With the increasing industrial relevance of new quantum technologies, a well-educated quantum workforce becomes increasingly crucial. The foreseeable lack of workforce raises important questions. What are the expectations regarding the future relevance of second-generation quantum technologies? What are the requirements for the workforce in the coming quantum industry? Which competences, knowledge, and skills should future employees have? In this paper, we report the results of our study that were aimed at mapping requirements and forecasts for the future quantum workforce. Our study consisted of three consecutive survey rounds. In total, we gathered 188 responses from industry and academic experts across Europe. Our study results served as an input for the development of the European Competence Framework for Quantum Technologies, delivered by the project QTEdu CSA for the European Quantum Flagship. In addition, we will discuss predictions from experts related to the future quantum workforce, including the expected industrial relevance of the main areas of quantum technologies, the need for educational efforts, and the expected influence of quantum technologies on everyday life.

Despite numerous research on new active materials for anodes, graphite remains the most commonly used material in Li-ion batteries. The spherical shape of the graphite particles has proven to be beneficial for application in electric vehicles, especially for fast charging. So far, the spheroidization of natural flake graphite is conducted by a rigid and inefficient cascade process. In this work, a scalable classifier system was used for spheroidization, and it was demonstrated that a spheroidization time of 15 min is sufficient to improve material properties and enhance electrochemical performance while maintaining high process yields of 55%. Insights into the influence of the morphology on the intrinsic and structural properties of the graphite particles and manufactured electrodes are provided. Spheroidization creates a more efficient pore network in the coating layer while reducing the internal resistance and increasing the surface area of the particles by a factor of 1.8. We demonstrate that the spherical shape improves the discharge rate capability by 1.8, and the specific charge capacity could be enhanced by more than 237% at a C-rate of 3. An additional carbon coating could significantly decrease the specific surface area and increase the specific capacity at high C-rates.

The wave telescope technique is broadly established in the analysis of spacecraft data and serves as a bridge between local measurements and the global picture of spatial structures. The technique is originally based on plane waves and has been extended to spherical waves, phase shifted waves as well as planetary magnetic field representation. The goal of the present study is the extension of the wave telescope technique using electromagnetic knot structures as a basis. As the knots are an exact solution of Maxwell's equations they open the door for a new modeling and interpretation of magnetospheric structures, such as plasmoids.

We investigate the nonequilibrium dynamics of the $S=1$ quantum spin chain subjected to a time-dependent external drive, where the driving frequency is adiabatically decreased as a function of time (``Floquet adiabatic evolution''). We show that when driving the rhombic anisotropy term (known as the ``two-axis countertwisting'' in the context of squeezed spin states) of a N\'eel antiferromagnet, we are able to induce an overall enhancement in the quadrupole polarization, while at the same time suppressing the staggered magnetization order. The system evolves into a new state with a net quadrupole moment and antiferroquadrupolar correlations. This state remains stable at long times once the driving frequency is kept constant. On the other hand, we find that we cannot achieve a quadrupole polarization for the symmetry-protected Haldane phase, which remains robust against such driving.

The utilisation of the spin degree of freedom for the transfer of information has become a key interest in modern microtechnology. In this work I investigate the influence of magnetic and electric fields on the spin system’s ability to transport heat. I consider a two-dimensional square lattice with nearest-neighbour antiferromagnetic Heisenberg interaction. Using a Green’s function approach and the Kubo formula, I derive expressions which relate the thermal conductivity to the magnetic excitation’s mobility, heat capacity, and their lifetime. All three of these properties are affected by the external fields which I consider. In the first part of this work I consider a magnetic field which is homogeneously applied to the system. I focus on the effect of field-induced inter-magnon scattering which reduces their lifetime. I find that the temperature-independent spontaneous decay processes drastically reduce the magnetic thermal conductivity. Such processes occur only beyond a specific strength of the field. Spontaneous magnon decay reduces the lifetime of a large proportion of magnon modes and, as a result, also the thermal conductivity. The effects of spontaneous magnon decay can be expected to be experimentally observable for materials with a high contribution of magnetic excitations to the thermal transport. In the second part of this thesis I consider the effect of an electric field which is applied homogeneously to the whole system and only to a finite spatial region. Because the electric field leads to the emergence of an additional Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction, it can be used to change the magnetic order, too. The DM-vectors caused by the electric field are anisotropic. This anisotropy is also observed in the magnetic order of the classical ground state, the magnon spectrum, as well as in the thermal conductivity. Due to the broken translational invariance in the inhomogeneous setup, linear spin wave theory has to be used in real- instead of in momentum-space to obtain the magnon spectrum. I use numerical procedures to determine the thermal conductivity on a finite lattice. My results show that the inhomogeneity introduces additional scattering. It turns out that, because the gap opens for short-wavelength magnons, the size of the region where the field applied to is more or less inessential. It is therefore possible to control the thermal transport by the electric field’s strength., In dieser Arbeit habe ich den Einfluss von magnetischen und elektrischen Feldern auf die Fähigkeit des Spinsystems Wärme zu leiten untersucht. Ich habe ein zwei-dimensionales Quadratgitter mit antiferromagnetischer nächstnachbar Heisenberg-Wechselwirkung betrachtet. Durch Anwendung von Green’s-Funktionen und der Kubo-Formel konnte ich Beziehungen herleiten, die die thermische Leitfähigkeit mit charakteristischen Eigenschaften der magnetischen Anregungen in Zusammenhang bringen. Diese Eigenschaften können mit den untersuchten externen Feldern beeinflusst werden. Im ersten Teil der Arbeit habe ich den Effekt eines magnetischen Feldes untersucht, welches homogen im gesamten System angelegt wird. Hier wurden Magnon-Magnon-Streuprozesse berücksichtigt, die durch das Magnetfeld verursacht wer-den und die Magnonlebensdauer senken. Ich habe ermittelt, dass die temperaturunabhängigen spontanen Zerfallsprozesse die thermische Leitfähigkeit drastisch reduzieren. Diese Prozesse treten jedoch erst oberhalb einer spezifischen Magnetfeldstärke auf. Durch spontane Zerfallsprozesse, welche erst ab einer kritischen Feldstärke stattfinden, sinkt die Lebensdauer einer Vielzahl von Magnon-moden und damit auch die thermische Leitähigkeit. Der zweite Teil dieser Arbeitbetrachtet die Auswirkungen eines elektrischen Feldes auf die thermische Leitfähigkeit. Da dieses Feld zum Auftreten einer zusätzlichen Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya(DM)-Wechselwirkung führt, ist es geeignet, die magnetische Ordnung zu beeinflussen. Die DM-Vektoren zeigen in unterschiedliche Richtungen. Die hiermit einhergehende Anisotropie hat Auswirkungen auf die thermische Leitfähigkeit.Für den Fall gebrochener Translationsinvarianz führte ich die lineare Spinwellen-theorie im Real- statt im Impulsraum durch. Ich wandte numerische Verfahren an,um die thermische Leitfähigkeit auf einem endlichen Gitter zu berechnen. Meine Resultate zeigen, dass durch Anlegen des elektrischen Feldes in einem räumlichbeschränkten Bereich eine zusätzliche Quelle für Streuung entsteht, was im Ver-gleich zum homogenen Fall die thermische Leitfähigkeit noch weiter reduziert. Es zeigt sich, dass das elektrische Feld nur in einer kleinen Region angelegt werden muss, um die selben Effekte wie für das homogene System zu erreichen. Damit kann der Wärmetransport in einem magnetischen Material durch Anlegen eineselektrischen Feldes in einer kleinen Region gesteuert werden.

Die wachsende Verfügbarkeit von magnetischen Nanopartikeln (MNPs) mit funktionalisierten Partikeloberflächen eröffnet weitreichende Möglichkeiten für chemische, biologische und klinische Analysemethoden. Durch Funktionalisierung kann eine gezielte Interaktion mit Molekülen bewirkt werden, die im Allgemeinen auch die Beweglichkeit der MNPs verändern. Methoden zur Charakterisierung von MNPs wie bspw. AC-Suszeptometrie, Magnetorelaxometrie (MRX) oder Magnetic Particle Spectroscopy (MPS) können diese Änderung der Beweglichkeit bei MNPs messen, wenn es sich um MNPs handelt, deren magnetisches Moment im Partikel fixiert ist. Damit ist mit funktionalisierten MNPs indirekt auch die spezifische Messung von Molekülkonzentrationen möglich. MNPs können zudem in biokompatibler Form hergestellt werden und sind dadurch auch als in-vivo Marker einsetzbar. Das 2005 das erste Mal veröffentlichte Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI) kann als ein mittels Gradientenfeldern um die räumliche Kodierung erweitertes MPS betrachtet werden. Dank biokompatibler MNPs handelt es sich dabei um eine in-vivo-taugliche, nicht-invasive Bildgebungsmethode. Mit funktionalisierten MNPs als Marker ist damit im Prinzip auch molekulare Bildgebung möglich, die durch Detektion der beteiligten Moleküle (Biomarker) Stoffwechselprozesse räumlich abbilden kann. Im Vergleich zur Bildgebung von Gewebe- und Knochenstrukturen lassen sich die diagnostischen Möglichkeiten durch molekulare Bildgebung erheblich erweitern. Rotationsdriftspektroskopie (Rotational Drift Spectroscopy, RDS) ist eine in dieser Arbeit entwickelte Methode für die induktive Messung der Beweglichkeit von MNPs in flüssiger Suspension. Es verwendet die Rotationsdrift von MNPs in rotierenden magnetischen Feldern als Grundlage und bietet das Potential die Änderungen der Beweglichkeit von MNPs mit einer Empfindlichkeit messen zu können, welche potentiell um mehrere Größenordnungen höher sein kann als mit den oben erwähnten Verfahren. Die vorliegende Arbeit konzentriert sich auf die Verwendbarkeit dieses Effekts als Spektroskopiemethode. Die Eigenschaften des RDS-Signals sind jedoch auch als Grundlage für räumliche Kodierung vielversprechend. In weiterführenden Projekten soll daher auch die Entwicklung von Rotationsdriftbildgebung (Rotating Drift Imaging, RDI) als ein nicht-invasives Verfahren für molekulare Bildgebung angestrebt werden. Der Grundgedanke von RDS entlehnt sich aus einem in 2006 veröffentlichten Sensordesign basierend auf magnetische Mikropartikel in einem schwachen rotierenden Magnetfeld. Das rotierende Magnetfeld ist dabei so schwach gewählt, dass sich das Partikel aufgrund der viskosen Reibung nicht mehr synchron mit dem externen Feld drehen kann. Die Frequenz der resultierenden asynchronen Rotationsdrift liegt unterhalb der Frequenz des externen Rotationsfelds und ist Abhängig von der viskosen Reibung. Aufgrund dieser Abhängigkeit können Änderungen im Reibungskoeffizienten des Partikels über Änderungen in der Rotationsdriftfrequenz gemessen werden. RDS zielt darauf ab, diese Rotationsdrift bei suspendierten MNPs über deren makroskopische Magnetisierung messen zu können. Damit wird u.a. auch die nicht-invasive Messung von MNPs innerhalb opaker biologischer Proben möglich. MNP-Suspensionen sind großzahlige Nanopartikel-ensembles und können nicht wie ein einzelnes Mikropartikel gemessen werden. Für die induktive Messung ist vor dem Start eine Ausrichtung aller magnetischen Momente nötig, da sich deren makroskopische Magnetisierung andernfalls zu Null addiert. Aufgrund von Rotationsdiffusion bleibt diese Ausrichtung nur eine begrenzte Zeit bestehen, so dass auch die eigentliche Messung des RDS-Signals nur eine begrenzte Zeit möglich ist. Diese Ausrichtung wurde in den ersten Experimenten durch einen kurzen Magnetfeldpuls erzeugt. In der Empfangsspule ist die Induktion durch das Rotationsfeld typischer Weise um mehrere Größenordnungen höher als das zu erwartende Signal und muss durch einen Tiefpass unterdrückt werden. In diesem Tiefpassfilter ruft jedoch die Einkopplung des Anfangspulses eine Pulsantwort hervor, die ebenso mehrere Größenordnungen des zu erwartenden Signals betragen kann und ähnlich langsam wie typische Signale abklingt. Die Unterdrückung dieser Pulsantwort stellte in den ersten Experimenten die größte Hürde da. Der erste Aufbau hatte eine Relaisschaltung zur Pulsunterdrückung und resultierte in einer Totzeit von 3 ms zwischen Anfangspuls und Start der Messung. Aufgrund dieser Totzeit waren die ersten Messungen auf größere Agglomerate und Sedimente von MNPs beschränkt, da nur in diesem Fall eine hinreichend lange Zerfallsdauer der Probenmagnetisierung vorlag. Das Verhalten derartiger Partikelsysteme ist jedoch aufgrund von mechanischer und magnetischer Interpartikelwechselwirkung vergleichsweise komplex und theoretisch schwer modellierbar. Das primäre Zielsystem für RDS hingegen, Eindomänenpartikel mit im Partikel fixierter Magnetisierung und Punktsymmetrie bzgl. des Reibungstensors, erlaubt die Aufstellung einer parametrisierten Funktion für den Signalverlauf. Es ermöglicht somit aufgrund der besseren Berechenbarkeit eine solidere Auswertung des RDS-Signals. Um Eindomänenpartikel in wässriger Suspension mit typischen Partikeldurchmessern um 100 nm messen zu können ist eine Verkürzung der Totzeit auf mindestens 1/10 erforderlich. Prinzipiell kann diese Problematik durch die Verwendung schneller Halbleiterschalter in Verbindung mit einer präzise abstimmbaren induktiven Entkopplung des Spulensystems gemindert werden. Simulationen des RDS-Signals für verschiedene RDS-Sequenzen zeigen jedoch noch zwei weitere Möglichkeiten auf, die ohne aufwändigen Eingriffe in der Hardware auskommen. Zum einen kann durch orthogonales Frequenzmischen mit geeignetem Frequenz- und Phasenverhältnis eine Ausrichtung der magnetischen Momente bewirkt werden. Da die benötigten Frequenzen vollständig im Sperrband des Tiefpassfilters liegen können, lässt sich damit die Pulsantwort bei hinreichend „weichem“ Umschalten zwischen der Polarisierungssequenz und der RDS-Sequenz vollständig vermeiden. Darüber hinaus zeigt sich, dass es bei Anwesenheit eines schwachen Offsetfelds (< 10 % der Rotationsfeldamplitude) zu einer Ausrichtung der magnetischen Momente kommt, wenn das magnetische Rotationsfeld seine Richtung ändert und diese Änderung nicht abrupt erfolgt, sondern das Rotationsfeld übergangsweise in ein linear oszillierendes Feld übergeht. Hingegen wird die Wirkung des Offsetfelds durch das Rotationsfeld vor und nach dem Wechsel nahezu vollständig neutralisiert, so dass damit das Störsignale generierende Schalten eines Offsetfelds ersetzt werden kann. Es ist auf diese Weise nicht möglich, Echosequenzen zu erzeugen, da hier bei der für Echosequenzen benötigten Richtungsumkehr des Rotationsfelds die zuvor aufgeprägte Phasenverteilung durch das Offsetfeld zerstört wird und somit anstelle einer Signalechogenerierung eine neue RDS-Messung gestartet wird. Obwohl es Echosequenzen mit Anfangspuls erlauben, mehr MNP Parameter zu messen, bietet dieser Ansatz dennoch entscheidende Vorteile. So ergibt sich eine massive Vereinfachung der Hardware und es sind bei gleicher Rotationsfrequenz deutlich höhere Wiederholraten möglich. Die Vermeidung von Schaltvorgängen durch die Verwendung von Offsetfeldern ermöglicht es, mit dem ursprünglichem Aufbau auch Partikelsysteme zu untersuchen, deren Relaxationszeit weit unter 3 ms liegt. Hier zeigt sich, dass sich für unterschiedliche Partikelsysteme teils sehr charakteristische Signalmuster ergeben. Diese lassen sich grob in drei Kategorien einteilen. Die erste Kategorie sind suspendierte Eindomänenpartikel mit einer nicht vernachlässigbaren Relaxationszeit. Hier handelt es sich um das bevorzugte Zielsystem für RDS, das durch die Langevin-Gleichung beschrieben werden kann. Die zweite Kategorie sind Partikelsysteme, bei denen die Relaxationsdauer vernachlässigbar ist. In diesem Fall kann der Signalverlauf mit der Langevinfunktion beschrieben werden. Die dritte Kategorie umfasst alle übrigen Partikelsysteme, insbesondere Suspensionen von MNP-Clustern, die u.a. aufgrund von Interpartikelwechselwirkung komplexe Signalverläufe ergeben, die sich praktisch nicht berechnen lassen. Spektroskopische Untersuchungen sind damit dennoch durch das Anlegen entsprechender Referenzdatenbanken möglich (Fingerprinting). Multiparametrisches RDS, d.h. die Wiederholung der Messung für z.B. unterschiedliche Amplituden oder unterschiedliche Viskositäten des Suspensionsmediums, erzeugt aufgrund mehrerer nichtlinearer Abhängigkeiten massive Unterschiede im resultierenden multidimensionalen Datensatz. Das verspricht die Erreichbarkeit hoher spektroskopischer Trennschärfen bei geeigneter Partikel- und Sequenzoptimierung. Die Simulationen und experimentellen Ergebnisse dieser Arbeit zeigen grundsätzliche Hürden und Möglichkeiten für das ebenfalls in dieser Arbeit eingeführte RDS auf. Es zeigt damit grundlegende Aspekte auf, die für die Entwicklung von RDS-Hardware und die Optimierung von MNP-Suspensionen nötig sind. Mit RDS wird in weiterführenden Arbeiten die Entwicklung von hochempfindlichen Bioassays und die Erweiterung um die räumliche Kodierung angestrebt (RDI), da der zugrunde liegende Effekt zugleich sehr vielversprechend als Grundlage für molekulare Bildgebung ist., The growing availability of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) with functionalized particle surfaces opens up far-reaching possibilities for chemical, biological and clinical analytical methods. Functionalization can cause targeted interaction with molecules, which generally also change the mobility of MNPs. Methods for characterizing MNPs such as AC-susceptometry, magnetorelaxometry (MRX), or magnetic particle spectroscopy (MPS) can measure this change in mobility in MNPs if they are MNPs whose magnetic moment is fixed in the particle. Thus, functionalized MNPs can indirectly be used to specifically measure molecular concentrations. MNPs can also be produced in biocompatible form, making them useful as in vivo markers. Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI), first published in 2005, can be viewed as an MPS extended by spatial coding using gradient fields. Thanks to biocompatible MNPs, it is an in vivo, non-invasive imaging method. With functionalized MNPs as markers, molecular imaging is thus in principle also possible, which can spatially map metabolic processes by detecting the molecules involved (biomarkers). Compared to imaging of tissue and bone structures, the diagnostic possibilities can be considerably extended by molecular imaging. Rotational drift spectroscopy (RDS) is a method developed in this work for inductively measuring the mobility of MNPs in liquid suspension. It uses the rotational drift of MNPs in rotating magnetic fields as a basis and offers the potential to measure the changes in the mobility of MNPs with a sensitivity that can potentially be several orders of magnitude higher than the methods mentioned above. The present work focuses on the applicability of this effect as a spectroscopy method. However, the properties of the RDS signal are also promising as a basis for spatial coding. Therefore, in further projects, the development of Rotating Drift Imaging (RDI) as a non-invasive method for molecular imaging will also be pursued. The basic idea of RDS is borrowed from a sensor design published in 2006 based on magnetic microparticles in a weak rotating magnetic field. The rotating magnetic field is chosen so weak that the particle cannot rotate synchronously with the external field due to viscous friction. The frequency of the resulting asynchronous rotational drift is below the frequency of the external rotating field and is dependent on the viscous friction. Due to this dependence, changes in the friction coefficient of the particle can be measured via changes in the rotational drift frequency. RDS aims to be able to measure this rotational drift in suspended MNPs via their macroscopic magnetization. Among other things, this will enable the non-invasive measurement of MNPs within opaque biological samples. MNP suspensions are large number nanoparticle ensembles and cannot be measured like a single microparticle. For inductive measurement, alignment of all magnetic moments is necessary before starting, otherwise their macroscopic magnetization adds up to zero. Due to rotational diffusion, this alignment remains only for a limited time, so that the actual measurement of the RDS signal is also possible only for a limited time. This alignment was created in the first experiments by a short magnetic field pulse. In the receiving coil, the induction due to the rotating field is typically several orders of magnitude higher than the expected signal and must be suppressed by a low-pass filter. In this low-pass filter, however, the injection of the initial pulse elicits a pulse response that can likewise be several orders of magnitude of the expected signal and decays similarly slowly to typical signals. Suppression of this pulse response was the major hurdle in the initial experiments. The initial setup had a relay circuit for pulse suppression and resulted in a dead time of 3 ms between the initial pulse and the start of the measurement. Due to this dead time, the first measurements were limited to larger agglomerates and sediments of MNPs, since only in this case there was a sufficiently long decay time of the sample magnetization. However, the behavior of such particle systems is comparatively complex and difficult to model theoretically due to mechanical and magnetic interparticle interactions. In contrast, the primary target system for RDS, single domain particles with magnetization fixed in the particle and point symmetry with respect to the friction tensor, allows the establishment of a parameterized function for the signal course. Thus, it allows a more solid evaluation of the RDS signal due to its better computability. In order to measure single domain particles in aqueous suspension with typical particle diameters around 100 nm, a reduction of the dead time to at least 1/10 is required. In principle, this problem can be mitigated by using fast semiconductor switches in conjunction with precisely tunable inductive decoupling of the coil system. Simulations of the RDS signal for various RDS sequences, however, reveal two other possibilities that do not require extensive intervention in the hardware. First, orthogonal frequency shuffling with suitable frequency and phase ratios can be used to cause alignment of the magnetic moments. Since the required frequencies can lie entirely within the stopband of the low-pass filter, this allows the pulse response to be completely avoided with sufficiently "soft" switching between the polarization sequence and the RDS sequence. Furthermore, it is shown that in the presence of a weak offset field (< 10 % of the rotating field amplitude), there is an alignment of the magnetic moments when the rotating magnetic field changes direction and this change does not occur abruptly, but the rotating field transitions to a linear oscillating field. On the other hand, the effect of the offset field is almost completely neutralized by the rotating field before and after the change, so that the switching of an offset field, which generates interference signals, can thus be replaced. It is not possible to generate echo sequences in this way, since here the previously imposed phase distribution is destroyed by the offset field when the direction of the rotation field is reversed, which is required for echo sequences, and thus a new RDS measurement is started instead of signal echo generation. Although echo sequences with an initial pulse allow more MNP parameters to be measured, this approach still offers decisive advantages. For example, there is a massive simplification of the hardware and significantly higher repetition rates are possible at the same rotation frequency. The avoidance of switching processes by using offset fields makes it possible to investigate particle systems with relaxation times far below 3 ms with the original setup. Here it is shown that for different particle systems partly very characteristic signal patterns result. These can be roughly divided into three categories. The first category is suspended single domain particles with a non- negligible relaxation time. This is the preferred target system for RDS, which can be described by the Langevin equation. The second category is particle systems where the relaxation time is negligible. In this case, the signal response can be described by the Langevin function. The third category includes all other particle systems, in particular suspensions of MNP clusters, which, due to interparticle interactions, among other things, yield complex signal courses that cannot be calculated in practice. Spectroscopic investigations are nevertheless possible by creating corresponding reference databases (fingerprinting). Multiparametric RDS, i.e. repeating the measurement for e.g. different amplitudes or different viscosities of the suspension medium, generates massive differences in the resulting multidimensional data set due to several nonlinear dependencies. This promises the achievability of high spectroscopic discriminatory power with suitable particle and sequence optimization. The simulations and experimental results of this work highlight fundamental hurdles and opportunities for RDS, which is also introduced in this work. It thus highlights fundamental aspects necessary for the development of RDS hardware and the optimization of MNP suspensions. With RDS, further work will aim to develop highly sensitive bioassays and extend them to include spatial encoding (RDI), as the underlying effect is at the same time very promising as a basis for molecular imaging.

