Background: Malnutrition is common in patients with chronic cardiovascular disease and is associated with significantly higher all-cause mortality. Approximately one-third of patients with heart failure are malnourished. However, the relationship between malnutrition and idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH) remains unclear. This study aimed to clarify the prognostic value of malnutrition in patients with IPAH. Methods: A total of 432 consecutive participants with IPAH were included in this study between March 2013 and August 2021. Three common malnutrition assessment tools, including the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI), prognostic nutritional index (PNI), and controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score, were used to evaluate the nutritional status of patients with IPAH. The relationships between the malnutrition tools and long-term adverse outcomes were determined using restricted cubic splines and multivariate Cox regression models. Results: During a mean follow-up of 3.1 years, 158 participants experienced clinical worsening or all-cause death. Patients were stratified into the low-, intermediate- and high-risk groups based on the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) risk stratification, and the PNI (55.9 ± 5.7 vs. 54.4 ± 7.2 vs. 51.1 ± 7.1, P = 0.005) and CONUT score (2.1 ± 0.9 vs. 2.5 ± 1.2 vs. 3.3 ± 1.1, P < 0.001) identified these patient groups better than the GNRI. All three malnutrition tools were associated with well-validated variables that reflected IPAH severity, such as the World Health Organization functional class, 6-min walk distance, and N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide level. The CONUT score exhibited better predictive ability than both the GNRI (ΔAUC = 0.059, P < 0.001) and PNI (ΔAUC = 0.095, P < 0.001) for adverse outcomes and significantly improved reclassification and discrimination beyond the ESC risk score. Multivariable Cox regression analysis indicated that only the CONUT score (hazard ratio = 1.363, 95% confidence interval 1.147, 1.619 per 1.0-standard deviation increment, P < 0.001) independently predicted adverse outcomes. Conclusions: The malnutrition status was associated with disease severity in patients with IPAH. The increase in new cancer diagnoses in the elderly calls for new, accessible, and easy-to-use prognostic tools that contribute to lowering the burden of the disease. Recognising the importance of inflammation and nutritional status in the progression of the disease, the purpose of this systematic review was to synthesise the evidence on the prognostic role of Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI) and Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) in predicting survival of older adult cancer patients. A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed and Web of Science Core Collection databases until 22 February 2024. The articles included in this review (n = 38) examined the relationships of PNI and CONUT with survival outcomes in elderly cancer patients. Despite high heterogeneity between the studies, most concluded that low PNI values are associated with poor overall survival (OS), particularly in gastric cancer patients. Most studies did not find an association between PNI and cancer-specific survival, progression-free survival, disease-free survival, recurrence-free survival, and mortality. Results regarding the prognostic role of CONUT in predicting survival were inconclusive. This study suggests that PNI could be used to predict OS in elderly cancer patients, while more studies are needed to assess the prognostic role of CONUT.

Abstract Background Nutritional assessment tools are used to predict outcomes in cancer. However, their utility in patients undergoing spinal surgery is unclear. This review examined if prognostic nutritional index (PNI), controlling nutritional status (CONUT), and geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) can predict adverse events after spinal surgeries. Methods PubMed, CENTRAL, Scopus, and Embase were screened by two reviewers for relevant studies up to 26th January 2024. The primary outcome of interest was total adverse events after spinal surgery. Secondary outcomes were surgical site infections (SSI) and mortality. Results 14 studies were included. Meta-analysis showed that while reduced PNI was not associated with an increased risk of SSI there was a significant association between PNI and higher risk of adverse events. Meta-analysis showed that high CONUT was not associated with an increased risk of complications after spinal surgeries. Pooled analysis showed that low GNRI was associated with an increased risk of both SSI and adverse events. Data on mortality was scarce. Conclusions The PNI and GNRI can predict adverse outcomes after spinal surgeries. Limited data shows that high CONUT is also associated with a non-significant increased risk of adverse outcomes. High GNRI was predictive of an increased risk of SSI. Data on mortality is too scarce for strong conclusions.

Background The occurrence of postoperative complications in lumbar degenerative disease (LDD) is closely related to malnutrition, and currently there is a lack of nutritional evaluation methods that can effectively, objectively, and comprehensively assess the nutritional status of LDD patients and predict the occurrence of postoperative complications. Objective To compare the predictive value of four nutritional evaluation methods of Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI), Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT), Naples Prognostic Score (NPS) and High-sensitivity Modified Glasgow Prognostic Score (HS-mGPS) for postoperative complications in patients with LDD, so as to formulate a precise nutritional intervention plan and effectively prevent complications. Methods A total of 201 patients diagnosed with LDD and underwent open surgery in Spine Surgery Department of Xiangya Hospital of Central South University from December 2021 to July 2022 were selected as the study subjects, four nutritional evaluation methods of PNI, CONUT, NPS and HS-mGPS were applied to assess the preoperative nutritional status of the patients, respectively, and occurrence of postoperative complications from postoperative period to hospital discharge were observed. The patients were divided into the complication group and non-complication group according to the occurrence of postoperative complications to analyze and compare the difference in clinical characteristics between the two groups; the optimal cut-off values of different nutritional evaluation methods were calculated by plotting the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and the prediction efficiency of different evaluation methods was compared, the area under curve (AUC) was compared by using MedCalc software. Multivariate Logistic regression model was used to analyze the correlation between different nutritional evaluation methods and postoperative complications. Results Postoperative complications occurred in 60 patients with an incidence rate of 29.8%. Simple Summary: Most new cancers worldwide are diagnosed in older adults, highlighting the need for accessible and easy-to-use prognostic tools that contribute to lowering the burden of the disease in this age group. Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the prognostic value of controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score in determining the prognosis of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with conventional transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (cTACE). Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed 936 patients who underwent cTACE for HCC between January 2012 and December 2018, and divided them into two groups based on their CONUT score. To balance the bias in baseline characteristics, propensity score matched (PSM) analysis was conducted. The Kaplan–Meier method was used to establish a cumulative survival curve, and the log-rank test was employed to determine differences in overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) among the CONUT score groups. Furthermore, the Cox proportional hazard model was employed to assess the correlation between CONUT score and OS and PFS, whereby hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were computed. Results: Before PSM, the median OS for the low (≤ 3) and high (≥ 4) CONUT group (558 vs. 378 patients) was 21.7 and 15.6 months, respectively, and the median PFS was 5.7 and 5 months. Following PSM, both the low and high CONUT score groups comprised 142 patients. The low CONUT score group exhibited a significantly longer OS compared to the high CONUT score group, as determined by the log-rank test (median OS 22.2 vs. 17.0 months, P = 0.014). No significant association was observed between CONUT group and PFS (median PFS 6.4 vs. 4.7 months, log-rank test, P = 0.121). Cox proportional hazard regression analysis revealed that a CONUT score of ≥ 4 was an independent risk factor for OS in patients with HCC who underwent cTACE (HR = 1.361; 95% CI: 1.047–1.771; P = 0.022). These findings were consistent across most subgroup analyses. Conclusion: A high CONUT score has been found to be a prognostic factor for poorer OS in patients with HCC who underwent cTACE. Background: In recent years, whole blood parameters and derivatives have been used as prognostic criteria in the course of various diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between parameters such as the neutrophil–lymphocyte ratio (NLR), the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), the prognostic nutritional index (PNI), controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score, nutritional risk index (NRI) and immunonutrition status and disease activity in patients with ischemic stroke of the small-vessel, large-vessel and other etiologies. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated the records of 1454 consecutive ischemic stroke patients hospitalized in the emergency department of Gaziosmanpasa Education and Research Hospital from 2019 to 2023. Results: Of the 1350 patients with ischemic stroke included in the study, 58.8% had small-vessel disease, 29.3% had large-vessel disease and 11.9% had other etiologies. There was a significant difference between the three etiology groups for PNI and CONUT. The mean of PNI was 47.30 ± 8.06 in the other etiology group, 37.25 ± 7.23 in the small-vessel group, and 34.78 ± 8.16 in the large-vessel disease group. The mean of CONUT was 5.49 ± 1.20 in the small-vessel group, 5.12 ± 1.46 in the large-vessel group and 4.22 ± 1.11 in the other etiology group. In addition, CONUT and PNI were also found to be independent risk factors for mortality. A negative significant correlation was observed between PNI and NLR (r: −0.692), SII (r: −0.591), and CONUT (r: −0.511). Significant correlations were observed between CONUT and NLR (r: 0.402), SII (r: 0.312). Conclusions: PNI, CONUT and NRI were found as more accurate prognostic indicators of nutritional status in patients with ischemic stroke. Abstract Background Although the prognostic value of the Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) has been reported in several previous studies, its clinical relevance for the presence of sarcopenia has not been assessed. Methods In this study, 305 DLBCL patients were reviewed. They were categorized into normal/mild (n = 219) and moderate/severe (n = 86) CONUT groups. Sarcopenia was assessed using the L3-skeletal muscle index measured by baseline computed tomography imaging. Based on CONUT score and sarcopenia, patients were grouped: A (normal/mild CONUT and no sarcopenia), B (either moderate/severe CONUT or sarcopenia, but not both), and C (both moderate/severe CONUT and sarcopenia). Results The moderate/severe CONUT group showed higher rates of ≥ grade 3 febrile neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, non-hematologic toxicities, and early treatment discontinuation not related to disease progression, compared to the normal/mild CONUT group. The moderate/severe CONUT group had a lower complete response rate (58.1% vs. 80.8%) and shorter median overall survival (18.5 vs. 162.6 months) than the normal/mild group. Group C had the poorest prognosis with a median survival of 8.6 months, while groups A and B showed better outcomes (not reached and 60.1 months, respectively). Combining CONUT score and sarcopenia improved the predictive accuracy of the Cox regression model (C-index: 0.763), compared to the performance of using either CONUT score (C-index: 0.754) or sarcopenia alone (C-index: 0.755). Conclusions In conclusion, the moderate/severe CONUT group exhibited treatment intolerance, lower response, and poor prognosis. Additionally, combining CONUT score and sarcopenia enhanced predictive accuracy for survival outcomes compared to individual variables.

Objective: To investigate the predictive value of Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score and systemic inflammation (SIS) score in the prognosis, short-term efficacy, and immune-related side effects of patient with recurrent or metastatic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (R/M ESCC) receiving immunotherapy as second line therapy combined with or without radiotherapy. Methods: Forty-eight patients with R/M ESCC who received second-line therapy with Camrelizumab were retrospectively studied. They were divided into the high and low score groups according to the CONUT and SIS score. