Landslide event inventories are one of the most critical datasets to increase knowledge on landslide occurrences. However, they are rarely available in various regions, especially in countries of the Global South. This study aims to generate rainfall-induced landslide event inventories and define the rainfall thresholds responsible for landslide occurrence at the national scale of Malawi, Africa. We mainly followed a three-step methodology to generate landslide inventories. First, we went through media reports to identify documented landslide events. Second, we used Sentinel-2 images to identify possible areas affected by landslides using automated change detection algorithms based on vegetation indices. Third, we manually went through optical images provided by Planet Lab and Google Earth and mapped landslides via visual image interpretation. Overall, we mapped 27 rainfall-induced landslide inventories between 2003 and 2022, with a total of 4709 individual landslides. We then analysed the Malawian terrain and identified two different landscape clusters (i.e. Cluster 1 and Cluster 2) showing similar morphometric and climatic conditions. Ultimately, we calculated the rainfall threshold for each landscape cluster. The minimum rainfall amounts responsible for landsliding correspond to 66 mm/two-day and 51 mm/day in Clusters 1 and 2, respectively. In this context, our paper not only presents and shares the first national-scale, digital rainfall-induced landslide event inventory database of Malawi but also suitable rainfall thresholds to be potentially exploited for a national scale landslide early warning system. Change detection is crucial for evaluating land use, land cover changes, and sustainable development, constituting a significant component of Earth observation tasks. The difficulty in extracting features from high-resolution images, coupled with the complexity of image content, poses challenges for traditional change detection algorithms in terms of accuracy and applicability. The recent emergence of deep learning methods has led to substantial progress in the field of change detection. However, existing frameworks often involve the simplistic integration of bi-temporal features in specific areas, lacking the fusion of temporal information and semantic details in the images. In this paper, we propose an attention-guided multi-scale fusion network (AMFNet), which effectively integrates bi-temporal image features and diverse semantics at both the encoding and decoding stages. AMFNet utilizes a unique attention-guided mechanism to dynamically adjust feature fusion, enhancing adaptability and accuracy in change detection tasks. Our method intelligently incorporates temporal information into the deep learning model, considering the temporal dependency inherent in these tasks. We decode based on an interactive feature map, which improves the model's understanding of evolving patterns over time. Additionally, we introduce multi-level supervised training to facilitate the learning of fused features across multiple scales. In comparison with different algorithms, our proposed method achieves F1 values of 0.9079, 0.8225, and 0.8809 in the LEVIR-CD, GZ-CD, and SYSU-CD datasets, respectively. Our model outperforms the SOTA model, SAGNet, by 0.69% in terms of F1 and 1.15% in terms of IoU on the LEVIR-CD dataset, by 2.8% in terms of F1 and 1.79% in terms of IoU on the GZ-CD dataset, and by 0.54% in terms of F1 and 0.38% in terms of IoU on the SYSU-CD dataset. On-shelf availability (OSA) refers to the number of products available in saleable condition to a customer at the place he expects and at the time he wants to buy the product. OSA of the products in retail stores is important to enhance the customer shopping experience and profitability. The products on the retail store shelves are arranged strategically. This arrangement may be changed during shopping, because it is observed that customers may not move the products in the same or at the right place when they pick them up from the shelf. In such real-time scenarios, it would be appropriate to perform shelf image analysis to detect and identify these misplaced objects. This will help the shopkeeper to maintain a large-scale store effortlessly, otherwise it will require massive human effort and labour along with time. Many computer vision-based technology solutions have been developed by researchers to solve this problem. This article discusses a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based method for classifying shelf imagery into the correct semantic classes (that is whether it has misplaced products or not). The proposed architecture was evaluated with a modified COIL-100 dataset. The results of the proposed CNN model were compared with the variant of the proposed model in addition to lightweight pre-trained deep learning models viz; mobilenetV2, densenet121, efficientnetb0, efficientnetb3, and NASNetMobile using transfer learning (TL) concept. According to this study, it has been found that the TL-based MobilenetV2 model is lightweight and achieves better classification performance with 91.28% accuracy. Motion silencing is a striking and unexplained visual illusion wherein changes that are otherwise salient become difficult to perceive when the changing elements also move. We develop a new method for quantifying illusion strength (Experiments 1a and 1b), and we demonstrate a privileged role for rotational motion on illusion strength compared with highly controlled stimuli that lack rotation (Experiments 2a to 3b). These contrasts make it difficult to explain the illusion in terms of lower-level detection limits. Instead, we explain the illusion as a failure to attribute changes to locations. Rotation exacerbates the illusion because its perception relies upon structured object representations. This aggravates the difficulty of attributing changes by demanding that locations are referenced relative to both an object-internal frame and an external frame. Two final experiments (4a and 4b) add support to this account by employing a synchronously rotating external frame of reference that diminishes otherwise strong motion silencing. Reliable and up-to-date training reference samples are imperative for land cover (LC) classification. However, such training datasets are not always available in practice. The sample migration method has shown remarkable success in addressing this challenge in recent years. This work investigated the application of Sentinel-1 (S1) and Sentinel-2 (S2) data in training sample migration. In addition, the impact of various spectral bands and polarizations on the accuracy of the migrated training samples was also assessed. Subsequently, combined S1 and S2 images were classified using the Support Vector Machines (SVM) and Random Forest (RF) classifiers to produce annual LC maps from 2017 to 2021. The results showed a higher accuracy (98.25%) in training sample migrations using both images in comparison to using S1 (87.68%) and S2 (96.82%) data independently. Among the LC classes, the highest accuracy in migrated training samples was found for water, built-up, bare land, grassland, cropland, and wetland. Inquiries on the efficiency of different spectral bands and polarization used in training sample migration showed that bands 4 and 8 and VV polarization in the water class were more important, while for the wetland class, bands 5, 6, 7, 8, and 8A together with VV polarization showed superior performance. The results showed that the RF classifier provided better performance than the SVM (higher overall, producer, and user accuracy). The Earth has been undergoing continuous anthropogenic and natural change. High spatial resolution (HSR) remote sensing imagery provides a unique opportunity to accurately reveal these changes on a planetary scale. Semantic change detection (SCD) with HSR imagery has become a common technique for tracking the evolution of land surface types at a semantic level. However, existing SCD methods rarely model the dependency between semantics and changes, resulting in suboptimal accuracy in detecting complicated surface changes. To address this limitation, we propose ClearSCD, a multi-task learning model that leverages the mutual gain relationship between semantics and change through three innovative modules. The first module interprets semantic features at different times into posterior probabilities for surface types to detect binary change information; the second module learns the correlation between surface types over time and the binary change information; a semantic augmented contrastive learning module is used as the third module to improve the performance of the other two modules. We tested ClearSCD's performance against state-of-the-art methods on benchmark datasets and a real-world scenario (named LsSCD dataset), showing that ClearSCD outperformed the alternatives on mIoU sc metrics by 1.23% to 19.34%. Furthermore, ablation experiments demonstrated the unique contribution of the three innovative modules to performance improvement. The high computational efficiency and robust performance over diverse landscapes demonstrate