A SA508/Alloy 52 dissimilar metal weld (DMW) mock-up with double-sided Alloy 52 butterings, which is fully representative of Ringhals pressurizer surge nozzle DMW repair solution, was studied. The microstructure, crystal structure, elemental diffusion, carbide formation and macro-, micro- and nano-hardness of the SA508/nickel-base Alloy 52 buttering fusion boundary (FB) were investigated. Three types of FBs were analyzed, i.e., narrow FB (∼80–85% of whole FB), tempered martensitic transition region (∼15%) and wide partially mixed zone (∼1–2%). The different FB types were induced by the local heat flow and respective elementary diffusion, which significantly influence the local hardness mismatch across the DMW interface and the local brittle fracture behavior.

The formation of brittle microstructures around the fusion line in dissimilar welds has required a deeper microstructural analysis in this region. The study becomes more relevant when these welds are used in environments that facilitate hydrogen embrittlement. The present work aims to characterize the microstructure and hardness at the diluted zone interface in joints welded with dissimilar materials. Aiming for a better efficacy in the microstructural characterization of this zone, samples of both normal cross-section (NCS) and section with slope were used, according to the low-angle microsectioning (LAMS) technique, which allows a greater amplification of partially mixed zones (PMZs). The results indicated the diffusion of carbon from the heat-affected zone (HAZ) towards the fusion line which, in combination with other alloying elements, form highly brittle carbides. In turn, the hardness of the base metal and the HAZ was reduced after post weld heat treatment, whereas in the weld metal an opposite behavior was observed. The dissimilar interface was promising for applications in environments facilitating hydrogen embrittlement, especially regarding the characteristics of zone Φ.

Documentos apresentados no âmbito do reconhecimento de graus e diplomas estrangeiros Nesse trabalho foi realizado um estudo para analisar o comportamento microestrutural da interface de soldas de amanteigamento do aço AISI 4130 com diferentes ligas de níquel. O processo de soldagem MIG foi utilizado para depositar o amanteigamento. As variáveis de influencia foram os arames eletrodo Inconel 625 (AWS ERNiCrMo-3) e Inconel 725 (AWS ERNiCrMo-15); os modos de corrente convencional e pulsada e o tratamento térmico de alívio de tensões (TTAT). Como variáveis de respostas foram analisadas a macro e microestruturas e a microdureza na interface do amanteigamento com a Zona Termicamente Afetada (ZTA), Os resultados mostraram que o modo de corrente convencional apresenta um arco mais instável, conseguentemente foi observado a presença de respingos, já no modo de corrente pulsada, foi observado um arco estável, com ausência total de respingos. As análises macroestruturais mostraram que o amanteigamento realizado com corrente pulsada apresentou menores níveis de diluição em relação ao modo de corrente convencional mesmo com maiores níveis de energia de soldagem. Além disso, verificou-se nas análises micrograficas que a interface do amanteigamento com o modo de corrente pulsado promoveu maior controle das zonas parcialmente diluída (ZPD), minimizando a formação de zonas frágeis. Foi observado também que o TTAT foi eficaz em reduzir a microdureza da ZTA. In this work a study was carried out to analyze the microstructural behavior of the braze weld interface of AISI 4130 steel with different nickel alloys. The MIG welding process was used to deposit the buttery. The influence variables were the Inconel 625 (AWS ERNiCrMo-3) and Inconel 725 (AWS ERNiCrMo-15) electrodes; The conventional and pulsed current modes and the stress relief thermal treatment (TTAT). As response variables the macro and microstructures and the microhardness were analyzed in the interface of the buttery with the Thermally Affected Zone (ZTA). The results showed that the conventional current mode has a more unstable arc, therefore the presence of spatter was observed. In the pulsed current mode, a stable arc was observed, with total absence of spatter. The macrostructural analysis showed that the buttery performed with pulsed current had lower levels of dilution than the conventional current mode even with higher levels of welding energy. In addition, it was verified in the micrographic analyzes that the interface of the buttery with pulsed current mode promoted greater control of partially diluted zones(ZPD), minimizing the formation of fragile zones. It was also observed that TTAT was effective in reducing the microhardness of ZTA.