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to analyze factors that might affect patient prognosis and the effects of different CONUT score and SIS on the short-term efficacy and immune-related toxic and side effects of patients. Results: The 1- and 2-year overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) rates were 42.9% and 22.5%, and 29.0% and 5.8%, respectively. The CONUT score ranged from 0 to 6 (3.31 ± 1.43), whereas the SIS score ranged from 0 to 2 (1.19 ± 0.73). Multivariate analysis showed that treatment related toxicity, number of cycles of Camrelizumab used, short-term effect and SIS score were independent prognostic factors for OS (P=0.044, 0.021, 0.021, 0.030, respectively), whereas SIS and CONUT scores were independent prognostic factors for PFS (P=0.005, 0.047, respectively). Patients with low CONUT/SIS score had a low incidence rate of immune-related adverse reactions (X²= 9.735, 5.693; P=0.002, 0.017) and better short-term efficacy (X²= 4.427, 7.438; P=0.035, 0.006). Conclusion: R/M ESCC patients with low CONUT/SIS score have better prognosis, higher objective response rate, lower incidence of immune-related toxic and side effects after receiving immunotherapy as second-line therapy. Background: Several studies have found that the prognostic nutritional index (PNI), controlling nutritional status (CONUT), and Glasgow Prognostic Score (GPS) of patients with laryngeal cancer accurately predict their prognosis. However, there is no consensus regarding the best assessment tool. Therefore, this study aimed to confirm the predictive value of the three nutritional scoring systems for the prognosis of patients with laryngeal cancer. Methods: This study analyzed a cohort of 427 patients with laryngeal cancer who visited our hospital. PNI, CONUT, and GPS were calculated, and the relationship between these indicators and prognosis was examined. Results: The optimal cut-off levels for overall survival (OS) of laryngeal cancer patients determined by PNI, CONUT, and GPS were 45, 3, and 0, respectively. When patients were stratified based on these thresholds, OS and disease-free survival (DFS) were significantly decreased in the malnutrition group (all three, p < 0.05). The OS rates of patients with laryngeal cancer were significantly affected by the three scores according to multivariate analysis. Conclusions: The three scoring methods had a high predictive value for the prognosis of patients with laryngeal cancer, with GPS having the strongest correlation with the prognosis of laryngeal cancer patients. Objective: The present study aimed to examine which nutritional index, such as the controlling nutritional status (CONUT), prognostic nutritional index (PNI), and geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI), is better for predicting prognosis in patients with chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) following revascularization. Method: We retrospectively analyzed data of patients who underwent revascularization for CLTI between 2008 and 2020. The endpoints were 2-year overall survival and limb salvage. The optimal cutoff values of 2-year overall survival and major amputation were determined by receiver operating characteristic curve analyses. Result: A total of 238 patients with CLTI and 289 limbs were analyzed. The 2-year overall survival rates were 48.9%, 54.6%, and 53.5% in patients with CONUT score ≥4, PNI score <42.6, and GNRI <98.4 compared with 80.0%, 80.0%, and 78.4% in patients with CONUT score <4, PNI score ≥42.6, and GNRI ≥98.4 (p < 0.01). Age, non-ambulatory status, hemodialysis, and nutritional indices were independent risk factors for 2-year mortality in the multivariate analyses. The 2-year limb salvage rates were 70.1%, 82.2%, and 81.9% in patients with CONUT score ≥7, PNI score <41.9, and GNRI <95.3 compared with 92.8%, 98.3%, and 94.2% in patients with CONUT score <7, PNI score ≥41.9, and GNRI ≥95.3 (p < 0.01). Wound, ischemia, and foot infection stage and each nutritional index (CONUT and PNI) were independent risk factors for major amputation in multivariate analyses. The overall survival and limb salvage rates of patients with malnutrition diagnosed by CONUT score were poor compared with those of normal nutrition or malnutrition diagnosed by PNI and/or GNRI scores. Malnutrition is associated with adverse outcomes in patients with diabetic kidney disease (DKD). However, it is uncertain which nutritional assessment tools are most effective in predicting the adverse outcomes of DKD. This retrospective study was conducted at a single center and included 367 patients diagnosed with DKD based on biopsy results between August 2009 and December 2018. Four nutritional assessment indices, namely the Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI), Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI), Triglycerides (TG) × Total Cholesterol (TC) × Body Weight (BW) Index (TCBI), and Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score, were selected and calculated. We aimed to assess the association between these nutritional scores and adverse outcomes, including progression to end-stage kidney disease (ESKD), cardiovascular diseases events (CVD), and all-cause mortality. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses, Kaplan–Meier analysis, along with Restricted cubic spline analysis were used to examine the relationship between nutritional scores and adverse outcomes. Furthermore, the area under the curve (AUC) was calculated using time-dependent receiver operating characteristics to determine the predictive value of the four nutritional scores alone and some combinations. Lastly, ordered logistic regression analysis was conducted to explore the correlation between the four nutritional scores and different renal histologic changes. The incidence of ESKD, CVD, and all-cause mortality was significantly higher in patients with DKD who had a lower PNI, lower GNRI, and higher CONUT score. Additionally, The TCBI performed the worst in terms of grading and risk assessment. The PNI offer the highest predictive value for adverse outcomes and a stronger correlation with renal histologic changes compared to other nutritional scores. Patients diagnosed with DKD who have a worse nutritional status are more likely to experience higher rates of adverse outcomes. The PNI might offer more valuable predictive values and a stronger correlation with different renal histologic changes compared to other nutritional scores.

Objective To explore the impact of controlling nutritional status and prognostic nutritional index on the prognosis of patients with myelodysplastic syndrome. Methods The clinical data of 119 patients with myelodysplastic syndrome treated in the department of Hematology of our hospital from March 2010 to December 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. The optimal cut-off point of observation index was calculated according to the receiver operating characteristic curve （ROC）. CONUT score and PNI were grouped based on the cut-off points of 4 and 36.75, respectively, and the differences between age, gender, blood cell count and IPSS scores were analyzed. The prognostic factors were analyzed via univariate and Cox multivariate regression analyses. Results The univariate analysis revealed that age, platelet count, bone marrow blast cell count, IPSS scores and CONUT were risk factors for the prognosis of patients with MDS. The multivariate analysis revealed that bone marrow blast cell count （HR = 1.06, 95%CI:1.01 ~ 1.12, P = 0.028） and CONUT （HR = 0.606, 95%CI:0.39 ~ 0.95, P = 0.028） were independent prognosis risk factors of patients with MDS. Conclusions High CONUT score in newly diagnosed MDS patients indicates poor prognosis and is an independent