The objective of this study was to evaluate the replacement of a growth-promoting antibiotic by fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) and citronella (Cymbopogon winterianus) essential oils in the quail diet on performance variables (weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion), as well as the carcass and cut yield. To do so, 240 one-day-old male and female European quails were distributed in a completely randomized design with four treatments, five replications and 12 animals per experimental unit. The treatments consisted of: PC – positive control diet without fennel or citronella essential oils and with the growth promoter (zinc bacitracin); NC – negative control diet without essential oils and without growth promoter; CEO - Diet with +0.078% citronella essential oil without the growth promoter; and FEO - Diet with +0.078% fennel essential oil without the growth promoter. The experiment lasted 42 days, in which the performance variables were analyzed in three periods (1-14 days; 14-21 days; and 22-42 days) and the carcass and cut yield in two periods (at 21 and 42 days). The Costa Rican coturniculture sector is yet in development. Production, economic or marketing aspects associated with the activity have not been previously documented in the existing literature. The objective of this study is to generate information about marketing and consumption patterns of quail eggs in Costa Rica. The investigation took place between January and December 2019 in the Greater Costa Rican Metropolitan Area. Survey was applied to 14 producers evaluating the commercial environment, while the consumption patterns of quail egg were evaluated in a sample of 300 people. Most of the producers (10) are dedicated to the exclusive production of eggs mostly in farms that do not exceed 200 birds (11), mainly housed in artisanal cages (10), where the use of production records has not been implemented (11). They essentially use poultry feed (13) without distinction of the productive stage of the bird (11), without reproductive management in six of the cases, or using consanguineous crosses (5). The egg is sold mainly in packages of 24 units ($2.42 each package) and canned 200 g ($2.5). In terms of purchase, most consumers expressed that they don´t purchase quail eggs (74%), with sporadic consumption even among those who do obtain it (51.4% once a month). When purchased, the preferred presentation the fresh packaged egg (46.8%) and is prepared mainly as hardboiled egg (66.2%). The production and consumption of quail eggs in Costa Rica is low-tech and low diversified, which is consistent with a profile of small producers and low consumption patterns. El sector coturnicultor costarricense está en proceso de desarrollo; aún no se han documentado en la literatura aspectos productivos, económicos, de mercado o comercialización asociados al mismo. El objetivo de este trabajo es generar información sobre la comercialización y el consumo del huevo de codorniz en Costa Rica. La investigación tuvo lugar entre enero y diciembre del 2019 en la Gran Área Metropolitana costarricense. Se realizaron consultas a 14 productores con respecto al entorno comercial, a la vez que se evaluaron las pautas de consumo de huevo de codorniz en una muestra de 300 personas. La mayoría de los productores (10) se dedican a la producción exclusiva de huevo en sistemas productivos que mayoritariamente no superan las 200 aves (11), principalmente alojadas en jaulas artesanales (10), y donde el uso de registros productivos no se ha implementado (11). Se emplea esencialmente alimento para gallinas de producción(13), sin distinción de la etapa productiva del ave (11), sin un manejo reproductivo en seis de los casos o bien empleando cruces consanguíneos (5). El huevo se comercializa principalmente en empaques de 24 huevos ($2,42 por empaque) y en conservas de 200 g ($2,5). En términos de compra, la mayoría de los consumidores expresó no adquirir el huevo de codorniz (74%), siendo el consumo esporádico aún entre quienes si lo obtienen (51,4% una vez al mes). La presentación preferida de compra es el huevo fresco empacado (46,8%),que es preparado principalmente como huevo duro hervido (66,2%). La producción y consumo de huevo de codorniz en Costa Rica se encuentra poco tecnificada y diversificada lo cual concuerda con un perfil de productores pequeños y un bajo consumo.

