Binomials have been relatively understudied compared to other types of multiword expressions (MWEs) in second language research, such as collocations and idioms. This study investigated English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners' processing of English binomials and how it is influenced by interlexical factors (L1-L2 congruency and L1-lexicalization) and intralexical factors (word and binomial frequency, binomial reversibility, and binomial predictability). Forty Chinese EFL learners participated in a phrase acceptability judgment task of 64 target binomials (16 congruent L1-lexicalized, 16 congruent L1-nonlexicalized, and 32 incongruent) and 64 non-binomial controls. Results revealed that learners experienced difficulty judging the formulaicity of binomials. They processed binomial stimuli significantly faster than non-binomial baselines, demonstrating a binomial phrase effect. They also processed L1-L2 congruent items faster and more accurately than incongruent items, showing a robust congruency effect. The congruent items which are lexicalized in the L1 showed further processing advantage than the non-lexicalized items, indicating a graded congruency effect. Moreover, binomial reversibility and binomial predictability (measured with cloze probability) also showed significant effects. These findings highlight the need to distinguish and investigate different types of congruency, explore appropriate measures for MWE predictability, and to examine binomials focusing on their unique features. Although extensive research has been carried out on collocation processing, it is still unclear how cross-language overlap and transparency influence the processing of collocations by L2 learners. In the current study, a phrase judgment task was used to investigate the processing of congruent (i.e., exist in both English and Arabic) and incongruent collocations (i.e., exist only in English) by Arabic non-native speakers of English. The semantic transparency of the items was controlled for. Results demonstrated the effect of congruency on processing: congruent items yielded more correct responses and faster response times than incongruent items. The effect of congruency wasmodulated by proficiency, with congruency having a stronger effect on lower-proficiency learners than higher-proficiency learners. Transparency had no effect, with no differences in response times and accuracy between transparent and opaque collocations. (1) Background: This report aims to illustrate the development, progression, diagnosis, and treatment of chronically present articular surface lesions. (2) Methods: In this report, two patients are described from the point of the initial presentation of symptoms to surgical consultation based on radiologic findings. These patients underwent corrective surgery in the form of mosaicplasty to repair lesions present on the articular surface and the underlying subchondral bone. (3) Discussion: Diagnosing juvenile OCD remains challenging due to its variable clinical presentation and minute radiologic discoveries. X-rays are useful; however, the gold standard remains arthroscopy, which can be both diagnostic and therapeutic. Future prospects include the use of novel sonographic methods and the use of artificial intelligence within the given modalities. (4) Conclusions: The detailed imaging provided by MRI, combined with the insights from X-rays and potentially other modalities, allows for a nuanced understanding of this disease. The present study took L2 English learners of different levels in China as subjects to investigate the relationship between collocational familiarity and collocational frequency as well as L1-L2 congruency, and then explored the development of the above relationship as L2 proficiency develops. The results showed that: a moderate positive correlation existed between familiarity and frequency, and the correlation increased with proficiency; a moderate positive correlation also existed between familiarity and congruency, but the correlation decreased with proficiency. Based on previous studies and the present findings, the research group infer that: low familiarity collocations tend to be represented and processed in analytic way and same-translation effect helps accelerate the semantic access of congruent collocations in this process; with the increase in learners' proficiency, collocation familiarity develops from low to high with frequency effect; high familiarity collocations tend to be represented and processed in holistic way to have direct semantic access; furthermore, learners of two levels have two kinds of collocational representation and semantic access, but low-level learners show more analytic representation and indirect semantic access because of having more low familiarity collocations in the mental lexicon. Introduction: Inpatients need to recognize their fall risk accurately and objectively. Nurses need to assess how patients perceive their fall risk and identify the factors that influence patients' fall risk perception. Purpose: This study aims to explore the congruency between nurses' fall risk assessment and patients' perception of fall risk and identify factors related to the non‐congruency of fall risk. Designs: A descriptive and cross‐sectional design was used. The study enrolled 386 patients who were admitted to an acute care hospital. Six nurses assessed the participants' fall risk. Congruency was classified using the Morse Fall Scale for nurses and the Fall Risk Perception Questionnaire for patients. Findings: The nurses' fall risk assessments and patients' fall risk perceptions were congruent in 57% of the participants. Underestimation of the patient's risk of falling was associated with gender (women), long hospitalization period, department (orthopedics), low fall efficacy, and history of falls before hospitalization. Overestimation of fall risk was associated with age group, gender (men), department, and a high health literacy score. In the multiple logistic regression, the factors related to the underestimation of fall risk were hospitalization period and department, and the factors related to the overestimation of fall risk were health literacy and department. Conclusions: Nurses should consider the patient's perception of fall risk and incorporate it into fall prevention interventions. Clinical Relevance: Nurses need to evaluate whether patients perceive the risk of falling consistently. For patients who underestimate or overestimate their fall risk, it may be helpful to consider clinical and fall‐related characteristics together when evaluating their perception of fall risk. The present study aimed to explore the effects of odours, presented together with a virtual reality (V.R.) environment, on memory and numerous aspects of perception in the context of congruency vs incongruency. We examined both effects of intended manipulation of congruency (determined by a group of olfactory experts) and the manipulation check (individual perception of congruency) between V.R. environment and olfactory conditions. 