This paper reports on the application of a near-infrared (NIR) imaging system for visualizing heat transfer dynamics from a bulk gadolinium (Gd) sample to the surrounding water during the magnetization/demagnetization process of the magnetocaloric effect (MCE). The suggested approach relied on the spectral variation in water absorption band at 1150 nm wavelength within the NIR spectrum. An experimental setup integrated a telecentric uniform-illumination system, a halogen lamp, and an NIR camera to enable real-time monitoring of a single magnetization and demagnetization cycle induced by an external magnetic field, which was generated by a permanent-magnet-based magnetic circuit. Two-dimensional absorbance images captured during this cycle clearly depicted the thermal energy generated by the MCE in water. Furthermore, an analysis of the thermal boundary layer and the quantification of heat transfer from Gd to water provided insights into the dynamics over time. These results indicated the potential of our NIR imaging techniques in optimizing thermal–fluid interactions within MCE systems, thereby improving the design and efficiency of magnetic refrigeration systems. Techniques for enhancing the signals arising from low-γ, insensitive (I) nuclei are central to solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance. One of the leading and best-established methods to sensitize these unreceptive species is Hartmann–Hahn cross polarization (HH-CP), a polarization transfer mechanism often executed under MAS. Herein, we explore the possibility of utilizing the 1H dipolar order created via adiabatic demagnetization in the rotating frame (ADRF), to enhance the unreceptive spins under MAS. It is found that an efficient polarization transfer via ADRF-CPMAS is not only possible but can exceed, at least in some instances involving plastic crystals, the efficiency of an optimized HH-CPMAS transfer. The experiment requires low radiofrequency nutation fields on both the 1H- and the I-spin channels, and displays unusual matching conditions that are reminiscent of the zero- and double-quantum matching conditions arising under CPMAS, albeit centered at zero frequency and demanding the simultaneous involvement of several spins. The origin of these multi-spin transfer processes is analytically derived and numerically simulated in predictions that compare well with experimental 13C and 15N results collected on model compounds at different spinning speeds. These derivations start from descriptions that depart from traditional thermodynamic arguments, and treat instead the ADRF processes in static and spinning solids on the basis of coherent evolutions. The predictions of these analytical derivations are corroborated by numerical simulations. Summary: Electric vehicles (EVs) have gained a forward approach for achieving the low carbon economy and green transportation. Switched reluctance (SR) motor‐based propulsion mechanisms have been popularly used for EVs due to the wide speed range capability. The conventional phase current regulation technique does not give the satisfactory reduction of torque ripple in SR motor drive, particularly for automotive applications. To overcome the issue, a frontend boost converter (FEBC) is proposed to realize the quick excitation and demagnetization. Initially, the problems associated with the conventional asymmetric half bridge converter are investigated at various levels of phase current. The various operating modes of proposed drive system with FEBC are explained in detail. The proposed FEBC has the significant benefit of being able to provide variable boosting voltages based on the dynamic behavior of the SR motor. The phase voltages are increased during the fast magnetization and demagnetization modes due to the inclusion of FEBC, and hence, quick magnetization and demagnetization have been achieved. The proposed FEBC drive system has been simulated through the Matlab Simulink toolbox. The experimental results are also carried out in order to validate the simulation results. To better clarify the reliability of redbed paleomagnetic datasets from the Tibetan Plateau and shape of the Qiangtang Terrane (QT) prior to the India-Asia collision, a combined paleomagnetic and detrital zircon U-Pb geochronologic study is conducted on the Upper Cretaceous Abushan Formation (Fm) redbeds, dated to be within 89.1-83.6 Ma, in the Anduo area. The tiltcorrected grand mean direction for 37 sites is Ds = 0.9°, Is = +36.4°, k = 43.6, α95 = 3.6°, which provides a paleopole at 78.2°N, 266.8°E (A95 = 3.6°), corresponding to a paleolatitude of 20.5° ± 3.6°N for the study area (32.3°N, 91.4°E). Reliable demagnetization curves, positive fold, and conglomerate tests support the interpretation that characteristic remanent magnetization directions recorded primary magnetizations carried by detrital hematite and did not suffer from the influence of distortional strains. Our paleomagnetic results indicate that the mean inclination observed from the southwest dipping limb (Is = +44.2°) is clearly steeper than that from the north dipping limb (Is = +34.2°). The results of syntectonic-sedimentation-correction and the fluvial gravel deposits present in the Abushan Fm redbeds sampled support the contention that the apparent inclination discrepancy is attributed to the syntectonic growth strata and that the paleomagnetic datasets observed from two limbs of folds are still reliable. Furthermore, reliable Late Cretaceous paleomagnetic datasets show that the shape of the QT west of the Eastern Himalaya Syntaxis (EHS) during the Late Cretaceous was similar to its present-day relatively E-W alignment, and that around the EHS, its shape changed from the Late Cretaceous NE-SW alignment to the present-day approximately NW-SE alignment. The development of magnetocaloric materials with a significantly enhanced volumetric cooling capability is highly desirable for the application of adiabatic demagnetization refrigerators in confined spatial environments. Here, the thermodynamic characteristics of a magnetically frustrated spin‐7/2 Gd9.33[SiO4]6O2 is presented, which exhibits strongly correlated spin disorder below ≈1.5 K. A quantitative model is proposed to describe the magnetization results by incorporating nearest‐neighbor Heisenberg antiferromagnetic and dipolar interactions. Remarkably, the recorded magnetocaloric responses are unprecedentedly large and applicable below 1.0 K. It is proposed that the S = 7/2 spin liquids serve as versatile platforms for investigating high‐performance magnetocaloric materials in the sub‐kelvin regime, particularly those exhibiting a superior cooling power per unit volume. Permanent Magnet-Assisted Synchronous Reluctance Machines (PMASynRM) provide a low-cost alternative to Surface PM Machines due to the use of relatively lower grades of rare-earth (RE) or RE-free magnets, as the performance degradation due to weaker magnets is compensated by the presence of reluctance torque. However, the weaker magnets suffer from a high risk of demagnetization, leading to unreliable motor operation. Using a blend of RE and RE-free magnets has the potential to overcome this issue. This paper proposes to blend different grades of various rare-earth (RE) and rare-earth-free (RE-free) magnets in six different combinations and utilizes them in two-layer and three-layer U-shaped PMASynRM topologies with both eight-pole and six-pole variations. The rotor of the various designs is then optimized using a differential evolution (DE) based optimization algorithm to obtain low-cost designs with reduced RE magnet volume and minimum demagnetization risk. The optimization of each design is also integrated with the evaluation of mechanical stresses in the rotor laminations so as to maintain the stresses below the material yield strength. Furthermore, the various performance metrics, such as toque–speed/power–speed characteristics, demagnetization, and efficiency maps, are evaluated for each of the optimized and mechanically feasible designs. A quantitative comparison of the various optimized designs is also obtained to highlight the various trade-offs. The results indicate the feasibility of meeting the baseline torque requirement across the entire speed range, even with a 100% reduction in RE magnet volume and less than 5% demagnetization risk, while achieving a cost reduction exceeding 50%. Moreover, the two-layer, eight-pole designs exhibit relatively higher performance, whereas the three-layer, eight-pole designs are found to be the most economical option. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Spin-based technologies demand the effective excitation and control of high-frequency spin waves in order to increase the operational speed of magnonic logic circuits. An available option for the high-frequency spin wave is the perpendicular standing spin waves (PSSWs) in ferromagnetic thin films. However, the practical utilization of a PSSW is still challenging due to a few unsolved critical issues such as its relatively low amplitude and simultaneous excitation of other PSSW modes. Here, efficient excitation and control of a first-order PSSW mode are demonstrated in Ni80Fe20 thin films using a double-laser-pulse scheme. Based upon our experimental and theoretical investigations, it is found that the precession amplitudes of the Kittel and PSSW modes show strong dependence on equivalent torques (i.e., the averaged torques during fast relaxation process after the second pulse excitation) applied to these two modes. Thus, selective excitation and amplification of the first-order PSSW mode can be realized by manipulating the equivalent torque, i.e., introducing a second laser pulse with an appropriate arrival time and laser fluence. Moreover, the spectral tuning of this single PSSW mode can be achieved by proportionately adjusting the laser fluence of two pump pulses. Nanocomposite permanent magnets are considered as a strong candidate for the next generation of high-performance permanent magnet materials due to their ultra-high theoretical magnetic energy product. In this paper, a nanocomposite theoretical model based on the shape anisotropy of the soft phase (Fe65Co35) is constructed to guide the improvement of coercivity, the lack of which has become a critical problem in improving the performance of Nd-Fe-B nanocomposites further. The results of micromagnetic simulation show that adding a shape anisotropic soft phase to nanocomposites can effectively improve coercivity, delay nucleation during the magnetization reversal process, and help obtain a demagnetization curve with high squareness. When the length size of the soft phase ds ≤ 21 nm and the aspect ratio of the soft phase I = 5 for the Nd2Fe14B/Fe65Co35 nanocomposites, almost square demagnetization curves can be obtained, particularly when ds = 21 nm, the size of the soft phase is 21 × 21 × 105 nm3, the content of the soft phase is 42.1 vol. %, and the Nd2Fe14B/Fe65Co35 nanocomposite achieves a maximum magnetic energy product of 94.4 MGOe. In addition, the results also show that, compared with the cubic nanocomposite model (I = 1), the larger size of the soft phase can be accommodated into the nanocomposites by the addition of shape anisotropy, on the premise of ensuring the soft–hard coupling effect. Permanent magnets based on ferrites are currently studied as possible alternatives, in several application areas, to rare-earth-based magnets to overcome the barriers of high costs, unavailability, and environmental impact. Their attractiveness lies in the large crystalline anisotropy, ensuring resistance to demagnetization, and the possibility of having their modest saturation magnetization enhanced through exchange-coupling with a compatible soft magnetic material of higher saturation magnetization. Using analytical calculations, a micromagnetic finite element model, and comparison with measurements on a produced sample, the conditions that give the highest possible maximum energy product are determined for ferrite-based exchange-coupled Zn0.2Fe2.8O4/SrFe12O19 soft/hard nanocomposite magnets. Two geometries are considered: a spherical core–shell geometry and a composite granular microstructure. Two sets of material parameters are considered for the granular structure, one from the literature and one obtained by fitting to the measured magnetization data. The results show that it is important to have a well-aligned easy axis of hard grains and that the optimal amount of the soft material depends on the alignment of the hard grains as well as their size, with smaller grains yielding larger (BH)max values. The core–shell model shows that the maximum (BH)max can be strongly enhanced, from ∼40 to ∼60 kJ/m3, by using a hard core diameter of <30 nm and a soft shell thickness of <7 nm. Nanoscale heterostructure design can control laser-induced heat dissipation and strain propagation, as well as their efficiency for driving magnetization precession. Here, we incorporate MgO layers into the experimental platform of metallic Pt-Cu-Ni heterostructures to block the propagation of hot electrons. We show via ultrafast x-ray diffraction the capability of our platform to control the spatio-temporal shape of the transient heat and strain. Time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr experiments with systematic tuning of the magnetization precession frequency showcase control of the magnetization dynamics in the Ni layer. Our experimental analysis highlights the role of quasi-static strain as a driver of precession when the magnetic material is rapidly heated via electrons. The effective magnetic field change originating from demagnetization partially compensates the change induced by quasi-static strain. The strain pulses can be shaped via the nanoscale heterostructure design to efficiently drive the precession, paving the way for opto-magneto-acoustic devices with low heat energy deposited in the magnetic layer. Craters on Mars are a window into Mars' past and the time they were emplaced. Because the crust is heated and shocked during impact, craters can demagnetize or magnetize the crust depending on the presence or absence of a dynamo field at the time of impact. This concept has been used to constrain dynamo timing. Here, we investigate magnetic anomalies associated with craters larger than 150 km. We find that most of those craters, independent of age, exhibit demagnetization signatures in the form of a central magnetic low. We demonstrate a statistically significant association between such signatures and craters, and hypothesize that the excavation of strongly magnetic crustal material may be an important contribution to the dominance of demagnetized craters. This finding implies that the simple presence or absence of crater demagnetization signatures is not a reliable indicator for the activity of the Martian dynamo during or after crater formation. We demonstrate the coherent optical