that ClearSCD is an operational tool for detecting detailed land surface changes from HSR imagery. Topographic change detection is increasingly being used to identify and monitor landslides and other geohazards in support of risk-informed decision-making. Expanding change detection from site specific to regional scales enables increasingly proactive asset management and contributes to improving the resilience of infrastructure to extreme events. It is widely known that change detection precision can be improved by applying three-dimensional algorithms, such as iterative closest point (ICP) and M3C2, directly to raw point clouds. However, this also increases the computational requirements compared to alternatives such as digital elevation model differencing. This study presents a novel graphics processing unit (GPU)-based implementation of the ICP-M3C2 workflow to address this limitation. In the proposed algorithm, point cloud data segments are automatically queued and served to the working GPU, which efficiently performs point cloud processing operations, while the central processing unit (CPU) performs data management operations in parallel. The developed method is estimated to be up to 54 times faster than CPU-based versions of the same algorithm. In this study, we present how the workflow has been applied to six regional-scale landslide identification and monitoring case studies in which landslides are causing the disruption of pipelines, highways, and rail corridors. Networks have been widely employed to reflect the relationships of entities in complex systems. In a weighted network, each node corresponds to one entity while the edge weight between two nodes can represent the number of interactions between two associated entities. More and more schemes have been established to monitor the networks, which help identify the possible changes or anomalies in corresponding systems. However, limited works can comprehensively reflect the community structure, node heterogeneity, interaction sparsity and direction of weighted networks in the literature. This article proposes a log-linear stochastic block model with latent features of nodes based on the mixture of Bernoulli distribution and Poisson distribution to characterize the sparse directional interaction counts within network systems. Explicit matrices and vectors are designed to incorporate community structure and enable straightforward maximum likelihood estimation of parameters. We further construct a monitoring statistic based on the generalized likelihood ratio test for change detection of sparse weighted networks. Graffiti, by their very nature, are ephemeral, sometimes even vanishing before creators finish them. This transience is part of graffiti's allure yet signifies the continuous loss of this often disputed form of cultural heritage. To counteract this, graffiti documentation efforts have steadily increased over the past decade. One of the primary challenges in any documentation endeavour is identifying and recording new creations. Image‐based change detection can greatly help in this process, effectuating more comprehensive documentation, less biased digital safeguarding and improved understanding of graffiti. This paper introduces a novel and largely automated image‐based graffiti change detection method. The methodology uses an incremental structure‐from‐motion approach and synthetic cameras to generate co‐registered graffiti images from different areas. These synthetic images are fed into a hybrid change detection pipeline combining a new pixel‐based change detection method with a feature‐based one. The approach was tested on a large and publicly available reference dataset captured along the Donaukanal (Eng. Danube Canal), one of Vienna's graffiti hotspots. With a precision of 87% and a recall of 77%, the results reveal that the proposed change detection workflow can indicate newly added graffiti in a monitored graffiti‐scape, thus supporting a more comprehensive graffiti documentation. Tracking long-term tidal flat dynamics is crucial for coastal restoration decision making. Accurately capturing the loss and gain of tidal flats due to human-induced disturbances is challenging in the micro-tidal areas. In this study, we developed an automated method for mapping the annual tidal flat changes in the micro-tidal areas under intense human activities, by integrating spectral harmonization, time series segmentation from dual spectral indices, and the tide-independent hierarchical classification strategy. Our method has two key novelties. First, we adopt flexible temporal segments for each pixel based on the dual full-time series spectral indices, instead of solely using a fixed period window, to help obtain more reliable inundation frequency features. Second, a tide-independent hierarchical classification strategy based on the inundation features and the Otsu algorithm capture the tidal flat changes well. Our method performed well in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao (GHKM), a typical area with micro-tidal range and intense human activities, with overall accuracies of 89% and 92% for conversion types and turning years, respectively. The tidal flats in GHKM decreased by 24% from 1986 to 2021, resulting from the loss of 504.45 km2, partially offset by an accretion of 179.88 km2. Further, 70.9% of the total loss was in the Great Bay Area, concentrated in 1991–1998 and 2001–2016. The historical trajectories of tidal flat loss were driven by various policies implemented by the national, provincial, and local governments. In the domains of geographic information systems and remote sensing image analysis, change detection is vital for examining surface variations in high-resolution remote sensing pictures. However, the intricate texture characteristics and rich details found in high-resolution remote sensing photos are difficult for conventional change detection systems to deal with. Target misdetection, missed detections, and edge blurring are further problems with current deep learning-based methods. This research proposes a high-resolution city change detection network based on difference and attention mechanisms under multi-scale feature fusion (MDANet) to address these issues and improve the accuracy of change detection. First, to extract features from dual-temporal remote sensing pictures, we use the Siamese architecture as the encoder network. The Difference Feature Module (DFM) is employed to learn the difference information between the dual-temporal remote sensing images. Second, the extracted difference features are optimized with the Attention Refinement Module (ARM). The Cross-Scale Fusion Module (CSFM) combines and enhances the optimized attention features, effectively capturing subtle differences in remote sensing images and learning the finer details of change targets. Cultivated land plays a fundamental role in the sustainable development of the world. Monitoring the non-agricultural changes is important for the development of land-use policies. A bitemporal image transformer (BIT) can achieve high accuracy for change detection (CD) tasks and also become a key scientific tool to support decision-making. Because of the diversity of high-resolution RSIs in series, the complexity of agricultural types, and the irregularity of hierarchical semantics in different types of changes, the accuracy of non-agricultural CD is far below the need for the management of the land and for resource planning. In this paper, we proposed a novel non-agricultural CD method to improve the accuracy of machine processing. First, multi-resource surveying data are collected to produce a well-tagged dataset with cultivated land and non-agricultural changes. Secondly, a hierarchical semantic aggregation mechanism and attention module (HSAA) bitemporal image transformer method named HSAA-CD is performed for non-agricultural CD in cultivated land. The proposed HSAA-CD added a hierarchical semantic aggregation mechanism for clustering the input data for U-Net as the backbone network and an attention module to improve the feature edge. Experiments were performed on the open-source LEVIR-CD and WHU Building-CD datasets as well as on the self-built RSI dataset. The F1-score, intersection over union (IoU), and overall accuracy (OA) of these three datasets were 88.56%, 84.29%, and 68.50%; 79.84%, 73.41%, and 59.29%; and 98.83%, 98.39%, and 93.56%, respectively. The results indicated that the proposed HSAA-CD method outperformed the BIT and some other state-of-the-art methods and proved to be suitable accuracy for non-agricultural CD in cultivated land. Change detection has always played a crucial role in observing the Earth's surface. Although visual Transformers (ViTs) have achieved excellent performance in change detection, they require high computational complexity. In addition, it does not explicitly address the differences caused by factors such as climate, lighting, and shooting angle in remote sensing (RS) image pairs. Therefore, we propose an efficient, lightweight Siamese network that considers multi-dimensional feature interaction. Firstly, we use a lightweight Transformer-based