100 participants watched 5 different pleasant vs unpleasant three-dimensional 360° videos, and were randomly attributed to one of 5 groups, each exposed to a specific pleasant or unpleasant odour condition. Following the presentation of each of the 5 V.R. environments, the participants responded to 9 questions assessing various aspects of each V.R. presentation. During the second test, the participants provided self-declared memory ratings and descriptions of the content of the V.R. scenes without experiencing odours or V.R. environments. Linear Mixed Model analyses revealed that intended manipulation of congruency increased some perceived positive aspects of virtual videos. However, odours that are incongruent with visual contents also enhanced positive assessment of the V.R. environments what was further noticed in case of the manipulation check. Understanding an artwork is essential for aesthetic experiences. But how does one form an understanding of art? To investigate this still poorly addressed process, we hypothesized that the easier a stimulus is processed (i.e., higher fluency), the easier it should be understood. We focused on artwork inherent features (i.e., style and content) and their interactions affect processing. Making use of the brightness–positivity association, the overall brightness of paintings (i.e., as stylistic feature) was manipulated to match their content (positive vs. negative). We hypothesized that a congruency of style and content would facilitate the processing of paintings resulting in a better understanding, but also, greater liking, and (exploratively) higher artistic value. Our data indicated no congruency effects between brightness and content, but that content alone was a strong predictor for art processing and—in an exploratory approach—highlighted the importance of individual differences in terms of art interest and knowledge in our sample. The mandate of Isabela State University is to deliver higher learning in the arts, agriculture, natural sciences, technology, and specialized disciplines. Hence, the institution executes a strategic vision, mission, goals, and objectives (VMGO) to meet the expectations of its stakeholders. This research examined the degree of stakeholders' awareness, acceptance and understanding of the Isabela State University, College of Business, Accountancy, and Public Administration's (ISU-CBAPA) VMGO; its congruence with the educational approaches of the faculty and resources of the institution in delivering quality education; and whether the program goals and objectives of the business programs were attained. A quantitative descriptive research method was used. The results indicate that the respondents are generally highly aware of the ISU-CBAPA VMGO and its dissemination. The respondents perfectly understand and accept the ISUCBAPA VMGO and highly perceive the extent of its congruence with academic strategies, practices, and activities. In addition, all respondents perceived that the ISU-CBAPA VMGO is being realized and favorably attained, despite the significant differences found. Recommendations include intensifying VMGO dissemination to external stakeholders, emphasizing VMGO commitments toward its realization, and emphasizing improvement on the students' development of professional skills, research capabilities, and competencies, and their readiness for employment and/or managing a business. The dissolution kinetics of metakaolin are examined at room temperature in NaOH solutions at concentrations of (0.1, 5, or 10) mol L−1 and at liquid-to-solid mass ratios (L/S) of 50 or 1000. Both the dissolved Si and Al concentrations as well as the morphology and structure of the solid are reported at various times. The dissolution rate is approximately constant for about an hour, (0.0043–0.1030) µmol m−2 s−1, depending on alkalinity and L/S. Some precipitates are observed within the first ten minutes but do not affect the dissolution rate during that first hour, implying that the precipitates form in the solution and do not block or alter the metakaolin surfaces significantly. The dissolution rate during the first 45 min increases with alkalinity and decreases with L/S. The metakaolin exfoliates at higher NaOH concentrations, exposing more surface area to the solution. The effect of exfoliation increases the apparent dissolution rate and promotes more congruent dissolution. These observations not only improve our understanding of the metakaolin dissolution mechanisms but also provide insights into the reactivity of calcined clays that are becoming increasingly important to the sustainability of the cement and concrete industry. Oral corrective feedback (OCF) is considered a salient pedagogical process which teachers use to assist students to enhance their language learning. Less is known about which feedback practices students prefer or consider effective for particular language learning processes. From a sociocultural perspective, this study investigated the extent of congruency between teacher practices and student preferences for OCF in Islamic Senior High Schools in Indonesia. Using a mixed-methods approach, quantitative data were collected from 444 students using a five-point Likert scale and administered across one province. Complementary data were collected from classroom observations, teacher interviews and student focus groups. The analyses of these multiple datasets illustrate that teacher practices are not congruent with student preferences for OCF. Findings show that students favour feedback on vocabulary errors, whereas in practice, teachers respond more often to pronunciation errors. Students prefer negotiated feedback, but in practice teachers mostly use clarification requests. The groups are aligned in relation to one area; students indicate a preference for teacher feedback, likewise teachers’ practice demonstrably favours teacher feedback. Pedagogically, the findings indicate a need for teachers to transform their conceptual understanding and practices of OCF to better support student collaboration and mutual meaningful scaffolding for L2 development.

