This work presents a study involving dimers composed of He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe, Rn, and Og noble gases with oganesson, a super-heavy closed-shell element ( Z = 118). He-Og, Ne-Og, Ar-Og, Kr-Og, Xe-Og, Rn-Og, and Og-Og ground state electronic potential energy curves were calculated based on the 4-component (4c) Dirac-Coulomb Hamiltonian and were counterpoise corrected. For the 4c calculations, the electron correlation was taken into account using the same methodology (MP2-srLDA) and basis set quality (Dyall's acv3z and Dunning's aug-cc-PVTZ). All calculations included quantum electrodynamics effects at the Gaunt interaction level. For all the aforementioned dimers the vibration energies, spectroscopic constants ( ω e , ω e x e , ω e y e , α e , and γ e ), and lifetime as a function of the temperature (which ranged from 200 to 500 K) were also calculated. The obtained results suggest that the inclusion of quantum electrodynamics effects reduces the value of the dissociation energy of all hetero-nuclear molecules with a percentage contribution ranging from 0.48% (for the He-Og dimer) to 9.63% (for the Rn-Og dimer). The lifetime calculations indicate that the Og-He dimer is close to the edge of instability and that Ng-Og dimers are relatively less stable when the Gaunt correction is considered. Exploiting scaling laws that adopt the polarizability of involved partners as scaling factors, it has also been demonstrated that in such systems the interaction is of van der Waals nature (size repulsion plus dispersion attraction) and this permitted an estimation of dissociation energy and equilibrium distance in the Og-Og dimer. This further information has been exploited to evaluate the rovibrational levels in this symmetric dimer and to cast light on the macroscopic properties of condensed phases concerning the complete noble gas family, emphasizing some anomalies of Og.

Background: It is known that a large number of mediators involved in osteogenesis can influence bone development and repair; however, whether these mediators could be used as markers of bone maturity has yet to be determined., Aim: To evaluate the expression of osteocalcin (OC) and Runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2) in bone biopsies obtained during the reconstruction of atrophic anterior maxillae using particulate bone xenografts with or without association of autogenous bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC)., Materials and Methods: Ten patients were distributed into two groups ( n = 5), according to the type of grafting material used: Control group (CG), particulate bone xenograft alone, and test group (TG), particulate bone xenograft combined with BMAC. A bone specimen was removed from the graft area 4 months after grafting, before implant placement. The specimens were processed and submitted to immunohistochemical analysis for detection of OC and Runx2. Histomorphometry was used to ascertain the percentage of stained areas in both groups. The Wilcoxon Mann-Whitney U -Test was used in the statistical analysis ( P < 0.05)., Results: The immunohistochemical analysis revealed a significantly higher OC expression in the TG than in the CG, namely 27.40 ± 1.34% and 11.40 ± 2.70%, respectively ( P < 0.05), and a significantly higher Runx2 expression in the TG than in the CG, namely 2.80 ± 0.84% and 0.40 ± 0.55%, respectively ( P < 0.05)., Conclusion: The OC and Runx2 expression levels were higher when BMAC was associated with the bone xenograft than when it was not., Competing Interests: There are no conflicts of interest., (Copyright: © 2022 Contemporary Clinical Dentistry.)

The search for new materials, with ideal electronic and magnetic properties for potential applications in nanoelectronics, has been extremely successful so far, and has paved the way for us to reimagine all technological devices. In the present work, we study the design of MgCl 2 nanoribbons for applications in nanoelectronics and spintronics, by employing first-principles calculations based on density functional theory (DFT) and non-equilibrium Greens function techniques. Our results show that the properties of MgCl 2 nanoribbons depend strongly not only on their geometrical form (armchair or zigzag) but also on the atoms at their edges. The armchair MgCl 2 nanoribbon is a semiconductor and the zigzag nanoribbons vary from semiconducting, to metallic, to ferromagnetic, and to half-metallic, depending on the edge terminations. All these nanoribbons are very stable, with a relatively low cohesive energy per atom, and their attributes are not affected by the width of the nanoribbon. From transport calculations, we observed partial spin filtering in the ferromagnetic nanoribbon and perfect spin filtering in the two half-metallic nanoribbons. Moreover, we show how the current versus voltage curves can be fully understood by analysing the alignment of the energy levels of the electrodes. Our results corroborate the promising use of single-layer MgCl 2 for the development of spintronics devices.