headless backbone network to extract feature information at each stage for bi-temporal images. To better capture the details and structure of images and eliminate the adverse effects of climate, lighting, and shooting angle, we design a multidimensional feature interaction method that uses spatial, channel, and amplitude dimension interaction methods after feature extraction operations at different stages. Furthermore, this approach achieves domain adaptation between bi-temporal domains to a certain extent while preserving the original semantic correspondence. Comprehensive experiments and extensive ablation studies on two common datasets, LEVIR-CD and S2Looking, have shown that our method achieves better performance with fewer parameters. The pivotal task of remote sensing image (RSI) processing change detection (CD) highly aims to accurately detect changes in land cover based on multi-temporal images. With the advent of deep learning, technology has delivered remarkable results in the last years in the detection of variations in forest land cover data. Some of the conventional CD techniques are weak and are highly susceptible to errors and can result even in inaccurate outcomes. Thus, certain techniques are not desirable for real-time CD applications. To abridge this gap, this research introduces an innovative work for forest CD utilizing the proposed Taylor Shepherd Golden Optimization_ResUNet (TSGO_ResUNet) and Fuzzy Neural network (Fuzzy NN) for segment mapping. Here, the segmentation process is accomplished using ResUNet to determine the exact boundary or shape of each object for every pixel in the image. Furthermore, TSGO is achieved by consolidating Taylor Shuffled Shepherd Optimization (TSSO) with Golden Search Optimization (GSO). This study introduces an enhanced octree-based framework for integrated geotechnical analysis, combining geological, microseismic, and Mobile Laser Scanning (MLS)-based change detection data. Our approach leverages efficient statistical inference-based change detection techniques and additional octree data structures, enabling voxel-level data integration and association, semantic clustering, and comprehensive geotechnical analysis. We detail the implementation of our method, demonstrating capabilities such as integrating geological fault data, seismic energy exposure modeling, and combination of Random Sample Consensus (RANSAC) classification with Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise (DBSCAN). We conduct a suite of statistical analyses to investigate multi-dimensional trends and correlations among MLS-measured changes, distances to geological faults, and seismic energy exposure. We found that binary change classification and change magnitude negatively correlate with three investigated fault-distance metrics. Multivariant analysis reveals that increased seismic energy exposure and decreased fault distance positively correlates with MLS-based change classification and magnitudes. Our findings imply that proximity to geological faults and seismic energy exposure can be statistically linked to increases in geotechnically relevant deformations. This study is the first to demonstrate that octree-based MLS data processing can reveal multi-dimensional trends in underground mine datasets, thereby enhancing understanding of complex geomechanical behaviors crucial for mining productivity and safety. This letter presents a novel method for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image change detection using the global patch similarity-based graph (GPSG). First, the SAR image is divided into a number of square patches, which are then vectorized and stacked to form a global patch matrix (GPM). The GPSG is constructed by connecting the global similar patches that are selected through traversing the GPM. With the support of GPSG, the second-order random walk matrix is designed to widely aggregate the attributes of patches within the two-hop global neighbourhood. The difference image with good separability can be generated by comparing bitemporal patches and their aggregated attributes. Finally, the Otsu thresholding is adopted to obtain the change map showing changed and unchanged portions. Deep models may have disappointing performance in real applications due to the domain shifts in data distributions between the source and target domain. Although a few unsupervised domain adaptation methods have been proposed to make the pre-train models effective on target domain datasets, constraints like data privacy, security, and transmission limits restrict access to VHR remote sensing images, making existing unsupervised domain adaptation methods almost ineffective in specific change detection areas. Therefore, we propose a source-free unsupervised domain adaptation change detection structure to complete specific change detection tasks, using only the pre-trained source model and unlabelled target data. The GAN-based source generation component is designed to generate synthetic source data, which, to some extent, reflects the distribution of the source domain. Moreover, these data can be utilised in model knowledge transfer. The model adaptation component facilitates knowledge transfer between models by minimising the differences between deep features, using AAM (Attention Adaptation Module) to extract the difference between high-level features, meanwhile we proposed ISM (Intra-domain Self-supervised Module) to train target model in a self-supervised strategy in order to improve the knowledge adaptation. Our SFDA-CD framework demonstrates superior accuracy over existing unsupervised domain adaptation change detection methods, which has 0.6% cIoU and 1.5% F1 score up in cross-regional tasks and 1.4% cIoU and 1.9% F1 score up in cross-scenario tasks, proving that it can effectively reduce the domain shift between the source and target domains even without access to source data. Change detection is widely used in the field of building monitoring. In recent years, the progress of remote sensing image technology has provided high-resolution data. However, unlike other tasks, change detection focuses on the difference between dual-input images, so the interaction between bi-temporal features is crucial. However, the existing methods have not fully tapped the potential of multi-scale bi-temporal features to interact layer by layer. Therefore, this paper proposes a multi-scale feature interaction network (MFINet). The network realizes the information interaction of multi-temporal images by inserting a bi-temporal feature interaction layer (BFIL) between backbone networks at the same level, guides the attention to focus on the difference region, and suppresses the interference. At the same time, a double temporal feature fusion layer (BFFL) is used at the end of the coding layer to extract subtle difference features. By introducing the transformer decoding layer and improving the recovery effect of the feature size, the ability of the network to accurately capture the details and contour information of the building is further improved. The F1 of our model on the public dataset LEVIR-CD reaches 90.12%, which shows better accuracy and generalization performance than many state-of-the-art change detection models. Natural hazards are considered to have a strong link with climate change and human activities. With the rapid advancements in remote sensing technology, real-time monitoring and high-resolution remote-sensing images have become increasingly available, which provide precise details about the Earth's surface and enable prompt updates to support risk identification and management. This paper proposes a new network framework with Transformer architecture and a Residual network for detecting the changes in high-resolution remote-sensing images. The proposed model is trained using remote-sensing images from Shandong and Anhui Provinces of China in 2021 and 2022 while one district in 2023 is used to test the prediction accuracy. The performance of the proposed model is evaluated by using five matrices and further compared to both convention-based and attention-based models. The results demonstrated that the proposed structure integrates the great capability of conventional neural networks for image feature extraction with the ability to obtain global context from the attention mechanism, resulting in significant improvements in balancing positive sample identification while avoiding false positives in complex image change detection. This paper introduces an AI-based approach to detect human-made objects and changes in these on land parcels. To this end, we used binary image classification performed by a convolutional neural network. Binary classification requires the selection of a decision boundary, and we provided a deterministic method for this selection. Furthermore, we varied different parameters to improve the performance of our approach, leading to a true positive rate of 91.3% and a true negative rate of 63.0%. A specific application of our work supports the administration of agricultural land parcels eligible for subsidiaries. Relative radiometric normalization (RRN) is a critical