Few data are available so far on the antibody-mediated immune response to anti-SARS-Cov2 vaccination in people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS) treated with disease-modifying treatments (DMTs), therefore this issue was explored in a real-life cohort of pwMS.Retrospective monocentric study on anti-spike protein antibody response in pwMS who had received vaccination for Sars-Cov2. Adverse events following vaccination were also recorded.One hundred and twenty pwMS were included: 83 females (69%); median age at vaccination 42 years (range 21-73); 112/120 patients (93%) were receiving DMTs at vaccination. Anti-spike protein IgG antibodies were detectable in 102/120 (85%) cases overall, being the proportion lower in pwMS receiving anti-CD20 antibodies (14/31, 45%) compared to non-depletive treatments (77/78, 99%), p 0.0001. Median anti-spike titre was lower in anti-CD20 antibodies and fingolimod-treated pwMS compared to those receiving other DMTs, and it correlated with anti-CD20 treatment duration (R - 0.93, p 0.0001) and with age at vaccination in pwMS not receiving depletive treatments (R - 0.25, p = 0.028). Baseline CD19+ cell count (where available) was higher in the responder group than in non-responders, p 0.0001. Two symptomatic COVID-19 infections were diagnosed over a median follow-up of 5 months (range 2-7); adverse events were aligned with the published literature.Antibody response to anti-COVID-19 vaccines was detected in most of the pwMS analysed, but frequency of responders was reduced in those receiving CD20 depleting therapies compared to other DMTs-treated pwMS. Investigations on cell-mediated immune response are needed to assess whether a protective immune response is elicited also in non-antibody responders.

The rehabilitation of the edentulous maxilla is a relatively common clinical problem and to submerge dental implants during the healing period is a major prerequisite to obtain implant osseointegration. It is believed that micromovement of implants, due to functional forces at the bone-implant interface during wound healing, could induce the formation of fibrous tissue rather than bone, leading to a clinical failure. In addition, the coverage of an implant is also thought necessary to prevent infection and epithelial down-growth. Usually, the second surgical procedure was performed after three months in the mandible and six months in the maxilla. Since no report is available on a new type of implants, a retrospective study was performed on fixtures inserted in upper jaw. A total of 205 two-piece implants (FMD srl, Rome, Italy) were inserted in maxilla, 111 in female and 94 in males. The median age was 59 ± 10 (min-max 24–80 years). Twenty four diabetic patients were enrolled, 141 had periodontal disease and 96 were smokers. Two surgeons performed operation. Fixtures were placed in 6 totally edentulous patient, 9 single missing teeth and 190 partially edentulous subjects. Twenty one implants were placed in post-extraction sockets; GBR was performed onto 26 fixtures and 3 were immediately loaded. There were 109 single crowns, 96 implants bearing 2 or greater bridges. Two implants were lost, survival rate = 99.02%. Among the studies variables immediate loaded implants on single tooth rehabilitations (p=0.03) have a worse clinical outcome. Then peri-implant bone resorption (i.e. delta IA J) was used to investigate SCR. Among the remaining 203 implants, 20 fixtures have a crestal bone resorption greater than 1.5 mm (SCR = 89.13). Statistical analysis demonstrated that diabetes (p=0.001) and periodontal disease (p=0.047) had a worse outcome. In conclusion FMD implants are reliable devices for oral rehabilitation with a very high SCR and SVR.

The platelets used in oral, maxillofacial and plastic surgery are generally grouped as concentrated platelet rich plasma. The general principle of production consists of a centrifugation, making it possible to eliminate red blood cells, then acellular plasma, to preserve only the concentrated platelets. Aim to evaluate the efficacy of a three session of injections of autologous platelet-derived growth factors for full-face rejuvenation including the perioral and periorbital regions; 16 patients female between 27 and 60 years of age, were admitted to facial rejuvenation procedure. All these patients showed mainly class II rhytides. Six patients had rejuvenation of only the perioral region (five patients had class II rhytides and the other patient had class III rhytides). Another five patients had rejuvenation of only the periorbital region (two patients with class I rhytides, the other three had class II rhytides). Approximately 0,2 cc of autologous platelet-derived growth factors was produced per tube; this activated suspension was then injected intradermally or subdermally below the perioral and periorbital regions through 30 and 27 gauge needles, respectively, as needed to achieve the most optimal correction of the rhytides with mainly a linear threading technique. All patients demonstrated some improvement. 92.88% of participants were satisfied or very satisfied with their treatment result. The investigator evaluation rates of acceptable effect (score of 2 or 3) were 76.65%. The results lasted approximately 6 months with a gradual decline to baseline. Autologous platelet-derived growth factors in one treatment session for three months can achieve effective full-face skin rejuvenation, with effects on both the epidermis and dermis.

