Objective: to understand the way in which Family Health Strategy professionals conceptualize and approach families, and the difficulties and facilities arising from this work process. Method: a descriptive-exploratory, qualitative study. Data collected through interviews and submitted to content analysis, thematic modality. Results: two categories revealed that the conception of family is centered on affective relationships, with the bond being a factor that facilitates assistance, while the lack of professional preparation for a welcoming and inclusive approach to families that deviate from the heteronormative standard is an obstacle in daily services. Conclusion: the concept of family is predominantly based on affection, with traditional ways of conception and action persisting within it. Professionals have difficulty dealing with non-heteronormative families and those who do not take coresponsibility during the therapeutic process. The bond between professionals and families is crucial to overcoming the difficulties and weaknesses of the care process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: to understand the experiences of family caregivers of the older people in relation to care. Method: a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, conducted in a city in southern Brazil with 14 family caregivers of dependent older people. The interviews carried out between October and November 2022 were audio recorded, fully transcribed and submitted to Content Analysis, a thematic modality. Results: Family members take care unexpectedly. Although it is little shared, the family, especially in the early days, reorganizes to support the older adult. With the continued experience of home care, family members perceive the burden, however, they are able to (re)signify their role and demonstrate that the experience is a source of learning and retribution. Conclusion: Health professionals should be attentive to the way in which the process of caring for the older people is established in the lives of family members and develop interventions that support them, reduce overload and expand their strengths. Objective: to examine the repercussions of the pandemic on the family system by focusing on the perspective of family members who contracted and experienced COVID-19. Method: an exploratory study with a qualitative approach conducted with 27 individuals who had COVID-19. Data collection took place through telephone interviews that were audio-recorded and guided by a semi-structured instrument. Data analysis was based on an inductive process supported by Reflexive Thematic Analysis. Results: the pandemic and illness of a family member acted as driving forces generating new and intense movements in the family system. Initially, they noticed negative repercussions such as concerns, fear, anguish, stress, distancing and social isolation. As time progressed and by using technologies to ease communication, they began to perceive positive repercussions such as increased proximity, strengthening of ties, development of new roles and care. The families also identified recovery of a balanced position, with return of certain readjustment in family dynamics and functioning. Conclusion: health professionals need to recognize that the COVID-19 disease has imposed repercussions on family systems, proposing interventions that help families face this moment and more easily recover a balanced position for their functioning. Aim: To determine the professional profile and the work conditions of nurses working in intensive care units (ICU) in Colombia, Argentina, Peru and Brazil. Background: ICUs require a differentiated professional profile to provide quality care, and appropriate working conditions, leading to a transformation of care and management practices. Design: Descriptive multicentre cross‐sectional observational study. Methods: An online survey was applied to identify both the characteristics of the professional profile and the working conditions. 1,427 ICU nursing professionals were included. RStudio statistical software was used for the analysis of the information. Descriptive statistics were used for the presentation of the results. The STROBE checklist for cross‐sectional studies was used in this study. Results: Only 33.6% of the professionals had a specialisation degree in intensive care. The skills that were most frequently put into practice were communication (68.5%) and care management (78.5%). The most predominant nurse‐to‐patient ratios were 1:2, and greater than 1:6. 59.1% of the nurses had an indefinite term contract, 38.8% worked 48 hours per week and 49.8% had rotating shifts. Only 50.4% of them received incentives. The average salary ranged between 348 and 1,500 USD. 64.5% of the participants were satisfied with their job. Conclusion: It is necessary to strengthen nurses' professional profile by promoting both postgraduate education and the development of troubleshooting and teamwork skills. It is necessary to standardise the nurse‐to‐patient ratio, improve wages and increase incentives to achieve greater job satisfaction. Relevance to practice: The knowledge and the improvement of both the professional profile and the work conditions of nurses working in intensive care units will improve the quality of the care given to critical patients and, therefore, the quality of health