Introduction: Multiple myeloma represents a malignant disorder of plasma cells. Extramedullary relapse in multiple myeloma is a rare occurrence, and pericardial involvement stands as an exceedingly uncommon manifestation. Only a few documented cases of pericardial effusion as an extramedullary relapse presentation of myeloma exist. Bispecific antibodies are emerging as a novel class of immunotherapy drugs for the treatment of relapsed refractory multiple myeloma patients who have experienced failure with four prior lines of therapy. According to a literature review, none of the reported cases with pericardial effusion relapsed myeloma have been treated with bispecific antibodies, given that these drugs have only recently gained approval. Case Presentation: We present a rare case of a patient with pericardial effusion resulting from myeloma relapse, treated with teclistamab, a bispecific antibody, and achieving an excellent response. Conclusion: Bispecific antibodies, such as teclistamab, show great effectiveness as a treatment for patients with relapsed refractory multiple myeloma, including those with extramedullary disease.

Introduction: Novel beta-lactam/beta-lactamase inhibitor (BIBLI) combinations are commercially available and have been used for treating carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) infections. Continuous surveillance of susceptibility profiles and resistance mechanism identification are necessary to monitor the evolution of resistance within these agents. Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the susceptibility rates of ceftazidime/avibactam, imipenem/relebactam and meropenem/vaborbactam in CRKP isolated from patients with bloodstream infections who underwent screening for a randomized clinical trial in Brazil. Methods: Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) were determined for meropenem, ceftazidime/avibactam, imipenem/relebactam and meropenem/vaborbactam using the gradient diffusion strip method. Carbapenemase genes were detected by multiplex real-time polymerase chain reaction. Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC)-producing isolates showing resistance to any BLBLI and New Delhi Metallo-beta-lactamase (NDM)-producing isolates with susceptibility to any BLBLI isolates were further submitted for whole-genome sequencing. Results: From a total of 69 CRKP isolates, 39 were positive for blaKPC, 19 for blaNDM and 11 for blaKPC and blaNDM. KPC-producing isolates demonstrated susceptibility rates above 94 % for all BLBLIs. Two isolates with resistance to meropenem/vaborbactam demonstrated a Gly and Asp duplication at the porin OmpK36 as well as a truncated OmpK35. All NDM-producing isolates, including KPC and NDM coproducers, demonstrated susceptibility rates to ceftazidime/avibactam, imipenem/relebactam and meropenem/vaborbactam of 0 %, 9.1–21.1 % and 9.1–26.3 %, respectively. Five NDM-producing isolates that presented susceptibility to BLBLIs also had porin alterations Conclusions: This study showed that, although high susceptibility rates to BLBLIs were found, KPC-2 isolates were able to demonstrate resistance probably as a result of porin mutations. Additionally, NDM-1 isolates showed susceptibility to BLBLIs in vitro.

O presente estudo analisa a vivência do luto como estratégia pedagógica de resistência do sujeito migrante às violências perpetradas pelo Estado e por grupos radicalizados de extrema-direita. A reificação dos sujeitos considerados indesejados e a adoção de uma lógica cinegética a partir da qual o Estado se converte em predador e, os ditos indesejados, em presas, são relacionadas à ascensão da extrema-direita nos últimos decênios. Discutem-se as perspectivas críticas de Theodore Adorno e Paulo Freire para dar suporte à proposta da escrita como trabalho de luto com potencial para, através de uma educação voltada à emancipação, construir a memória, afirmar a identidade e reivindicar a condição humana inalienavelmente digna do sujeito migrante.

Abstract Background Population surveys are crucial for public policy planning and provide valuable representative data. In the health sector studies to identify and assess the prevalence of Arterial Hypertension (AH), a chronic non-communicable disease (NCD), along with its associated risk factors have been conducted. Objectives This study aims to assess the effectiveness of a population health survey in estimating the prevalence of arterial hypertension (AH) in the Sorocaba municipality between August 2021 and June 2023. Methods: The analyzed performance indicator is the precision (design effect - deff) of AH prevalence in adults (≥ 18 years) and their exposure to primary risk factors. The total sample included 1,080 individuals from the urban area, deemed sufficient to estimate a deff of 1.5. This cluster-based study utilized census sectors as clusters, with data collected through household interviews, standardized questionnaires, and measurements of blood pressure and biometric parameters. The deff calculation formula used was weighted variance / raw variance. The Research Ethics Committee approved this study, with registration CAAE 30538520-1-0000-5373. Results The deff values ranged from 0.44 for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease to 1.63 for asthma, with a deff of 1.00 for AH prevalence. Conclusion: The study demonstrated good precision in its results, with high receptivity and cooperation from participants. The cost-effectiveness of the research deemed appropriate. The technique of selecting households within clusters (census sectors) based on detailed mapping and demographic data from the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE) proved to be practical and efficient, suitable for replication in other municipalities and for studying other NCDs.

The aim of this study was to describe the effectiveness of the vaccines (Tozinameran and Sputnik V), administered on a convenience sample of healthcare workers, and also to describe the relationship between the levels of neutralizing antibodies (NAbs) and the type of vaccine used, as well as their association with incident cases during follow-up.

ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others.

Objetivo: Conhecer as repercussões da morte fetal para os profissionais de enfermagem no âmbito hospitalar. Método: Pesquisa descritiva e exploratória, de abordagem qualitativa. Participaram do estudo enfermeiros e técnicos de enfermagem atuantes no centro obstétrico e alojamento conjunto de um hospital da região metropolitana de Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, totalizando 15 participantes. A coleta de dados foi realizada em maio de 2022, através de entrevista individual semiestruturada. Para análise dos dados utilizou-se a análise temática. A pesquisa seguiu as diretrizes da Resolução 466/2012 e foi autorizada pela instituição hospitalar e pelo Comitê de Ética e Pesquisa da Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS) CAAE nº 53678521.2.0000.5344. Resultados: As entrevistas originaram três categorias que abordaram o impacto da morte fetal para os profissionais de enfermagem, o cuidado com a mãe, bebê e família enlutada e as fragilidades no cuidado relatadas pelos profissionais. Considerações finais: Evidenciou- se que a morte fetal é uma situação delicada e desafiadora para todos os envolvidos, por isso, a necessidade de compreender e buscar por melhores formas de assistir a mulher e sua família que vivencia tal fato, qualificando a assistência e possibilitando que os profissionais de enfermagem se sintam mais seguros acerca do cuidado.

