Ground beetles and tiger beetles are the most noticible representatives of predatory invertebrates often used in bioidentificational studies. This article provides quantitative and ecological characteristics of Caraboidea in five metroplises of Ukraine (Dnipro, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kyiv, and Lviv). In total, in these cities, 237 species of Caraboidea were recorded, belonging to 63 genera and two families – Carabidae (231 species, 61 genera) and Cicindelidae (6 species, 2 genera). By abundance of Carabidae in megapolises, 33 species were identified to abundant. Eudominants were represented by three species: Harpalus rufipes, Pterostichus melanarius and P. оblongopunctatus, dominants – five: Amara aenea, Anchomenus dorsalis, Calathus fuscipes, Harpalus distinguendus and Poecilus versicolor. Subdominants were 25 species: Amara similata, Asaphidion flavipes, Badister bullatus, Bembidion lampros, B. properans, Broscus cephalotes, Calathus ambiguus, C. melanocephalus, Carabus cancellatus, C. coriaceus, C. granulatus, Cylindera germanica, Harpalus affinis, H. anxius, H. griseus, H. latus, H. tardus, Limodromus assimilis, Microlestes minutulus, Nebria brevicollis, Notiophilus palustris, Poecilus cupreus, Pterostichus niger, P. ovoideus and P. strenuus. In the studied cities, 53 species are rare, 151 species were identified to the group of accidental species. For separate cities, number of eudominants ranged from 4 (Donetsk, Kyiv) to 6–8 (Kharkiv, Lviv). Ten species discovered: Amara famelica, A. majuscula, Anisodactylus nemorivagus, Asaphidion pallipes, Badister lacertosus, Blemus discus, Harpalus laeviceps, Limodromus krynickii, Pterostichus minor and Tachyta nana were new for the Steppe zone of Ukraine. Chlaenius aeneocephalus and Brachinus brevicollis were recorded for the first time in the Right Bank of the northern subzone of the steppe zone, and Stenolophus abdominalis mentioned earlier for the far south of Ukraine was for the first time reported for the northern Steppe. Microlestes nеgrita was new for the Forest Steppe, and Masoreus wetterhalli and Syntomus foveatus, known earlier for the forest zone and the south of the steppe zone, were for the first time reported for its northern subzone. The levels of faunistic similarity of Caraboidea for different metropolises ranged within 0.20–0.60 for all species and 0.32–0.90 for abundant species. Most similar were carabidofaunas of Kharkiv and Dnipro (similarity index of Jaccard equaled 0.58–0.87), slightly lower in Dnipro and Kyiv (0.50–0.72). Lowest parameters were seen for Lviv compared with the other cities (0.20–0.32). According to the species composition, the most numerous were meadow (119) and forest elements (59 species). To the polytopic group, 25 species are identified, 23 to the steppe group, and 11 species to the litoral group. In numbers in all the metropolises, the polytopic group dominated, among which abundant species comprised almost half. Within the forest group in Dnipro, Donetsk and Kharkiv, 4–6 abundant species were recorded, whereas in Kyiv and Lviv their number was 14–17 species. Within the meadow group, common species were represented by 4–11 species, and in the steppe and litoral groups such species were absent. In relation to moisture, eudominants were mesophiles (165 species), including 31 abundant species. According to the trophic specialization, zoophages dominated (146 species), including 24 abundant species. Among zoophytophages, 60 species (seven abundant) were recorded. Phytozoophages were represented by 30 species (two abundant). According to mechanical composition of soil, the more diverse groups were observed to be made up species preferring loamy and clay-loamy soils (85 species each), but to the abundant species from these groups, 6 and 10 species respectively were identified. The group of ground beetles with non-manifested preferences to mechanical composition of soil was represented by 41 species, though by number of abundant (17 species), the group was dominant. To inhabitants of heavy loamy, sandy and sabulous soils, 4, 6 and 16 species correspondingly were identified, and no abundant species were observed. At the level of abundant species, the ecological structure was more similar than shown by the analysis of all the species of ground beetles. Hypothetically, typical representatives of carabid beetles of Ukrainian metropolises could be considered polytopic or meadow (to a lesser extent forest) mesophile zoophages or zoophytophages which prefer loam-clayey soils without preference to one or the other type of soil.