The Lennard-Jones (LJ) and Improved Lennard-Jones (ILJ) potential models have been deeply tested on the most accurate CCSD(T)/CBS electronic energies calculated for some weakly bound prototype systems. These results are important to plan the correct application of such models to systems at increasing complexity. CCSD(T)/CBS ground state electronic energies were determined for 21 diatomic systems composed by the combination of the noble gas atoms. These potentials were employed to calculate the rovibrational spectroscopic constants, and the results show that for 20 of the 21 pairs the ILJ predictions agree more effectively with the experimental data than those of the LJ model. The CCSD(T)/CBS energies were also used to determine the β parameter of the ILJ form, related to the softness/hardness of the interacting partners and controlling the shape of the potential well. This information supports the experimental finding that suggests the adoption of β≈9 for most of the systems involving noble gas atoms. The He-Ne and He-Ar molecules have a lifetime of less than 1ps in the 200-500 K temperature range, indicating that they are not considered stable under thermal conditions of gaseous bulks. Furthermore, the controversy concerning the presence of a "virtual" or a "real" vibrational state in the He2 molecule is discussed.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of mineralized tissue and expression of bone markers in sockets grafted with platelet-rich fibrin and bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC). Patients requiring extraction of one maxillary anterior tooth were randomized into three groups. After tooth extraction, the sockets in the control group (CG) were permitted to fill with blood clot. In the platelet-rich fibrin group (PRFG), after blood processing, the sockets were grafted with PRF plug. In the bone marrow aspirate concentrate combined with platelet-rich fibrin group (BM/PG), after blood and bone marrow processing, the sockets were grafted with a mixture of PRF plug and BMAC. After 6 months, the sites were reopened and bone cores were harvested and prepared for histomorphometric and immunohistochemical evaluation. The following levels were measured: mineralized tissue, expression of RUNX-2, and osteocalcin. Fifteen patients were included in this study. The histomorphometric analysis showed a more pronounced level of mineralized tissue in PRFG and BM/PG (54.20 ± 4.31% and 64.70 ± 6.74%, respectively) when compared with CG (40.60 ± 5.98%) (p = 0.0283 and p = 0.0090, respectively). The expression of RUNX-2 was very low in BM/PG (0.80 ± 0.84%) and absent in CG and PRFG (p = 0.0528). Osteocalcin expression was higher for BM/PG (23.40 ± 1.52%) when compared with CG and PRFG (18.40 ± 2.07% and 16.20 ± 1.92%, respectively) (p = 0.0117 and p = 0.0088, respectively). Objectives: To evaluate bone allograft associated to bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC), in maxillary reconstructions., Materials and Methods: Ten patients with alveolar bone deficiency in the anterior maxilla were randomly divided into control group (CG) and test group (TG). A bone block allograft was placed in both groups, but the graft was impregnated with BMAC only in TG. Computed tomography was performed 7 days (T1) and 6 months (T2) after the grafting procedure, and volume and bone density measurements were carried out. Histomorphometric analysis was performed at T2., Results: Bone volume loss from T1 to T2 was significant only in TG. The bone density in the buccal region of the graft was significantly higher in TG than in CG. There was no significant difference between the groups, in respect to mineralized tissue (MT) and nonmineralized tissue (NMT), in that MT values were 37.77% ± 15.19% and 43.85% ± 10.94%, and NMT values were 62.15% ± 14.90% and 56.30% ± 10.72%, respectively, for CG and TG. The intragroup difference for the MT/NMT ratio was statistically significant in CG but not significant in TG., Conclusions: The use of BMAC resulted in an improved pattern of bone formation, with higher bone density in the peripheral regions of the graft.

This work presents a detailed study concerning the quantum isotope effects on the H+Li[Formula: see text] reaction, when the hydrogen is replaced by muonium, deuterium, and tritium. To verify such effects on these isotope reactions, it was applied an accurate time-independent quantum scattering approach to determine the dynamic properties, such as state-to-state probabilities as a function of the total energy, the product energetic distribution, and the contribution of the ro-vibrational excitation on the reaction probabilities. From the obtained results, it was possible to observe a significant increase on the promotion of the H+Li 2 reaction when hydrogen is replaced by tritium. This fact shows the importance of the isotopic substitution in the making and breaking of the chemical bonds in the reactive systems.