Crystalline silicon becomes photosensitive and absorbing in the sub-bandgap spectral region if hyperdoped, i.e. supersaturated to a level above the solubility limit in thermal equilibrium, by deep impurities, such as sulfur. Here we apply femtosecond laserpulses to crystalline silicon in a SF6 atmosphere as hyperdoping method. The ultrashort laser pulses cause crystal damage and amorphous phases that would decrease quantum efficiency in a potential optoelectronic device application. We investigate five different post-hyperdoping methods: three etching techniques (ion beam etching IBE, reactive ion etching RIE, and wet-chemical etching HNA) as well as ns-annealing and minute-long thermal annealing and study their impact on crystallinity by Raman spectroscopy and absorptance in the visible and near infrared wavelength regime. We use femtosecond laser hyperdoped silicon (fs-hSi) with two different levels of surface roughness to study a potential dependence on the impact of post-treatments. In our investigation, ns-annealing leads to the best results, characterized by a high Raman crystallinity and a high remaining absorptance in the sub-bandgap spectral region of silicon. Within the used etching methods IBE outperforms the other etching methods above a certain level of fs-hSi surface roughness. We relate this to the specific anisotropic material removal behavior of the IBE technique and back this up with simulations of the effect of the various etching processes.

Luftultraschall emittierende Quellen sind heutzutage in vielen Bereichen des Lebens anzutreffen. Insbesondere an industriellen Arbeitsplätzen haben Technologien mit Hochleistungsultraschall zahlreiche und vielfältige Anwendung gefunden. Aufgrund der zunehmenden Verbreitung von Ultraschalltechnologien ist ein anwachsender Personenkreis gegenüber Luftultraschall exponiert. Arbeitgebende sind gesetzlich dazu verpflichtet, zum Schutz vor tatsächlichen und möglichen Gefährdungen der Gesundheit und Sicherheit der Beschäftigten eine Gefährdungsbeurteilung durchzuführen. Hierfür ist die Exposition gegenüber jedem Schall – also auch Ultraschall – zu ermitteln und zu bewerten. Bislang existierte jedoch kein praxistaugliches, wissenschaftlich fundiertes, standardisiertes Messverfahren, um die Exposition gegenüber Ultraschall am Arbeitsplatz valide messen zu können. Die vorliegende Arbeit widmet sich der Entwicklung eines solchen Messverfahrens, welches die Charakteristika von luftgeleitetem Ultraschall berücksichtigt und für eine Anwendung im Rahmen des Arbeitsschutzes geeignet ist. Nach dem Aufbau eines Labormesssystems zur räumlich hochauflösenden Vermessung von Luftultraschallfeldern in den Laboren der Physikalisch- Technischen Bundesanstalt (PTB) wurde das Schallfeld einer repräsentativen industriellen Luftultraschallquelle vermessen und der Einfluss einer im Schallfeld befindlichen Person untersucht. Im Ergebnis zeigten sich fein strukturierte Schallfelder mit maximalen Schalldruckpegeln von über 130 dB (re 20 μPa). Die heterogenen räumlichen Schalldruckpegelverteilungen waren durch eine omnidirektionale Schallemission der Quelle sowie lokale Schalldruckextrema mit hohen Schalldruckpegeldifferenzen von bis zu 40 dB und geringen Abständen im Millimeterbereich gekennzeichnet. Die Untersuchungsergebnisse belegten, dass die im Hörschallbereich etablierten Messverfahren für die Anwendung im Ultraschallbereich ungeeignet sind, und motivierten ein neues Messverfahren, bei dem das Mikrofon während der Datenakquise abstreifend durch das Messvolumen geführt wird. Um den Anforderungen im Arbeitsschutz nach einer praxistauglichen, zeitsparenden und gleichermaßen validen Expositionsbestimmung gerecht zu werden, wurden Untersuchungen hinsichtlich Auflösung und Mikrofongröße durchgeführt. Hierzu wurden die Schallfelddaten hinsichtlich der auftretenden Schalldruckpegel und der räumlichen Struktur mit Methoden der Statistik und Bildverarbeitung parametrisiert. Anhand der Parameter und bezogen auf zuvor definierte Akzeptanzgrenzen wurden nach einer systematischen Variation der Auflösung und Simulationen von Messungen mit unterschiedlichen Mikrofongrößen entsprechende Mindestanforderungen abgeleitet. Eine abschließende Validierung des entwickelten Messverfahrens im Rahmen von Messungen im industriellen Umfeld bestätigte die Praxistauglichkeit, Robustheit und Allgemeingültigkeit des Messverfahrens für unterschiedliche Ultraschallmodalitäten., Nowadays, sources of airborne ultrasound can be found in many areas of life. In industrial workplaces, technologies with high-performance ultrasound have found numerous and diverse applications. Due to the increasing distribution of ultrasound technologies, a growing number of people is exposed to airborne ultrasound. Employers are legally obliged to carry out risk assessments to protect employees against actual and possible risks to their health and safety. For this purpose, the exposure to sound - including ultrasound - must be determined and evaluated. Until now, however, no practical, scientifically grounded, standardized measurement procedure has existed that is able to measure the exposure to airborne ultrasound in the workplace. The present work is devoted to the development of such a measurement procedure, which considers the characteristics of airborne ultrasound and is suitable for use in the context of occupational safety and health. After developing a laboratory measuring system for spatially high-resolution measurements of airborne ultrasoundfields in the laboratories of the Physikalisch- Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), the soundfield of a representative industrial source of airborne ultrasound was measured and the influence of a person in the sound field was examined. The results showed finely structured soundfields with maximum sound pressure levels of more than 130 dB (re 20 μPa). The heterogeneous spatial distributions of sound pressure levels were characterized by an omnidirectional sound emission of the sound source and local sound pressure extrema with large differences up to 40 dB within small distances in the millimeter range. The examination results confirmed that the measurement methods established in the auditory sound range are unsuitable for use in the ultrasound range, and motivated a new measurement method, in which the microphone is guided through the measurement volume in a wiping manner during data acquisition. To meet the requirements in working protection according to a practical, time-saving and equally valid exposure determination, investigations with regard to minimum requirements for the resolution and microphone size have been executed. For this purpose, the sound field data were parameterized regarding the sound pressure levels and the spatial structure with methods of statistics and image processing. According to a systematic variation of the resolution and simulations of measurements with different microphone sizes, corresponding minimum requirements were derived from the parameters and based on previously defined acceptance limits. Over the last three decades, tremendous research efforts have been made to develop more efficient group III-Nitride based light sources for a wide range of applications. Among those, GaInN-based light emitting diodes have been extensively developed for targeting modern solid-state lighting. An external quantum efficiency of close to unity has been demonstrated recently. However, a significant drop of efficiency has been observed for longer emission wavelength, as well as under higher current injection. A thorough understanding of those loss mechanisms in the efficiency remains an open question in the nitride community, though. The objective of this work is to explore the optical properties of AlGaInN/GaN heterostructures to better understand the main mechanisms of recombination, as well as the fundamental optical properties of these structures by steady state photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. In the first part of this work, the low-temperature PL intensities of a range of GaInN/GaN quantum wells under otherwise identical conditions are compared. Normalizing the measured intensity to the absorbed power density in the quantum wells, the PL efficiencies of several samples are found to be identical, and the 100% internal quantum efficiency (IQE) can be assessed by time-resolved photoluminescence for those samples. The results confirm the assumption of 100% IQE at low temperature for those efficient samples, but also allow to estimate the absolute IQE of arbitrary samples. Furthermore, a drastic reduction of the low-temperature efficiency is found for samples with higher defect density due to Ar ion implantation. The results open up a perspective to take the loss mechanisms at low temperatures into account in the assessment of the IQE, which might help understanding the limiting factors in the efficiency of those structures. In addition, the dependence of the low-temperature efficiency on the GaN cap thickness is explained using a classical model, where the interference of the reflected light at the surface and the directed emitted light is treated carefully by considering the optical path difference and phase shift on the reflection. The second part focuses on the optical polarization properties of semipolar (11-22) AlInN/GaN layers. Polarization-resolved PL measurements showed a dominant polarization along the[11-2-3] and a less signal along the [1-100] direction. In general, a decrease of the polarization degree is observed with increasing of the degree of strain relaxation in the [1-100] direction for semipolar (11-22) AlInN/GaN samples considered in this thesis. From a theoretical model based on a k.p calculation, on the other hand, the calculated valence band (VB) indicated that AlInN has a similar VB structure like in AlN, where the the topmost valence band is the C band, followed by the A band, for a wide range of compositions. A small energy splitting of about 23 meV between the two uppermost VBs is found for sample C, which results in considerable hole distribution to the second VB A at room temperature. From this, the experimentally observed energy splitting of about 18 meV at 300 K between the two in-plane polarization components is reasonably explained. The observed trend of decreasing of the polarization degree with increasing of the strain relaxation is predicted with the model by combining calculated transition matrix elements and the thermal occupation of the second upper band A. It should be pointed out that both experimental and theoretical results bring strong evidence that AlInN has the VB order like AlN. Beside of that, the large scattering of band gap and the strong Stokes shift in AlInN layers are explained using the obtained optical selection rules for AlInN. The results would help clarifying the existing confusion about the fundamental optical properties of AlInN. Another focus of this work is to study the emission spectrum of quantum dots (QDs) embedded in pyramids etched from N-face GaInN/GaN QWs by micro-PL spectroscopy. A very sharp narrow emission line with the linewidth of around 2 meV is observed, which can be ascribed to a single dot embedded in a pyramid. From the linear and quadratic power dependencies of two adjacent lines, the ground exciton and biexciton states of a single QD are identified. Additionally, small negative biexciton binding energies between -4.7 meV and -5.8 meV are observed for different QDs, which brings the evidence of the presence of the strong Coulumb repulsive interactions between the four charged particles confined in a QD under strong piezoelectric fields. Finally, some additional information about the etching depth as well as the lateral extension of the pyramid are obtained from the energy difference of two adjacent emission lines originating from two dots embedded in a single pyramid. The energy difference between the two dots is estimated using a simple model based on a single particle in a cylindrical disk., In den letzten drei Jahrzehnten wurden außerordentliche Forschungsbemühungen unternommen, die Effizienz von Lichtquellen, die auf Gruppe-III-Nitriden basieren, in einem weiten Bereich zu verbessern. Hierunter zählt die Entwicklung GaInN-basierter LEDs zur modernen Festkörperbeleuchtung. Eine externe Quanteneffiziens von nahezu eins wurde vor kurzem realisiert. Jedoch wurde für länger Emissionswellenlängen als auch höheren Einspeisungsströmen ein signifikanter Verlust in der Effizienz beobachtet. Ein vollständiges Verständnis dieser Verlustmechanismen in der Effizienz verbleibt eine ungeklärte Frage in der Gruppe-III-Nitride-Forschung. Das Anliegen dieser Arbeit ist die Erforschung der Eigenschaften von Al-GaInN/GaN Heterostrukturen zum besseren Verständnis der Hauptmechanismen von Recombination und der fundamentalen optischen Eigenschaften dieser Strukturen durch steady state Photoluminiszent-Spektroskopie (PL). Im ersten Teil dieser Arbeit werden die tieftemperatur PL Intensitäten einer Reihe von GaInN/GaN Quantentöpfen (quantum wells) unter ansonsten gleichen Bedingungen verglichen. Wird die gemessene Intensität bezüglich der absorbierten Leistung in den Quantentöpfen normiert, sind die PL-Effizienzen einiger Proben identisch und die 100% interne Qunateneffizienz (IQE) kann durch zeitaufgelöste Photoluminiszenz für diese Proben untersucht werden. Die Resultate bestätigen die Annahme der 100% IQE bei tiefen Temperaturen für diese effizienten Proben, erlaubt aber auch die Abschätzung der absoluten IQE von beliebigen Proben. Außerdem wurde eine dramatische Reduktion der Tieftemperatureffizienz für Proben mit höherer Defektdichte aufgrund von Argornioneneinpflanzung gefunden. Diese Resultate erauben es, perspektivisch die Verlustmechanismen in der Einschätzung der IQE bei tiefen Temperaturen in Betracht zu ziehen. Dies hilft beim Verständniss der limitierenden Faktoren für die Effizienz in diesen Strukturen. Zusätzlich dazu wird die Abhängigkeit der Tieftemperatureffizienz von der GaN-Kappendicke (cap thickness) durch ein klassisches Modell erklärt, welches die Interferenz zwischen reflektiertem und dem geleiteten emittierten Lichts durch Einbeziehung des optischen Gangunterschieds und Phasensprungs durch die Reflektion einbezieht. Der zweite Teil beschreibt die optische Polarisation von semipolarem (11-22)-AlInN/GaN-Schichten. Polarisationaufgelöste PL-Messungen zeigen einen dominante Polarisation entlang der [11-23] und ein geringeres Signal entlang der [1-100] Richtung. Im Allgemeinen wird eine Reduzierung des Polarisationsgrades mit einer einhergehenden Erhöhung der Spannungspolarisation in der [1-100] Richtung für die in dieser Arbeit untersuchten semipolaren (11-22)-AlInN/GaN-Proben beobachtet. Das aus einem theoretischen Modell, welches auf k.p Rechnungen beruht, berechnete Valenzband (VB) legt jedoch nahe, dass AlInN eine ähnliche VB-Struktur wie AlN hat. In diesem ist das höchstliegende VB das C-Band, gefolgt vom A-Band für eine weiten Bereich von Zusammensetzungen. Es wurde eine kleine Energieaufspaltung von 23 meV zwischen den beiden höchstliegenden Valenzbändern in Probe C gefunden, was zu erheblicher Löcherumverteilung auf das zweite A-VB bei Raumtemperatur führt. Dadurch wird die experimentell ermittelte Energieaufspaltung von 18 meV bei 300 K zwischen den beiden flächenpolarisierten Komponenten zufriedenstellend erklärt. Der beobachtete Trend der Reduzierung des Polarisationsgrades mit ansteigender Spannungsrelaxation wird durch das Modell durch Kombination der berechneten Übergangsmatrixelementen und der thermischen Besetzung des zweiten oberen A-Bandes vorhergesagt. Es sei erwähnt das sowohl die experimentellen als auch theoretischen Ergebnisse starke Hinweise darauf geben, dass AlInN dieselbe VB-Ordnung wie AlN hat. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt dieser Arbeit ist die Untersuchung des Emissionsspektrums von Quantenpunkten (QDs) in Pyramiden, die aus N-flächigen GaInN/GaN QWs geätzt wurden, mittels Mikro-PL-Spektroskopie. Es wird eine sehr scharfe, schmale Emissionslinie mit einer Linienbreite von etwa 2 meV beobachtet, die einem einzelnen Punkt einer Pyramide zugeschrieben werden kann. Aus den linearen und quadratischen Leistungsabhängigkeiten zweier benachbarter Linien lassen sich die Grundexzitonen- und Biexzitonen-Zustände eines einzelnen QD identifizieren. Darüber hinaus werden kleine negative Biexzitonen-Bindungsenergien zwischen -4.7 meV und -5.8 meV für verschiedene QDs beobachtet. Diese weisen auf das Vorhandensein starker Coulomb'scher Abstoßungswechselwirkungen zwischen den vier geladenen Teilchen hin, die in einem QD unter starken piezoelektrischen Feldern eingeschlossen sind. Schließlich werden einige zusätzliche Informationen über die Ätztiefe sowie die seitliche Ausdehnung der Pyramide aus der Energiedifferenz zweier benachbarter Emissionslinien gewonnen, die von zwei in einer einzigen Pyramide eingebetteten Punkten stammen. Der Energieunterschied zwischen den beiden Punkten wird anhand eines einfachen Modells, das auf einem einzelnen Teilchen in einer zylindrischen Scheibe basiert, geschätzt.

Structural health monitoring systems for composite laminates using guided ultrasonic waves become more versatile with the structural integration of sensors. However, the data generated within these sensors have to be transmitted from the laminate to the outside, where polyimide-based printed circuit boards play a major role. This study investigates, to what extent integrated polyimide inlays with applied sensor bodies influence the guided ultrasonic wave propagation in glass fiber-reinforced polymer specimens. For reasons of resource efficiency, narrow specimens are used. Numerical simulations of a damping-free specimen indicate reflections of the S0-mode at the integrated inlay. This is validated experimentally with an air-coupled ultrasonic technique and a 3D laser Doppler vibrometry measurement. The experimental data are evaluated with a method including temporal and spatial continuous wavelet transformations to clearly identify periodically occurring wave packages as edge reflections and distinguish them from possible inlay reflections. However, even when separating in-plane and out-of-plane movements using the 3D measurement, no reflections at the inlays are detected. This leads to the conclusion that polyimide inlays are well suited as substrates for printed circuit boards integrated into fiber-reinforced polymer structures for structural health monitoring, since they do not significantly influence the wave propagation.

Lithium-ion batteries are state of the art and, still, their performance is constantly improving. To increase the energy density and electric conductivity, electrodes are usually calendered. Hereby, a higher degree of compaction, while reducing structural damage, can be reached by heating the calendering rolls. For industrially relevant line speeds, it is however questionable whether the contact time between electrode and roll is sufficient to reach the full positive effect of the increased temperature. This study shows a numerical approach based on the discrete element method to simulate the heating behavior of electrodes before and during calendering using a typical NMC-622-cathode as a model structure. To improve the results of existing, more simplified discrete element method simulations, which neglect the heat transfer through the carbon black–binder matrix, an extension with heat transfer through the carbon black–binder matrix has been implemented. Considering process parameters, such as calender roll temperature and line speed, as well as electrode parameters, such as thickness and porosity, this model can provide an individual calculation of the heating behavior to evaluate the need for a preheating device. Specifically, this study provides an in depth analysis of the influence of the mass loading on the heating time. It becomes clear that preheating can be of great relevance especially for high mass loadings, as well as high line speeds, as the required heating time increases by 116% when the basis weight is increased by 50%.