ABSTRACT: The objective of the present study was to evaluate a blend of functional oils (FO) composed of copaiba and garlic essential oils, pepper oleoresin and cashew nut liquid to mitigate the effects of heat stress on productivity, egg quality, organ morphology of the gastrointestinal tract, serum biochemical profile, nutrient metabolism and body temperature of Japanese quail. A completely randomized design was used in a 3 × 2 factorial scheme (without additive; 300 and 500 mg FO/kg of feed x birds raised in a thermal comfort (TC) and heat stress (HS) environment), with 6 replicates of 8 birds per plot. The birds under HS had lower feed intake (P = 0.0000), egg mass (P = 0.0000), laying rate (P = 0.0000) and higher percentage of infertile non-commercial eggs (P = 0.0004), lower head temperature amplitude (P = 0.0000) and higher average of body temperature (P = 0.0312). HS worsened the external and internal quality of the eggs. Birds kept in HS showed higher values of cholesterol (P = 0.0000) and glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (P = 0.0272). The use of 300 and 500 g FO/ton of feed improved the feed conversion (P = 0.0000) and egg mass (P = 0.0000) of the quail bred under HS, respectively, by 8.4 and 7.2% and increased the relative weight of liver (P = 0.0064) and pancreas (P = 0.0492). The use of such additives also provided a higher % of yolk (P = 0.0018) and reduced the percentage of albumen (P = 0.0029) of the eggs produced in TC, in addition to reducing the amplitude of head temperature (P = 0.0484) of birds bred under HS. The breeding of Japanese quail under HS results in negative impacts on the production, physiological and qualitative aspects of the eggs. The use of 300 g/ton of FO in the diet of Japanese quail leads to improvements in feed conversion, increased liver capacity in nutritional metabolism and results in eggs with a higher proportion of yolks, being, therefore, an alternative for feeding quail in a hot climate.

Abstract This article presents the lived and reflected experience of an Afro-centered psychology pilot study group. In addition to promoting collective studies, the group also aimed to experiment with an anti-racist inspired pedagogical-therapeutic methodological approach, aiming to promote processes of personal and professional Afrocentration. The group consisted of five psychologists from Brazil and Angola who shared a prior interest in the study. They met online monthly between July 2020 and August 2021. The reflections produced at each meeting were recorded in minutes. These records were collectively organized and analyzed to identify units of meaning. The reflections point to challenges in Psychology: 1) the need for Brazilian and Angolan psychology to open to authors who produce from Africa and the diaspora; and 2) the need for reflection and knowledge production based on the potential of traditional African and Afro-Brazilian practices as therapeutic tools.

Abstract Dryland ecosystems cover 40% of our planet's land surface, support billions of people, and are responding rapidly to climate and land use change. These expansive systems also dominate core aspects of Earth's climate, storing and exchanging vast amounts of water, carbon, and energy with the atmosphere. Despite their indispensable ecosystem services and high vulnerability to change, drylands are one of the least understood ecosystem types, partly due to challenges studying their heterogeneous landscapes and misconceptions that drylands are unproductive “wastelands.” Consequently, inadequate understanding of dryland processes has resulted in poor model representation and forecasting capacity, hindering decision making for these at‐risk ecosystems. NASA satellite resources are increasingly available at the higher resolutions needed to enhance understanding of drylands' heterogeneous spatiotemporal dynamics. NASA's Terrestrial Ecology Program solicited proposals for scoping a multi‐year field campaign, of which Adaptation and Response in Drylands (ARID) was one of two scoping studies selected. A primary goal of the scoping study is to gather input from the scientific and data end‐user communities on dryland research gaps and data user needs. Here, we provide an overview of the ARID team's community engagement and how it has guided development of our framework. This includes an ARID kickoff meeting with over 300 participants held in October 2023 at the University of Arizona to gather input from data end‐users and scientists. We also summarize insights gained from hundreds of follow‐up activities, including from a tribal‐engagement focused workshop in New Mexico, conference town halls, intensive roundtables, and international engagements.

ABSTRACT In 2000, Cleide Costa published a paper presenting the state of knowledge of the Neotropical Coleopte ra, with a focus on the Brazilian fauna. Twenty-four years later, thanks to the development of the Coleoptera section of the Taxonomic Catalog of the Brazilian Fauna (CTFB - Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil) through the collaboration of 100 coleopterists from all over the globe, we can build on Costa’s work and present an updated overview of the state of knowledge of the beetles from Brazil. There are currently 35,699 species in 4,958 genera and 116 families known to occur in the country, including representatives of all extant suborders and superfamilies. Our data show that the Brazilian beetle fauna is the richest on the planet, concentrating 9% of the world species diversity, with some estimates accounting to up to 15% of the global total. The most diverse family in numbers of genera is Cerambycidae (1,056 genera), while in number of species it is Chrysomelidae (6,079 species). Conotrachelus Dejean, 1835 (Curculionidae) is the most species-rich genus, with 570 species. The French entomologist Maurice Pic is the author who has contributed the most to the naming of species recorded from Brazil, with 1,794 valid names in 36 families, whereas the Brazilians Ubirajara R. Martins and Maria Helena M. Galileo are the only ones among the top-ten authors to have named species in the 21st century. Currently, approximately 144 new species of Brazilian beetles are described each year, and this average is projected to increase in the next decade to 180 species per year, or about one new Brazilian beetle every two days.

Pesquisas sobre visões de natureza da ciência (NdC) de alunos e professores da educação básica têm identificado, há décadas, uma predominância de visões consideradas “inadequadas”, “deformadas” ou “pouco informadas”. Boa parte dessas concepções estão relacionadas a uma confiança excessiva na autoridade da ciência, supervalorizando o papel da experimentação como forma de supostamente provar que as teorias científicas seriam verdadeiras. Essa questão se fortaleceu, na última década, como um dos desafios mais urgentes para a pesquisa em educação científica, em função do aumento do negacionismo científico, que envolve um questionamento também ingênuo da legitimidade de pesquisas científicas. Com base em estudos sobre a história da cosmologia do século XX, particularmente na controvérsia entre a teoria do Big Bang e do universo em Estado Estacionário, argumentamos que esse episódio tem potencial para promover discussões explícitas sobre o conceito de provas na ciência, e, portanto, de contribuir para a problematização de visões cientificistas e negacionistas na formação de professores. Esta pesquisa reforça empiricamente o argumento de que uma abordagem contextual de temas científicos, pautada na história da ciência contribui com a educação científica visando uma melhor compreensão da dinâmica científica.

