Adolescents in foster care are removed from their families of origin and are placed with foster families for temporary care until they are able to be granted a more permanent placement. This purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the bonding experience of adolescents in foster care = with their foster parents. This study included 10 foster parents who had an African-American adolescent between the ages of 12 to 18 in their care. Interviews were audio recorded and transcribed verbatim. The analysis began with coding to develop an understanding of the bonding experiences between adolescents and their foster parents. Four processes emerged that seemed to influence bonding: communicating in conflict with empathy or assertion, sharing personal time, creating rituals, and offering support. Foster parents appeared to demonstrate the processes when there was a focus on the adolescent being a part of the family. This present study has implications for theory, research, and practice. AbstractBonding is the key step in the fabrication of microfluidic devices. In the conventional approaches for the fabrication of polymer-based microfluidics, the substrate and cover plate were fabricated and then bonded to enclose the micro channels. Various methods have been invented for bonding polymer-based microfluidics, e.g. adhesive bonding, solvent bonding, thermal fusion, etc., materials with the same or different materials were bonded. The bonding quality of the polymer-based microfluidics is critical during use, leakage or even detachment is not allowed. The bonding quality of polymer-based microfluidic devices has been evaluated in different ways, some of the typical methods include the tensile test, shear test, and burst opening test, and each method has its own strengths and weaknesses. The standard procedure for bonding strength test hasn’t been established yet. In this study, different evaluation methods for bonding quality were discussed and compared in detail, the application scenarios for each method are also discussed. Background: Negative childbirth experiences can be related to the onset of perinatal post-traumatic stress symptomatology (P-PTSS), which significantly impacts the mother and the infant. As a response in the face of the discomfort caused by P-PTSS, maladaptive emotion regulation strategies such as brooding can emerge, contributing to the consolidation of post-partum depressive symptoms. Ultimately, both types of symptomatology, P-PTSS and post-partum depression, can act as risk factors for developing mother-child bonding difficulties. Still, this full set of temporal paths has to date remained untested. The present longitudinal study aimed to analyze the risk factors associated with the appearance of P-PTSS after post-partum and to test a path model considering the role of P-PTSS as an indirect predictor of bonding difficulties at eight months of postpartum. Methods: An initial sample of pregnant women in the third trimester of gestation (N = 594) participated in a longitudinal study comprising two follow-ups at two and eight months of postpartum. The mothers completed online evaluations that included socio-demographic data and measures of psychological variables. A two-step linear regression model was performed to assess the predictive role of the variables proposed as risk factors for P-PTSS, and a path model was formulated to test the pathways of influence of P-PTSS on bonding difficulties. Results: A history of psychopathology of the mother, the presence of depression during pregnancy, the presence of medical complications in the mother, and the occurrence of traumatic birth experiences all acted as significant predictors of P-PTSS, explaining 29.5% of its variance. Furthermore, the path model tested further confirmed an indirect effect of P-PTSS, triggered by a negative childbirth experience, on subsequent bonding difficulties eight months after labor through its association with higher levels of brooding and, ultimately, postpartum depression levels. A further path showed that bonding difficulties at two months postpartum can persist at eight months postpartum due to the onset of brooding and postpartum depression symptoms. Conclusion: We identified a set of robust predictors of P-PTSS: the mother's previous history of depression, perinatal depression during pregnancy, the presence of medical complications in the mother and the occurrence of traumatic birth experiences, which has important implications for prevention. This is particularly relevant, as P-PTSS, when triggered by a negative childbirth experience, further indirectly predicted the development of mother-child bonding difficulties through the mediation of higher use of brooding and symptoms of postpartum depression. Objectives: This in vitro study evaluated the effect of different colouring solutions and primer systems used in the bonding of brackets on enamel colour change and bond strength. Materials and methods: 120 premolar teeth were divided into four main groups; brackets were bonded with 37% orthophosphoric acid + Transbond XT Primer in Group 1, 3 M Single Bond Universal in Group 2, Transbond Plus SEP in Group 3, and G-Premio Bond