This study presents an overview of the production of quail eggs in the state of Pará, based on an analysis of production in the period 2000-2019 using secondary data from the time series of egg production and the number of quail heads / beaks obtained with the IBGE Database. The Locational Quotient (LQ) indexes that indicate the specialization of a region in a given activity or sector and the Locational Gini Coefficient (LGC) that identifies the spatial concentration were estimated. The results of the study show that in the period analyzed, the Metropolitan Mesoregion of Belém lost its participatory power in Pará production, placing the Southeast and Southwest Paraense mesoregions with the highest concentration of production in the state. The municipalities of Altamira, Paragominas and Santarém present themselves as the largest producers of quail eggs in the state of Pará. Despite this, the production of quail eggs in Pará, in recent years, has been declining and reducing the specialized micro-regions, high spatial concentration. Este estudio presenta un panorama de la producción de huevos de codorniz en el estado de Pará, basado en un análisis de la producción en el período 2000-2019 utilizando datos secundarios de la serie temporal de producción de huevos y el número de cabezas / picos de codorniz obtenidos. con la Base de Datos IBGE. Se estimaron los índices de Cociente de Ubicación (CU) que indican la especialización de una región en una determinada actividad o sector y el Coeficiente de Gini de Ubicación (CGU) que identifica la concentración espacial. Los resultados del estudio muestran que en el período analizado, la Mesorregión Metropolitana de Belém perdió su poder de participación en la producción de Pará, colocando a las mesorregiones Paraense Sudeste y Sudoeste con la mayor concentración de producción en el estado. Los municipios de Altamira, Paragominas y Santarém se presentan como los mayores productores de huevos de codorniz en el estado de Pará. A pesar de ello, la producción de huevos de codorniz en Pará, en los últimos años, ha ido disminuyendo y reduciendo las microrregiones especializadas, alta concentración espacial. Neste estudo apresenta-se uma conjuntura da produção de ovos de codorna no estado do Pará, a partir de uma análise do período de 2000-2019, utilizando dados secundários de série temporal de produção de ovos e quantitativo de cabeças de codornas, obtidos junto ao Banco de Dados do IBGE. Foram estimados o Quociente Locacional (QL) que indica a especialização de uma região em uma determinada atividade ou setor e o Coeficiente de Gini Locacional (CGL) que identifica a concentração espacial. Os resultados do estudo mostram que no período analisado a mesorregião Metropolitana de Belém perdeu força participativa na produção paraense colocando as mesorregiões Sudeste e Sudoeste Paraense com a maior concentração da produção do estado. Os municípios de Altamira, Paragominas e Santarém se apresentam como os maiores produtores de ovos de codorna do estado do Pará. Apesar disso, a produção de ovos de codorna paraense, nos últimos anos, se apresenta em declínio e redução das microrregiões especializadas, observando-se elevada concentração espacial.

The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of in-egg inoculation with sources of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and lauric acid (AL), going by the weight of lymphoid organs and the biochemical profile of the blood of cut quails, from one to 35 days of age. We used 360 quails distributed in a completely randomized design, in six treatments and six replicates of 10 birds per plot. Corn oil (OM) was used to dilute the CLA and AL. The experimental treatments were: healthy eggs (control); eggs inoculated with OM thinner; eggs inoculated with CLA 120 mg / 50 mL OM; eggs inoculated with CLA 240 mg / 50 mL OM; eggs inoculated with AL 60 mg / 50 mL OM and eggs inoculated with AL 90 mg / 50 mL OM. The results were analyzed through Program R at the level of 5% significance. To verify the normal distribution of errors, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test was applied. At 21 days, an effect of p < 0.05 was observed for the total blood cholesterol content, inoculations with CLA reduced, even as AL increased, regardless of the level. At 35 days, it was found (p < 0.05) that the levels of total cholesterol and AST in the blood decreased with inoculations of CLA and AL at the lower levels, compared to those that did not receive the inoculations. The CLA and AL levels supplemented via egg inoculations did not interfere with the weight of the lymphoid organs (thymus, Fabricius bursa) of the birds, at both ages. Supplementation in eggs of cut quails with CLA 240 mg reduced the total blood cholesterol content compared to CLA 120 mg, at 21 days of age. At 35 days of age, higher concentrations of CLA and AL increased the total cholesterol and AST in the blood of birds and AL had a greater effect on the increase than CLA. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos da inoculação in ovo com fontes de ácido linoleico conjugado (CLA) e ácido láurico (AL), sobre os órgãos linfoides e o perfil bioquímico do sangue de codornas de corte de um a 35 dias de idade. Foram utilizadas 360 codornas distribuídas em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em seis tratamentos e seis repetições de 10 aves por parcela. Os tratamentos experimentais foram: ovos íntegros (controle); ovos inoculados com diluidor OM; ovos inoculados com CLA 120 mg/50mL OM; ovos inoculados com CLA 240 mg/50mL OM; ovos inoculados com AL 60 mg/50mL OM e ovos inoculados com AL 90 mg/50mL OM. Aos 21 dias observou-se efeito (P < 0,05) para teor de colesterol total no sangue, as inoculações com CLA reduzem, enquanto o AL aumenta independentemente do nível. Os resultados foram analisados pelo programa R no nível de significância de 5%. Para verificar a distribuição normal dos erros, foi aplicado o teste de normalidade Shapiro-Wilk. Aos 21 dias, observou-se efeito (P < 0,05) para o teor total de colesterol no sangue, inoculações com CLA reduzida, enquanto a AL aumenta independentemente do nível. Aos 35 dias, verificou-se (P < 0,05) que os níveis de colesterol total e AST no sangue diminuíram com as inoculações de CLA e AL em níveis mais baixos, comparados àqueles que não receberam inoculações. Os níveis de CLA e AL suplementados por inoculações de ovos não interferiram no peso dos órgãos linfoides (timo, bursa de Fabricius) de aves em ambas as idades. A suplementação em ovos de codornas de corte com CLA 240 mg reduz o conteúdo total de colesterol no sangue em comparação com o CLA 120 mg aos 21 dias de idade. Aos 35 dias de idade, concentrações mais altas de CLA e AL aumentam o colesterol total e AST no sangue das aves e o AL tem um efeito maior em aumentar o CLA sanguíneo.

Thus, the objective was to determine the metabolizable energy requirement (ME) for European quails (Coturnix coturnix coturnix) in the period from 28 to 42 days of age. For this, 420 quails were distributed in completely randomized design, within five treatments, seven replicates and 12 birds per experimental unit. The treatments consisted of levels of 2,950, 3,000, 3,050, 3,100 and 3,150 Kcal of ME/ kg in the diet. Were evaluated the performance, relative weights of viscera and organs, carcass characteristics, meat quality, body composition and blood parameters of the birds. There were no differences (P>0.05) for the weight and weight gain of the birds. However, the feed intake decreased linearly (P0.05), but viscera and liver relative weight showed quadratic effect (P0.05) by the levels of ME. The objective was to evaluate the inclusion of 5% of the bran of the watermelon peel with and without the inclusion of xylanase and β-glucanase in the feeding of Japanese quails on performance, egg quality, biochemical profile and biometrics. 120 female quails of the species Coturnix coturnix japonica were used. The design was completely randomized in a 2 x 2 factorial scheme, with six replications, containing six birds per cage. The treatments consisted of: T1 - Corn and soybean meal, T2 - T1 + carbohydrates, T3 - T1 + 5% watermelon bran, T4 - T3 + carbohydrates. There was a significant effect (p> 0.05) increasing the feed intake for diets without inclusion of enzyme, the feed conversion per dozen eggs produced improved with the use of enzymes. As egg quality, the use of watermelon skin bran with enzymes increased height, index, color and reduced the pH of the yolk. Albumen was affected in its diameter and pH, while the shell was affected in its thickness in diets with the addition of enzyme. It is concluded that the bran of the watermelon peel can be used at the level of 5% with enzymes, without negatively altering performance, egg quality, biometrics and blood analysis. El objetivo fue evaluar la inclusión del 5% del salvado de la cáscara de sandía con y sin la inclusión de xilanasa y β-glucanasa en la alimentación de codornices japonesas en el rendimiento, la calidad del huevo, el perfil bioquímico y la biometría. Se utilizaron 120 codornices hembras de la especie Coturnix coturnix japonica. El diseño fue completamente al azar en un esquema factorial 2 x 2, con