control of magnetization precession in a thin Ni film by a second excitation pulse, which amplifies or attenuates the precession induced by a first pulse depending on the fluences of the pump-pulses and the pump-pump delay. This control goes beyond the conventional strategy, where the same mechanism drives the precession in-phase or out-of-phase. We balance the magneto-acoustic mechanism driven by quasi-static strain and the shape-anisotropy change triggered by laser-induced demagnetization. These mechanisms tilt the transient effective magnetic field in opposite directions in the case of negative magneto-elastic coupling ( b 1 < 0). Interface of core-shell Co-CoO nanostructure exhibits exchange bias (EB) phenomenon which arises due to the competition between ferromagnetic (FM) and antiferromagnetic (AFM) order at the interface. Here, in this manuscript, we study core-shell Co-CoO nanostructure and report an approach for tuning the EB field ( H E ) and coercivity ( H C ) via controlling interparticle separation which leads to variable interactions. The core-shell Co-CoO structure has been prepared in a conventional sol-gel route. Further, a variable amorphous non-magnetic silica (SiO 2 ) shell is coated over the nanoparticles via typical chemical synthesis to control the interparticle interaction. Analysis of powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) data and transmission electron microscope (TEM) images confirms creation of SiO 2 -coated Co-CoO with average particle size ≈ 18 nm. Studies on isothermal remanence magnetization (IRM) and dc demagnetization (DCD) indicate that the dipolar interaction among the nanoparticles varies inversely with interparticle separation. With increase in SiO 2 coating thickness, i.e., decrease in interparticle interactions, H E and H C decrease monotonically. By pressure demagnetization, take iron as an example, we mean either that, given an external magnetic field under a certain temperature, the magnetization becomes weaker as the pressure increases, which can be referred to as pressure demagnetization during magnetization, or that when external field is dropped to zero, the iron has residual magnetization or remanence, and the residual magnetization becomes weaker as the pressure increases as well, which can be referred to as pressure demagnetization in remanence. In order to account for the pressure demagnetization, we demonstrate that, though magnetic work has two equivalent forms in electromagnetism, only one form is proper in thermodynamics in general. The optical intersite spin transfer (OISTR) effect was recently verified in Fe50Ni50 using extreme ultraviolet magneto-optical Kerr measurements. However, one of the main experimental signatures analyzed in this work, namely a magnetic moment increase at a specific energy in Ni, was subsequently found also in pure Ni, where no transfer from one element to another is possible. Hence, it is a much-discussed issue whether OISTR in FeNi alloys is real and whether it can be verified experimentally or not. Here, we present a comparative study of spin transfer in Fe50Ni50, Fe19Ni81 and pure Ni. We conclusively show that an increase in the magneto-optical signal is indeed insufficient to verify OISTR. However, we also show how an extended data analysis overcomes this problem and allows to unambiguously identify spin transfer effects. Concomitantly, our work solves the long-standing riddle about the origin of delayed demagnetization behavior of Ni in FeNi alloys. Optical intersite spin transfer (OISTR), which is driven by an ultrafast optical excitation, was recently found in several materials, but there is some disagreement over how this phenomenon can be observed experimentally. The utilization of spintronic terahertz (THz) emitters has a significant influence on broadband coherent spectroscopy and imaging at THz frequencies. By using femtosecond light to irradiate the spintronic heterostructures, spin currents from the ultrafast demagnetization effect can be transformed into charge currents through the inverse spin Hall effect, leading to the emission of THz waves. In this work, through the incorporation of sequential and inverse deposition of W‐Co20Fe60B20‐Pt heterostructure films, control is gained over the spin currents and THz waveforms, enabling it to achieve a 180° phase difference across a broad frequency spectrum while efficiently radiating THz waves. This, in turn, allows it to control the spatial phase of THz radiation. To test the device's capabilities, lithography‐based devices capable of focusing, producing vortexes, and dividing beams are manufactured. This investigation aims to advance the development of THz pulse sources while providing essential support for cutting‐edge technologies such as THz spectroscopy, high‐resolution imaging, and high‐speed communications. Nanocomposite Pr9.5Fe84−xB6.5Tix(x=1, 2, 3, 4) permanent magnetic alloys are prepared by the melt‐spinning technique with wheel speed ranging from 21 to 33 ms−1. X‐ray diffraction results show that the as‐spun ribbon is rich of soft α‐Fe, hard Pr2Fe14B magnetic phases, and no other metastable phases are found in our alloy ribbon. Initial magnetization curves reveal that the coercivity mechanism of the ribbons vary with the content of Ti. For x = 2, coercivity is mainly determined by pure pinning; while for x = 1, 3, and 4, it is mainly controlled by the mixture of nucleation of domain and localized pinning at grain boundaries. The coercivity value of 1026 kA m−1, the highest value reported so far, is mainly generated from a pure pinning mechanism in the ribbon with x = 2. The recoil permeability shows a minimum value range from 2.508×10−4 to 1.123×10−4TkAm−1 for x = 2 alloy, suggesting strong exchange coupling between the magnetic grains and then leading to the concurrent reversal of soft and hard phase grains during the demagnetization process. The Henkel plots demonstrate only exchange interaction for x = 1 and exchange interaction with slightly magnetostatic interaction for x = 2, 3, and 4. This paper presents an analysis of demagnetization of an outer rotor type brushless DC (BLDC) motor with a permanent magnet (PM) overhang structure. The proposed model converts the operating points of PM to consider such a three-dimensional (3D) structure in two dimensions (2D). In addition, the rotor yoke thickness of the proposed model is increased to consider the housing rotor. Ferrite PMs require demagnetization analysis owing to their decreasing coercivity at lower temperatures compared with rare-earth PMs. Hence, demagnetization analysis is conducted using a proposed model while considering, the PM overhang structure. Variable flux memory machines (VFMMs) have become a research hotspot due to their adjustable air-gap flux with the employment of low coercive force (LCF) permanent magnets (PMs). Series hybrid magnet VFMMs (SHM-VFMMs) utilizing series-magnetic-circuit high coercive force (HCF) and LCF PMs are extensively investigated due to their excellent unintentional demagnetization (UD) withstand capability. Nevertheless, the existing researches still focus on the UD of LCF PMs under heavy load operation, and the remagnetization issue remains unreported. Therefore, in this paper, the over-load unintentional remagnetization (UR) effect of the a dual-layer-SHM-VFMM (DLSHM-VFMM) is first revealed, and its mechanism is investigated and analyzed in depth based on finite element (FE) analyses. PM enable PMSMs