pre-processing step that enables accurate comparisons of multitemporal remote-sensing (RS) images through unsupervised change detection. Although existing RRN methods generally have promising results in most cases, their effectiveness depends on specific conditions, especially in scenarios with land cover/land use (LULC) in image pairs in different locations. These methods often overlook these complexities, potentially introducing biases to RRN results, mainly because of the use of spatially aligned pseudo-invariant features (PIFs) for modeling. To address this, we introduce a location-independent RRN (LIRRN) method in this study that can automatically identify non-spatially matched PIFs based on brightness characteristics. Additionally, as a fast and coregistration-free model, LIRRN complements keypoint-based RRN for more accurate results in applications where coregistration is crucial. The LIRRN process starts with segmenting reference and subject images into dark, gray, and bright zones using the multi-Otsu threshold technique. PIFs are then efficiently extracted from each zone using nearest-distance-based image content matching without any spatial constraints. These PIFs construct a linear model during subject–image calibration on a band-by-band basis. The performance evaluation involved tests on five registered/unregistered bitemporal satellite images, comparing results from three conventional methods: histogram matching (HM), blockwise KAZE, and keypoint-based RRN algorithms. Experimental results consistently demonstrated LIRRN's superior performance, particularly in handling unregistered datasets. LIRRN also exhibited faster execution times than blockwise KAZE and keypoint-based approaches while yielding results comparable to those of HM in estimating normalization coefficients. Metropolitan planning has been a dominant trend in spatial development for decades. In this context, Functional Urban Areas (FUAs) have emerged as a concept to illustrate the economic interdependencies between an urban core and its hinterland, being typically determined by commuting patterns or accessibility criteria. In Romania, FUAs were defined for the county capitals (40 cities) as areas where urban development projects could be financed from regional development funds. This paper analyzes the territorial dynamics in one of Romania's fastest-growing functional urban areas, Cluj-Napoca, using a comparative analysis of satellite images and selected indicators. The results demonstrate the spatial impact of economic development in the past 20 years, revealing expanding boundaries of artificial surface and housing units in FUAs. Unfortunately, the current fragmented territorial configuration is unable to manage the new functional relationships generated by real estate dynamics. Therefore, we support the need to introduce a normative territorial plan at the intercommunity level to correlate the spatial development vision between the main city and its fast-growing suburban areas. Such an instrument will not only support an efficient land-use management and enhanced living conditions, but it will also provide a framework to systematically integrate territorial investments around major cities. The aim of the paper is to introduce appropriate tools for quantifying the changes occurred at edge level when analyzing land cover changes. The research is conducted in two directions. Firstly, the binary change index at edge level is introduced and its relationship to the already existing binary change edge (computed at pixel level) is studied. It is proved that a certain inequality between the values of the two indices holds. The theoretical part is completed with real-world examples. The second direction investigated in the paper is the possibility of applying Markov type models, a basic tool in land cover change analysis, in quantifying the changes occurred at edge level. This combined approach is illustrated by a case study and it is shown that it provides complementary information related to the spatial extension of the land cover types and to their distribution. Characterizing and understanding the changes in the flow regimes of rivers have been challenging. Existing global river network data sets are not updated and can only identify rivers wider than 30 m. We propose a novel automated method to map river networks on a monthly basin scale for the first time at 10‐m resolution using Sentinel‐1 Synthetic Aperture Radar, Sentinel‐2 multispectral images, and the AW3D30 Digital Surface Model. This method achieved an overall accuracy of 95.8%. The total length of the Yellow River network produced is 40,280 km, approximately 3.2 times that of the Global River Widths from Landsat (GRWL) database, more effectively covering small and medium rivers. The monthly river geometry revealed a positive correlation between river network area and precipitation. This study is expected to provide a cost‐effective alternative to accurately mapping global river networks and advance our understanding of the changes and drivers of river systems. Small tributaries are important components in river network evolution and water transmission. By integrating multispectral and radar satellite remote sensing images as well as topographic data, we created continuous monthly river network maps at the basin scale, allowing us to capture the details of dynamic changes in river networks with higher spatiotemporal resolution. Change detection in remote sensing imagery is vital for Earth monitoring but faces challenges such as background complexity and pseudo-changes. Effective interaction between bitemporal images is crucial for accurate change information extraction. This paper presents a multistage interaction network designed for effective change detection, incorporating interaction at the image, feature, and decision levels. At the image level, change information is directly extracted from intensity changes, mitigating potential change information loss during feature extraction. Instead of separately extracting features from bitemporal images, the feature-level interaction jointly extracts features from bitemporal images. By enhancing relevance to spatial variant information and shared semantic channels, the network excels in overcoming background complexity and pseudo-changes. The decision-level interaction combines image-level and feature-level interactions, producing multiscale feature differences for precise change prediction. Our study addresses the need for universal monitoring solutions given the diverse environmental impacts of surface mining operations. We present a solution combining remote sensing and machine learning techniques, utilizing a dataset of over 2000 satellite images annotated with ten distinct labels indicating mining area components. We tested various approaches to develop comprehensive yet universal machine learning models for mining area segmentation. This involved considering different types of mines, raw materials, and geographical locations. We evaluated multiple satellite data set combinations to determine optimal outcomes. The results suggest that radar and multispectral data fusion did not significantly improve the models' performance, and the addition of further channels led to the degradation of the metrics. Despite variations in mine type or extracted material, the models' effectiveness remained within an Intersection over Union value range of 0.65–0.75. Further, in this research, we conducted a detailed visual analysis of the models' outcomes to identify areas requiring additional attention, contributing to the discourse on effective mining area monitoring and management methodologies. Change detection (CD) has a significant application in the remote sensing field. Because of the popularity of hyperspectral image (HSI) and the application of deep learning methods, hyperspectral image change detection (HSI-CD) techniques have been greatly developed. Among them, convolutional neural network (CNN) has garnered the greatest interest in HSI-CD due to their superior feature learning capabilities. However, current CNN-based algorithms have trouble capturing spectral similarity and long-range dependency owing to their intrinsic structural restrictions. Recently, transformers have been shown to extract global dependency from nature images in an extremely efficient way. But it has some difficulties in handling high-dimensional data, such as HSI. To address these issues, we propose an improved multi-scale and spectral-wise transformer (MS-SWT). The proposed MS-SWT is capable of capturing spectral similarity and long-range dependence between bands to enhance the efficiency of the HSI-CD task. Furthermore, to maximize the utilization of spatial information, we present a multi-scale feature fusion module (MFFM) to extract and fuse different dimensions of spatial features. More importantly, a locality self-attention (LSA) module is employed to alleviate the problem of smoothing the distribution of attention scores due to the large number of spectral embeddings. Moreover, we design a channel self-supervised loss function that can capture intrinsic information from the spectral