Aim The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to analyse the clinical performance of GIOMER restorative composites and compare them with other conventional restorative materials in permanent teeth.Methods Searches in PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Ovid and Cochrane Library were conducted. Grey literature search was also performed. Clinical trials that evaluated the clinical performance of restorations with GIOMER restorative composites in permanent teeth compared to those using composite resin, glass ionomer cement, resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) and other GIOMERs were included. Meta-analyses comparing GIOMER restorative composites with RMGIC at 6- and 12-month follow-ups and comparing two types of GIOMER were feasible.Results Ten studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria. In these studies, GIOMER was compared to different types of dental restoration materials. Dental restorations were evaluated by United States Public Health Service criteria in all included studies. Four studies were suitable for meta-analysis, which showed significant differences between GIOMER and RMGIC surface roughness at 6-month (odds ratio [OR] = 6.56; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 2.38-18.13) and 12-month (OR = 8.76; CI = 3.19-24.07) follow-ups. No significant differences between GIOMER restorative composites and RMGIC for marginal adaptation were found at 6- and 12-month follow-ups. When comparing two GIOMERs, significant differences were seen between Beautifil II and Beautifil Flowable Plus F00 for marginal staining (OR = 2.58; CI = 1.42-23.27; I 2 = 0%) and surface roughness (OR = 4.59; CI = 1.11-18.97; I 2 = 0%) at the 36-month follow-up. No significant differences between Beautifil II and Beautifil Flowable Plus F00 were seen for marginal adaptation and anatomic form at 6-, 18- and 36-month follow-ups.Conclusions GIOMER restorative composites presented similar performance concerning marginal adaptation and better surface roughness when compared to RMGIC. GIOMER Beautifil II presented similar performance to GIOMER Beautifil Flow Plus F00 concerning marginal adaptation and anatomic form and worse marginal staining and surface roughness when compared to Beautifil Flowable Plus F00., (© 2022. The present study describes the synthesis of a novel series of thiazolidin-4-one and thiazinan-4-one using 1-(2-aminoethyl)pyrrolidine as amine precursor. All compounds were synthesised by one-pot three component cyclocondensation reaction from the amine, a substituted benzaldehyde and a mercaptocarboxylic acid. The compounds were obtained in moderate to good yields and were identified and characterised by 1 H, 13  C, 2 D NMR and GC/MS techniques. The compounds also were screened for their in vitro acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity in hippocampus and cerebral cortex on Wistar rats. The six most potent compounds have been investigated for their cytotoxicity by cell viability assay of astrocyte primary culture, an important cell of central nervous system. We highlighted two compounds ( 6a and 6k ) that had the lowest IC 50 in hippocampus (5.20 and 4.46 µM) and cerebral cortex (7.40 and 6.83 µM). These preliminary and important results could be considered a starting point for the development of new AChE inhibitory agents.

A series of nineteen benzothiazin-4-ones from N-(3-aminopropyl) piperidine, 4-(2-aminoethyl)morpholine or 1-(2-aminoethyl)piperidine, aliphatic or aromatic aldehyde and thiosalicylic acid, were synthesized in good yields by multicomponent one-pot reactions. The solvent was toluene and this efficient procedure afforded the desired heterocycles in 5 h. Identification and characterization were achieved by NMR and GC-MS techniques. In vitro AChE activities of all compounds were evaluated in cerebral cortex and hippocampus of rats and in general, the results in cortex were more promising than hippocampus. The benzothiazinone 5Bd showed the best AChE inhibition activity IC 50 8.48 μM (cortex) and IC 50 39.80 μM (hippocampus). The cytotoxicity of seven compounds in MCR-5 human fibroblast cell by SRB test in 24 h were evaluated and 5Bd suggest preliminary safety, showing no cytotoxicity at 100 µM. Finally, these important findings could be a starting point for the development of new AChE inhibitors agents and will provide the basis for new studies.

Regulation of cellular function is key to bone formation at endosseous implant surfaces. Osseointegration was "discovered" prior to the discovery of genetic regulation of osteoinduction or characterization of mesenchymal stem cells. Understanding osseointegration in cellular and molecular terms has benefited from genome-wide characterization of this healing process at endosseous implants in vivo. These in vivo studies also demonstrate a role for osteoprogenitor cells and cells involved in immune regulation and osteoclastogenesis. The identification of noncoding RNAs, including microRNAs, as key factors controlling cell function has highlighted the role of microRNAs in cell differentiation control. This review summarizes emerging in vitro and in vivo investigations emphasizing the role of microRNAs in the osseointegration process. Many microRNAs influence key osteoinductive pathways controlling Osterix, runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2), and bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)/SMAD function. Others influence the monocyte/macrophage lineage. While significant progress has been made in elucidating the mechanisms associated with the regulation of surface modulation of osteoblast differentiation by microRNAs, knowledge gaps are evident in the identification and characterization of microRNAs linked to osseointegration. Given existing knowledge regarding the varied expression of microRNAs and their role in inflammation, it is important to understand how microRNA expression may influence the process of bone accrual at implant surfaces during osseointegration.

A series of sixteen novel thiazolidinone derivatives were synthesized from the efficient one-pot reaction of 2-(piperidin-1-yl)ethylamine, arenealdehydes and mercaptoacetic acid in good yields. Identification and characterization of products were achieved by NMR and GC-MS techniques. The in vitro antifungal activities of all synthesized compounds were evaluated against seven fungi: Candida albicans, Candida parapsilosis, Candida guilliermondii, Cryptococcus laurentii, Geotrichum sp, Trichosporon asahii and Rhodotorula sp. The results are expressed as the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Fungicidal Concentration (MFC) and the best results were found against the Rhodotorula sp yeast. Two thiazolidinones (4h and 4l), MIC and MFC (16.5 μg/mL) proved to be 1.6 times more active than fluconazole and four of them (4b, 4e, 4g and 4k (MIC and MFC 25 μg/mL)) showed similar activity of standard drug to Rhodotorula sp. In addition, the cytotoxicity of thiazolidinones 4a-p was evaluated on cultured Vero cells and most of them displayed low toxicity (above 98 μg/mL). Several biological and clinical studies have suggested that conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) prevents body fat accumulation and increases lean body mass. CLA is available as a concentrated dietary supplement and is purported to provide the aforementioned benefits for people who perform physical activity. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of a CLA-supplemented diet combined with physical activity on the body composition of Wistar rats. Two groups of Wistar rats of both sexes, between 45 and 60 days old, were fed a diet containing 5.5% soybean oil (control group) or a CLA-supplemented diet (0.5% CLA and 5.0% soybean oil) (test group). Half the rats in both groups were assigned to exercise by running on a treadmill. The biochemical and anatomical body compositions were analyzed. In both groups, CLA had no effect on the dietary consumption or the weight of the liver, heart, and lungs. However, it did influence the overall weight gain of exercised male rats and the chemical and anatomical body composition in exercised and sedentary rats of both sexes. The results confirm that a CLA-supplemented diet with and without physical activity reduced body fat accumulation in rats of both sexes. However, there is no evidence of an increase in the lean body mass of the exercised rats.