in Group 4. Each group was divided into three subgroups, and the teeth were placed in a cup containing coffee and tea mixture, in a cup containing cola and in distilled water. A bond strength test was applied to all teeth. Colour measurements of all teeth were performed at 2 different times: before bonding and after the bond strength test. Results: The average bond strength of the 37% orthophosphoric acid group was higher than that of the other groups. The effect of primer and solution groups on colour change was statistically significant (p = 0.001 and p = 0.023, respectively). Conclusions: In this study, the bond strength was clinically sufficient in all primer groups. The highest colour change was observed when the tea–coffee solution and Transbond Plus SEP primer were used. Clinical relevance: This study has identified enamel discoloration and bond strength from different colouring solutions and primer systems used for bonding braces, which can be used to inform clinicians and patients to achieve better treatment results. Context: In this study, we have investigated the structure, reactivity, bonding, and electronic transitions of DPA and PDTC along with their Ni-Zn complexes using DFT/TD-DFT methods. The energy gap between the frontier orbitals was computed to understand the reactivity pattern of the ligands and metal complexes. From the energies of FMO's, the global reactivity descriptors such as electron affinity, ionization potential, hardness (η), softness (S), chemical potential (μ), electronegativity (χ), and electrophilicity index (ω) have been calculated. The complexes show a strong NLO properties due to easily polarization as indicated by the narrow HOMO–LUMO gap. The polarizability and hyperpolarizabilities of the complexes indicate that they are good candidates for NLO materials. Molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) maps identified electrophilic and nucleophilic sites on the surfaces of the complexes. TDDFT and NBO analyses provided insights into electronic transitions, bonding, and stabilizing interactions within the studied complexes. DPA and PDTC exhibited larger HOMO–LUMO gaps and more negative electrostatic potentials compared to their metal complexes suggesting the higher reactivity. Ligands (DPA and PDTC) had absorption spectra in the range of 250 nm to 285 nm while their complexes spanned 250 nm to 870 nm. These bands offer valuable information on electronic transitions, charge transfer and optical behavior. This work enhances our understanding of the electronic structure and optical properties of these complexes. Methods: Gaussian16 program was used for the optimization of all the compounds. B3LYP functional in combination with basis sets, such as LanL2DZ for Zn, Ni and Cu while 6-311G** for other atoms like C, H, O, N, and S was used. Natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis is carried out to find out how the filled orbital of one sub-system interacts with the empty orbital of another sub-system. The ORCA software is used for computing spectral features along with the zeroth order regular approximation method (ZORA) to observe its relativistic effects. The general synthesis of heteroleptic acyclic silylenes with a bulky carbazolyl substituent (dtbpCbz) is detailed and a series of compounds with a chalcogenide substituent of the type [(dtbpCbz)SiE16R] (E16R=OtBu, SEt, SePh, TePh) is reported. With the bulky carbazolyl substituent present, the chalcogenide moiety can be very small, as is shown by incorporating groups as small as ethyl, phenyl or tert‐butyl. For the first time, the electronic properties of the silylene can be tuned along a complete series of chalcogenide substituents. The effects are clearly visible in the NMR and UV/Vis spectra, and were rationalised by DFT computations. The reactivity of the heaviest chalcogenide‐substituted silylenes was probed by reactions with trimethylphosphine selenide and the terphenyl azide TerN3 (Ter=2,6‐dimesitylphenyl). This paper investigates the manufacturing uncertainties at a 60 GHz millimeter-wave band for the monolithic hybrid microwave integrated circuits (MHMIC) fabrication process. It specifically deals with the implementation tolerances of thin-film gold microstrip transmission lines, titanium oxide thin-layer resistors, microstrip quarter-wavelength radial stubs, and active device implementation using the gold-bonding ribbons. The impacts of these manufacturing tolerances are assessed and experimentally quantified through prototyped MHMIC circuits. This allows us, on one hand, to identify the acceptable amount of dimensional variation enabling reasonable performances. On the other hand, it aims to establish a relationship between the manufacturing tolerances and the circuit parameters to provide more flexibility for the tolerance compensation and accuracy enhancement of the MHMIC fabrication processes. Background: Prenatal bonding describes the emotional connection expectant parents form to their unborn child. Research acknowledges the association between antenatal imaging and enhanced bonding, but the influencing factors are not well understood, particularly for fathers or when using advanced techniques like