channels to further strengthen the robustness of model training when the training samples are scarce. Lastly, comprehensive experiments present the high performance of our MS-SWT on four bitemporal HSI datasets and demonstrate the superiority of MS-SWT over state-of-the-art approaches. The study conducted in Jammu District, India, investigates land use and land cover (LULC) transformations over the past three decades using satellite data and remote sensing techniques. Analyzing data from 1990 to 2020, significant changes were observed. Agricultural land expanded by 157.76 km2 (6.71%), barren land by 151.69 km2 (6.45%), and settlements by 96.97 km2 (4.12%). However, vegetation decreased by 389.77 km2 (16.57%), while water bodies experienced minimal changes. Land Surface Temperature (LST) analysis, utilizing MODIS data (2000-2020), revealed warming trends, with temperatures ranging from 15.92°C to 42.77°C in 2010 and 14.04°C to 37.01°C in 2020. Notably, NDVI values peaked in 2020 (0.759) and were lowest in 1990 (−0.243), indicating healthier vegetation and lower surface temperatures. This inverse correlation highlights NDVI's potential as an indicator for assessing vegetation health and its impact on local temperature conditions. Man-Kendall Z statistics indicated negative trends for Tmax and Tmin, while rainfall data showed significant positive trend. Population growth, urbanization, climate change and agricultural intensification emerged as principal drivers of the LULC changes in the region. Remote sensing images change detection technology has become a popular tool for monitoring the change type, area, and distribution of land cover, including cultivated land, forest land, photovoltaic, roads, and buildings. However, traditional methods which rely on pre-annotation and on-site verification are time-consuming and challenging to meet timeliness requirements. With the emergence of artificial intelligence, this paper proposes an automatic change detection model and a crowdsourcing collaborative framework. The framework uses human-in-the-loop technology and an active learning approach to transform the manual interpretation method into a human-machine collaborative intelligent interpretation method. This low-cost and high-efficiency framework aims to solve the problem of weak model generalization caused by the lack of annotated data in change detection. The proposed framework can effectively incorporate expert domain knowledge and reduce the cost of data annotation while improving model performance. To ensure data quality, a crowdsourcing quality control model is constructed to evaluate the annotation qualification of the annotators and check their annotation results. Furthermore, a prototype of automatic detection and crowdsourcing collaborative annotation management platform is developed, which integrates annotation, crowdsourcing quality control, and change detection applications. Deep learning has dramatically enhanced remote sensing change detection. However, existing neural network models often face challenges like false positives and missed detections due to factors like lighting changes, scale differences, and noise interruptions. Additionally, change detection results often fail to capture target contours accurately. To address these issues, we propose a novel transformer-based hybrid network. In this study, we analyze the structural relationship in bi-temporal images and introduce a cross-attention-based transformer to model this relationship. First, we use a tokenizer to express the high-level features of the bi-temporal image into several semantic tokens. Then, we use a dual temporal transformer (DTT) encoder to capture dense spatiotemporal contextual relationships among the tokens. The features extracted at the coarse scale are refined into finer details through the DTT decoder. Concurrently, we input the backbone's low-level features into a contour-guided graph interaction module (CGIM) that utilizes joint attention to capture semantic relationships between object regions and the contour. Then, we use the feature pyramid decoder to integrate the multi-scale outputs of the CGIM. The convolutional block attention modules (CBAMs) employ channel and spatial attention to reweight feature maps. Finally, the classifier discriminates change pixels and generates the final change map of the difference feature map. Human activities and natural phenomena continually transform the Earth's surface, presenting ongoing challenges to the environment. Therefore, the accurate and timely monitoring and prediction of these alterations are essential for devising effective solutions and mitigating environmental impacts in advance. This study introduces a novel framework, called HCD-Net, for detecting changes using bi-temporal hyperspectral images. HCD-Net is built upon a dual-stream deep feature extraction process, complemented by an attention mechanism. The first stream employs 3D convolution layers and 3D Squeeze-and-Excitation (SE) blocks to extract deep features, while the second stream utilizes 2D convolution and 2D SE blocks for the same purpose. The deep features from both streams are then concatenated and processed through dense layers for decision-making. The performance of HCD-Net is evaluated against existing state-of-the-art change detection methods. For this purpose, the bi-temporal Airborne Visible/Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS) hyperspectral dataset was utilized to assess the change detection performance. The findings indicate that HCD-Net achieves superior accuracy and the lowest false alarm rate among the compared methods, with an overall classification accuracy exceeding 96%, and a kappa coefficient greater than 0.9. Change detection (CD) in remote sensing (RS) imagery is a pivotal method for detecting changes in the Earth's surface, finding wide applications in urban planning, disaster management, and national security. Recently, deep learning (DL) has experienced explosive growth and, with its superior capabilities in feature learning and pattern recognition, it has introduced innovative approaches to CD. This review explores the latest techniques, applications, and challenges in DL-based CD, examining them through the lens of various learning paradigms, including fully supervised, semi-supervised, weakly supervised, and unsupervised. Initially, the review introduces the basic network architectures for CD methods using DL. Then, it provides a comprehensive analysis of CD methods under different learning paradigms, summarizing commonly used frameworks. Additionally, an overview of publicly available datasets for CD is offered. Finally, the review addresses the opportunities and challenges in the field, including: (a) incomplete supervised CD, encompassing semi-supervised and weakly supervised methods, which is still in its infancy and requires further in-depth investigation; (b) the potential of self-supervised learning, offering significant opportunities for Few-shot and One-shot Learning of CD; (c) the development of Foundation Models, with their multi-task adaptability, providing new perspectives and tools for CD; and (d) the expansion of data sources, presenting both opportunities and challenges for multimodal CD. In the change detection (CD) task, the substantial variation in feature distributions across different CD datasets significantly limits the reusability of supervised CD models. To alleviate this problem, we propose an illumination–reflection decoupled change detection multi-scale unsupervised domain adaptation model, referred to as IRD-CD-UDA. IRD-CD-UDA maintains its performance on the original dataset (source domain) and improves its performance on unlabeled datasets (target domain) through a novel CD-UDA structure and methodology. IRD-CD-UDA synergizes mid-level global feature marginal distribution domain alignment, classifier layer feature conditional distribution domain alignment, and an easy-to-hard sample selection strategy to increase the generalization performance of CD models on cross-domain datasets. Extensive experiments conducted on the LEVIR, SYSU, and GZ optical remote sensing image datasets demonstrate that the IRD-CD-UDA model effectively mitigates feature distribution discrepancies between source and target CD data, thereby achieving optimal recognition performance on unlabeled target domain datasets. The natural terrain (e.g., farm and forest) in temperate zones changes dramatically between seasons due to distinct temperatures and precipitation variations from summer to winter. Moreover, built-up areas vary little in this short period. Therefore, extracting built-up areas via change detection on polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) images is feasible. A common type of PolSAR change detection method is based on hypothesis testing theory. However, in these methods, pixels are selected as the processing units; as a result, these models are computationally complex and poorly maintain the boundaries of built-up areas. In this paper, we innovatively introduce superpixels into the hypothesis test theory and propose a superpixelwise PolSAR change detection