PURPOSE. When organizing a mobile robot (MR) movement in a non-deterministic environment, the SLAM problem arises, which includes the detection of an obstacle presence by the MR sensor system, the distance to the obstacle and its shape. To solve this problem, an infrared (IR) analog distance sensor is often used, the information flow from which is relatively small and can be processed in real time using low-performance microcontrollers. However, such a sensor can only detect an obstacle and determine а distance to a certain point on its surface. The goal is to develop a method for determining both а distance to an obstacle and its shape. When setting up experiments on the use of an analog sensor of the GP2Y0A (SHARP) type, a problem was revealed associated with the occurrence of not only fluctuation noise in а data communication channel, but also artifacts – anomalous signal values appear with random periodicity. It is necessary to determine the source of such interference, propose a method for estimating its parameters and a way to minimize its influence. METHODS. To determine the shape of an obstacle, a differential method is proposed based on the use of several readings of a scanning IR distance sensor. As an indicator of the “noisiness” of the channel, it is proposed to use the number of sensor signal values that exceed the average signal value by 1σ, 2σ, 3σ, 4σ and 5σ. The use of standard methods for filtering abnormal values of a sensor signal leads to significant delays in a response of the MR control system. This is unacceptable, because at the executive level of a control system it is required to provide a "hard" real-time mode. RESULTS. The article presents the results of experiments showing the conditions for applying the differential method for determining a shape of an obstacle, the source of anomalous signal values is identified and a method for minimizing them is proposed. A method for increasing the practical use range of a nonlinear IR sensor conversion function is also proposed. CONCLUSION. The number and magnitude of abnormal values depend on a communication channel length. When using analog sensors, it is necessary to convert an output signal into digital form using analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) in an integrated design, structurally bringing the ADC as close as possible to the signal source.

Managers in public institutions are increasingly concerned with achieving high quality and effective communication and raising awareness of its importance among members of the institution, with effects on improving: leadership effectiveness; employee motivation and satisfaction; employee trust in the institution and their commitment to both work and the organisation; improving the relationship between managers and subordinates.This requires managers to continually adapt organisational communication strategies, policies and practices to facilitate the achievement of the institution's mission and objectives. The study aims to analyse organisational communication, from an internal perspective, with a view to improving its quality according to the requirements of external and internal stakeholders. At the same time, we aim to identify management practices and factors that can positively influence the quality of communication and employee involvement in the communication process, with effects on increasing employee satisfaction, based on the example of a public institution within the state administration.

The concept of Cultural Heritage, in its tangible and intangible meanings, has been expanding its contents and definitions for more than twenty years, involving multiple subjects and spaces at different scales. It plays a crucial role in the progress of societies, promoting dialogue between cultures and respecting identity and diversity. At the same time, it is an invaluable resource for education, employment, tourism, and sustainable development. In this scenario, reading, understanding, and valorising the cultural resources of territories becomes essential for understanding an urban area’s aims and relational complexity, which is aimed at redesigning the actual spaces. In an urban context, Cultural Heritage is exposed, subjected to interpretation and understanding by residents and tourists alike. In this process, visual storytelling becomes a key instrument for communication, identifying the recipient and its cultural background and proceeding to a cultural mediation to bridge the gap between perceived content and its meanings. The article starts with a state-of-the-art discussion of visual communication applied to cultural heritage, exploring the domain’s techniques and methodological approaches. Then, starting from the contextualisation of the research, set within the Esquiline district in Rome, the study focuses on the critical-comparative analysis between different visual approaches of different itineraries, relating the type of communication, the object of the communication, and the results achieved. The article is devoted to the development of a method for increasing the efficiency of communication channels of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the conditions of electronic warfare (EW). The author analyses the threats that may be caused by the use of electronic warfare against autonomous UAVs. A review of some technologies that can be used to create original algorithms for countering electronic warfare and increasing the autonomy of UAVs on the battlefield is carried out. The structure of modern digital communication systems is considered. The requirements of unmanned aerial vehicle manufacturers for onboard electronic equipment are analyzed, and the choice of the hardware platform of the target radio system is justified. The main idea and novelty of the proposed method are highlighted. The creation of a model of a cognitive radio channel for UAVs is considered step by step. The main steps of modelling the spectral activity of electronic warfare equipment are proposed. The main criteria for choosing a free spectral range are determined. The type of neural network for use in the target cognitive radio system is substantiated. The idea of applying adaptive coding in UAV communication channels using multicomponent turbo codes in combination with neural networks, which are simultaneously used for cognitive radio, has been further developed.