The design and placement of passive measures for the improvement as well as the targeted adjustment of the vibroacoustic behaviour of technical products is often based on empirically determined rules or guidelines. Due to their general validity, potential for improvement often remains unused. Simulative optimization procedures, on the other hand, are often very time-consuming due to the frequency dependence of acoustic phenomena and many iterations. This dissertation is dedicated to the development of identification criteria for passive measures in early design phases, which already provide a placement and design proposal after one or a few calculation steps. Essential adjusting screws for influencing the vibroacoustic behaviour of technical products are changes in mass, stiffness and damping. Therefore, beads, damping layers and point masses are used as representative examples of these adjusting screws. At the beginning of the thesis, a general classification of acoustic principles and measures in the methodological terminology of product development (Design to Acoustics) is given and a suitable acoustic assessment of design variants is discussed. The core of the thesis are numerical position and design studies of the exemplary measures on a rectangular plate, based on direct solutions using the finite element method. A suitable assessment quantity for the variants is the structure-borne sound level. The aim is to minimise this quantity in a defined critical frequency range. An application-oriented focus is set and a manufacturing-oriented design is taken into account. Correlations between distributions of physical quantities of the structure and suitable positions of the measure form the basis for deriving identification criteria. The studies show that identification criteria can be obtained for all three measures with different robustness regarding changing boundary conditions and critical frequency ranges. The procedure and the most suitable criteria are successfully applied on a realistic car body structure (splash wall) at the end of the thesis. The identification criteria developed thus support the process towards an acoustic-oriented design and development in the early design phases., Das Design und die Platzierung passiver Maßnahmen zur Verbesserung sowie der gezielten Einstellung des vibroakustischen Verhaltens von technischen Produkten basiert häufig auf empirisch ermittelten Regeln oder Leitlinien. Aufgrund ihrer Allgemeingültigkeit bleibt Verbesserungspotential häufig ungenutzt. Simulative Optimierungsprozeduren sind dagegen aufgrund der Frequenzabhängigkeit akustischer Phänomene und vieler Iterationen oft sehr zeit- und kostenintensiv. Die vorliegende Dissertation widmet sich der Erarbeitung von Identifikationskriterien für passive Maßnahmen in frühen Entwicklungsphasen, die bereits nach einem oder wenigen Berechnungsschritten einen Platzierungs- und Designvorschlag liefern. Wesentliche Stellschrauben bei der Beeinflussung des vibroakustischen Verhaltens von technischen Produkten sind Änderungen der Masse, Steifigkeit und Dämpfung. Als repräsentative Beispiele für diese Stellschrauben werden daher Sicken, Dämpfungslagen und Punktmassen als Maßnahmen herangezogen. Zu Beginn der Arbeit wird eine übergeordnete Einordnung akustischer Prinzipien und Maßnahmen in die methodische Terminologie der Produktentwicklung (Design to Acoustics) unternommen sowie eine geeignete akustische Bewertung von Designvarianten diskutiert. Kern der Thesis sind numerische Positions- und Designstudien der exemplarischen Maßnahmen anhand einer Rechteckplatte, auf Basis direkter Lösungen mit Hilfe der Finite-Elemente-Methode. Als eine geeignete Bewertungsgröße der Varianten ergibt sich das Körperschallmaß. Das Ziel ist es, diese Größe in einem definierten kritischen Frequenzbereich zu minimieren. Hierbei wird ein anwendungsnaher Fokus gesetzt und die fertigungsgerechte Gestaltung mitberücksichtigt. Korrelationen zwischen Verteilungen physikalischer Größen der Struktur und geeigneten Positionen der Maßnahme bilden die Grundlage zur Ableitung von Identifikationskriterien. Die Studien zeigen, dass sich Identifikationskriterien für alle drei Maßnahmen mit unterschiedlicher Robustheit gegenüber sich ändernden Randbedingungen und kritischen Frequenzbereichen ableiten lassen. Das Vorgehen und die Kriterien die sich am besten eignen werden am Ende der Arbeit an einer realistischen Karosseriestruktur (Spritzwand) erfolgreich angewendet. The integration of gallium nitride (GaN) nanowire light-emitting diodes (nanoLEDs) on flexible substrates offers opportunities for applications beyond rigid solid-state lighting (e.g., for wearable optoelectronics and bendable inorganic displays). Here, we report on a fast physical transfer route based on femtosecond laser lift-off (fs-LLO) to realize wafer-scale top–down GaN nanoLED arrays on unconventional platforms. Combined with photolithography and hybrid etching processes, we successfully transferred GaN blue nanoLEDs from a full two-inch sapphire substrate onto a flexible copper (Cu) foil with a high nanowire density (~107 wires/cm2), transfer yield (~99.5%), and reproducibility. Various nanoanalytical measurements were conducted to evaluate the performance and limitations of the fs-LLO technique as well as to gain insights into physical material properties such as strain relaxation and assess the maturity of the transfer process. This work could enable the easy recycling of native growth substrates and inspire the development of large-scale hybrid GaN nanowire optoelectronic devices by solely employing standard epitaxial LED wafers (i.e., customized LED wafers with additional embedded sacrificial materials and a complicated growth process are not required).

Identification of a large-amplitude Alfvén wave decaying into a pair of ion-acoustic and daughter Alfvén waves is one of the major goals in the observational studies of space plasma nonlinearity. In this study, the decay instability is analytically evaluated in the 2-D wavenumber domain spanning the parallel and perpendicular directions to the mean magnetic field. The growth-rate determination of the density perturbations is based on the Hall MHD (magnetohydrodynamic) wave–wave coupling theory for circularly polarized Alfvén waves. The diagrams of the growth rates versus the wavenumber and propagation angle derived in analytical studies are replaced by 2-D wavenumber distributions and compared with the corresponding wavevector spectrum of density and magnetic field fluctuations. The actual study reveals a perpendicular spectral pattern consistent with the result of a previous study based on 3-D hybrid numerical simulations. The wavevector signature of the decay instability observed in the two-dimensional wavenumber domain ceases at values of plasma beta larger than β=0.1. Growth-rate maps serve as a useful tool for predictions of the wavevector spectrum of density or magnetic field fluctuations in various scenarios for the wave–wave coupling processes developing at different stages in space plasma turbulence.

Stadtbusse weisen einen relativ hohen Energiebedarf zum Heizen und Klimatisieren des Fahrgastraums gegenüber anderen Fahrzeugarten wie Pkws oder Lkws auf, wofür die vergleichsweise große Außenfläche und die häufigen Türöffnungen ursächlich sind. Bei aktuellen batterieelektrischen Stadtbussen mit einem elektrischen Heizer reduziert sich an kalten Tagen mit Umgebungstemperaturen unter 0 °C die Fahrreichweite um etwa 50 %. Eine Wärmepumpe kann die Fahrreichweite in diesen Fällen deutlich erhöhen, wobei die derzeit eingesetzten Kältemittel R134a und R1234yf eine eingeschränkte Heizeffizienz aufweisen und darüber hinaus aus ökologischen Gründen umstritten sind. Mit dem natürlichen Kältemittel R744 (Kohlenstoffdioxid, CO2) werden diese Defizite aufgehoben. Ein modulares Wärmepumpen- und Klimaanlagensystem ermöglicht in einem Stadtbus die Verwendung von Pkw-Komponenten. Die Anzahl der Module kann bei den lokal begrenzten Einsatzgebieten von Stadtbussen an die jeweiligen Kundenbedürfnisse und klimatischen Bedingungen angepasst werden. Durch Skaleneffekte der Komponenten aus der Pkw-Produktion ist zudem von einer Erhöhung der Wirtschaftlichkeit auszugehen. Im Rahmen der vorliegenden Arbeit werden autarke, umschaltbare R744-Wärmepumpenmodule für Stadtbusse auf Basis von Pkw-Komponenten hinsichtlich der optimalen Modulanzahl und der Energieeffizienz wissenschaftlich untersucht. Bisher liegen keine wissenschaftlichen Untersuchungen zu modularen Konzepten in der Fahrzeugklimatisierung vor. Darüber hinaus werden die Heiz- und Kühlbedarfe des Innenraums bei realitätsnahen Einsatzszenarien analysiert und daraus Minimalanforderungen für batterieelektrische Stadtbusse abgeleitet. Diese Ergebnisse werden zur Bewertung der R744-Module herangezogen. Mit dem konzipierten Prototypen eines R744-Moduls wird die Funktionsfähigkeit nachgewiesen und Messungen zur Validierung eines Simulationsmodells durchgeführt. Das Simulationsmodell des R744-Prototypenmoduls liefert eine gute Übereinstimmung mit den Messdaten. Im Modell werden anschließend weitere Optimierungsmaßnahmen umgesetzt und darauf aufbauend die Maximalleistungen ermittelt sowie eine energieeffiziente Regelungsstrategie hergeleitet. Die Simulationsuntersuchungen haben gezeigt, dass im Heizfall bei geringen Lasten die aktive Anzahl an Modulen zugunsten eines energieeffizienteren Betriebs zu reduzieren sind, während im Kühlfall alle Module zu betreiben sind. In den Referenzstädten München, Stockholm, Ankara und Dubai sind drei Module zum Heizen und Kühlen eines charakteristischen Stadtbus-Innenraums für ein typisches Betriebsjahr erforderlich. Für Granada werden zwei Module und für Moskau vier Module benötigt. Die Fahrreichweite eines batterieelektrischen Stadtbusses kann im Heizfall bei -15 °C Umgebungstemperatur mit drei R744-Modulen um bis zu 52 % gegenüber einer R134a-Wärmepumpe mit elektrischem Heizer erhöht werden. Im Jahresenergievergleich dieser Technologien werden in den genannten gemäßigten bis kalten Referenzstädten 25 % des elektrischen Stroms zum Heizen und Klimatisieren und somit entsprechend Treibhausgas-Emissionen eingespart. Die vorgestellten R744-Wärmepumpenmodule auf Basis von Pkw-Komponenten stellen eine mögliche Schlüsseltechnologie zur Effizienzsteigerung und Verbreitung von batterieelektrischen Stadtbussen für einen Großteil der weltweiten urbanen Klimaregionen dar., City buses exhibit relatively high energy demands for heating and air conditioning the passenger cabin compared to other types of vehicles such as cars or trucks. This is due to the large external area and the frequent door openings. Heating a current battery electric city bus on cold days with ambient temperatures below 0 °C will reduce the driving range by approximately 50%. For this application a heat pump can increase the driving range significantly. The currently used refrigerants R134a and R1234yf have limited heating efficiency and are also topics of controversy due to their negative environmental impact. With the natural refrigerant R744 (carbon dioxide, CO2) these issues are resolved. A modular heat pump and air conditioning system makes it possible to use passenger car components in a city bus. The number of modules can be adapted to customer requirements and the climatic conditions determined for the locally limited areas where city buses are operational. Economies of scale will be achieved by using components from the passenger car industry. In the present work independent reversible R744 heat pump modules for city buses based on passenger car components are scientifically investigated with regard to the ideal number of modules and energy efficiency. So far, no scientific studies on modular concepts in vehicle HVAC systems are known. In addition, the heating and cooling demands of the cabin in realistic use cases are analysed and their minimum is deduced for battery electric city buses. This is used to evaluate the R744 modules. With the designed prototype of a R744 module the functionality is verified and measurements are taken to validate a simulation model. The simulation model of the R744 prototype module shows good correlation to the measurement data. Further optimisation steps are implemented in the model and, based on this, the maximum performance is determined and an energy-efficient control strategy is derived. The simulation studies have shown that in heating mode the active number of modules is reduced at low energy demands to ensure energy-efficient operation, while in cooling mode all modules should be activated. In the reference cities of Munich, Stockholm, Ankara and Dubai, three modules for heating and cooling a characteristic city bus cabin are required for a typical year of operation. Two modules are needed in Granada and four modules in Moscow. The driving range of a battery electric city bus can be improved in heating mode at -15 °C ambient temperature by up to 52% with three R744 modules compared to an R134a heat pump with electric heater. The comparison of annual energy consumption in the abovementioned moderately cold to cold reference cities shows that 25% of the electricity for heating and air conditioning as well as corresponding ratios of greenhouse gas emissions are saved. The presented R744 heat pump modules based on passenger car components represent a potential key technology for increasing the efficiency and market share of battery electric city buses for a large part of the world’s urban climate regions.

Das Versagen von Stahlstrukturen beginnt mit der Schädigung auf Mikrostrukturebene durch das Lösen von Verbindungen infolge Überbeanspruchung. Das Materialverhalten wird mit einem phänomenologischen Ansatz der Kontinuumsschädigungsmechanik (CDM) beschrieben, wobei das Konzept von Poren, die sich bilden, anwachsen und verbinden, aus der Literatur übernommen wird. Durch die Berücksichtigung von Viskoplastizität, isotroper und kinematischer Verfestigung, einer Strain Memory Surface sowie isotroper Schädigungsentwicklung wird eine zutreffende Beschreibung zyklischer und ratenabhängiger Beanspruchungen erreicht. Die Anpassung der eingeführten Modellparameter an das in Versuchen beobachtete Materialverhalten erfolgt für den Materialpunkt mit Hilfe von evolutionären Algorithmen. Innerhalb der zuvor festgelegten Grenzen stellt der zum kleinsten Zielfunktionswert zugehörige Parametersatz die optimale Anpassung an unterschiedliche Beanspruchungssituationen dar. Zur Untersuchung des nichtlinearen Verhaltens von zwei- und dreidimensionalen Strukturen wird eine Finite-Element-Methode in Weggrößenformulierung verwendet. Zur Vermeidung netzabhängiger Ergebnisse wird eine Gradientenformulierung herangezogen, durch welche die lokal entwickelte Schädigung über ein Gebiet verteilt und die nichtlokale Schädigung als zusätzlicher Freiwert eingeführt wird. Eine interne Länge bestimmt die Größe der Prozesszone und limitiert die Abmessungen der Elemente im Schädigungsbereich. Durch die im Vergleich deutlich größeren Profilgeometrien im Stahlbau ergibt sich ein hoher Berechnungsaufwand für das CDM-Modell. Aufgrund der Beschaffenheit von Stahlbauteilen stellen Balkenelemente einen geeigneten Modellansatz für lineare Materialgesetze dar, die am Integrationspunkt um Plastizität erweitert werden können. Ein degeneratives Materialverhalten kann jedoch nicht abgebildet werden. Schädigung und Bauteilversagen stellen lokal begrenztes Phänomene dar, weshalb das konventionelle Balkenelement mit Verschiebungs- und Verdrehfreiheitsgraden um eine zusätzliche Ansatzfunktion sowie einen weiteren Freiheitsgrad zur Beschreibung eines Knickes ergänzt wird. Die Modellparameter des Balkenmodells werden ermittelt, indem eine Berechnung mit dem CDM-Modell für ein Referenzprofil durchgeführt und das maximale Moment und die plastischen Arbeiten beider Modelle gegenübergestellt werden. Abschließend wird das Versagens eines Stahlrahmens mit Hilfe des vorgetellten Mehrskalenmodells untersucht., The failure of steel structures initiates with damage at the microstructure caused by breaking bonds as a consequence of excessive loading. The material behavior of steel is described with a phenomenological approach in the framework of continuum damage mechanics adopting the concept of microvoids, which nucleate, grow and coalesce, from the literature. With the consideration of viscoplasticity, isotropic and kinematic hardening, a strain memory surface and an isotropic damage evolution an appropriate description of cyclic and rate-dependent loading can be achieved. The adjustment of the introduced model parameters based on experimentally observed material behavior is conducted at the material point with the help of evolutionary algorithms. Within preset boundaries the set of parameters with the minimum value of the objective function defines the optimal adjustment of the presented model for different loading conditions. For the analysis of the nonlinear behavior of two- and three-dimensional structures a displacement-based finite-element-method is employed. To avoid mesh-dependent results an implicit gradient formulation is taken into account by which the locally developed damage is distributed across the surrounding region. The nonlocal damage is introduced as an additional degree of freedom. An internal length defines the size of the process zone and restricts the maximum mesh size of the elements used in the damaged region. In comparison with much larger dimensions of steel structural members the computational effort of the proposed CDM model is substantial. Because of the dimensions of steel structural members beam elements are an appropriate approach for modelling linear material laws and can be extended to describe plasticity at the integration point. However, deteriorated material behavior cannot be modelled without mesh dependency. Damage and component failure represent locally very limited phenomenona, which is why the conventional beam element with displacement and rotational degrees of freedom is supplemented by an additional ansatz function and a further degree of freedom to describe a kink within the member. The model parameters for the beam element are determined by performing a computation with the CDM model for a reference section and comparing the maximum bending moment and plastic work of the two approaches. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist ein präzises Referenzmessgerät für Wirkleistung zu konstruieren, das mit sehr kleinen Messunsicherheiten im Frequenzbereich bis 150 kHz als Sekundär- oder Gebrauchsnormal nutzbar ist. Aufbauend auf der modularen Leistungsmessgeräteserie LMG600 der Firma ZES ZIMMER Electronic Systems GmbH wird ein hochpräziser Messkanal entwickelt, Referenzlasten für den Abgleich konstruiert und die erreichbare Genauigkeit abgeschätzt. Im Rahmen der Entwicklung werden folgende Themen bearbeitet: • Entwicklung eines breitbandigen Eingangsspannungsteilers für den Spannungsmesskanal mit großer Messbereichsdynamik der Messbereichsnominalwerte von 30 mV bis 500 V und mit kleiner Messunsicherheit im Frequenzbereich bis 150 kHz. • Konstruktion eines breitbandigen Shuntmoduls für den Strommesskanal mit der Messbereichsdynamik der Messbereichsnominalwerte von 2,5 mA bis 10 A in diesem Frequenzbereich. • Anpassen des Signalpfads im Leistungsmessgerät, der Signalkonditionierung, Messbereichsumschaltung, Signalfilter und der Analog-Digital-Wandler sowie deren Referenzspannungsquellen auf die hohen Genauigkeitsanforderungen für die Strom-, Spannungs- und Wirkleistungsmessung. • Für den Phasenabgleich wird eine Toroidluftspule als Referenzlast aufgebaut und deren Unsicherheit abgeschätzt. Die dabei erzielten Ergebnisse sind: • Das Gebrauchsnormal REF600 ist erfolgreich fertiggestellt und die Genauigkeit experimentell in unterschiedlichen Messbereichen mit Signalen verschiedener Frequenzen und Leistungsfaktoren entwicklungsbegleitend überprüft. • Durch Messungen bei der Physikalisch-Technischen Bundesanstalt in Braunschweig PTB konnte die spezifizierte Messgenauigkeit bestätigt werden. • REF600 wird im Kalibrierlabor bei ZES die breitbandige Wirkleistungsreferenz zum Kalibrieren der Seriengeräte darstellen., The aim of this study is the construction of a precision reference instrument for active power. With its low measurement uncertainty, the instrument is appropriate for the use as a transfer standard for active power in the frequency range up to 150 kHz. Based on the precision power analyzer LMG600 series manufactured by ZES ZIMMER Electronic Systems GmbH, a high-precision measuring channel REF600 is developed, a reference load for the phase adjustment is constructed and estimated with reasonable accuracy. Within the scope of the development the topics that will be addressed include: * Development of a wideband divider for the voltage channel with the measuring range dynamic nominal from 30 mV to 500 V and small uncertainty in the frequency range up to 150 kHz. * Construction of a wideband shunt module for the current channel with the measuring range dynamic nominal from 2.5 mA to 10 A in this frequency range. * Modification of the signal path in the analog to digital converter unit with programmable gain amplifier, signalfilter, AD-converter and reference voltages, to the accuracy requirements for current-, voltage and power measurement. * To estimate the measurement accuracy during the development process and for the phase adjustment a toroidal air-core coil is being built and the accuracy is estimated. Machine Learning Tools in Fluid Mechanics, vol. 2

