5. Formation of Copper oxide II in polymer solution-blow-spun fibers and the successful non-woven ceramic production

Abstract

Copper oxide II is a p-type semiconductor that can be used in several applications. Focusing on producing such material using an easy and low-cost technique, we followed an acetate one-pot-like route for producing a polymer precursor solution with different acetates:PVP (polyvinylpyrrolidone) weight ratios. Then, composite nanofibers were produced using the solution blow spinning (SBS) technique. The ceramic CuO samples were obtained after a calcination process at 600 oC for two hours, applying a heating rate of 0.5 oC/min. Non-woven fabric-like ceramic samples with average diameters lower than 300 nm were successfully obtained. SEM images show relatively smooth fibers with a granular morphology. XRD shows the formation of randomly oriented grains of CuO. In addition, FTIR and XRD analyses show the CuO formation before the heat treatment. Thus, a chemical reaction sequence was proposed to explain the results., Comment: 15 pages, 9 figures, 2 tables

Abstract

The growth and popularization of platforms on scientific production have been the subject of several studies, producing relevant analyses of coauthorship behavior among groups of researchers. Researchers and their scientific productions can be analyzed as coauthorship social networks, so researchers are linked through common publications. In this context, coauthoring networks can be analyzed to find patterns that can describe or characterize them. This work presents the analysis and characterization of co-authorship networks of academic Brazilian graduate programs in computer science. To this end, data from the curricula of Brazilian researchers were collected and modeled as coauthoring networks among the graduate programs that researchers participate in. Each network topology was analyzed regarding complex network measurements and three qualitative indices that evaluate the publications quality. In addition, the coauthorship networks of the graduate programs were characterized in relation to the evaluation received by CAPES, which attributes a qualitative grade to the graduate programs in Brazil. The results indicate some of the most relevant topological measures for the programs characterization and evaluate at different qualitative rates and indicate a pattern of the graduate programs best evaluated by CAPES., Comment: 17 pages, 8 figures, 2 tables

Abstract

In this paper we present a general method for generation of uniformly continuous groups on abstract Fr\'{e}chet spaces (without appealing to spectral theory) and apply it to a such space of distributions, namely ${\mathscr F}L^{2}_{loc}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$, so that the linear evolution problem \begin{equation*} \left\{\begin{array}{l} u_{t} = a(D)u, t \in \mathbb{R} \\ u(0) = u_0 \end{array} \right. \end{equation*}always has a unique solution in such a space, for every pseudodifferential operator $a(D)$ with constant coefficients. We also provide necessary and sufficient conditions so that the spaces $L^{2}$ and ${\mathscr E}'$ are left invariant by this group; and we conclude that the solution of the heat equation on ${\mathscr F}L^{2}_{loc}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ for all $t \in \mathbb{R}$ extends the standard solution on Hilbert spaces for $t \geqslant 0$.

Abstract

Dispersal is more intense in the ocean than on land because most marine taxa present planktonic life stages that are transported by currents even without specific morphological traits. Thus, species dispersal shapes the distribution of biodiversity along seascapes and drives the composition of biodiversity assemblages. To identify marine assembling zones which characterise spatial areas particularly prone to receive and retain similar animal assemblages from the regional pool of species through passive dispersal, we propose a community‐based approach grounded on Lagrangian simulations of plankton dispersal. This novel approach was applied to communities (coast, outer shelf, slope, seamounts and islands; 0–80 m depth) of the Tropical Southwestern Atlantic and used to assess connectivity pathways. For that, we classified the modelled particles in 15 categories according to biological traits (planktonic life duration and spawning habitat) of representative planktonic communities. From the hierarchical clustering of the multivariate matrix containing the amount of arriving particles from each category in each cell we defined 14 assembling zones. Results highlighted that the assembling zones were mostly shaped by the degree of exposure to currents and the presence of mesoscale features (eddies, recirculation) derived from the interaction between these currents and coastlines. The boundaries, dispersal and connectivity patterns of these zones consistently align with local and regional in situ spatial distribution and abundance patterns of organisms, and provide an appropriate basis for the formulation of ecological hypotheses in the metacommunity framework to be tested in situ, such as the balance between species sorting and mass effect assembling archetypes. Abstract

Because of the attractiveness of the canonical polyadic (CP) tensor decomposition in various applications, several algorithms have been designed to compute it, but efficient ones are still lacking. Iterative deflation algorithms based on successive rank-1 approximations can be used to perform this task, since the latter are rather easy to compute. We first present an algebraic rank-1 approximation method that performs better than the standard higher-order singular value decomposition (HOSVD) for three-way tensors. Second, we propose a new iterative rank-1 approximation algorithm that improves any other rank-1 approximation method. Third, we describe a probabilistic framework allowing to study the convergence of deflation CP decomposition (DCPD) algorithms based on successive rank-1 approximations. A set of computer experiments then validates theoretical results and demonstrates the efficiency of DCPD algorithms compared to other ones.
