Reproductive allocation and cost play a crucial role in the survival of organisms, but research on these traits in bryophytes has been limited and inconsistent. To address this, we conducted a literature review focusing on bryophyte studies. Our goal was to clarify inconsistencies and explore reproductive allocation and cost concepts, as well as current trends in bryophyte reproduction. We examined different approaches and highlighted advantages and limitations. We emphasized five key topics: the importance of understanding reproductive allocation and reproductive cost in bryophytes; the significance of bryophytes as model organisms; historical research; terminological and methodological inconsistencies; sexual dimorphism and reproductive allocation; and measurement methods. Furthermore, we provided insights into future perspectives. Based on our findings, we advocate for standardized quantification of reproductive allocation. Standardization would enhance comparability and synthesis of results, ultimately advancing our understanding of reproductive allocation and cost of reproduction in bryophytes. A formação inicial e continuada de educadores ambientais possui um histórico marcado pela fragmentação do conhecimento e pela influência do determinismo científico. A Teoria da Complexidade, proposta por Edgar Morin, apresenta-se como um desafio de pensamento diferenciado, trazendo implicações relevantes na formação de educadores ambientais. Nesse contexto, o objetivo deste estudo é aprofundar a Educação Ambiental (EA) sobre a Complexidade, reforçando a intrínseca conexão entre as questões sociais e ambientais desde sua origem, e como essas interações se materializam de forma concreta, conforme proposto por Morin. O artigo em questão realiza uma revisão sistemática, explorando a contribuição dos estudos em Complexidade para a pesquisa em EA, analisando cinco trabalhos publicados entre 2017 e 2022 no Projeto EArte (Estado da Arte da Pesquisa em Educação Ambiental), incluindo o Banco de Teses e Dissertações Brasileiras em Educação Ambiental (BT&D/EA). Este intervalo de cinco anos é particularmente relevante para compreender as mudanças, desafios e avanços ocorridos em um período de extrema importância para o nosso planeta, destacando as complexas interações entre os aspectos socioambientais.

Este artigo visa relatar e refletir sobre uma experiência de ensino em Cálculo Diferencial e Integral I, vivenciada na iminência da inflexão de aulas presenciais para as não presenciais por meio do Ensino Remoto Emergencial (ERE), devido à pandemia causada pela covid-19. Devido a essa transformação, professores passaram a atuar diante de um contexto excepcional, ao buscarem alternativas e ferramentas tecnológicas, para diminuir o dano educacional, preservando a qualidade de ensino sem prejuízo dos fundamentos matemáticos. Desse modo, a matemática deve ser abordada em uma perspectiva que inclui elementos de contextualização que envolve competências de professores e alunos. Portanto, o professor exerce um papel importante no processo de ensino-aprendizagem. Para este fim, propôs-se um problema de otimização onde a interação professor/aluno é evidenciada e aumento no nível de interesse na realização das tarefas foi constatado.

Collections of 36 species of predominantly low elevation Mojave Desert bryophytes from the mid-1990s were assessed for shoot and spore viability. Adult shoots of 16 (of 36) and spores of 14 (of 25) desert species were capable of germination or regeneration after 28 years of continuous desiccation (dark storage) under conditions of ∼23°C and 25–45% relative humidity. Most of the species found viable were in the families Pottiaceae and Grimmiaceae, but also included species of Bryum, Funaria and Ptychostomum. Both shoots and spores from the same collection (patch) of 9 species were viable, including Funaria hygrometrica, regarded in other habitats as an annual species. The oldest collection found viable was from shoots of Grimmia anodon, 29 yr 3 mos. Based on the vigor of shoot and spore regeneration/ germination observed in several species, the records presented here for desiccation longevity should be exceeded in the future. Tubers are described for the first time in the moss genus Timmiella (Pottiaceae). Using uniclonal cultures, tubers were produced after at least 3 months, were spherical, often occurred in groups ("nests"), ranged in size from 10–600 µm in diameter, and had a water content of ∼4% (dry wt basis) while yet retaining an oil-like residue. On a per individual shoot basis, belowground biomass in cultures equaled aboveground biomass. Tubers germinated in ∼3 days from planting by producing multiple protonemal filaments, similar to detached shoot tips and rhizoids, but much more rapidly than detached leaves. Germinated tubers eventually formed a colony (producing 50 protonemal shoots and extending horizontally 11 mm) in ∼30 days, measures very similar to detached shoot tips, and faster than rhizoids and detached leaves. The presence of Timmiella crassinervis in frequently burned regions of chaparral suggests fire frequency in California may have selected for greater belowground