seis repeticiones, que contenía seis aves por jaula. Los tratamientos consistieron en: T1 - Harina de maíz y soya, T2 - T1 + carbohidratos, T3 - T1 + salvado de sandía al 5%, T4 - T3 + carbohidratos. Hubo un efecto significativo (p> 0.05) aumentando la ingesta de alimento para dietas sin inclusión de enzima, la conversión alimenticia por docena de huevos producidos mejoró con el uso de enzimas. Como calidad del huevo, el uso de salvado de cáscara de sandía con enzimas aumentó la altura, el índice, el color y redujo el pH de la yema. El albúmina se vio afectado en su diámetro y pH, mientras que la cáscara se vio afectada en su grosor en las dietas con la adición de enzimas. Se concluye que el salvado de la cáscara de sandía se puede usar al 5% con enzimas, sin alterar negativamente el rendimiento, la calidad del huevo, la biometría y el análisis de sangre. Objetivou-se avaliar a inclusão de 5 % do farelo da casca da melancia com e sem a inclusão de xilanase e β-glucanase na dieta de codornas japonesas sobre o desempenho, qualidade de ovos, perfil bioquímico e biometria. Utilizou-se 120 codornas fêmeas da espécie Coturnix coturnix japonica. O delineamento foi inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 2x2, com seis repetições, contendo seis aves por gaiola. Os tratamentos foram constituídos por: T1 - Milho e farelo de soja, T2 - T1 + carboidrases, T3 - T1 + 5% de farelo da casca da melancia, T4 - T3 + carboidrases. Houve efeito significativo (p> 0,05) aumentando o consumo de ração para dietas sem inclusão de enzima a conversão alimentar por dúzia de ovos produzidos melhorou com a utilização das enzimas. Na qualidade de ovos a utilização do farelo da casca da melancia com enzimas aumentou altura, índice, cor e reduziu o pH da gema. O albúmen foi afetado em seu diâmetro e no seu pH, já a casca foi afetada em sua espessura em dietas com adição de enzima. Conclui-se o farelo da casca da melancia pode ser utilizado ao nível de 5% com enzimas, sem alterar negativamente o desempenho, qualidade de ovos, biometria e nas análises sanguíneas.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of increasing levels of extruded soybean (0, 7.5, 15, 22.5 and 30%) in soybean meal replacement on the diet of Japanese laying quails on biometry of the tibia and femur bones. A total of 180 female quails of the species Coturnix coturnix japonica with approximately 150 days of life standardized by body weight, distributed in galvanized wire measuring 38 cm long × 40 cm wide × 23 cm height were used. The design was completely randomized (CAD), with five treatments and six replicates containing six birds per replicate. The experiment lasted for 84 days, with three cycles of production, with 28 days each cycle. There was no significant effect (p>0.05) of the inclusion of increasing levels of extruded soybean on the biometrics of the tibial and femur bones, nor was there any adverse effect on the Seedor index of these bones, which shows that they remained the same. with good resistance during all production cycles of these birds. It can be concluded that the use of extruded soybean up to 30% does not negatively influence the tibial or femur biometry of Japanese quails or the Seedor index of these bones, which shows that bone strength was not affected by inclusion of this food. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el efecto del aumento de los niveles de soya extruida (0, 7.5, 15, 22.5 y 30%) reemplazando la harina de soya en la dieta de codorniz japonesa en la biometría de hueso tibial. y fémur. Un total de 180 codornices hembra de Coturnix coturnix japonica, de aproximadamente 150 días de edad, uniformadas por el peso corporal, se distribuyeron en jaulas de alambre galvanizado de 38 cm de largo × 40 cm de ancho × 23 cm de alto. El diseño fue completamente al azar (DIC), con cinco tratamientos y seis repeticiones que contenían seis aves por repetición. El experimento duró 84 días y se llevaron a cabo tres ciclos de producción, con 28 días cada ciclo. No hubo un efecto significativo (p>0.05) de la inclusión de niveles crecientes de soya extruida en la biometría de los huesos tibial y fémur, ni hubo ningún efecto adverso en el índice Seedor de estos huesos, lo que demuestra que permanecieron igual. con buena resistencia durante todos los ciclos de producción de estas aves. Conclui-se que a utilização da soja extrusada até o nível de 30% não influencia de forma negativa na biometria das tíbias ou dos fêmures de codornas japonesas e nem no índice de Seedor destes ossos, o que demonstra que a resistência óssea não foi afetada pela inclusão deste alimento.