Research on the interaction between object and scene processing has a long history in the fields of perception and visual memory. Most databases have established norms for pictures where the object is embedded in the scene. In this study, we provide a diverse and controlled stimulus set comprising real-world pictures of 375 objects (e.g., suitcase), 245 scenes (e.g., airport), and 898 object–scene pairs (e.g., suitcase–airport), with object and scene presented separately. Our goal was twofold. First, to create a database of object and scene pictures, normed for the same variables to have comparable measures for both types of pictures. Second, to acquire normative data for the semantic relationships between objects and scenes presented separately, which offers more flexibility in the use of the pictures and allows disentangling the processing of the object and its context (the scene). Along three experiments, participants evaluated each object or scene picture on name agreement, familiarity, and visual complexity, and rated object–scene pairs on semantic congruency. A total of 125 septuplets of one scene and six objects (three congruent, three incongruent), and 120 triplets of one object and two scenes (in congruent and incongruent pairings) were built. In future studies, these objects and scenes can be used separately or combined, while controlling for their key features. Additionally, as object–scene pairs received semantic congruency ratings along the entire scale, researchers may select among a wide range of congruency values. The availability of a first language translation equivalent (i.e., congruency) has repeatedly been shown to influence second-language collocation processing in decontextualized tasks. However, no study to date has examined how L2 speakers process congruent/incongruent collocations on-line in a real-world context. The present study aimed to fill this gap by examining the eye-movement behavior of 31 Arabic-English speakers and 30 native English speakers as they read 20 congruent and 20 incongruent collocations (in addition to 40 control phrases) in short contexts. The study also examined possible modulating effects of proficiency level and transparency on congruency effects. Results showed that non-natives (similar to native speakers) showed a processing advantage for collocations over control phrases. However, there was no effect of congruency (i.e., no difference between congruent and incongruent collocations) for either group, and no modulating effect of proficiency or transparency on congruency. This research provides compelling evidence that consumer reactions toward symbolically incongruent brand behaviors depend on their level of self‐brand connection. It challenges the conventional belief that high self‐brand connection works as a protecting shield for brands and reveals that consumers with higher (vs. lower) self‐brand connection react more negatively toward symbolically incongruent brand behaviors because they feel betrayed by the brand. The results unveil that a sense of betrayal can be incited, when a brand's behavior is symbolically incongruent with its established meaning. This pattern of consumer responses is consistent across four experimental studies, which involved a diverse sample of 563 participants from different countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Spain and used various product categories. The results consistently show that individuals with high self‐brand connection display an increased intention to engage in negative word of mouth, along with a decline in their brand attitudes and purchase intentions, driven by feelings of betrayal. This effect is further intensified for consumers with higher self‐enhancement need. It is worth noting that prior literature on betrayal has often linked such feelings to more significant transgressions and behaviors with immoral connotations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Second language (L2) research has extensively examined various factors that might influence the processing and learning of collocations, including congruency, semantic transparency, L2 proficiency, and (to a limited extent) directionality. However, research examining the effect of these factors on the natural rendering of collocations by translation trainees is scarce. The present study aims to apply the factors identified in L2 research in a natural translation context. The aim is to examine whether such factors may influence rendering collocations naturally from the source language to the target language. Ninety‐two Arabic–English translator trainees took part in the study. They translated short equivalent passages containing 40 collocations in both directions (Arabic—English and English—Arabic). A mixed‐effects model was fit to examine factors that may predict the production of a natural collocation: translation direction, L1 congruency, semantic transparency, and proficiency. Results showed no differences between the production of natural collocations to and from the native language. However, there was a significant effect of congruency and semantic transparency; congruent collocations and collocations that had a transparent meaning were more likely to be rendered naturally. Moreover, estimated proficiency level in English modulated congruency effects in that the difference between congruent and incongruent items declined as estimated proficiency increased. Results of the present study suggest that second language models and translation models should incorporate semantic transparency of collocations. It is also possible to achieve a significant contribution by investing in the pristine sector of mystical tourism and create an authentic Iranian mystical cultural space. Considering the characteristic of a mystical tourist, which is generally spiritual and cognitive issues, gaining inner peace and the meaning of existence, it should be taken into consideration in branding a mystical destination. For this reason, this research tries to investigate The effect of visiting the mystical destination brand on love and fascination with the destination brand. In addition, the cultural destination of tourism can be created with a strong relationship between tourism and culture. Attarnishaburi tomb is one of the potential tourist areas that has the ability to attract tourists at the national and international level with unique historical, cultural, and religious features. The current research was conducted on the people who visited the tomb of Atar Neishaburi in the winter of 1400. Among the current population, 348 people were selected as a research sample based on Cochran's formula with the available sampling method. Statistical calculations were performed by SPSS and Amos software, and the structural equation modeling method was used to check the conceptual model of the research. The findings of the research indicate that brand awareness in mystical tourism according to the criteria of expectation from the brand, consumer brand allocation, secrets, sensitivity to the brand, intimacy and interest in the brand, respect for the brand, in terms of the fit of the tourist with The destination brand creates a positive and meaningful impact. The presence of an important relationship between tourists and the brand, with enjoyable experiences gained from the brand, creates more trust in the brand. The experiences created in connection with the brand can have potential positive effects on trust and satisfaction with the brand. One of the most important tasks of brand managers is to understand a set of associations around the brand because it can be valuable in the brand.

