Objective: to report the experience of undergraduate and postgraduate students of the UFSM Nursing Course in order to carry out health promotion actions through playful and pedagogical workshops with healthy elderly people. Methodology: this is an experience report regarding the participation of students in six annual editions (2010 to 2015) of the Extension Project "Acampavida". Each distinct annual theme issue was discussed with the participants. The topics covered issues related to health promotion, and were explored through ludic-pedagogical workshops, which were based on participatory methodology, seeking to promote discussion and reflection among participants. The data reported come from a field diary, where the students recorded the information that surrounded the space of each workshop. Results: The themes explored with the elderly focused on the maintenance of their functional capacities, including issues related to quality of life, sexuality, family relationships, body experience and healthy aging. Conclusion: Participation in the "Acampavida" Project made it possible to expand the possibilities of health promotion strategies to the elderly population, seeking to promote elements that directly or indirectly influence aspects of autonomy and independence that are indispensable for the maintenance of functional capacity. In addition, the activity gave opportunities for the expressiveness of the elderly, which emphasizes the ludic-pedagogical workshops as a strategy to promote health, and consequently subsidize the maintenance of vitality.