This investigation generated rovibrational energies and spectroscopic constants for systems of CCl 4 with Ng (Ng = He, Ne, Ar), O 2 , D 2 O and ND 3 from scattering experimental data, and the results presented are of interest for microwave spectroscopy studies of small halogenated molecules. The rovibrational spectra were obtained through two different approaches (Dunham and DVR) within the improved Lennard Jones (ILJ) model. Spectra were also generated within ordinary Lennard Jones and deviations suggest that the ILJ model should be preferred due to interactions beyond dispersion forces presented in these systems. Data from the literature and additional high level quantum mechanical calculations presented in this work show that these systems should not be considered as van der Waals complexes due to halogen bonding (HB) interactions, and this is especially true for the CCl 4 -D 2 O and CCl 4 -ND 3 complexes. The charge displacement from the latter systems are one order of magnitude higher than the values from literature for CCl 4 and He, Ne, Ar and O 2 systems, and show significant deviations between DFT and Hartree-Fock values not previously reported in the literature.

The aqueous solvation of Th and Np in the IV oxidation state was examined using cluster models generated by Monte Carlo simulations and density functional theory embedded within the COSMO continuum model to approximate the effect of bulk water. Our results suggest that the coordination number (CN) for both Th(IV) and NP(IV) should be 9, in accordance to some experimental and theoretical results from the literature. The structural values for average oxygen-metal distances are within 0.01 Å compared to experimental data, and also within the experimental error. The calculated ΔG Sol 0 are in very good agreement with experimental reported values, with deviations at CN = 9 lower than 1% for both Th(IV) and Np(IV). The hydrolysis constants are also in very good agreement with experimental values. Finally, this [corrected] methodology has the advantage of using a GGA functional (BP86) that not only makes the calculations more affordable computationally than hybrid functional or ab initio molecular dynamics simulations (Car-Parrinello) calculations, but also opens the perspective to use resolution of identity (RI) calculations for more extended systems.

Background: Evaluate the effects of additional load (5% and 10% of body weight) with treadmill gait training on the motor aspects in Parkinson's disease (PD)., Methods: Randomized controlled single-blind trial with 30 individuals with PD. The volunteers were divided into three groups (treadmill with 0%, 5% or 10% load), where Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale was applied. Treadmill gait training was conducted over 4 consecutive weeks, with three weekly sessions of 30 min each., Results: There was a significant reduction in all groups in the time factor for motor function (F = 12.92; P = 0.001) and postural instability (F = 11.23; P = 0.002). No significant difference was observed in group × time interaction (F < 1.76; P > 0.19)., Conclusion: The treadmill comprises an effective therapy for people with PD, for important motor aspects such as motor function and postural instability. Purpose. To investigate the regenerative results obtained with the association of bone marrow aspirate concentrate using the Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) method to a xenogeneic bone graft (Bio-Oss) in sinus floor elevation. Materials and Methods. Using a randomized controlled study design in eight consecutive patients (age of 55.4 ± 9.2 years), 16 sinus floor lift procedures were performed with Bio-Oss alone (control group, CG, n = 8) or combined with bone marrow aspirate concentrate obtained via the BMAC method (test group, TG, n = 8). Six months after the grafting procedures, bone biopsies were harvested during implant placement and were analyzed by histomorphometry. Results. Histomorphometric analysis revealed a significantly higher amount (p < 0.05) of vital mineralized tissue in TG when compared to the CG (55.15 ± 20.91% and 27.30 ± 5.55%, resp.). For nonvital mineralized tissue, TG presented a statistically higher level of Bio-Oss resorption (p < 0.05) when compared with the CG (6.32 ± 12.03% and 22.79 ± 9.60%, resp.). Both groups (TG and CG) showed no significantly different levels (p > 0.05) of nonmineralized tissue (38.53 ± 13.08% and 49.90 ± 7.64%, resp.). Conclusion. The use of bone marrow concentrate obtained by BMAC method increased bone formation in sinus lift procedures.

The covalent excited states and ground state of the Br2 molecule has been investigated by using four-component relativistic COSCI and MRCISD methods. These methods were performed for all covalent states in the representation Ω((±)). Calculated potential energy curves (PECs) were obtained at the four-component COSCI level, and spectroscopic constants (R(e), D(e), D0, ω(e), ω(e)x(e), ω(e)y(e), B(e), α(e), γ(e), Te, Dv) for bounded states are reported. The vertical excitations for all covalent states are reported at COSCI, MRCISD, and MRCISD+Q levels. We also present spectroscopic constants for two weakly bounded states (A':(1)2u and B':(1)0(-)u) not yet reported in the literature, as well as accurate analytical curves for all five relativistic molecular bounded sates [the ground state X:0 g(+) and the excited states A:(1)1(u), B:(1)0(u)(+), C:(2)1(u), and B':(1)0(u)(-)] found in this work.