Abstract Water springs are manifestations of groundwater to the surface, forming and ensuring the supply and sustainability of streams, lakes, rivers, and dams. Therefore, its riparian forest is considered an area of permanent preservation, which aims to protect the water, as well as the spring, from consequences of disordered population growth, added to deficient basic sanitation systems, climate change, agricultural activities, inappropriate land uses, unplanned urbanization, and diffuse sources of pollution. In addition to compromising water quality, many of these factors affect the permanence of water upwelling at the source, compromising the formation and continuity of streams, lakes, and rivers. In this context, the objective of the present research was to carry out a bibliographic review on water springs, approaching adjacent themes to the main axis of the study that are fundamental for a deep understanding of their importance for the maintenance of water resources and ensuring biodiversity in the search for the sustainability of life for present and future generations. This research collaborates with the environmental view and shows that the function of a water sources is broader than its concepts can reveal.

O artigo propõe uma reflexão sobre o contrato a partir da releitura decorrente do fenômeno da Constitucionalização do Direito Civil e como essa nova perspectiva reflete nos contratos administrativos sob o viés da intersecção do público e privado. A análise se pauta sobre o princípio da função social previsto no artigo 421 do Código Civil e como esse princípio produz efeitos no contrato administrativo de forma a concebê-lo como vetor de realização e concretização da sustentabilidade, esta que foi elevada à envergadura de princípio constitucional. Assim, a par da concepção de que a função social do contrato ultrapassa a relação dos envolvidos diretamente no enlace obrigacional, inclusive, na esfera administrativa, refletir-se-á o contrato a partir de sua contribuição para o bem social e para a vida em sociedade como finalidade da atuação estatal. Para tal proposição, foi adotado o método dedutivo, na vertente jurídico sociológica, sendo a pesquisa enquadrada no tipo descritiva e propositiva.

ABSTRACT: This study was conducted with the aim of analyzing the implications of removing the parameters from the mathematical model on the results of path analysis, with oats grown in different years and agricultural scenarios (with and without fungicide). For this, two field trials were conducted in southern Brazil, in five years of growth. The experimental design used in trial I (with fungicide application) was randomized complete blocks (RCB), in a 22 × 4 bifactorial arrangement, characterized by twenty-two oat cultivars and four fungicide applications. For trial II (without fungicide application) the RCB design was used, and the treatments were characterized by twenty-two oat cultivars, with three replications. The traits measured were panicle length, panicle mass, number of spikelets, number of grains, grain mass, and grain yield. For each year, data group, and scenario, the correlation coefficients between the explanatory variables and grain yield were calculated. The diagnosis of multicollinearity indicated violation of the statistical assumption, so it was necessary to proceed with a path analysis under multicollinearity (ridge). The removal of parameters from the mathematical model caused changes in the linear relationships between the oat yield traits, with the maintenance of the linear correlation coefficients in 3.30% and 20% of the situations, for the scenarios with and without fungicide application, respectively. Regarding the path coefficients, it was observed that the direct effects were maintained in 3.30% and 30% and indirect effects in 7.33% and 24.67% of the situations, for the scenarios with and without fungicide application, respectively.

BackgroundOne strategy to prevent adverse effects resulting from chemotherapy treatment is to perform physical exercises during treatment. However, there is still no consensus on the best type and intensity of exercise, nor when it should be started. Most studies have been carried out in patients with breast cancer, usually a few weeks after starting chemotherapy, on an outpatient basis 2 to 3 times a week. The main differences in our study are that we carried out physical training in hospitalized patients undergoing a cycle of chemotherapy for cancer treatment and that this training was carried out 5 times a week and was not restricted to a specific type of cancer. ObjectiveWe aimed to evaluate the effects of aerobic training on symptoms related to chemotherapy (nausea, vomiting, asthenia, and sensation of weakness), fatigue, mobility, clinical complications, and length of hospital stay of patients during the drug treatment cycle. We also evaluated patient satisfaction with the proposed intervention, the adverse effects of aerobics training, and the cost-effectiveness of this intervention. MethodsThis is a controlled and randomized trial with blinded evaluation that will include 94 hospitalized patients with cancer for 1 or more cycles of chemotherapy. The intervention group will perform aerobic training during a cycle of chemotherapy. The control group will receive a booklet with guidelines for staying active during the hospitalization period. The groups will be compared using a linear mixed model for fatigue, mobility, and chemotherapy-related symptoms before and after the intervention. The length of hospital stay will also be compared between groups using Kaplan-Meier survival analysis. The incidence of complications will be compared using the χ2 test. Cost-effectiveness and cost-utility analyses will be performed for the impact of exercise and quality-adjusted life years with the EQ-5D-3L-21 quality of life trials. The implementation variables (acceptability, suitability, and feasibility) will be evaluated by frequencies. ResultsThe clinical trial registration was approved in March 2023. Recruitment and data collection for the trial are ongoing, and the results of this study are likely to be published in late 2025. ConclusionsChemotherapy has side effects that negatively impact the quality of life of patients with cancer. Aerobic exercise can reduce these side effects in a simple and inexpensive way. The field of work of physical therapists could be expanded to oncology if the intervention works. For a banana tree to reach its productive potential, plants must be nutritionally balanced. Therefore, it is important to use methods that diagnose the nutritional status of plants through chemical leaf analysis, considering the relationships between nutrients and taking advantage of productivity and nutritional monitoring data from orchards. This study aimed to establish norms and ranges of nutrient sufficiency for ‘Nanica’ banana trees in Vale do Ribeira, São Paulo state, using the Diagnosis and Recommendation Integrated System (DRIS) method. Productivity data and chemical analysis of the leaf tissue of 291 commercial plots of Nanica banana trees, collected between 2015 and 2020 in Vale do Ribeira, were used. The DRIS method was used to establish norms and sufficiency ranges for N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, B, Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn. Fruit yield did not correlate with the average nutritional balance index (NBIa), indicating that its variation was affected by non-nutritional factors. The contents of K, Ca, Mg, S, B, Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn showed high correlations with their respective nutritional indices. The sufficiency ranges and adequate nutrient contents differed from the values established for bananas in the literature.