risk factor for MDS prognosis, while PNI is not an independent risk factor for MDS prognosis. Objectives: The preoperative controlling nutritional status (pCONUT) score has been shown correlated with the prognosis of some cancerous diseases; however, little is known about the effect of pCONUT score on hypopharyngeal cancer (HPC). Therefore, the objective of our study was to demonstrate the relationship between the pCONUT score and the clinical outcome of patients with HPC. Patients and Methods: Ninety-four patients with HPC who underwent surgery between May 2012 and Dec 2020 were enrolled in this study. We evaluated retrospectively their pCONUT scores and calculated the cutoff value regarding the patients' overall survival using the X-tile software. Kaplan–Meier and Cox proportional hazard regression model were used to determine how the pCONUT score affected overall survival. Results: A cutoff level of 4 was determined to be optimal for the pCONUT score, by which the patients were grouped into high pCONUT score (≥4, n = 22, 23.4%) or low pCONUT score (<4, n = 72, 76.6%) groups. The univariate analysis showed that high pCONUT scores correlated with reduced overall survival (hazard ratio: 2.925, 95% confidence interval: 1.526-5.607, P =.001). Furthermore, the multivariate analysis also showed that high pCONUT scores increased the risk of overall death (hazard ratio: 2.639, 95% confidence interval: 1.365-5.101, P =.004). Background: Nutrition has become an important parameter influencing the prognosis of several cancers. However, its impact on outcomes for bladder cancer (BC) is still unclear. This review examines the association between three commonly used nutritional indices, namely, the prognostic nutritional index (PNI), controlling nutritional status (CONUT), and the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) and outcomes of BC. Methods: PubMed, CENTRAL, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, and Google Scholar were explored for studies published up to April 13, 2023. Data from studies were pooled to examine the association between PNI, CONUT, or GNRI and overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS). Results: Thirteen studies were included. Meta-analysis demonstrated significantly poor OS with low PNI versus high PNI in BC patients (hazard ratio [HR]: 1.71; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.37, 2.14; I2 = 0%). This result remained significant in various subgroup analyses. However, no association was noted between PNI and RFS (HR: 1.22; 95% CI: 0.67, 2.24; I2 = 84%). Meta-analysis showed that patients with high CONUT scores had significantly poor OS (HR: 2.43; 95% CI: 1.82, 3.25; I2 = 0%) as well as RFS (HR: 2.90; 95% CI: 2.10, 4.01; I2 = 0%). Data on GNRI were scarce and conflicting. Conclusion: Limited data show that PNI and CONUT are predictive of outcomes in BC. Low PNI was associated with poor OS, while high CONUT was associated with poor OS and RFS. Data on GNRI are too scarce to obtain conclusions. Further studies are needed to supplement the results. Background: To investigate the predictive value of controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score in Postoperative Recurrence and Metastasis of Breast Cancer Patients with HER2-Low Expression. Methods: The clinicopathological data of 697 female breast cancer patients who pathology confirmed invasive ductal carcinoma and surgery in Harbin Medical University Tumor Hospital from January 2014 to January 2017 were retrospectively analyzed. The relationship between CONUT score and various clinicopathological factors as well as prognosis was evaluated. Results: Based on the cut-off point of ROC curve, compared with the low CONUT score group, the high CONUT score group had worse 5-year RFS. In subgroup analysis, compared with the low CONUT group, the high CONUT group had worse prognosis at different TNM stages. Univariate and multivariate results showed that the low CONUT score group had better overall survival and recurrence-free survival than the high CONUT group. Conclusion: CONUT score is an independent predictor of postoperative recurrence and metastasis in HER2-low breast cancer patients. Microvascular flap surgery is a widely acknowledged procedure for significant defect reconstruction. Multiple flap complication risk factors have been identified, yet there are limited data on laboratory biomarkers for the prediction of flap loss. The controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score has demonstrated good postoperative outcome assessment ability in diverse surgical populations. We aim to assess the predictive value of the CONUT score for complications in microvascular flap surgery. This prospective cohort study includes 72 adult patients undergoing elective microvascular flap surgery. Preoperative blood draws for analysis of full blood count, total plasma cholesterol, and albumin concentrations were collected on the day of surgery before crystalloid infusion. Postoperative data on flap complications and duration of hospitalization were obtained. The overall complication rate was 15.2%. True flap loss with vascular compromise occurred in 5.6%. No differences in flap complications were found between different areas of reconstruction, anatomical flap types, or indications for surgery. Obesity was more common in patients with flap complications (p = 0.01). The CONUT score had an AUC of 0.813 (0.659–0.967, p = 0.012) for predicting complications other than true flap loss due to vascular compromise. A CONUT score > 2 was indicated as optimal during cut-off analysis (p = 0.022). Patients with flap complications had a longer duration of hospitalization (13.55, 10.99–16.11 vs. 25.38, 14.82–35.93; p = 0.004). The Kaplan‒Meier analysis was used to assess NOAF-free survival in varying degrees of malnutrition. Cox proportional hazards models were used to identify the risk factors for NOAF.Results: Eighty-four (12.7%) patients developed NOAF during hospitalization. There was a statistically significant difference in the occurrence of NOAF among different categories of nutritional status. The CONUT score and GNRI classifications were independent predictors of NOAF. NOAF occurrence was associated with older age, higher uric acid levels, higher N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide levels, greater left atrial size, and worse Killip class upon admission.Conclusion: The nutritional status can affect NOAF occurrence in AMI patients after PCI. Purpose: Malnutrition is common among hemodialysis patients. A nutritional index may be important for their prognosis prediction. We examined the use of a modified version of the Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score as a predictor of mortality in hemodialysis patients and investigated whether statin use modified the association. Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study in 1130 adults (mean age 67.7 years, 35.0% women) on maintenance hemodialysis at four outpatient dialysis clinics in Japan. The exposure of interest was modified CONUT scores calculated by one-time data of serum albumin and total cholesterol at baseline, or mean data of these measures using multiple blood test results. The primary outcome was all-cause mortality. We examined the association between modified CONUT groups (low-risk, middle-risk, and high-risk) and mortality using multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression and logistic regression models in overall patients and by statin use. Results: During a median follow-up of 6.6 years, 525 (46.5%) patients died. Analysis using both one-time and mean data showed increased mortality risk in the high-risk modified CONUT score group as compared to the low-risk group (mean data: HR 2.52, 95% CI 1.96, 3.24); when stratified by statin use, the effect appeared stronger among users (mean data: HR 5.84, 95% CI 2.98, 11.44). Strong predictive ability was observed, particularly for mortality risk at 5 year follow-up using mean data (AUC = 0.842). Conclusion: Our results suggest that the modified CONUT score may be useful in helping clinicians quickly identify hemodialysis patients with poorer prognosis who may benefit from close monitoring and interventions. Background: Nutritional status of critically ill patients is an important factor affecting complications and mortality. This study aimed to investigate the impact of three nutritional indices, the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI), Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI), and Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT), on mortality in patients with sepsis in Japan. Methods: This retrospective observational study used the Medical Data Vision database containing data from 42 acute-care hospitals in Japan. We extracted data on baseline characteristics on admission. GNRI, PNI, and CONUT scores on admission were also calculated. To evaluate the significance of these three nutritional indices on mortality, we used logistic regression to fit restricted cubic spline models and constructed Kaplan–Meier survival curves. Results: We identified 32,159 patients with sepsis according to the inclusion criteria. Of them, 1804 patients were treated in intensive care units, and 3461 patients were non-survivors. When the GNRI dropped below 100, the risk of mortality rose sharply, as did that when the PNI dropped below about 40. An increased CONUT score was associated with increased mortality in an apparent linear manner. Objectives: Malnutrition is an independent risk factor for poor outcomes in patients who suffered an acute ischemic stroke (AIS). The controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score can provide information for nutritional management in AIS patients. However, the risk factors associated with theCONUT score have not been established to date. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to investigate the CONUT score of patients with AIS and explore the potential risk factors associated with it. Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of the data from consecutive AIS patients who were recruited in the CIRCLE study. Within 2 days of admission, we gathered the CONUT score, the Nutritional Risk Screening 2002, the Modified Rankin Scale, the National Institutes of Health Neurological Deficit Score (NIHSS), and demographic data from medical records. We used chi-squared tests to examine admission, and a logistic regression analysis was performed to explore the risk factors associated with CONUT in patients with AIS. Results: A total of 231 patients with AIS participated in the study, with a mean age of 62.32 ± 13.0 years and amean NIHSS of 6.77 ± 3.8. Of these patients, 41(17.7%) had hyperlipidemia. In terms of nutritional assessment, 137(59.3%) patients with AIS had high CONUT scores, 86(37.2%) patients with AIS had low or high BMI, and 117(50.6%) patients with AIS had NRS-2002 scores below 3. The chi-squared tests showed that age, NIHSS, body mass index (BMI), and hyperlipidemia were associated with the CONUT score (P < 0.05). The logistic regression analysis showed that low NIHSS scores (OR = 0.055 95% CI: 0.003-0.893), younger age (OR = 0.159 95% CI: 0.054-0.469), and hyperlipidemia (OR = 0.303 95% CI: 0.141-0.648) were independently associated with lower CONUT scores (P < 0.05), whereas BMI was not found to be independently associated with the CONUT. Conclusions: More than half of the patients with AIS were at risk of malnutrition, with age and neurological deficits being identified as risk factors for nutritional control. This systematic review and meta-analysis sought to examine the association between the controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score and adverse outcomes in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). PubMed and Embase databases were searched for eligible studies from their inceptions to December 12, 2021 to identify studies investigating the association of the CONUT score with major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) and all-cause mortality in CAD patients. Twelve studies (36,198 CAD) patients satisfied the criteria. Comparison of the high with low CONUT score, the pooled multivariate adjusted risk ratios (RR) was 1.78 (95% confidence intervals [CI] 1.36-2.32) for MACEs and 1.45 (95% CI 1.27–1.66) for all-cause mortality, respectively. When compared with patients with normal nutrition, malnourished (defined by the CONUT score ≥2) patients conferred a 52% increased risk of MACEs. Additionally, per point CONUT score increment was associated with 15% and 11% higher risk of MACEs and all-cause mortality, respectively. Higher CONUT score independently predicts the MACEs all-cause mortality in CAD patients. Summary: Background: /Objective: As a new immune-nutritional marker, the controlled nutritional status (CONUT) score has been reported to predict the prognosis of cancer patients. We aimed to elucidate the prognostic value of preoperative CONUT score in pancreatic cancer patients undergoing radical surgery, and to construct a nomogram based on CONUT score to predict individual survival. Methods: Preoperative CONUT scores were calculated prospectively in 382 patients with pancreatic cancer who underwent radical surgery. Evaluated the relationship between CONUT score and pancreatic cancer prognosis. Cox proportional hazard models were used to determine predictors of survival and a new nomogram was established to predict pancreatic cancer overall survival (OS). Results: The area under curve of CONUT score was higher than other immune-nutritional indexes. The OS of the high-CONUT group were significantly lower than that of low-CONUT group. Multivariate analysis showed that CONUT score, gender, AJCC stage, complications and reoperation were independent prognostic factors for OS. Nomogram based on these variables has better discriminant ability in predicting survival compared with other traditional staging systems. Conclusions: Preoperative CONUT score is an effective independent predictor of OS in pancreatic cancer patients undergoing radical surgery. This new CONUT based nomogram provides accurate, individualized survival prediction for pancreatic cancer.