The chip application has become the trending element in all digital applications because of its easy and flexible use. However, chip-based communication’s chief demerits are power consumption and delay. The huge data broadcasting often raises these two problems in Network-onChip (NoC) architecture. So, the present research work has aimed to create a novel Strawberry-based Recurrent neural (SbRN) framework for minimizing the NoC buffer length and reducing the latency and power consumption. Here, the fitness of Strawberry was utilized to sense the large data size; once the large data size was identified, the compression process was started to compress the data. Moreover, the NoC architecture was designed with an optimized buffer with strawberry fitness. Once the compressed data was present in the network medium, it allowed broadcasting to the other end. If the data is not compressed or not in the minimum compression range, the compression process was again to optimize the data buffer. Finally, the proposed architecture was validated with other conventional schemes and has gained the best outcome by reducing 5% of device utilization and 0.5% of power consumption than other methods. The oil and gas industry in Western Turkmenistan is a key component of the region's economy and efficient drilling of horizontal wells can improve production and economic stability. The purpose of the study is to investigate the methods and technologies of drilling horizontal wells in order to increase the efficiency of production and to contribute to the development of the oil and gas industry. The analytical method, classification, functional, statistical, synthesis, should be noted among the methods used. This paper systematizes the experience of drilling horizontal wells at abnormally high reservoir pressures in the western part of Turkmenistan. The aspects, related to the choice of the configuration of the lower part of the drill string, drilling methods, and determination of optimal parameters such as angles and stabilization of the zenith angle are considered in detail and the importance of the quality of drilling mud in the context of drilling horizontal wells is emphasized. This study demonstrates, that drilling of horizontal wells can be successfully carried out both at the initial stages of field development and at later stages, and it should be included in technological development schemes already at the field design stage. In order to address the issues that arise in modern power systems, such as system dynamics, stability, control, efficiency, reliability, economy, planning and policy, and so on, efforts have been made to develop new tools and techniques, components, methodologies, and scientific innovations in a variety of fields. These efforts have been undertaken to address these issues. The term “digital twin” (DT) refers to one of the most reliable and rapidly developing technologies that have recently been incorporated into a variety of applications, platforms, and real-time projects. The authors of this study offered a scoping review of DT technologies with a primary emphasis on power systems. It has been established that the underlying notion behind this technology, as well as its operating principle, types, communication channels and protocols, and standards, have all been thoroughly examined. In addition, the possibility of integrating other technologies with DT has also been considered, along with the potential benefits of doing so and the potential difficulties that may arise. Based on the information gained from the current projects, the finished projects, the research publications, as well as the research and industry insights, a critical discussion has been made.

The article studies the way transformed traditional forms of popularization of legal knowledge in Russia impact the popular legal discourse. The form of popularization is perceived by the author as a permanent communicative model used by popularizers to increase legal awareness of non-specialists. Traditional forms of science popularization are subject to modification due to the emergence of new channels and means of communication. To interact with the target recipient, popularizers use a hybrid popular legal discourse, which enables them to disseminate legal knowledge in a comprehensible (adapted) form and maintain a steady interest of the community in legal issues. Depending on the communication channel used by the popularizer to convey the message to the audience, the author distinguishes a distant, distant-virtualized, monovirtual, contact-virtualized and contact types of popular legal discourse. Attention is drawn to the chronotope and participants of the types of discourse in question, as well as to the interdiscursive interaction in genre varieties of Russian popular legal discourse. Adapting to the changed conditions of communication, the polycode and hybridization potential of the popular legal discourse has reached a new level. In addition to informing the audience and shaping the public ideology, modern popular legal discourse also performs a recreational function. Entertainment is becoming an integral component of the texts of modern popular discourse, which makes it possible to gain and hold the attention of the public in a highly competitive environment.