We aimed to evaluate the effects of shed roof(SR) typeand the inclusion of babassu pie (BP) in rations on the productive characteristics ofmeat quailsfrom days 14 to 28 and days14 to 40. We studied 896 meatquails. The experimental design was completely randomized with a 4x4 factorial arrangement, using four types of shedroofs (fiber cement, ceramic, straw, and painted fiber cement) and four rations (with 0, 5, 10, and 15% inclusion of babassu pie). The performance variables evaluated from 14 to 28 and 14 to 40 days included food intake (FI, g/bird), mean weight gain (WG, g/bird), food conversion (FC, g/g), mean live weight on day 28 (MW28, g/bird), mean live weight on day 40 (MW40, g/bird), and energy efficiency (EF; g Mcal). After slautherthe birds on day 40, we measured the carcass weight (CW) and the carcass yield (CY, %), obtained for the breast (BY), legs (LGY), and wings (WINGY). We also obtained the relative weight of the heart (HRW), liver (LRW), gizzard (GRW), and intestine (IRW). To compare the economic efficiency between the experimental rations, we analyzed the cost of ration per kg of carcass (CC) and determined the gross margin (GM). Between day 14 and day 28, we found that the use of SR influenced the FI28, WG28, and the MW28 of the quails (p < 0.05). BP did not affect FI28 (p > 0.05), but it linearly improved WG28, FC28, MW28, and EF28. Between days 14 and 40, we found that SR influenced the WG40, FC40, MW40, and EF40 of the quails (p < 0.05) and that a BP increased the FI40, WG40, and MW40 in a quadratic manner. SR and BP did not affect the CW, BY, WINGY, LGY, HRW, LRW,or IRW. However, BP influenced MGRW, which increased linearly with the inclusion of BP. We concluded that a ceramic roof provides better environmental conditions than do other shed roofs. The inclusion of BP improved the performance characteristics, and it was technically feasible to include up to 15% BP in the rations of meat quails. Based on the current cost analysis, however, the inclusion of BP is economically unfeasible. Objetivou-se avaliar os efeitos do tipo de cobertura do galpão (TC) e da inclusão da torta de babaçu nas rações (TB), sobre as características produtivas de codornas de corte dos 14 aos 28 e dos 14 aos 40 dias de idade. Foram utilizadas 896 codornas de linhagem de corte. O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado em arranjo fatorial 4x4, sendo quatro tipos de coberturas nos galpões (fibrocimento, cerâmica, palha e fibrocimento pintado) e quatro rações (0, 5, 10 e 15% de inclusão de torta de babaçu). As variáveis de desempenho avaliadas dos 14 aos 28 e dos 14 aos 40 dias foram: consumo de ração (CR; g/ave), ganho de peso médio (GP; g/ave), conversão alimentar (CA; g/g), peso vivo médio aos 28 dias (PM28; g/ave); peso vivo médio aos 40 dias (PM40; g/ave) e eficiência energética (EF; g/Mcal) e após o abate no 40º dia, foi obtido o peso da carcaça (PC) e o rendimento (%) de carcaça (RC) de peito (RP), pernas (RPN) e asas (RASA), bem como os pesos relativos do coração (PRC), fígado (PRF), moela (PRM) e intestino (PRI). Para comparar a eficiência econômica entre as rações experimentais determinou-se o custo com alimentação por kg de carcaça (CC) e a margem bruta (MB). No período de 14 a 28 dias observou-se que o TC influenciou (P < 0,05) o CR28, GP28 e o PM28 das codornas. A TB não afetou (P > 0,05) o CR28, mas melhorou linearmente o GP28, a CA28, o PM28 e a EF28. No período de 14 a 40 dias observou-se que o TC influenciou (P < 0,05) o GP40, a CA40, o PM40 e a EF40 das codornas e a TB aumentou de forma quadrática o CR40, GP40 e o PM40. Não houve efeito de TC e TB no PC, RP, RASA, RPN, PRC, PRF, PRI, entretanto a TB influenciou o PRM, que aumentou linearmente com a inclusão de TB. Concluiu-se que a cobertura de cerâmica proporciona melhores condições ambientais em relação às demais coberturas. A inclusão de TB melhorou as características de desempenho sendo tecnicamente viável a inclusão de até 15% nas rações de codornas de corte. Com base na análise de custo atual, a inclusão de TB é economicamente inviável.