Enquadramento: Os profissionais de enfermagem são grupos de risco para a COVID-19, por estarem na linha de frente na prestação de cuidados à saúde. Objetivo: identificar a prevalência de COVID-19 e de sintomas pós-infeção entre os profissionais de enfermagem na atenção primária à saúde e os fatores associados. Metodologia: Estudo transversal realizado com profissionais de enfermagem na atenção primária à saúde de uma região do Rio Grande do Sul. A colheita de dados ocorreu em 2022 por meio de formulário eletrónico. Resultados: Dentre os profissionais testados para COVID-19 (83,8%), 43,8% positivaram numa ocasião e 16,4% tiveram reinfeção; 39,6% manifestaram sintomas pós-infeção, destacando-se perda de memória ou dificuldade de concentração, seguido de dores no corpo, perda de olfato e/ou paladar e outros. A prevalência de COVID-19 e sintomas pós- COVID-19 foi maior entre os profissionais de enfermagem com uso de medicação contínua e diagnóstico médico de patologia crónica. Conclusão: Sugerem-se estratégias de acompanhamento da saúde dos profissionais de enfermagem. Os resultados contribuem para o enfrentamento de futuras crises sanitárias.

Introduction: Hemoglobinopathy Sβ-thalassemia (HbSβ-thal) has a wide range of clinical and laboratory severity. There is limited information on the natural history of HbSβ-thal and its modulating factors. We described the molecular, hematological, and clinical characteristics of a cohort of children with HbSβ-thal and estimated its incidence in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Methods: Laboratory and clinical data were retrieved from medical records. Molecular analysis was performed by HBB gene sequencing, PCR-RFLP, gap-PCR, and MLPA. Results: Eighty-nine children were included in the study. Fourteen alleles of β-thal mutations were identified. The incidence of HbSβ-thal in the state was 1 per 22,250 newborns. The most common βS-haplotypes were CAR and Benin. The most frequent βthal-haplotypes were V, II, and I. Coexistence of 3.7 kb HBA1/HBA2 deletion was present in 21.3 % of children. β-thalassemia mutations were associated with several clinical and laboratory features. In general, the incidence of clinical events per 100 patient-years was similar for children with HbSβ0-thal, IVS-I-5 G>A, and IVS-I-110 G>A. Children with HbSβ+-intermediate phenotypes had a more severe laboratory and clinical profile when compared with those with HbSβ+-mild ones. βS-haplotypes and α-thalassemia did not meaningfully influence the phenotype of children with HbSβ-thal. Conclusion: The early identification of β-thalassemia alleles may help the clinical management of these children.

Abstract Background Orchids are grown without soil in many regions of the world, but there is a lack of studies to define the balanced and adequate nutrient solution for their cultivation, mainly in the vegetative growth phase. Therefore, this paper aims to evaluate the optimal concentration of the nutrient solution based on the proposal by Hoagland and Arnon (1950) in the vegetative growth phase capable of increasing the nutrient contents, growth, and dry matter production of Dendrobium Tubtim Siam and Phalaenopsis Taisuco Swan. In addition, this paper aims to estimate a new nutrient solution from the optimal nutrient contents in the dry matter of these orchid species to be used in the vegetative growth phase. Results Nutrient contents, growth, and dry matter production increased as the nutrient solution concentration increased up to an average concentration of 62 and 77% for D. Tubtim Siam and P. Taisuco Swan, respectively. We found that the Hoagland and Arnon solution presented a group of nutrients with concentrations above the requirement for P. Taisuco Swan (nitrogen, phosphor, calcium, and sulfur) and D. Tubtim Siam (phosphor, calcium, magnesium, and sulfur), while other nutrients in the solution did not meet the nutritional demand of these orchid species, inducing nutritional imbalance in the vegetative growth phase. Conclusion We conclude that using a balanced nutrient solution created specifically for each orchid species in vegetative growth might favor their sustainable cultivation by optimizing the use of nutrients in the growing medium.

In this context, the research aimed to evaluate the waste biomass from Tectona grandis L.f. for energy purposes. Seven teak wood waste types were used, accessible from the harvesting stage to wood processing. Physical attributes (moisture and basic density) and proximate analysis (volatile materials, ashes, and fixed carbon content) were evaluated, which were used to estimate the energy attributes (higher, lower, and net heating value and energy density). It was found that most waste components had moisture content averages below 30% and did not differentiate statistically. For the basic density, values varied between 366 and 519 kg.m-3. Proximate analysis and energetic attributes of the teak wastes support its feasibility for bioenergy use, focused on trimmings and thin logs. It was concluded that teak waste has the potential for energy purposes if its specific characteristics are considered and appropriate ways of use and conversion are chosen.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical and microbiological risk factors associated with mortality in patients treated with ceftazidime–avibactam for carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacterial infections. Methods: This multicentric prospective cohort study included hospitalized adult patients with a microbiologically confirmed infection treated with ceftazidime–avibactam for ≥48 hours. The clinical and microbiological risk factors for 30-day mortality were evaluated using a Cox regression model. Results: Of the 193 patients evaluated from the five tertiary hospitals, 127 were included in the study. Thirty-five patients (27.6%) died within 30 days. Infections with AmpC beta-lactamase-carrying bacteria were independently related to 30-day mortality (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR] 2.49, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.28–4.84, P < 0.01) after adjusting for time from infection to antimicrobial prescription (P = 0.04). Further, these bacterial infections were also related to higher in-hospital mortality (aHR 2.17, 95% CI 1.24–3.78, P < 0.01). Only one patient developed resistance to ceftazidime–avibactam during treatment. Conclusions: Treatment with ceftazidime–avibactam had worse clinical outcomes in patients with infections with bacteria with chromosomally encoded AmpC beta-lactamase. However, these findings should be confirmed in future studies.

Abstract Background It is well described that circulating progesterone (P4) plays a key role in several reproductive events such as oocyte maturation. However, during diestrus, when circulating P4 is at the highest concentrations, little is known about its local impact on the follicular cells such as intrafollicular P4 concentration due to corpus luteum (CL) presence within the same ovary. Based on that, our hypothesis is that the CL presence in the ovary during diestrus alters intrafollicular P4 concentrations, oocyte competence acquisition, follicular cells gene expression, and small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) miRNAs contents. Results P4 hormonal analysis revealed that ipsilateral to the CL follicular fluid (iFF) presented higher P4 concentration compared to contralateral follicular fluid (cFF). Furthermore, oocyte maturation and miRNA biogenesis pathways transcripts (ADAMTS-1 and AGO2, respectively) were increased in cumulus and granulosa cells of iFF, respectively. Nevertheless, a RT-PCR screening of 382 miRNAs showed that three miRNAs were upregulated and two exclusively expressed in sEVs from iFF and are predicted to regulate cell communication pathways. Similarly, seven miRNAs were higher and two exclusively expressed from cFF sEVs and are predicted to modulate proliferation signaling pathways. Conclusion In conclusion, intrafollicular P4 concentration is influenced by the presence of the CL and modulates biological processes related to follicular cell development and oocyte competence, which may influence the oocyte quality. Altogether, these results are crucial to improve our knowledge about the follicular microenvironment involved in oocyte competence acquisition.