The Josephson Arbitrary Waveform Synthesizer (JAWS)generates spectrally pure quantized AC voltages. It is also called pulse-driven AC Josephson voltage standard. To simplify the existing experimental set-up of the JAWS by reducing the number of RF cables at room temperature, to lower the cost of Pulse Pattern Generator and to increase the output voltage of JAWS in the future, on-chip RF power dividers were developed and continuously optimized. This thesis investigates the on-chip power dividers for JAWS focusing on the numerical simulation, ist fabrication process, and measurement of the integrated circuits at 4K. In this work, there were three iteration steps in the circuit development. Firstly, two different types of RF power dividers were developed: the two-stage serialparallel and the one-stage Wilkinson power divider. The outputs of the power dividers were integrated with bias-tee circuits and series arrays of non-stacked SNS type Josephson junctions (S: superconductor (Nb), N: normal metal (NbxSi1-x)). Both types of power dividers were successfully integrated into JAWS. With the Wilkinson power divider, output AC voltages of 18 mV (RMS) were obtained at a clock frequency of 15 GHz combined with a test array of 1,000 Josephson junctions. The test chip containing the serial-parallel power divider and a test array of 2,000 Josephson junctions generated RMS output voltages of 22 mV. In the second step, gained knowledge was used. And two new modified broadband Wilkinson power dividers were investigated: the one-stage three-section Wilkinson power divider has extended bandwidth compared to one-stage singlesection Wilkinson divider; the two-stage single-section Wilkinson divider has no phase shift and good isolation between the outputs in contrast to the two-stage serial-parallel power divider. Both modified dividers were integrated with triplestacked Josephson junction series arrays successfully. Spectrally pure sinusoidal waveforms were also successfully synthesized with both types of power dividers. With the one-stage three-sectionWilkinson power divider combined with a test array of 3,000 Josephson junctions, a RMS voltage of nearly 53 mV was obtained at a clock frequency of 15 GHz. As for the two-stage single-sectionWilkinson power divider combined with a test array of 6,000 Josephson junctions, RMS output voltages of about 105 mV was generated. To further increase the synthesized AC output voltage, the two-stage serialparallel power divider and one-stage single-sectionWilkinson divider were finally integrated with larger Josephson junction arrays (maximum 20,400 junctions per RF channel). The experimental results demonstrates a significant step forward. So far, a maximum RMS voltage of 600 mV per JAWS chip (300 mV per RF channel) has been realized. In dieser Arbeit werden diese On-Chip-Leistungsteiler für JAWS hinsichtlich der numerischen Simulation, ihres Herstellungsprozesses und der Messung der integrierten Schaltungen bei 4K untersucht. In dieser Arbeit gab es drei Iterationsschritte in der Schaltungsentwicklung. Im ersten Schritt wurden zwei unterschiedliche Typen von HF-Leistungsteilern entwickelt: der zweistufige Seriell-Parallel-Teiler und der einstufige ein-Sektion Wilkinson-Teiler. Die Ausgänge der Teiler wurden mit Bias-Tee-Schaltungen und Reihenschaltungen aus ungestapelten SNS-Josephson-Kontakten integriert. (S: Supraleiter (Nb), N: Normalleiter (NbxSi1-x)). Beide Arten von Leistungsteilern wurden erfolgreich in JAWS integriert. Mit insgesamt 1.000 Kontakten und einstufigem Wilkinson-Teiler wurden spektral reine Sinuswellen mit effektiven Ausgangsspannungen von 18 mV bei einer Taktfrequenz von 15 GHz erfolgreich synthetisiert. Der Test-Chip mit dem seriell parallelen Teiler und einer Testschaltung von 2.000 Josephson-Kontakten erzeugte effektive Ausgangsspannungen von 22 mV. Im zweiten Schritt wurden die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse genutzt, um zwei neue modifizierte breitbandige Wilkinson-Teiler zu entwerfen: Der einstufige Drei-Sektionen-Wilkinson-Teiler hat erweiterte Bandbreite im Vergleich zum einstufigen Ein-Sektion-Wilkinson-Teiler; der zweistufige Ein-Sektion-Wilkinson-Teiler hat keine Phaseverschiebung und gute Isolation zwischen den Ausgängen gegenüber dem zweistufigen Seriell-Parallel-Teiler. Beide modifizierten Teiler wurden in Reihenschaltungen mit dreifach gestapelten Josephson-Kontakten integriert. Spektral reine Sinuswellenformen wurden mit beiden Leistungsteilern erfolgreich synthetisiert. Mit dem einstufigen Drei-Sektionen-Wilkinson-Leistungsteiler und 3.000 Kontakten wurden spektral reine Wellenformen mit effektiven Ausgangsspannungen von 53mV bei einer Taktfrequenz von 15GHzsynthetisiert. Der JAWS-Chip mit zweistufigem Wilkinson-Leistungsteiler und insgesamt 6.000 Kontakten erzeugte spektral reine Sinuswellen mit effektiven Ausgangsspannungen von 105 mV. Um die synthetisierte AC-Ausgangsspannung weiter zu erhöhen, wurden anschließend der zweistufige Seriell-Parallel-Teiler und der einstufige Ein-Sektion-Wilkinson-Teiler mit großen Josephson-Reihenschaltungen integriert (max. 20.400 Kontakten pro HF-Kanal). Das Messergebnis stellt einen großen Schritt voran dar. So konnte eine maximale effektive Ausgangsspannung von 600mVpro JAWS-Chip (300 mV pro HF-Kanal) erzeugt werden. Bei geschmierten Systemen gibt es verschiedene Betriebszustände, bei denen das Angebot an Schmierstoff eingeschränkt sein kann, wie zum Beispiel Leerlauf oder Ausfall der Ölversorgung. Es kommt zu Mangelschmierung und Teilfüllung, die makroskopisch im gesamten System oder auch nur lokal auftreten können. Diese Betriebszustände können für die Zuverlässigkeit kritisch sein. Die vorliegende Arbeit widmet sich insbesondere der Fragestellung, welchen Einfluss die Fluidmenge selbst in diesen Reibregimen hat und wie die Fluidmenge den Übergang von der Trockenreibung zur hydrodynamischen Reibung steuert. In der konventionellen Betrachtungsweise, wie zum Beispiel der Stribeck-Kurve, wird die Fluidmenge nicht als Einflussgröße aufgeführt, obwohl die Stribeck-Kurve genau diesen Übergang abbildet. Für die Behandlung dieser Fragestellung werden Versuche mit zwei Tribometern auf unterschiedlichen Größenskalen und Simulationen mit einem neuartigen Modell durchgeführt, welches für teilgefüllte Spalte und Festkörperkontakte geeignet ist. Der Fokus dieser Studien liegt auf der Analyse der tribologischen und kontaktmechanischen Eigenschaften der untersuchten Reibszenarien und der Beschreibung des expliziten Fluidflusses. Bei den Experimenten zeigt sich, dass bereits Kleinstmengen an Fluid die Reibzahl erheblich reduzieren und dass komplexe Wechselwirkungen mit anderen Parametern, wie der Topographie, der Relativgeschwindigkeit und der Normalkraft, existieren. Bei vielen Reibszenarien steigt die Reibzahl im Bereich der Vollfüllung mit steigendem Füllgrad an. Im Sinne eines optimierten Lasttrageverhaltens kann das Reibsystem also auch zu viel Fluid enthalten. Bei den Versuchen mit Beobachtung der Kontaktzone können ausgeprägte Flussmuster identifiziert werden, die sich bestimmten Reibregimen zuordnen lassen. Die Experimente werden darüber hinaus anhand von Kennzahlen miteinander verglichen. Die Reibkörper der Experimente werden topographisch vermessen und in den Simulationen als Reibgeometrie verwendet. So wird das jeweilige Reibszenario präzise nachgebildet. Die Simulationsergebnisse zeigen qualitativ ähnliche Reibcharakteristiken wie die Experimente, ermöglichen vertiefte Analysen des Spalts und der Fluidverteilung und können einen breiteren Parameterbereich abdecken. Die Absolutwerte der Reibkennwerte liegen allerdings bei einigen Szenarien auseinander. Abschließend wird daher bewertet, inwieweit die Wahl von repräsentativen Ausschnitten das Simulationsergebnis beeinflusst und welchen Einfluss lokale Kleinstmengen an Fluid auf das Reibverhalten des Gesamtsystems haben., In lubricated systems, there are various operating conditions in which the supply of lubricant may be limited, such as idling or failure of the oil supply. Lack of lubrication and partial filling occur, which can be macroscopic in the entire system or only local. These operating conditions can be critical for reliability. The present work is devoted in particular to the question of what influence the fluid quantity itself has in these friction regimes and how the fluid quantity controls the transition from dry friction to hydrodynamic friction. In the conventional approach, such as the Stribeck curve, the fluid quantity is not listed as an influencing variable, although the Stribeck curve depicts precisely this transition. To address this issue, experiments with two tribometers on different size scales and simulations with a novel model suitable for partially filled gaps and solid contacts are carried out. The focus of these studies is on the analysis of the tribological and contact mechanical properties of the investigated friction scenarios and the description of the explicit fluid flow. The experiments show that even the smallest amounts of fluid significantly reduce the coefficient of friction and that complex interactions exist with other parameters, such as the topography, the relative velocity and the normal force. In many friction scenarios, the coefficient of friction increases in the hydrodynamic friction regime as the filling level increases. In terms of optimised load-bearing behaviour, the friction system can therefore also contain too much fluid. In the experiments with observation of the contact zone, distinctive flow patterns can be identified that can be assigned to specific friction regimes. The experiments are also compared with each other using key figures. The friction bodies of the experiments are measured topographically and used as a friction geometry in the simulations. In this way, the respective friction scenario is precisely simulated. The simulation results show qualitatively similar friction characteristics as the experiments, allow in-depth analyses of the gap and fluid distribution and can cover a wider parameter range. However, the absolute values of the friction characteristics differ for some scenarios. In conclusion, it is therefore evaluated to what extent the choice of representative domains influences the simulation result and what influence local minute amounts of fluid have on the friction behaviour of the overall system.

This work comprises a multiparametric analysis of particle-matrix interactions using magnetic particle spectroscopy (MPS) and the corresponding imaging modality magnetic particle imaging (MPI). To investigate particle-matrix interactions, the dynamic magnetization response of magnetic nanoparticles to externally applied alternating magnetic fields is evaluated. Due to the nonlinear magnetization characteristics of magnetic nanoparticles, the higher harmonics of the magnetization resulting from the periodic excitation in particular serve as source of information. The measurements presented were realized with a temperature-controlled MPS setup implemented as part of this work. For multiparametric investigations, measurement parameters such as the magnetic field strength of the externally applied field, the excitation frequency, the sample temperature, the dynamic viscosity of the medium surrounding the particles or particle systems and related properties were varied. Based on the results, conclusions are drawn about physical relationships and the quantifiability of measurement results and their transferability to the MPI imaging technique are discussed. It is shown that particle-matrix interactions in MPS can be resolved in the millisecond range. Temperature-dependent measurement results are traced back to the dominant relaxation mechanism of the used particle system. With the help of Fokker-Planck simulations, the structure of multicore particles is clarified from a viscosity series based on CoFe2O4 particles. Furthermore, the influence of the dynamic viscosity on the measurement data is discussed. Magnetization curves reconstructed from the measurement data are used to analyze thermal interactions with the carrier medium. Furthermore, the spectral decomposition of the magnetization harmonics is introduced and applied to derive temperature and viscosity dependent mapping functions. Due to the degree of similarity of the measurement principles, the findings from experimental MPS data can be transferred to the MPI imaging method in order to assess and validate the quantifiability of the method. Dilution series of particle suspensions serve to characterize both the MPS setup and the institute’s custom-built dual-frequency MPI scanner. Finally, realized 2D and 3D MPI measurement results are shown and dual-frequency mobility MPI data of different viscosity levels are presented., Diese Arbeit umfasst eine multiparametrische Analyse von Partikel-Matrix-Wechselwirkungen unter der Verwendung der Methode Magnetic Particle Spectroscopy (MPS) und der Bildgebungsmodalität Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI). Zur Untersuchung wird die dynamische Magnetisierungsantwort magnetischer Nanopartikel auf externe magnetische Wechselfelder ausgewertet. Aufgrund der nichtlinearen Magnetisierungskennlinie der magnetischen Nanopartikel dienen insbesondere die aus der periodischen Anregung resultierenden höheren Harmonischen der Magnetisierung als Informationsquelle. Die vorgestellten Messungen wurden mit einem im Rahmen der Arbeit umgesetzten temperaturgeregelten MPS-Aufbau realisiert. Für die multiparametrischen Untersuchungen wurden Messparameter wie die magnetische Feldstärke des extern angelegten Feldes, die Anregungsfrequenz, die Probentemperatur, die dynamische Viskosität des die Partikel umgebenden Mediums oder Partikeleigenschaften, bzw. -systeme variiert. Anhand der Ergebnisse werden Rückschlüsse auf physikalische Zusammenhänge getätigt und die Quantifizierbarkeit von Messergebnissen sowie deren Übertragbarkeit auf das Bildgebungsverfahren MPI diskutiert. Es wird gezeigt, dass Partikel-Matrix-Wechselwirkungen im MPS im Millisekundenbereich aufgelöst werden können. Temperaturabhängige Messergebnisse werden auf den dominierenden Relaxationsmechanismus des vorliegenden Partikelsystems zurückgeführt. Unter Zuhilfenahme von Fokker-Planck -Simulationen wird aus einer auf CoFe2O4 -Partikeln basierenden Viskositätsserie der strukturelle Aufbau von Multikernpartikeln aufgeklärt und der Einfluss der dynamischen Viskosität auf die Messdaten diskutiert. Aus den Messdaten rekonstruierte Magnetisierungskurven dienen der Analyse von thermischen Interaktionen mit dem Trägermedium. Die spektrale Zerlegung der Magnetisierungsharmonischen wird eingeführt und angewendet, um temperatur- und viskositätsabhängige Abbildungsfunktionen abzuleiten. Aufgrund des Verwandschaftsgrades der Messprinzipien können die Erkenntnisse aus experimentellen MPS-Daten auf das Bildgebungsverfahren MPI übertragen werden, um die Quantifizierbarkeit der Methode zu beurteilen und zu validieren. Verdünnungsserien von Partikelsuspensionen dienen der Charakterisierung beider Systeme, der des MPS-Aufbaus und der des am Institut gefertigten Zwei-Frequenz-MPIScanners. An optical frequency comb (OFC) has a diverse application portfolio, including spectroscopy, ranging, photonic computing, optical communication, and microwave photonics. The silicon photonics technology can reshape all these application areas. It offers compact, energy-efficient, and high-performance integrated photonic systems-on-chip at low cost and high reliability. The primary motivation of the thesis has been to conceptualize and implement the optical frequency comb technology in high bandwidth optical signal processing and optical communication systems in an integrated silicon photonic chip. This thesis explores ways to synthesize and utilize a special kind of OFC in a silicon photonic integrated circuit, where all the comb lines are of equal amplitudes and phase-locked. Such a comb results in a sinc-shaped Nyquist pulse sequence. These pulses can transmit data with the maximum possible symbol rate. Moreover, signal converters that link the analog and digital realms can efficiently leverage orthogonality to optimally utilize the optoelectronic bandwidth if Nyquist pulses are used for sampling. This work presents flexible optical Nyquist pulse generation with repetition rates up to 30 GHz and pulse bandwidths up to 90 GHz using integrated silicon photonic modulators. Besides generating such pulses, this thesis presents a novel source-free all-optical Nyquist pulse sampling technique based on the convolution of the signal spectrum with a rectangular phase-locked OFC. The method presented here can achieve sampling rates of three to four times the optoelectronic bandwidths of the incorporated optical or electronic devices. Further, this sampling technique has been extended to demonstrate an integrated time-magnifier system based on a SiN microring resonator. The proposed OFC-based sampling technique has been further extended to demonstrate an integrated signal agnostic Nyquist transceiver that enables the transmission of signals with the theoretically maximum possible symbol rate in a rectangular bandwidth. Several such rectangular spectral channels were combined into a superchannel and de-multiplexed separately. Moreover, due to its signal agnostic nature, the transceiver can be used for digital communication and analog radio-over-fiber links. Additionally, this thesis will propose and experimentally demonstrate one modulation format aggregation scheme using linear signal processing with integrable photonic and electronic components and reduced system complexity., Ein optischer Frequenzkamm hat vielfältige Anwendungen, unter anderem Spektroskopie, Ranging, photonisches Computing, optische Kommunikation und Mikrowelle-Photonik. Die Silizium-Photonik-Technologie ist ein wichtiger Bestandteil all dieser Anwendungsbereiche. Sie bietet die Möglichkeit, kompakte, energieeffiziente und hochleistungsfähige photonische Systeme auf Chips bei niedrigen Kosten und hoher Zuverlässigkeit zu integrieren. Die Hauptmotivation der Arbeit war es, die Frequenzkämme für das optische Signal-Processing auf integrierten Chips zu realisieren. In der Arbeit werden Wege zur Synthese und Nutzung einer speziellen Art von optischen Frequenzkämmen untersucht, bei der alle Kammlinien die gleiche Amplitude haben und in bestimmter Weise phasengekoppelt sind. Ein solcher ein Kamm führt auf eine sinc-förmige Nyquist-Impulsfolge. Diese Impulse ermöglichen eine Datenübertragung mit der maximal übertragbaren Symbolrate in einer gegebenen Bandbreite. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wird eine flexible optische Nyquist-Pulserzeugung mit Repetitionsraten bis 30 GHz und Pulsbandbreiten bis 90 GHz unter Verwendung integrierter Silizium-Photonik-Modulatoren demonstriert. Neben der Generierung solcher Pulse stellt diese Arbeit eine neuartige quellenfreie rein optische Nyquist-Puls-Sampling-Technik vor, die auf der Faltung des Signalspektrums mit einem rechteckigen phasengekoppelten optischen Frequenzkamm basiert. Das hier vorgestellte Verfahren kann Abtastraten erreichen, die drei- bis viermal so hoch sind wie die optoelektronischen Bandbreiten der eingebauten optischen oder elektronischen Geräte. Darüber hinaus wurde diese Abtasttechnik erweitert, um ein integriertes Time-Stretching-Verfahren basierend auf einem SiN-Mikroringresonator zu demonstrieren. Die vorgeschlagene frequenzkammbasierte Technik wurde ausgenutzt, um einen integrierten signalunabhängigen Nyquist-Transceiver zu realisieren, der die Übertragung von Signalen mit der theoretisch maximal möglichen Symbolrate in einer rechteckigen Bandbreite ermöglicht. Mehrere solcher rechteckiger Spektralkanäle wurden zu einem Superkanal kombiniert und separat gedemultiplext. Darüber hinaus wird in dieser Arbeit ein Modulationsformat-Aggregationsschema vorschlagen und experimentell demonstriert, wobei lineare Signalverarbeitung mit integrierbaren photonischen und elektronischen Komponenten und reduzierter System-Komplexität eingesetzt wird.

In batterieelektrischen Fahrzeugen werden Wärmepumpen zur energieeffizienten Beheizung eingesetzt. Wird die Umgebungsluft als Wärmequelle genutzt, kann sich bei niedrigen Umgebungslufttemperaturen Reif auf der Oberfläche des Verdampfers bzw. Umgebungswärmeübertragers niederschlagen. Bei signifikanter Bereifung muss der Wärmeübertrager enteist werden. Das übergeordnete Ziel der Arbeit ist die Analyse und energetische Bewertung eines zyklischen Ver- und Enteisungsbetriebs einer Pkw-Wärmepumpe. Es werden unterschiedliche MPET-Wärmeübertragerkonstruktionen hinsichtlich ihrer Eignung für einen zyklischen Ver- und Enteisungsbetrieb als Direktverdampfer analysiert und bewertet. Die besonderen zusätzlichen Anforderungen an einen Wärmeübertrager für diesen Betrieb sind ein spätes Versperren des Luftpfads durch die Reifbildung und das Rückhalten einer möglichst geringen Schmelzwassermasse nach einer Enteisung. Die Wärmeübertragereigenschaften Lamellenabstand, Lamellenüberstand, Wärmeübertragertiefe sowie Entfall von Louvern und unterschiedliche Oberflächenbeschichtungen werden hinsichtlich der genannten Anforderungen experimentell analysiert. Es stellt sich heraus, dass Wärmeübertrager mit gelouverten Lamellen, unbeschichteter Oberfläche, Lamellenabständen ≥1,15mm und zunehmender Tiefe für einen effizienten zyklischen Ver- und Enteisungsprozess förderlich sind. Ein neuartiges, numerisches Berechnungsmodell für einen MPET-Wärmeübertrager im zyklischen Ver- und Enteisungsbetrieb unter Berücksichtigung der Transportvorgänge und Zustände des rückgehaltenenWassers wird entwickelt. Der Vergleich mit experimentellen Daten weist eine mittlere Abweichung der gewählten Vergleichsgrößen kleiner als 4% auf. Eine experimentelle Analyse des Verhaltens einer Pkw-Wärmepumpe im Ver- und Enteisungsbetrieb zeigt, dass die Vereisungsbetriebszeit sich mit abnehmender Ventilatordrehzahl und zunehmender Zyklenanzahl verringert. Bei Enteisungen während der Fahrt sind kurze Enteisungszeiten durch die Wahl hoher Verdichterdrehzahlen für einen geringen elektrischen Gesamtenergiebedarf der Klimatisierung zu bevorzugen. Die durch die Wärmepumpe erzeugte Heizleistung während einer Enteisung ist begrenzt und muss durch einen vergleichsweise hohen Energiebedarf des elektrischen Widerstandheizers kompensiert werden. Bei einer Enteisung ohne Heizanforderung sind niedrige Verdichterdrehzahlen zu favorisieren. Ein Vergleich zwischen den experimentellen Daten und den numerischen Daten eines Wärmepumpenmodells im zyklischen Ver- und Enteisungsbetrieb zeigt eine mittlere relative Abweichung der gewählten Vergleichsgrößen von weniger als 7 %. Mit einer zyklischen Ver- und Enteisungsbetriebsstrategie kann die mittlere aufgenommene elektrische Gesamtleistung des Wärmepumpensystems bei Experimenten mit einem prototypischen Fahrzeugaufbau um bis zu 39% gegenüber einer Vereisungsvermeidungsstrategie im Umgebungslufttemperaturbereich zwischen −7,8 °C und −1,4 °C verringert werden. Die mittlere Abweichung des Berechnungsmodells liegt im Vergleich zu den experimentellen Daten bei 4,4 %. Anhand des Berechnungsmodells kann die Wärmepumpe bei unterschiedlichen Randbedingungen des Wärmepumpensystems verglichen werden. An exemplarischen numerischen Szenarien bei Umgebungslufttemperaturen von −10 °C und 0 °C wird ein energetischer Vorteil einer zyklischen Ver- und Enteisungsstrategie ab einer relativen Luftfeuchtigkeit größer als 50% gegenüber einer Vereisungsvermeidungsstrategie nachgewiesen. Bei 100% relativer Luftfeuchtigkeit liegt der energetische Vorteil der betrachteten Szenarien bei 42 %. Die zu Beginn des Wärmepumpenbetriebs rückgehaltene Wassermasse, die Umgebungslüfterdrehzahl und die Fahrgeschwindigkeit haben einen geringen Einfluss auf die elektrische Gesamtleistung des Klimatisierungssystems, In battery electric vehicles, heat pumps are applied for energy-efficient heating. If the ambient air is used as a heat source, frost may form on the surface of the evaporator or external heat exchanger at low ambient air temperatures. If significant amounts of frost accumulate, the heat exchanger must be defrosted. The primary aim of this work is the analysis and evaluation of the energy use of cyclic frosting and defrosting operation for a vehicle heat pump. Different MPET heat exchanger designs are analyzed and evaluated with regard to their suitability for cyclic frosting and defrosting operation as direct evaporators. The desired characteristics for a heat exchanger in this operation are a delayed blocking of the air path due to the frost formation, and the retention of as small a mass of melt water as possible after defrosting. The heat exchanger properties fin pitch, fin overlap, and heat exchanger depth, as well as the presence or omission of louvers and the effect of different surface coatings, are analyzed experimentally with regard to these desired characteristics. It is found that heat exchangers with louvered fins, an uncoated surface, fin pitch ≥1.15 mm, and greater depth are advantageous for an efficient cyclic frosting and defrosting process. A novel, numerical computational model for a MPET heat exchanger in cyclic frosting and defrosting operation is developed that accounts the transport processes and states of the retained water. The comparison with experimental data shows an average deviation of the chosen comparative variables to be less than 4 %. An experimental analysis of the performance of a vehicle heat pump in frosting and defrosting operation indicates a frosting operating time decrease with decreasing fan speed and increasing number of cycles. In the case of defrosting while driving, short defrosting times are preferred and can be achieved by operating at high compressor speeds, which will result in a low total electrical energy demand of the air conditioning. The heating capacity generated by the heat pump during defrosting operation is limited and has to be compensated by the comparatively high energy demand of the resistance heater. When defrosting during periods when cabin heating is not needed, low compressor speeds are preferred. A comparison between the experimental data and results of the heat pump model in cyclic frosting and defrosting operation shows an average relative deviation of the selected comparative variables of less than 7 %. Experiments with a prototype vehicle demonstrate that a cyclic frosting and defrosting operation strategy can reduce the mean total electrical power consumed by the heat pump system by up to 39% compared to a frosting prevention strategy in an ambient air temperature range of −7.8 °C to −1.4 °C. The average deviation of the computational model compared to the experimental data is 4.4 %. The computational model can be used to compare the heat pump system at different boundary conditions. Using exemplary numerical scenarios at ambient temperatures of −10 °C and 0 °C, a cyclic frosting and defrosting strategy is demonstrated to have an energy advantage compared to a frosting prevention strategy for ambient conditions with an air relative humidity greater than 50 %. At 100% relative humidity, the energy advantage of the cyclic frosting and defrosting strategy under the investigated scenarios is 42 %. The retained water mass at the beginning of the heat pump operation, the fan speed of the external heat exchanger and the driving speed have minor impact on the overall electrical power of the air conditioning system.