An antioxidant structure-activity study is carried out in this work with ten flavonoid compounds using quantum chemistry calculations with the functional of density theory method. According to the geometry obtained by using the B3LYP/6-31G(d) method, the HOMO, ionization potential, stabilization energies, and spin density distribution showed that the flavonol is the more antioxidant nucleus. The spin density contribution is determinant for the stability of the free radical. The number of resonance structures is related to the π-type electron system. 3-hydroxyflavone is the basic antioxidant structure for the simplified flavonoids studied here. The electron abstraction is more favored in the molecules where ether group and 3-hydroxyl are present, nonetheless 2,3-double bond and carbonyl moiety are facultative.

Quantum mechanical calculations at B3LYP/6-31G** level of theory were employed to obtain energy (E), ionization potential (IP), bond dissociation enthalpy (O-H BDE) and stabilization energies (DE(iso)) in order to infer the scavenging activity of dihydrochalcones (DHC) and structurally related compounds. Spin density calculations were also performed for the proposed antioxidant activity mechanism of 2,4,6-trihydroxyacetophenone (2,4,6-THA). The unpaired electron formed by the hydrogen abstraction from the phenolic hydroxyl group of 2,4,6-THA is localized on the phenolic oxygen at 2, 6, and 4 positions, the C₃ and C₆ carbon atoms at ortho positions, and the C₅ carbon atom at para position. The lowest phenolic oxygen contribution corresponded to the highest scavenging activity value. It was found that antioxidant activity depends on the presence of a hydroxyl at the C2 and C4 positions and that there is a correlation between IP and O-H BDE and peroxynitrite scavenging activity and lipid peroxidation. These results identified the pharmacophore group for DHC.

The aim of this paper was report the clinical, radiographic, and histological case of adenomatoid odontogenic tumour (AOT) in adolescent woman as well as present the reconstructive treatment of AOT using fresh-frozen human bone graft with guided bone regeneration. AOT is a benign, noninvasive lesion with slow but progressive growth. Biopsy and microscopic examination confirmed the presence of an AOT. Treatment was conservative and the prognosis was excellent. The patient has been followed-up for without recurrence. The use of fresh-frozen human bone graft can be a safe choice for reconstruction of the bone defects to treat AOT.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the possibility of obtaining guided bone regeneration using a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) nonporous barrier for 2 endosseous implants, partially inserted in tibiae of rabbits., Materials and Methods: Histologic characteristics of the interface between titanium implants (one group with titanium plasma-coated implants and the other group with acid-treated surfaces) and of the regenerated bone were also studied. Twenty screw-vent implants were placed in tibiae of 5 male New Zealand rabbits, 2 at the right side and 2 at the left side, protruding 3 mm from the bone level, to create a horizontal bone defect. At the experimental group the implants were protected with a PTFE nonporous barrier, whereas no barriers were used in contralateral implants. Animals were sacrificed 3 months after surgery and biopsy specimens were evaluated histologically and histomorphometrically under light microscopy. Student's t test was used for statistical analysis., Results: The histologic measurements showed a mean gain in bone height of 2.15 and 2.42 mm for the barrier group and 1.95 and 0.43 mm for the control group, for the titanium plasma-spray and acid-treated implant surfaces, respectively., Conclusion: The results of the investigation revealed that the placement of implants protruding 3 mm from crestal bone defects may result in vertical bone augmentation using a nonporous PTFE barrier.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the possibility to obtain guided bone regeneration with two types of physical barriers (calcium sulfate and PTFE nonporous barrier) in surgical defects created in rat parietal bones. In the right parietal bone the calcium sulfate barrier filled out the whole defect and in the left parietal bone the barrier of PTFE was positioned in the floor and externally to the surgical defect. After 7, 14, 30 and 45 days four animals were sacrificed in each period and the bone containing the defects were submitted to the microscopic analysis. The results of the study revealed that the PTFE barrier was more effective for bone regeneration in shallow transcortical defects compared to the calcium sulfate. However, additional experiments are necessary to determine if calcium sulfate would be successful in other bone defects types or the use of the material under another consistence could complement the results obtained in this work.

The electronic structure and spectroscopic properties (R(e), omega(e), omega(e)x(e), beta(e), and T(e)) of the ground state and the 22 lowest excited states of chlorine molecule were studied within a four-component relativistic framework using the MOLFDIR program package. The potential energy curves of all possible 23 covalent states were calculated using relativistic complete open shell configuration interaction approach. In addition, four component multireference configuration interaction with single and double excitation calculations were performed in order to infer the effects due to dynamical correlation in vertical excitations. The calculated properties are in good agreement with the available experimental data.