allocation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The growing interest in organic-inorganic compounds is motivated by the unique advantages these materials offer. Combining organic and inorganic elements enables the creation of structures with varied geometries, paving the way for a wide range of coordination possibilities and directed self-assembly. Aims: To synthesize and characterize by spectroscopic techniques and thermal analysis new Co+² compounds coordinated with 4-aminopyridine; 2,2'-bipyridine and evaluate their bactericidal potential against two distinct bacterial strains: Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli). Method: In this study, we report the synthesis route and characterization of the complexes by FTIRmed spectroscopy and TG/DSC thermal analysis, and the obtained complexes have the stoichiometry [Co(NH3)4(bipy)]Cl3.½H2O and [Co(NH3)4(4-apy)] Cl3.½ H2O. Results: The synthesis methodology of cobalt complexes with the ligands 4-aminopyridine and 2,2'-bipyridine proved effective, resulting in the formation of desired precipitates. The thermogravimetric analysis provided insights into the thermal properties of the complexes, indicating stability within certain temperature ranges. Mid-infrared spectroscopy allowed for the structural characterization of the complexes, highlighting characteristic shifts in the bonds of the coordinated ligands. Discussions: Evaluation of the bactericidal activity of the complexes yielded promising results, underscoring the importance of compound solubility. The complex [Co(NH3)4(bipy)]Cl.½H2O exhibited efficacy in bactericidal inhibition, particularly against the S. aureus strain. These findings emphasize the relevance of solubility and chemical composition in the antimicrobial activity of the complexes. Furthermore, the results contribute to the advancement of coordination chemistry and its potential applications, particularly in pharmacology. Conclusions: These biological activity tests revealed significant activity of the complexes against both bacterial strains. This suggests that these complexes have the potential to inhibit the growth and proliferation of these bacteria, indicating their usefulness as effective antimicrobial agents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, we investigate the vacuum expectation values of the field squared and the energy–momentum tensor associated to a charged massive scalar quantum field in a (1 + D) -dimensional de Sitter spacetime induced by a plate (flat boundary) and a carrying-magnetic-flux cosmic string. In our analysis, we admit that the flat boundary is perpendicular to the string, and the scalar field obeys the Robin boundary condition on the plate. In order to develop this analysis, we obtain the complete set of normalized positive-energy solutions of the Klein–Gordon equation compatible with the model setup. Having obtained these bosonic modes, we construct the corresponding Wightman function. The latter is given by the sum of two terms: one associated with the boundary-free spacetime, and the other induced by the flat boundary. Although we have imposed the Robin boundary condition on the field, we apply our formalism considering specifically the Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions. The corresponding parts have opposite signs. Because the analysis of bosonic vacuum polarization in boundary-free de Sitter space and in the presence of a cosmic string, in some sense, has been developed in the literature, here we are mainly interested in the calculations of the effects induced by the boundary. In this way, closed expressions for the corresponding expectation values are provided, as well as their asymptotic behavior in different limiting regions. We show that the conical topology due to the cosmic string enhances the boundary-induced vacuum polarization effects for both field squared and the energy–momentum tensor, compared to the case of a boundary in pure de Sitter spacetime. Moreover, the presence of a cosmic string and boundary induces non-zero stress along the direction normal to the boundary. The corresponding vacuum force acting on the boundary is also investigated. This study investigates the American presence and influences in the physical education press to understand the way in which that presence influenced and contributed to the production of a sports culture in the first half of the twentieth century. As historical sources, the study uses periodicals in the field that were published in the period 1932-1950. As a theoretical frame of reference, it uses the repertoire of the New Cultural History in terms of strategy, tactics and devices. It is written in a narrative way, following Ginzburg's style, presenting data and contextualizing them with the historic scene. Clues enabled us to infer that the American presence, which was catalysed by the Brazilian Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), sought to shape a sports culture from physical education and society. This effort reflected the yearning of Brazilian intellectuals for modernisation and an attempt at cultural colonisation by the government of the USA.
