With this work, aimed to verify through artificial inoculation, the phenotypic response of plants pumpkin cv. 'Caserta' to isolates of ZYMV and ZYMV+SqMV and also check the phenotypic reaction in four genotypes of melon from an isolated mixed (ZYMV+SqMV), both coming from watermelon producing regions in the state of Tocantins. The study was conducted in a greenhouse with a screened proof aphid. The experimental design was completely randomized with five plants per plot and three replications. The inoculated plants were observed for symptoms as at 28, 33 and 38 days after first inoculation. Pumpkin plants, inoculated with simple isolate, the predominant symptoms exhibited were mosaic and parallel veins. In mixed infections there were more severesymptoms, progressing to narrowing and leaf deformation, and bubbles, parallel ridges and spur, compromising much of the leaf area of plants evaluated. In melon genotypes, the symptoms observed were more severe in Sunshine and Yellow. Genotypes in El dorado genotype was observed only mosaic and melon Valenciano was not observed symptoms., Com esse trabalho, objetivou-se verificar através da inoculação artificial, a reação fenotípica de plantas de abóbora cv.

The use of vegetable compounds as an alternative for control phytopathogens has received prominence in research to enable sustainable management methods in agriculture. Fungi such as Didymella bryoniae, Pyricularia grisea, Rhizoctonia solani, and Sclerotium rolfsii are important for causing great losses in production. In this context, the purpose was to evaluate the fungitoxicity of plant oils in inhibiting themycelial growth of pathogenic fungi. The tests were conducted in completely randomized design with 13 treatments (Cymbopogon nardus, C. citratus, Lippia alba, Eugenia dysenterica, Caryocar brasiliense, Azadirachta indica, A. indica – commercial – Ageratumconyzoides, Jatropha curcas, Eucalyptus sp., Mentha piperita, Tiofanato metílico e Testemunha) and four replications. To evaluate the fungitoxicity were distributed, 1.5 μ L mL-1 of the treatment were distributed on the surface of PDA culture medium. The Eucalyptus sp., M. piperita, L. alba, C. nardus, and C. citratus essential oils inhibited the growth of the fungus P. grisea. D. bryoniae did not growth only in the treatment of C. citratus. The R. solani and S. rolfsii fungi did not show mycelial growth when subjected to treatments of M. piperita, L. alba, C. nardus, and C. citrates essential oils., O uso de compostos vegetais como alternativa para controle de fitopatógenos tem recebido destaque em pesquisas que visam viabilizar métodos de manejo sustentável na agricultura.

Success in lettuce production is initiated by obtaining good quality planting material, because it will lead to malformed plants with production below its genetic potential. The objective was to evaluate the production of lettuce under different substrates and proportions of rice hulls. The experimental design was completely randomized design with four replications. Treatments were arranged in a 4x5 factorial, four kinds of substrates (PlantHort I, PlantHort II, PlantHort III and substrate Plantmax®) and five levels of carbonized rice straw (0, 25, 50, 75, 100%). The morphological and physiological characteristics were evaluated chlorophyll a and b, leaf area, specific leaf area, leaf area ratio, ratio of leaf mass, stem and root at 24 days after sowing. The addition of increasing proportion of carbonized rice husk promotes reduction in morphological and physiological characteristics of lettuce. Regardless of the proportion of bark substrates PlantHort I, PlantHort II, PlantHort III, promote greater production and even distribution of assimilates in the shoot / root, compared to Plantmax®, this condition ensures that only the root system growth over the air. The alternative substrates provide seedlings of lettuce best quality at the expense of the substrate Plantmax®.

fungi ,Didymella bryoniae ,Cancro da haste ,food and beverages ,Citrullus lanatus - Abstract
The stem gummy blight (Didymella bryoniae) is one of the most important fungal diseases of the crop of the watermelon, because it causes damping off of the seedlings, lesions on leaves and cotyledons, and formation of cankers on stems and stalks. The fungus survives in the absence of the host on or beneath the soil, in sick crop residues, in other cultivated curcubitáceas, weeds or seeds. To control the disease is recommended the adoption of integrated management techniques, including cultural practices, chemical control and genetic control with the use of tolerant and / or resistant genotypes and other measures. This review aims to address the information to organize knowledge obtained in national and international literature on the gummy stem blight in watermelon crop. We tried to relate the aspects of etiology, epidemiology and controlling measures of D. bryoniae. It was noted that after several studies had been conducted so far, you must search for further information about the biology of the pathogen and the management of the disease in the field., O crestamento gomoso do caule (Didymella bryoniae) é uma das doenças fúngicas mais importantes da cultura da melancia, pois causa tombamento das plântulas, lesões nas folhas e cotilédones, e formação de cancros no caule e nas hastes.