Objectives: Malnutrition is associated with increased incidence of heart failure (HF). Left ventricular (LV) remodeling is one of the most important processes in the occurrence and evolution of HF. However, the association between nutritional status and LV remodeling is not well known. The study aimed to investigate the association between malnutrition and LV remodeling. Design: The study was a retrospective observation study. Setting and Participants: We included patients from the registry of Cardiorenal Improvement study from January 2007 to December 2018 at Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital. Measurements: The primary endpoint was LV remodeling, defined as an absolute decrease in LV ejection fraction ≥10% after discharge compared with baseline. Nutritional status was assessed by the Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score. Eligible patients were divided into absent-mild malnutrition group (CONUT score ≤4) and moderate-severe malnutrition group (CONUT score >4). Univariable and multivariable logistic regression was performed to verify the association between malnutrition and left ventricular remodeling. Results: A total of 7,217 patients (mean age 61.3±10.5 years, 71.7% male) were included in the final analysis, among which 712 (9.9%) had LV remodeling. The incidence of LV remodeling in moderate-severe malnutrition group was significantly higher than that in absent-mild malnutrition group (12.9% vs. 9.5%, p=0.002). In multivariable logistic regression, moderate-severe malnutrition group was significantly associated with 1.69-fold increased risk of LV remodeling after adjusting confounders (OR: 1.69, CI: 1.32–2.16). Similar results were observed in subgroup stratified by age, gender, and coronary artery disease. Conclusion: Nearly one eighth of patients were classified as moderate-severe malnutrition, 12% of whom had LV remodeling. Moderate-severe malnutrition was associated with 69% increased risk of LV remodeling. Background: The controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score, as an immune-nutritional index, has been reported to be related to prognosis in several cancers. Neoadjuvant immunochemotherapy (nICT) is an emerging pattern for cancer treatment in recent years. However, the usefulness of CONUT in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) with nICT has not been reported so far. This study attempted to clarify the usefulness of CONUT in predicting disease-free survival (DFS) in ESCC with nICT. Methods: Two hundred sixteen ESCC patients receiving nICT between 2019 and 2021 were retrospectively enrolled. Based on CONUT, the patients were divided into two groups: low groups (score ≤ 2) and high (score ≥ 3) groups. The relationships between CONUT and clinical characteristics were estimated. Cox regression analyses with hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were also performed to evaluate the prognostic factors of DFS. Results: Fifty-nine (27.3%) patients achieved pathologic complete response (pCR), and 30 (13.9%) cases had a recurrence. There were 150 cases (69.4%) in low CONUT group and 66 cases (30.6%) in high CONUT group, respectively. The results revealed that vessel invasion (P = 0.037), postoperative pneumonia (P = 0.001), advanced ypT stage (P = 0.011), cTNM stage (P = 0.007), and ypTNM stage (P < 0.001) were significantly related to patients with a high CONUT score. A high pCR rate was found in patients with a low CONUT score (33.3% vs. 13.6%, P = 0.003), and a high recurrence rate was found in patients with a high CONUT score (24.2% vs. 9.3%, P = 0.004), respectively. Patients with a low CONUT score had a better 1-year DFS than those with a high CONUT score (90.7% vs. 75.8%, P = 0.004). Multivariate analyses indicated that the pretreatment CONUT score was an independent predictor regarding DFS (HR = 2.221, 95% CI: 1.067--4.625, P = 0.033). Conclusion: A better response and a lower recurrence were found in ESCC patients with a lower pretreatment CONUT. The prevalence and role of malnutrition in periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) remain unclear. This study aimed to use measurable nutritional screening tools to assess the prevalence of malnutrition in PJI patients during two-stage exchange arthroplasty and to explore the association between malnutrition and treatment failure. Our study retrospectively included 183 PJI cases who underwent 1st stage exchange arthroplasty and had available nutritional parameters, of which 167 proceeded with 2nd stage reimplantation. The recently proposed Musculoskeletal Infection Society (MSIS) Outcome Reporting Tool was used to determine clinical outcomes. The Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT), Nutritional Risk Index (NRI), and Naples Prognostic Score (NPS) were used to identify malnutrition at 1st and 2nd stage exchange, respectively. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to determine the association between malnutrition and treatment failure. Restricted cubic spline models were further used to explore the dose–response association. Additionally, risk factors for moderate-to-severe malnutrition were evaluated. Malnourished patients identified by CONUT, NPS, and NRI accounted for 48.1% (88/183), 98.9% (181/183), and 55.7% (102/183) of patients at 1st stage, and 9.0% (15/167), 41.9% (70/167), and 43.1% (72/167) at 2nd stage, indicating a significant improvement in nutritional status. We found that poorer nutritional status was a predictor of treatment failure, with CONUT performing best as a predictive tool. Moderate-to-severe malnutrition at 1st stage identified by CONUT was significantly related to treatment failure directly caused by PJI (odds ratio [OR] = 5.86), while the OR was raised to 12.15 at 2nd stage (OR = 12.15). The linear dose–response associations between them were also confirmed (P for nonlinearity at both 1st and 2nd stage > 0.05). As for total treatment failure, moderate-to-severe malnutrition as determined by CONUT was associated with a 1.96-fold and 8.99-fold elevated risk at the 1st and 2nd stages, respectively. Age ≥ 68 years (OR = 5.35) and an increased number of previous surgeries (OR = 2.04) may be risk factors for moderate-to-severe malnutrition. Overall, the prevalence of malnutrition in PJI patients is very high. Given the strong association between moderate-to-severe malnutrition identified by CONUT and PJI treatment failure, COUNT could be a promising tool to evaluate the nutritional status of PJI patients to optimize treatment outcomes. The median score of NRS-2002, CONUT, PNI, and GNRI was 1.0, 3.0, 45.8, and 98.6, respectively. Nutritional risk was proven to be associated with CI-AKI when four different nutritional tools were employed, including NRS-2002 ([3-7 vs. 0]: odds ratio [95% confidence interval], OR [95%CI] = 4.026 [2.732 to 5.932], P < 0.001), CONUT ([6-12 vs. 0-1]: OR [95%CI] = 2.230 [1.586 to 3.136], P < 0.001), PNI ([< 38 vs. ≥52]: OR [95%CI] = 2.349 [1.529 to 3.610], P < 0.001), and GNRI ([< 90 vs. ≥104]: OR [95%CI] = 1.822 [1.229 to 2.702], P = 0.003). This is consistent when subgroup analyses were performed. Objective: The aim of this meta-analysis was to investigate the association between malnutrition assessed by the controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score and all-cause mortality in patients with heart failure. Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis. Settings: A comprehensively literature search of PubMed and Embase databases was performed until 30 November 2020. Studies reporting the utility of CONUT score in prediction of all-cause mortality among patients with heart failure were eligible. Patients with a CONUT score ≥2 are grouped as malnourished. Predictive values of the CONUT score were summarized by pooling the multivariable-adjusted risk ratios (RR) with 95 % CI for the malnourished v. normal nutritional status or per point CONUT score increase. Participants: Ten studies involving 5196 patients with heart failure. Results: Malnourished patients with heart failure conferred a higher risk of all-cause mortality (RR 1·92; 95 % CI 1·58, 2·34) compared with the normal nutritional status. Subgroup analysis showed the malnourished patients with heart failure had an increased risk of in-hospital mortality (RR 1·78; 95 % CI 1·29, 2·46) and follow-up mortality (RR 2·01; 95 % CI 1·58, 2·57). Moreover, per point increase in CONUT score significantly increased 16% risk of all-cause mortality during the follow-up. Conclusions: Malnutrition defined by the CONUT score is an independent predictor of all-cause mortality in patients with heart failure. Abstract Background The controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score has been widely used to evaluate the nutritional and immunological status. Clinical value of postoperative CONUT (PoCONUT) score in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains unknown. This study assessed whether PoCONUT score could serve as a useful predictor of survival for patients with small HCC. Methods 547 consecutive patients with small HCC who underwent liver resection between February 2007 and December 2015 were included in this retrospective case-control study. Patients were categorized into two groups: low PoCONUT group (PoCONUT score ≤ 2, n = 382) and high PoCONUT group (PoCONUT score ≥ 3, n = 165). Propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was applied to balance the bias in baseline characteristics. A cumulative survival curve was established by the Kaplan–Meier method, and differences in OS and RFS among CONUT score groups were determined by the log rank test. Cox proportional hazard regression analysis was used to evaluate the association of PoCONUT score and overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS), with calculation of hazard ratios (HRs) and 95 % confidence intervals (95 % CIs). Results Cox proportional hazard regression analysis suggested that the PoCONUT score was an independent risk factor for both OS and RFS in patients with small HCC before and after PSM. /Objective: As a new immune-nutritional marker, the controlled nutritional status (CONUT) score has been reported to predict the prognosis of cancer patients. We aimed to elucidate the prognostic value of preoperative CONUT score in pancreatic cancer patients undergoing radical surgery, and to construct a nomogram based on CONUT score to predict individual survival. Preoperative CONUT scores were calculated prospectively in 382 patients with pancreatic cancer who underwent radical surgery. Evaluated the relationship between CONUT score and pancreatic cancer prognosis. Cox proportional hazard models were used to determine predictors of survival and a new nomogram was established to predict pancreatic cancer overall survival (OS). The area under curve of CONUT score was higher than other immune-nutritional indexes. The OS of the high-CONUT group were significantly lower than that of low-CONUT group. Multivariate analysis showed that CONUT score, gender, AJCC stage, complications and reoperation were independent prognostic factors for OS. Nomogram based on these variables has better discriminant ability in predicting survival compared with other traditional staging systems. Immune-nutritional status is correlated with a clinical outcome in critical illness. Recently, controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score and prognostic nutrition index (PNI) has been reported to predict prognosis following cancer and other diseases. The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between the CONUT score and PNI and 6-month outcome in patients with severe traumatic brain injury (STBI). We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 78 patients with STBI, including the CONUT score and PNI. Patients were divided into high CONUT group and low CONUT group. Patients were also divided into high PNI and low PNI group respectively. The 6-month outcome was evaluated by the modified Rankin scale (mRS). The unfavorable outcome was defined as mRS score ≥3. The unfavorable outcome group had lower Glasgow coma scale (GCS) scores, serum albumin, total cholesterol, PNI, and higher CONUT scores (P < 0.05). Both CONUT scores and PNI were strongly correlated with mRS (r = 0.429, P < 0.05; r = −0.590, P < 0.05, respectively). After adjustment for confounding factors, the odds ratios of CONUT scores and PNI for predicting unfavorable outcome were 10.478 (95% CI: 2.793–39.301) and −0.039 (95% CI: 0.008–0.204), respectively. The area under the curve (AUC) of CONUT scores for predicting unfavorable outcome was 0.777 (95% CI: 0.674–0.880, P < 0.01), which was similar to PNI (0.764, 95% CI: 0.657–0.87, P < 0.01). Background: Nutritional status of critically ill patients is an important factor affecting complications and mortality. This study aimed to investigate the impact of three nutritional indices, the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI), Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI), and Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT), on mortality in patients with sepsis in Japan. Methods: This retrospective observational study used the Medical Data Vision database containing data from 42 acute-care hospitals in Japan. We extracted data on baseline characteristics on admission. GNRI, PNI, and CONUT scores on admission were also calculated. To evaluate the significance of these three nutritional indices on mortality, we used logistic regression to fit restricted cubic spline models and constructed Kaplan–Meier survival curves. Results: We identified 32,159 patients with sepsis according to the inclusion criteria. Of them, 1804 patients were treated in intensive care units, and 3461 patients were non-survivors. When the GNRI dropped below 100, the risk of mortality rose sharply, as did that when the PNI dropped below about 40. An increased CONUT score was associated with increased mortality in an apparent linear manner. Conclusion: In sepsis management, GNRI and PNI values may potentially be helpful in identifying patients with a high risk of death.

