Objective: To investigate the impact of psychosocial aspects on the quality of life of teachers from municipal schools in Natal, Brazil. Method: descriptive study with a cross-sectional design and a sample of 242 elementary school teachers. We used the WHOQOL-bref to assess the quality of life as well as questions about the level of control and the psychological demand of work from the Job Content Questionnaire. Results: the overall evaluation of quality of life showed that the physical and environmental domains had the lowest mean scores. According to the psychosocial aspects, most of the subjects (67 individuals = 32.1%) were characterized as having active work (high demand and control), followed by 54 teachers (25.8%) with demanding work (high demand and little control). These two groups have shown to be more affected in the assessment of physical (p < 0.001), psychological (p < 0.001), and environment (p < 0.001) domains of quality of life. Conclusions: Teachers who had tasks characterized as active and demanding were more affected in the quality of life domain. This finding suggests the need for greater investment in health-promotion policies among teachers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The objective of this study was to have a multidisciplinary team investigate the neurological state and cognitive performance of patients after a stroke, through a cross-sectional study with 45 patients in rehabilitation after having an acute stroke. The data collection instruments used were an assessment sheet, the Mini Mental-MEEM, and the National International Health Stroke Scale-NIHSS. The sample consisted mostly of women (55.6%), Ischemic Stroke (86.7%), right hemisphere of the brain (60%) and Educated (68.8%). The mean MEEM for educated and illiterate patients was 19.3 ± 5.0 and 15.92 ± 3.7, respectively. The overall mean of the neurological state was 13.0±4.8. A significant difference was found between the cognitive means of patients in terms of education (p value=0.017), and there was a significant relationship between the neurological state and cognitive performance (r=-0.44 p value=0.002). It appears to be a direct relationship between the neurological state and cognition performance of patients after an acute stroke, which evinces the need for greater attention to the cognitive issue involved early in rehabilitation.

- Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the impact of osteomuscular symptoms on the quality of life of public school teachers in Natal, Brazil. This is a descriptive-analytical study with a cross-sectional design, comprising a sample of 242 teachers. The WHOQOL-brief was used to assess quality of life and the Nordic questionnaire for osteomuscular symptoms. Descriptive statistical procedures and Mann-Whitney test were used in data analysis, with the significance level set at 5%. The prevalence of the aforementioned symptoms among the subjects investigated was 63.2%, considering the seven days before data collection. All quality of life domains were compromised in the group of teachers who presented osteomuscular symptoms, when compared to the asymptomatic group. The physical, psychological, social and environmental domains all had p-values smaller than 0.001. Thus, the presence of osteomuscular symptoms showed a strong statistical correlation with lower quality of life of teachers from the basic education system of Natal, Brazil.

- Abstract
This article investigates the severity and functional independence of hemiplegics patients' post-acute stroke by means of a multidisciplinary clinical staff. It is a descriptive study composed by 40 hemiplegics attended at the four largest physiotherapy public services in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte State. The methods used were an evaluation form, Functional Independence Measure and NIHSS. The results showed a sample predominantly female (55%), stroke ischemic (90%), right brain hemisphere (52.5%) and Hypertension Risk Factor (90%). The mean of clinical severity and functional independence was 13.32±4.7 and 54.6±17.15 respectively. There was no significant difference between the mean of functionality about stroke side (pvalue = 0.66). There is a significant relation between clinical severity and functional independence (r = -0.45 pvalue=0.003). It can be concluded that the level of clinical severity and functional dependence of stroke patients that make use of public physiotherapy services is significant and show the necessity, beyond the classic treatment, to be encouraged preventive educational actions to improve knowledge of this population.

- Abstract
Descriptive study that proposed to compare the qualitative and quantitative behavior of the pain in lateral posterior thoracotomy patients. The sample was consisted of 18 individuals with an average age of 44 years. The instruments used were physiotherapy evaluation form, numerical pain scale and McGill questionnaire for pain. The pain on the numerical pain scale was considered moderate(5) for both sexes. The descriptors of the McGill questionnaire choosen by the patients with higher frequency were: in the sensorial component, beat4, pointed1, shock2, final and pull2; in the afetive component, tired1, bored1, punishald1 and miserable1 and in the evaluative component was flat. The characteristics of pain in the sensorial group were more evidents on male group. No significant statistical difeferences were observed between quantitative answers concerning pain between the men and women. On the qualitative aspects , was observed an predominancy of the same descriptors of pain in afetive component for both sexes. Pain intensity was categorized as moderate. No significant statistical difference were observed between the pain on the post-operatory lateral posterior thoracotomy. These data demonstrate a necessity for an analysis with a larger study group.

Purpose: To analyze the pain intensity and characteristics of patients in posterior-lateral thoracotomy (PLT) and esternotomy (EST)., Methods: The sample was composed by 40 individuals submitted to PLT and EST, 12 males and 08 females for each surgical proceeding with average of 47 years old. The instruments used were physiotherapeutic evaluation forms, pain numerical scale and McGill questionnaire pain. The proceeding have consisted on apply of the instruments., Results: The pain intensity of numerical scale has ranged from 2 to 10 with average of 5.1 for male and 5.7 for female. The descriptors of the McGill questionnaire selected with higher frequency were: pointed e thin (sensorial group), tired, sickening, punishment e miserable (affective group) and e tidy, cold e bored (miscellany group). The average of the number and the plus of the descriptors were compared between males patients submitted to PLT and EST, these values haven't showed statistical significance. The same results also were found between females patients., Conclusion: There weren't statistical significance of pain quantitative answers when compared the patients submitted to PLT and EST. About the qualitative aspects, it was observed at McGill questionnaire a predominance the same descriptors of the affective group for both sexes.