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance, body development and carcass quality of European quails submitted to diets with different levels of metabolizable energy, as well as the carcass composition using the ultrasound apparatus. Were used 270 European quail (Coturnix coturnix), mixed lot, in the period from 7 to 49 days of age. The birds were housed in cages and distributed in a completely randomized design within three treatments, five replicates and 18 birds per experimental unit. The experimental treatments consisted of three levels of metabolizable energy Phase I- 7 to 21 days old, contend diets energy levels of 2,700; 2,900 and 3100 Kcal/kg and Phase II – 21 to 49 days old, contend diets 2900; 3050 and 3200 kacl/kg of metabolizable energy. Were evalueted the feed intake, weight gain and feed conversion, as well as organ development and carcass quality using the Tukey test at 5% probability. Three ultrasonographies were also performed at 21; 35 and 49 days old, two readings were performed in the ventral portion of the Pectoralis major muscle: a reading was performed in the transverse position of the muscle and another in the longitudinal position, then the birds were slaughtered for organ quantification and body composition. Quails are homeothermic animals, in other words, they are able to keep body temperature constant even when variations in ambient temperature occur. In countries with a tropical climate, such as Brazil, birds face difficulties in controlling body temperature inside sheds. Thus, in order to minimize the effects of heat stress, nutritional strategies can be used, where partial replacement of carbohydrates by oil, based on the reduction of the caloric increment of the diet through the use of lipids as a source of energy. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different densities and inclusion levels of soybean oil on performance and heat loss in quail. To conduct the experiment, 450 quails, 7 days old, housed in a conventional shed divided in 30 boxes were used. The birds were distributed in a completely randomized design (CRD) in a 3x2 factorial scheme, six treatments with five replicates of 14 (215.6 cm².ave-1) and 16 (188.6 cm².ave-1) quails. Inclusion levels of soybean oil were: 0.2, 4%. Environmental data, temperature and relative air humidity as well as physiological data, rectal and surface temperature were collected for six weeks. The loss of heat by radiation was estimated with the aid of infrared thermography. The concentration of ammonia, pH and humidity were evaluated to characterize the quality of beds at 21 and 42 days in order to estimate its influence on the comfort and performance of the birds. During this same period, the temperature of the bed was measured to observe the variation along the boxes. Based on the results, it was found that soybean oil inclusion levels didn’t affect the performance and yield of quails, as well as didn’t influence the loss of heat during the life cycle of these animals. The housing density influenced the feed intake, where the birds raised at the density of 188.6 cm2.ave-1 obtained the lowest average of diet intake, with no impact on weight gain and feed conversion, allowing the creation with larger numbers of birds per box. As codornas são animais homeotérmicos, ou seja, são capazes de manter a temperatura corporal constante mesmo quando ocorrem variações da temperatura do ambiente. Em países de clima tropical, como o Brasil, as aves enfrentam grandes dificuldades em controlar a temperatura corporal dentro dos galpões. Assim, com o intuito de minimizar os efeitos do estresse térmico, pode-se utilizar estratégias nutricionais, onde se realiza a substituição parcial de carboidratos por óleo baseando-se na redução do incremento calórico da ração por meio do uso dos lipídeos como fonte de energia. Sendo assim, o objetivo desse estudo foi avaliar o efeito de diferentes densidades e níveis de inclusão de óleo de soja no desempenho e perda de calor em codornas de corte. Para a condução do experimento foram utilizadas 450 codornas, com 7 dias de idade, alojadas em galpão convencional dividido em 30 boxes. As aves foram distribuídas em delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado (DIC) em esquema fatorial 3x2, sendo seis tratamentos com cinco repetições de 14 (215,6 cm².ave-1) e 16 (188,6 cm².ave-1) codornas. Os níveis de inclusão do óleo de soja foram: 0, 2, 4%. Os dados ambientais, temperatura e umidade relativa do ar assim como os dados fisiológicos, temperatura retal e superficial, foram coletados durante seis semanas. Foi estimada a perda de calor por radiação com o auxílio da termografia de infravermelho. Foi avaliada a concentração de amônia, pH e umidade para caracterizar a qualidade da cama com 21 e 42 dias com o intuito de estimar sua influência no conforto e desempenho das aves. Nesse mesmo período, foi medida a temperatura da cama para observar a variação ao longo dos boxes. Com base nos resultados encontrados, foi constatado que os níveis de inclusão de óleo de soja não afetam o desempenho e rendimento das codornas, bem como não influenciam na perda de calor ao longo do ciclo de vida desses animais. A densidade de alojamento influenciou o consumo de ração, onde as aves criadas na densidade de 188,6 cm2.ave-1 obtiveram o menor consumo médio da dieta, sem impacto no ganho de peso e na conversão alimentar, possibilitando a criação com maior número de aves por boxe.