Abstract Here we present an improved, rapid method for filling quasi-nulls in symmetrical radiation patterns synthesized by equispaced linear arrays, leading to the generation of multiple solutions. Considering the polynomial representation of the pattern, this null-filling is achieved by displacing the roots radially off the unit circle, keeping a constant displacement. This allows analyzing how the potential solutions vary with the quasi-uniform filling and the associated directivity loss. This method is based on the Cardano-Vieta relations, which link the coefficients of a complex Schelkunoff polynomial with its roots. As examples of application, we have considered a 20/100 element Dolph-Chebyshev pattern, with a spacing between the elements $$\lambda / 2$$ λ / 2 , side lobe level of − 20/− 28 dB and three inner sidelobes at − 40/− 50 dB.

Abstract Background Obstetric causes are classified as direct (complications of pregnancy, childbirth or the puerperium) or indirect (caused by pregnancy but not directly caused by it). This study aimed to analyze maternal mortality from obstetric causes in Brazil from 2011 to 2021. Methods This was an ecological study on mortality and live births. The outcomes were the specific risk of mortality from direct and indirect cause adjustment and death during pregnancy and the puerperium. Binary and multiple linear logistic regressions were used to assess the influence of sociodemographic factors and maternal and child health indicators on maternal mortality and time of death (pregnancy and puerperium). Abstract Fully formulated synthetic jet fuel is an aviation turbine fuel that does not contain petroleum‐derived kerosene and comprises the hydrocarbon compound classes n‐alkanes, isoalkanes, cycloalkanes, and aromatics. When the aim is to produce sustainable aviation fuel, one potential process pathway is by indirect liquefaction via Fischer–Tropsch synthesis. Fischer–Tropsch synthesised paraffinic kerosene plus aromatics (FT SPK/A) is a product that is fully formulated and can in principle be qualified as Jet A‐1. The synthetic jet fuel must ultimately meet all of the Jet A‐1 specifications. However, there are still hurdles on the path toward global approval of fully formulated synthetic jet fuel. In this study, several different refining pathways are shown that can be employed to produce FT SPK/A. The refining pathways have the desirable attribute of being generally useful and not limited to a specific refining technology. A case study is also presented in which FT SPK/A was produced, characterised and compared to Jet A‐1 specification requirements. It illustrated that it was practical to produce a fully formulated jet fuel via Fischer–Tropsch refining.

A coturnicultura é uma atividade que pode ser realizada de forma rústica e ocupando pouco espaço. As codornas são de rápido crescimento, baixo consumo de alimentação, rápido retorno e com dois produtos para o mercado, ovos e carne. Objetivou-se com esse estudo o efeito da inclusão de óleo funcional de copaíba na alimentação de codornas japonesas. Foram utilizados 126 codornas com idade de 144 dias, fêmeas, da linhagem japonesa alojados em gaiolas de arame galvanizados com dimensões 33 cm × 25 cm × 20 cm. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, com 3 tratamentos e 6 repetições de 7 animais cada. Os tratamentos constituíram de ração controle (base de milho e farelo de soja), ração controle com inclusão de óleo funcional de copaíba e ração controle com antibióticos. Foram avaliados os efeitos das dietas experimentais sobre os parâmetros de qualidade de ovos, bioquímica sanguínea e análises da biometria óssea ao final de três ciclos de 21 dias cada. Dentre os resultados obtidos com a inclusão do óleo funcional de copaíba, análise de qualidade de ovos resultou em valores significativos para peso de albúmen, % gema, pH gema e cor; para bioquímica sérica os dados mostraram-se significativos para fósforo, cálcio, proteínas totais, glicose, amilase, TGO e TGP; enquanto para os dados da biometria óssea apenas tíbia demostrou significância para peso. Concluindo que o óleo funcional de copaíba interfere nos parâmetros de qualidade de ovos, sanguíneos e ósseos de codornas em postura.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar um método para ajustar dados longitudinais de casos confirmados e acumulados de Covid-19, proporcionalmente ao número de habitantes dos estados das regiões Sul e Sudeste do Brasil, considerando o tempo como variável explicativa. Com o modelo proposto, é possível fazer previsões de novos casos da doença como forma de oferecer suporte para gestores públicos e privados na elaboração e planejamento de estratégias para prevenir ou atenuar impactos sociais e econômicos de doenças de propagação viral coma a Covid-19 e outras doenças com propagação similar. Considerou-se modelos de regressão spline com efeitos mistos, úteis para ajuste de dados correlacionados que não possuam relação linear, e modelos autorregressivos e de médias móveis (ARMA) para os resíduos, uma vez que estes apresentaram essa característica, além de serem estacionários. Utilizou-se o modelo de regressão spline cúbica com efeitos mistos para calcular as taxas de crescimento e para predição de observações futuras do número acumulado de infectados pela Covid-19 nos sete estados estudados. Os resultados obtidos demonstraram boa concordância entre os dados ajustados com o modelo e os dados observados para todos os estados analisados. As previsões para os estados de São Paulo, Espírito Santo e Minas Gerais apresentaram os menores valores absolutos dos desvios relativos entre valores preditos e observados.

Since its beginning in 2000, the OECD's Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) declared the promotion of educational equity as one of its core values and goals. For more than 2 decades, OECD and independent researchers have been taking advantage of the PISA datasets, using them to measure, explore and monitor the changes in educational equity, which has resulted in a comprehensive body of literature. This review offers a summary of official reports and independent studies regarding the change in socioeconomic equity in different countries based on PISA data analysis. We explore four types of educational equity (Equality of Opportunity, Equality of Outcome, Segregation, and Resilience) and summarize the results of the reviewed studies based on their method, geography, and reported trend of change.

