Measuring sustainable development represents a fundamental issue which requires a complex approach in identifying relevant indicators to capture the global transformations of the contemporary economic paradigm, within the context of increasing globalization and of the integration of markets and economies. The recent evolutions of the environmenta lanalysis enforced total water footprint as a highly popular and core environmental performance indicator. The paper presents a critical approach on using total water footprint of agricultural products as a potential sustainable development indicator from the EU perspective, by applying a specific research method on clustering and concentration. The results prove that total water footprint of the agricultural products is highly country-specific dependent. The uneven distribution shown by grouping of countries and types of agricultural products consumption confirm this argument.

In highly competitive and modern economies, water represents a determinant productive resource and using the water footprint (WF) as a possible indicator in assessing sustainable development is integrated in the overall framework of macroeconomic efficiency analysis. The main aim of this paper is to argue that water footprint could represent a proper indicator in analyzing the sustainable economic development. In this context the territorial distribution of water footprint across the 28 EU countries is analyzed in order to substantiate decisions and achieve sustainable economic development forecasts and strategies at European level. The results have led to the conclusion that, overall, the total water footprint of national consumption in the 28 EU Member States has a very low degree of concentration, therefore, tends towards uniformity. With regard to the three types of water footprint, the main characteristic outcome of the research is the low degree of concentration for gray and green water footprint, while blue water footprint proves a moderate degree of concentration.

In this article, under the concept of environmental sustainability, it is focused on sustainability of sports organizations, ecologic footprints and its environmental effects. Sustainable development tries to maximize the resource productivity through activities such like protection of energy and un-renewable resources, reducing the risks, pollution prevention, reducing the ecologic footprints and minimization of wastes. Active and passive participation to sports events create an important effect on natural environment. Environmental degradation is caused by carbon emissions stemming from going to the events and coming back by all the shareholders, wastes produced in those areas, water and energy used to keep the playgrounds very green, arrangement of the fields, environmental damages of the constructions and many other factors, and they are required to be eliminated. In recent years, studies conducted on the environmental effects of big sports events have become frequently a current issue and host cities/countries have taken the proper steps in this regard and tried to apply the sanctions. We encounter development of a sustainability plan intended to produce carbon neutral, zero waste and a sustainable organization as one of the most efficient practices in determination of score in candidacy competition for the Olympic Games. Although IOC has involved aspect for protection of the environment, as third one, into the sports and culture aspects of Olympic movement, our way to use natural resources of the world in terms of sports organizations demonstrate that our ecologic footprint has increased. Extended English abstract is in the end of PDF (TURKISH) file . Buyuk spor olaylarinin cevresel etkileri konusunda yapilan calismalar, son zamanlarda sik sik gundeme gelmekte ev sahibi sehir\ulkeler bu konuda gerekli onlemleri alarak, yaptirimlari uygulamaya calismaktadirlar. Onemli spor olaylarinin cevresel etkisini azaltmaya yonelik bircok cabaya ragmen, kapsamli olcumler, degerlendirmeler ve spor sektorundeki cevresel surdurulebilirlik calismalari, yeterince tatmin edici olmadigi gorulmektedir. Yonetim alaninda cevresel surdurulebilirlik literaturunun zengin olmasina ragmen, spor yonetimi icinde cok sinirli kaldigi soylenebilir.
