Purpose: To analyze the accuracy of defining characteristics of the NANDA International nursing diagnosis, fatigue (00093), in patients with heart failure. Methods: A cross‐sectional study on the diagnostic accuracy of the defining characteristics of the nursing diagnosis. The sample consisted of 96 patients with heart failure in treatment in a public hospital. The latent class analysis method was used to test the accuracy measurements and estimate the prevalence of the diagnosis. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. Results: The prevalence of the fatigue nursing diagnosis was 42.54%. Increased physical symptoms (0.9988) and tiredness (0.9988) were the sensitive defining characteristics. Disinterested in surroundings (0.9999) was the specific defining characteristics. Conclusions: A set of three defining characteristics of the nursing diagnosis of fatigue was accurate in patients with heart failure. Thus, this set can be used by nurses to confirm nursing diagnosis fatigue in patients with heart failure. Implications for nursing practice: This research contributes by providing accurate defining characteristics of fatigue in patients with heart failure. Thus, nurses should recognize the nursing diagnosis of fatigue in patients with heart failure through accurate defining characteristics and propose rapid and effective nursing interventions that have positive health results. This study analyzed the accuracy of clinical indicators of ineffective health management in hemodialysis patients. A diagnostic accuracy study was performed in 200 chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis during the first half of 2015. Measures of sensitivity and specificity were calculated using latent class analysis. Ineffective health management was present in 66.28% of patients. Accurate clinical indicators included expressed nonadherence to treatment, daily life choices ineffective to achieve health goals, expression of difficulty with prescribed regimens, inappropriate use of medicines, lack of expression of willingness to control the disease, irregular attendance of dialysis sessions, and infection. Hemodialysis may trigger a set of clinical indicators that predict the presence of ineffective health management. This knowledge provides evidence to clinical practices fo r hemodialysis patients and contributes to the best clinical performance of nurse practitioners. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To analyze the knowledge of the chronic renal patients undergoing hemodialysis regarding this treatment, according to the indicators of the "Knowledge:Treatment procedures" nursing outcome. Method: A descriptive study carried out in a public hospital of Pernambuco through the application of the "Knowledge: Treatment procedures" nursing outcome in 51 patients undergoing hemodialysis. Results: The surveyed patients had no knowledge, or limited and moderate knowledge, and did not have broad and/or substantial knowledge on hemodialysis. Discussion: Hemodialysis is a complex procedure and requires an adaptation of the patient's lifestyle. Therefore, knowing the disease and its treatment may contribute to a successful therapy. Conclusion: Through the application of the nursing outcome indicators in the clinical practice, it was verified that chronic renal patients have moderate, limited or no knowledge of hemodialysis. Objective: to evaluate the accuracy of the defining characteristics of the excess fluid volume nursing diagnosis of NANDA International, in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Method: this was a study of diagnostic accuracy, with a cross-sectional design, performed in two stages. The first, involving 100 patients from a dialysis clinic and a university hospital in northeastern Brazil, investigated the presence and absence of the defining characteristics of excess fluid volume. In the second step, these characteristics were evaluated by diagnostic nurses, who judged the presence or absence of the diagnosis. To analyze the measures of accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values were calculated. Approval was given by the Research Ethics Committee under authorization No. 148.428. Results: the most sensitive indicator was edema and most specific were pulmonary congestion, adventitious breath sounds and restlessness. Conclusion: the more accurate defining characteristics, considered valid for the diagnostic inference of excess fluid volume in patients undergoing hemodialysis were edema, pulmonary congestion, adventitious breath sounds and restlessness. Se trata del caso clínico que tuvo como objetivo describir diagnósticos, intervenciones y resultados de enfermería en un paciente con el Síndrome de Marfan internado en la unidad de terapia intensiva en el posoperatorio de corrección de aneurisma de aorta. Fue desarrollado en el hospital Universitario, localizado en el municipio de Natal-Brasil, en abril de 2011. Entre los principales diagnósticos de enfermería identificados, se destacan: Débito Cardíaco Disminuido; Riesgo de Infección; Dolor Aguda; Riesgo de Glucemia Inestable; Integridad de la Piel Afectada y Ansiedad. Se percibió que la aplicación del proceso de enfermería en este paciente contribuyo para delimitar el campo de actuación especifico de la enfermería, así como identificar los cuidados prioritarios, contribuyendo para una mejoría en la calidad de la asistencia. Purpose: To evaluate the accuracy of clinical indicators and etiological factors associated with the nursing diagnosis of excessive sedentary behavior among university students., Method: This study employed a cross-sectional diagnostic accuracy design. The sample comprised 108 students from a Brazilian public university. Fisher's exact and chi-square tests were utilized to determine associations. A latent class analysis model was applied to assess the sensitivity and specificity of clinical indicators and the prevalence of the diagnosis. The odds ratio for etiological factors was calculated using univariate logistic regression. The research ethics committee of the responsible institution approved the study., Results: The prevalence of the nursing diagnosis excessive sedentary behavior among university students was 16.3%. The sensitive clinical indicators identified were 'inadequate sleep quality' (0.9999), while the specific indicators included 'lack of physical fitness' (0.9998) and 'cardiovascular alterations' (0.9557). The etiological factor 'physical activity in frequency, intensity and duration lower than recommended' was associated with the diagnosis. Additionally, statistical associations were found between the diagnosis and the following variables: body composition, muscle capacity, flexibility, scores from the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (with emphasis on the days of the week of vigorous physical activity), minutes per week of vigorous activity, days of the week of walking, hours of sleep per night, and average sleep quality., Conclusion: There is evidence of construct validity for the nursing diagnosis excessive sedentary behavior in university students, supported by one sensitive clinical indicator and two specific indicators., Implications for Nursing Practice: Increased knowledge of the nursing diagnosis Excessive sedentary behavior in university students can enhance clinical reasoning among nurses and contribute to the elevation of evidence levels and the continuous improvement of the NANDA-I taxonomy., (© 2024 NANDA International, Inc.)

Background: Pressure ulcers increase hospital stays and treatment costs due to their complications. Therefore, recognizing factors that contribute to pressure ulcer risk are important to patient safety., Objective: To evaluate the association between the scores of the Waterlow, Braden, and Norton scales and clinical and social characteristics in critically ill patients., Method: A cross-sectional study of 78 patients in an adult intensive care unit of a university hospital in Northeastern Brazil was conducted from July to December 2015. Data included social and clinical information and the risk factors of the Braden, Norton and Waterlow scales. Data were analysed by the descriptive and inferential statistics., Results: Most of the participants were female, adults and elderly people with brown skin colour, low education levels and insufficient income. Most of them showed a high risk for developing pressure ulcers using the three evaluated scales. Age, smoking status, diabetes and hypertension were associated with scores on the Waterlow, Braden and Norton scales., Conclusion: Age, use of the tobacco, diabetes and hypertension were associated with the risk of pressure ulcers in ICU patients.