The purpose of this study was to explore the difference between congruency and incongruency of the first metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint in hallux valgus using weightbearing CT (WBCT) and to identify the risk factors for incongruency. From January 2019 to January 2021, WBCT scans were retrospectively analyzed for 110 (191 feet) consecutive patients. According to whether the metatarsal articular surface and phalanx articular surface were parallel, they were divided into congruency (73 feet) and incongruency groups (118 feet). The age, intermetatarsal angle (IMA), hallux valgus angle (HVA), distal metatarsal articular surface angle (DMAA), first metatarsal coronal pronation angle (α angle), tibial sesamoid 7 positions (TSP), and tibial sesamoid coronal grading (TSCG) were compared between the 2 groups. Binary logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of incongruency. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was applied to determine the cutoff value. There were significant differences in IMA, HVA, DMAA, α angle, age, TSP, and TSCG between congruency and incongruency groups (p <.05). Binary logistic regression analysis showed that TSCG, HVA, α angle were the influencing factors of incongruency. ROC curve analysis demonstrated that the cutoff values for incongruency were 1 position for TSCG (sensitivity: 0.835; specificity: 0.884) with the area under curve (AUC) of 0.892, 30° (sensitivity: 0.795; specificity: 0.812) for HVA with the AUC of 0.878, and 24° (sensitivity: 0.530; specificity: 0.797) for α angle with the AUC of 0.686. Incongruency of the first MTP joint indicated a more severe hallux valgus, and was associated with increased HVA, α angle, and TSCG. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

People well known to the general public are increasingly acting as business angels (BAs) for young and innovative ventures worldwide. These BAs are less known for their venture evaluation skills and often do not have a professional reputation as investors. The signaling function of these well-known investors could therefore be less relevant for founders because of a limited quality assurance function. Nonetheless, a venture's affiliation with a well-known BA may still positively alter the quality perceptions of various stakeholders because the BAs can put their reputation in other areas of life at risk, provide an easy-to-interpret and fluent cue to the general public, and improve the observability of the signal. Using a sample of more than 2,900 early-stage ventures that made a venture pitch during the Canadian, German, U.K., and U.S. versions of the reality TV show Dragons' Den, we find that BAs' degree of being known has a positive impact on target firm survival, web traffic, and sales. The impact of BAs' general degree of being known is particularly strong if the congruency between the investors and the target ventures is high. These effects exist over and above potential selection effects, the professional reputation of the BA, and the greater financial resources of a funded venture. The empirical findings indicate that well-known BAs can have a positive effect on venture performance and that founders should consider not only the professional reputation of BAs but also the degree to which they are known to a general audience. People process stimuli that have been arbitrarily associated with the self versus with a stranger preferentially, but congruence effects can modulate self-prioritization, as when the self is paired with, for example, symmetrical versus asymmetrical stimuli. In two experiments, we examined the interaction of self-prioritization with number magnitude when participants associated the self or a stranger with specific number symbols such as "2" presented as natural, negative, and ordinal number types (Experiment 1), or abstract numeric concepts, such as "larger than 5" (Experiment 2). Empathy and personal distance were also assessed. While self-prioritization emerged in both experiments, number type (natural, ordinal, and negative) had no effect on performance. Furthermore, correlations with empathy and personal distance did not emerge consistently. An interaction between number magnitude and self-assignment was observed for the magnitude comparison matching task (e.g., >5) (Experiment 2), but not in the specific number (e.g., "8") matching task (Experiment 1). The null interaction may reflect the fact that encoding symbol identity, but not number magnitude, was sufficient for the symbol-matching task. The order of numbers and self-associations also had an effect. In sum, this study is the first to show that self-prioritization emerges for symbolic numbers and can even occur with abstract categories, such as a range of numbers (e.g., >5). Furthermore, congruence effects between number concepts and labels (e.g., for the stranger, less is better) may also affect performance. However, this would appear to depend on the task context, such as whether numeric magnitude was needed to complete the task. Public Significance Statement: This study demonstrates self-prioritization when the self or a stranger is paired with symbolic numbers or more complex arithmetic concepts such as "larger than 5," highlighting the ubiquity of self-prioritization effects even in highly specialized processes like numeric cognition. In lexicon studies, L1-L2 congruency refers to the similarity in form and meaning of the way a word or phrase is said between two languages. If there is low L1-L2 congruency, the learning burden of a word or phrase can be higher. For example, an unacceptable structure could be produced when L2 (second language) learners directly use translation strategy to formulate English multiword units (MWUs). Thus, it would be ideal if such language items were identified and teachers brought students’ attention to them. This current study will use L1-L2 congruency as a criterion to identify English MWUs with low congruency with their Persian equivalents to create a resource for Persian-speaking English learners. A L1-L2 contrastive analysis was conducted on Rogers’ (2017) list of approximately 11,000 high-frequency MWUs. This list was translated, and the items were given ratings regarding their congruency in Persian. The results revealed that more than 60 per cent of the items examined were incongruent with their translations, demonstrating that L1-L2 congruency is a significant factor in selecting MWUs for Persian-speaking English learners. Thus, this study indicates that to avoid errors in MWU production, focusing on incongruent items may be beneficial for such learners.

