This presentation offers a side-by-side comparison of the publication processes for traditional monographs versus complex interactive digital projects. Prepared by Stanford University Press whose 6-year Mellon-funded digital publishing initiative is coming to a close in December 2023, the presentation reflects on the highly collaborative processes digital publications require.

This workshop uses the environment created around the HTR-United catalog to demonstrate and discuss how to build a dataset of ground truth for text recognition and document it, and how to use HTR-United and its suite of tools to control its quality and describe it in a standardized way.

We present the development of a richly annotated corpus of historical proceedings of the Carniolan Regional Assembly, which was the highest legislative body of the autonomy of the Carniola Herzogtum of the Habsburg Empire. We present our ongoing effort to develop Rekall-IIIF, a platform that aims at providing an extensible software base for all communities in need for multimedia and multimodal annotation tools. It is modular, Open Source and built on the IIIF standard (https://iiif.io/).

The improvement of the automatic transcription of manuscripts relies on an easier access to training data of good quality (ground truth). HTR-United offers a solution to find and document such datasets, potentially creating a common. We present the set-up of this ecosystem and its main outcomes.

This poster presents the collaborative creation of a dataset of 100.000+ pages of handwritten police reports as a successful example of large-scale digitisation initiatives by small-scale research projects. It shows efficient solutions for applying Handwritten Text Recognition techniques on challenging historical documents and for bypassing noisy training material.

We propose to leverage public vulnerability scanners to examine the servers where online digital projects are hosted and list their common vulnerabilities. Provided in an anonymized, aggregated fashion, this assessment will shed light on our hypothesis: cyber threats are a significant factor in the degradation of online projects.

A blueprint for establishing a workflow for generating research data in humanities research projects using the example of the project Exil.Trans. FAIR criteria as well as Linked Open Data principles and ontology-based modeling are addressed.

PUDEL is a new service for sharing and documenting DH data models. It is developed as a free and open-source software, and can easily be included into existing DH research practices. It provides institutions, researchers and specialists with the tools for sharing and preserving their data models.

OstData is a research data service for Central, East, and Southeast European Studies. Based on its fine-grained metadata schema and faceted classification system, the research data repository and discovery system enables interdisciplinary collaboration as opportunity and fosters networking of national and international research communities, research infrastructures, and funders.

Manu McFrench is a handwritten text recognition (HTR) model dedicated to French texts from the modern and contemporary periods. It was trained using data generated through the CREMMA infrastructure and/or shared via the HTR-United catalog. We demonstrate its usefulness to reduce the costs of training such models for specific handwritings.

The poster will reflect on significant waypoints in the course of creating the data model for SemanticKraus – a project concerned with integrating different Karl Kraus-related research data, converting it into Linked Data, and by doing so linking past and future Kraus research to the Semantic Web.

VedaWeb is an established research website for the ancient Vedic text Rigveda. It now evolves into an open collaborative platform for researching and sharing Vedic Sanskrit language data in a broader perspective. How will the new platform stimulate collaborative processes among researchers of Vedic Sanskrit and beyond?

Studies claim that open data will foster collaboration and cooperation. Our goal is to study how archaeologists collaborate and analize the potential of opening research data. To do that, we conducted 15 interviews to archaeologists in Catalonia and asked about their data sharing habits and perspectives on open data.

The contemporary focus on the 'data problem' in the humanities centers on the uniqueness of humanities data. We argue this is a mistake. Humanities data are not special because of what they are, but rather because of how they are used. The "problem" with Humanities data lies in the use-case.

In this paper we will present publication workflows developed by the DHd Data Steward for publishing conference papers of the DHd annual conferences and illustrate how the collaboration with the DHd community is an essential part of the improvement of the publication strategy within the DHd association. More precisely, we will introduce the DHd Task Force "DHd Abstracts", which is working on improving the submission and publication processes community-driven.

The DiÖ Sprachatlas tool is a dynamic map creation tool which uses the corpus of a large-scale variationist linguistics project as its source. By utlizing an API, it creates maps on negligible cost. Additionally, it offers a method of making the total corpus transparent and accessible.

This short presentation offers insight into the development process of a digital edition of archived social media. The presentation will outline general design choices and provide insight into the schema development as well as outline challenges.

The scientific instruments of the C18th/19th centuries are complex, consequent artefacts, encoding experimental possibilities, older craft knowledge and, frequently, colonial control. Surviving examples are often uniquely well-travelled: globally, locally and within collections. The paper considers the used of Linked Open Data to trace their physical and conceptual itineraries over time.

Digital editions, text collections, and lexical resources each have their own tradition in the (digital) humanities and at the same time, the data domains also share common methods and practices of indexing, modeling, and analysis. The Text+ consortium in the German National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI)is dedicated to the handling of research data in the three aforementioned research domains and is exploring methods and practices of cross-domain use of datasets and the resulting collaboration between research fields. The poster shows the connections between the three data domains in Text+ using a concrete example: the edition of letters by the German writer Jean Paul (Jean Paul Friedrich Richter, 1763–1825) of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BBAW). The poster was accepted and presented at the DH2023 conference in Graz.

The presentation discusses the notion of a "Proto-edition" which combines a pure visual representation of text with a deep description skipping the transcription of the text. It relates it theoretical models like Patrick Sahle's text wheel (2013) and the use of artificial Intelligence for creating "artifical editions" (Stutzmann at IMC 2019).

The poster aims to present (and discuss) the networking approach of the edition humboldt digital, which make extensive use of external data and web services.

In this poster we present the ongoing development of an integrated free and open source toolchain for semantic annotation of digitised cultural heritage. The toolchain development involves the specification of a common data model that aims to increase interoperability across diverse datasets and to enable new collaborative research approaches.