to have higher torque-density and power-density, however the machine performance is closely related to its load characteristics. When the armature excitation does not match the load characteristics of the PM and machine, it can lead to demagnetization and performance degradation. By comparing and studying the IPMSM's and SPMSM's load characteristics, a more reasonable machine topology of components such as PM can be obtained, and high-performance machines can be designed more efficiently. Based on the material characteristics of the PM, the armature reaction law of different machines and the demagnetization law of the PM at different current angles were analyzed. There are different magnetic field distribution patterns in IPMSM and SPMSM, and their different load characteristics are compared to study the methods for improving the anti-demagnetization ability of PMs based on different machine structures. Due to the narrow working space of an in-wheel motor, the heat generated by the motor loss is difficult to dissipate. This makes it easier for the in-wheel motor to demagnetize the permanent magnet due to the mega-temperature, which affects the output efficiency. To solve this problem, an external rotor hub motor is studied. First, in accordance with the theory of magnetic field modulation, the in-wheel motor to be studied is designed. By analyzing the electromagnetic characteristics of the motor, the correctness of the motor design is verified, and the losses of the motor under different working conditions are calculated. To acquire a more rigorous temperature increase record, the magnetic-thermal bidirectional coupling method is utilized to analyze the temperature field under different load conditions. The mechanism of the demagnetization of permanent magnets is analyzed, and demagnetization at different temperatures is obtained by magneto-thermal two-way coupling. Research shows that when the motor is overloaded for a long time, the temperature can reach a maximum of 220 °C. At this temperature, the permanent magnet undergoes irreversible demagnetization, which results in a 93.44% decrease in torque. The extreme environmental issues and the resulting need to save energy have turned attention to the electrification of energy applications. One of the key components involved in energy efficiency improvements is the appropriate conception and manufacturing of electric machines. This paper overviews the electromagnetic analysis governing the behavior of permanent magnets that enable substantial efficiency gains in recent electric machine developments. Particular emphasis is given to modeling the properties and losses developed in permanent magnets in emerging high speed applications. In addition, the investigation of properties and harmonic losses related to ferromagnetic materials constituting the machine magnetic circuits are equally analyzed and discussed. The experimental validation of the implemented methodologies and developed models with respect to the obtained precision is reported. The introduction of mixed numerical techniques based on the finite element method intended to appropriately represent the different physical phenomena encountered is outlined and discussed. To give timely and accurate diagnosis in the early stage of demagnetization failure for effective control and treatment, based on wavelet packet analysis, principal component analysis (PCA) dimensionality reduction, and least squares support vector machine(LSSVM), the extraction of features and the classification of demagnetization faults are completed. Since it is difficult to collect real data sets of demagnetization faults in practice, a two-dimensional finite element simulation model of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) under uniform demagnetization and partial demagnetization faults is established based on the Maxwell simulation platform. The wavelet packet analysis is used to extract the demagnetization feature of the A-phase current of the PMSM. Based on PCA dimensionality reduction, the dimensionality reduction of fault features is realized. The LSSVM is used to identify the fault and complete the fault classification. Studies of light-induced demagnetization started with the experiment performed by Beaupaire et al. on Ni. Here, we present theoretical predictions for X-ray induced demagnetization of nickel, with X-ray photon energies tuned to its M 3 and L 3 absorption edges. We show that the specific feature in the density of states in the d-band of Ni, i.e., a sharp peak located just above the Fermi level, strongly influences the change of the predicted magnetic signal, making it stronger than in the previously studied case of X-ray demagnetized cobalt. It impacts also the value of Curie temperature for Ni. We believe that this finding will inspire dedicated experiments investigating magnetic processes in X-ray irradiated nickel and cobalt. Recent advances in electrochemical methods promise a more sustainable recycling of rare earth elements (REEs) from discarded NdFeB permanent magnets. The demand for NdFeB magnets for clean energy applications is rapidly increasing, motivating recycling efforts to diversify REE supply. The main electrochemical steps include the selective dissolution of REE-rich phases at the anode and the reduction of REE ions at the cathode. Pretreatment with demagnetization, mechanical size reduction, and leaching contributes to the release and concentration of REEs. Thermal demagnetization and mechanical crushing make the magnets brittle and improve the penetration of leaching agents. Acid leaching dissolves the REEs, but also dissolves the iron. To facilitate the extraction of REEs at high temperatures, molten salt electrolytes such as chlorides are used, while ionic liquids allow extraction under milder conditions, but with the caveat of possible decomposition during the process. Aqueous solutions have been most thoroughly investigated due to their versatility and affordability. Fluoride-based molten salt electrolytes effectively dissolve RREs and provide a stable environment for hightemperature electrodeposition, improving the efficiency and sustainability of rare earth element recovery. To isolate highpurity REE oxides and metals, additional processing is required using techniques such as solvent extraction, selective precipitation, and electroseparation. Key factors for optimal electrochemical recycling are maximizing selectivity for REEs, minimizing energy consumption and waste generation, and simplifying integration. To prevent fossil resources from being depleted and protect the natural balance, renewable resources come to the forefront as an alternative to fossil resources. Wind energy resources, among the renewable energy resources, are important in terms of ensuring the reliability of energy and the use of their resources. Generators are the most important components for the conversion of wind power. Permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSGs) are preferred in wind turbines since they have high efficiency and high volume/torque densities, thereby optimization of the PMSGs is an important topic for the wind energy community. On the one hand, these machines can cause problems due to overheating and mechanical friction during their long-time operation. To identify the performance lack of the machines due to the de-magnetization faults, systematic work has been performed. When a magnet of a PMSG is de-magnetized at different