O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos dos parâmetros de tecimento e da velocidade de alimentação sobre a formação da primeira camada de amanteigamento com aço inoxidável austenítico, visando a otimização da operação no sentido de maximizar a relação entre espessura da camada e diluição. Os experimentos foram realizados pelo processo TIG com alimentação de arame, variando-se sistematicamente, e garantindo-se a ortogonalidade do planejamento experimental, a amplitude, o tempo de parada lateral e a velocidade de alimentação, permitindo se encontrar equações estocásticas de predições da geometria resultante do depósito. Através de um programa de otimização, procurou-se os parâmetros de regulagem que levassem a maior relação da área depositada pela área fundida. Escolheu-se como restritor a relação reforço por largura, evitando-se revestimentos com alta convexidade e possibilidade de formação de sobreposição lateral de cordão. Soldagens de validação mostraram a robustez e confirmaram a adequabilidade do método de otimização. Com a metodologia empregada foi possível demonstrar a necessidade, para a otimização do cordão de amanteigamento, de se usar a máxima velocidade de alimentação e o mínimo de tempo na parada lateral. A amplitude ideal é um balanço entre os efeitos sobre a área fundida e convexidade, mostrando uma tendência de adquirir um valor maior do que a faixa central.The objective of the present work was to evaluate the effects of the weaving parameters and of the wire feed speed on the formation of a stainless steel buttering layer, aiming the process optimization by the layer height and dilution maximization. The experiments were carried out by the TIG process with wire feeding. Weaving amplitude, lateral dwell time and wire feed speed were systematically varied, through an orthogonal experimental planning, allowing finding stochastic predictive equations of the geometry resulting from the deposits. Through an optimization program, it was sought the tuning parameters to take the largest relationship between deposited and melted areas. It was chosen as restrictor the relationship bead reinforcement by bead width, avoiding deposits with high convexity and possibility of overlay formation. Welding of validation showed the robustness and confirmed the adequacy of the optimization approach. With the employed methodology, it was possible to demonstrate the need of using the fastest wire feed speed and the minimum dwell time for buttering bead optimization. The ideal amplitude is a balance between the effects of it on melted area and bead convexity, presenting a tendency for taking a value greater than the one in the middle of the central range.

O objetivo dessa pesquisa foi avaliar o efeito da utilização dos processos Plasma Pó (PTA-P) e MIG para a aplicação de "amanteigamentos" com Liga de Ni sobre a susceptibilidade à fragilização por hidrogênio de juntas soldadas de aços dissimilares utilizadas em aplicação offshore utilizando diferentes temperaturas de preaquecimento e interpasse e também comparar os resultados para dois aços para válvula, o AISI 8630M e AISI 4130. O processo de soldagem utilizado para a união das juntas foi o processo MIG utilizando-se como metal de adição o arame eletrodo, Inconel-625 (ER NiCrMo-3) de 1,2 mm de diâmetro. Os dois aços foram submetidos a três diferentes combinações de temperaturas de preaquecimento e interpasse antes dos amanteigados pelos processos PTA-P e MIG. Após a etapa de amanteigamento foram realizadas análises de composição química por EDS, microestruturais por MO e MEV, e de microdureza antes e depois do TTAT. Em seguida foram executadas as soldagens de união pelo processo MIG. As amostras de tração foram previamente hidrogenadas simulando as condições existentes de proteção catódica em ambiente submarino. O aumento das temperaturas de preaquecimento e interpasse resultou em maior refino dos grãos da ZTA, entretanto proporcionou aumento da média de sua microdureza e de sua extensão, e em maior migração de Fe do MB para o MS, resultando em maior fragilização por hidrogênio. Pelo processo PTA-P houve uma menor diversidade e frequência de incidência de zonas parcialmente diluídas (ZPD), sendo encontradas apenas ZPD do tipo contínua, enquanto que pelo processo MIG foram encontradas ZPD do tipo descontínua, com diferentes morfologias. O TTAT proporcionou uma significativa redução de 20% a 44% nos valores da microdureza da ZTA. Com base nos níveis de deformação e Índice de Fragilização (IF), o aço AISI 4130 apresentou os melhores resultados com relação à fragilização por hidrogênio. This Thesis presents a study about hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility of dissimilar metals welded joints present in oil industry equipment, specifically in valves connections with pipes for the oil transport, which are subject to use conditions involving severe mechanical stresses in corrosive environments, from the seawater and the oil fluid. As the valves steel are martensitic its heat affected zone (HAZ) may be susceptible to hydrogen embrittlement not only from cathodic protection but also