method for built-up area extraction. First, we oversegment the PolSAR images into a set of superpixels and derive the probability density function (PDF) of a superpixel's reflectivity on a PolSAR image. Based on this distribution, we present a superpixelwise likelihood-ratio test (LRT) statistic to measure the similarity of two superpixelwise covariance matrices for unsupervised change detection. When actually computing the superpixelwise LRT, the large variation in the areas of the superpixels makes the likelihood functions very complex and estimating the parameters difficult. We further simplify the calculation of the LRT statistic and apply it to built-up area extraction. Compared to the state-of-the-art built-up area extraction methods, our approach provides the best results with overall accuracy values of 91.41%, 92.71%, 93.67% and 93.91% for the four studied areas respectively. In addition, the computational complexity of our method is assessed, and the run time (seconds) of the proposed method in the four study cases is 11.14, 6.32, 5.31, and 4.88, respectively, superior to the values of 66.12, 36.26, 33.65, and 29.67 for DRT, respectively. Discriminating salient moving objects against complex, cluttered backgrounds, with occlusions and challenging environmental conditions like weather and illumination, is essential for stateful scene perception in autonomous systems. We propose a novel deep architecture, named DeepFTSG, for robust moving object detection that incorporates single and multi-stream multi-channel USE-Net trellis asymmetric encoders extending U-Net with squeeze and excitation (SE) blocks and a single shared decoder network for fusing multiple motion and appearance cues. DeepFTSG is a deep learning based approach that builds upon our previous hand-engineered flux tensor split Gaussian (FTSG) change detection video analysis algorithm which won the CDNet CVPR Change Detection Workshop challenge competition. DeepFTSG generalizes much better than top-performing motion detection deep networks, such as the scene-dependent ensemble-based FgSegNet_v2, while using an order of magnitude fewer weights. Short-term motion and longer-term change cues are estimated using general-purpose unsupervised methods—flux tensor and multi-modal background subtraction, respectively. DeepFTSG was evaluated using the CDnet-2014 change detection challenge dataset, the largest change detection video sequence benchmark with 12.3 billion labeled pixels, and had an overall F-measure of 97%. We also evaluated the cross-dataset generalization capability of DeepFTSG trained solely on CDnet-2014 short video segments and then evaluated on unseen SBI-2015, LASIESTA and LaSOT benchmark videos. On the unseen SBI-2015 dataset, DeepFTSG had an F-measure accuracy of 87%, more than 30% higher compared to the top-performing deep network FgSegNet_v2 and outperforms the recently proposed KimHa method by 17%. On the unseen LASIESTA, DeepFTSG had an F-measure of 88% and outperformed the best recent deep learning method BSUV-Net2.0 by 3%. On the unseen LaSOT with axis-aligned bounding box ground-truth, network segmentation masks were converted to bounding boxes for evaluation, DeepFTSG had an F-Measure of 55%, outperforming KimHa method by 14% and FgSegNet_v2 by almost 1.5%. When a customized single DeepFTSG model is trained in a scene-dependent manner for comparison with state-of-the-art approaches, then DeepFTSG performs significantly better, reaching an F-Measure of 97% on SBI-2015 (+ 10%) and 99% on LASIESTA (+ 11%). High-definition (HD) maps are becoming increasingly important for autonomous vehicles and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), as they provide detailed and accurate information about the road environment. Vision localization using HD maps can improve accuracy, but maps can become outdated. Image perception can be useful for HD map change detection. However, achieving robust and high-precision alignment between images and HD maps is challenging in varying environmental conditions. In addition, evaluating alignment in the absence of ground truth data is inconvenient. This article proposes a trajectory interpolation-based method for reconstructing lane markings from images to detect road changes when compared with the HD grid map. Images and HD maps are registered using a distance transform and cross-entropy-based optimization. The article also proposes a metric based on intersection over union for evaluating alignment accuracy. Experiments were conducted using a third-party-collected campus dataset and the Argoverse2 open-source dataset to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods in detecting road changes and achieving high-precision image and HD map fusion. One of the most important aspects of climate change is alterations in the amount and characteristics of precipitation. The present study intended to project precipitation changes over Iran based on the regional models of the CORDEX project under two scenarios (namely, RCP4.5 and RCP8.5). For this purpose, six indices, including maximum 1-day precipitation, simple precipitation intensity index, maximum length of dry spell, annual count of days when PRCP ≥ 10 mm, annual count of days when PRCP ≥ 1 mm, and annual total precipitation in wet days, were extracted. MERRA2 reanalysis precipitation data, highly correlated with observation data from 48 weather stations all over the country, were used for the 1980–2006 time period to assess the CORDEX project outputs. The results were presented in three different time periods, including the base period (1980–2006), the near future (2021–2050), and the far future (2071–2100). The results of the analyses indicated that four indices, namely the maximum 1-day precipitation, the annual count of days when PRCP ≥ 1 mm, the annual count of days when PRCP ≥ 10 mm, and the annual total precipitation in wet days, demonstrated a decrease in precipitation and an increase in dry spells all over the country except for the east and the southeast regions where these indices will increase compared to the base period (except for the maximum length of the dry spell). Destructive disasters can cause enormous harm and losses, and due to a lack of information for a certain period of time after the disaster, it is extremely detrimental to understanding the disaster situation and disaster relief. In order to obtain timely collapse and damage information of buildings, roads, bridges, reservoirs and other important ground objects in disaster areas, a method for automatically identifying and annotating the differences in remote sensing images before and after disasters has been proposed. Firstly, Gaussian noise was removed from time-series remote sensing images using block matching 3D (BM3D) method, and then image registration was performed using scale invariant feature transform (SIFT) method. The edge information of important ground objects in different areas was obtained by using Wv_Canny edge detection method for difference images. Finally, the important ground objects that have changed were identified and annotated. The experimental results of remote sensing image were compared according to the change area of the building, the correct rate is 78% ~ 79%, the false detection rate is 21% ~ 22%, and there is no missed detection rate. Simulation experiment and actual remote sensing image processing show that the proposed method can effectively identify and mark the difference areas of important ground objects such as buildings, which is conducive to timely understanding and rescue of destructive ground objects after disaster. The problem of change detection in remote sensing image processing is both difficult and important. It is extensively used in a variety of sectors, including land resource planning, monitoring and forecasting of agricultural plant health, and monitoring and assessment of natural disasters. Remote sensing images provide a large amount of long-term and fully covered data for earth environmental monitoring. A lot of progress has been made thanks to deep learning's quick development. But the majority of deep learning-based change detection techniques currently in use rely on the well-known Convolutional neural network (CNN). However, considering the locality of convolutional operation, CNN unable to master the interplay between global and distant semantic information. Some researches has employ Vision Transformer as a backbone in remote sensing field. Inspired by these researches, in this paper, we propose a network named Siam-Swin-Unet, which is a Siamesed pure Transformer with U-shape construction for remote sensing image change detection. Swin Transformer is a hierarchical vision transformer with shifted windows that can extract global feature. To learn local and global semantic feature information, the dual-time image are fed into Siam-Swin-Unet which is composed of Swin Transformer, Unet Siamesenet and two feature fusion module. Considered the Unet and Siamesenet are effective for change detection, We applied it to the model. The feature fusion module is designed for fusion of dual-time image features, and is efficient and