Objective: To determine the efficacy of using forced expiratory volume in six seconds (FEV6) as a surrogate for forced vital capacity (FVC) in the diagnostic screening for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) by comparing FEV1/FVC ratios with FEV1/FEV6 ratios., Methods: In November of 2003, on World COPD Day, we conducted a campaign of diagnostic screening for COPD. The participants completed the clinical questionnaire of the Global Initiative for Obstructive Lung Disease, and those who responded affirmatively to at least three questions underwent spirometry., Results: A total of 134 individuals responded to three questions affirmatively and underwent spirometry. Of those, 59 were excluded: 45 for being non-smokers and 14 due to the fact that their tests did not meet the American Thoracic Society criteria for satisfactory spirometry. The number of tests in which the FEV1/FEV6 ratio was below 70% was similar to that found for the FEV1/FVC ratio. The sensitivity of FEV1/FEV6 in diagnosing airway obstruction (defined as FEV1/FVC below 70%) was 92%, and its specificity was 99%. The positive predictive value was 100%, and the negative predictive value was 98%. The Kendall correlation test revealed r = 0.99 (p < 0.0001). The t-test for paired samples revealed a negative correlation: t = -5.93 (p < 0.0001)., Conclusion: The FEV1/FEV6 proved efficient for use in the diagnostic screening for COPD. There is a strong correlation between FEV1/FVC and FEV1/FEV6.

An accurate relativistic universal Gaussian basis set (RUGBS) from H through No without variational prolapse has been developed by employing the Generator Coordinate Dirac-Fock (GCDF) method. The behavior of our RUGBS was tested with two nuclear models: (1) the finite nucleus of uniform proton-charge distribution, and (2) the finite nucleus with a Gaussian proton-charge distribution. The largest error between our Dirac-Fock-Coulomb total energy values and those calculated numerically is 8.8 mHartree for the No atom., ((c) 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.)

A polynomial version of the Generator Coordinate Dirac-Fock (p-GCDF) method is introduced and applied to develop Adapted Gaussian Basis Sets (AGBS) for helium- and beryllium-like atomic species (He, Ne +8, Ar +16, Sn +48, Be, Ne +6, Ar +14, and Sn +46) and for Kr and Xe atoms. The Dirac-Fock-Coulomb and Dirac-Fock-Breit energies obtained with these basis sets are in excellent agreement with numerical finite-difference calculations. Moreover, the sizes of the AGBS generated here with the p-GCDF method are significantly smaller than the size of previous relativistic Gaussian basis sets., (Copyright 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.)

Activation of the carbon dioxide molecule was achieved using bicyclic amidines (DBU, PMDBD, and DBN). The solution reaction of CO(2) with amidines yielded the corresponding zwitterionic complexes through the formation of a N-CO(2) bond. (13)C NMR data confirmed the carbamic nature of the carbamic zwitterions, DBU-CO(2) and PMDBD-CO(2). However, when these adducts were crystallized, the X-ray analyses of the single crystals were in agreement with bisamidinium bicarbonate salt structures, indicating that structural changes occurred in the crystallization process. The elemental and thermogravimetric analysis data for the carbamic zwitterions, DBU-CO(2) and PMDBD-CO(2), initially obtained by the direct reaction of amidines with CO(2), suggest that these molecules are probably associated with one molecule of water by hydrogen-bond formation (amidinium(+)-COO(-)...H(2)O). A correlation was observed between the thermal stability and the transcarboxylating activity for the amidine-CO(2) complexes. Theoretical calculations of hardness were performed at the B3LYP/cc-pVTZ level of theory and showed concordance with the experimental reactivity of DBU and PMDBD toward CO(2).

Regeneration of periodontal and alveolar ridge defects utilizing membranes is a well-established procedure in reconstructive surgery. Biomaterial characteristics and membrane design employed in guided tissue regeneration (GTR) techniques play an important role in good results. The purpose of this histologic experimental study in rats was to compare the use of two physical barriers in the osteopromotion by using GTR principles in bone defects created in tibias. Fifteen animals divided into 3 groups were used: group I (non-porous polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) barrier), group II (coral hydroxyapatite (HA) blocks), and group III (defects that received no physical barrier). Histological examination showed varied amounts of newly formed bone beneath both types of barriers. The non-porous PTFE barrier showed better results than the HA group. The results of this study suggest that bone regeneration can be successfully enhanced by a submerged membrane technique.
