This paper introduces the Watermark Imaging System (WImSy) which can be used to photograph, document, and study sheets of paper. The WImSy provides surface images, raking light images, and transmitted light images of the paper, all in perfect alignment. We develop algorithms that exploit this alignment by combining several images together in a process that mimics both the “surface image removal” technique and the method of “high dynamic range” photographs. An improved optimization criterion and an automatic parameter selection procedure streamline the process and make it practical for art historians and conservators to extract the relevant information to study watermarks. The effectiveness of the method is demonstrated in several experiments on images taken with the WImSy at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, and the results are compared with manually optimized images.

One of the most significant technological problems of repeated basic tillage of agricultural soils is the formation of a plow sole at a depth that is characteristic of basic tillage. The most commonly used method of eliminating the plow sole is its mechanical processing, which in practice is implemented by a wide range of soil tillage machines of various designs. Applied tools for mechanical destruction of the plow sole have a number of disadvantages not structural but also agrotechnological in nature. To remedy these shortcomings, it is proposed to use a "soil absorber" in the form of a semi-loop flexible thread, which is secured to the two pillars of the first and last plow housings for main plowing. In order to substantiate and develop the theoretical foundations of the balanced mechanical motion of the loop of the flexible working body in the bulk viscous-plastic medium of the soil and to determine its geometric and structural parameters, analytical studies of the mechanics of flexible filament moving in the separated volume of the bulk viscous plastic body were performed. environment. According to the determined results of analytical studies, the dependences can be calculated normal stresses in cross sections of a real flexible working body, from which the optimal values of the cross-sectional area are calculated taking into account the abrasive properties of the material of the structure and in accordance with the designated (selected) resource of work of flexible soil. The results of these analytical studies allow us to determine the design structural and geometric parameters of flexible soil tillage machines that are compatible and can be combined with a wide range of soil tillage tools for basic shelf and shelfless soil cultivation.

Однією з найсуттєвіших технологічних проблем багатократного основного обробітку ґрунтів сільськогосподарського використання є утворення плужної підошви на глибині, яка є характерною для основного обробітку ґрунту. Метою дослідження є обґрунтування та розроблення теоретичних основ врівноваженого механічного руху петлі гнучкого робочого органу (гнучкої нитки) в сипучому в’язко-пластичному середовищі ґрунту. Найуживанішим способом усунення плужної підошви є її механічний обробіток, який на практиці реалізується широким спектром «ґрунтопоглиблювачів» різних конструкцій. Застосовувані знаряддя для механічного руйнування плужної підошви мають цілу низку недоліків конструкційного та агротехнологічного характеру. Для усунення цих недоліків запропоновано використанням «ґрунтопоглиблювача» у вигляді напівпетлі гнучкої нитки, яку закріплено на двох стовбах першого та останнього корпусів плуга для основної оранки. З метою обґрунтування та розроблення теоретичних основ врівноваженого механічного руху петлі гнучкого робочого органу в сипучому в’язко-пластичному середовищі ґрунту та визначення його геометрично- конструкційних параметрів виконано аналітичні дослідження механіки гнучкої нитки, яка рухається у виокремленому об’ємі сипучого в’язко-пластичного середовища. За визначеними результатами аналітичних досліджень залежностями можуть бути обчислені нормальні напруження у перерізах реального гнучкого робочого органу, звідки обчислюються оптимальні значення площі його поперечного перерізу з урахуванням абразійних властивостей матеріалу конструкції та відповідно до призначеного (обраного) ресурсу роботи гнучкого ґрунтопоглиблювача. По определенным результатам аналитических исследований зависимостями могут быть вычислены нормальные напряжения в сечениях реального гибкого рабочего органа, откуда исчисляются оптимальные значения площади его поперечного сечения с учетом абразионных свойств материала конструкции и в соответствии с назначенным (избранным) ресурсом работы гибкого почвоуглубления. В дальнейшем результаты приведенных аналитических исследований позволят определить проектные конструкционно-геометрические параметры гибких рабочих органов почвоуглубления, которые совместимы и могут агрегатироваться с широкой гаммой почвообрабатывающих орудий для основной полицевой и безотвальной обработки почвы.