from the seawater and H2S. Therefore, to prevent this potential embrittlement and consequently crack formation in these regions of the welded joint, is used as nickel alloy filler metal. Therefore, the part of martensitic steel previously undergoes a "buttering" process which consists of applying layers of Ni deposited by welding. The welding process used for the union of the joints was the MIG process using as filler metal the Inconel-625 (ER NiCrMo-3) wire electrode 1.2 mm in diameter. Two steels were buttering, AISI 8630M and AISI 4130. Both were subjected at the three different combinations of preheat and interpass temperatures. For the buttering realization, the same alloy, in powder form, was used by Plasma powder process (PTA-P). To evaluate the efficiency of the PTA-P process in buttering operation it was compared with other buttering performed by MIG process with the same filler metal of the weld joint. After buttering the samples were subjected to post welding heat treatment (PWHT). Chemical composition analyses were performed by Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), microstructure by Optical Microscopy (OM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and microhardness. After the welding the samples were machined and hydrogened using a process similar to those used for cathodic protection and submitted to tension tests. The Increase in the preheat and interpass temperature resulted in higher refining the grains of the HAZ however it, increased its average microhardness and extension, promoted greater Fe migration from MB to the buttering, increasing the hydrogen embrittlement. The use of PTA-P process promoted a very lower incidence and diversity of partially diluted zone (PDZ), being found only continuous PDZ. The PWHT promoted a reduction from 20% to 44% of hardness values. Based on the deformation levels and Embrittlement Index (EI), the AISI 4130 steel showed the best results with respect to hydrogen embrittlement.

The recent oil discoveries in deep waters suggest new challenges to the technical area associated to the mechanical and metallurgical properties of the materials used in the oil and gas industry. In this study, we characterized the microstructural variations in the regions of the welded joints, arising from the buttering of the modified AISI 8630, after being buttered with ER80S-D2 by the welding process MAG. Regarding the methodology used, the substrate was previously subjected to the heat treatment of quenching hardening and tempering followed by buttering. This was divided into two parts. One was subjected to heat treatment for stress relief and the other was preserved without subsequent heat treatment for comparison. In this work, hardness and micro-hardness tests were performed, as well as the microstructural analysis by optical and scanning electron microscopy. Based on the results it was concluded that the heat treatment for relieving stress produced a profile of hardness according with the materials standards for environments containing H2S found in the oil and gas sector. The region between the HAZ and FZ showed a smooth transition without the presence of partially diluted areas. This transition region showed an increase of hardness probably due to the formation of precipitates, however, the hardness was within the limits set by the standards applied in extraction of oil and gas by the oil industry. Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES As novas descobertas petrolíferas em águas profundas sugerem novos desafios à área técnica, relacionados às propriedades mecânica e metalúrgica dos materiais utilizados na indústria de petróleo e gás. Neste trabalho, propôs-se caracterizar as variações microestruturais das regiões na junta soldada, decorrentes do amanteigamento do aço AISI 8630 modificado, com ER80S-D2 pelo processo de soldagem MAG. Na metodologia empregada, o metal de base foi previamente submetido a um tratamento térmico de têmpera e revenido, seguido de amanteigamento. Na sequência a amostra foi dividido em duas partes. Uma foi submetida a um tratamento térmico de alívio de tensões e a outra foi mantida, sem tratamento térmico posterior, para comparação. Neste trabalho, foram realizados ensaios de dureza e microdureza, bem como a análise microestrutural por microscopia ótica e eletrônica de varredura. Através dos resultados, foi constatado que o tratamento térmico de alívio de tensões produziu um perfil de dureza compatível com as normas de materiais para ambientes contendo H2S do setor de petróleo e gás. A região entre a ZF e a ZTA apresentou uma transição uniforme sem a presença de zonas parcialmente diluídas. Esta região de transição apresentou aumento de dureza, provavelmente devido à formação de precipitados, contudo, a microdureza e a dureza manteve-se dentro dos limites estabelecidos pelas normas aplicadas em áreas de extração de óleo e gás pela indústria do petróleo