IntroductionPeople accumulate knowledge throughout their lifespan and the accumulated knowledge influences how we encode and retrieve information in memory processing. This study aims to investigate the role of knowledge in associative memory across the adult lifespan, and specifically examines the effects of two material properties that interact with prior knowledge: congruency - whether the material is congruent with people's prior knowledge, and ambiguity - whether the material is ambiguous to interpret based on prior knowledge.Method273 participants (aged 22-70 years old) completed an incidental memory task online. Participants were shown pictures depicting an object in a scene and judged if the object was likely or unlikely to be in the particular scene. Later, in the recognition test, participants were asked to identify if the exact picture was presented earlier. The pictures were manipulated to have varying levels of congruency, meaning that some depicted likely object-scene pairs and some unlikely. We also measured how different the likely/unlikely judgment for each object-scene pair was across all participants to determine the ambiguity level of the object-scene pair: some were more likely to receive diverse responses across people, whereas others are unambiguously consistent (or inconsistent) with common knowledge shared by most people. We used mixed-effects logistic regressions to predict memory outcome for each trial as a function of age, age2, congruency/ambiguity, and their interactions.ResultsThe object-scene pairs perceived as congruent had higher hit rates than incongruent ones, as well as higher false alarm rates, especially in middle-aged and older people. Higher ambiguity was also related to both greater true and false memory, independent of age. Finally, the effect of ambiguity only emerged when the object-scene pair was perceived incongruent.DiscussionThe results suggest that people rely on prior knowledge to process new information and that this reliance improves hit responses, but also induces false memories particularly for middle-aged and older people, suggesting a double-edged role of knowledge in associative memory and its disproportionate influence on memory aging. Over-reliance on knowledge in older adults, which has been suspected in other cognitive processes, may be one of the mechanisms underlying associative memory decrease in aging.

The hub‐and‐spoke model of semantic cognition proposes that conceptual representations in a heteromodal 'hub' interact with and emerge from modality‐specific features or 'spokes', including valence (whether a concept is positive or negative), along with visual and auditory features. As a result, valence congruency might facilitate our ability to link words conceptually. Semantic relatedness may similarly affect explicit judgements about valence. Moreover, conflict between meaning and valence may recruit semantic control processes. Here we tested these predictions using two‐alternative forced‐choice tasks, in which participants matched a probe word to one of two possible target words, based on either global meaning or valence. Experiment 1 examined timed responses in healthy young adults, while Experiment 2 examined decision accuracy in semantic aphasia patients with impaired controlled semantic retrieval following left hemisphere stroke. Across both experiments, semantically related targets facilitated valence matching, while related distractors impaired performance. Valence congruency was also found to facilitate semantic decision‐making. People with semantic aphasia showed impaired valence matching and had particular difficulty when semantically related distractors were presented, suggesting that the selective retrieval of valence information relies on semantic control processes. Taken together, the results are consistent with the hypothesis that automatic access to the global meaning of written words affects the processing of valence, and that the valence of words is also retrieved even when this feature is task‐irrelevant, affecting the efficiency of global semantic judgements. Studies suggest that not only words per se but also surrounding contexts play significant roles in foreign language vocabulary retention. This study investigated how different conditions of lexical and contextual emotional valence differently affect foreign language vocabulary retention. The target words were either positive (LexVal+), neutral (LexVal=), or negative (LexVal−) in meaning. Each visually enhanced target word was embedded in a sentence either positive (CtxVal+), neutral (CtxVal=), or negative (CtxVal−) in meaning. Sentences with different combinations of lexical valence and contextual valence were presented in the Study Session, which were later incidentally recalled in the Test Session. It was revealed that positive and negative words were remembered more often than neutral words and that negative contexts resulted in better retention of the embedded words than neutral contexts. These findings are in accordance with the predictions of the emotionally enhanced memory, the Emotion-Involved Processing Hypothesis, and the role of affect in the Modular Cognition Framework. Further, even if the target item is not emotional, embedding it in emotional context may result in better retention, a finding with potential pedagogical implications. Interestingly, words embedded in emotionally congruent contexts were not learned better than those in incongruent contexts, a finding contrary to expectation. The race to capture consumers' attention has rapidly increased in the past years. Besides the importance of the channels, the elements composing an ad are as crucial as ever in promoting compelling messages relevant to the target group. Music is one of the mechanisms through which the interest of consumers can be aroused while enhancing the advertising message and giving it more nuance. There have been several attempts to understand advertising music better, but most of the works focus on individual dimensions. There is a need to understand advertising music choices more coherently and complexly. The present study aims to provide a comprehensive instrument of several items that help understand musical congruency within an ad. The paper provides a content analysis of 95 global musical ads for 2019-2022. The primary product/service categories are reviewed, and the dimensions used in the analysis present the essential aspects of musical congruency, underlining the importance of original music composed for the ads, the capacity to adapt to various music sources, and giving additional importance to elements such as pitch, dynamics, and