outcomes. Background: Since the 2000s, there has been a plan in Brazil for the reorganization of care for Arterial Hypertension. However, there are still few studies that identify and classify its degree of implementation. Objective: To assess the degree of implementation of the Assistance Program for People with Hypertension. Method: This is evaluative research carried out in the Family Health Strategy in the city of Maringá-Paraná, between April and June 2013, with nurses from 63 teams. The instrument used evaluated the structural dimensions, care practice, and organization of care, with a maximum score of 337 points. Tertiles were adopted as criteria for classification: incipient (1st tertile), intermediate (2nd tertile), and advanced (3rd tertile). Results: The scores obtained ranged from 146.3 to 255.4 points. The Program was classified as advanced in four teams (6.3%) and intermediate in others (93.7%). In the structural dimension, all teams were advanced; in care practice, 16 teams were incipient, 43 intermediate, and four advanced; in the organization of care, four teams were incipient, 58 intermediate, and one advanced. Conclusion: There are weaknesses in the implementation of the Program concerning the organization and care provided to patients, requiring professional training and action based on public policies and protocols. Objective: to describe experiences of nurses and doctors of Emergency Care Units in coping with the Covid-19 pandemic. Method: descriptive-exploratory study with a qualitative approach, conducted with seven doctors and seven nurses working in two Emergency Care Units, reference for Covid-19. The interviews took place between September and November 2020 and were guided by a semi-structured questionnaire. The statements were recorded, transcribed and submitted to Content Analysis. Results: two categories of analysis emerged: "We feel exhausted": the experience of nurses and doctors and Strategies to face the mishaps in the pandemic context. Final considerations: the professionals experienced several challenges, such as lack of institutional protocol, lack of physical structure, material, human resources and training, difficulty in sensitizing the population and concern to contaminate oneself and the family. However, they relied on different strategies, such as preventive self-isolation, family support, exchange of experiences with other professionals and keeping up to date on the disease. Objective: to understand the family perception on the experience of emergency care to one of its members. Method: descriptive study of qualitative nature, carried out in three municipalities in Southern Brazil. Data were collected in June 2015 through semi-structured interviews, held in the home of 16 individuals who accompanied their relatives in the emergency unit. The interviews were recorded, transcribed and submitted to thematic Content Analysis. Results: the families revealed intense suffering during the emergency care with the family member. The fast and effective care, the presence of effective communication and the possibility to monitor the assistance were perceived by the family, when present, as care qualifiers and, when absent, as disqualifiers. Conclusion: the family life during the emergency care has been characterized by intense suffering, which is directly influenced by how health professionals receive and meet the patient and his/her family. Objective: To understand the process of illness of an adult person with terminal chronic renal disease in dialysis and his family. Method: Oral Life History operationalized by the Interview in Depth with a young adult with chronic kidney disease. The questions, when made, sought to deepen the reflections and rescue their memories. The ensemble resulting from the complete transcription were transcribed into a literary first-person and subjected to analysis by sensible Reason. Results: Milky Way had been living the illness for six years, lived with his mother and his dog. The relationship of alterity, commitment, respect and concern were established between researchers and researched, allowing a deep understanding of the dimensions that make up the experience of becoming ill, especially the relationship with the family in the search for care. Aim: to understand the perception of families regarding the possibility to accompany emergency care procedures of their beloved one. Method: this is a descriptive study, with a qualitative approach. The sample is composed by 16 accompanying families of people who were treated in emergency rooms of units located in three cities in the South of Brazil. The data was collected in August 2015, through audio recorded interviews, later transcribed, and sent to analysis of content based on the themes. Results: the relatives mentioned they would have liked to accompany their beloved ones during emergency care. They believed that they could have demonstrated support to the patient, and they would have understood better the clinical condition. Yet, the fact they were not present during emergency care demonstrated the presence of feelings, such as sadness, despair, impotence, and feelings of family abandonment. Final considerations: health professionals of emergency rooms need, according to the possibilities present in the units, allow that families are near to their beloved ones during care procedures.
