Background: Hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) pose serious challenges to safe and high-quality healthcare delivery. They are associated with prolonged hospital stays, disability, economic burden, and mortality, and are usually consequences of poor infection prevention and control practices. The objective of this study was to assess the level of knowledge, attitude and practice of healthcare workers on infection prevention, and the determining factors at the National Hospital Abuja, Nigeria. Methodology: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study of 300 participants selected by multi-stage and systematic random sampling techniques at the National Hospital Abuja. Data on knowledge of HAIs, attitude toward HAI prevention, and practice of HAI prevention were collected from each participant using self-administered structured questionnaires. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Science, version 25.0. Chi-square test was used to determine the association between categorical variables, and the level of significance was set at p<0.05. Results: Of the 300 questionnaires administered, 286 were duly filled and returned, resulting in a response rate of 95.3%. One hundred and three (53.0%) respondents were within the age group 31-40 years, over half of the respondents were females (58.7%) and 57.0% had work experience of less than 5 years. Based on the cut-off scores of 15.7, 32.2 and 8.5 that characterized respondents’ knowledge, attitude and practice of infection prevention respectively as good or poor, 50.4% of the respondents had good knowledge of HAIs, 71.0% had good attitude towards HAIs prevention and 55.5% had good infection prevention practices. However, good knowledge of HAIs was significantly associated with poor infection prevention practices (p=0.002). Female gender (p=0.029), work experience of less than 5 years (p=0.036), laboratory scientist profession (p=0.010), and no previous training on HAIs (p=0.005) were factors significantly associated with good infection prevention practices among the respondents. Conclusion: In this study, good knowledge of HAIs, and infection prevention practices among the respondents were average, although good attitude towards HAIs prevention was high. These findings highlight the need to continue intensive and in-service trainings of healthcare workers toward HAIs prevention, including behavioral change, using innovative approaches. The valsartan/sacubitril (V/S, marketed under the name Uperio) drug combination is a new therapy available in Morocco since 2018, in three dosages (50, 100 and 200 mg), for the management of heart failure chronic symptomatic with reduced ejection fraction. The treatment implementation, delivered in town pharmacies, is in principle carried out by a cardiologist, hospital or private. However, we point out the absence of studies dealing with the prescribing and dispensing practices of this medication by doctors and pharmacists in Morocco. Our survey objective was to assess doctors and pharmacists' perception and state of knowledge in the city of Fez within this new therapy. This descriptive observational study was carried out with cardiologists and pharmacists who responded to an anonymous questionnaire. In total, 28 cardiologists and 100 pharmacists participated in the study with a participation rate of 100% for cardiologists and 55% for pharmacists. The main results were as follows: 70.4% of the cardiologists surveyed had already prescribed V/S, and the arguments in favor of V/S were mainly the reduction in hospitalizations (89.3% of responses) and the medication effectiveness medication (82.1%). Cost was the main barrier to prescribing (89.3% of responses). The interviewed pharmacists reported a lack of information and especially training on V/S. This study revealed certain gaps in pharmacists' knowledge of this new treatment, thus demonstrating a need for information. The cardiologist's V/S perception is therefore positive, given the significant prescription of this drug despite its high cost, which remains the main obstacle to its use according to our respondents.

BREASTFEEDING , *PREGNANT women , *BREASTFEEDING techniques , *NUTRITION education , *MOTHERS , *COMMUNAL living - Abstract
Despite the efforts of the Burkinabe government and its partners in the fight against malnutrition, it remains a major public health problem. In 2020, two out of five children under six months of age were not exclusively breastfed and three out of five children under two years of age have an undiversified diet. The present study is a descriptive cross-sectional study of knowledge, attitudes and practices on exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of life and complementary feeding of breastfeeding mothers and pregnant mothers. It took place from May to June 2020 in eight villages of the rural commune of Dissihn in the southwestern region of Burkina Faso. Interviews were conducted with 242 mothers including 152 primiparous and non-preparous breastfeeding mothers and 90 pregnant mothers through a direct survey. The mothers were mostly young, with an average age of 27 years, and more than half of them had no schooling 57% (n=138). The study showed that only 38.2% (n=58) and 36.2% (n=33) of breastfeeding mothers and pregnant mothers respectively had a good level of knowledge about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding. Analyses showed that the mother's age (p=0,024), her access to information on exclusive breastfeeding (p=0.033), her participation in nutrition education sessions (p=0.006) and in the infant and young child feeding (ANJE) services and practices learning groups (GASPA) (p=0.004) positively influenced her level of knowledge of exclusive breastfeeding in practice, 30.4% (n=46) of the mothers claimed to have exclusively breastfed their child during the first six months of life. Finally, 5.2% (n=8) of them diversified the diet of their children between 6 and 23 months of age. The obstacles mentioned by the women that prevent the optimal practice of infant and young child feeding (ANJE) were socio-cultural. A rate of 81.7% (n=198) of them found that certain local traditional practices made exclusive breastfeeding difficult or impossible. In addition, low food availability was cited as the main cause of less diversified diets among children aged 6 to 23 months. Age-appropriate feeding practices are low in our study area. Thus, nutrition education should be encouraged to reduce this problem. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CARDIAC arrest , *CARDIAC resuscitation , *CARDIOPULMONARY resuscitation , *RETIREES , *CARDIAC patients , *ADVANCED cardiac life support - Abstract
Introduction: For cardiac arrest victims, providing high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a fundamental component of initial care, especially in out-of-hospital settings. We sought to assess the knowledge of nonmedically trained individuals about CPR in case of cardiac arrest in the population of Jazan, Saudi Arabia. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey containing 22 questions was administered to individuals aged ≥ 18 years who were not health-care providers. The sample comprised residents of Jazan, Saudi Arabia. The survey included knowledge about the signs of cardiac arrest, previous experiences with CPR, knowledge of basic life support (BLS), and concerns related to CPR. Results: This study examined responses from 480 people to assess their knowledge of CPR. More than one-half were female, and only 33% were male. Only 36.04% reported having received CPR training. In the event of a family member's cardiac arrest, more than 90% state that they would perform CPR. If a family member suffered a sudden cardiac arrest, more than 70% would call an ambulance immediately, whereas only 48% would call an ambulance if the same thing happened to a stranger. Fear of making a mistake was the most common reason for not performing CPR (70.63%). The media was the most common source of CPR training. Women were more aware of the warning signs of sudden cardiac arrest than men. Women were also more likely than men to perform CPR or call for assistance. Furthermore, women were significantly more likely than men to discontinue CPR on a sudden cardiac arrest patient for fear of stopping a working heart or being contaminated by blood or vomit. Few respondents were willing to undergo CPR training; students, homemakers, and retired people were more willing to be trained in CPR than others. Conclusion: In the Saudi Arabian province of Jazan, nonmedically trained people demonstrated a low level of CPR training and knowledge. We believe that making BLS courses available to the general public will increase CPR awareness and understanding among adults and increase survival rates in cases of sudden cardiac arrest.

Background: Routine immunization is a key strategy in the prevention of vaccine-preventable diseases. The objective of the study was to assess the knowledge and attitudes of mothers regarding the practice of vaccination in rural and urban areas. Methods: This is a comparative descriptive cross-sectional study that took place in two health areas (urban and rural) over a period of three (3) months from October to December 2022. It involved mothers or guardians of children who came for routine vaccination. Results: The mean age of the women was 28.76±6.85 years in urban areas and 26.51±7.37 years in rural areas. About 72.00% and 43.00% of the women in urban and rural areas, respectively, had given a good definition of vaccination. 88.00% of women in urban areas knew at least one EPI target disease, compared to 55.00% in rural areas. Only 31.00% of women in urban areas knew the vaccination schedule, compared to 12.00% in urban areas. Majority of women in urban (97.00%) and rural (67.00%) areas found it necessary to make up for missed immunization appointments in next sessions. Majority of them considered it necessary to send their children to the health center in the event of postimmunization symptoms (urban: 80.00%, rural: 53.00%). Conclusion: A good knowledge and practice of vaccination would allow to protect children against vaccine preventable diseases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract In this article, we are interested in the skills and knowledge of French teachers recently recruited in primary schools. The knowing and knowledge required bythe teaching of French, carried out particularly by beginning teachers, indeed constitutes a major language difficulty in Tunisia, an issue to which this didactic approach wishes to make its contribution. This is an exploratory research through which we will try to provide answers on the knowing and knowledge relating to the discipline of French, the first foreign language in Tunisia. Theelements of reflection resulting from this work and thus developed relate to aresearch problem which gave rise to a field investigation with 20 teachers inpractice in governorate of the city of Mahdia - Tunisia. The teachers interviewedin this present work are part of the first promotion of the new training calledALET (Applied License in Education and Teaching) of the Higher Institute ofApplied Studies in Humanities (HIASH) of Mahdia.

