Objective: to assess if changes in salivary alpha-amylase activity are associated with anxiety and stress among hospital nursing professionals and whether anxiety and stress are associated with sociodemographic, epidemiological, and occupational factors. Method: cross-sectional, quantitative study, carried out with 210 nursing professionals from a hospital. For data collection, we used a questionnaire to characterize workers, Beck's Anxiety Inventory, Lipp's Stress Symptoms Inventory for Adults and samples and saliva samples collected in work shifts. The data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially using the software Statistical Package for the Social Science and GraphPad Prism. Results: most professionals experienced stress and anxiety. The variables age group, number of children, use of medication and workload were associated with anxiety; age group, smoking and medication use were associated with stress. An increase in the salivary alpha-amylase activity was observed in the middle of the work shift. Professionals who had stress and anxiety had significant changes in alpha-amylase in the night shift. Conclusion: changes in salivary alpha-amylase were associated with anxiety and stress among nursing professionals, indicating that this enzyme can be a possible biomarker of anxiety and stress in workers. Current paper characterizes deaths by accidents with motorcycles and analyzes mortality trends by time series retrieved from data on deaths of motorcycles drivers in traffic accidents in the state of Goiás, Brazil, between 2000 and 2015, provided by the Mortality Information System. Social and demographic variables, data on number of motorcycles and yearly annual death rates were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics. There was a 152.27% increase in mortality rates of motorcycles drivers per 100,000 inhabitants during the period, with 3.09 going to 8.30 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants; in the case of females, increase reached 268.84%. However, young men die more frequently in motorcycle accidents in Goiás, with 88.09% of deaths (n=5.417). Further, death rate increased between 2000 and 2015 and death rates increased per motorcycle accident, characterizing the event as an issue of public health which fails in effective measures to reduce harm to the community. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the trend of hospitalizations due to primary care sensitive conditions and its relationship with the Family Health Strategy coverage. METHODS: Ecological study of time series using the records from the Hospital Information System, from 2005 to 2015, with data for the state of Goiás, Brazil. Trend analyses were performed by the generalized linear regression method of Prais-Winsten with robust variance, which allowed to verify if the trend of hospitalizations due to primary care sensitive conditions was stationary (p > 0.05), declining (p < 0.05 and negative regression coefficient), or ascending (p < 0.05 and positive regression coefficient) in each region of Goiás and for each diagnosis group, stratified by sex. Pearson correlation was used to verify the degree of association between the Family Health Strategy coverage and the rate of hospitalizations due to primary care sensitive conditions. RESULTS: Hospitalizations due to primary care sensitive conditions accounted for 1,092,070 (30.0%) of hospitalizations in Goiás. The average hospitalizations rate due to primary care sensitive conditions was statically less than the rate for other conditions in the analyzed period (167.6% against 386.2%; t = -13.18; p < 0.001). There has been a downward trend in hospitalizations trend due to primary care sensitive conditions in Goiás and in most health regions. The trends varied between sexes in the groups of causes. We observed a negative correlation between the Family Health Strategy coverage and the hospitalizations trend due to primary care sensitive conditions in the state and also in most health regions. CONCLUSIONS: Hospitalizations due to primary care sensitive conditions had a significant reduction trend over the analyzed period. Despite this progressive decrease, this rate remains high and the reduction trend was not linear for all causes. These results allow for directing public policies, while drawing a general overview of hospitalizations due to primary care sensitive conditions by sex and region in the state. Objective: to analyze the relation between the workload and the physiological stress reactions among nurses working at a hospital service. Methods: cross-sectional, correlational, quantitative study, involving 95 nurses, in 2011 and 2012. Spearman's bivariate Correlation Test was used. Results: most subjects are female, between 23 and 61 years old and working between 21 and 78 hours per week. The most frequent physiological reactions were back pain, fatigue/ exhaustion, stiff neck and stomach acidity, with 46.3% of the subjects presenting low and 42.1% moderate physiological stress responses. No correlation was found between the workload and the physiological stress responses. Conclusion: although most of the nurses work more than 36 hours/week, physiologically, they do not present high reaction levels in response to stress. These workers deal with conflicts in the vertical and horizontal relations between professionals, family members and patients. In that sense, taking care of professionals who offer health services can be a fundamental strategy, as good user care mainly depends on healthy teams. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objetive: to identify the perception of employees of a hospital about the culture of health and safety at work. Method: observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative study carried out in a medium-size hospital in the interior of Goiás. The instrument of collection was the Organizational Safety Climate Inventory. The collection occurred in the first half of 2016. The analysis was done through the SPSS program 20.0. Results: 118 employees participated in the study, with an average of 2.93 years. Predominantly of the feminine gender and with average age of 35 years. A general average of 2.92 hours of training was identified. Regarding the dimensions of the instrument, the nursing team presented a satisfactory score in the items Safety Climate, Safety as organizational value and Personal Involvement with Safety, while, in those same dimensions, the support team was characterized as indifferent. In the Organizational Practices dimension, the Nursing Team was indifferent while the Support Team was dissatisfied. Conclusion: there was a difference the involvement perception of health and safety culture at work. Therefore, the need for adequate and uniform training for the categories that make up the workforce is evident. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The outsourcing of work activities has caused new and precarious working conditions, impacting the health and safety of workers, resulting in an increase in disease and accidents given the vulnerability established in the contemporary labor market., Objectives: To identify the occurrence of risk of disease resulting from work, among outsourced workers., Methods: Quantitative, observational, analytical and cross-sectional study, with application of the Inventário de Trabalho e Riscos de Adoecimento in 187 workers of a company that supplies and manages human resources for third parties, under contract with a Federal University, located in the state of Minas Gerais., Results: The Inventário de Trabalho e Riscos de Adoecimento obtained the following averages for the following factors: work organization, 2.9 (standard deviation = 0.6) (critical); working conditions, 2.4 (standard deviation = 0.7) (critical); physical cost, 3.9 (standard deviation = 0.6) (severe); physical damage, 2.1 (standard deviation = 1.3) (critical)., Conclusions: The participating workers showed a good perception associated with the Inventory of Inventário de Trabalho e Riscos de Adoecimento factors, resulting in diagnoses with the presence of risks of disease and accidents resulting from work., Competing Interests: Conflicts of interest: None

Objective: To investigate the relation between workplace accidents and the levels of carboxyhemoglobin found in motorcycle taxi drivers., Method: Correlational, quantitative study involving 111 workers and data obtained in July 2012 through a questionnaire to characterize the participants and blood collection to measure carboxyhemoglobin levels., Result: 28.8% had suffered workplace accidents; 27.6% had fractured the lower limbs and significant symptoms of carbon monoxide exposure were verified in smokers. The carboxyhemoglobin levels were higher among smokers and victims of workplace accidents., Conclusion: Motorcycle taxi drivers had increased levels of carboxyhemoglobin, possibly due to the exposure to carbon monoxide; these levels are also increased among smokers and victims of workplace accidents. The study provides advances in the knowledge about occupational health and environmental science, and also shows that carboxyhemoglobin can be an indicator of exposure to environmental pollutants for those working outdoors, which can be related to workplace accidents.