This paper studies how the ability of a consumer to recall various communication channel materials relates to differences in purchase frequency in the early lifecycle stages of a brand. It provides insight into the strategic decisions which marketers should make relating to marketing communication channels over time. Results indicate that in the introductory and early growth lifecycle stages, online communication channels are not sufficient alone in producing high brand purchase frequency and should be supplemented by integrated communication channels including traditional and instore communications. In the world of health care in the last decade we have witnessed a continuous and exponential increase of electronic health data. This data has been harnessed by health informaticians to transform data into information and information is further transformed into knowledge. However, it is observed that all data does not get transformed into information. In this article the author attempts to discuss this concern from the perspective of a communication channel presented by the veteran computer scientist of the previous century Claude E. Shannon. A discussion on three different types of communications namely: a) human to human, b) human to machine, and c) machine to machine is provided. This discussion also includes the critical aspect of using different types of information entropy in estimating uncertainties associated with these communications. Additionally, the author also presents the identification of a particular communication channel and ascertaining its strength using conditional entropy. Overall, this perspective article makes a conscious attempt to initiate a discussion in the scientific community on this matter. This study explored how undergraduate students at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa sought and consumed information about the virus that causes COVID-19. This study also examined student perceptions of the severity of and their susceptibility to the virus and their main concerns about it. Four hundred fifty-six students completed online surveys between October and early December of 2020 and 2021. Students reported low to moderate levels of information seeking across four domains: (1) knowledge about COVID-19 and its symptoms; (2) preventing the spread of the virus; (3) the current state of the pandemic in Hawai‘i; and (4) the likely future of the pandemic in Hawai‘i. Overall, websites, television, and Instagram were the top 3 channels used by students to seek information for these domains. Students reported primarily paying attention to information from government and news organizations as sources. However, students’ preferred channels and sources varied with the type of information they sought. Students also reported believing that COVID-19 is severe and that they are susceptible to being infected with it. The more time students reported seeking information, the greater their perceptions of COVID-19’s severity across all domains. Students’ primary concerns about COVID-19 centered on state regulations/policies, vaccines, tourism/travel, the economy, and pandemic/post-pandemic life. These findings can help public health practitioners in Hawai‘i determine how best to reach an undergraduate student population with information related to COVID-19. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Despite an abundance of research that examines how organizations can effectively communicate with external stakeholders amid a crisis, few studies examine crisis communication from an employee perspective. Using social identity theory and conducting an online experiment with 424 manufacturing and retail employees, we examine how organizational identification, the communication channel used to disseminate crisis‐related information, and the crisis timing strategy influence employees' cognitive reactions and behavioural intentions amid a preventable crisis. The findings highlight the importance of nurturing employees' identification with the organization before a crisis as highly‐identified employees exhibited higher levels of identification, less turnover intention, and greater trust in the organization while also attributing less crisis responsibility to the organization. Results also suggest that the channel and timing strategy employed to relay crisis information has little impact on employees' cognitive reactions and behavioural intentions, implying how employees receive information is less important than other factors, including the relational context. Статья посвящена анализу особенностей Инстаграм аккаунта Московского государственного университета, который является частью глобального университетского дискурса, за период январь-август 2021 года. Все посты, опубликованные в исследуемый период, были разделены по тематикам. Наиболее частотными темами постов Инстаграм аккаунта МГУ являются образование, наука и новостные сообщения о жизни университета. В сообщениях преобладает нейтральная лексика с отдельными вкраплениями эмоциональных единиц. Эмоциональность достигается с помощью комбинирования различных типов информации (аудио, видео, текст) в сочетании с эмотиконами. Дальнейшее исследование было проведено в рамках мультимодального подхода к анализу современных каналов коммуникации. Анализ показал, что доминантным типом корреляции различных каналов является сочетание визуальной, аудиальной и текстовой информации. Именно такие сообщения набирают большее количество просмотров и отклик широкой аудитории.

The 5G deployment brings forth the usage of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) to assist wireless networks by providing improved signal coverage, acting as relays or base-stations. Another technology that could help achieve 5G massive machine-type communications (mMtc) goals is the Long Range Wide-Area Network (LoRaWAN) communication protocol. This paper studied these complementary technologies, LoRa and UAV, through measurement campaigns in suburban, densely forested environments. Downlink and uplink communication at different heights and spreading factors (SF) demonstrate distinct behavior through our analysis. Moreover, a neural network was trained to predict the measured signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) behavior and results compared with SNR regression models. For the downlink scenario, the neural network results show a root mean square error (RMSE) variation between 1.2322–1.6623 dB, with an error standard deviation (SD) less than 1.6730 dB. For the uplink, the RMSE variation was between 0.8714–1.3891 dB, with an error SD less than 1.1706 dB. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Communication channels are pathways through which information or messages are transmitted to an audience or receiver. The focus of this study was to assess extension communication channels among agro-forestry farmers in Ekiti State, Nigeria. Primary data were collected from 267 respondents using structured questionnaire. The data were analysed with descriptive statistics and 5-points likert scale. The result showed that (44.57%) of the farmers are within productive age bracket (21-40 years) with an average age of 38 years. Majorities (67.4%) of the farmers are male and 73.4% married. The result showed that the majority of the respondents are male (67.4%) with mean age of 38 years. They are married (73.4%) with average household size of 5, average farm size 2.8 ha and average farming experience of 11 years respectively. The result further showed that radio (79.78%) and television (70.79%) were rated high by the famers among the channel of communication used in the dissemination of agro-forestry technology. Also, radio (81.65%) and television (73.03%) are the major source of information to agro-forestry farmers. Tree and shrubs on pasture system (ϰ͞ =3.91; SD= 1.06) and integrated production system (ϰ͞ =3.90; SD= 1.03) are the most aware agro-forestry technologies by the farmers. Group discussion (79.78%) and visit (70.79%) were the most preferred extension communication channels. Inadequate extension agent (80.15%), incompetency of extension agents (62.55%) and respondent’s poor attendance at meeting (52.43%) are the major constraint to effective extension communication channels. The study recommends the use of group discussion and visit as the most appropriate communication channels to the agro-forestry farmers in the study area. Also, more trained extension agents should be made available to farmers for effective and efficient agro-forestry technologies delivery.

