The Covid-19 pandemic has brought many transformations and adjustments to our daily activities, including the learning process. Counseling guidance service is a supporting element in the learning process. Teenagers, especially students during the Covid-19 pandemic, face many psychological problems, which result in the need for assistance to help alleviate their problems. One of the forms of assistance is by providing guidance and counseling services. This study aims to understand and identify the management of guidance and counseling services based on cybercounseling in the new normal. The research applies a descriptive method with a qualitative approach, and the type of research is library research. The technique for collecting data is to study various reference sources or literature studies related to cybercounseling. The study results stated that the management process for guidance and counseling services based on cybercounseling was the same as the face-to-face counseling process, only that it was necessary to pay attention to the preparation of the equipment used. The advantage of this service is that it can be accessed anywhere and anytime based on mutual agreement. In comparison, the weakness is that students who have never attended counseling before have difficulties developing and predicting appropriate intervention techniques.

With the rapid development of Information Communication Technology, cybercounseling has become a more feasible modality to receive psychological support. However, very limited research has explored the intention to use cybercounseling. This study aimed to use an extended theory of planned behavior (E-TPB) model to predict the intention to use cybercounseling among Chinese adolescents. The moderation effect of gender in the constructs of the E-TPB model was also investigated. A total of 1,216 Chinese adolescents (602 males, mean age = 14.21, standard deviation = 1.28) completed the self-report questionnaire. Structural equation modeling and multigroup analyses were performed using AMOS 20.0. The overall E-TPB model explained 29.8 percent of the variance in the intention to use cybercounseling. Subjective norm (SN) was the strongest predictor of the intention to use cybercounseling, followed by perceived behavioral control (PBC) and attitude (ATT). Moreover, two additional variables (i.e., attitude toward Internet and computer self-efficacy) significantly predicted the ATT and PBC, respectively. Furthermore, gender was found to significantly moderate the E-TPB model. Unexpectedly, social stigma toward seeking psychological help did not show a significant effect on SN. This study showed that the E-TPB is an efficient model to explain the intention to use cybercounseling and suggested the influence of social factor (i.e., SN) on the intention to use cybercounseling among Chinese adolescents. These results would be beneficial for understanding and promoting the cybercounseling application. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
LGBTQ youth are a population who experience unique stressors. This study investigated their experiences with the COVID-19 pandemic via Q Chat Space—a national online chat-based support program. Transcript data from 31 synchronous, text-based chats collected during the onset of state-based "social distancing" ordinances in Spring 2020 were analyzed. While encountering COVID-19–related stressors likely to be experienced by youth generally, participants' experiences were concomitantly imbued with LGBTQ-specific intrapersonal, interpersonal, and structural challenges. Difficulties included maintaining mental health, being isolated with unsupportive families, and loss of in-person identity-based socialization and support. Findings highlight the importance of synchronous, text-based online platforms to enable LGBTQ youth to feel safe to seek support while at home. Given the potential for long-term physical distancing, concerted efforts are required to provide necessary resources and support for LGBTQ youth during the COVID-19 pandemic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The development of a university-based cybercounseling certificate program through the continuing education department of a graduate faculty of social work is described. This web-based program consists of two levels: introductory and advanced, and offers experienced face-to-face counselors training in an asynchronous, e-mail form of cybercounseling. Ethical issues such as cross-jurisdictional concerns, client appropriateness, and counselor insurance are discussed. A system developed to provide online e-mail security through web-based access and encryption is highlighted. Several techniques for e-mail counseling such as presence, and spacing and pacing are discussed and illustrated. Demographics of learners and feed jack from graduates are presented and lessons learned are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article explores the inevitable phenomenon of online therapy provided by professional counselors. Advantages of Internet counseling are examined from clients' and counselors' perspectives. Disadvantages are discussed, particularly in the area of asynchronous communication without the benefit of nonverbal cues. The possibility of providing marriage and family counseling via the Internet is considered. Through perusal and extrapolation of the current literature available on Internet counseling, this article speculates on the potential usefulness of this venue in the 21st century and the need for more research. With our ever-changing society there seems to be more pressures on young people. Recent epidemiological studies in Australia have found that adolescent mental health is an important public health problem (Sawyer et al., 2001). As many as one in five Australian children aged from 4 to 17 have significant mental health concerns (Zubrick, Silburn, Burton, & Blair, 2000). However, only one in four young people receive professional help (Sawyer, et al., 2001). Schools in Australia provide school counselors to assist students, yet many young people do not avail themselves of this service. However, young people do seek help from telephone help-lines (in 2002 almost 1.1 million phone calls were made to Kids Help Line) and from the Internet (Kids Help Line, 2003a). Perhaps more anonymous forms of counseling, such as cybercounseling, could deliver a more effective service within a school setting. The difficulties and benefits of school based webcounseling are discussed in terms of therapeutic, ethical and legal issues, as well as technical problems and recent research outcomes. Student affairs professionals are neglected clientele to whom community college librarians need to extend their services. Counselors and librarians share mutual values and experiences in their roles as learning facilitators. Although disinclined to embrace technology, most counselors now recognize its import and are receptive to integrating it into the workplace to become more effective. Inclusion of student personnel in library/learning resources services acknowledges the unique contributions of both professional groups as full partners in creating a successful learning environment.