Due to the short flowering period of the pumpkin hybrid 'Tetsukabuto', a poor pollination may influence the fruit production. In thissense, the objective of this study was to evaluate agronomic characteristics of the pumpkin hybrid (Tetsukabuto) as a function of 2,4-D doses as phytohormonal inducer. The experiment was conducted in the field, in a randomized block design with four replications and five plants per plot. It was established with eight treatments, seven of them increasing doses of 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (187.5, 200, 212.5, 225, 237.5, 250 and 262.5 mg L-1) and a control (flowers fertilized with pollen). At 110 days after sowing it was made a fruit harvest, evaluating the following characteristics: yield, fruit mean weight, texture of bark, fruit shape and cycle. The fruits mean weight, yield and days from planting to harvest with the use of 2,4-D were superior to natural pollination. Increasing the dose of 2,4-D resulted in an increase in yield and fruit mean weight until to dose 250 mg L-1. There was a reduction in the cycle culture with increasing in the 2,4-D doses. Lettuce is a vegetable mainly consumed in the form in nature, contain good amounts of vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and C. The adequate supply of nutrients is key, and N for lettuce is directly associated with the vegetative characteristics, reproductive and morphologic. The experiment was conducted at the Horticulture Department, Federal University of Tocantins (UFT), the city of Gurupi. Two cultivars, Elba and Veronica were used. The seedlings were grown in trays of 128 cells. At 27 days after transplanting, the following characteristics were evaluated: Fresh air mass (MFA) - Obtained by weighing the collected plants; Total number of leaves (NFT) - By counting the leaves of the plant; Head diameter (DC) - Obtained with the aid of a ruler; Air dried (MSA) mass - produced by drying the green mass in an oven at 60°C until constant weight when samples were weighed again. We highlight that the cv. Elba showed good development for the characteristics of head diameter. Already cv. Veronica was highlighted in fresh and dry air mass, as it increased the levels of N. The results showed a drop in production from a given dose. The results of the variables studied in this work showed a quadratic response in relation to the application of nitrogen fertilization as urea. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this work was to obtain information on the combining ability of sweet pepper lines by multivariate diallel analysis. Thirteen sweet pepper lines previously selected based on the reaction of sweet pepper yellow mosaic, being eight lines with resistance reaction and five susceptible lines, were used in a 8x5 partial diallel evaluated with the parental lines. The 53 genotypes were evaluated in greenhouse trials in a randomized blocks design with four replications. The traits total fruit yield, early fruit yield, mean fruit mass and plant height were evaluated. From these four traits, a univariate and multivariate diallel analysis was performed. Multivariate diallel analysis results were similar to those from univariate diallel analyses, with a predominance of non-additive effects. Favorableestimates of the GCA occurred for total fruit yield and early fruit yield in PIX-031D-188-14-10 and PIM- 013 in groups 1 and 2, respectively. The PIX-031D-171-10-10, PIX-031D-188-14-05 and PIM-004 lines were higher for mean fruit mass and plant height. The SCA estimates varied considerably for the evaluated features. Multivariate diallel analysis is a good option for parental choice, since it considers several characters simultaneously. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cucurbit crops may be affected by several virus diseases, which might cause up to 100% of yield losses. Due to its environmental conditions, favorable to the emergence of viruses, the state of Tocantins has shown a high incidence of virus diseases in the field. The main objective of this study was to identify and characterize, serological. Biological and molecularly, 25 virus isolates from pumpkin and watermelon collected in some regions of this state showing characteristic symptoms of viruses. Fourteen (56%) of the 25 isolates studied, were identified as Squash mosaic virus (SqMV). Seven of them were detected in Caserta squash and another seven in watermelon. The remaining isolates were identified as Zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV). SqMV showed higher incidence when compared to the other Brazilian States, where it normally either have not been detected or detected in very low incidence.

Two watermelon genotypes were used as parental in crosses designed to study the inheritance of resistance to PRSV-W: the cultivar Crimson Sweet (susceptible) and the accession 'PI 595201'(resistant). Plants of the generations P1, P2, F1, F2, BC11 e BC12 were inoculated with a Brazilian isolate of PRSV-W and were evaluated by recording symptoms. Genetic and phenotypic parameters of PRSV-W resistance were estimated and tests based on hypothesis of monogenic inheritance and maximum likelihood methods were performed. The additive component [a] of resistance was higher than the non-additive [d]. The estimates of the broad-sense heritability (0.80) and of narrow-sense heritability (0.67) indicated that the genetic variance was greater than the environmental, allowing higher genetic gains in selecting more resistant plants in segregating populations. The inheritance is more complex than a typical monogenic inheritance. The importance of the additive genetic effects in the expression of resistance to PRSV-W was evidenced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ESTIMATION theory , *GENOTYPE-environment interaction , *ECOLOGICAL genetics , *ENGINEERING design , *ECOLOGY - Abstract
Estimatives of the general combining ability (CGA) and specific combining ability (SCA) among eleven commercial maize hybrids were obtained in this study. Single-cross hybrids AS 1550, DK B214, DK B215, DK B330, Dow 2B150, Dow 8460, P 30F33, P 30F53, P 30P70, Penta and Premium Flex were intercrossed in a circulant diallel scheme with p=11 (eleven parents) and s=8 (crossed 8 to 8) to obtain 44 double hybrids. These genotypes were evaluated in randomized block design with three replications. Two experiments were carried out in Center-South Paraná State, in Guarapuava and Goioxim, Brazil. The yield, plant height and ear height were obtained and submitted to diallel analysis. There were significant differences between localities and between diallel hybrids for both traits. Significant differences were observed for localities x diallel hybrids interaction for grain yield. Significant differences were detected for GCA in all characteristics and for SCA only in yield. Parents Penta, P 30F53 and Dow 8460 were outstanding for CGA values in yield, and parent AS 1550 in plant height and ear height. The best hybrid combination was Penta x P 30F53, since it showed the highest yield, high SCA value and both parents presented the highest GCA estimative. The hybrid P 30F53 was parent of three among four of the most productive double hybrids. It is possible to obtain good populations from the commercial cultivars that were outstanding because of GCA and SCA estimatives in hybrid combinations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