Results: Through the CONUT score, there were 75 (51.37%) patients in the low CONUT group and 71 (48.63%) patients in the high CONUT group. There was a correlation between the CONUT score and age (p = 0.005), pathology (p = 0.043), ALB (p = 0.020), PALB (p = 0.032), and Hb (p = 0.001). The CA724, TNM stage, and treatment (ICIs vs. chemotherapy) were the independent prognostic factors for PFS and OS by multivariate analyses. Patients with high CONUT score had poorer PFS and OS (χ2 = 3.238, p = 0.072, and χ2 = 4.298, p = 0.038). In the subgroup analysis, the patients with high CONUT score were associated with shorter PFS and OS with ICIs or chemotherapy. The number of elderly patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has been increasing, but it remains unclear whether hepatectomy can be performed using the same criteria as in younger patients. Furthermore, the appropriate preoperative evaluation for hepatectomy in elderly patients is not yet clearly defined. Here, we investigated the applicability of preoperative assessment using the Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score to help improve hepatectomy outcomes in elderly patients with HCC. This was a single-center retrospective analysis, and the study population comprised 64 consecutive patients who underwent hepatectomy for HCC between January 2012 and August 2016. We compared the preoperative assessment and perioperative outcomes between elderly (= 75 years old) and younger (< 75 years old) patients. A total of 61 patients were reviewed. Poor preoperative CONUT score was associated with a longer postoperative hospital stay in elderly patients undergoing hepatectomy for HCC. In addition, although elderly patients had similar perioperative outcomes to younger patients, the incidence of delirium was significantly higher, and univariate analysis confirmed that old age is a risk factor for delirium among the preoperative factors. Hepatectomy for HCC in the elderly can be safely performed with appropriate preoperative nutritional assessment using CONUT score and prevention of postoperative delirium. Abstract Background Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score is calculated using laboratory values, including serum albumin, total cholesterol concentration, and total lymphocyte count; it is reportedly valuable for making nutritional assessments. One advantage of CONUT score over other nutritional assessments is that it can be calculated retrospectively using only objective laboratory values. Studies demonstrated that CONUT score was a useful tool for predicting prognosis and complications in various surgical conditions. Nevertheless, few studies utilized the score as a potential predictive marker for postoperative complications among hip fracture patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the association between CONUT score and postoperative complications in hip fracture patients. Methods We retrospectively reviewed 211 elderly patients who underwent hip fracture surgery at a single institution from 2013 to 2018. CONUT score was calculated using preoperative routine laboratory tests for serum albumin, total cholesterol concentration, and total lymphocyte count. As potential confounders, we extracted data such as patient age, sex, fracture type, and general conditions/comorbidities, as defined by the American Society of Anesthesiologists Physical Status (ASA-PS) classification and the Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI). Postoperative complications were defined as a Clavien-Dindo classification of 1 or more. Simple and multivaribale logistic regression analyses were performed to assess the incidence of postoperative complications as the outcome measures. Results The mean age [IQR] was 86 [80–90], and 80.1% of the reviewed patients were female. Based on the CONUT scores, 78.7% of hip fracture patients were classified as malnourished; 18% experienced postoperative complications. Simple analyses revealed significant risk factors for postoperative complications, including age, the ASA-PS, the CCI, and the CONUT score. Multivariable analysis found that CONUT score was the independent risk factor for postoperative complications (odd ratio = 1.21, 95% confidence interval = 1.01–1.45, p = 0.04). Conclusions Preoperative CONUT scores are independently associated with the incidence of postoperative complications. CONUT score can be used for risk assessment in hip fracture patients to predict early postoperative complications.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between nutritional status and hospital outcomes in patients with chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) in a local area of contemporary super-aged society of Japan., Materials and Methods: We analyzed 131 consecutive patients with 179 lower limb diseases admitted to our hospital for the treatment of CLTI between April 2018 and March 2023. These 131 patients were divided into 3 groups according to hospital outcomes: home discharge (HD), out-of-home discharge (OD), and in-hospital death (ID). Patient and lesion backgrounds were compared among the 3 groups, and a multivariable regression analysis was used to analyze the interaction between malnutrition and composite hard endpoints., Results: The median age was 82.8 years, and non-ambulatory patients comprised 61.8% of the study population. The HD group included more ambulatory and fewer patients with higher CONUT score or inflammation than OD or ID group. The Rutherford classification and Wound, Ischemia, and foot Infection stage were significantly more severe in the ID group than in the HD group. Endovascular treatment (EVT) was more often implemented in the HD (94.9%) and OD (81.7%) groups than in the ID group (60.0%). However, all EVT procedures in the ID group were performed until as distally as possible to achieve the target arterial path success contrary to some EVT procedures in the HD or ID group that targeted lesions only above the knee. Multivariate analysis showed that a non-ambulatory state (hazard ratio [HR]=3.65, 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.48-9.02) and a higher controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score (≥5) (HR=7.46, 95% CI=1.66-33.6) were significant predictors for composite endpoints (major amputation or ID). Patients with lower CONUT scores (≤4) showed better outcomes in all indices including overall survival, major amputation-free survival, and wound healing., Conclusion: Condition of the CLTI patients represented by higher CONUT score emerged as the most influential predictor of major amputation or ID. Furthermore, non-ambulatory status or condition of higher CONUT score affects the destination after discharge. The prevalence and role of malnutrition in periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) remain unclear. This study aimed to use measurable nutritional screening tools to assess the prevalence of malnutrition in PJI patients during two-stage exchange arthroplasty and to explore the association between malnutrition and treatment failure. Our study retrospectively included 183 PJI cases who underwent 1st stage exchange arthroplasty and had available nutritional parameters, of which 167 proceeded with 2nd stage reimplantation. The recently proposed Musculoskeletal Infection Society (MSIS) Outcome Reporting Tool was used to determine clinical outcomes. The Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT), Nutritional Risk Index (NRI), and Naples Prognostic Score (NPS) were used to identify malnutrition at 1st and 2nd stage exchange, respectively. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to determine the association between malnutrition and treatment failure. Restricted cubic spline models were further used to explore the dose–response association. Additionally, risk factors for moderate-to-severe malnutrition were evaluated. Malnourished patients identified by CONUT, NPS, and NRI accounted for 48.1% (88/183), 98.9% (181/183), and 55.7% (102/183) of patients at 1st stage, and 9.0% (15/167), 41.9% (70/167), and 43.1% (72/167) at 2nd stage, indicating a significant improvement in nutritional status. We found that poorer nutritional status was a predictor of treatment failure, with CONUT performing best as a predictive tool. Moderate-to-severe malnutrition at 1st stage identified by CONUT was significantly related to treatment failure directly caused by PJI (odds ratio [OR] = 5.86), while the OR was raised to 12.15 at 2nd stage (OR = 12.15). The linear dose–response associations between them were also confirmed (P for nonlinearity at both 1st and 2nd stage > 0.05). As for total treatment failure, moderate-to-severe malnutrition as determined by CONUT was associated with a 1.96-fold and 8.99-fold elevated risk at the 1st and 2nd stages, respectively. Age ≥ 68 years (OR = 5.35) and an increased number of previous surgeries (OR = 2.04) may be risk factors for moderate-to-severe malnutrition. Overall, the prevalence of malnutrition in PJI patients is very high. Given the strong association between moderate-to-severe malnutrition identified by CONUT and PJI treatment failure, COUNT could be a promising tool to evaluate the nutritional status of PJI patients to optimize treatment outcomes.