Quiet aircraft passenger cabins contribute significantly to the well-being and health of billions of air travellers. During design, a reliable prediction of the sound pressure level is seen as crucial decision-making basis. The wave-resolving numerical simulation of sound pressure levels in the cabin is investigated within this thesis, which results in a comprehensive modelling of a typical aircraft fuselage, the efficient numerical solution and the assessment of the sound induced by a novel engine concept and the turbulent boundary layer. A major challenge is the complexity of aircraft models including structural, acoustic and poro-elastic domains. For each relevant fuselage part, experiments are conducted and different vibroacoustic models are compared in order to choose a suitable modelling approach, repectively. The airframe, the insulation, the interior panels and the cabin are studied separately and merged into a full aircraft fuselage model. One important finding is on the glass wool insulation layer between the airframe and the interior panel, for which the need for the Biot model is shown. The modelling of structure-borne sound transmission within the glass fibres is necessary to take structural resonances within the double wall gap in the low frequency range into account. Another finding concerns the cabin domain containing seats and passengers – a global homogenised damping approach yields suitable results compared to a more detailed consideration of local surface impedances. As the resulting finite element model incorporates millions of degrees of freedom, efficient solving approaches are studied with regard to potentially introduced errors. The combination of frequency-adaptive meshes and the admissible weak mechanical coupling assumption for the cabin above 410 Hz decreases the computational time required by 87% for a 4.3m fuselage section, while the reference is a constant mesh with a strong mechanical coupling between all domains. In addition, the application of the iterative solver GMRES in combination with a suitable preconditioner (Block low rank LU) is presented. The usage in blocks according to the physical domains requires significantly less computational effort compared to a direct solver. Besides, it is shown that the full length aircraft fuselage can be replaced by shorter fuselage sections without introducing significant errors above 410 Hz. The aircraft fuselage model in combination with efficient solving approaches is applied for two analyses. Firstly, the available acoustic excitations of two jet engines (bypassratio 17 and 5) are compared. The acoustic footprint of the novel engine yields significantly lower sound pressure levels in the cabin, which results in a positive assessment of the new technology. Secondly, the acoustic excitations beneath the turbulent boundary layer are modelled by a generic superposition of plane waves resulting in a deterministic snapshot of the random loading. It is demonstrated that the turbulent boundary layer generates cabin sound pressure levels lying between those of the two engine generations. Based on these results, a more distinct presence of the turbulent boundary layer acoustics within the cabin can be assumed for future aircraft generations. The assessment of complex excitations by applying the acoustic footprint directly shows a great advantage of wave-resolving models. The developed recommendations on aircraft fuselage modelling and the derived efficient solving approaches state the major scientific contribution of this thesis, which is transferable to different aircraft and even other mobility vehicles. The obtained results represent a decisive contribution towards the development of quieter passenger cabins in future aircraft., Leise Flugzeugpassagierkabinen tragen wesentlich zum Wohlbefinden und zur Gesundheit von Milliarden von Flugreisenden bei. In der Konstruktion wird eine zuverlässige Vorhersage des Schalldruckpegels als wichtige Entscheidungsgrundlage gesehen. Die wellenauflösende numerische Simulation von Schalldruckpegeln in der Kabine wird in dieser Dissertation untersucht. Das Ergebnis ist eine umfassende Modellierung eines typischen Flugzeugrumpfes, die effiziente numerische Lösung und die Bewertung des Schalls induziert durch ein neuartiges Triebwerkskonzept sowie die turbulente Grenzschicht. Eine große Herausforderung ist die Komplexität der Flugzeugmodelle, die strukturelle sowie akustische und poro-elastische Gebiete umfasst. Auf Basis von Experimenten und dem Vergleich verschiedener vibroakustischer Modelle wird für jeden relevanten Teil eines Flugzeugrumpfes jeweils ein geeigneter Ansatz ausgewählt. Die Flugzeugzelle, die Dämmung, die Innenverkleidung und die Kabine werden getrennt untersucht und zu einem Gesamtmodell des Flugzeugrumpfes zusammengeführt. Für Modellierung der Glaswolle-Dämmschicht zwischen der Flugzeugzelle und der Innenverkleidung wird die Notwendigkeit des Biot-Modells als wichtige Erkenntnis gezeigt. Die Modellierung der Körperschallübertragung innerhalb der Glasfasern ist notwendig, um Strukturresonanzen innerhalb des Doppelwandspalts im niedrigen Frequenzbereich zu berücksichtigen. Eine weitere Erkenntnis gilt der Kabine, in welcher sich die Sitze und Passagiere befinden – ein globaler homogenisierter Dämpfungsansatz führt zu geeigneten Ergebnissen im Vergleich zu einer detaillierteren Berücksichtigung lokaler Oberflächenimpedanzen. Da das resultierende Finite-Elemente-Modell Millionen von Freiheitsgraden umfasst, werden effiziente Lösungsansätze im Hinblick auf potenziell eingeführte Fehler untersucht. Die Kombination von frequenzadaptiven Netzen und der zulässigen Annahme einer schwachen mechanischen Kopplung der Kabine oberhalb von 410 Hz verringert den zeitlichen Rechenaufwand um 87% für einen Rumpfabschnitt über 4.3 m, während ein konstantes Netz mit starker mechanischer Kopplung zwischen allen Gebieten als Referenz herangezogen wird. Darüber hinaus wird die Anwendung des iterativen Lösers GMRES in Kombination mit einem geeigneten Vorkonditionierer (Block low rank LU) präsentiert. Die Verwendung in Blöcken entsprechend der physikalischen Gebiete bedarf deutlich weniger Berechnungsaufwand im Vergleich zu einem direkten Löser. Außerdem wird gezeigt, dass der gesamte Flugzeugrumpf durch kürzere Rumpfabschnitte ersetzt werden kann, ohne signifikante Fehler oberhalb von 410 Hz einzuführen. Das Flugzeugrumpfmodell wird in Kombination mit effizienten Lösungsansätzen für zwei Analysen angewendet. Zum einen werden die zur Verfügung stehenden akustischen Anregungen zweier Strahltriebwerke (Nebenstromverhältnis 17 und 5) miteinander verglichen. Der akustische Fußabdruck des neuartigen Triebwerks mit Nebenstromverhältnis 17 führt zu deutlich niedrigeren Schalldruckpegeln in der Kabine, wodurch sich eine positive Bewertung der neuen Technologie ergibt. Zweitens werden die akustischen Anregungen unterhalb der turbulenten Grenzschicht durch eine generische Überlagerung von ebenen Wellen modelliert, was zu einer deterministischen Momentaufnahme der Zufallsanregung führt. Es wird gezeigt, dass die turbulente Grenzschicht Kabinenschalldruckpegel erzeugt, die zwischen denen der beiden untersuchten Triebwerke liegen. Auf Grundlage dieser Ergebnisse kann für künftige Flugzeuggenerationen von einer stärkeren Präsenz der turbulenten Grenzschichtanregung in der Kabine ausgegangen werden. Die Bewertung komplexer Anregungen durch das direkte Aufbringen des akustischen Fußabdrucks zeigt einen großen Vorteil von wellenauflösenden Modellen. Die entwickelten Empfehlungen zur Modellierung von Flugzeugrümpfen und die daraus abgeleiteten effizienten Lösungsansätze stellen den wesentlichen wissenschaftlichen Beitrag dieser Arbeit dar, der auf andere Flugzeuge und sogar andere Mobilitätsträger übertragbar ist. Rastertunnelmikroskope (scanning tunneling microscope, STM) sind eine Gruppe von Instrumenten, welche mit einer Messspitze Oberflächen abtasten. Unter Ausnutzung des Tunnelstroms zwischen Spitze und Probe sind sie in der Lage Oberflächen mit atomarer Auflösung abzubilden. Allerdings ist die Positionierung der Messspitze stark von Nichtlinearitäten und Hysterese sowie Drift des Positioniersystems betroffen. Dadurch ist es mit bisher existierenden STMs nicht möglich, zuverlässige rückführbare dimensionelle Messungen an ebendiesen Oberflächen vorzunehmen. Ein STM, welches diese Möglichkeiten hätte, würde es beispielsweise ermöglichen, Aussagen über die Gitterkonstanten von Oberflächenrekonstruktionen kristalliner Materialien zu treffen. Mit diesen Messungen wäre es möglich, den Gitterabstand zur Kalibrierung anderer Instrumente zu verwenden, welche diese Oberflächen abbilden können. Ebenso könnten sogar in der Vergangenheit liegende Messungen mit einem rückgeführten Längenmaßstab versehen werden. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, ein STM zu implementieren, welches in allen drei Raumrichtungen dimensionell rückgeführt messen kann. Ebenso soll es in der Lage sein, unter Ultrahochvakuumbedingungen zu messen, um auch Messungen an Materialien zu ermöglichen, welche unter Umgebungsbedingungen oxidieren. Dazu wird ein existierendes STM mit sechs Interferometern ausgerüstet, welche Drehung und Verschiebung in allen sechs Freiheitsgraden messen können. Besonders der Einsatz unter Ultrahochvakuumbedingen und die damit verbundenen Anforderungen an den Aufbau und die verwendeten Materialien, sowie der durch die Vakuumkammer eingeschränkte Bauraum stellen dabei große Herausforderungen dar. Inhalt der Arbeit ist die Konstruktion eines Interferometeraufbaus und dessen Anpassung an das bestehende STM. Dabei werden besonders die Voraussetzungen für den Einsatz im Ultrahochvakuum und der begrenzte Bauraum berücksichtigt. Ebenso wird auf die Auslegung und Fertigung elektronischer und mechanischer Komponenten unter den gleichen Gesichtspunkten eingegangen. Weiterhin werden kommerzielle Komponenten ausgewählt und auf ihre Tauglichkeit hin untersucht. Auch der Zusammenbau und die Justage des Aufbaus werden beschrieben und die Funktionsfähigkeit des Instrumentes unter Umgebungsbedingungen wird demonstriert. Auf weitere Schritte, welche notwendig sind um das UHV-STM zur vollen Einsatzbereitschaft zu bringen wird ebenfalls eingegangen., Scanning Tunneling Microscopes (STM) are a class of instruments, which scan surfaces using a small metal tip. Utilizing the tunnel current between tip and sample, they are capable to provide images of surfaces with atomic resolution. However, the positioning of the tip relative to the sample is highly affected by hysteresis, nonlinearities and drift of the positioning system. Therefore it is not possible for current STMs to perform traceable dimensional measurements on the aforementioned surfaces. A STM with these capabilities could enable one to measure the lattice constant of surface reconstructions of crystalline materials. With these measurements it would in turn be possible to calibrate measurements of other instruments which can resolve these surfaces. Even calibrations of past measurements could thus be an option. The goal of this work is to implement an instrument which can provide for traceable dimensional measurements in all three lateral dimensions. Also it must be capable of operating under ultra-high vacuum conditions in order to enable the examination of materials which would oxidize under ambient conditions. To achieve this goal, an existing STM is being outfitted with six interferometers, which can measure displacement and tilt of sample and tip in all six degrees of freedom. Especially the operation under vacuum conditions is challenging, as the used materials and the setup must all be suited for these conditions. Also the limited space inside the vacuum chamber, which needs to accommodate all six interferometers must be taken into account. The scope of this work is the construction of a interferometer setup and its adaption to the existing STM. Especially the requirements for the operation under UHV conditions as well as the space constraints are taken into account. Also the development and manufacture of electronics and mechanical components under the same aspects is described. Furthermore, the selection of commercial components and their testing for suitability is discussed. The assembly and adjustment of the measurement setup is also handled and its functionality under ambient conditions is demonstrated. Further steps, which will be necessary in order to bring the instrument into full working order are also described.

Magnetische Phasenübergänge spielen sowohl in der Grundlagenforschung als auch bei praktischen Anwendungen eine große Rolle. In der hier vorliegenden Arbeit werden beide Aspekte untersucht. Nach den theoretischen und experimentellen Grundlagen wird mit der Erforschung des magnetischen und elektronischen Phasendiagramms der antiferromagnetischen Substanz U2Rh3Si5 begonnen. Dieses System zeichnet sich durch einen magnetisch/strukturellen Übergang erster Ordnung aus. Durch Messungen der Magnetisierung und Magnetostriktion in gepulsten Magnetfeldern konnten ein komplexes Hochfeldverhalten festgestellt werden. Durch ergänzende temperaturabhängige Messungen wurde des komplexe magnetische Phasendiagramm aufgestellt. Darüber hinaus zeigt der spezifische Widerstand ein überraschendes Feature nahe des magnetischen Übergangs. In dieser Arbeit haben wir mit UNi4B ein weiteres metallisches Uransystem untersucht, welches sich durch eine ungewöhnliche Form der partiellen antiferromagnetischen Ordnung auszeichnet. Diese Interpretation beruht jedoch auf einer inkorrekten Bestimmung der kristallographischen Struktur. Da es diesbezüglich noch offene Fragen gab, haben wir umfassende Neutronendiffraktionsexperimente durchgeführt und waren in der Lage, die Details der Kristallstruktur aufzulösen. In einem nächsten Experiment konnten wir dann die komplexe magnetische Struktur bestimmen. Mit Nb1-yFe2+y wurde auch ein Material untersucht, bei dem durch Variation von y ein quantenkritischer Punkt im Phasendiagramm erreicht werden kann. In dieser Arbeit haben wir umfassende Myonenspinspektroskopieexperimente an unterschiedlichen Proben durchgeführt. Ein besonderer Fokus lag jedoch auf den Messungen an einer quantenkritischen Probe, die bis in den mK-Bereich keine langreichweitige Ordnung zeigt. In unseren Experimenten konnten wir magnetische Fluktuationen nachweisen, welche zum Teil durch natürliche Stöchiometrievariation ausgelöst werden. Abschließend verlassen wir die reine Grundlagenforschung und wenden uns einem neuartigen Kühlkonzept zu, welches z.B. für die Raumfahrt von Interesse sein könnte. Dabei soll der magnetokalorische Effekt, also die adiabatische Temperaturänderung einer Probe in einem externen Magnetfeld, ausgenutzt werden. Nach Abschluss der Vorüberlegungen konnte ein Prototyp gebaut und erste Experimente durchgeführt werden. Diese Arbeit beinhaltet zum Schluss noch eine mögliche Weiterentwicklung unseres Prototyps, um die Effizienz und Kühlleistung zu erhöhen., Magnetic phase transitions play a major role in fundamental research and practical applications. In this work both aspects are investigated. After the theoretical and experimental background, the study of the magnetic and electronic phase diagram of the antiferromagnetic compound U2Rh3Si5 is presented. This material is characterised by a first-order magnetic/structural transition. Our measurements of magnetisation and magnetostriction in pulsed magnetic fields revealed a complex high-field behaviour and strong magnetic anisotropy between the crystallographic axes. Moreover, the resistivity shows a surprising feature near the magnetic transition and we conclude that it could be a signature of a novel electronic phase. In this work, we have investigated another metallic uranium system, UNi4B. It was published that UNi4B is characterised by an unusual form of partial antiferromagnetic order. However, this interpretation is dependent on an incorrect determination of the crystallographic structure. We carried out extensive neutron diffraction experiments and were able to resolve the details of the crystal structure. In a subsequent experiment, we were then able to determine the complex magnetic structure. With Nb1-yFe2+y, a material has been studied where a quantum critical point in the phase diagram can be reached by varying y. In this work, we performed extensive muon spin spectroscopy experiments on different samples. A main emphasis was put on the measurements on a quantum-critical sample, which does not show any long-range order down to the mK range. In our experiments, we were able to detect magnetic fluctuations, which may in part be triggered by natural variations of the stoichiometry. In the end, we leave fundamental research and turn to a new type of cooling concept that could be of interest, for example, for space craft. For this purpose, the magnetocaloric effect, i.e., the adiabatic temperature change of a sample in an external magnetic field, is to be exploited in this work. The focus lies on the design of the magnetocaloric material and the magnet setup for a prototype. After the preliminary considerations were completed, all components were put together and the first experiments were carried out for the proof of concept. Finally, this work includes a possible improvement of our prototype to increase efficiency and cooling performance.