rates (i.e. 33%, 50%, and 100%), we have explored the artifacts in the electric generation. Besides, the torque performances of the generator at rated load are examined and the flux density distributions are revealed. A detailed magnetic mineralogy and archaeomagnetic study was carried out on recently discovered domestic hearths and burned floors at the Chak Pet archaeological settlement (Tamaulipas, Mexico). The study aimed to obtain reliable absolute chronological constraints on the early development of Huastecs during the Formative period. Oriented hand samples corresponded to four domestic hearths and one burned floor. Continuous thermomagnetic curves revealed mostly irreversible behavior, while titanomagnetites, titanomaghemites, and goethites are assumed to carry the remanent magnetization. In total, 87 specimens were subjected to stepwise demagnetization of natural remanent magnetization using an alternating field procedure. Characteristic remanent magnetization directions were obtained for 29 samples of two hearths and one burned floor. No single, technically acceptable paleointensity determination was obtained. The new archaeomagnetic age intervals for Chak Pet allow locating the origin of this settlement at the Gulf of Mexico within the Middle Formative (900–600 BCE) continuing until the Late Formative period (350–100 BCE). New archaeomagnetic ages are in accordance with the diagnostic pottery analysis. Dated archaeological elements are associated with both ceramic types and different sets of burials, providing a reliable tool to calibrate their chronological and stratigraphic positions. The time-dependent decrease of the magnetic polarization of magnet materials in the presence of an opposing field is well known as the magnetic viscosity or magnetic aftereffect. In previous studies, magnetic viscosity was usually measured in fields when in the vicinity of coercivity H cJ , and this was conducted in order to understand the coercivity mechanism in magnetic materials. In this study, the magnetic viscosity of commercial FeNdB magnets is determined at opposing fields weaker than H cJ and at different temperatures in the range from 303 to 433 K (i.e., from 30 to 160 °C) by means of a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). As a result, the parameter S v , which describes the magnetic viscosity in the material, was found to increase with increases in the opposing field. Furthermore, both the parameter S v and its dependence on the temperature were found to correlate with the coercivity H cJ of the material. Also, a difference with regard to the parameter S v for the materials measured in this study with similar magnetic properties, but which had undergone different types of processing, could not be found. Knowledge of the field- and temperature-dependent behavior of the magnetic viscosity of FeNdB magnets allows for better estimations over the lifetime of a component under operating conditions with respect to the magnetic losses in FeNdB magnets that are used in electric components. Geometry-induced domain wall pinning has been studied in heterostructure with soft magnet Fe3Pt and hard magnet FePt. It is demonstrated that the domain wall is pinned at the interface region of the Fe3Pt/FePt heterostructure under a small current field owing to the spin-transfer torque. The pinning of the domain wall is strongly dependent on the geometry of both soft and hard magnets. The thickness of the heterostructure Fe3Pt/FePt has an important influence on the pinning of the domain wall, which is caused by the combined effects of demagnetization, exchange coupling, and anisotropy. Moreover, with an increase in the width of the hard magnet FePt, the current of the pinning domain wall increases. With an increase in the width of the soft magnet, Fe3Pt, the pinning current decreased to a minimum value and then increased. Nanocomposite permanent magnets have a high theoretical magnetic energy product [(BH)max], but when manufacturing bulk magnets, there are currently no encouraging results, thus new theoretical models are still needed as guidance. In this paper, the anisotropic-shaped soft-magnetic-phase is introduced into the composite model through micromagnetic simulation. The Nd2Fe14B/Fe65Co35 nanocomposites with anisotropic-shaped soft-magnetic-phase can obtain a theoretical (BH)max of 93.9 MGOe, which is 22% higher than the model with cubic soft-magnetic-phase with similar soft-magnetic-phase content. An approximate vortex state coordinated distribution of the anisotropic-shaped soft-magnetic-phases in nanocomposites during the magnetization reversal can make the energy distribution of magnetic interaction more uniform. Thus, the anisotropic-shaped soft-magnetic-phases can delay nucleation during demagnetization, and improve the squareness of the demagnetization curve, and significantly increase the (BH)max. We demonstrate that a spintronic terahertz (THz) emitter can be driven by a chirped-pulse beating scheme to generate narrowband THz pulses, with continuous tuning of the frequency and linewidth by simply adjusting the laser chirp and/or the time delay between chirped pulses. As supported by model calculations, temporal shaping of the drive laser pulses can be exploited to manipulate the ultrafast demagnetization dynamics in the thin-film emitter, modulating the spin-polarized current in the ferromagnetic layer to access multi-cycle THz emission. Using a regenerative amplifier laser system with 50 fs transform-limited pulses chirped to 6 ps, we demonstrate narrowband THz generation over a frequency range from 0.4 to 2.3 THz, in addition to linewidths down to 40 GHz using 12 ps chirped pulses. Our proof-of-concept results pave the way to future narrowband THz sources with subgigahertz linewidth and center frequencies continuously tunable from 0.1 to 30 THz. By combining with the advantageous properties of spintronic THz emitters, from straightforward implementation to flexible polarization control, these sources open up opportunities for narrowband applications over the entire THz spectral range. A 50% decrease in the magneto-optical Kerr effect is observed in the experiment on subpicosecond laser-induced demagnetization of the one-dimensional all-nickel magnetoplasmonic crystal. The femtosecond pulse energy density is comparable to that required to achieve similar values in thin films. Numerical calculations show that such a decrease is not governed by the uniform reduction of surface magnetization, but is the result of the appearance of demagnetized and non-demagnetized areas of the surface. Numerous paleomagnetic studies attribute the magnetization preserved within Apollo samples to an ancient dynamo. However, other works propose that lunar rocks were instead magnetized by either transient impact‐related magnetic fields on the Moon or by the return spacecraft. To test whether lunar samples could have been magnetized during return to Earth, sample handling, or transport, we exposed lunar rocks to 5–10 mT fields for varying durations. We then determined how easily these magnetic overprints could be removed and how paleointensity estimates are affected by the overprints and their removal. We found that magnetic overprints were cleaned by alternating field (AF) demagnetization to ∼10–30 mT for nearly all samples and that acceptable paleointensities may be obtained from higher AF levels. Therefore, high coercivity (>30 mT) magnetizations observed within lunar