AbstractBackground The Covid-19 pandemic has affected patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). Whether dialysis parameters have a prognostic value in ESKD patients with Covid-19 remains unclear.Materials and Methods We retrospectively evaluated clinical characteristics, blood pressure (BP) and dialysis parameters in ESKD patients undergoing maintenance outpatient hemodialysis, with (Covid-ESKD) and without (No-Covid-ESKD) Covid-19, at four Brazilian hemodialysis facilities. The Covid-ESKD (n = 107; 54% females; 60.8 ± 17.7 years) and No-Covid-ESKD (n = 107; 62% females; 58.4 ± 14.6 years) groups were matched by calendar time. The average BP and dialysis parameters were calculated during the pre-infection, acute infection, and post-infection periods. The main outcomes were Covid-19 hospitalization and all-cause mortality.Results Covid-ESKD patients had greater intradialytic and postdialysis systolic BP and lower predialysis weight, postdialysis weight, ultrafiltration rate, and interdialytic weight gain during acute-illness compared to 1-week-before-illness, while these changes were not observed in No-Covid-ESKD patients. After 286 days of follow-up (range, 276–591), there were 18 Covid-19-related hospitalizations and 28 deaths among Covid-ESKD patients. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that increases in predialysis systolic BP from 1-week-before-illness to acute-illness (OR, 95%CI = 1.06, 1.02–1.10; p = .004) and Covid-19 vaccination (OR, 95%CI = 0.16, 0.04–0.69; p = .014) were associated with hospitalization in Covid-ESKD patients. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi investigar a ocorrência de enterobactérias em passeriformes do gênero Sporophila, provenientes do tráfico ilegal de animais, e analisar sua resistência antimicrobiana. Um total de 35 aves, aparentemente saudáveis e provenientes de criações ilegais, foram encaminhadas ao Laboratório de Estudos Ornitológicos da Universidade Estadual do Ceará (Fortaleza, Ceará, Brasil) por órgãos ambientais. Amostras obtidas a partir de suabes cloacais foram coletadas de cada ave e submetidas a processamento microbiológico tradicional, utilizando técnicas padrão de cultivo e identificação bacteriana. O teste de sensibilidade aos antimicrobianos foi avaliado pelo método de disco de difusão. Das amostras examinadas, 23 (65,7%) apresentaram a presença de enterobactérias, sendo Escherichia coli (28,6%) e Serratia liquefaciens (25,7%) as mais frequentes. A resistência antimicrobiana referente aos isolados totais foi observada com mais frequência em relação à ciprofloxacina (28,1%), seguida por tetraciclina (25,0%) e enrofloxacina (18,8%). Especificamente em relação à Serratia liquefaciens, a taxa de resistência foi a mais altas, atingindo 66,6% dos isolados. Com base nos resultados obtidos, podemos concluir que as amostras cloacais das aves apresentaram isolamento de diversos membros da ordem Enterobacteriales, sendo E. coli e S. liquefaciens as mais frequentes. Também foi observada a ocorrência de resistência antimicrobiana a diversos fármacos utilizados, assim como casos de multiresistência, o que mostra que esse problema está presente em pássaros silvestres oriundo de manutenções ilegais. Isso ressalta a necessidade de considerar a presença de bactérias resistentes a antimicrobianos em programas de soltura, visando evitar a dispersão desses microrganismos no meio ambiente.

Introdução: A trombose relacionada ao cateter (TRC) é responsável pela maioria dos eventos trombóticos no neonato. Objetivo: Investigar a frequência da TRC, a associação com os dias de uso do cateter até o diagnóstico e o número de cateteres utilizados em uma Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal unicêntrico. Métodos: Estudo caso-controle que incluiu 14 casos e 42 controles. A coleta de dados ocorreu entre janeiro de 2017 e dezembro de 2020 em uma UTIN pública. Foram calculadas razões de chances brutas (COR). O estudo respeitou os padrões éticos das diretrizes nacionais. Resultados: Duzentos e noventa e quatro neonatos utilizaram cateter venoso central, dos quais 14 (4,7%) foram diagnosticados com TRC. O cateter em uso no momento do diagnóstico foi o cateter central inserido centralmente em 8 (57,1%). Antes do diagnóstico, o tempo acumulado de uso do cateter foi de 34,5 dias e a mediana do número de cateteres utilizados foi de três. Um maior número de dias de uso do cateter >30 (COR 19,11; IC 95% 2,28-160,10; p=0,007) e número de cateteres utilizados >3 (COR 7,66; IC 95% 1,51-38,70; p=0,01). Conclusão: Os casos de TRC foram associados à gravidade clínica; número de cateteres e dias cumulativos de uso do cateter. Sugerimos que o rastreamento de trombose seja realizado em neonatos que necessitem de longo tempo de uso do cateter e mais de três cateteres. Reduzir a duração e o número de cateteres venosos usados ajudará a reduzir a TRC.

O uso de simulações computacionais que representam experimentos reais de física médica é uma alternativa para diminuir custos e proporcionar uma maior variedade de experimentos que utilizam radiações ionizantes. O laboratório virtual permite explorar uma série de conceitos de maneira semelhante aos abordados experimentalmente, possibilitando utilizar uma infinidade de fontes, materiais e detectores sem agregar custos. Além disso, as simulações computacionais permitem explorar aspectos inatingíveis com os experimentos reais. Este artigo descreve a implementação de um Laboratório Virtual de Física Médica que, através de interfaces gráficas intuitivas, roteiros guiados e contextualização histórica explora experimentos de física médica amplamente utilizados nas áreas da medicina nuclear, radiodiagnóstico e radioterapia. Como exemplo, apresentamos o experimento de atenuação da radiação (raios X e gama) com a matéria. Os experimentos foram implementados através da linguagem de programação Python. A interface gráfica foi desenvolvida através do framework Streamlit. O uso do Laboratório Virtual de Física Médica tem se mostrado uma ferramenta alternativa para alinhar o ensino prático ao teórico.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: This study is justified by the interest of the area in question and the curiosity to know what methods and procedures are carried out on newborn pain, to help professionals and students to better understand the subject, in addition to showing the results obtained and help to improve care for this public. The objective of this study was to know the perceptions of nursing professionals working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and in the nursery about newborn (NB) pain and its management. METHODS: A descriptive, exploratory study with a qualitative approach. Technicians, assistants, and nurses who worked for at least three months in the NICU and nursery units of a philanthropic hospital participated in the research. Professionals who were on leave due to vacation or leave of any kind during the study period were excluded. A semi-structured interview was used, and a data analysis was carried out according to the content analysis proposed by Bardin. RESULTS: Twelve professionals, nine nursing technicians and three nurses participated in the research, of these, seven professionals working in the NICU and five in the nursery. From the analysis of the statements of the study participants, two categories emerged: perceptions of professionals regarding the identification and cause of pain in the NB; and NB pain assessment and management. CONCLUSION: The present study reveals the importance of identifying pain in the NB and its effective management, as the lack of appreciation for it can lead to more stress for the NB. Crying was the main characteristic identified by professionals when there is a NB with pain or some discomfort, therefore, mainly non-pharmacological methods are used for relief. Effective management should be seen as an indicator of the quality of care provided, ensuring humanized care, free from damage and with quality.

