenda of maximizing the potential of forests in order to decarbonize the national economy. An original economic-mathematical model of the regional forest complex is proposed, detailed by blocks: logging, timber industry, forest ecosystem services. Unlike most similar models, which, as a rule, are built around the description of trade flows of the entire range of forest products, this work proceeds from the consideration of the forest complex as a source of a full range of forest ecosystem services. The model has been tested for the regions of Siberia and the Far East, where a significant part of Russian forests and capacities for their industrial processing are located. The results of scenario calculations show that the preservation of current trends in forest management in these regions is unacceptable both from the point of view of the sustainable development of the industry (due to the approaching depletion of the forest resource base) and in the context of responding to the challenges that are relevant to the Russian economy. The target to increase carbon sequestration to 1.2 billion tons of CO2-equivalent by 2050, declared in the Strategy for the socioeconomic development of the Russian Federation with a low level of greenhouse gas emissions, is an important signal for the growth of investment attractiveness of the forest-climatic sector, which is new for the Russian economy. Calculations show that with the full development of forest-climatic initiatives, this sector can give an additional impetus to the development of the economy and transform the purely raw-material domestic forest industry into one of the flagships of the international decarbonization agenda. The work of the IV All-Russian scientific conference with international participation “Scientific foundations for sustainable forest management” is analyzed. Plenary and sectional reports were presented at five thematic sections and meetings of two round tables. Topical issues related to the development of forest science in the following areas were considered: monitoring and assessment of biological diversity and ecosystem functions/services of forests and their components; improvement of forestry legislation; assessment of the impact of climate change on forests, ways to mitigate the effects of climate change, adaptation to climate change; ways of solving reforestation and reproduction of forest problems; ways of solving problems of forest protection from fires and forest protection. The conference was attended by 185 forestry specialists from 50 institutions.

Solution of ecological problems is an urgent and extremely important task at the present stage of soсial-economic development of Ukraine. Unreasonably high degree of economic (mostly agricultural) reclaiming of area causes spreading and intensification of degradation processes in ecosystems. Conservation of lands, including the one carried out by means of foresting of degraded lands, is the principal way to renature environment. The article concerns an issue of land conservation in the context of ecosystem services of forests. The aim of the article is to assess the economic value of ecosystem services of forests in case of land conservation. To achieve the aim the authors developed a classification system of ecosystem services of forests according to their functional purposes; provide the calculation of prospective economic value of ecosystem services while foresting of a land plot with heavy eroded soil. The research was carried out using system, monographic and abstract-logical methods. The integral evaluation of prospective ecosystem services of forest in case of foresting of degraded land resulted in: minimum – 5. 07 thousand UAH per 1 ha in a year, maximum – 35. 91 thousand UAH per 1 ha in a year. The calculation of economic costs of ecosystem services should be applied for assessment of the economic value from protection of nature-protective areas as well as implementation of economic stimulation for land conservation.