- Abstract
Objective: Early detection of sickle cell disease significantly reduces sickle cell mortality, but it is not practiced in Burkina Faso where the disease is responsible for significant early mortality. The objective of the study was to analyze the relationship between this finding and the knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women with hemoglobinopathy and health workers. Materials and Methods: the study was cross-sectional and conducted in three health districts of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, from June 17 to July 31, 2019. Data were collected using a structured individual interview guide. Results: 200 pregnant women with hemoglobinopathy and 50 active health workers had participated in the study. Most women defined sickle cell disease as a bone disease, did not know its transmission mode or the hemoglobin type of their child (ren); 95,4% had never heard of neonatal screening for sickle cell disease. Health workers had limited knowledge of sickle cell disease (16-87%), and only 30% offered neonatal screening to pregnant women with hemoglobinopathy. Conclusion: the awareness of the population and training health workers on sickle cell disease, supported by a policy of good access to screening tests, would improve the prognosis of sickle cell disease in Burkina Faso. Background: The aim of this study was to document the knowledge, attitudes and practices of non-dermatologist health care workers on scabies. Method: We conducted a cross-sectional study among non-dermatologist health workers in public and private health facilities in the city of Lomé. Result: Of the 163 health workers included, 90.8% had a good knowledge of the definition of scabies; and the contributing factors (lack of hygiene, promiscuity) were known by 64.4% of the respondents. Pruritus was known as a major functional sign (92.6%) and the most cited sites of scabies lesions were the interdigital spaces (76.7%) and the buttocks (62.0%). In addition, 83.4% had already diagnosed and managed a case of scabies at least once. Topical scabicides were the most prescribed (86.5%), followed by antihistamines (54.6%); and 39.6% of respondents did not treat the patient's environment. Conclusion: The knowledge, attitudes and practices of non-dermatologist health care personnel on scabies are low. It is important to organize continuing medical education to bring them up to speed. Agnotological strategies use disinformation, hacking, cyberattacks, propaganda, fraud, gaslighting, nudging, information overload, censorship, selective secrecy, and/or access barriers to knowledge infrastructures to degrade knowledge and disable decisions of the respective targets. Manipulators aim to create a misleading, non-transparent and/or incomplete knowledge base of targets. The performance of manipulation depends crucially on the nexus of strategies and the resilience of the targets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HYPERTENSION , *PUBLIC health , *GENERAL practitioners , *PHYSICIANS' attitudes , *CALCIUM antagonists - Abstract
Hypertension is a public health problem at the national and international level because of its morbidity, mortality and management costs. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive study conducted in the PHCF in Rabat among general practitioners (GPs) providing care for hypertensive patients in order to identify their knowledge and practices. The study was conducted over a period of 6 months from March to September 2019. The objective of the study is to explore the management of hypertension by general practitioners at the level of the PHCF in Rabat with the aim of proposing avenues for improvement. A total of 77 general practitioners (GPs) participated in this study. Systematic screening for hypertension was performed by 20∕77 (27%) of the physicians participating in the study. 34∕77 (55%) GPs followed the guidelines, the rest of the GPs reported not following the guidelines due to the socio-economic level of the patients and also due to lack of training. The majority of physicians were able to define hypertension and respected the rules of blood pressure measurement, the assessment of cardiovascular risk was performed by almost all physicians but overall, without calculation with the tables. The most prescribed drugs were calcium channel blockers (45%), followed by ACE inhibitors (26%), angiotensin antagonists (23%), and diuretics (14%). The majority of GPs 92% advocated monotherapy in the first, dual therapy was indicated in case of associated risk, and if monotherapy failed, half of the physicians advocated full-dose monotherapy. This study showed that there are several problems in the management of hypertension in our health centers (eligibility, performance of the assessment required for all hypertensive patients and application of the recommended treatment, non-adherence of physicians to the guidelines). This has led to the recommendation to reinforce the continuous training of physicians, the collaboration with specialists and the availability of human and material resources. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PHARMACY students , *DRUG resistance in bacteria , *LIKERT scale , *SOCIAL networks , *DOCTORAL students , *PHARMACY colleges - Abstract
Introduction: pharmacy students are future providers of pharmaceutical care and should play a critical role in combating bacterial resistance (BR). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the knowledge and practice of students at the end of pharmacy course relating to BR and antibiotic use. Methods: we conducted a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytic study. The study population consisted of students enrolled in Master 2 and PhD in Pharmacy at the Cheikh Anta Diop University over the year 2019. Data were collected between July and October 2019 using an electronic questionnaire whose link was shared through the social network WhatsApp. Knowledge was assessed using a 5-point Likert scale while closed-ended questions were used to determine practice. Descriptive analyses were performed. Factors associated with practice were identified using logistic regression. Analyses were performed using the EPI InfoTM software 7.2.2.16. The significance threshold was set to 0.05. Results: out of 559 eligible students, 278 responded to the questionnaire, reflecting a participation rate of 60.6%. Of these, 72.3% reported having used antibiotics in the 12 months preceding the survey. Regarding knowledge, 85.6% of students surveyed had an adequate level. In addition, 38.2% of students had inadequate practice. These were associated with having a relative or friend as a health worker (OR = 1.69; p-value = 0.04), being a PhD student (OR = 0.55; p-value = 0.02) and having an insufficient level of knowledge (OR = 2.21; pvalue = 0.02). Conclusion: this study shows that antibiotic consumption is high among pharmacy students and that their practice is inadequate despite their satisfactory level of knowledge about antibiotics and BR. It is urgent to strengthen the awareness of students and their entourage about good practices concerning antibiotic use. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