This study aimed to evaluate the influence of homeopathic products in diets of quails in the egg quality when submitted to different storage periods. In the trial we used 200 Japanese quails in a completely randomized design with 4 diets: reference diet, vehicle used in homeopathic products and 2 homeopathic products - Fertsigo® and Ovosigo® with ten replicates of three eggs in each. Egg quality parameters were evaluated during 3 storage periods. Data were evaluated as repeated measures in time, the effects of the interactions between treatments and time as well as their isolated effects were verified. There was the interaction between homeopathic products and storage time in the parameters of albumen and yolk height, Haugh unit, and yolk index, in which a reduction was obtained over time. For egg weight, yolk, albumen and shell, percentage of albumen, and percentage of eggshell there was a significant effect only for homeopathy. The inclusion of homeopathic additives increased egg weight. It is indicated the addition of the product with homeopathic basis Ovosigo® and FertSigo® in diets of Japanese quails in the laying phase resulting in better egg and components but did not influence the quality maintenance of eggs of Japanese quails in the periods evaluated. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of replacing corn with sorghum in feed on performance, carcass yield, and composition of specialized meat cuts in quails. A total of 1200, 1-day-old female quails were raised up to 42 days of age. The completely randomized design consisted of four treatments with six replicates each and with 50 quails in each cage. Treatments consisted of four levels of sorghum replacement in the diet (0, 40, 60, and 100% sorghum). All birds were weighed to assess the weight gain. Feed conversion was calculated as the relationship between feed intake and weight gain. Mortality was reported daily and calculated at the end of each week. At 42 days, the birds were slaughtered and the carcass, thigh and drumstick, and breast yields were assessed. Mineral matter, ether extract, and crude protein analyses were performed using breast cuts and thigh + drumstick cuts. No significant differences were noted in cut performance, yield, or composition. Thus, it can be concluded that the ground grain sorghum can entirely replace corn in quail feed, as it does not negatively affect carcass performance, yield, and nutritional quality. RESUMO: Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito da substituição do milho pelo sorgo sobre o desempenho, rendimento de carcaça e composição dos cortes nobres em codornas para corte. Foram alojadas 1.200 codornas de corte, fêmeas de um dia de idade até os 42 dias, distribuídas em um delineamento inteiramente casualizado, composto de quatro tratamentos, com seis repetições cada, sendo que, em cada gaiola, foram alojadas 50 codornas. Os tratamentos consistiram de quatro níveis de substituição do milho pelo sorgo (0, 40, 60 e 100% de sorgo). Todas as aves foram pesadas para obtenção do ganho de peso. A conversão alimentar foi calculada pela relação entre o consumo de ração e o ganho de peso, considerando o peso das aves mortas. A mortalidade era registrada diariamente e calculada ao final de cada semana. Aos 42 dias, as aves foram abatidas e obtidos os rendimentos de carcaça, coxa+sobrecoxa e peito. Para os cortes de peito e coxa+sobrecoxa, foram realizadas análises de matéria mineral, extrato etéreo e proteína bruta. Não se observaram diferenças significativas nas variáveis de desempenho, rendimento e composição de cortes. Conclui-se que o sorgo grão moído pode substituir totalmente o milho em rações para codornas de corte, pois não compromete os índices de desempenho, rendimento e qualidade nutricional da carcaça.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES The ban on the use of industrial antibiotics as performance-enhancing additives by the European Union has stimulated the studies to replace these additives in animal production with other alternatives additives. Among these studies, are the studies that evaluate the essential oils of aromatic plants that can present similar effects to the conventional additives. The objective of this trial was to evaluate the essential oil of Lippia gracilis as an antimicrobial agent against the bacteria Salmonella sp and Escherichia coli, and as a possible performance enhancer in growing Japanese quail diets. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design and the birds distributed within six treatments, seven replicates and twelve birds per plot. The treatments were: increasing levels of essential oil (0.0, 100, 200, 300 and 400mg/kg of feed) and a treatment with bacitracin (BMD). An antibiogram test, performance evaluation and quantitative microbiology of the intestinal contents of the birds were evaluated. The antibiogram and the microbiology were analyzed descriptively. For performance, linear and quadratic regressions were used. In addition, the Dunnett Test was used to evaluate with BMD treatment against the others. It was observed that in the in vitro test (antibiogram), the essential oil was effective in inhibiting the growth of Escherichia coli and Salmonella sp. In initial phase, there was reduction in feed intake and an improvement in feed conversion with an increase in the inclusion of Lippia gracilis essential oil in diets. The treatment containing BMD presented higher feed intake from to 200mg/kg of essential oil and greater weight gain from to 100mg/kg of essential oil. In the period from 2 to 35 days, the relative weight of the proventriculus, gizzard and intestine were increased with the inclusion of the essential oil in the diet compared to the BMD treatment. On the other hand, treatment content BMD presented higher feed intake and worse feed conversion compared to other treatments. Concluded that the increase in the levels of Lippia gracilis essential oil from the plateau up to 200 mg/kg reduced feed intake and weight gain from 2 to 21 days of age. In the period from 2 to 35 days of age, the treatment containing BMD provided an increase in feed intake and an improvement in feed conversion compared to the other treatments. A proibição do uso de antibióticos industriais como aditivos melhoradores de desempenho pela União Europeia estimulou diversas pesquisas objetivando substituir esses aditivos na produção animal por outros naturais. Dentre essas pesquisas, encontram-se os estudos que avaliam os óleos essenciais de plantas aromáticas que podem apresentar efeitos similares aos aditivos convencionais. Com isso, este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o óleo essencial do alecrim como agente antimicrobiano frente às bactérias Salmonella sp e Escherichia coli, e como possível melhorador de desempenho em dietas de codornas japonesas em crescimento. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento inteiramente casualizado e às aves distribuídas dentro de seis tratamentos, sete repetições e doze aves por parcela. Os tratamentos foram: cinco níveis crescentes de óleo essencial (0,0, 100, 200, 300 e 400mg/kg de ração) e um tratamento com bacitracina (BMD). Foi realizado teste de antibiograma, avaliação de desempenho e microbiologia quantitativa do conteúdo intestinal das aves. O antibiograma e a microbiologia foram analisados descritivamente. Para o desempenho, foram realizadas regressões linear e quadrática. Além disso, realizou-se o Teste de Dunnett a fim de avaliar o tratamento BMD frente aos demais. Observou-se que no teste in vitro (antibiograma), o óleo essencial foi efetivo ao inibir o crescimento de Escherichia coli e Salmonella sp. Na fase inicial, houve redução do consumo de ração e melhora na conversão alimentar com o aumento da inclusão do óleo essencial do alecrim às dietas. O tratamento contendo BMD apresentou maior consumo de ração a partir 200mg/kg de óleo essencial e maior ganho de peso a partir de 100mg/kg de óleo essencial. Já no período de 2 a 35 dias, o peso relativo do proventrículo, moela e do intestino foram aumentados com a inclusão do óleo essencial na ração frente ao tratamento contendo BMD. Já o tratamento contendo BMD apresentou maior consumo de ração e pior conversão alimentar em comparação aos demais tratamentos. Conclui-se que o aumento nos níveis do óleo essencial do alecrim da chapada a partir dos 200 mg/kg reduziu o consumo de ração e o ganho de peso na fase de 2 a 21 dias de idade. Já no período de 2 a 35 dias de idade o tratamento contendo BMD proporcionou aumento do consumo de ração e a melhora na conversão alimentar frente aos demais tratamentos. Conclui-se que o aumento nos níveis do óleo essencial do alecrim (Lippia gracilis Shauer) reduziu o consumo de ração e o ganho de peso na fase de 2 a 21 dias de idade. Já no período de 2 a 35 dias de idade, o melhor nível estimado foi de 196,5mg/kg de inclusão do óleo essencial de alecrim na dieta de codornas japonesas. São Cristóvão, SE

Foram utilizadas 240 codornas europeias não sexadas, com 21 dias de idade, distribuídas em grupos de 10 aves por parcela e submetidas a quatro níveis de inclusão do farelo de palma forrageira (0, 5, 10 e 15%) na ração, com seis repetições em um delineamento inteiramente casualisado, totalizando 24 parcelas experimentais.