This study examined the influence of hydrogen in quasi-static toughness of dissimilar welded joint, consisting of base metals steel AISI 8630M and ASTM A36, HSLA steels classified as (High Strength Low Alloy). As a metal filler wire AWS-ERNiCrMo 3ARBL was used both in the buttering 8630M steel sheet as the welding filling. This is a welded joint similar to one of the most used joints in the oil sector that, by the last decade have shown some fractures by circumferential cracking, is being studied worldwide in order to identify the causes and safer solutions for your application. As parameter of fracture toughness is studied the CTOD (Crack Top Open Displecement) using type specimens SE(B) subjected to three point bending. The assays were performed in air after pre-doping cathodic hydrogen into water at 0°C synthetic sea, having to main references the standards ISO 12135: 2002 and ISO 15653: 2010 The results showed a significant susceptibility of the steel 8630M to retained hydrogen, reaching a embrittlement via CTOD around 25%. In turn, the dissimilar welding joint CTOD values present twice that of the base metal (steel 8630M), under the conditions with and without hydrogenation, had virtually no susceptibility to the cathodic hydrogen retained in their microstructure Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES O presente trabalho analisou a influencia do hidrogênio na tenacidade quase estática de uma junta soldada dissimilar constituída dos metais de base aços AISI 8630M e ASTM A36, classificados como aços ARBL (Alta Resistência e Baixa Liga). Como metal de adição utilizou-se o arame AWS ERNiCrMo-3 (comercialmente conhecido como INCONEL 625) tanto no amanteigamento da chapa de aço 8630M, quanto no enchimento da solda. Trata-se de uma junta soldada similar a junta AISI 8630M-Inconel 625-API X65, bastante utilizada no setor petrolífero que, por ter apresentado na última década algumas fraturas por trincamento circunferencial, vem sendo mundialmente estudada com o intuito de se identificar as causas e soluções mais seguras para sua aplicação. Como parâmetro de tenacidade à fratura estudou-se o deslocamento de abertura da ponta da trinca, do inglês CTOD (Crack Top Open Displecement), utilizando-se espécimes tipo SE(B) submetido à flexão em três pontos. Os ensaios foram realizados ao ar após pré- dopagem por hidrogênio catódico em água do mar sintética a 0ºC, tendo como principais referencias as Normas ISO 12135: 2002 e ISO 15653: 2010. Os resultados apresentaram uma significativa susceptibilidade do aço 8630M ao hidrogênio retido, apresentando uma queda na tenacidade (CTOD) em torno de 25%. Por sua vez, a junta soldada dissimilar além de apresentar valores de CTOD duas vezes superior ao do metal de base (aço 8630M), nas condições com e sem hidrogenação, praticamente não apresentou susceptibilidade ao hidrogênio retido em sua microestrutura

With the recent discovery of the existence of oil deposits in Brazil. Those responsible for the exploitation are becoming increasingly aware of the development of technologies for the extraction of oil and natural gas in deep waters. In this scholarly work, one of these developed technologies, the base metal steel SAE 8630 modified by the addition of metal buttery INCONEL 625 (AWS ER NiCrMo 3) through the MIG welding process, was investigated. To minimize the formation of martensite thermal cycles of annealing 873oC in a period of one hour and two thermal cycles strain relief (before and after buttering), both at temperatures of 677oC in a range of two hours. After these processes it was possible to verify the presence of diffusion processes of chemical elements and formation of possible precipitates. These trials were conducted by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy coupled with EDS while changes in hardness and toughness were observed before and after heat treatment for stress relief of the metal. These are the metallurgical and mechanical results from analysis of the areas close to regions of the MB, HAZ, ZL and MB. Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior Com as recentes revelações da existência de jazidas de petróleo no território brasileiro. Fez se que os responsáveis pela exploração destas regiões, se demonstrem apreensivos quanto ao desenvolvimento de tecnologias para a extração de petróleo e de gás natural em águas profundas. Neste trabalho acadêmico, com o uso de uma dessas tecnologias em desenvolvimento, foi abordado o uso do metal de base o aço SAE 8630 modificado, amanteigado pelo metal de adição INCONEL 625 (AWS E NiCrMo 3) através do processo de soldagem MIG. Para minimizar a constituição da martensita, foram aplicados ciclos térmicos de têmpera de 873oC em um intervalo de uma hora e mais dois ciclos térmicos de alívio de tensões (antes e após o amanteigamento), ambos em temperaturas de 677oC em um intervalo de duas horas. Verificou se a presença de processos de difusão de elementos químicos e formação de possíveis precipitados. Estes foram caracterizados pelos ensaios de microscopia ótica e microscopia eletrônica de varredura juntamente com o EDS e alterações quanto a microdureza e dureza foram observadas antes e após o tratamento térmico de alívio de tensões. Sendo estes resultados metalúrgicos e mecânicos analisados em áreas próximas das regiões do MB, ZTA, ZL e MB.

