Para poder entender cómo funcionan los centros penitenciarios hoy en día y cómo se ayuda a los reclusos a reinsertarse en la sociedad, es fundamental conocer los antecedentes de las prisiones y su evolución histórica. El sistema penitenciario español tiene como principal finalidad ser un sistema orientado a la reeducación y reinserción de los reclusos, por lo que el objetivo del presente trabajo será estudiar a la población reclusa, los motivos de los altos números de encarcelados que han habido en nuestro país, el tipo de vida que llevan dentro de prisión, los delitos más frecuentes y los diferentes grados que existen. También estudiaremos los costes que supone para el Estado poder mantener estas instituciones, y si los programas de reinserción son realmente útiles para los reclusos. De esta manera se podrá tener un mayor espíritu crítico para poder evaluar el sistema penitenciario con el que contamos en nuestro país. In order to understand how prisons function today and how inmates are being helped to reintegrate into society, it is essential to know the background of prisons and their historical evolution. The main purpose of the Spanish penitentiary system is to be a system oriented to the reeducation and reintegration of inmates. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to study the prison population, the reasons for the high number of inmates in our country, the type of life they lead in prison, the most frequent crimes and the different degrees that exist. We will also study the costs for the State to maintain these institutions, and if the reintegration programs are really useful for the inmates. In this way we will be able to have a more critical view to evaluate the penitentiary system we have in our country.

La temperatura de transición vítrea (Tg) de un material es el rango de tempe-raturas donde ocurre la transición entre un estado cauchoso y un estado vítreo, produciéndose cambios que se ven reflejados en sus propiedades fisicoquímicas. El objetivo de este trabajo es determinar las curvas de transición vítrea (Tg vs. Humedad de grano) de tres variedades uruguayas de arroz y evaluar si existen di-ferencias significativas entre ellas. Se estudia también la influencia de la humedad de cosecha (HC). Para ello, cada muestra de arroz se seca por diferentes períodos de tiempo para obtener humedades de grano (HG) en un rango entre 10% y 22% (en base húmeda). A continuación, se mide la Tg por calorimetría diferencial de barrido (DSC). Los resultados se comparan aplicando ANOVA y el test de Tukey. Se observó que la Tg aumenta a medida que disminuye la HG para las tres variedades estudiadas. Las curvas de transición vítrea muestran que existen diferencias significativas entre las tres variedades en el rango de HG de 12% a 16%. La HC no afectó la Tg en todo el rango estudiado. Los resultados obtenidos pueden aplicarse para optimizar el proceso de secado del arroz, minimizando la formación de fisuras

Histone posttranslational modifications play a fundamental role in orchestrating gene expression. In this work, we analyzed the acetylation of H3 and H4 histones (AcH3-AcH4) and its modulation by visual experience in the mouse visual cortex (VC) during normal development and in two experimental conditions that restore juvenile-like plasticity levels in adults (fluoxetine treatment and enriched environment). We found that AcH3-AcH4 declines with age and is upregulated by treatments restoring plasticity in the adult. We also found that visual experience modulates AcH3-AcH4 in young and adult plasticity-restored mice but not in untreated ones. Finally, we showed that the transporter vGAT is downregulated in adult plasticity-restored models. In summary, we identified a dynamic regulation of AcH3-AcH4, which is associated with high plasticity levels and enhanced by visual experience. These data, along with recent ones, indicate H3-H4 acetylation as a central hub in the control of experience-dependent plasticity in the VC

We report a case of nasal rhinosporidiosis in a dog native to Uruguay, being the sixth report of Rhinosporidium seeberi infection in this host from South America. Diagnosis was made by histopathology of biopsied tissue and specific PCR assay from nasal swab material. The patient was a 3-year-old male dog, of the Dogo Argentino breed, living in a rural area in southeastern Uruguay. An account of published cases in dogs worldwide is provided. As seen in other hosts, male dogs seem to present a predisposition for acquiring the disease.