rocks are generally not magnetic contamination and were initially acquired on the Moon. However, exposure to strong magnetic fields such as those produced by spacecraft electronics or magnets can partially remagnetize rocks. We conducted a series of experiments wherein we intentionally exposed various rocks from the Moon to strong magnetic fields to (a) see how easily magnetic contamination could be removed and (b) understand how the contamination and secondary effects related to its removal could skew our interpretation of ancient lunar magnetic field intensities. We found that, in nearly all cases, techniques commonly used by rock magnetism specialists were able to successfully remove magnetic contamination without sacrificing accuracy in determining the intensity of ancient lunar magnetic fields from magnetically uncontaminated portions of rocks. Therefore, we conclude that much of the magnetization observed in lunar rocks is natural in origin and was acquired on the Moon. From portable electronics to high-performance computing, the requirement for miniaturized and high-efficiency power supply is ever-increasing. Soft magnetic material with higher resistivity and moderate anisotropy field can be considered as a promising candidate as core materials for high-frequency integrated magnetic passives leading to such on-chip power supply devices. Here, in-plane magnetic orientation (φ )dependent ultrafast magnetization dynamics of electrodeposited cobalt phosphorus (CoP) alloy are investigated with partial demagnetization within few hundreds of femtoseconds (fs) followed by fast and slow relaxation in relatively longer timescale. The precession frequency extracted from the magnetization precession shows dominant two-fold anisotropy superposed with a moderate four-fold anisotropy, whereas the Gilbert damping coefficient reveals a four-fold anisotropy as a function of φ . On the contrary, the ultrafast demagnetization is found to be nearly isotropic with φ . We can speculate that spin–orbit coupling (SOC) plays a major role in these anisotropic precessional dynamics but for highly non-equilibrium dynamics, the role of anisotropic SOC is negligible for ultrafast spin-flip scattering process. Such detailed studies of ultrafast spin dynamics revealing important dynamical properties will underpin potential applications in high-frequency integrated magnetic passives for future monolithic power supply on-chip. We demonstrate a spectral shift in the peak frequency of terahertz (THz) emission by ultrafast laser-induced demagnetization in the Fe20Ni80 (Py) film. Experimentally, red spectral shifts of the THz emission are achieved by increasing the laser fluence or decreasing the Curie temperature of the Py film. Based on the microscopic three-temperature model, it is found that such redshifts are attributed by the slowing down of laser induced demagnetization processes in the Py film. The results not only enrich our understanding of THz emission introduced by ultrafast laser-induced demagnetization but also provide a practical way to detect the timescale of laser-induced ultrafast demagnetization dynamics. Burnt materials are very common in the archaeological record. Their identification and the reconstruction of their firing history are crucial for reliable archaeological interpretations. Commonly used methods are limited in their ability to identify and estimate heating temperatures below ~500⁰C and cannot reconstruct the orientation in which these materials were burnt. Stepwise thermal demagnetization is widely used in archaeomagnetism, but its use for identifying burnt materials and reconstructing paleotemperatures requires further experimental verification. Here we present an experimental test that has indicated that this method is useful for identifying the firing of mud bricks to 190⁰C or higher. Application of the method to oriented samples also enables reconstruction of the position in which they cooled down. Our algorithm for interpreting thermal demagnetization results was tested on 49 miniature sun-dried "mud bricks", 46 of which were heated to a range of temperatures between 100⁰C to 700⁰C under a controlled magnetic field and three "bricks" which were not heated and used as a control group. The results enabled distinguishing between unheated material and material heated to at least 190⁰C and accurately recovering the minimum heating temperature of the latter. Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) on the same materials demonstrated how the two methods complement each other. We implemented the thermal demagnetization method on burnt materials from an Iron Age structure at Tell es-Safi/Gath (central Israel), which led to a revision of the previously published understanding of this archaeological context. We demonstrated that the conflagration occurred within the structure, and not only in its vicinity as previously suggested. We also showed that a previously published hypothesis that bricks were fired in a kiln prior to construction is very unlikely. Direct-torque-control-driven permanent magnet synchronous machines eliminate the need for a position sensor while providing improved torque dynamics. However, the structure, regulation principle and nature of compensation of hysteresis-based controllers used in direct torque control impacts performance under faulty operating conditions. This paper analyzes the reaction of direct torque control to the presence of various faults that occur in permanent magnet synchronous machines. The analysis presented reveals that the direct torque control injects a negative sequence voltage and manipulates the torque angle to meet the control objectives when a fault occurs. The co-simulation of finite element analysis and a multi-physic circuit simulator is used to validate the response of the hysteresis-based controller to the machine health. The results indicate that the hysteresis comparators have the ability to mask the impact of the faults in the direct-torque-control-driven permanent magnet synchronous machines. Understanding of the laser-induced ultrafast demagnetization dynamics is one of the most challenging and hot topics in magnetism research due to its potential applications in magnetic storage devices and the field of spintronics. Recently, a laser-induced switching of ferromagnetism, driven by a disorder–order transition on FeAl thin films, has been experimentally demonstrated. The switching of ferromagnetic ordering by ultrafast laser pulses in FeAl thin films may open new possible applications of this material such as magnetic data storage and manipulation. Since the speed of the magnetic switching of magnetic states in thin films is one of the critical parameters for these applications, here we used time resolved magneto-optical Kerr measurements to investigate the demagnetization dynamics of Fe 60 Al 40 thin films at room temperature. We have for the first time observed a clear transition from one-step dynamics (type I) to two-step (type II) dynamics in the same material by increasing pump laser fluence. This experimental observation may give a strong confirmation that the ultrafast demagnetization process can be treated as a thermal process and is driven by the difference between temperatures of the electron and spin systems. Recently developed permanent magnets, featuring specially engineered microstructures of inhomogeneous magnetic phases, are being considered as cost-effective alternatives to homogeneous single-main-phase hard magnets composed of Nd2Fe14B, without compromising performance. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive examination of a core–shell sphere cluster model of Ce-substituted inhomogeneous Nd2-δCeδFe14B phases versus homogeneous magnetic phases, utilizing finite-element micromagnetic simulation and machine learning methods. This involved a meticulous, sphere-by-sphere analysis of individual demagnetization curves calculated from the cluster model. The grain-by-grain analyses unveiled that these individual demagnetization curves can elucidate the overall magnetization reversal in terms of the nucleation and coercive fields for each sphere. Furthermore, it was observed that Nd-rich spheres exhibited much broader ranges of nucleation and coercive field distributions, while Nd-lean spheres showed relatively narrower ranges. To identify the key parameter responsible for the notable differences in the nucleation fields, we constructed a machine learning regression model. The model utilized numerous hyperparameter sets, optimized through the very fast simulated annealing algorithm, to ensure reliable training. Using the kernel SHapley Additive eXplanation (SHAP) technique, we inferred that stray fields among the 11 parameters were closely related to coercivity. We further substantiated the machine learning models' inference by establishing an analytical model based on the eigenvalue problem in classical micromagnetic theory. Our grain-by-grain interpretation can guide the optimal design of granular hard magnets from Nd2Fe14B and other abundant rare earth transition elements, focusing on extraordinary performance through the careful adjustment of microstructures and elemental compositions. In this paper, it is shown that the static magnetic signature of a propulsor belonging to a ghost ship, whose hull is made of fiberglass, can be calculated by regarding it as a composite ferromagnetic medium. The calculation of the magnetic signature in the static regime is carried out using finite-element method simulations and according to a simple analytical model based on the concepts of volume averaged magnetization arising from a source magnetic field, volume averaged permeability, surface magnetic charges, and the demagnetization tensor applied to a composite magnetic medium. Using targeted simulations, it is demonstrated that the magnetostatic field of demagnetizing nature forming inside the propulsor almost cancels the contribution of the volume averaged magnetization. From the interplay between the numerical simulations and the analytical model, the elements of the demagnetization tensor in the region filled by the propulsor are locally calculated, and their role in determining the localization effects of the magnetic signature is discussed. By replacing the original ferromagnetic materials with weakly ferromagnetic ones, it is shown that, in the underwater region outside the propulsor, the magnetic signature drop is 64%. This analysis suggests an experimental way to use a simple passive method to minimize the magnetic signature of a propulsor as an alternative to more complex and time-consuming methods, such as the deperming and degaussing methods, widely employed to reduce the magnetic signature of ships and underwater objects in military applications. Grain boundary diffusion (GBD) process is an effective method to fabricate high-coercive Nd-Fe-B magnets with less consumption of heavy rare earth (HRE). By this approach, HRE-rich shell forms around the Nd2Fe14B grain, which can hinder the magnetic reversal starting at the edge of the grains and enhance the coercivity of whole magnet. Recently, an anti-core–shell structure was observed in the HRE diffused magnets after over-saturated diffusion, where the HRE concentration in the core is even higher than that in the shell. In this work, the effects of the anti-core–shell structure on the magnetization reversal and magnetic properties of diffused magnet have been clarified by micromagnetic simulations. Three-dimension models were established to analyze the demagnetization process. The results indicate that the anti-core–shell structure leads to a large stray field, which will accelerate the magnetization reversal of the whole magnet. As a result, the beneficial effect of HRE GBD on the coercivity has been reduced. Combined with the existing experimental results, the formation of anti-core–shell structure should be avoided during diffusion. Hence, appropriate diffusion time and diffusion source dosage should be selected for GBD process in order to obtain high-performance products and efficiently use the HRE resources. This paper investigates the irreversible demagnetization (ID) of a large capacity line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor (LSPMSM) considering influence of permanent magnets' (PMs) temperature. The phenomenon of ID occurs on the pull-in stage and close to the cusp of magnet on the direct-axis direction. The PMs' temperature causes the demagnetization curve to move down and the knee point to shift up. The extensive area ID of magnet will lead to pulling in synchronism failure and operation at the asynchronous state. Based on the magnetic gear effect, the field-modulated permanent-magnet machine (FMPMM) can realize the unequal pole design of the rotor PM field and the stator armature magnetic field. With the advantages of high torque density and high efficiency, the FMPMM has been widely studied in low-speed direct-drive applications. As a kind of machine excited by PMs, the performance of the FMPMM was affected by the demagnetization state. However, the method for establishing the FMPMM demagnetization model based on a finite element analysis (FEA) presented some problems, including tedious repeated modeling work and long calculation time-consuming under fine subdivision. Therefore, in this paper, a six-phase surface-mounted FMPMM was taken as an example, and an equivalent magnetic network (EMN) model was proposed for evaluating the machine performance under demagnetization. In order to realize the rapid establishing EMN models under diverse demagnetization types, the variable coercivity of PM was introduced. Furthermore, for the purpose of improving the calculation accuracy and shortening the calculation time, the least square method was used in fitting and analyzing the discrete results. Then, in order to verify the validity of the proposed EMN model, a prototype was fabricated and a testing platform was built. The air-gap flux density and the no-load back EMF obtained by the FEA, the proposed EMN model, and the experimental testing were compared. The results showed that the proposed EMN model can realize the rapid modeling and accurate analysis of the six-phase surface-mounted FMPMM under diverse demagnetization types. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Demagnetizing effects and internal stress are difficult to distinguish in natural magnetite samples, but quantitative stress estimates can provide valuable information about microstructure formation, surface oxidation, impacts, tectonic stresses, or interface properties in exsolution structures. Quantifying demagnetizing effects informs about magnetite particle shape, magnetostatic interaction, or anisotropic texture. Here, we establish an improved measurement workflow to separate demagnetizing effects from internal stress for natural magnetite. The method is based on temperature‐dependent hysteresis measurements, and for natural samples require accurate estimates of Curie temperature and temperature‐dependent saturation magnetization to ensure that near‐end‐member magnetite is the dominant magnetic mineral, and to calibrate the temperature‐dependent scaled reversible work (SRW). SRW is the fundamental quantity to determine stress and demagnetizing factor. The improved SRW method is applied to three natural samples with different stress histories where it proves that large magnetite crystals in the metamorphosed Modum complex (Norway) have low internal stress (<100 MPa), while in highly exsolved magnetite‐ilmenite intergrowths from Taberg (Sweden) and Bushveld (South Africa) the magnetite component is highly stressed (>230 MPa). This confirms experimentally that interface strain in complex microstructures due to spinodal decomposition and partial oxidation creates large average internal stress in the magnetite minerals. Because sister specimens have similar internal stress but noticeably (>20%) different demagnetizing factors, textural, and shape anisotropy contribute substantially to SRW in these samples. In natural rocks even chemically pure magnetite particles vary considerably in size, shape, and internal stress. Hitherto, mainly the variation in size has been systematically studied, partly because there was no experimental way to reliably quantify stress and shape effects. We now use a new technique to quantify stress and shape effects in three natural magnetite mineral types. One which formed millions of years ago at elevated temperature shows very little shape and stress influences. In the other two samples, slowly cooled magnetite formed a very fine network of lamellae at nanometer scale. In these cases, it was theoretically predicted that internal stress should reach values of up to 300–600 MPa at the interface. For the first time, we can experimentally verify that the high average stresses of up to 340 MPa indeed occur in these exsolution structures. The successful test of our new method extends the toolbox of rock magnetism by a valuable additional technique to quantify previously unknown internal properties of natural magnetite. The magnetic properties of magnetic nanocomposites consisting of hard and soft magnetic phases are dependent not only on the intrinsic properties but also on the grain structure and volume ratio of the two phases. In this study, we performed a systematic micromagnetic simulation on the magnetic properties of Ce2Fe14B/α-Fe and Nd2Fe14B/α-Fe nanocomposites. The volume fractions of the hard magnetic Nd2Fe14B or Ce2Fe14B phase were varied from 80% to 40%, and the grain sizes of the hard magnetic phase and the soft magnetic α-Fe phase were changed independently from 10 nm to 40 nm. The results show that when the grain size of both hard and soft phases is 10 nm and the volume fraction of the hard phase is 70%, the highest maximum magnetic energy product can be obtained in both Ce2Fe14B/α-Fe and Nd2Fe14B/α-Fe nanocomposites. The hard magnetic properties of Ce2Fe14B/α-Fe nanocomposite decrease significantly when the volume fraction of the α-Fe phase exceeds 30%. However, for the Nd2Fe14B/α-Fe system, this situation only occurs when the α-Fe volume fraction exceeds 40%. The reason for this is not only because of the low anisotropic field and the smaller exchange coupling length between the soft and hard magnetic phases, but also because of the lower saturation magnetization of the hard phase. The grain size has greater effects on the magnetic properties compared to the volume fraction of the hard magnetic phase. The main reason is that as the grain size increases, the remanence of the nanocomposite decreases sharply, which also leads to a rapid decrease in the maximum magnetic energy product. The simulation results on the effects of phase ratio and grain size have been verified by experiments on melt-spun Ce2Fe14B/α-Fe alloys with various compositions prepared by melt-spinning followed by annealing for various lengths of time. Due to the influence of demagnetization energy, the hard magnetic phase with high saturation magnetization is preferred for the preparation of high-performance nanocomposite magnets. To achieve the nearly zero-field environment, demagnetization is an indispensable step for magnetic shields composed of high-permeability material, which adjusts the magnetization of the material to establish magnetic equilibrium with the environmental field and improve the shielding performance. The ideal demagnetization can make the high-permeability material on the anhysteretic magnetization curve to have a higher permeability than on the initial magnetization curve. However, inappropriate parameters of degaussing field cause the magnetization state to deviate from the anhysteretic magnetization curve. Therefore, this article proposes a new assessment criterion to analyze and evaluate the parameters of degaussing field based on the difference between the final magnetization state after demagnetization and theoretical anhysteretic state of the shielding material. By this way, the magnetization states after demagnetizations with different initial amplitude, frequency, period number and envelope attenuation function are calculated based on the dynamic Jiles–Atherton (J–A) model, and their magnetization curves under these demagnetization conditions are also measured and compared, respectively. The lower frequency, appropriate amplitude, sufficient period number and logarithmic envelope attenuation function can make the magnetization state after demagnetization closer to the ideal value, which is also consistent with the static magnetic-shielding performance of a booth-type magnetically shielded room (MSR) under different demagnetization condition. The fundamental mechanisms of ultrafast demagnetization and magnetization recovery processes in ferromagnetic materials remain incompletely understood. The investigation of different dynamic features which depend on various physical quantities requires a more systematic approach. Here, the femtosecond laser-induced demagnetization and recovery dynamics in L10-Fe0.5Pt0.5 alloy film are studied by utilizing time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr measurements, focusing on their dependences of excitation fluence and ambient temperature over broad ranges. Ultrafast demagnetization dominated by Elliott-Yafet spin-flip scattering, and two-step magnetization recovery processes are found to be involved in all observations. The fast recovery time corresponding to spin–lattice relaxation is much shorter than that of many ferromagnets and increase with excitation fluence. These can be ascribed to the strong spin–orbit coupling (SOC) demonstrated in FePt and the reduction of transient magnetic anisotropy, respectively. Surprisingly, the demagnetization time exhibits no discernible correlation with ambient temperature. Two competitive factors are proposed to account for this phenomenon. On the other hand, the spin–lattice relaxation accelerates as temperature decreases due to enhanced SOC at lower ambient temperature. A semiquantitative analysis is given to get a visualized understanding. These results offer a comprehensive understanding of the dynamic characteristics of ultrafast demagnetization and recovery processes in iron-based materials with strong SOC, highlighting the potential for regulating the magnetization recovery process through temperature and laser fluence adjustments.