Introduction. Interest in the problem of false (fake) news has increased significantly in the situation of the coronavirus pandemic, when the flow of false information considered as an obstacle to the implementation of measures to combat the pandemic itself and its consequences. The authors aim to study the existing works devoted to the analysis of the construction and recognition of false news about COVID-19, paying special attention to the procedures of fact-checking-process of verifying the accuracy of the information contained in the message. The novelty of the author’s approach lies in the use of a content analysis of the fact-checking resource to identify communication technologies for constructing fake news about the coronavirus.Methodology and sources. As a theoretical framework, authors used the information model of communication by Claude Shannon, structuring communication as a process of information transmission and fixing the possibility of noise (distortion) in various parts of this process. The empirical basis of the study was a fact-checking resource that specializes in identifying fakes about the coronavirus (47 units of analysis were considered for the period from March to May 2020).Results and discussion. In the result of the research, specific communication technologies of purposeful construction of false news were identified – distortions in the communication channel, distortions in the message code (content), distortions in the message source. We also identified the types of distortions associated with the content of communication – based on the creation of false content, recoding information (giving it a new interpretation), editing the original. Different frequency of application of these technologies for a given volume of analysis units were been recorded, as well a s the predominance of the technology of distortion of the communication channel.Conclusion. The authors draw a conclusion about the importance and relevance of the topic of constructing fake news in the situation of the ongoing COVID -19 pandemic, demonstrate the productivity of using fact-checking resources to identify various communicative technologies for constructing false messages, which creates new prospects for recognizing and countering them.

When measuring low-power optical signals in single-photon communication channels, the receiving modules must ensure the minimum probability of erroneous data recording. In this regard, it is advisable to use photon counters. They are highly sensitive, but are characterized by data recording errors. The aim of the work was to determine the effect of intensity of optical signal on the probability of erroneous data recording in a single-photon communication channel with a receiving module based on a photon counter.Based on the results of experimental studies, the dependences of the probability of erroneous registration of binary symbols «0» Perr 0 on the intensity of the optical signal J0 , used to transmit these symbols for various supply voltages of the avalanche photodetector U, were obtained. It was found that with an increase of intensity of the optical signal, the dependences Perr 0(J0) first decrease, reaching their lowest value, and then increase. The performed assessment showed that the lowest probability of erroneous registration the binary symbols «0» for the investigated communication channel is equal to 17,56 • 10-2 and corresponds to J0 = 52,41 • 10-2 rel. units and U = 52,54 V.

We investigate how word-of-mouth marketing campaign participants select communication partners, content and channel. Rules Theory, which we adopt from the interpersonal communication literature, indicates that socially constructed contextual rules explain participants’ choices. Our analysis suggests that campaign participants are sensitive to the socially constructed contexts within which interaction takes place and adjust their communication choices accordingly. We identify four contexts that account for variance in participants’ choices: episode, relationship, life-script and family narrative. This qualitative study to describe use of WhatsApp (WA) as a communication channel used in teaching English, especially in Speaking class. Reserachers interviewed two teachers teaching and observed 23 students participated in each class. The results that use of WA as communication channel was based on some reasons as all participants had this application and could operate this application well. WA could facilitate teaching and learning as well as communication process; this application was considered less internet data consuming. Results of the observation showed that verbal and nonverbal communication performed by participants accommodated social, ritual, expressive, and instrumental communication functions which led to sustainable communication and intimacy amongst the members. Regarding the positive sides of WA, the researchers suggest all educators to make use of WA in their online learning.