The current research took place at Saint Francis Hospital. It is a hospital based health survey using semi-structured questionnaire. A total number of 39 youths participated in the study, including 28 adolescents (71.8%) and 11 older youths (28.2%). The majority were single and school going girls. 37% of adolescent had their first sex intercourse on the year following menarche. The average ages at menarche and first sex were 13 years and 15 years respectively for both groups. Most girls (61.5%) did not know their HIV status while 38.5% were HIV negative. All pregnancies were unplanned and unwanted, resulting in induced abortions. The majority of abortions were unsafe and unsanitary, conducted in the bush, in homes/villages, at school, and sometimes in drug shops. They were either self induced or conducted by lay providers. Only 28.6% of adolescent had used contraceptives in the past, mostly condoms; as compared to 54.5% of older youths. 67.9% of adolescents and 81.8% of older youths were involved in risky, unstable relationships (multiple and/or concurrent sexual partners). The common complications of abortions were: retained product of conception, sepsis, haemorrhage, shock, pelvic infection, and lacerations of the cervix. Projects and programmes aiming at addressing unsafe sex and reproductive health needs among young people are urgently needed.

Summary: Background: Mucositis is a common and highly impactful side effect of conventional and emerging cancer therapy and thus the subject of intense investigation. Although common practice, mucositis assessment is heterogeneously adopted and poorly guided, impacting evidence synthesis and translation. The Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) Mucositis Study Group (MSG) therefore aimed to establish expert recommendations for how existing mucositis assessment tools should be used, in clinical care and trials contexts, to improve the consistency of mucositis assessment. Methods: This study was conducted over two stages (January 2022–July 2023). The first phase involved a survey to MASCC-MSG members (January 2022–May 2022), capturing current practices, challenges and preferences. These then informed the second phase, in which a set of initial recommendations were prepared and refined using the Delphi method (February 2023–May 2023). Consensus was defined as agreement on a parameter by >80% of respondents. Findings: Seventy-two MASCC-MSG members completed the first phase of the study (37 females, 34 males, mainly oral care specialists). High variability was noted in the use of mucositis assessment tools, with a high reliance on clinician assessment compared to patient reported outcome measures (PROMs, 47% vs 3%, 37% used a combination). The World Health Organization (WHO) and Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) scales were most commonly used to assess mucositis across multiple settings. Initial recommendations were reviewed by experienced MSG members and following two rounds of Delphi survey consensus was achieved in 91 of 100 recommendations. For example, in patients receiving chemotherapy, the recommended tool for clinician assessment in clinical practice is WHO for oral mucositis (89.5% consensus), and WHO or CTCAE for gastrointestinal mucositis (85.7% consensus). The recommended PROM in clinical trials is OMD/WQ for oral mucositis (93.3% consensus), and PRO-CTCAE for gastrointestinal mucositis (83.3% consensus). Interpretation: These new recommendations provide much needed guidance on mucositis assessment and may be applied in both clinical practice and research to streamline comparison and synthesis of global data sets, thus accelerating translation of new knowledge into clinical practice. O artigo teve por objetivo identificar as principais ocorrências jurídicas que ensejam responsabilização por Danos Existenciais no Direito do Trabalho, buscando aproximar esse instituto jurídico das temáticas de riscos psicossociais, saúde do trabalhador e relações de trabalho. Para tanto, buscou-se: a) identificar as principais ocorrências que ensejam responsabilização por danos existenciais no direito do trabalho; b) estabelecer relação dessas ocorrências com os fatores de risco psicossocial no trabalho e c) identificar riscos psicossociais subordinados às ocorrências principais. Optou-se pelo formato de ensaio teórico, pautado por uma revisão da literatura do tipo narrativa, incluindo a jurisprudência brasileira. Os resultados indicaram que os casos de danos existenciais orbitam ao redor da Jornada de trabalho excessiva, Assédio moral e sexual; Acidentes de trabalho; Lesões por Esforços Repetitivos (LER) e Distúrbios Osteomusculares Relacionados ao Trabalho (DORT), e Trabalho análogo ao escravo. Como riscos psicossociais associados a estes fatores estão o não direito à desconexão; o trabalho precário; e o burnout. Concluiu-se que as decisões jurídicas acerca do dano existencial precisam ser amplificadas a fim de abarcar os diferentes riscos psicossociais associados a esse instituto jurídico e que deva ser considerado o instituto do dano existencial coletivo. Sugere-se, por fim, que esse tipo de reparação no campo da responsabilidade civil faça parte das discussões acadêmicas e empresariais, sobretudo, no que tange às relações de trabalho e à prevenção de riscos psicossociais.

O trabalho rural é fundamental para o desenvolvimento econômico do Brasil, porém, a precarização das condições laborais nesse setor contribui para problemas de saúde física e mental entre os trabalhadores. Este artigo visa analisar os dados de saúde mental da população agrícola para melhorar o tratamento de sua saúde psicológica e física. A negligência em relação aos problemas psicofísicos dos trabalhadores rurais é comum, devido à percepção equivocada de que esses trabalhadores desfrutam de uma qualidade de vida superior. No entanto, as condições do trabalho rural não os imunizam contra doenças físicas e mentais. Além disso, o isolamento geográfico dificulta o acesso dos trabalhadores aos serviços de saúde mental disponíveis para trabalhadores urbanos. Para lidar com esses desafios, é essencial uma abordagem interdisciplinar entre o Direito e a Psicologia. Somente através dessa colaboração será possível identificar as necessidades específicas dos trabalhadores rurais em termos de saúde mental e direitos trabalhistas, além de promover intervenções e soluções personalizadas para esse grupo.

Este estudo tratou das intencionalidades pedagógicas para as transformações de sentido e de currículo da Educação Física na escola, analisadas especificamente nos jogos esportivos da escola. Assim, a partir de um relato de experiência produzido no ‘chão da escola’, são descritas a proposta, seus tensionamentos e suas ressonâncias. Foram problematizadas a esportivização da escola e as incorporações de sentidos e comportamentos decorrentes desse processo. De forma mais específica, a naturalização das violências, a separação e hierarquia dos papéis de gênero, e a supervalorização da ‘vitória a qualquer custo’ foram elementos que geraram certo desconforto docente, e sobre os quais os docentes decidiram atuar. Foram construídos uma direção e um sentido para as transformações intencionadas na Educação Física escolar. Um modelo mais amadurecido dos jogos passa necessariamente por insistências e por recuos, mas foi possível entender que ele deve ser produzido na participação coletiva, democrática e mais horizontalizada entre corpo docente e discente.