tempo. This research evaluated the level of awareness, acceptance, and congruence with the Vision, Mission, and Goals (VMGO) and Program Outcomes of the College of Education at Capiz State University (CAPSU). It adopted a mixed-method research design, utilizing a descriptive-quantitative approach, with both internal and external stakeholders of CAPSU as the primary data source. Through a survey questionnaire employing a five-point Likert scale, this study measures stakeholders' awareness, acceptability, and congruence with CapSU's VMG and the program outcomes of the College of Education. The gathered data were analyzed using weighted mean, T-test, and Pearson Correlation via SPSS software (version 20). Findings suggest a high level of awareness and acceptance of CAPSU's VMGO among internal and external stakeholders, and a high congruence between the VMGO and actual educational practices. Interestingly, external stakeholders showed moderate acceptance of the College of Education's program outcomes. No significant difference was found between internal and external stakeholders' levels of awareness and acceptance, nor any correlation among these variables. The study concludes by highlighting the necessity for continuous efforts to enhance stakeholders' awareness, acceptance, and congruence with the VMGO and program outcomes. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of stakeholder involvement in any revision process related to the VMGO. Previous research about learning new meanings for known words in second language (L2) has found that semantic relatedness, i.e., congruency, between new and existing meanings benefits encoding and explicit memory of new meanings, and reduces instant interference on accessing existing meanings. However, they did not take the memory consolidation process into account. Thus, integration of new meaning into long‐term semantic memory, update of existing meaning representation, and the impact of semantic relatedness between new and existing meanings in this process remain unclear. The present study used the event‐related potential (ERP) technique to explore these questions. We asked Chinese students to learn English known words' subdominant meanings variedly related to existing meanings and probed semantic representations with EEG recorded in primed lexical decision tasks four times before and after consolidation. We found that new meaning needs to go through offline consolidation to get integrated. Semantic relatedness/congruency boosted new meaning integration, not by directly expediting it during encoding or preliminary offline consolidation, but by promoting the update of existing meaning representation first, which presumably paved the way for better incorporation of new meaning in the long run. The whole pattern of results implies that long‐term semantic representation of existing meaning is updated to integrate related new meaning after consolidation, which not only draws a clearer picture of L2 ambiguous word acquisition but also bears broader implications for research on memory updating. Our findings advance the understanding of second language ambiguous word acquisition by probing long‐term semantic representations using event‐related potentials (ERPs). We found that new meanings had to go through offline consolidation for integration, and semantic relatedness/congruency boosted new meaning integration by promoting the updating of existing meaning representations. The heuristic approach to decision-making holds that the selection process becomes more efficient when part of the information available is ignored. One element involved in selecting information is emotional valence. If emotional congruency is related to simplified decision-making strategies, then the interaction of this factor with task complexity should exist. The present study explored how factors of this nature influence decision-making efficiency. We hypothesized that emotional congruency would have a positive effect on task execution and that the magnitude of that effect would increase with greater task complexity because in that condition the amount of information to be processed is greater, meaning that a heuristic approach to the problem would be more efficient. We design a decision in browser decision-making task in which participants had to select emotional images to gain points. Depending on the correlation between emotional valence and in-task image value, we defined three emotional congruency conditions: direct, null, and inverse. Our results show that distinct types of emotional congruency have differential effects on behavior. While direct congruency-enhanced overall decision-making performance, inverse congruency interacted with task complexity to modify the pace at which task feedback affected behavior. This study investigates whether incongruency of valences betweenemoji and text in texting will promote stronger negative inference inreaders. An experiment assessed participants’ judgments of the textmessages by recording their response times and perceived valencefrom the messages (either positive or negative) under the followingmanipulations: positive or negative messages paired with an emojithat convey positive, negative or ambiguous/neutral emotions (i.e.the pairing of emojis and test may be congruent or incongruent intheir valences). Compared with congruent text messages, we foundthat incongruency between emojis and texts promoted strongernegative inference and elicited a longer processing time, even intexts that conveyed a positive meaning or when the emoji itself wasambiguous/neutral. These results suggest that texts and emojisjointly influence the perceived mood of messages, hinting theimportance of the effective use of emojis in order to convey intendedmeanings and emotions efficiently.

Although we have access to a number of critical editions of Attār's works, there still remain some problematic and ambiguous points in his works that cannot be clarified merely based on the codicological details. To elucidate such matters, it is indispensable to analyze closely the different aspects of Attār's style based on the authentic documents to discover the general patterns. In this study, we deal with some of the symmetrical patterns recurring throughout all the layers (from the verses to the whole work) of Attār's original poems. These patterns are classified into four main groups including repetition, parallelism, congruency, and a particular recurrent structure. The study of these symmetrical patterns, combined with the other stylistic and codicological details, can help us with evaluating the authenticity of some of the confusing parts in Attār's works.