fetal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This study aimed to identify variables which may predict increased bonding after imaging. Methods: First-time expectant parents (mothers = 58, fathers = 18) completed a two-part questionnaire (QualtricsXM™) about their expectations and experiences of ultrasound (n = 64) or fetal MRI (n = 12) scans in uncomplicated pregnancies. A modified version of the Prenatal Attachment Inventory (PAI) was used to measure bonding. Qualitative data were collected through open-ended questions. Multivariate linear regression models were used to identify significant parent and imaging predictors for bonding. Qualitative content analysis of free-text responses was conducted to further understand the predictors' influences. Results: Bonding scores were significantly increased after imaging for mothers and fathers (p < 0.05). MRI-parents reported significantly higher bonding than ultrasound-parents (p = 0.02). In the first regression model of parent factors (adjusted R2 = 0.17, F = 2.88, p < 0.01), employment status (β = -0.38, p < 0.05) was a significant predictor for bonding post-imaging. The second model of imaging factors (adjusted R2 = 0.19, F = 3.85, p < 0.01) showed imaging modality (β = -0.53), imaging experience (β = 0.42) and parental excitement after the scan (β = 0.29) were significantly (p < 0.05) associated with increased bonding. Seventeen coded themes were generated from the qualitative content analysis, describing how scans offered reassurance about fetal wellbeing and the opportunity to connect with the baby through quality interactions with imaging professionals. A positive scan experience helped parents to feel excited about parenthood. Fetal MRI was considered a superior modality to ultrasound. Conclusions: Antenatal imaging provides reassurance of fetal development which affirms parents' emotional investment in the pregnancy and supports the growing connection. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of sterilization on the retention forces of lithium disilicate (LD) and polymer‐infiltrated ceramic network (PICN) crowns bonded to titanium base (Ti‐base) abutments. Materials and methods: Forty LD and 40 PICN crowns were milled and then bonded to 80 Ti‐bases with two resin composite cements: Multilink Hybrid Abutment (mh) and Panavia V5 (pv) for a total of 8 groups (n = 10). Half of the specimens (test) underwent an autoclaving protocol (pressure 1.1 bar, 121°C, 20.5 min) and the other half not (control). Restorations were screw‐retained to implants, and retention forces (N) were measured with a pull‐off testing machine. The surfaces of the Ti‐bases and the crowns were inspected for the analysis of the integrity of the marginal bonding interface and failure mode. Student's t‐test, chi‐square test, and univariate linear regression model were performed to analyze the data (α = 0.05). Results: The mean pull‐off retention forces ranged from 487.7 ± 73.4 N to 742.2 ± 150.3 N. Sterilized groups showed statistically significant overall higher maximum retention forces (p <.05), except for one combination (LD + mh). Sterilization led to an increased presence of marginal gaps and deformities compared to no‐sterilization (p <.001), while no statistically significant relationship was found between failure mode and sterilization (p >.05). Conclusions: Sterilization may have a beneficial effect on the retention forces of LD and PICN crowns bonded to titanium base abutments, although it may negatively influence the integrity of the marginal bonding interface. The factors governing 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition reactions involving C≡P‐containing compounds are computationally explored in detail using quantum chemical tools. To this end, the parent process involving tBuN3 and tBuCP is analyzed and compared to the analogous reaction involving organometallic cyaphide complexes (metal=Au, Pt, Ge, Mg), in order to understand the role of the metal fragment in such transformations. It is found that while the metal fragment does not significantly influence the aromaticity of the corresponding concerted transition states or the regioselectivity of the transformation, it may modify the reactivity of the cyaphide complexes (i. e. Ge and Mg cyaphide complexes are comparatively more reactive). The computed reactivity trends and the factors behind the regioselectivity of the cycloaddition reaction are quantitatively analyzed with the help of the activation strain model in combination with the energy decomposition analysis method. Purpose: Adhesively bonded joints are used in many fields, especially in the automotive, marine, aviation, defense and outdoor industries. Adhesive bonding offers advantages over traditional mechanical methods, including the ability to join diverse materials, even load distribution and efficient thermal-electrical insulation. This study aims to investigate the mechanical properties of adhesively bonded joints, focusing on adherends produced with auxetic and flat surfaces adhered with varying adhesive thicknesses. Design/methodology/approach: The research uses three-dimensional (3D)-printed materials, polyethylene terephthalate glycol