- Abstract
Within the next thirty years, two thirds of the human population will live in a city. This growing urban population requires a major shift in the way we produce and distribute food, since industrial agriculture practices contribute to climate change, biodiversity losses, pollution of waterways, soil degradation, etc. Urban and peri-urban agriculture and forestry (UPAF) represent one of the strategies that can contribute to climate mitigation, adaptation and development. Amongst the urban farming (UF) systems, rooftop plant factories may provide part of the solution for vegetable and fruit production in the city, while solving current problems created by existing flat roofs and saving on arable land outside the city. This thesis presents a study of rooftop greenhouse (RTG) located on a typical warehouse in Malmö, Sweden (lat. 55.6°N, long. 13.0°E). The goal of the study was to investigate the effect on energy use of building a greenhouse on the roof of an existing warehouse. The study was performed by dynamic energy simulations with the computer program IDA-ICE. The results show that adding the RTG on the warehouse reduces total energy use compared to greenhouse and warehouse as stand-alone structures. Furthermore, the results indicate that the glazing and shading solutions are important aspects determining the energy-efficiency of the integrated system. The energy use for electric lighting is also significantly reduced by the RTG compared to an indoor horizontal farm of similar size illuminated by LED lamps. The main conclusion is that RTGs offer a great potential for food production in the city with the additional benefit of reducing overall energy use of host building and greenhouse. RTGs are also more energy-efficient than indoor farms illuminated by LEDs, when considering all energy end-uses (heating, cooling, lighting, and ventilation)., Human beings are now confronted with the greatest challenge they have ever faced i.e. an increase in food production due population growth and an acceleration urbanization. Urban agriculture is one of the strategies to ensure food security in future urban settlements. Amongst the urban farming (UF) systems, rooftop greenhouses (RTGs) present one solution for growing vegetables and fruits in dense cities. RTGs can provide additional value in terms of energy savings both for the host building and the rooftop greenhouse itself, in addition to solving current problems created by flat roofs while saving on arable land outside the city. This study investigates energy use for an existing warehouse retrofitted with a rooftop plant factory. The warehouse receives large amounts of solar radiation in the summer and thus has a high cooling load. In the winter, the warehouse loses heat through the roof, which translates into a heating demand. On the other hand, a greenhouse on the ground needs to be heated when outdoor temperatures are too low. Therefore, putting the greenhouse on the warehouse roof can be advantageous in terms of overall energy use since the greenhouse can be partly heated by heat losses from the host warehouse. In the summer, the RTG can provide shading to the warehouse, thus reducing its cooling demand. In this thesis, a RTG was added to a typical warehouse in Malmö, Sweden (lat. 55.6°N, long. 13.0°E), and energy demand of the combination of warehouse plus RTG was compared to each system as stand-along. This study was carried out by using a dynamic energy simulation programme called IDA-ICE. A basic model of the host warehouse was built and validated. By altering parameters of RTG such as glazing materials for the roof and sidewalls, as well as shading devices, the impact of combining RTG and warehouse was studied. The results show that the warehouse has a lower heating and cooling demand by 10.7 % and 6.8 % respectively when fitted with a RTG. On the other h

- Abstract
Förslag till vidare planering för grönstruktur i staden diskuteras också., The purpose of this study was to find out the link between green structure in the city and young people's perceived health. This has included the kind of green structure that young people value, what feelings and contacts young people experience with the green structure, and how the green structure can affect young people's perceived health. The result of these issues forms the link between the green structure of the city and young people's perceived health. To answer the survey's question, qualitative group interviews and quantitative questionnaires were conducted with young people aged between 15 and 18 years old. The result was analyzed with a targeted content analysis and a comparison between the questionnaire and the group interviews. The study shows that young people experience reduced stress and a better mood around urban nature. It also shows that young people value flowers, trees and access to activities in the green structure. The results have been presented through charts and quotes. The results have finally been discussed where the experience of nature could have an impact on young people’s answers. Proposals for further planning for green structure in the city are also being discussed.