In many tasks humans can trade speed against accuracy. This variation of strategy has different consequences for congruency effects in different conflict tasks. Recently, Mittelstädt et al. (2022) suggested that these differences are related to the dynamics of congruency effects as assessed by delta plots. With increasing delta plots in the Eriksen flanker task congruency effects were larger under accuracy set, and with decreasing delta plots in the Simon task they were smaller. Here we tested the hypothesis for a single task, making use of the observation that for the Simon task delta plots decline when the irrelevant feature is presented first, but increase when the relevant feature leads. The differences between congruency effects under speed and accuracy instructions confirmed the hypothesized relation to the slope of delta plots. In fact, for similar delta plots in the compared speed-accuracy conditions, the relation should be a straightforward consequence of the shorter and longer reaction times with speed and accuracy set, respectively. However, when relevant and irrelevant features were presented simultaneously, congruency effects were stronger under speed set at all reaction times. For this condition, a supplementary model-based analysis with an extended leaky, competing accumulator model suggested a stronger and longerlasting influence of the irrelevant stimulus feature. Background: A greater congruency of audio and video expands the temporal binding window (TBW). A similar phenomenon may occur with a combination of odor and taste, which are the main components of flavor. Objective: TBW is defined as the temporal resolution of synchrony perception. The larger the TBW, the lower the resolution. We hypothesized that the more congruent the odor and taste, the lower the temporal resolution of synchrony perception. Methods: To examine this hypothesis, 10 female participants performed simultaneity judgment (SJ) tasks under congruent (soy sauce odor with saline) and incongruent (cherry tree leaf odor with saline) conditions and evaluated the congruency with saltiness for the two odors. In the SJ tasks, participants reported whether odor and taste were presented simultaneously or successively. We assumed a Gaussian distribution for the temporal distributions of the simultaneous response rates and calculated the approximations. In addition, we computed the half width at half height (HWHH) as an index of TBW based on the coefficient of approximation for the temporal distribution of the simultaneous response rates. Results: HWHH was significantly larger under congruent condition than under incongruent condition. In addition, congruency with saltiness had a significant moderate positive correlation with HWHH. Conclusion: The larger the HWHH, the lower the temporal resolution of synchrony perception, supporting the hypothesis. This study suggests that the width of TBW depends on the cross‐modal congruency similar to the case for audio–visual SJs. However, methodological improvements, including a larger sample size and gender‐independent recruitment of participants, are essential to enhance the reliability of the findings because some of the results did not provide sufficient ESs or power. In second language learning research, L1-L2 congruency refers to the similarity in form and meaning of the way a word or phrase is said between two languages. If there is low L1-L2 congruency, the learning burden of a word or phrase can be higher, and thus, such items should be focused on more in teaching to help learners avoid errors. For example, an unacceptable structure could be produced when second language learners use direct or literal translation to formulate multiword units (MWUs) in the target language. This study used L1-L2 congruency as a criterion to identify English MWUs with low congruency with their Persian equivalents to create a resource for Persian-speaking English learners. An L1-L2 contrastive analysis was conducted on a list of approximately 11,000 high-frequency MWUs. This list was translated, and the items were given ratings regarding their congruency in Persian. The results revealed that more than 65% of the items examined were incongruent with their word-for-word translations, demonstrating that L1-L2 congruency is a significant factor in selecting MWUs for Persian-speaking English learners. Since focusing on incongruent items may help learners avoid errors, the results of this study can help improve the efficacy of English acquisition by Persian-speaking learners through its identification of particular MWUs that have low congruency between the two languages. Collocational competence is of critical importance to EFL learners' language proficiency. Due to limited research on L1 influence on L2 learners' development of receptive and productive knowledge of adjective + noun collocations, especially in the context of Vietnam, this study is an attempt to address these gaps by investigating whether Vietnamese learners could recognize and use congruent English adjective + noun collocations more accurately than incongruent ones. Data were collected from 72 English-major undergraduates in a Vietnamese university who completed three types of collocational tests: the Receptive Knowledge Test, the Productive Knowledge Test, and the paragraph-writing test. Results showed that, in contrast to language transfer theory, congruent collocations posed considerably more problems for the students in identifying the well-formed lexical combinations and using them accurately in writing. The congruency (or Stroop) effect is a standard observation of slower and less accurate colour identification to incongruent trials (e.g. "red" in green) relative to congruent trials (e.g. "red" in red). This effect has been observed in a word–word variant of the task, when both the distracter (e.g. "red") and target (e.g. "green") are colour words. The Stroop task has also been used to study the congruency effect between two languages in bilinguals. The typical finding is that the congruency effect for L1 words is larger than that for L2 words. For the first time, the present report aims to extend this finding to a word–word variant of the bilingual Stroop task. In two experiments, French monolinguals performed a bilingual word–word Stroop task in which target word language, language match, and congruency between the distracter and target were manipulated. The critical manipulation across two experiments concerned the target language. In Experiment 1, target language was manipulated between groups, with either French (L1) or English (L2) target colour words. In Experiment 2, target words from both languages were intermixed. In both experiments, the congruency effect was larger when the distracter and target were from the same language (language match) than when they were from different languages (language mismatch). Our findings suggested that this congruency effect mostly depends on the language match between the distracter and target, rather than on a target language. It also did not seem to matter whether the language-mismatching distracter was or was not a potential response alternative. Abstract Background Congruency of the first metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint is extremely important for the selection of surgical methods and prognosis, while radiographic evaluation methods are relatively lacking. The purpose of this article was to explore radiographic indicators for evaluating congruency of the first MTP joint. Methods We selected patients