Aerial barrage balls serve for marking high-voltage wires in order to visually warn pilots of civil and military aviation about the presence of overhead lines. The present article deals with the mechanical calculation of flexible overhead wires of overhead lines, in which aerial warning barrage balls are installed. The wire is considered as a homogeneous flexible thread having the outline of a parabola and a chain line. The load from the aerial barrage balls must not be substituted with a distributed one by simple division of the total load into the span length, since it can cause incorrect results. The formulas for determining the sag are given for a different number of aerial barrage balls as a function of their number and the coefficient of concentrated forces. The acceptable accuracy of mechanical calculation is demonstrated when using the model of wire in the form of a parabola adopted in the design practice, provided that the components of concentrated forces are correctly determined. The equation of state is recorded, taking into account the weight and wind loads on the wire, as well as load coefficients in two planes, depending on the number of barrage balls. The performed calculations demonstrate an acceptable accuracy of the determination of the stress at various loadings of the span. For more accurate calculation of mechanical stresses and sag arrows, a vector-parametric method for calculating the flexible wires of overhead lines is suggested, where the calculated model of wires in the form of a flexible elastic thread is put taking into account of the spatial arrangement of all structural elements. The results of mechanical calculation according to the program that had been developed and to the existing methods for a different number of aerial barrier balls moved along the span are presented.

It has been established that the shape of the sagging of an inextensible yarn that is much longer than the length between fixing points is not related to the mechanical characteristics of the yarn material and its extensibility, but is determined by the simplest geometric equation. The solution obtained emphasizes the difference between the calculation of flexible yarns, the length of which exceeds the distance between the fixing points, and the yarns having a equal to the distance or a shorter length (that is, yarns with prestressing). The method of determining the length of a sagging yarn fixed between two points having an arbitrary height difference is specified. The objective of mechanical calculation of flexible wires of substations and overhead lines is to determine the sag and tension in different climatic conditions. A wire with a uniformly distributed load is considered as a homogeneous flexible thread having the form of a parabola. Concentrated loads from spacers, barrier balls, stubs, taps to electrical apparatus and other elements are replaced with the one distributed over the span. On behalf of a span without tension springs of insulators the action of concentrated loads on the wire is considered, an error is determined when replacing the concentrated forces with the one uniformly distributed along the span by the load. The sag for the equivalent wire is determined with the aid of the ratio of the increase of the sag, due to the presence of concentrated forces. An equation of state has been drawn up which makes it possible to determine the tension after changing the number of concentrated loads, e.g., after installing spacers, hanging the barrier balls, fixing the taps. The dependence of the maximum sag on the number of concentrated forces is given. The definition of the coefficient of concentrated forces as the ratio of the sum of the concentrated loads to the weight of the wire in the span is presented. A relationship between the load factors, the increase of the sag and the coefficient of concentrated forces is established. The formula has been deduced for determining the error in the replacement of concentrated forces by a uniformly distributed load along the span as a function of the number of concentrated forces and the coefficient of concentrated forces. A decrease in the error with an increase in the number of concentrated forces has been demonstrated. A more accurate calculation of mechanical tensions and sag is possible with the use of a vector-parametric method for calculating the flexible busbar of substations and air-line wires, where the design model of wires in the form of a flexible elastic thread is placed, taking into account the spatial disposition of all structural elements.