Em uma perspectiva bourdieusiana, foram realizadas entrevistas, com seis professoras(es) negras(os) da Educação Básica, sobre suas trajetórias acadêmicas e práticas pedagógicas de mediação de conflitos, para inferir a existência ou ausência, de uma disposição antirracista. A geração ou ativação dessa disposição ocorreu durante o curso de graduação em interações sociais solidárias com colegas e participação em coletivos negros que atuam politicamente e promovem atividades culturais. Espaços universitários informais, mais do que o currículo, promoveram um sentido positivo de pertencimento étnico-racial e integração à vida acadêmica. Já a agência docente para o enfrentamento de expressões de racismo varia de acordo com os contextos escolares que podem fortalecer ou inibir a disposição antirracista, dependendo do reconhecimento do racismo institucional pela comunidade escolar.

A educação moral é de grande relevância para o desenvolvimento do ser humano, as abordagens morais, quando inseridas nos currículos, contribuem na qualificação docente e melhoria do processo de ensino-aprendizagem. Considerando essas questões, esta pesquisa centralizou-se na educação em valores morais nos espaços escolares, destacando a sua importância no ensino de Ciências. O objetivo foi traçar um perfil sobre formação moral apresentado por professores de Ciências. O referencial teórico foi baseado nas cinco linhas paradigmáticas de Puig. É uma pesquisa qualitativa, em que a obtenção dos dados foi realizada por meio da escala Likert, um questionário aplicado para dez professores. Os resultados indicaram que a maioria dos professores apresentou um perfil paradigmático sobre formação moral polissêmico e conhecimento superficial.

Abstract Sustainable forest management (SFM) is a rational exploitation practice adopted in the Caatinga. This study aimed to evaluate the stock and the nutritional and organic composition of litter in Caatinga subjected to different forest management practices: shallow cutting (SC), selective thinning by minimum diameter (STMD), and selective thinning by species (STS), and using unmanaged Caatinga (control) as a reference, in dry and rainy seasons. There were a significant increase in total litter in STS and a decrease in stocks of STMD, shallow cutting and unmanaged forest. Forest management reduced leaves in the accumulated litter in both seasons and increased contribution from branches. The STS management promoted maintenance of the stock and nutritional and organic quality of the litter, bringing it closer to the condition of unmanaged natural forest in both climatic seasons. So, should be encouraged for a more sustainable management of the Brazilian phyto-physiognomy Caatinga.

Abstract Strategies for evaluating oat leaf diseases and using cultivars for pesticide-free growing enable more sustainable managements with food safety. The objectives of this study were to determine the optimal timing for assessing genetic variability of resistance to leaf diseases among Brazilian oat cultivars through analysis of necrotic leaf area; and identify the most suitable cultivars for agroecologically-based production systems through analysis of grain yield and necrotic leaf area using adaptability and stability parameters. The experiment was carried out in Augusto Pestana, RS, Brazil, using a randomized block design with three replications for evaluating 22 Brazilian oat cultivars (recommended and no longer recommended for cultivation) grown under no fungicide applications, from 2015 to 2020. Necrotic leaf area was measured at 60, 75, 90, 105, and 120 days after plant emergence (DAE), using the WinDIAS software (Copyright 2012, Delta-T Devices Limited); grain yield was determined after harvesting grains with approximately 15% moisture. Regarding the necrotic leaf area analysis, the highest genetic variability of resistance to leaf diseases in the Brazilian oat cultivars evaluated was observed between 90 and 105 DAE. Regarding grain yield and necrotic leaf area, the oat cultivars URS Altiva, URS Charrua, UPFPS Farroupilha, and UPFA Gauderia stood out as the most suitable genetic resources for agroecologically-based production systems.

Abstract Meteorological conditions affect the dynamics of nitrogen (N) by oat crops. Fuzzy logic allows the development of simulation models involving N management and the non-linearity of meteorological conditions. The objective of this study was to identify the most sustainable N management for oat crops considering N rates applied at sowing and as top-dressing with different timing. Potential variables were selected for the development of a rule base for fuzzy modeling and simulate grain yield for N managements considering the non-linearity of meteorological conditions. The experiment was carried out in Augusto Pestana, RS, Brazil, from 2015 to 2017. A randomized block design with four replications was used, in a 4×3 factorial arrangement, consisted of four N rates applied at sowing (0, 10, 30 and 60 kg/ha), using total N top-dressing rates of 70 kg/ha for the soybean-oat and 100 kg/ha for the maize-oat, applied at three timings (10, 30, and 60 days after emergence). The most sustainable N managements for oat crops were under absence of N and application 10 kg/ha of N at sowing, with the remainder applied as top-dressing at 10 and 30 days after emergence. The N application timing, mean air temperature, and rainfall depth are potential variables for the development of a rule base for fuzzy modeling, and efficient in simulating oat grain yield.

ABSTRACT: Plant selection conducted in commercial orchards is mainly based on plant features. This study characterizes and selects acerola tree genotypes with promising features for cultivation in the Gurguéia Valley region, Piauí. Twenty-five genotypes were used, consisting of 15 clones (CL 03, CL 08, CL 09, CL 12, CL 13, CL 14, CL 20, CL 23, CL 26, CL 27, CL 30, CL 31, CL 33, CL 36, and CL 38) and 10 cultivars (BRS 235, BRS 236, BRS 237, BRS 238, BRS 366, Sertaneja, Costa Rita, Morena, Tropicana, and Junko). The experiment was set up in a randomized block design with three blocks and three plants per experimental unit in 4 m x 3 m spacing. A total of 40% of the genotypes evaluated showed an umbrella shape, 36% showed a semi-open shape, and 24% showed an open shape. Clones 09, 14, and 12 presented the highest cultivation potential in the region, with monthly production of 5.01, 4.30, and 3.70 kg plant-¹ per year and productivity of 4.16, 3.59, and 3. 08-ton ha-¹, respectively. Clone 27, cultivars BRS 236 and BRS 235, and clone 14 were the earliest genotypes, requiring 1,503.3, 1,535.6, 1,686.6, and 1,686.6 DD; respectively, to complete their cycle. Clones 09 and 14 stood out from the others and are potentially promising for cultivation in the Gurgueia Valley region.