low-compute confirmed by our experiments. Change detection in remote sensing enables identifying alterations in surface characteristics over time, underpinning diverse applications. However, conventional pixel-based algorithms encounter constraints in terms of accuracy when applied to medium- and high-resolution remote sensing images. Although object-oriented methods offer a step forward, they frequently grapple with missing small objects or handling complex features effectively. To bridge these gaps, this paper proposes an unsupervised object-oriented change detection approach empowered by hierarchical multi-scale segmentation for generating binary ecosystem change maps. This approach meticulously segments images into optimal sizes and leverages multidimensional features to adapt the Iteratively Reweighted Multivariate Alteration Detection (IRMAD) algorithm for GaoFen WFV data. We rigorously evaluated its performance in the Yellow River Source Region, a critical ecosystem conservation zone. The results unveil three key strengths: (1) the approach achieved excellent object-level change detection results, making it particularly suited for identifying changes in subtle features; (2) while simply increasing object features did not lead to a linear accuracy gain, optimized feature space construction effectively mitigated dimensionality issues; and (3) the scalability of our approach is underscored by its success in mapping the entire Yellow River Source Region, achieving an overall accuracy of 90.09% and F-score of 0.8844. Furthermore, our analysis reveals that from 2015 to 2022, changed ecosystems comprised approximately 1.42% of the total area, providing valuable insights into regional ecosystem dynamics. India's metropolitan cities have been growing rapidly for many years. To keep geographical information accurate and current, it is essential to update GIS maps. Traditionally, experts have analysed new data sources and made necessary adjustments to the maps manually. Such manual monitoring is a laborious test both economically and in terms of workforce. Geographical data are transformed into digital maps by GIS mapping, making it simple to spot patterns, trends and linkages. Extraction of humanmade objects, such as roads, water bodies and buildings, from remotely sensed imageries holds significance in various urban applications, including urban land-use and land-cover assessment, geographical database updates and change detection. Cartosat-3 data can provide detailed information about buildings and their changes over time. Additionally, GIS maps are manually updated by rasterizing vector data. The suggested system consists of ResNet and U-Net architecture as its core. The bi-temporal images are initially coregistered to completely align 2020 and 2022 satellite images with respect to the coordinates. Buildings are then segmented using U-Net with ResNet as the backbone, and the resultant segments are converted from raster to vector format. Climate change in northern latitudes is increasing the vulnerability of peatlands and the riparian transition zones between peatlands and upland forests (referred to as ecotones) to greater frequency of wildland fires. We examined early post‐fire vegetation regeneration following the 2011 Utikuma complex fire (central Alberta, Canada). This study examined 779 peatlands and adjacent ecotones, covering an area of ~182 km2. Based on the known regional fire history, peatlands that burned in 2011 were stratified into either long return interval (LRI) fire regimes of >80 years (i.e., no recorded prior fire history) or short fire return interval (SRI) of 55 years (i.e., within the boundary of a documented severe fire in 1956). Data from six multitemporal airborne lidar surveys were used to quantify trajectories of vegetation change for 8 years prior to and 8 years following the 2011 fire. To date, no studies have quantified the impacts of post‐fire regeneration following short versus long return interval fires across this broad range of peatlands with variable environmental and post‐fire successional trajectories. We found that SRI peatlands demonstrated more rapid vascular and shrub growth rates, especially in peatland centers, than LRI peatlands. Bogs and fens burned in 1956, and with little vascular vegetation (classified as "open peatlands") prior to the 2011 fire, experienced the greatest changes. These peatlands tended to transition to vascular/shrub forms following the SRI fire, while open LRI peatlands were not significantly different from pre‐fire conditions. The results of this study suggest the emergence of a positive feedback, where areas experiencing SRI fires in southern boreal peatlands are expected to transition to forested vegetation forms. Along fen edges and within bog centers, SRI fires are expected to reduce local peatland groundwater moisture‐holding capacity and promote favorable conditions for increased fire frequency and severity in the future. LANDFIRE (LF) has been producing periodic spatially explicit vegetation change maps (i.e., LF disturbance products) across the entire United States since 1999 at a 30 m spatial resolution. These disturbance products include data products produced by various fire programs, field-mapped vegetation and fuel treatment activity (i.e., events) submissions from various agencies, and disturbances detected by the U.S. Geological Survey Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS)-based Remote Sensing of Landscape Change (RSLC) process. The RSLC process applies a bi-temporal change detection algorithm to Landsat satellite-based seasonal composites to generate the interim disturbances that are subsequently reviewed by analysts to reduce omission and commission errors before ingestion them into LF's disturbance products. The latency of the disturbance product is contingent on timely data availability and analyst review. This work describes the development and integration of the Spatially Adaptable Filter for Error Reduction (SAFER) process and other error and latency reduction improvements to the RSLC process. SAFER is a random forest-based supervised classifier and uses predictor variables that are derived from multiple years of pre- and post-disturbance Landsat band observations. Predictor variables include reflectance, indices, and spatial contextual information. Spatial contextual information that is unique to each contiguous disturbance region is parameterized as Z scores using differential observations of the disturbed regions with its undisturbed neighbors. The SAFER process was prototyped for inclusion in the RSLC process over five regions within the conterminous United States (CONUS) and regional model performance, evaluated using 2016 data. Results show that the inclusion of the SAFER process increased the accuracies of the interim disturbance detections and thus has potential to reduce the time needed for analyst review. LF does not track the time taken by each analyst for each tile, and hence, the relative effort saved was parameterized as the percentage of 30 m pixels that are correctly classified in the SAFER outputs to the total number of pixels that are incorrectly classified in the interim disturbance and are presented. The SAFER prototype outputs showed that the relative analysts' effort saved could be over 95%. The regional model performance evaluation showed that SAFER's performance depended on the nature of disturbances and availability of cloud-free images relative to the time of disturbances. The accuracy estimates for CONUS were inferred by comparing the 2017 SAFER outputs to the 2017 analyst-reviewed data. As expected, the SAFER outputs had higher accuracies compared to the interim disturbances, and CONUS-wide relative effort saved was over 92%. The regional variation in the accuracies and effort saved are discussed in relation to the vegetation and disturbance type in each region. The population pressure and rapid urbanization in the Southern Punjab of Pakistan have led to massive landuse transformations in the recent years, especially in the Multan and Bahawalpur district. These frequent landuse alterations disrupt the crop yield and indirectly affect the livelihoods and economy at the national level. With an aim to assess the agricultural shifts in cotton landscapes of Multan and Bahawalpur districts over two decades, the advanced classification techniques of Machine Learning Algorithms (MLA), Random Forest (RF) was used. One year composite of monthly time series images were taken along with Normalized Difference Vegetation Index in Google Earth Engine (GEE) for the selected years (2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2020). The Landuse/Landcover classes extracted through satellite imagery included cropland, orchards, settlement, water, and other land for both districts, while forest class was extracted for Bahawalpur district only. The results indicated that the use of MLA, RF classifier highlights the variations in cotton landscapes with an accuracy greater than 85%. It was observed that the cropland and other lands in Multan reduced by 3.03% and 20.33%, respectively, while the classes such as