In the cosmetic medical area facial rejuvenation with permanent or absorbable fillers requires not only biochemical and biological informations about the molecules used, but also insights into the ageing anatomy and physiology: This article reviews the results of 46 cases undergone to lip augmentation and perioral rejuvenation in the last 1 year. A total of 46 consecutive female patients, between 27 and 60 years of age, with type I and type II lips by Fulton classification were recruited to the study. In all patients both lips were treated. The product was a cross-linked hyaluronic acid (ALIAZIN(R) FL-LIP S IBSA-Lodi, Italy) injected in a single session. The aesthetic evaluation was performed at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months after injection. As to the injection technique the filler has been implanted withdrawing the needle while injecting along the lips margins. After 3 months, 87.88% of participants were satisfied or very satisfied with their treatment result. After 6, 9 and 12 months, 52.73%, 40.67% and 10.67% of participants, respectively, were satisfied or very satisfied. The investigator evaluation rates of acceptable effect (score of 2 or 3) were 96.65%, 40.43%, 28, 39 and 16.79% at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months, respectively. Fining results lasted approximately 5 months with a gradual decline to baseline. The procedure was very well tolerated with only few, mild adverse reactions that resolved spontaneously. In conclusion during first years of clinical use, crosslinked Hyaluronic Acid was proven to be reliable filler preferred by cosmetic doctors an effective and safe facial soft tissue expander and predictable treatment for lip augmentation.

Dental treatment performed in patients receiving continuous oral anticoagulant drug therapy is becoming increasingly common in dental offices. For these patients it is imperative to carry out careful anamnesis, as well as a multi professional clinical evaluation with regard to the risk and control of hemorrhagic or thromboembolic episodes. The aim of this study was to assess the haemostatic efficacy and safety of the topical use of Calcium sulfate (CaS) in the setting of dental surgery. Following the approval from of the Local Research Ethics Committee (CaS) as a haemostatic agent in Dentistry. No patient had wound infection and the healing process appeared to be normal. CaS is useful for the local hemostasis and wound healing in periodontal surgeries. In conclusion, the use of CaS controlled the bleeding from inside the extraction socket producing instantly a very good haemostasis.

The presence of excessive perioral hair in women is associated with psychological and emotional distress, and causes significant impairment of their quality of life. The aim of the present study is to show the efficacy of intense pulsed light (IPL) device in a mouse model. Thirty female, 6-8 weeks-old black-haired mice were selected. Mices were divided into five groups, each of six subjects, and were anaesthetized; the first five groups were only shaved with electric razor and waxing, while the other groups, after shaving of back, they were treated with the light of an intense pulsed light source device (590-1200 nm, spot size 20x50 mm-pulse duration 5-105 msec) (MED-LITE device, Dermal Medical, Bologna-Italy). All mices (Test group) received 12 sessions of treatment at 1 week interval. Hair counts and photographic evaluation of skin sites were made at baseline and at the last follow-up after the following time intervals: 4, 8, 12 weeks. All mices were evaluated after the following time intervals: 4, 8, 12 weeks. A statistically significant difference was present between hair reduction after treatment in control group vs. test (control vs. test) p-value = 0.08 after 4-8 and 12 weeks. In order to assess the involvement of the cardiopulmonary receptors in the regulation of the coronary circulation, changes in coronary resistance produced by the application of a -10 mmHg pressure to the lower body were studied in 6 healthy subjects and 6 patients with arterial hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy. The results show that the inhibition of the ventricular receptors significantly increases coronary resistance and that this reflex response is eliminated in hypertensive patients with ventricular hypertrophy. Total parenteral feeding reduced gastric secretions, but patients sometimes complain of pyrosis and acidity. The gastric secretion, gastrinaemia and insulinaemia of 96 patients subjected to TPN were measured. Results showed a nonpathological increase in gastrinaemia and acidity which might be related to the high levels of insulinaemia.

The use of F.E.S. in motor rehabilitation should be reserved for cases of central neurological lesions. F.E.S. tends to improve gait, reduce spasticity and improve the transfer of cortical information from the peripheral system. The treatment exploits the possibilities of reprogramming movement by developing new motor circuits and where possible restoring lost movements.