Авиационные заградительные шары-маркеры служат для маркировки высоковольтных проводов с целью визуального предупреждения пилотов гражданской и военной авиации о наличии воздушных линий. В статье предлагается механический расчет гибких проводов пролета воздушных линий, в котором устанавливаются заградительные шары. Провод рассматривается как однородная гибкая нить, имеющая очертание параболы и цепной линии. Нагрузку от заградительных шаров нельзя заменять распределенной простым делением суммарных нагрузок на длину пролета, так как это может привести к неверным результатам. Приведены формулы определения стрел провеса при различном числе заградительных шаров как функции от их числа и коэффициента сосредоточенных сил. Показана приемлемая точность механического расчета при использовании принятой в проектной практике модели провода в виде параболы, если будут правильно определены составляющие сосредоточенных сил. Записано уравнение состояния, учитывающее весовые и ветровые нагрузки на провод, а также коэффициенты нагрузки в двух плоскостях, зависящие от числа заградительных шаров. Выполненные расчеты показывают приемлемую точность определения тяжений при различной загрузке пролета. Для более точного расчета механических напряжений и стрел провеса предложен векторно-параметрический метод расчета гибких проводов воздушных линий, где положена расчетная модель проводов в виде гибкой упругой нити с учетом пространственного расположения всех конструктивных элементов. Получены результаты механического расчета по разработанной программе и по существующим методикам для различного числа заградительных шаров, перемещаемых вдоль пролета.

Ziel dieser Arbeit ist die Entwicklung eines Abspannsystems der Spiegelfl��che f��r parabolische Sonnenkollektoren, sodass die Spiegelfl��che eine m��glichst exakte Form einer Parabel annimmt. Die Pr��zision mit der die Spiegelfl��che gestaltet wird, ist wesentlich f��r die Effizienz der gesamten Anlage. Zentrales Element der Konstruktion ist eine Kette, die durch das Anh��ngen von Gewichten an den Kettengelenken optimal ausgerichtet wird. Neben dem Abspannsystem mit der Kette sollen auch die Spiegelelemente, aus welchen sich die Spiegelfl��che zusammensetzt, entwickelt werden. Die drei Elemente Spiegelfl��che, Kette und Abspannung stellen das Parabolspiegel-Modul dar. Zur Unterst��tzung des Entwicklungsprozesses wird ein Programm f��r Simulationen und Berechnungen zum Kettensystem entwickelt. Mit Hilfe der Ergebnisse aus diesem Programm k��nnen wesentliche konstruktive Entscheidungen fundiert getroffen und komplexe Berechnungen bez��glich des Systems durchgef��hrt werden. F��r die Kette stehen zwei verschiedene Kettentypen zur Auswahl. Basierend auf Simulationen, die mit dem entwickelten Programm durchgef��hrt werden, soll die Wahl des idealen Kettentyps getroffen werden. Nach der Entscheidung ��ber den Kettentyp erfolgt die mechanische Konstruktion des Parabolspiegel-Moduls, dessen Bauteile auf die erforderliche Festigkeit ausgelegt werden. Zu der mechanischen Konstruktion geh��rt auch das Erstellen von Fertigungszeichnungen aller Einzelteile, St��cklisten und Zusammenstellungszeichnungen. Der gesamte Konstruktionsprozess soll in dieser Arbeit ausf��hrlich dokumentiert werden., Goal of this thesis is designing a tension-system for the mirror-surface of a parabolic-sun-collector, so that the shape of the mirror-surface itself represents as close as possible a perfect parabolic curve. Greatest accuracy of the mirror-shape is absolutely essential in order to guarantee efficiency of the sun-collector. Main element of the construction is a chain that is aligned by weights attached to its joints. Further to designing the tension-system and the chain, it is to design mirror-elements for the mirror-surface. The three elements, namely the tension-system, the chain and the mirror-surface, represent the parabolic-module. To support this design-process, a simulation- and calculation-program is being developed. Supported by the results of simulations and calculations of the program, major decisions in the design-process can be taken well-founded and key values can be calculated. For the chain, two chain types are available. The ideal chain type will be selected based on simulations conducted with the developed program. After selecting the ideal chain type, the mechanical-design of the parabolic-module can be designed and its parts will be dimensioned. Part of the mechanical-design is to create production-drawings of all parts, bill of material and assembly drawings. This thesis shall document in detail the entire design-process of such parabolic-module of a sun-collector.