orchard, wetland, and settlement significantly increased by 66.1%, 40.3%, and 75.5%, respectively. Similarly, in Bahawalpur an overall increase was observed in croplands, forests, water bodies, and settlements over the two decades. It can be confidently concluded that GEE has become a viable alternative to conventional methodologies for remote sensing applications while providing a comparatively higher degree of confidence in results. Change detection (CD) stands out as a pivotal yet challenging task in the interpretation of remote sensing images. Significant developments have been witnessed, particularly with the rapid advancements in deep learning techniques. Nevertheless, challenges such as incomplete detection targets and unsmooth boundaries remain as most CD methods suffer from ineffective feature fusion. Therefore, this paper presents a multi-scale gated fusion network (MSGFNet) to improve the accuracy of CD results. To effectively extract bi-temporal features, the EfficientNetB4 model based on a Siamese network is employed. Subsequently, we propose a multi-scale gated fusion module (MSGFM) that comprises a multi-scale progressive fusion (MSPF) unit and a gated weight adaptive fusion (GWAF) unit, aimed at fusing bi-temporal multi-scale features to maintain boundary details and detect completely changed targets. Finally, we use the simple yet efficient UNet structure to recover the feature maps and predict results. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the MSGFNet, the LEVIR-CD, WHU-CD, and SYSU-CD datasets were utilized, and the MSGFNet achieved F1 scores of 90.86%, 92.46%, and 80.39% on the three datasets, respectively. Change detection (CD) in remote sensing imagery has found broad applications in ecosystem service assessment, disaster evaluation, urban planning, land utilization, etc. In this paper, we propose a novel graph model-based method for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image CD. To mitigate the influence of speckle noise on SAR image CD, we opt for comparing the structures of multi-temporal images instead of the conventional approach of directly comparing pixel values, which is more robust to the speckle noise. Specifically, we first segment the multi-temporal images into square patches at multiple scales and construct multi-scale K-nearest neighbor (KNN) graphs for each image, and then develop an effective graph fusion strategy, facilitating the exploitation of multi-scale information within SAR images, which offers an enhanced representation of the complex relationships among features in the images. Second, we accomplish the interaction of spatio-temporal-radiometric information between graph models through graph mapping, which can efficiently uncover the connections between multi-temporal images, leading to a more precise extraction of changes between the images. Finally, we use the Markov random field (MRF) based segmentation method to obtain the binary change map. Wildfires play a crucial role in the transformation of forest ecosystems and exert a significant influence on the global climate over geological timescales. Recent shifts in climate patterns and intensified human–forest interactions have led to an increase in the incidence of wildfires. These fires are characterized by their extensive coverage, higher frequency, and prolonged duration, rendering them increasingly destructive. To mitigate the impact of wildfires on climate change, ecosystems, and biodiversity, it is imperative to conduct systematic monitoring of wildfire progression and evaluate their environmental repercussions on a global scale. Satellite remote sensing is a powerful tool, offering precise and timely data on terrestrial changes, and has been extensively utilized for wildfire identification, tracking, and impact assessment at both local and regional levels. The Canada Centre for Mapping and Earth Observation, in collaboration with the Canadian Forest Service, has developed a comprehensive National Burned Area Composite (NBAC). This composite serves as a benchmark for curating a bi-temporal multi-source satellite image dataset for change detection, compiled from the archives of Sentinel-2, Sentinel-1, and ALOS-2 PALSAR-2. To our knowledge, this dataset is the inaugural large-scale, multi-source, and multi-frequency satellite image dataset with 20 m spatial resolution for wildfire mapping, monitoring, and evaluation. It harbors significant potential for enhancing wildfire management strategies, building upon the profound advancements in deep learning that have contributed to the field of remote sensing. Based on our curated dataset, which encompasses major wildfire events in Canada, we conducted a systematic evaluation of the capability of multi-source satellite earth observation data in identifying wildfire-burned areas using statistical analysis and deep learning. Our analysis compares the difference between burned and unburned areas using post-event observation solely or bi-temporal (pre- and post-event) observations across diverse land cover types. We demonstrate that optical satellite data yield higher separability than C-Band and L-Band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), which exhibit considerable overlap in burned and unburned sample distribution, as evidenced by SAR-based boxplots. With U-Net, we further explore how different input channels influence the detection accuracy. Our findings reveal that deep neural networks enhance SAR's performance in mapping burned areas. Notably, C-Band SAR shows a higher dependency on pre-event data than L-Band SAR for effective detection. A comparative analysis of U-Net and its variants indicates that U-Net works best with single-sensor data, while the late fusion architecture marginally surpasses others in the fusion of optical and SAR data. Accuracy across sensors is highest in closed forests, with sequentially lower performance in open forests, shrubs, and grasslands. Future work will extend the data from both spatial and temporal dimensions to encompass varied vegetation types and climate zones, furthering our understanding of multi-source and multi-frequency satellite remote sensing capabilities in wildfire detection and monitoring. Remote sensing change detection (RSCD), which aims to identify surface changes from bitemporal images, is significant for many applications, such as environmental protection and disaster monitoring. In the last decade, driven by the wave of artificial intelligence, many change detection methods based on deep learning emerged and have achieved essential breakthroughs. However, these methods pay more attention to visual representation learning while ignoring the potential of multimodal data. Recently, the foundation vision-language model, i.e. CLIP, has provided a new paradigm for multimodal AI, demonstrating impressive performance on downstream tasks. Following this trend, in this study, we introduce ChangeCLIP, a novel framework that leverages robust semantic information from image-text pairs, specifically tailored for Remote Sensing Change Detection (RSCD). Specifically, we reconstruct the original CLIP to extract bitemporal features and propose a novel differential features compensation module to capture the detailed semantic changes between them. Besides, we proposed a vision-language-driven decoder by combining the results of image-text encoding with the visual features of the decoding stage, thereby enhancing the image semantics. The proposed ChangeCLIP achieved state-of-the-art IoU on 5 well-known change detection datasets, LEVIR-CD (85.20%), LEVIR-CD+ (75.63%), WHUCD (90.15%), CDD (95.87%) and SYSU-CD (71.41%). Objective: This study investigated the effect of the spatial disorientation (SD) events on an attentive blank stare in the cockpit scene and demonstrated how much the flight task and visual delayed discrimination task were competing for the pilots' attention. Background: SD in flight is the leading cause of human error-related aircraft accidents in the military, general and commercial aviation, and has been an unsolved problem since the inception of flight. In-flight safety research, visually scanning cockpit instruments, and detecting changes are critical countermeasures against SD. Method: Thirty male military pilots were performing a dual task involving piloting a flight simulator and visual change detection, while eye movements were obtained using an eye tracker. Results: Pilots made more flight errors and spent less time gazing at the area of change in SD-conflict than in non-conflict flights. The vestibular origin SD-conflict led not only to deteriorated piloting and visual scanning but also to problems coordinating overt and covert attention, resulting in lower noticeability of visual changes despite gazing at them. Conclusion: Our study shows that looking at a given area in space is not a sufficient condition for effective covert attention allocation and the correct response to a visual stimulus. It seems to be important to make pilots aware of this during SD training. Application: To reduce change blindness, some strategies, such as reducing the number of secondary tasks is extremely valuable.