Skyrmionische Eigenschaften von epitaktischen MnSi- und MnGe-Filmen – Untersuchungen mit Magnetotransport- und Hall-Effekt-Messungen Im Fokus dieser Arbeit steht die Herstellung und anschließende Charakterisierung von epitaktisch gewachsenen MnSi- und MnGe-Filmen und -Nanostrukturen. Während die magnetischen Phasen der Volumenmaterialien bereits in der Literatur etabliert sind, finden sich bei unterschiedlichen Filmproben desselben Materials zum Teil große Diskrepanzen insbesondere im Hinblick auf das Auftreten der Skyrmionenphase. Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, einen zum Volumen analogen definierten Zustand der epitaktischen Filme zu erzeugen. Dazu werden in dieser Arbeit ausführliche Optimierungsprozesse hinsichtlich der Herstellungsparameter der Filme mit einem Fokus auf die Oberflächenbeschaffenheit und der Verspannung in der Einheitszelle vorgestellt. Zusätzlich wird ein lithografischer Prozess an MnSi- und MnGe-Filmen etabliert, mit dessen Hilfe Nanostrukturen mit Stegbreiten in der Größenordnung von 50 nm hergestellt werden können. Anschließend an die Herstellung werden die Magnetotransportmessungen der Filme und Nanostrukturen durchgeführt. Dabei wird zunächst das temperaturabhängige Magnetowiderstandsverhalten bestimmt. Anhand dessen kann unter anderem der Einfluss des Substrats auf den temperaturabhängigen Widerstand erklärt werden. Weiterhin wird erstmals ein auf das Volumenmaterial rückführbarer, termperaturabhängiger Hallwiderstand bestimmt. Ein besonderer Fokus liegt dabei auf der Untersuchung der lokalen Eigenschaften des Films durch entsprechende Nanostrukturierung. Untersuchungen ohne externen Druck ergeben dabei, dass kein auf Skyrmionen rückführbarer topologischer Hall-Effekt in epitaktisch gewachsenen MnSi- und MnGe-Filmen vorliegt. Die Unterdrückung der Ausbildung von magnetischen Skyrmionen wird dabei auf eine Verzerrung der Einheitszelle zurückgeführt. Um dies zu untersuchen, werden druckabhängige Magnetotransportmessungen an MnSi-Filmen mit hydrostatischem Druck von bis zu 2,58 GPa durchgeführt. Berechnungen ergeben, dass sich eine Kompensation der Verzerrung bei circa 2 GPa einstellt. Analog zu den Überlegungen zeigte sich bei Messungen oberhalb von 2 GPa eine entsprechende zusätzliche Signatur in dem Magnetowiderstand und dem Hall-Effekts. Diese Signatur lässt sich als Ausbildung einer zusätzlichen magnetischen Phase deuten, welche in Analogie zum Volumenmaterial als Identifikationsmerkmal von magnetischen Skyrmionen in MnSi-Filmen unter Druck dient., The main focus of this thesis lies on the manufacturing and subsequent characterization of epitaxially grown MnSi and MnGe thin films and nanostructures. These materials are members of the so-called B20-group of materials and show in their bulk state well established properties of the magnetic phases. In contrast, for epitaxial thin films of the same materials various inconsistencies regarding the skyrmionic behaviour is observed. The goal of this work is to obtain structurally well-defined epitaxial thin films in analogy to bulk material. For that reason several an extensive optimization process regarding the growth parameters is performed mainly focused on the surface quality of the thin films as well as on the strain of the unit cell. In addition, a lithographic process has been established, which nanostructures with a smallest structure size of 50 nm can be reliably obtained with. Following the manufacturing process the films and nanostructures are characterized regarding their magneto-transport properties. At first the temperature dependent magneto-resistance is determined. Analysing the resistivity the influence of the substrate on the resistivity of the thin films is obtained. In addition to the resistivity a temperature dependent Hall-measurement is performed. For the first time a reliable result of the Hall effect is yield which is directly scalable with the data of the bulk material. A large effort is made on the investigation of the local properties of the film material in terms of nanostructuring. Measurements without external pressure show that a topological Hall effect traceable to skyrmions is absent in epitaxially grown MnSi and MnGe thin films. The reason of the suppression of the skyrmions is attributed to the strain of the unit cell. Therefore, a pressure dependent characterization of the magnetic transport properties is performed on MnSi thin films with an applied pressure of up to 2.58 GPa. Intitial calculations show that at roughly 2 GPa the internal strain of the MnSi unit cell is compensated. As a result, an additional signature in the magneto-resistance and the Hall effect is obtained at pressures above 2 GPa. This signature is interpreted in terms of additional magnetic ordering, which is analogous to bulk material an identification feature of magnetic skyrmions in MnSi thin films under applied pressure.

The parameterization of the magnetospheric field contribution, generated by currents flowing in the magnetosphere is of major importance for the analysis of Mercury’s internal magnetic field. Using a combination of the Gauss and the Mie representation (toroidal–poloidal decomposition) for the parameterization of the magnetic field enables the analysis of magnetic field data measured in current carrying regions in the vicinity of Mercury. In view of the BepiColombo mission, the magnetic field resulting from the plasma interaction of Mercury with the solar wind is simulated with a hybrid simulation code and the internal Gauss coefficients for the dipole, quadrupole and octupole field are reconstructed from the data, evaluated along the prospective trajectories of the Mercury Planetary Orbiter (MPO) using Capon’s method. Especially, it turns out that a high-precision determination of Mercury’s octupole field is expectable from the future analysis of the magnetic field data measured by the magnetometer on board MPO. Thermal noise of optical components is one of the sensitivity limiting effects in gravitational wave detectors, laser stabilization cavities and many other experiments in basic research. However, current methods for the computation of thermal noise are limited for an application in either infinitely large or symmetrically illuminated masses. I present a general method of computing thermal noise of arbitrary finite-sized masses in optical interferometers. The presented approach generalizes state-of-the-art methods for an application in arbitrary shaped optical elements illuminated by arbitrary spatial light distributions. Furthermore, I show the application of the presented approach to compute thermal noise of maladjusted mirrors in Fabry-Perot interferometers. It is shown that the noise can be reduced by off-axis illumination in the case of thin mirrors.

In this research, we designed and fabricated an optofluidic chip for the detection and differentiation of single particles via the combination of backscattered (BSC) and forward-scattered (FSC) or side-scattered (SSC) light intensity. The high sensitivity of BSC light to the refractive index of the particles enabled an effective approach for the differentiation of individual particles based on the type of material. By recording BSC as well as FSC and SSC light intensities from single particles, transiting through the illumination zone in a microfluidic channel, the size and type of material could be detected simultaneously. The analysis of model samples of polystyrene (PS), as a primary microplastic particle, and silica microspheres showed substantially higher BSC signal values of PS because of a larger refractive index compared to the silica. The scatter plots correlating contributions of BSC (FSC-BSC and SSC-BSC) allowed a clear differentiation of PS and silica particles. To demonstrate the great potential of this methodology, two "real-life" samples containing different types of particles were tested as application examples. Commercial toothpaste and peeling gel products, as primary sources of microplastics into effluents, were analyzed via the optofluidic chip and compared to results from scanning electron microscopy. The scattering analysis of the complex samples enabled the detection and simultaneous differentiation of particles such as microplastics according to their differences in the refractive index via distinctive areas of high and low BSC signal values. Hence, the contribution of BSC light measurements in multiangle scattering of single particles realized in an optofluidic chip opens the way for the discrimination of single particles in a liquid medium in manifold fields of application ranging from environmental monitoring to cosmetics.

Poloidal–toroidal magnetic field decomposition is a useful application of the Mie representation and the decomposition method enables us to determine the current density observationally and unambiguously in the local region of magnetic field measurement. The application and the limits of the decomposition method are tested against the Mercury magnetic field simulation in view of BepiColombo’s arrival at Mercury in 2025. The simulated magnetic field data are evaluated along the planned Mercury Planetary Orbiter (MPO) trajectories and the current system that is crossed by the spacecraft is extracted from the magnetic field measurements. Afterwards, the resulting currents are classified in terms of the established current system in the vicinity of Mercury. Graphical Abstract

Der Einsatz von Ejektoren in industriellen CO2-Kälteanlagen mit einem hohen Teillastanteil ist in der Literatur noch nicht umfassend untersucht. Daraus leitet sich das übergeordnete Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ab. Dies ist die Analyse der erreichbaren Energieeffizienzsteigerung von industriellen CO2-Kälteanlagen mit einem hohen Teillastanteil durch den Einsatz von Ejektoren. Die in dieser Arbeit verfolgte Lösungsidee ist der Einsatz mehrerer Ejektoren, zwischen denen im Betrieb umgeschaltet werden kann. Es wird am Beispiel einer ausgeführten industriellen CO2-Kälteanlage zur Luftkühlung gezeigt, wie die Auswahl von optimalen Ejektorgrößen erfolgen kann. Die Kälteanlage wird zunächst modelliert und in einem ersten Schritt optimiert. Auf Basis eines vorhandenen Ejektormodells wird ein parameterlineares Kennlinienmodell für Ejektoren erstellt, welches eine geringere Anzahl an Parametern mit geringeren Korrelationen besitzt als das ursprüngliche Ejektormodell. Mit Hilfe dieses Modells werden simulativ optimale Ejektoren für die analysierte Kälteanlage ausgewählt. Mit vier Ejektoren unterschiedlicher Größe wird die beste Reduktion des Energieverbrauchs über ein Jahr von 6,9% im Vergleich zur optimierten Kälteanlage ohne Ejektoren erreicht. Bei drei Ejektoren liegt diese bei 6,1 %. Zwei Ejektoren, welche zu einem Kombibetrieb zusammengeschaltet werden, stellen für die untersuchte Kälteanlage die minimale Anzahl an Ejektoren dar, wobei eine Verbesserung des Energieverbrauchs von 6% erreicht wird. Um die Sensitivität des JEV der Kälteanlage bezüglich der Ejektoreffizienz darzustellen, wird die Ejektoreffizienz der zuvor berechneten Zusammenstellungen von Ejektoren, welche bei maximal 24%lag, um 25%erhöht. Dadurch wird der Jahresenergieverbrauch noch einmal um bis zu 1,4 Prozentpunkte verringert. Abschließend wird die untersuchte Kälteanlage simulativ mit einem Flash-Gas-Bypass ausgestattet und mit der Kälteanlage verglichen, welche vier Ejektoren mit der optimalen Größe besitzt. Die Kälteanlagen mit Ejektoren liefert in den untersuchten Betriebspunkten eine um bis zu 17,5% höhere Leistungszahl., The use of ejectors in industrial CO2 chillers operating a high percentage of time in part load is not yet fully investigated in the literature. That leads to the main goal of this work, the analysis of possible gains of energy efficiency by the use of ejectors for chillers with high part load share. To meet the challenge of a high share of part load operation this work suggests switching between several ejectors with different sizes. This work shows, using the example of a real industrial chiller with CO2 as refrigerant which is used to cool air, how to optimally choose ejectors. To achieve high efficiencyciency improvements with ejectors, their sizes need to be chosen optimally according to the occurring part loads of the chiller. A model of the chiller for system simulations is created, validated with measurement data and optimized in respect of superheating and high pressure. Built on an existing ejector model a new ejector model which is linear in parameters is developed. This new ejector model has a lower number of parameters and the correlations of these parameters is lower than in the base model. The optimal choice of ejector driving nozzle diameter is done for chillers with one and up to four ejectors. In each configuration only one ejector is used at a time. The results show that four ejectors lead to the highest reduction on energy consumption of 6,9% compared to the optimized system. With three ejectors a reduction of energy consumption of 6,1% can be reached. Switching between two ejectors lead to reduction of energy consumption of 3,4% which is lower compared to using the valve mode all year. Using two ejectors also in combination so that three effective driving nozzle areas can be used, leads to a reduction of energy consumption of 6 %. The sensitivity of the energy consumption on ejector efficiency is analysed by manually improving the efficiencies simulated before by 25 %. Finally a comparison of a chiller with four ejectors with a chiller with flash-gas-bypass is conducted. The chiller with four ejectors has a better performance in all analysed boundary conditions compared to the chiller with flash-gas-bypass.

Extreme hydrodynamic events such as hurricanes or tsunamis threaten coastal regions in particular. Such hazards must be assessed and appropriately incorporated into building codes to mitigate casualties and damages to coastal structures. Guidelines are often developed through experimental investigations that assume buildings remain rigid during hydrodynamic loading. To challenge this ‘rigid building paradigm’, test specimens were designed to replicate the deformation characteristics of an idealized light-frame timber structure using Froude-Cauchy similarity. Subsequently, a large-scale experimental study was conducted at the Large Wave Flume of the Coastal Research Center in Hannover. Hydrodynamic loads and load gradients were investigated to describe both the influence of an elasto-plastically modeled test specimen compared to a rigid reference model and the effect of load history on the structural loads. Finally, the collapse sequences of elasto-plastic specimens were extracted from high-speed photographs and classified into three failure mechanisms. A computational model for high current density arc plasmas is developed. Under the assumption of thermodynamic equilibrium the arc plasma is described as a compressible laminar fluid based on the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations and the transport and thermodynamic properties of air. The arc plasma is studied in time and space on macroscopic values such as the temperature and the pressure. The simulation results are discussed and future research work is identified addressing the scientific domain of high current density arc plasmas.

Gain, noise figure (NF), and output power are considered the common performance metrics of an optical fiber amplifier. With an increasing interest of space industry in developing technologies for satellite-ground and intersatellite communication in the optical band, the EDFA (erbium doped fiber amplifier) is needed as power amplifier in space to compensate attenuation and insertion losses between the building blocks of the architecture. There is very little research on modeling the degradation mechanisms of typical commercial fibers, specifically on the NF and output power metrics, that requires knownledge of the insertion losses at the entrance of the fiber for both the pump and the signal wavelengths λp and λs. In this brief report we propose that the noise figure and output power trends can be extrapolated from a semi-empirical model for the insertion losses proved at high and low dose rates at two different temperatures. The results show reasonable trends that a common off-the shelf EDFA can present in co-propagating configuration on the NF and output power under several doses at low and high rates. The radiation losses using non-hardened fiber show sustainable attenuation levels in dB that can possibly allow employing this off-the shelf fibers in CubeSats or small satellites without the need of special radiation insulation. It is further supported with theoretical data that the temperature factor can affect more the EDFA degradation in space than the radiation itself, imposing limits on the temperature control of commercial satellites using this photonics. Ice formation on aerodynamic surfaces is a safety-related issue in aviation. Thermal, mechanical, or hybrid systems are used to prevent or eliminate ice formation. To increase energy efficiency, new methods are being researched and tested, using new materials. This article aims to investigate in detail the geometrical parameters of a novel thermomechanical deicing concept based on the shape memory effect. The thermomechanical behavior of a shape memory alloy wire embedded in an elastomer can be described, using the transformation expansion coefficient. The approach includes the nonlinear phase transformation and the linear expansion of the alloy. Simulation results using the above approach are compared with experimental results. In addition, a parameter study of the geometric quantities is presented, where the individual effects of these quantities are investigated assuming that there is a block-like ice layer on the surface. The results for the behavior of the SMA show promising results in terms of describing the thermomechanical behavior of the wire. However, deviations are still observed in the thermal behavior of the embedding matrix.

Majorana bound states (MBSs) offer a promising route to fault-tolerant quantum computation, because of their non-Abelian anyonic exchange statistics. They emerge as protected boundary modes of one dimensional topological superconductors (TSCs). Due to the finite size of these TSCs the wave functions of the two MBSs can spread across the whole TSC which leads to the possibility to access both MBSs at the same end of the TSC. First, we consider a spinless metallic lead-TSC-quantum dot setup in which the Majorana system is described with a Kitaev chain. Here, we show that a pair of Fano resonances arises as a function of dot level energy in the differential conductance. In an analytical low-energy description, we show that in the case of isolated MBS, i.e. only one MBS is contacted by the lead and the second MBS is only contacted by the quantum dot, these Fano resonances are invariant under a sign change of the dot level energy. This symmetry, however, is broken as soon as we allow the quantum dot to not only couple to one but also to the second MBS. Next, we consider a spinful model, in which the MBS system is given by a semiconducting nanowire with Rashba spin orbit interaction, proximity induced s-wave superconductivity and an applied Zeeman field. In this scenario, we find that even without a coupling to the dot the transport properties can be used to determine the different couplings to both MBSs. Furthermore, we find that the spin canting angles of the MBSs have a profound influence on the low-energy transport properties. We underline our analytical findings with a numerical treatment of the proposed transport setup where we apply the mean field approximation for the Coulomb energy selfconsistently. For the Josephson junction we use the quasidegenerate perturbation theory to obtain an effective low-energy Hamiltonian. Our calculations show that the MBSs only contribute to the equilibrium Josephson current if both of them can be adressed by electron tunneling from the lead. Moreover, we find that the critical current is oscillating as a function of applied Zeeman field and exhibits a sign change at parity crossings. A numerical analysis reveals the contributions of higher energy states due to a residual s-wave pairing in the topologically non-trivial regime which shadow the signatures related to the MBSs. We therefore suggest an experimental scheme that uses quasiparticle poisoning to unveil the Majorana contributions., Majorana bound states (MBSs) bieten aufgrund ihrer nicht-Abelschen anyonischen Austauschstatistik einen vielversprechenden Ansatz für einen fehlertoleranten Quantencomputer. Sie entstehen als geschützte Grenzzustände von eindimensionalen topologischen Supraleitern (TSCs). Aufgrund der endlichen Größe dieser TSCs kann sich die Wellenfunktion der beiden MBSs über den gesamten TSC ausbreiten, was zu der Möglichkeit führt, auf beide MBSs am gleichen Ende des TSC zuzugreifen. Zuerst betrachten wir eine spinlose metallischen Zuleitung-TSC-Quantenpunktanordnung, bei dem das Majorana-System mit einer Kitaev-Kette beschrieben wird. Hier zeigen wir, dass ein Paar Fano-Resonanzen als Funktion der Quantenpunktenergie in der differentiellen Leitfähigkeit entsteht. In einer analytischen Niederenergiebeschreibung zeigen wir, dass bei isolierten MBSs, d.h. nur ein MBS wird von der Leitung und der zweite MBS wird nur von dem Quantenpunkt kontaktiert, diese Fano-Resonanzen invariant unter einer Vorzeichenänderung der Quantenpunktenergie sind. Diese Symmetrie wird jedoch gebrochen, sobald wir zulassen, dass der Quantenpunkt nicht nur an ein, sondern auch an das zweite MBS gekoppelt wird. Als nächstes betrachten wir ein Modell mit Spin, bei dem das MBS-System durch einen halbleitenden Nanodraht mit Rashba-Spinorbitwechselwirkung, induzierter s-Wellen Supraleitung und einem angelegten Zeeman-Feld gegeben ist. In diesem Szenario stellen wir fest, dass auch ohne Kopplung an den Quantenpunkt die Transporteigenschaften genutzt werden können, um die unterschiedlichen Kopplungen zu beiden MBSs zu bestimmen. Wir unterstützen unsere analytischen Ergebnisse mit einer selbstkonsistenten numerischen Behandlung des vorgeschlagenen Transportsetups. Für den Josephsonkontakt verwenden wir die quasientartete Störungstheorie, um einen effektiven niederenergetischen Hamiltonoperator zu erhalten. Unsere Berechnungen zeigen, dass die MBSs nur dann zum Gleichgewichts-Josephsonstrom beitragen, wenn beide durch Elektronentunneln von der Zuleitung adressiert werden können. Eine numerische Analyse zeigt zusätzliche Beiträge höherer Energiezustände aufgrund einer verbleibenden s-Wellenpaarung im topologisch nicht-trivialen Regime, die die Signaturen im Zusammenhang mit den MBSs überschatten. Wir schlagen daher ein experimentelles Schema vor, das die Majorana-Beiträge durch Quasiteilchen-Vergiftung enthüllt.

A generally applicable robust data-driven network modeling strategy offers rapid means to predict and control complex systems., We propose a universal method for data-driven modeling of complex nonlinear dynamics from time-resolved snapshot data without prior knowledge. Complex nonlinear dynamics govern many fields of science and engineering. Data-driven dynamic modeling often assumes a low-dimensional subspace or manifold for the state. We liberate ourselves from this assumption by proposing cluster-based network modeling (CNM) bridging machine learning, network science, and statistical physics. CNM describes short- and long-term behavior and is fully automatable, as it does not rely on application-specific knowledge. CNM is demonstrated for the Lorenz attractor, ECG heartbeat signals, Kolmogorov flow, and a high-dimensional actuated turbulent boundary layer. Even the notoriously difficult modeling benchmark of rare events in the Kolmogorov flow is solved. This automatable universal data-driven representation of complex nonlinear dynamics complements and expands network connectivity science and promises new fast-track avenues to understand, estimate, predict, and control complex systems in all scientific fields.

The error propagation of Capon’s minimum variance estimator resulting from measurement errors and position errors is derived within a linear approximation. It turns out, that Capon’s estimator provides the same error propagation as the conventionally used least square fit method. The shape matrix which describes the location depence of the measurement positions is the key parameter for the error propagation, since the condition number of the shape matrix determines how the errors are amplified. Furthermore, the error resulting from a finite number of data samples is derived by regarding Capon’s estimator as a special case of the maximum likelihood estimator.

