Background: Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) 6 and 11 are most commonly detected in genital warts, known as condyloma acuminata. Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most frequent vaginal infection in women aged 15 to 44 years. There may be an association between condyloma acuminata and BV. Purpose : To report a case of condyloma accuminata in a pregnant patient with combination bacterial vaginosis. Case: A 24-year-old, 8-week pregnant woman came to the clinic with a chief complaint of multiple warts in the genital area since 3 months prior to the hospital visit. The bumps on the vulva were small, and at first only one but then spread to surrounding areas. The bumps were itchy and painful. Complaints of vaginal discharge or fluor albus of yellowish-white gray color, accompanied by itchy and a fishy odor that appeared three months ago and worsened in the last two weeks. Examination results led to the diagnosis of condyloma acuminata and BV in the patient. The patient's condition improved after being given 90% trichloroacetic acid (TCA), electrocautery, and metronidazole. Discussion: Pregnancy decreases cell-mediated immunity, which may decrease immune tolerance and local physiologic changes and ultimately increase HPV infection in pregnancy. HPV infection is associated with a vaginal microbiota imbalance, making pregnant women prone to vaginal infections such as BV. Conclusion: Condyloma accuminata and BV often occur in high-risk groups for sexually transmitted infections, one of which is pregnant women. It is necessary to screen for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in pregnant women to prevent complications.

Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common viral infection of the reproductive tract in women and men. Although most HPV infections resolve spontaneously, persistent infections can lead to precancerous lesions and cancer of the cervix, vagina, vulva, anus and penis. HPV related cancers accounted for an estimated 4.5% of all cancers worldwide in 2012. Objective: To describe the patients' demographic features, clinical presentations, sexual aspects, and possible risk factors of codyloma accuminata among female patients treated at Dermatology, venereology and Andrology outpatient clinics of Ain Shams University hospitals and Al-Houd Al-Mrsoud hospital, Cairo, Egypt. Patients and Methods: This prospective cross sectional clinical study was conducted on 500 female patients aged above 18 years old with condyloma accuminata. Results: Most of the studied patients (71.2%)gave a history of no condom use, (13.7%) of patients gave history of occasional condom use while the rest 7.5% weren't sexually active. Most of the patients (61.3%) gave a history of cryotherapy, (8.6%) patients gave a history of chemical cautery, (4.5%) patients gave a history of electro surgery and (2.1%) patients gave a history of immunotherapy. Among the studied patients those had chemical cautery as a treatment modality had the highest recurrence rate. Conclusion: The main risk factors for condyloma accuminata are young age, unprotected sexual intercourse, multiple sex partners and lower socioeconomic and educational levels. Smoking or alcohol together with immunosuppressive medications and chronic diseases as well as other STDs are possible risk factors. History of medical intervention as laser hair removal of genital area, colonoscopy and vaginal ultrasound could play a role in condyloma accuminata transmission in non-sexual active women. Bleomycin is an antineoplastic agent, which is used off label for various dermatologic conditions. There are numerous reports on the use of intralesional bleomycin (ILB) for the treatment of common warts. However, reports on the efficacy of bleomycin in the treatment of anogenital warts (AGWs) are still limited. The aim is to compare the efficacy/tolerability and recurrence rates of AGW treatment with ILB versus cryotherapy. In this prospective study, 50 patients with AGWs were assigned either to receive triple freeze-thaw cycle of cryotherapy or to receive 1.5 mg/mL ILB for a maximum of four sessions with 3-week intervals. Clinical efficacy was determined by the percentage of the patients with complete clearance. The patients with complete clearance were visited by passing 3 months from the last treatment session to evaluate any recurrence. Of 44 patients completing the study, 16 of 21 (76.19%) patients in the ILB group and 15 of 23 (65.22%) patients in the cryotherapy group showed complete resolution (p value = .425). Moreover, recurrence occurred after 3 months in 18.75% and 46.66% of the ILB and the cryotherapy groups' patients, respectively (p value = .096). The most common local adverse events in both treatment groups were pain, dyspigmentation, and ulceration/erosion, while the delayed ulceration and secondary infection were only observed in the bleomycin group. Intralesional bleomycin is as effective as cryotherapy in the treatment of AGWs, but it is more invasive and associated with post-treatment pain, the delayed ulceration, and cutaneous infection. Intralesional bleomycin is not accompanied with the major risk of necrosis or fibrosis, so the use of ILB in the anogenital area is likely to be safe.This clinical trial was registered in Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials site with code: IRCT20190519043631N1. Introduction: Genital warts are the most common sexually transmitted disease that has a negative impact on the quality of life. Therefore, we decided to carry out the first study on this topic in the Czech Republic. Objective: Using the SF-36 questionnaire to compare the quality of life between women with genital warts and women without genital warts. Methods: Data collection took place in 2016 and 2017 at selected gynecological outpatient clinics. 60 women from the target group (with genital warts) and 66 women from the control group (healthy women) participated in the research. The measuring tools were SF-36 (Short Form-36) and CECA10 (Cuestionario Especifico en Condilomas Acuminados). Data were evaluated using some elements of descriptive statistics, two-sample Mann-Whitney U-test and chi-square. Results: There was a statistically significant difference in most dimensions and overall SF-36 index (p < 0.05). The mean CECA4 score was 10.88 ± 4.34 and CECA6 was 18.20 ± 7.33. The overall score of the CECA10 questionnaire was 29.08 ± 9.64. Wart size, location, disease duration and relapses are factors that have a negative impact on the quality of life of women with genital warts. Conclusions: We found that genital warts adversely affect the quality of life of a selected population of Czech women. The impact of warts is also manifested in their sexual and emotional life. The treatment of genital warts needs to be approached comprehensively. Patients should also be offered the care of a psychologist and sexologist. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Study objective. The study aims at evaluating the efficacy of combined administration of imiquimod 5% cr me and human papillomavirus (HPV) quadrivalent recombinant vaccine in order to achieve a long-term clinical remission in patients with chronic HPV infection manifested in condyloma accuminata of the anogenital area. Materials and Methods. The study enrolled 36 subjects aged 26.4 (4.1) years (including 22 men) with 1 to 5 condyloma accuminata of the anogenital area. Study participants were vaccinated with human papillomavirus quadrivalent recombinant vaccine using a 0 - 2 - 6 month regimen with concomitant administration of imiquimod 5% cr me applied 3 times per week for not more than 16 weeks. Results. Complete disappearance of condyloma accuminata was observed in 34 out of 36 subjects (94.4%) after one year from the start of treatment. Two patients still having condyloma accuminata of the anogenital area after one year of combination treatment underwent a successful course of treatment with solcoderm (one patient for 1 year 3 months and the other for 1 year 4 months) that resulted in complete disappearance of condyloma accuminata. Within the 1 year 6 month period no recurrence of condyloma accuminata of the anogenital area has been observed. Conclusion. Vaccination with human papillomavirus quadrivalent recombinant vaccine along with concomitant use of imiquimod 5% cr me enables to achieve a long-term clinical remission in patients with chronic HPV infection manifesting in condyloma accuminata of the anogenital area, in at least 94.4% of patients followed up for 1 year 6 months.

Perianal mimicker papular skin lesion in children is rare when the real cause cannot be found or justified. I report a young 4-year-old black Libyan girl who complaint of multiple itchy skin-colored nodules for the past 1 year around only the anus and increasing as her mother declared. Cutaneous examination revealed multiple, 0.5–1 cm flat-topped dry papules, at the perianal area not extending up to the labia majora. On histology marked focal epidermal hyperplasia and hyperkeratosis in the epidermis was seen. This confirmed the diagnosis of one condition stated in the literature called perianal pseudoverrucous papules and nodule. This rare condition can be mistaken with sexually transmitted diseases leading to unnecessary investigations and treatment and raising the question of sexual abuse in children.

