LITERATURE reviews , *LAND reform , *PROPERTY rights , *SOCIAL skills , *EMINENT domain - Abstract
This article analyze how a group of people realized, in the mid-1960s, problems related to the way in which Brazilian territory was occupied and how, in a dictatorship, they created the ABRA to propose an agrarian reform as a solution. The evidence results from qualitative research that combined a literature review with interviews and questionnaires. The analysis shows that for almost fifty years this group tried to take advantage of windows of opportunities to propose legal mechanisms for regulating the right to land property (such as social function or obligation) and land redistribution (such as taxation or expropriations) to include the rural workers in national development. However, the expectations around these mechanisms triggered reactions that reduced the group's relative participation in decision-making. In developmentalism echoes, this analysis raises concerns about who, when and how can speak about the problems and solutions to conflicts over land and territory in the country.

The present study, detailed a survey of the academic debate and scientific trends regarding generational succession in agriculture. Hence this study is categorized under quantitative and qualitative bibliometric research. For this research, the Scopus database was accessed to identify scientific articles from publications between the years 2010 and 2021. The search, which included keywords like "successors" and "farm*", resulted in 57 relevant articles. For the study, eleven thematic categories were selected, viz., Factors that influence generational succession; Gender issues in generational succession; Educational aspects in succession; Coping strategies in relation to the future of rural properties and utilization of agricultural land; Succession planning; Issues related to the dairy farming activity and the presence of successors; The role of rural youth in the succession; Socioeconomic effects on rural properties from the presence of successors; Agricultural transfers to "new" farmers; Emotional and belonging aspects in generational transfer; and Relationships and perceptions of non-successors with respect to rural property and succession. However, the factors that affect generational renewal and gender issues in generational succession are the themes that recur most often in the research. Europe is in the forefront in terms of research on succession, and reveals new research pathways and is on the frontline for the development of public policies on generational succession in agriculture. Finally, the other emerging themes were observed to be those which dealt with the relationship that exists between the emotional aspects and succession, as well as agricultural transfers to "new" farmers. Debating the development of family farming demands the interpretation of multiple contexts. It was proposed to analyze the pentagon of capitals (human, social, physical, financial and natural) of family farmers inserted in the settlements of Bom Jardim and Facão, located in the municipality of Cáceres, Mato Grosso, based on the conception of rural development of settled family farming. For this, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 114 farmers from the settlements, in which the data were analyzed from the pentagon of capitals (human, social, physical, financial and natural). Multidimensional adversities were identified in the five capitals, antagonistic to the development of family farming. Overcoming the stagnation of settlements requires the organization of a set of specific policies, and/or facilitating access to existing programs, reinforcing the accumulation of capital from family farming to then achieve rural development. Starting in 2005, the National Colonization Institute (INC) generated a change in the focus of public policy; focusing its actions on the promotion of associative efforts in its most diverse forms, to promote social and economic integration of family farmers. By surveying of the trajectory of two groups of settlers, family cattle in Uruguayan coast, we sought to understand the internal processes of collective self-management of INC lands; particularly, in aspects to the management of the natural grassland as a resource of common use. The methodology was based on semi-structured interviews carried out with extension technicians and the farmers of the analysed groups. The analysis of the information shows that, in this type of venture, trust between the members is a key factor to achieve the objectives set by the group. Of the operation, the establishment and evolution from learning, of the operative and collective rules, which have a relevant incidence in the management of the common good, stand out. The social interaction and the involvement of the members in the actions of the collective is what sustains the continuity of the venture in common. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This assay aims to identify the elements that enable a sustainable rural development, from the model of rural development installed in Brazil in the 2000s and how this model impacts in the future of the peasant family agriculture at Ceará's semiarid, leading to autonomy, subordination or exclusion in relation to the capitalist way of production. The search was developed starting from the regionalization of the state of Ceará in Rural territories of identity. The research, of a descriptive and explanatory nature, contemplated five territories and six settlements of which we obtained information. Therefore, the survey is based on the bibliographic and field research, with the first one being part of the argumentative structure of the results. After the collect, the information was presented in tables and analyzed through the dialectical historical materialism. The results indicate that the model of rural development promotes the subordination and posteriorly the exclusion of the peasant family agriculture, following the logic of the dominant way of production that subordinates the other ways of production. Objective: To analyze ethnoagronomy as a discipline that re-values, rescues, and builds upon agroecological principles, knowledge, experiences, and productive practices of peasants and indigenous people, laying the foundations for rural development alternatives. Methodology: Hermeneutic in nature. Discussions on these topics with leading experts in the field aim to foster a discussion that enables a fresh perspective on the primary sector. Results: Discussions of the Green Revolution process promoted by the Mexican state introduced technological options distinct from the majority of productive strategies implemented by the producers. Alongside the neoliberal model, which has accentuated economic and social polarization over the years, agriculture has continued to experience a clear process of neglect and a departure from policies aimed at the primary sector. Worth noting, however, is the fact that a small group has been subsidized within this model. Conclusions: Given pressing national issues, including social and food crises, there is potential for generating dialogue and agreements, driven by both progressive governments and public educational institutions, to pave the way for a new productive scenario with social participation. Abstract: Financial illiteracy presents itself as an aggravating factor present in several contexts. Such implications take on more significant proportions when related to the female gender and in rural regions, where, historically, individuals with asymmetric access to information reside. In this sense, this objective study measures the level of financial literacy of rural women in the Ceará State in Brazil. Data collection was carried out through the application of questionnaires, adopting financial knowledge and financial behavior as proxies, considering grouping and discriminant statistical techniques as analysis methodology. This analysis allowed the formation of three groups: Low, Medium and High Level of Financial Literacy. The results demonstrated that the rural women surveyed had a low level of financial literacy. Such results endorse the need for strategies and public policies focused on rural women, making them effective and applied to their particularities. Given the gap that exists in this field of study, we also seek to encourage the development of future research in other rural spaces, outlining worrying profiles and solutions .