In this thesis we propose and discuss new ways to probe and characterize fractional Josephson junctions and Majorana excitations forming inside of such junctions. First we propose a Josephson junction based on silicene. By using the buckled structure of silicene, topological edge states can be defined using electric fields. When mediating the Josephson effect with such edge states, the resulting Josephson junction can be tuned electrically between a fractional junction hosting two Majorana excitations and a nonfractional junction hosting no Majorana excitations. An experimental setup to use this effect as an indicator for the topology of the junction is proposed and discussed. Such signatures will typically only be visible in measurements if the quasiparticle poisoning is slow in these junctions. We analyze the effects that such poisoning events have on the dynamics of fractional Josephson junctions. Experimental schemes to measure the poisoning rate through voltage measurements are proposed for different parameter regimes. Many of the proposed setups use the fact that the Josephson junction is in the long junction regime. We propose a setup in which the topological edge states mediating the fractional Josephson effect are coupled to additional states. As an example we consider the cases where the edge states either couple to an additional nondispersive channel or to a single level quantum dot. Due to this coupling, the electrons and holes forming the Andreev bound states pick up an additional phase during one round trip, which alters their energy phase relation. The resulting setups mimic junctions with an effective length that is longer than the physical length of the junction. We characterize these junctions including coupling to additional states by an effective junction length and consider multiple limiting cases. By employing such coupling short junctions can potentially be tuned to the long junction regime, which would make many of the proposed measurements possible even in junctions that are physically in the short junction regime. This thesis also contains a brief overview of the current experimental situation surrounding this field of study as well as a short review of the Kane-Mele model as an example model featuring a quantum spin Hall insulating phase including spin-helical topological edge states., In dieser Dissertation schlagen wir neue Methoden zur Untersuchung und Charakterisierung sowohl von fraktionalen Josephson Kontakten als auch von Majorana Anregungen, welche sich in solchen Kontakten bilden, vor und diskutieren diese. Als erstes schlagen wir einen Josephson Kontakt in Silicen vor. Aufgrund der wellenförmigen Struktur von Silicen können wir topologische Randkanäle mit Hilfe von elektrische Feldern definieren. Wenn der Josephson Effekt über diese topologischen Randkanäle vermittelt wird, kann der resultierende Josephson Kontakt elektrisch zwischen einem fraktionalen Josephson Kontakt, in welchem sich zwei Majorana Anregungen bilden, und einem nicht fraktionalen Josephson Kontakt, in welchem sich keine Majorana Anregungen bilden, geschaltet werden. Ein experimenteller Aufbau, in welchem dieser Effekt als Indikator für die Topologie des Kontaktes genutzt wird, wird vorgeschlagen und diskutiert. Solche Signaturen sind in Messungen typischerweise nur sichtbar, falls die Quasiteilchenvergiftung langsam ist. Wir untersuchen den Effekt, der eine solche Vergiftung auf die Dynamik von fraktionalen Josephson Kontakten hat. Experimentelle Konstruktionen zum Messen der Quasiteilchenvergiftungsrate über Spannungsmessungen werden für verschiedene Parameterbereiche vorgeschlagen. Viele dieser vorgeschlagenen Konstruktionen basieren darauf, dass sich die Josephson Kontakte in dem langen Kontakt Regime befinden. Wir schlagen einen Aufbau vor, in dem die topologischen Randkanäle, welche den fraktionalen Josephson Effekt vermitteln, an weitere Zustände gekoppelt werden. Die resultierenden Kontakte ähneln solchen, welche länger sind als die ihnen unterliegenden Kontakte physisch sind. Wir charakterisieren diese Kontakte mit Kopplungen an weitere Zustände über eine effektive Länge und betrachten verschiedene Grenzfälle. Mit Hilfe solcher Kopplungen können kurze Kontakte potentiell in den langen Kontakt Regime gebracht werden, was viele der vorgeschlagenen Messungen selbst in Kontakten, welche sich physisch im kurzen Kontakt Regime befinden, möglich machen würde. Diese Dissertation enthält ebenfalls sowohl einen kurzen Überblick über die experimentelle Lage des umliegenden Forschungsfeldes als auch eine kleine Übersicht des Kane-Mele Modells als ein Beispiel für ein Modell, welches eine Quanten-Spin-Hall isolierende Phase inklusive Spin helikalen topologischen Randkanälen besitzt.

Ausgelöst durch die Forderung, den Einsatz fossiler Kraftstoffe im Fahrzeug zu reduzieren, gibt es zahlreiche Bestrebungen, die Effizienz der Verbrennungskraftmaschine zu steigern. Neben den klassischen Ansätzen wie Downsizing und Hybridisierung des Verbrennungsmotors befassen sich weitere Ansätze mit der Nutzung von ungenutzten Energiepotenzialen. Als eine mögliche Quelle bietet sich die thermische Energie des Abgases an, die in einem Pkw-Motor je nach Betriebspunkt und Brennverfahren zwischen ca. 15 – 50 % der chemischen Energie des zugeführten Kraftstoffs ausmachen kann. In dieser Arbeit wird ein System untersucht, das mit Hilfe eines dem Verbrennungsmotor nachgeschalteten Wärmekraftprozesses kontinuierlich Abgaswärme in nutzbare Energie wandelt, um durch die Nutzung der Abwärme Kraftstoff einzusparen. Als Wärmekraftprozess wird ein spezieller Dampfkreisprozess betrachtet, der durch seine Prozessführung charakterisiert und je nach Arbeitsfluid entweder Rankine Kreisprozess (RC) oder Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) genannt wird. Das Hauptaugenmerk dieser Arbeit liegt auf der Expansionsmaschine (EM), in der die Wandlung der thermischen Energie in nutzbare mechanische Energie erfolgt. Da die Anzahl an möglichen Typen für eine EM sehr groß ist, wird die Abgrenzung getroffen, dass allein solche EM betrachtet werden, die nach dem Prinzip einer Tauchkolben- oder Kreuzkopf-EM arbeiten. Ziel der Arbeit ist es, zwei methodische Ansätze mit unterschiedlicher Zielsetzung zu entwickeln: Der erste Ansatz dient dazu eine Hubkolben-EM für eine gegebene Fahrzeuganwendung zielgenau auszulegen, wohingegen der zweite Ansatz dazu genutzt wird, die Verlustquellen einer vorhandenen EM zu analysieren. Die Methodik zur Auslegung einer Hubkolben-EM basiert auf Parametervariationen eines RC mit einfachen Zustandsänderungen, um zunächst die am besten geeigneten Betriebsparameter (oberer Prozessdruck und obere Prozesstemperatur) zu ermitteln. Anschließend werden die charakteristischen Dimensionierungsparameter einer Hubkolben-EM bestimmt (Hubvolumen und effektive Leistung). Um eine Aussage über die effektive Leistung treffen zu können, ist es notwendig, die Reibung in Abhängigkeit von der Baugröße zu berücksichtigen. Daher werden in dieser Arbeit unterschiedliche Ansätze zur Beschreibung der Reibung in Abhängigkeit von Betriebsparametern und Schmierungskonzept der Hubkolben-EM ermittelt. Zudem beschäftigt sich ein Teil der Arbeit mit der Gestaltung des Schmierungskonzepts, da es zu Einschränkungen in der Haltbarkeit kommen kann, wenn sich Arbeitsfluid und Schmieröl miteinander vermischen. In dieser Arbeit werden unterschiedliche Lösungen für diese technische Problemstellung vorgestellt und hinsichtlich ihrer Eignung für den Einsatz in einem RC für eine mobile Anwendung diskutiert. Als Besonderheit ist zu nennen, dass das Reibverhalten einer trockenlauffähigen Kolbengruppe untersucht wird. Zur Analyse des Betriebsverhaltens einer vorhandenen Hubkolben-EM wird eine zweite Methodik, eine thermodynamische Verlustteilung, vorgestellt. Die in dieser Arbeit entwickelte Verlustteilung erlaubt es, die Verluste schrittweise zu quantifizieren, indem der reale Expansionsprozess sukzessive in einen idealen Expansionsprozess überführt wird. Hierzu ist es notwendig, das Wärmeübertragungsverhalten der Arbeitskammer zu quantifizieren. Daher beschäftigt sich ein Teil der Arbeit mit der Ermittlung einer Wärmeübergangskorrelation, die die Besonderheiten von Hubkolben-EM berücksichtigt. In der Arbeit werden exemplarisch zwei EM mit unterschiedlichen Arbeitsfluiden (Ethanol und Wasser) für dieselbe Pkw-Anwendung ausgelegt. Als Hubvolumen werden für die Expansionsmaschine für das Arbeitsfluid Ethanol ein Wert von 48,9 cm³ und für die Expansionsmaschine für das Arbeitsfluid Wasser ein Hubvolumen von 18,8 cm³ bestimmt. Der große Unterschied des Hubvolumens ist vor allem auf die unterschiedlichen Werte der mittleren Kolbengeschwindigkeit zurückzuführen, welche die Besonderheiten der beiden gewählten Schmierungskonzepte berücksichtigt. Als Grundlage für die Analyse dienen Simulationsergebnisse, die mit dem Simulationsprogramm GT Power V7.5 berechnet wurden. In beiden Anwendungen ist im Auslegungsfall die Reibung eine dominante Quelle für Verluste. Die Reibung wird mit Hilfe von der in dieser Arbeit ermittelten Korrelationen berechnet, sodass dieser Verlustbeitrag durch die Konstruktion bzw. durch die Wahl des Schmierungskonzepts vorgegeben wird. Für die wichtigen Kennzahlen effektive Leistung und effektiv- und indiziert-isentroper Wirkungsgrad werden folgende Werte ermittelt: Die Anwendung mit Ethanol liefert für den gewählten Betriebspunkt eine effektive Leistung von 1475 W mit einem effektiv-isentropen Wirkungsgrad von 54,3 % bzw. einem indiziert-isentropen Wirkungsgrad von 71,2 %. Die Anwendung mit Wasser generiert eine effektive Leistung von 1833 W mit einem effektivisentropen Wirkungsgrad von 56,8 % bzw. einem indiziert-isentropen Wirkungsgrad von 66,0 %. Mit der Anwendung, die für Ethanol ausgelegt wurde, ist es somit möglich, mit Hilfe des RC eine zusätzliche Leistung durch Abwärmenutzung bereitzustellen, welche 3,34 % der Motorleistung für den ausgewählten Betriebspunkt entspricht. Für die Anwendung mit Wasser liegt der Anteil sogar bei 4,16 %, wobei der Unterschied zwischen den beiden Konzepten maßgeblich auf ihre Reibung zurückzuführen ist. Zudem erlaubt der Einsatz des Fluids Wasser das Einstellen einer höheren maximalen Prozesstemperatur, wodurch der Rankine-Kreisprozess effizienter abläuft. Der thermische Prozesswirkungsgrads des RC liegt mit Ethanol bei 18,9 % und mit Wasser bei 27,1 %. Zu den übrigen Verlustquellen der EM lässt sich für die beiden Anwendungen folgendes festhalten: Der Wärmeübergangskoeffizient ist in der Anwendung mit Ethanol trotz der niedrigeren mittleren Kolbengeschwindigkeit im Maximum größer als in der Anwendung mit Wasser, was vor allem auf die unterschiedlichen Stoffwerte zurückzuführen ist. Verluste durch Wandwärmeübergang werden dennoch am ehesten durch die Differenz aus Fluid- und Wandtemperatur der Arbeitskammer beeinflusst. Die Verluste durch Leckage und Blowby verhalten sich für beide Anwendungen ähnlich, wobei für diese Verlustquellen die Stoffeigenschaften von Ethanol im Vergleich zu denen von Wasser eher nachteilig sind, da ein niedriger Isentropenexponent strömungstechnische Vorgänge wie Leckage und Blowby eher unterstützt. Auch Verluste durch einen Schadraum und durch unvollständige Expansion nehmen durch einen niedrigen Isentropenexponenten eher zu. Für beide Konzepte gilt, dass Leckage der Ladungswechselorgane die Effizienz des Arbeitsprozesses deutlich reduziert, wobei das Auslassventil größere Verluste durch Leckage verursacht als das Einlassventil., One of the most challenging demands for vehicle manufacturers is to meet future legislative restrictions of fuel consumption. Modern combustion engines convert approximately one third of the chemical energy of the fuel into mechanically usable energy. The rest of the energy leaves the vehicle in form of heat via cooling devices or the exhaust gas system. Thus, a promising way to reduce fuel consumption is waste heat recovery by means of a thermal power process. Former investigations showed that a Rankine Cycle (RC) in combination with the working fluid ethanol results in high efficiency as well as in small installation space. It has to be said, that naming of an RC depends on its working fluid: If an organic fluid like ethanol is used the power process is called Organic Rankine Process (ORC) whereas non-organic fluids like water are used in RC. One part of the RC is the expansion engine in which heat power is converted into mechanical power. You can say that the expansion engine is a key component of the RC as its performance directly affects the system efficiency. In this thesis, only reciprocating engines are considered. Size and configuration of an expansion engine are influenced by many circumstances or conditions, e.g. feeding heat source, place of installation and working fluid. For these reasons it is evident that great care has to be taken if a new expansion engine is to be designed. One part of this thesis aims at providing a detailed methodology, which enables to design a custom-fit expansion engine for a given application. In order to make estimations about system efficiency it is necessary to calculate losses and especially friction. As friction of an expansion engine is a result of many causes, there exists no global approach which enables to calculate overall friction. For this reason, component specific correlations are presented, which lead to modular calculation of overall friction of an expansion engine. One part of friction is caused by the piston rings that can be implemented differently: There are piston rings which are lubricated and made of iron, or piston rings which are self-lubricating and made of e.g. PTFE. Obviously their friction differs considerably. Thus, in this thesis three different approaches are presented, which enable to calculate friction of different kinds of expansion engines. This part of the thesis is based on both theoretical and practical research. Another part of this thesis deals with sealing concepts for expansion engines: This survey is motivated by the fact, that exhaust gas heat transfer devices may be destroyed by lube oil that has its origin in the lubrication of the expansion engine. The second part of this thesis deals with the analysis of a given expansion engine. If an existing expansion engine is to be analyzed, a detailed understanding of the expansion process is needed. This can be reached when the whole process is described mathematically. There are several tools which are state of the art in order to analyze combustion engines. Nevertheless, there is no known methodology, which concerns characteristic issues of an expansion engine like working fluid different from air or heat transfer of superheated steam. For this reason, one part of this thesis deals with the development of a heat transfer correlation for expansion engines. Furthermore, a methodology is presented, which enables to analyze the expansion process step by step. As a result, losses can be analyzed little by little and their impact is quantified. Thus, cause and impact of each kind of loss of the expansion process is laid open, which may lead to precise and targetoriented counter action. Both methodologies, design and analysis of an expansion engine, are presented exemplary in a third part of this thesis: First, two kinds of expansion engines are designed for a given passenger car application. The major difference of the expansion engines is their working fluid, which is ethanol respectively water. Second, in the following part of the thesis a detailed thermodynamic analysis is presented. The analysis of the expansion engines is based on simulation, which was performed in GT Suite V7.5. Major results of this part are several degrees of efficiency: Regarding overall efficiency of an ORC, you can say, that the efficiency of ethanol is diminished because of its maximum operating temperature. If ethanol is used, the maximum operating temperature has to be limited to 550 K. Mainly for this reason, an ORC with ethanol leads to thermal efficiency of 18,9 % whereas water leads to 27,1 %. These efficiencies allow to recover waste heat of an combustion engine which equals 1475 W or 3,34 % of effective brake power (ethanol) respectively 1833 W and 4,16 % if water is used. These results are mainly driven by the high level of heat source temperature which favours water because of its good resistance to heat. The expansion process performance is evaluated in respect to the isentropic change of the enthalpy of the working fluid between intake and outlet. The indicated-isentropic efficiency of an expansion engine with ethanol adds up to 71,2 % whereas the usage of water results in 66,0 %. Both expansion engines efficiencies are diminished mainly by friction which is estimated concerning different approaches of design, lubrication and sealing. Ethanol allows an effectiveisentropic efficiency of the expansion process of 54,3 % and water of 56,8 %. As these approaches of design, lubrication and sealing differ significantly from each other, they result also in a different maximum speed of the expansion engines. Thus, the expansion engine with ethanol works with a mean piston speed of 4 m/s and the expansion engine with water with a mean piston speed of 10 m/s. This difference in speed results in different sizes of the expansion engines which also affects losses of gas exchange and especially losses of the intake process. Losses because of heat transfer are mainly dependent on the difference between fluid temperature and wall temperature. For this reason, the expansion engines with water have higher losses because of heat transfer although the maximum heat transfer coefficient is smaller compared to the maximum heat transfer coefficient for the expansion engine with ethanol. Losses because of blowby and because of leakage are mainly driven by the pressure difference of heir adjacent components. As the pressure differences for these kinds of losses are more or less similar to each other for both expansion engines, the influence of material properties of the working fluids can be compared to each other. It can be concluded, that fluids with a lower ratio of specific heats tend to have higher losses because of leakage. A similar conclusion can be drawn for further losses: Fluids with lower ratio of specific heats tend to have higher losses because of incomplete expansion and because of dead space.

Für batterieelektrische Fahrzeuge sind sinkende Ladezeiten, welche aufgrund von steigenden Ladeleistungen ermöglicht werden, ein entscheidender Faktor für deren Akzeptanz beim Kunden. Für einen solchen Schnellladevorgang der Traktionsbatterie ist ein leistungsstarkes Kühlsystem erforderlich, da aus den hohen Ladeleistungen große dissipierte Wärmemengen in der Batterie resultieren, welche durch das Thermomanagement abgeführt werden müssen. Insbesondere bei hohen Umgebungstemperaturen muss eine thermische Begrenzung der Ladeleistung verhindert und die gleichzeitige Erhaltungsklimatisierung des Innenraums für den Komfort der Insassen gewährleistet werden. Dafür wird bei heutigen Fahrzeugen ein Kältekreislauf mit zwei parallel angeordneten Verdampfern für die Kühlung der Batterie und des Innenraums verwendet. Das Kältemittel verdampft in diesen beiden Wärmeübertragern auf dem gleichen Druckniveau, welches durch die niedrigeren Temperaturanforderungen des Innenraums festgelegt ist. Die Temperaturanforderungen und damit die dafür jeweils benötigten Verdampfungsdrücke des Kältemittels für die Kabinenluft und das Batteriekühlwasser unterscheiden sich beim Schnellladevorgang allerdings signifikant, was sich negativ auf die Energieeffizienz des Kälteprozesses auswirkt. In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden zweistufige Kältekreislaufkonzepte mit dem Kältemittel R-1234yf experimentell und numerisch untersucht, mit dem Ziel, eine neuartige Kühlung der Batterie und des Innenraums während des Schnellladevorgangs umzusetzen. Dabei werden die verschiedenen Temperaturanforderungen dieser beiden Komponenten ausgenutzt, um unterschiedliche Verdampfungsdruckniveaus einzusetzen und so die Kälteleistung und die Effizienz des Systems während des Schnellladevorgangs zu steigern. Neben zwei Verschaltungsvarianten mit Ejektor wird der Einsatz eines Zusatzverdichters betrachtet. Im Mittelpunkt stehen dabei die experimentellen Labor-Untersuchungen, um die Potenziale dieser drei Kreislauftopologien gegenüber einem Referenzsystem zu bestimmen. In den betrachteten stationären Lastfällen eines Schnellladevorgangs mit Erhaltungsklimatisierung wird sowohl durch den Einsatz eines Ejektors als auch des Zusatzverdichters die verfügbare Kälteleistung im Mittel der Lastpunkte um bis zu 20,5 % (Ejektor) bzw. 45,8 % (Zusatzverdichter) sowie die Energieeffizienz um bis zu 22 % (Ejektor) bzw. 14,6 % (Zusatzverdichter) gesteigert. Aufgrund der konstanten Werte für die Eintrittstemperatur und den Volumenstrom des Kühlwassers im Chiller ist der Mitteldruck des Systems begrenzt, um eine ausreichende Temperaturdifferenz zwischen Kältemittel und Kühlwasser bei der Verdampfung sicherzustellen. Es wird zudem ein Prototyp eines Ejektors aus Kunststoff untersucht, wodurch erstmalig die grundsätzliche Funktionalität eines Kunststoffejektors in einem Kältekreislauf eines batterieelektrischen Fahrzeugs aufgezeigt wird. Im numerischen Teil der Arbeit werden die Verschaltungsvarianten mit dem höchsten Steigerungspotenzial für eine Exergieanalyse numerisch modelliert. Die Auswertung der Exergieströme zeigt die signifikante Reduzierung der Exergieverluste insbesondere während des Drosselvorgangs und der Wärmeübertragung im Batterieverdampfer aufgrund des implementieren Mitteldruckniveaus. Für die zweite Ejektorverschaltung mit R-1234yf wird eine neuartige Erweiterung um eine Bypassleitung vorgestellt, wodurch die maximale Kälteleistung nicht weiter durch das Mitteldruckniveau limitiert wird. Darüber hinaus wird für das natürliche Kältemittel R-744 das Potenzial zur Steigerung der Kälteleistung in den stationären Schnellladelastfällen durch den Einsatz eines Ejektors aufgezeigt und die Verlustmechanismen ebenfalls mittels einer Exergieanalyse dargestellt. Abschließend erfolgt ein Vergleich der Verlustanteile für die beiden Kältemittel R-1234yf und R-744., The charging times of battery electric vehicles are decreasing as the charging power continues to increase. This is a decisive factor for customer acceptance. During such a fast charging process, the high charging power results in large amounts of dissipated heat in the battery. For this reason, a powerful thermal management system is required to cool down the battery sufficiently. Especially at high ambient temperatures the thermal limitation of the charging power must be prevented and the simultaneous air conditioning of the interior must be ensured for the comfort of the passengers. For this purpose, today's vehicles use a refrigeration circuit with two evaporators arranged in parallel to cool down the battery and the interior. The refrigerant evaporates in these two heat exchangers at the same pressure level, which is determined by the lower temperature requirements of the cabin. However, the temperature requirements and therefore the respective required evaporating pressures of the refrigerant for the cabin air and the battery cooling water differ significantly in the fast charging process, which have an impact on a reduced energy efficiency of the refrigeration process. The present work investigates experimentally and numerically two-stage refrigeration cycle concepts using the refrigerant R-1234yf, with the intention to implement a new type of battery and interior cooling during the fast charging process. For this purpose, the different temperature requirements of these two components are exploited to use different evaporating pressure levels to increase the cooling capacity and the efficiency of the system during the fast charging process. The use of an additional compressor is considered, in addition to two circuit variants with an ejector. The focus is on experimental studies to determine the potentials of these three refrigeration circuit topologies compared to a reference system. In the considered steady-state load cases of a fast charging process with air conditioning, the use of both an ejector and the additional compressor increases the available cooling capacity by up to 20,5% (ejector) and 45,8% (additional compressor) respectively, on average over the load points. Energy efficiency is increased by up to 22% (ejector) and 14,6% (additional compressor). Due to the constant values for the inlet temperature and the volume flow of the cooling water in the chiller the medium pressure of the system is limited to ensure a sufficient temperature difference between refrigerant and cooling water for the evaporation. In addition, a prototype ejector made of polymer is being investigated, demonstrating for the first time a battery electric vehicle’s basic functionality of a polymer ejector in a refrigeration circuit. In the numerical part of this work, the circuit variants with the highest increase potential are numerically modeled for exergy analysis. The evaluation of the exergy flows shows the significant reduction of exergy losses. Especially during the throttling process and the heat transfer in the battery evaporator, exergy losses are significantly reduced due to the implemented intermediate pressure level. A new extension with a bypass line is presented for the second ejector circuit variant with R-1234yf, whereby the maximum cooling capacity is no longer limited by the intermediate pressure level. Besides that, the potential to increase the refrigeration capacity in the stationary fast charging load cases is shown, by using an ejector for the natural refrigerant R-744. The loss mechanisms are also presented by means of an exergy analysis. Finally, the loss rates for the two refrigerants R-1234yf and R-744 are compared.

Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun and also the smallest planet inside the solar system. Ground-based and spacecraft observations of Mariner 10 and MESSENGER investigated Mercury's unique plasma environment. Similar to Earth, Mercury possesses a dipole magnetic field, which is deformed into a tiny, Earth-like magnetosphere due to the interaction with the impinging solar wind plasma. Two important current systems inside the magnetosphere of Earth are the "Region 1" and "Region 2" currents, as they ensure conservation of energy and momentum within the magnetosphere. However, "Region 2" currents have yet to be observed in the Hermean magnetosphere. Consequently, one of the unanswered questions about Mercury's magnetosphere is how the current system is closed. The impinging solar wind varies on short time scales resulting in a constant reconfiguration of Mercury's magnetosphere. In particular, when large dynamic pressure are present, due to coronal mass ejections (ICMEs), the magnetosphere is pushed onto the planetary surface which will be under direct bombardment of the solar wind particles. The moon-like surface is embedded with a thin sodium exosphere, which is generated from particle-surface and radiation-surface processes and meteroid impacts. The subsequent photoionization generates sodium ions which are able to fill the whole magnetosphere, leading to a downstream sodium tail. Direct observations of sodium ions densities imply an negligible effect on the global magnetosphere. However, new models and indirect derivations show how sodium ion densities might reach larger values by multiple orders of magnitude. This thesis is aimed to investigate these peculiarities with the numerical hybrid code AIKEF. The large gyroradii of the ions in the magnetosphere make the application of a hybrid model necessary and some of the open questions about Mercury's environment can be investigated. How Mercury's magnetosphere reacts to ICME interaction will be analyzed. A large effort will be given to investigate the closure of the magnetospheric current system under extreme conditions. Furthermore, a realistic model of a significant sodium exosphere will be examined, resulting in a significant increase of the magnetospheric volume. In consequence, the resulting conductivity above the planetary surface enables "Region 2" type currents to arise, which are located beneath the trajectories of the previous spacecrafts. In contrast, these currents will be observable by the new BepiColombo mission., Merkur ist der sonnennächste und kleinste Planet des Sonnensystems. Ausgehend von Teleskop-Beobachtungen von der Erde und Messungen durch die Raumsonden Mariner 10 und MESSENGER zeichnen sich Merkur und seine Plasmaumgebung als einzigartig im Sonnensystem aus. Ähnlich der Erde besitzt Merkur ein eigenes Magnetfeld, welches durch die Wechselwirkung mit dem von der Sonne kommenden Partikelstrom, dem Sonnenwind, in eine erdähnliche, aber winzige Magnetosphäre gepresst wird. Dies wirft unter Anderem einige Fragen bezüglich des Zusammenschlusses der Stromsysteme innerhalb der Magnetosphäre auf. Innerhalb der Erdmagnetosphäre sind die "Region 1" und "Region 2" Ströme essentiell, um Energie- und Impulserhaltung zu gewährleisten. Jedoch wurden "Region 2" Ströme in Merkurs Magnetosphäre noch nicht beobachtet. Aufgrund des sehr variablen Sonnenwindes steht die Magnetosphäre unter steter Rekonfiguration, insbesondere wenn interplanetare koronale Massenejektionen (ICMEs) mit ihrem immensen Druck auf den Merkur einwirken. In einem solchen Fall kann die Magnetosphäre bis auf die Planetenoberfläche herangedrückt werden, wobei der Sonnenwind direkt mit der Oberfläche interagieren kann. Die mondähnliche Oberfläche ist von einer sehr dünnen Natrium-Exosphäre umgeben, die durch Sonnenwindeinwirkung, Sonneneinstrahlung und Meteroiteneinschlägen generiert wird. Durch nachfolgende Photoionisation können die Natrium-Ionen die gesamte Magnetosphäre befüllen, wodurch Merkur einen Natrium-Schweif bildet. Direkte Messungen durch die Raumsonden zeigten, dass die Natriumionen vermeintlich so kleine Dichten erreichen, dass sie keinen nennenswerten Einfluss auf die Magnetosphäre nehmen. Jedoch werden mit aktuellen Modellen der Natrium-Ionen-Dichten Werte er-reicht, die um ein Vielfaches größer sein können und dadurch die Magnetosphäre signifikant beeinflussen. Diese Dissertation handelt von der numerischen Untersuchung von Merkurs Magnetosphären-Exosphären-System und seiner Interaktion mit dem einwirkenden Sonnenwind mittels des Hybridcodes AIKEF. Aufgrund der großen Gyroradien der verschiedenen Plasma-Spezies ist ein solcher Hybrid-Ansatz erforderlich. Mittels AIKEF lassen sich einige offene Fragen bezüglich der Merkur-Umgebung beantworten. So wird gezeigt, wie stark sich die Merkur-Magnetosphäre durch das Auftreffen einer CME im Vergleich zu den normalen Sonnenwindbedingungen ändert. Insbesondere wird ein Großteil der Arbeit auf das "Schließungsproblem" der magnetosphärischen Ströme gerichtet. Es wird gezeigt, dass eine signifikante Natrium-Exosphäre das Volumen der Magnetosphäre stark vergrößert und eine hohe Leitfähigkeit bereitstellt, die das globale Stromsystem neu konfiguriert. Als direkte Folge entstehen "Region 2" Ströme, jedoch in Höhen unterhalb jeder Trajektorie der bisherigen Raumsonden, was die fehlende Beobachtung erklären könnte. Die Trajektorien der zukünftgen BepiColombo Mission erweisen sich aber als tief genug, diese Ströme beobachten zu können.

In this paper, a passive damper based on energy dissipation through shock and dry friction (shock-friction damper) is investigated regarding its design and effectiveness for damping self-excited torsional vibrations similar to those occurring in deep drilling. The results are compared to the results of conventional friction dampers. The effectiveness of the damper for different operational drilling parameters that change during the drilling process, such as the weight on the bit and the rotary speed of the bit, is analyzed. Two linear reduced order models of a drill string that are based on a complex finite element model are set up. One is reduced using the component mode synthesis and one is reduced to the identified critical mode. A lumped mass represents the inertia of a forcedly connected nonlinear damper. A combined reduced order model of the complex system and the inertia damper is introduced to investigate its dynamic motion and stability. Particular focus is on the energy flow within the dynamic system and on the change of the dissipation energy in the contact. A semi-analytical solution is derived using the harmonic balance method that is used to investigate the damping effect for various designs and operational parameters. Herein, the modal properties as well as parameters of the damper are examined regarding the damping effect and the stability of the system. Finally, the capability of the mechanism to suppress the self-excitation due to the bit–rock interaction in a drilling system is discussed, and recommendations are made with respect to the design parameters and placement of the damper.

Im Rahmen der Wende zur klimaneutralen Mobilität gewinnt der Einsatz von Batteriesystemen in elektrischen Fahrzeugen zunehmend an Bedeutung. Dabei hat das Thermomanagement von Lithium-Ionen-Zellen entscheidenden Einfluss auf Leistung, Reichweite und Sicherheit. Zur Umsetzung des Batteriethermomanagementsystems (BTMS) sind in der Wissenschaft und Serienanwendung verschiedene Konzepte zu finden. Für die Methodik zur Auslegung des BTMS sind zudem einzelne Ansätze in der Wissenschaft entwickelt worden. Es fehlt jedoch an einem umfassenden Prozess, der diese Ansätze verbindet und somit eine quantifizierbare Entscheidung zwischen den Konzepten ermöglicht. Ein solcher Prozess wird in der vorliegenden Arbeit vorgestellt. Anhand des neuen Prozesses werden die verschiedenen Freiheitsgrade zur thermischen Auslegung des Batteriesystems strukturiert erfasst und quantifiziert. Sie umfassen z. B. die Auswahl der Kühlfläche am Modul und das verwendete Fluid. Insgesamt ergeben sich sechs Freiheitsgrade, von denen vier zu einem neu eingeführten Systemfreiheitsgrad zusammengefasst werden. Der Prozess soll eine quantifizierte Grundlage zum Konzeptentscheid für ein optimales BTMS ermöglichen, indem der Lösungsraum aus Systemfreiheitsgrad, Kühlfläche am Modul und Strömungsführung ausgewertet wird. Für die Auswertung wird eine analytische Vorauswahl und eine Optimierung von Kühlplatten etabliert. In der Vorauswahl werden diverse Kandidaten aus Systemfreiheitsgrad und Kühlfläche am Modul auf elektrische und thermische Kriterien hin überprüft. Für Kandidaten mit Kühlplatten ergibt sich der zusätzliche Freiheitsgrad der Strömungsführung, der anhand der Optimierung von Kühlplatten für Kühl- und Kältemittel festgelegt wird. Somit wird der Lösungsraum der Konzepte aus allen drei Freiheitsgraden vollständig beschrieben. Anhand der Ergebnisse aus Analytik und Optimierung wird der quantifizierte Konzeptentscheid ermöglicht. Der gesamte Prozess wird für ein Kompaktklasse-Szenario und ein Stadtbusszenario angewandt, und anhand der Ergebnisse werden allgemeine Richtlinien zur thermischen Auslegung von Batteriesystemen induziert. Die Richtlinien umfassen u. a. die Benennung günstiger Einsatzbereiche von passiver Luftkühlung, Kühlmittelkühlung über Niedertemperaturkühler (NTK) und Verdampfungskühlung mit CO2. Es werden zudem diverse Aussagen zur topologischen und geometrischen Auslegung von Kühlplatten für Kühl- und Kältemittel abgeleitet., In order to provide mobility with neutral impact on climate, battery systems and their application in electric vehicles have been gaining increasing significance. Therefore, the thermal management of lithium-ion cells is crucial in terms of power, range and safety. There are different concepts for the implementation of battery thermal management systems (BTMS) to be found in literature and series production. As a methodology for battery thermal design, several approaches have been developed. Nevertheless, a comprehensive process to combine these approaches and provide a quantifiable decision between different concepts is still missing. Thus, such a process will be presentend in this thesis. There are several degrees of freedom for the thermal design of the battery system, which have to be described and determined by the new process. The degrees of freedom include, for example, the choice of the module surface used for cooling and the fluid for heat transfer. There are six degrees of freedom in total, four of which are combined into the new system degree of freedom. Thus, the system degree of freedom, module surface and flow configuration remain and their combinations have to be evaluated. By means of this evaluation, a quantified basis to identify an optimal BTMS concept is to be delivered by this process. An analytical part and an optimization of cooling plates are established as a methodology for evaluation. In the analytical part, the candidates, described by combinations of system degree of freedom and cooling surface, are evaluated in respect of electrical and thermal criteria. For candidates with cooling plates, the flow configuration is an additional degree of freedom that has to be determined. This is done by the cooling plate optimization model for liquid and evaporation cooling. By means of both the analytical and optimization part, the entire solution space of all three degrees of freedom is covered and the quantifiable decision for an optimal BTMS is made possible. This new process is applied for two different settings, a battery electric passenger car and an electrified city bus. From the results, general rules for battery thermal design are derived. These rules include, for example, the identification of suitable settings to apply passive cooling, liquid cooling via air-liquid heat transfer unit, or CO2 evaporation cooling. Additionally, several rules for the topological and geometric design of cooling plates are derived.

Die Verordnung über elektromagnetische Felder (26. BImSchV) legt in Deutschland Grenzwerte für von ortsfesten Anlagen ausgehende elektrische, magnetische und elektromagnetische Felder an für die Allgemeinbevölkerung zugänglichen Orten fest. Zusätzlich zur Grenzwerteinhaltung wird im Bereich der energietechnischen Anlagen seit dem Jahr 2016 über eine zusätzlich erlassene Verwaltungsvorschrift (26. BImSchVVwV) eine möglichst starke Verringerung der elektrischen und magnetischen Felder verlangt. Zu diesem Zweck führt die 26. BImSchVVwV eine Reihe von Minimierungsmaßnahmen auf, die bei Errichtung und/oder wesentlicher Änderung einer solchen Anlage zu prüfen und gegebenenfalls umzusetzen sind. Diese Minimierungsmaßnahmen sind zwar in weiten Teilen grundsätzlich wirksam, ihrer Verwirklichung stehen aber oftmals praktische Gründe oder andere Schutzgüter entgegen. Wenige dieser Maßnahmen sind entgegen den Angaben der 26. BImSchVVwV wirkungslos oder bewirken unter Umständen sogar eine Erhöhung der Feldstärken. Gleichwohl führen die oben erkannten Defizite der 26. BImSchVVwV nicht zu ihrer juristischen Angreifbarkeit. Dies liegt daran, dass die 26. BImSchVVwV als sogenannte normkonkretisierende Verwaltungsvorschrift nur einer eingeschränkten gerichtlichen Kontrolle unterliegt und die von ihr als wirksam postulierten Minimierungsmaßnahmen daher auch in einem etwaigen Gerichtsverfahren als solche anzusehen wären. Aus diesem Grund und wegen des von der 26. BImSchVVwV eingeräumten Ermessensspielraums wird es einem betroffenen Netzbetreiber oder einem beteiligten immissionsschutzrechtlichen Nachbarn nur in Ausnahmefällen möglich sein, eine gegebenenfalls von einer Behörde getroffene Auswahl durchzuführender Minimierungsmaßnahmen rechtlich anzugreifen bzw. zusätzlich durchzuführende Maßnahmen durchzusetzen. Abgesehen davon weist die 26. BImSchV auch besondere Vorschriften zur Sicherstellung der Grenzwerteinhaltung für den Fall auf, dass sich elektrische, magnetische und/oder elektromagnetische Felder unterschiedlicher Frequenzen überlagern. Im Falle der Überlagerung der Felder einer Nieder- und einer Hochfrequenzanlage führen die Eigenheiten des Nahfeldes der Hochfrequenzanlage und die Ausgestaltung der Feldstärkegrenzwerte im Hochfrequenzbereich dazu, dass in der Praxis nur bei der elektrischen Feldstärke eine Prüfung auf Grenzwerteinhaltung bei Feldüberlagerung erforderlich ist, während diese bei der magnetischen Feldstärke vernachlässigt werden kann., The German Ordinance on Electromagnetic Fields (26. BImSchV) establishes limiting values for electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields originating from fixed installations in places accessible to the general public. In addition to compliance with those limiting values, from 2016 on an additionally issued administrative regulation called the 26. BImSchVVwV also requires the greatest possible minimization of electric and magnetic field strengths, as far as energy equipment is concerned. For this purpose, the 26. BImSchVVwV lists a number of minimization measures that must be examined and, if applicable, implemented whenever such equipment is newly constructed and/or significantly modified. Although most of these minimization measures are effective in principle, their implementation is often opposed to practical reasons or other protected interests. Few of these measures are, contrary to what the 26. BImSchVVwV states, ineffective or may even cause an increase in field strengths. There are other technically effective minimization measures that are not listed in the 26. BImSchVVwV, but these are ruled out for technical reasons or for reasons of disproportionate effort and benefit. Nevertheless, the deficits of the 26. BImSchVVwV identified above do not lead to its legal vulnerability. This is due to the fact that the 26. BImSchVVwV, as a so-called norm-concretizing administrative regulation, is only subject to limited judicial control and the minimization measures it postulates as effective should therefore also be regarded as such in legal proceedings. For this reason and because of the discretion granted by the 26. BImSchVVwV, an affected grid operator or a neighbor will only in exceptional cases be able to legally attack a selection of minimization measures carried out by an authority or to enforce additional measures, respectively. Apart from this, the 26. BImSchV also establishes rules to ensure compliance with the limiting values in the event that electric, magnetic and/or electromagnetic fields of different frequencies overlap. In the case of overlapping fields from a low- and a high-frequency installation, the properties of the near field of the high-frequency installation and the peculiarities of the limiting values lead to an investigation for compliance with the limiting values being necessary only for the electrical field strength, whereas such investigation can be neglected in practice for the magnetic field strength.

This thesis contributes to modelling and quantification of interactions between thermal systems in supermarkets. The main goal of this thesis is to describe the interactions between thermal systems in supermarkets by means of physical models and to quantify their energetic impact. To achieve this overall goal, three subgoals are defined. The first subgoal is the breakdown of supermarkets into control volumes and the definition of physical interactions between them. In this work, the usage of physical modelling implies two aspects: Firstly, using first principle models and secondly using physical connections between objects. The second subgoal refers to the analysis of the air exchange between refrigerated display cabinets and the sales area. The focus lays on the quantification of the air exchange and the determination of the influence of door openings on this air exchange. In laboratory tests, an adapted tracer gas method using CO2 is used to determine the air change rates between the display cabinets and the sales room for three typical supermarket cabinets. Additionally, a second way of quantifying the impact of door openings on the air infiltration uses the so-called thermal entrainment factor (TEF). The applications of the developed models are exemplified. The prediction of the energy consumption of a period of 28 days deviates only 3.3% from measurement data. The analysis of the effects of incoming and outgoing customers on fresh air change rates is the third subgoal of this thesis. This air exchange is highly relevant because it affects the thermal loads of the heating and air conditioning system as well as the need for ventilation. In order to estimate the air change rates, a model of the CO2 concentration in the sales room air is developed, which uses the air change rates of the closed and opened entrance door as parameters. The prediction of the CO2 concentration works very well: the mean absolute error of 26ppm is below the accuracy of the measurement data. Additionally, the entire supermarket is simulated with the objective to predict the humidity of the sales room air. The humidity ratio in the test supermarket for a period of 14 day could be predicted with a mean absolute error of 0.3g/kg, which again is below the accuracy of the measurement data. Finally, several of the interactions between thermal systems in a supermarket are quantified exemplarily. The energetic impact of the shopping of one customer is analysed for three scenarios., Ziel dieser Arbeit ist die Beschreibung der Wechselwirkungen zwischen thermischen Systemen in Supermärkten sowie die Quantifizierung ihres energetischen Einflusses. Hierzu werden drei Teilziele definiert. Das erste Teilziel besteht in der Unterteilung eines Supermarktes in Bilanzräume und der Definition von Schnittstellen zur Beschreibung der Wechselwirkungen. Die typischerweise in einem Supermarkt vorhandenen Systeme Kühlmöbel, Kälteanlage sowie Verkaufsraum werden in dieser Arbeit betrachtet. Das zweite Teilziel bezieht sich auf die Analyse des Luftaustausches zwischen den Kühlmöbeln und dem Verkaufsraum. Dieser ist besonders wichtig, da er einerseits zum Wärme- und Feuchtigkeitseintrag in das Kühlmöbel führt, was den Kühlbedarf erhöht. Andererseits hat dieser Luftaustausch eine Abkühlung sowie Entfeuchtung der Verkaufsraumluft zur Folge. Der Schwerpunkt der Untersuchung liegt auf der Quantifizierung dieses Luftaustausches sowie der Bestimmung des Türöffnungseinflusses. In Laborversuchen wird eine adaptierte Tracergas Methode mit dem Gas CO2 verwendet, um den Luftaustausch typischer Kühlmöbel mit Türen zu untersuchen. Weiterhin wird eine zweite Methode zur Bestimmung des Türöffnungseinflusses vorgestellt, die auf dem als dimensionslose Infiltrationsrate interpretierbaren thermal entrainment factor (TEF) basiert. Die Simulationsmodelle und gemessenen Infiltrationsraten in Kühlmöbeln werden genutzt, um den Strombedarf der Kühlmöbel und der R-744 Verbundkälteanlage eines realen Supermarktes vorauszuberechnen. Die Abweichung des für einen Zeitraum von 28 Tagen vorausberechneten Energiebedarfs beträgt 3.3%. Die Untersuchung des Einflusses von herein- und herausgehenden Kunden auf die Luftwechselraten des Verkaufsraumes stellt das dritte Teilziel dieser Arbeit dar. Hierzu wird ein Modell zur Bestimmung der CO2 Konzentration in der Verkaufsraumluft entwickelt, welches die Luftwechselraten mit geöffneter bzw. geschlossener Eingangstür als Parameter nutzt. Der CO2 Gehalt kann mit einer Abweichung von 26ppm und somit innerhalb der Messungenauigkeit vorhergesagt werden. Eine weitere Anwendung der Simulationstechnik wird vorgestellt: Der gesamte Supermarkt wird simuliert mit dem Ziel die Wasserbeladung im Verkaufsraum vorherzusagen. Dies gelingt mit einer sehr geringen Abweichung (0.3g/kg). Abschließend wird der energetische Einfluss eines einzelnen Kunden und die von ihm verursachten Wechselwirkungen für drei Szenarien (Winter, Frühling, Sommer) bewertet.