Este trabalho tem por objetivo avaliar a capacidade de detecção e dimensionamento de descontinuidades internas em juntas soldadas dissimilares e cladeadas com a utilização da inspeção por ultrassom através da técnica de Phased Array. Este estudo se justifica pela possibilidade da aplicação desses materiais nas atividades de exploração de petróleo no campo offshore com a utilização de dutos rígidos de aço carbono com revestimento interno de Inconel. As juntas circunferenciais foram soldadas com material austenítico e foram realizados ensaios com juntas sem a realização do amanteigamento do bisel e com corpos de provas que receberam camadas de amanteigamento que tem a finalidade de aumentar a resistência à corrosão-fadiga da junta circunferencial. A tubulação soldada tinha como material de base um aço ferrítico API 5L X-52 com revestimento interno de Inconel 625. As descontinuidades foram inseridas nos passes de raiz fabricadas com o processo de soldagem TIG, nos passes de enchimento através do processo por eletrodos revestidos e na região da raiz através do processo de eletroerosão com a finalidade de simular uma falta de fusão na raiz. Para as inspeções foram adotados as varreduras setorial e linear com duas posições do cabeçote em relação à linha de centro da solda. Estas foram realizadas com o intuito de avaliar a capacidade de detecção e dimensionamento das descontinuidades através da utilização de ondas transversais com freqüência de 5 MHz e assim analisar os resultados encontrados para poder viabilizar a aplicação desta técnica como ferramenta de inspeção nestes equipamentos. Análises metalográficas serviram para realizar o dimensionamento real das descontinuidades e caracterizar a micrografia do metal de base, zona afetada pelo calor e metal de solda para poder correlacioná-los com os resultados encontrados nas inspeções por Phased Array. Assim com os resultados encontrados foi possível demonstrar a possibilidade de aplicação da técnica de Phased Array na inspeção das juntas dissimilares e cladeadas. This work aims to evaluate the detection capability and sizing of internal discontinuities in dissimilar welded and claded joints with the use of Phased Array ultrasonic inspection technique. This study was performed due to the possibility of the application of those materials in the activities of exploration of petroleum in the offshore field with the use of rigid risers of carbon steel with internal covering of Inconel. The girths joints were welded with material austenitic and testing were accomplished with joints without the realization of the buttering of the bevel and with specimens that received layers of buttering that has the purpose of increasing the resistance to the corrosion-fatigue of the girth joint. The welded piping had as base material a ferritic steel API 5L X-52 with internal overlay of Inconel 625. The discontinuities were inserted in the root pass manufactured with the welding process TIG, in the filler pass through the process by covered electrodes and in the area of the root through the electric discharge machining process with the purpose of simulating a lack of fusion in the root. For the inspections the sectorial and linear sweepings were adopted with two positions of the transducer in relation to the line of center of the weld. This was performed with the intention of evaluating the detection capacity and sizing of discontinuities through the use of shear waves frequently of 5 MHz and like this to analyze the results found to make possible the application of this technique as inspection tool in these equipments. Metallographic analyses were to accomplish the real sizing of the discontinuities and to characterize the micrograph of the base metal, affected area for the heat and weld metal to correlate them with the results found in the inspections by Phased Array. Like this with the found results it was possible to demonstrate the possibility of application of Phased Array technique in the inspection of the dissimilar and claded joints.