Through European club football, we can begin to detect the outlines of a new Europe of competing cities and regions which are being disembedded from their national contexts into new transnational matrices. Focusing on a specific network of Manchester United fans, broadly located in the city of Manchester, this article examines the development of European consciousness among this group of individuals. This consciousness does not consist of a European supranationalism but rather of a new emphasis on the locale of Manchester and an increasing recognition that Manchester United and the city of Manchester must compete autonomously with other major clubs and cities in Europe. - Abstract
Climate change is a phenomenon with great implications on the cities throughout the region. Elements such as adaptation and mitigation should be included in territorial planning to minimize its effects. The vulnerability analysis is a tool that allows the correct application of these elements, because it assesses the exposure, sensitivity and adaptive capacity of the cities, and its results would allow for a more accurate decision-making in territorial planning and readiness to face the phenomenon. In the case of Medellín (Colombia) the discussion of the role of climate change in local territorial planning is very precarious and this was corroborated by a vulnerability analysis, whose results revealed a medium vulnerability, with the possibility of becoming a high vulnerability in the coming years if the climate change factor remains excluded from the discussion. The revision of the Territorial Planning Plan (POT, for its initials in Spanish) incorporated this phenomenon for the first time in 2013 and highlighted the problems and the required commitments in mitigation and adaptation, which enable reducing the degree of exposure and vulnerability to extreme climate events; however, there is still a lack of commitment, policies and concrete programs to make this possible., El cambio climático es un fenómeno con grandes implicaciones en las ciudades de toda la región y en los procesos de planeación deberían incluirse elementos como la mitigación y la adaptación para minimizar sus efectos.

- Abstract
At the center of this study are three Indian novels with an urban setting and dealing with political and social issues of the 1990s: Githa Hariharan’s In Times of Siege (2003), Vikram Chandra’s Love and Longing in Bombay (1997) and Amit Chaudhuri’s Freedom Song (1998). The Delhi of In Times of Siege is portrayed as a city infused with power but haunted by a troubled past that is brought to the present by a dissenting professor of history. The Bombay of Love and Longing in Bombay is also a haunted city, but is primarily imagined as a narrative locality in which storytelling is central to both the narrative and the city. The Calcutta of Freedom Song is explored through a resident family, blurring the distinctions between the home and the city. The three novels all negotiate an increasingly sectarian environment. The three cities of the novels are explored through the framework of anthropologist Arjun Appadurai’s concept of the production of locality, which sees place as a value and a dimension of social life. By approaching the cities in the novels through locality, it is possible to discern how the authors construct place as meaningful. This study thus extends the anthropological concept of locality into literature, addressing the specific strategies through which the authors portray and create their respective cities. Key concepts explored in the novels include agency, haunting, storytelling, and memory., Baksidestext At the center of this study are three Indian novels with an urban setting and dealing with political and social issues of the 1990s: Githa Hariharan’s In Times of Siege (2003), Vikram Chandra’s Love and Longing in Bombay (1997) and Amit Chaudhuri’s Freedom Song (1998). This study thus extends the anthropological concept of locality into literature, addressing the specific strategies through which the authors portray and create their respective cities. Key concepts explored in the novels include agency, haunting, storytelling, and memory., Denna avhandling behandlar tre indiska romaner vilka utspelar sig i städer och fokuserar på de politiska och sociala konflikterna under 1990-talet: Githa Hariharans In Times of Siege (2003), Vikram Chandras Love and Longing in Bombay (1997) och Amit Chaudhuris Freedom Song (1998). Avhandlingens analys bygger på antropologen Arjun Appadurais begrepp the production of locality, dvs. hur känslan av plats skapas.