Abstract: The study aims to portray the situation of family farming establishments in the state of Mato Grosso. To this end, it was proposed as a general objective to describe the current scenario of family farming properties in the state based on data from the Agricultural Census surveyed by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) in 2017. family farming accounts for approximately 70% of rural establishments in the state, but not reaching 10% of the concentration of arable land. In conclusion, the 2017 IBGE data show the importance of family farming in Mato Grosso, with 69% of rural establishments belonging to this sector. The concentration of land, racial and gender inequalities, as well as the lack of access to credit and technical guidance, are obvious issues. The predominance of livestock, the limited use of sustainable agricultural practices and the low adoption of technology are points of attention. Dependence on family farming for socioeconomic development requires specific policies, especially focused on access to credit and technical guidance.

Resilience is a “reemerging concept” that has attracted the interest of scientists from different fields, authorities, and international organizations. This article aims to identify and analyze the scientific production on resilience in rural studies, through a bibliometric review. The analysis covers the following issues: number and chronology of publications, source of work, in addition to the most cited articles and authors. 148 publications in English were identified in the SCOPUS and Web of Science databases, until December 2020. The results demonstrate that publications on resilience in rural studies have experienced a significant increase in several international journals, since 2010. It was also observed that there is a domain academic background of researchers from the USA, Australia, and countries of the United Kingdom; however, China has also shown a significant growth trend in this area. The article ends by pointing out the importance of using such a theoretical lens in rural studies.

South Brazil produces colonial cheese based on Italian immigration recipes. This study characterized colonial cheese produced in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The sampling method was by conglomerate. A total of 293 rural producers were interviewed; they also provided cheeses for physicochemical and microbiologicanalyses. For the characterization of colonial cheese, parameters related to milk, processes, social aspects, physical aspects and ingredients were selected and cluster analysis was performed. Results showed that the colonial cheese is made with whole milk, rennet and salt, with a round shape, weighing an average of 1.22 kg, with an average maturation of 9.4 days, high moisture, fat, using raw or pasteurized milk. The recipe is familiar, passed down through generations and the sale is made directly to the consumer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

COOPERATIVE agriculture , *RURAL development , *TECHNICAL assistance , *MILITARY personnel , *LIVING conditions - Abstract
Agricultural cooperatives have long experience in offering technical assistance services to their members. This action, and the consequences arising from it, although potentially diverse and relevant, has not been sufficiently discussed by cooperatives, research institutes and companies that provide the service. This is a theoretical investigation, which aims to investigate the issue, based on the experiences of cooperatives in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Given the competitive context in which they find themselves, agricultural cooperatives need to provide economic responses at the same time that they are organizations that have the capacity to intervene in the social reality of the population; that is, agricultural cooperatives are a local act that fulfill functions in the promotion of better living conditions for their associates and are potential protagonists of rural development. The conclusion points out that considering the services of the technical assistance and rural extension departments as an ATER Cooperative would enable greater integration between the administrative, commercial and financial sectors of the cooperative and the collective development of the cooperative members. In 2006, the National Congress passed the Goat Law Nº 26.141, as part of a series of public policies that focused on the rural sector and, specifically, on family farming. The aim of this article is to analyze, from an anthropological perspective, the implementation of the Goat Law Nº 26.141, as a public policy, paying special attention to the diversity of actors and social relations involved in the process of its implementation in the Northeast of San Luis. Fragments of the ethnographic fieldwork carried out between 2019 and 2021 with the Unión de Productores/as Caprinos/as (Union of Goat Producers), an organization in northeastern San Luis, will be used for this study. First, the socio-productive strategies of the rural producers who are part of the organization will be studied. In the second section, the socio-historical context in which the Goat Law was enacted will be reviewed, taking into account the ways in which the agribusiness model was established in the country, and the characteristics adopted by rural development programs since the 1990s. Finally, the dynamics and modes of operation of the Goat Law will be studied in a situated manner. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