The article proposes a modification of the known invariant amplitude modulation that transmits the values of information elements by the ratio of the lengths of the signal vectors lying on a straight line passing through the origin of the coordinate system of the signal space [1]. Modification of this modulation makes it possible to use signals whose vector ends lie on a straight line that does not necessarily pass through the origin of the signal space coordinate system. This gives the opportunity to use in a greater variety of signals, not just signals of similar shape as in the well-known invariant of amplitude modulation that can be useful to enhance immunity against a specific type of interference and to secrecy of messages transmitted. The article contains an assessment of the noise immunity of a communication system with modified invariant amplitude modulation to white noise and a description of its structural scheme.

This article investigates the robustness issues of a set of distributed optimization algorithms, which aim to approach the optimal solution to a sum of local cost functions over an uncertain network. The uncertain communication network consists of transmission channels perturbed by additive deterministic uncertainties, which can describe quantization and transmission errors. A new robust initialization-free algorithm is proposed for the distributed optimization problem of multiple Euler–Lagrange systems, and the explicit relationship of the feedback gain of the algorithm, the communication topology, the properties of the cost function, and the radius of the channel uncertainties is established in order to reach the optimal solution. This result provides a sufficient condition for the selection of the feedback gain when the uncertainty size is less than the unity. As a special case, we discuss the impact of communication uncertainties on the distributed optimization algorithms for first-order integrator networks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research aimed to explore the effects of communication channels and anger intensity as factors determining how the expression of anger affects negotiation outcomes. Based on the "emotions as social information" (EASI) model and media richness theory, we tried to examine how anger expression influences both economic and psychological negotiation outcomes as a function of communication channels and explore its underlying mechanism. In Study 1, 470 participants were randomly assigned to one of the five experimental conditions-neutral, anger expression via text/emoticon/voice/video-and asked to participate in an online negotiation task. The results showed a significant main effect of communication channel; partner's anger expression via communication channels richer in non-verbal cues (voice and video) led participants to make a higher concession and report lower satisfaction with negotiation and lower desire for future interaction with the same partner compared to anger expression via less rich channels (text and emoticon). The anger expression effects on psychological outcomes were partially explained by perceiver's anger experience in response to anger display, which is consistent with the affective mechanism proposed by the EASI model. Study 2 examined whether the results of Study 1 could be attributable to the different levels of anger intensity perceived by the participants across different communication channels. Data analyses from 189 participants showed a significant main effect of anger intensity only with a desire for future interaction, but not with satisfaction and concession. The insignificant findings of the latter imply that the observed channel effect in Study 1 cannot be fully explained by the intensity effect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Using the interpersonal process model of intimacy as a theoretical framework, this article proposes that participants' own self-disclosure affects their perceptions of partner responsiveness, even when the partner's actual responsiveness is held constant, and that this perceived partner responsiveness increases relational intimacy. Findings from an experiment (N= 253) showed that participants' high (vs. low) intensity self-disclosure led to higher perceived partner responsiveness, which in turn increased intimacy. The valence and channel of self-disclosure did not moderate the link between the intensity of self-disclosure and perceived partner responsiveness, but the channel of self-disclosure affected perceived partner responsiveness, with participants who interacted face-to-face reporting higher perceived partner responsiveness than those who interacted over computer-mediated communication. The aim of our paper is to evaluate the maximum Shannon (syntactic) information carried through a video lecture. To achieve the aim, we have considered a natural lecture delivered by a lecturer as a signal transmitted over the physical communication channel consisting of a sound sub-channel and light sub-channel. Receivers are eyes and ears of listeners whose physical characteristics are taken into account. The physiological, neurological and cognitive aspects of the problem are neglected in calculations. The method has been developed to calculate the absolute maximum values of Shannon information characteristics of a natural lecture basing on the capacity formula of continuous communication channel and physical considerations taken into account for the first time, to our knowledge. Maximum Shannon information characteristics (entropies of sound and light frames, amounts of total acoustical and optical information, capacities of sound and light sub-channels, total amount of information and total capacity) of a natural lecture perceived by the audience have been calculated. These values are the upper bounds of a video lecture. The obtained results are discussed in the paper. After some modification, the proposed method can be practically applied for the optimization of both natural and video lectures because there is some correlation between syntactic and semantic information characteristics. The issues of elaboration of requirements for data transfer protocol in fire notification transmission systems are considered. The elaboration of requirements is related to the necessity of informational compatibility between fire notification transmission systems of various manufacturers and automated workstation of fire-and-rescue unit dispatcher. The basic structure of information data of the transfer protocol is proposed. The general and minimum required structure of information attributes of the database of objects of protection is determined. This database is installed at the automated workstation of the of fire-and-rescue unit dispatcher.