- Abstract
Nowadays, the majority of the world’s population lives in cities and, according to projections, this number will increase over the coming decades. Accelerated globalization has dramatically increased the complexity and perceived unpredictability of threats and hazards. As cities continue to grow and grapple with uncertainties, cities across the world face an increasing variety of challenges ranging from short-term disasters such as floods, droughts, and earthquakes, to long-term disasters such as climate change. In most cities, the approach to managing disasters has limited to top-down initiatives directed by disjointed departments and entities of the local government who adopted a reactive response to disasters. In this context, city stakeholders such as volunteer organizations, citizens, media, academic, educational and scientific entities, and private and public companies were informed without becoming actively involved in the resilience-building process. The capacity of a city to adapt to disasters requires a resilience approach that not only takes into consideration the contribution of each stakeholder independently but also tackles the functioning of a city in a comprehensive and holistic manner. The approach to building resilience focuses on the innate strengths of city stakeholders and the need to collaborate to maximize efforts and existing resources. Building city resilience therefore, requires analyzing the needs of the different city stakeholders and empowering them to take actions. Currently, however, frameworks that help governments to improve collaboration with city stakeholders in the resilience-building process remain undeveloped. Therefore, frameworks that help local governments to understand and assess how to engage stakeholders at the most appropriate time and in a manner that contributes to the resilience-building process need to be developed. The contribution of this research is the development of a stakeholder-collaboration maturity model. The stakeholder-collaboration maturity model defines five sequential maturity stages to help local governments to improve progressively the collaboration with city stakeholders in the resilience-building process. Each maturity stage indicates the stakeholders that need to be involved, the policies that need to be implemented, and the indicators that evaluate the implementation of the policies. The stakeholder-collaboration maturity model was developed as a result of an iterative process that included semi-structured interviews with representatives from six different cities committed to improving their level of city resilience. Furthermore, two case studies were carried out in two cities in order to implement the stakeholder-collaboration maturity model. These case studies aimed at gathering evidence of the evolution of the collaboration between the local government and city stakeholders and to validate the sequence of stages and policies presented in the maturity model. Moreover, the stakeholder-collaboration maturity model made it possible to assess the current maturity stage of the cities under study and to provide recommendations for improving collaboration with different city stakeholders.

- Abstract
"The city of Sarajevo ... in Bosnia was the seat of the Austro-Hungarian government for Bosnia and Herzegovina ... In 1878 the leading governments of Europe sent representatives to a Congress in Berlin to settle the Balkan question. The work that this congress was to do was like that of the Peace Conference which met at Versailles in 1919, at the close of the World War. But the Congress of Berlin did not take into consideration the interests of oppressed peoples and arranged matters to suit their own selfish interests. The mistakes made in Berlin were underlying causes of the recent war. Austria was invited to "occupy" Bosnia and Herzegovina. The people of Bosnia and Herzegovina resisted the Austro-Hungarians but were unsuccessful. On September 20th, 1878, Austria-Hungary took over their government. This arrangement was supposed to be only temporary and she was supposed to evacuate when order and prosperity had been restored. But for selfish reasons Austria-Hungary became unwilling to do this and in 1908 Emperor Francis Joseph sent autograph letters to the various rulers of Europe stating that Austria-Hungary had annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina to her territory. Serbia had for a long time hoped to unite with her Slavic kinsmen of Bosnia, Herzegovina, and Montenegro in a greater state. Naturally she did not liek this plan of Austria-Hungary. On June 28, 1914, the Archduke Francis Ferdinand, heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary, and his consort, Duchess of Hohenberg, were shot by a Serbian boy, who was a Bosnian subject of Austria. Because of this act Austria had declared war on Servia and the great war was begun."--Taken from back of resource

- Abstract
In Chateau-Thierry, a city which will be famed henceforth forevermore in American as well as French history, the glories of ancient days and of days most recent are now closely interwoven. The ruined walls of the massive old castle (in french, 'chateau') from which we are looking down over the quaint old city. were built in the year 720 for the incompetent "sluggard king," Thierry IV, by his great Mayor of the Palace, Charles Martel, or Charles the Hammer. Twelve years after that, in 732, Charles martel saved France to Christian civilization by defeating the Saracens at Tours. Twelve centuries later the ancient chateau looked down upon Americans and French, side by side, stopping German rush toward Paris in that street and along those banks of the Marne which we see stretching far below us. Since those unforgettable days of May and June, 1918, the main street of the city, along which are looking, has been renamed the Rue du Marechal Petain, in honor of the commanding general of the French armies. You can see the temporary bridge across the Marne built by the Americans to replace the one blown up by our 7th Machine Gun Battalion, of the 3rd Division, on the night of June 1st, to prevent the Germans from crossing to the south bank. In those hours facing us on the opposite shores of the river the American machine guns were hidden, spitting a deadly fire at every German who showed himself on the other shore. Every foot of Chateau-Thierry is sacred ground to Americans, and the place will be visited by pilgrims from the New World of generations yet unborn."--Taken from back of resource