with hallux valgus who had a weightbearing X-ray in the outpatient system and measured their hallux valgus angle (HVA). In total, 183 cases of 245 feet with HVA greater than 15° were selected. The distal metatarsal articular angle (DMAA), metatarsophalangeal joint angle (MTPJA), congruency index (CI) and tibial sesamoid position (TSP) were measured and statistically analysed. Results The higher the degree of hallux valgus was, the higher the proportion of incongruency of the first MTP joint. Significant differences were found in the DMAA, MTPJA and CI between the congruency and incongruency groups of patients with moderate-to-severe hallux valgus (P 0.05). However, the MTPJA and CI were 0.906 and 0.884, the sensitivity values reached 0.791 and 0.949, the specificity values were 0.862 and 0.644, and the critical values were 10.67 and 0.765, respectively. The correlation test indicated that in the congruency group, the DMAA and HVA were positively correlated, but the MTPJA, CI and HVA had low correlation coefficients. This narrative historical review examines the wide range of approaches that has been trialled/suggested in order to reduce the consumption of salt. While sodium is an essential micronutrient, there is widespread evidence that high levels of consumption are leading to various negative health outcomes. This review summarises the evidence relating to the various approaches that have been put forward to date to help reduce salt consumption over the years, while also highlighting a number of important questions that remains for future research. Solutions to reducing salt consumption include everything from the gradual reduction in salt in foods through to the reduction in the number/size of holes in saltshakers (what one might consider a behavioural nudge). Physico-chemical solutions have included salt replacers, such as monosodium glutamate (MSG) through to the asymmetric distribution of salt in processed (e.g., layered) foods. A wide range of sensory approaches to modulating expected and perceived saltiness have also been suggested, including the use of salty aromas, as well as suggesting the use of colour cues, sonic seasoning, and even textural primes. It is currently unclear whether different salty aromas can be combined to increase odour-induced taste enhancement (OITE) effectiveness. Simple Summary: Radiographic diagnosis is essential for the genetic control of canine hip dysplasia (HD). The Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) scoring HD scheme is based on objective and qualitative radiographic criteria. Subjective interpretations can lead to errors in diagnosis and, consequently, to incorrect selective breeding, which in turn impacts the gene pool of dog breeds. The aim of this study was to use a computer method to calculate the Hip Congruency Index (HCI) to objectively estimate radiographic hip congruency for future application in the development of computer vision models capable of classifying canine HD. The HCI measures the percentage of acetabular coverage that is occupied by the femoral head. Normal hips are associated with an even, parallel joint surface that translates into reduced acetabular free space, which increases with hip subluxation and becomes maximal in hip dislocation. We found statistically significant differences in mean HCI values among all five FCI categories. These results demonstrate that the HCI reliably reflects the different degrees of congruency associated with HD. Therefore, it is expected that when used in conjunction with other HD evaluation parameters, such as Norberg angle and assessment of osteoarthritic signs, it can improve the diagnosis by making it more accurate and unequivocal. Accurate radiographic screening evaluation is essential in the genetic control of canine HD, however, the qualitative assessment of hip congruency introduces some subjectivity, leading to excessive variability in scoring. The main objective of this work was to validate a method-Hip Congruency Index (HCI)-capable of objectively measuring the relationship between the acetabulum and the femoral head and associating it with the level of congruency proposed by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI), with the aim of incorporating it into a computer vision model that classifies HD autonomously. A total of 200 dogs (400 hips) were randomly selected for the study. All radiographs were scored in five categories by an experienced examiner according to FCI criteria. Two examiners performed HCI measurements on 25 hip radiographs to study intra- and inter-examiner reliability and agreement. Additionally, each examiner measured HCI on their half of the study sample (100 dogs), and the results were compared between FCI categories. The paired t-test and the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) showed no evidence of a systematic bias, and there was excellent reliability between the measurements of the two examiners and examiners' sessions. Hips that were assigned an FCI grade of A (n = 120), B (n = 157), C (n = 68), D (n = 38) and E (n = 17) had a mean HCI of 0.739 ± 0.044, 0.666 ± 0.052, 0.605 ± 0.055, 0.494 ± 0.070 and 0.374 ± 0.122, respectively (ANOVA, p < 0.01). Therefore, these results show that HCI is a parameter capable of estimating hip congruency and has the potential to enrich conventional HD scoring criteria if incorporated into an artificial intelligence algorithm competent in diagnosing HD. Purpose: Congruency of the proximal radioulnar joint (PRUJ) is important in the rotation of the forearm while any compromise would significantly impair the elbow function. The purpose of this study is to determine the morphological features of the radial head and investigate its role in the congruency of the PRUJ during forearm rotation. The hypothesis is that the PRUJ is more congruent in the maximal pronation and supination positions than in the neutral position., Methods: Thirty sets of computed tomography images of the elbow were acquired, and a three-dimensional model of the proximal radius and ulna was generated. The radius of curvature of the radial head and the radial head at the maximal pronation, neutral positions and maximal supination were calculated and compared with a one-way analysis of variance., Results: The point on the radial head contacting the middle point of radial head at the maximal pronation and supination was located at the ends of the semi-major axis of the ellipse, while it was located at one end of the semi-minor axis at neutral position. The radii of curvature of the pronation, neutral and supination points of the radial head were 14.72 ± 1.51, 9.74 ± 1.49 and 14.58 ± 1.70 mm, respectively. We have a great capacity to remember a large number of items, yet memory is selective. While multiple factors dictate why we remember some things and not others, it is increasingly acknowledged that some objects are more memorable than others. Recent studies show semantically distinctive objects are better remembered, as are objects located in expected scene contexts. However, we know little about how object semantics and context interact to facilitate memory. Here we test the intriguing hypothesis that these factors have complementary benefits for memory. Participants rated the congruency of object-scene pairs, followed by a surprise memory test. We show that object memory is best predicted by semantic familiarity when an object-scene pairing was congruent, but when object-scene pairings were incongruent, semantic statistics have an especially prominent impact.