Background: Verruccous lesions of the penis are difficult to classify. Materials and methods: The present study included 60 verruccous lesions of the penis in a period of 5 years, at Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal. Ours was a prospective study of 5 years duration. Results: In our study the age group ranges from 30 years to 80 years. Majority of the lesions were observed between 60-69 years age group. Warty lesions constituted 40 (66.7%), Cauliflower like growths constituted 14 (23.3%), and diffusely infiltrating constituted 6 (10%). Histopathological examination findings showed out of 60, 24 biopsies diagnosed as condyloma accuminata, 9 as simple verruccous hyperplasia, and remaining 27 are diagnosed as carcinomas out of which verruccous carcinoma were 12 followed by condylomatous carcinoma and papillary carcinomas each 6, squamous cell carcinomas were 3 in number. Conclusion: Each and every grossly visible verruccous lesions of the penis should be adequately biopsied for the early diagnosis of carcinoma. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A 27-month old girl was admitted with multiple pedunculated red-purple colored cauliflower-like lesions of 1.5 years duration. Clinical/histopathological and microbiological diagnosis was condyloma acuminate due to HPV type 16. After 12 weeks of imiquimod 5% cream application (pea-sized) overnight three times per week, the perianal warts had completely disappeared. The mode of transmission of HPV 16 in our case was probably horizontal, related to the sharing of common personal hygiene items in the women’s shelter. We report herein the case of an infant living in a women’s shelter with giant condyloma acuminata due to HPV 16, which was successfully treated with topical imiquimod therapy. This patient should be followed up for recurrence and potential malignant lesions related to HPV type 16.

Among the atypical variants of Familial benign chronic pemphigus (FBCP) is the genital verricoid variety. This condition is often misdiagnosed as condyloma accuminata. We present a case of a genital verrucoid variant of Hailey-Hailey disease that was initially mistaken for condyloma accuminata. Multiple asymptomatic white bands in more than one fingernail were the first clue in diagnosing the condition, which was confirmed histopathologically. This nail marker may antedate any other cutaneous manifestation of FBCP. Nail examination for longitudinal leukonychia of fingernails might be of help in diagnosing atypical cases of Halley-Bailey disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Perianal pseudoverrucous papules and nodules (PPPN) is a rare entity attributed to chronic irritation. We came across this entity in a case of spina bifida. A 14 year old girl having spina bifida at L3 presented with complaints of multiple asymptomatic whitish lesions on the inner aspect of thighs and labia majora since early childhood. She had incontinence of stool and urine since birth. Cutaneous examination revealed multiple 3-12 mm flat topped moist papules, few verrucous nodules, some of these lesions coalesced to form plaques at the perianal area extending upto the labia majora. On histology marked epidermal hyperplasia and pale keratinocytes in the epidermis was seen. This confirmed the diagnosis of PPPN. This rare condition can be mistaken with sexually transmitted diseases leading to unnecessary investigations and treatment.

Purpose: An anal condyloma is a proliferative disease of the genital epithelium caused by the human papillomavirus. This condition is most commonly seen in male homosexuals and is frequently recurrent. Some reports have suggested that immunosuppression is a risk factor for recurrence of a condyloma. Thus, we investigated the risk factors for a recurrent anal condyloma in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive patients., Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 85 consecutive patients who were diagnosed with and underwent surgery for an anal condyloma from January 2007 to December 2011. Outcomes were analyzed based clinical and immunologic data., Results: Recurrent anal condylomata were found in 25 patients (29.4%). Ten cases (40.0%) were within postoperative 3 months. At postoperative 6 months, the CD4 lymphocyte count in the recurrent group was lower than it was in the nonrecurrent group (P = 0.023)., Conclusion: CD4-mediated immunosuppression is a risk factor for recurrent anal condylomata in HIV-positive patients.
