Stanford University Library has a robust digital library system called the Stanford Digital Repository. This repository holds a little under 500 TB of materials in preservation and online for researchers, capture of scholarly output, and digitized cultural heritage materials. These materials are managed across 90+ codebases serving a variety of functions from self-deposit web applications, to a nearly 10 year old parallel processing framework, to a digital repository assets publication mechanism leading into our Blacklight, Spotlight, and Geoblacklight applications – among other services and needs. At the core of this system is a Fedora 3 store. With Fedora 3 now end-of-lifed, and our system suffering from limited to no horizontal scalability options, we’re revisiting our system and architecture. We are writing it from the start with a goal to have data-forward, distributed microservices and some event-driven processing components. TACO, our new core management API, is the heart of this new architecture, and is currently being developed as a prototype. This talk will walk through the process of analysing our current system via a dataflows analysis; designing a new architecture for our digital library with a wide ranging set of requirements and users; prototyping a core component of our new architecture to be horizontally scalable as well as data & specification driven; then planning how to create ‘seams’ in our current system to migrate towards our new system in an evolutionary fashion instead of a turn-key migration.

Both digital repositories maintained by NTK (NRGL and IDR) are powered by the open source software Invenio. Its great flexibility allows us its continuous development and adaptation to our needs. This year we added several features that make it easier to work with the repositories - for example, we improved the search, presentation of records, and added export to various citation managers. Following the release of new version of Invenio, we also created a new freely available installation script, that facilitates the installation and basic configuration of the system to those interested in creating their own repository.

Náplní cesty byla účast na mezinárodním semináři Invenio User Group Workshop, který se konal 7.-9.5. 2012 ve Výpočetním centru CERNu v Ženevě. Workshop byl rozdělen do šesti tematických bloků, které vedli jednotliví vývojáři Invenia. Postupně předvedli celou práci se záznamy od jejich vložení do repozitáře, přes úpravy až po prezentaci uživatelům, poslední blok byl věnován systémové údržbě a způsobu vývoje nových komponent. Důležitou součástí workshopu byly také vzájemné diskuse všech účastníků. Výstupem z workshopu je mnoho nových praktických poznatků, které budou přímo využity při správě obou digitálních repozitářů NTK.

Účelem zahraniční cesty byla účast PhDr. Petry Pejšové a Mgr. Hany Vyčítalové na konferenci Digitálna knižnica 2012, která se konala od 16. dubna 2012 do 18. dubna 2012 na Slovensku v hotelu Družba v Jasné pod Chopkom. PhDr. Petra Pejšová zde 17. 4. 2012 přednesla příspěvek s názvem OpenGrey, ve kterém seznámila účastníky konference s evropskou databází šedé literatury, možnostmi zapojení do OpenGrey a procesu zapojení Národního úložiště šedé literatury do této databáze.

anglicky This thesis is focused on analyzing and assessing the current status and recent trends in open access institutional repositories in science and research in the UK, available via the WWW. Includes information on their overal condition, current trends, and provides basic statistical information based on their existing registers. The core work presents the results of the analysis and evaluation of selected characteristics. Attention is also given to new projects, integration of institutional repositories in higher local, national and international structures. The final section provides an overall assessment of lessons learned and specifies trends and perspectives of further development of institutional repositories in the UK.

Cílem příspěvku je představit digitální repozitář Národní úložiště šedé literatury (NUŠL) jako zdroj pro vyhledávání informací o obtížně dostupných dokumentech, které spadají do oblasti šedé literatury (tj. nepublikovaná či polopublikovaná literatura) a nebývají součástí běžných fondů knihoven. NUŠL spravuje Národní technická knihovna (NTK).NUŠL se zaměřuje na odbornou šedou literaturu především z oblasti vědy, výzkumu a vzdělávání. Spolupracujícími partnery NUŠL a hlavními zdroji šedé literatury z oblasti vědy a výzkumu jsou Akademie věd České republiky, veřejné výzkumné instituce, vysoké školy, knihovny a muzea. V příspěvku bude detailně představen obsah repozitáře, zajímavé typy dokumentů a především možnosti vyhledávání dokumentů v NUŠL. Centrální rozhraní NUŠL nabízí intuitivní vyhledávání ve sbírkách více institucí najednou a je hlavním přístupovým bodem k hledání šedé literatury v České republice. NUŠL svým zaměřením doplňuje klasické informační zdroje a měl by být součástí rešeršních služeb v českých knihovnách.

The paper tries to describe grey literature in the context of platforms and tools of the web 2.0. We can follow up that increasing trends in the scientific communication are e.g. microblogging, scientific blogging and there are also scientific social networks in the distribution cycle of grey literature. Except the examples of grey literature 2.0, the paper also discusses the problems of the promotion of grey literature and grey literature community through the social media.

The aim of this paper is to introduce new features and technologies in upcoming versions of the Invenio software suite. Invenio was originally developed at CERN (Eu- ropean Organization for Nuclear Research) and covers all aspects of digital library management or document repository on the web. We focus on describing improve- ments of full-text search using external ranking tools, multimedia management, cir- culation and holdings module, and new user interface built on top of new technology stack using a Python micro-framework, modern templating engine and powerful SQL toolkit.

This presentation about the National Repository of Grey Literature was intended for students of Czech University of Life Sciences Prague.

National Repository of Grey Literature (NRGL) was established within a project which was successfully completed in 2011. Since 2012, the operation of NRGL is part of the standard service of National Technical Library. The paper will summarize the activities, news and researched issues in 2012.

Příspěvek shrne problematiku budování institucionálních repozitářů, jejich význam pro paměťové instituce a poukáže na možné problémy, které s budováním souvisí. Repozitáře slouží především jako místa dlouhodobé archivace a zpřístupnění digitálních dokumentů, tedy i digitálního kulturního dědictví, nikoliv pouze krátkodobých či rychle zastarávajících informací. Vzhledem k proměně povahy nově vznikajících dokumentů v současné době je tedy žádoucí, aby se vznikem takovýchto digitálních archivů paměťové instituce začaly zabývat.

Novinkou letošního semináře bude panel expertů na téma „Zveřejňování šedé literatury - dostupnost, transparentnost, budoucnost?“. Panelové diskuse, kterou bude moderovat Mgr. Iveta Fürstová, se zúčastní Mgr. Lenka Maixnerová z Národní lékařské knihovny, PhDr. Václava Horčáková z Historického ústavu AV ČR, v.v.i. a Tomáš Pergler z Akademie výtvarných umění v Praze. Téma panelové diskuse koresponduje s tématem semináře a představí názory odborníků z různých institucí na aktuální otázky z oblasti zpřístupňování šedé literatury.

The aim of this paper is to introduce the problem concerning the threat to the data for the purposes of development and maintenance of institutional digital repositories. The paper points out to potential sources and targets of threat and security options. Therefore the goal is to raise awareness of stakeholders regarding the threatening situation. This is achieved by illustrative examples of threats that can be encountered in real situations and in particular by references to more sources of information concerning the topic.

Cílem příspěvku je představit vývoj a aktuální výsledky budování digitálního repositáře Národní úložiště šedé literatury (NUŠL), které vzniká v rámci projektu „Digitální knihovna pro šedou literaturu – funkční model a pilotní realizace“. Projekt NUŠL řeší Národní technická knihovna (NTK) ve spolupráci s VŠE v Praze s cílem zajistit centrální přístup k dokumentům šedé literatury (tj. nepublikované či polopublikované literatury) na národní úrovni. Hlavním úkolem NUŠL je sloužit jako centrální rozhraní pro vyhledávání a dlouhodobou archivaci šedé literatury, kde uživatel nalezne metadata s plnými texty, a tím podporovat vědu, výzkum a vzdělávání.

For retrieving, preserving and managing digital documents of gray literature and its metadata a sophisticated software system must be used. CDS Invenio is a software solution for the needs of NRGL – for the central repository, which collects and the grey literature and makes it accessible and for the co-working organizations, which produce the grey literature. Its complexity, flexibility and open-source solution ensure fulfilling of nearly all requirements that NRGL have for this system.