and polylactic acid, and two adhesive types with ductile and brittle properties for single lap joints, analyzing their mechanical performance through tensile testing. The adhesion region of one of these adherends was formed with a flat surface and the other with an auxetic surface. Adhesively bonded joints were produced with 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4 mm bonding thickness. Findings: Results reveal that auxetic adherends exhibit higher strength compared to flat surfaces. Interestingly, the strength of ductile adhesives in auxetic bonded joints increases with adhesive thickness, while brittle adhesive strength decreases with thicker auxetic bonds. Moreover, the auxetic structure displays reduced elongation under comparable force. Originality/value: The findings emphasize the intricate interplay between adhesive type, bonded surface configuration of adherend and bonding thickness, crucial for understanding the mechanical behavior of adhesively bonded joints in the context of 3D-printed materials. In order to study the effect of interfacial agent on the bonding properties of wet joints, the optimal dosage of silica fume in the interfacial agent of silica fume cement paste was determined through mechanical property test. Then, the splitting tensile strength test, three-point bending test and shear strength test were conducted to explore the use of ordinary cement paste, cement paste with optimal dosage of silica fume and epoxy resin as interfacial agent. Effect on bonding properties of wet joints. The results show that the mechanical properties of the cement paste are the best when the optimal content of silica fume is 8% . The effects of different interfacial agents on the bonding properties of wet joints are analyzed from the tensile and shear angles, and the order from the largest to the smallest is: epoxy resin interfacial agent > 8% silica fume cement interfacial agent > ordinary cement interfacial agent > no interfacial agent. It is concluded that the interface agent of ordinary cement paste has little improvement on the bonding property of wet joints, while the interface agent of epoxy resin and 8% silica cement paste has obvious improvement on the bonding property of wet joints. The structures and bonding of selected neutral M(CO)6 complexes (M = Sc, Y, La, Lu, Ac and U) have been studied by density functional theory calculations. The calculations revealed the preference for C2v symmetry and low-spin electronic state for most of these complexes. The relative stability of the low-symmetry species increases gradually with the size of the metal atom. While the characteristic Oh hexa-coordinated structure is favored in the high-spin electronic state of the smaller metals, for heavier metals, important advantages of the C2v vs. Oh structures include larger charge transfer interactions in terms of transferred electrons as well as better steric conditions. Tandem solar cells are rationally designed and fabricated by stacking multiple subcells to achieve power conversion efficiency well above the Shockley‐Queisser (SQ) limit. There is a large selection pool for the subcell candidates, such as Si, III–V, Kesterite, Perovskite, and organic solar cells. A series of different combinations of these subcells have been successfully demonstrated in practical tandem solar cell devices. However, there has not been a systematic summary of how to connect subcells in a tandem solar cell using a practical, cost‐effective, and efficiency‐beneficial fashion. In this work, the connection manners of subcells within a tandem cell are classified into three main categories, performing sequential growth, using the physical connection, and applying an intermediate layer, focusing on systematical description of intermediate layers using different materials. The advantages and disadvantages of these connection methods and their applicability to tandem cell types are further elaborated using two typical example models, III–V/Si and Perovskite inclusive tandem cell devices. Eventually, this work can provide useful guidance on how to carry out a suitable intermediate connection in the design of tandem solar cells depending on the selected subcells and device structure. Introduction: Multisensory intervention for preterm babies is developmentally appropriate and has the capacity to integrate information from different senses-Auditory, Tactile, Visual, and Vestibular (ATVV). Involving mothers in the intervention may help mimic the preterm babies' intrauterine environment. Mothers need to be systematically and effectively guided through the ATVV intervention. Before implementing the practice, it is important to ensure that mothers are sensitised with the necessary knowledge about multisensory intervention. Hence, assessing mothers' knowledge of multisensory intervention is a significant step preceding any intervention. Aim: To assess the knowledge of multisensory intervention among mothers of preterm babies with the intention of preparing an educational package on multisensory intervention. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among mothers of preterm babies admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of a selected hospital in Mangaluru, Karnataka, India. A total of 97 mothers were selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data on mothers' knowledge were gathered using a proforma on baseline characteristics and a structured knowledge questionnaire on multisensory intervention for preterm babies. The data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The overall knowledge scores of mothers on multisensory intervention showed a mean±SD of 7.42±2.06 with a mean percentage of 24.74%. Most mothers, 91 (93.8%), had inadequate knowledge, and 6 (6.2%) had moderate knowledge. The area-wise knowledge score of mothers revealed that in the concept of multisensory intervention, the mean±SD was 1.93±0.89 with a mean percentage of 38.56%. In the components of multisensory intervention, the mean±SD was 2.20±1.18 with a mean percentage of 24.40%. In understanding preterm babies' behaviour, the mean±SD was 2.67±1.15 with a mean percentage of 29.67%. In aspects of practice in multisensory intervention, the mean±SD was 0.63±0.69 with a mean percentage of 8.98%. This indicates that most mothers had inadequate knowledge in the areas of multisensory intervention. A significant association between knowledge scores and the sex of the preterm babies was found (p-value=0.03). Conclusion: Most mothers had inadequate knowledge on multisensory intervention. Consequently, an educational package was developed, which included a video on multisensory intervention for preterm neonates and a handout to help mothers acquire knowledge and guide their practice. Objectives: To investigate the influence of adhesive resin application modalities on the film thickness of the adhesive resin and the effectiveness of a two-step universal adhesive (UA) bonded in self-etch (SE) bonding mode to high C-factor class-I cavity-bottom dentin. Materials and methods: After application of the primer of G2-Bond Universal (G2B, GC), the adhesive resin was applied into standard class-I cavities (human molars) following four application modalities: (1) one layer, strongly air-blown; (2) one layer, gently air-blown; (3) two layers, each gently air-blown; (4) one layer, not air-blown. After being restored with composite, each tooth was sectioned to obtain one micro-specimen (n = 10), of which the adhesive resin film thickness was measured using optical microscopy. The micro-tensile bond strength (μTBS) was tested immediately or upon 100,000 thermocycles. Statistical analyses involved Kruskal–Wallis and Mann–Whitney U testing (p < 0.05). Results: G2B’s μTBS was significantly affected by the adhesive resin application modality and aging. Gently air-blowing the adhesive resin resulted in significantly higher immediate μTBS than strong air-blowing or no air-blowing. No significant difference in μTBS was found between single or double gently air-blown adhesive resin applications. The adhesive resin film thickness significantly varied with the application modalities. Conclusions: A too thin or too thick adhesive resin film thickness adversely affected bond strength of the two-step UA applied in SE mode and high C-factor condition. Clinical relevance: The adhesive resin layer thickness can affect the bonding performance of two-step UAs in high C-factor cavities. Background Virtual psychotherapy for chronic pain (CP) has been shown to be feasible, efficacious, and acceptable; however, little is known about how virtual delivery of group psychotherapy affects participants' experiences. This study aimed to explore the impact of a virtual medium during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on social interactions and therapeutic processes in the context of group psychotherapy for CP management. Methods This qualitative, interview-based study collected data on 18 individuals who participated in virtual group psychotherapy in a tertiary care pain management unit. Results Results of the thematic analysis showed 4 themes. First, the ability to participate and connect was modified by not meeting in person. Connections also occurred differently as the usual patterns of interactions changed. Participants described important shifts in how emotions are communicated and subsequent experience of empathy. Finally, the commonality of chronic pain experience was identified as a central driver of connection between participants. Conclusions Mixed impacts of the virtual medium on group psychotherapy dynamics and processes were found. Future research could explore ways to mitigate the negative impacts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this study was to determine the effects on the colour of adding increasing concentrations of graphene to orthodontic fixed retainer adhesives and to evaluate changes in optical transmission during light curing and the resultant degree of conversion. Two different types of adhesives commonly used for fixed retainers were investigated: A packable composite (Transbond) and a flowable composite (Transbond Supreme). Graphene was added to the adhesives in three different concentrations (0.01, 0.05, and 0.1 wt%). Adhesives without graphene addition were set as control groups. A Minolta colourimeter was used to measure the colour and translucency parameters. Irradiance transmitted during curing was quantified using MARC Light Collector. Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy was used to record degree of conversion. Data were statistically analysed with the Student's t‐test and one‐way ANOVA with Tukey's tests (α = 0.05). The findings showed that incorporating graphene darkened the adhesive colour significantly and reduced translucency. As the graphene concentration reached 0.1 wt%, samples became opaque; yet, no adverse effect on degree of conversion was observed. Summary: Treating insomnia during pregnancy improves sleep and depressed mood. However, given well‐established links between poor sleep and a broad spectrum of adverse maternal outcomes, the benefits of insomnia care may reach beyond sleep and depression. The present study evaluated the preliminary efficacy of 'Perinatal Understanding of Mindful Awareness for Sleep' (PUMAS)—a mindfulness sleep programme tailored to pregnancy that combines behavioural sleep strategies and meditation—for enhancing everyday mindfulness and maternal–fetal attachment, as well as for alleviating anxiety, repetitive thinking, and sleep‐related daytime impairment. We conducted a secondary analysis of a single‐arm proof‐of‐concept trial of 11 pregnant women with fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders diagnosed insomnia disorder who completed PUMAS (six sessions), which was delivered in an individual format via telemedicine video. Pre‐ and post‐treatment outcomes included the Cognitive and Affective Mindfulness Scale‐Revised (CAMS‐R), Maternal–Fetal Attachment Scale (MFAS), Generalised Anxiety Disorder seven‐item survey (GAD‐7), Perseverative Thinking Questionnaire (PTQ), Daytime Insomnia Symptoms Response Scale (DISRS), and the Patient‐Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Sleep‐Related Impairment Scale (PROMIS‐SRI). Symptom changes were evaluated with paired‐samples t tests. Results showed PUMAS patients reported large increases in CAMS‐R (Cohen's dz = 1.81) and medium‐large increases in MFAS scores (Cohen's dz = 0.73). Moreover, PUMAS patients reported large reductions in scores on the GAD‐7 (Cohen's dz = 1.09), PTQ (Cohen's dz = 1.26), DISRS (Cohen's dz = 1.38), and PROMIS‐SRI (Cohen's dz = 1.53). Preliminary evidence suggests that a mindfulness‐based perinatal sleep programme may benefit several domains of maternal wellbeing beyond sleep and depression. PUMAS substantially enhanced patient ratings of everyday mindfulness and maternal–fetal attachment, while reporting alleviations in anxiety, perseverative thinking, insomnia‐focused rumination, and sleep‐related daytime impairment. Background/Aims: The recommended treatment for uncomplicated crown fractures is bonding the fractured fragment or the fragment reattachment. A paucity was identified regarding the studies comparing the efficacy of micro‐hybrid and nanohybrid composites in fragment reattachment. Hence, the present study aimed to evaluate and compare three materials for bonding of fragments rehydrated by humidification in teeth with uncomplicated crown fractures. Material and Methods: Eighty mandibular bovine incisors with similar dimensions and free of any structural deformities were fractured similar to the technique followed in previous studies. Fracture was simulated, fragments, and stumps were coded, stumps were stored in artificial saliva and the fragments were dehydrated at room temperature and pressure. They were randomly assigned to Group‐1 (no rehydration), Group‐2 (rehydrated and bonded by flowable nanohybrid composite—3M Filtek Supreme Syringe Flowable Composite Resin—A2, Sao Paulo, Brazil), Group‐3 (rehydrated and bonded by flowable micro‐hybrid composite‐ Ruby Flow, InciDental, England, United Kingdom), and Group‐4 (rehydrated and bonded by light‐cured Glass‐Ionomer‐Cement—Voco Ionoseal, Cuxhaven, Germany). The samples were subjected to a universal testing machine to evaluate the force required to fracture the bonded fragments. Results: The highest median value of the force required to fracture was recorded for Group 2 (208.4 N) followed by Group 3 (195.2). The force required to fracture the bonded fragments was lowest in Group 4 (67.2 N) which was lower than the negative control (131.4 N). The differences between the observations in Groups 2 and 3 were not found to be statistically significant. Conclusion: The nano and micro‐hybrid composites showed greater force required to fracture than fragments bonded by LC‐GIC. The interfacial bonding between precast conventional concrete (CC) segments and cast-in place high-performance fiber-reinforced cementitious composites (HPFRCC) has received significant attention for jointing applications such as shear key fillers in bridge connections. Poor bonding of materials in these connections may lead to cracking, premature deterioration, and loss of monolithic behavior among segments. Among the emerging composites, cementitious composites comprising a multiscale reactive powder (nanosilica, slag, and cement) and strengthened with single and hybrid fiber systems of basalt fiber pellets (macro-BFP) and polyvinyl alcohol (micro-PVA) were prepared for potential use in shear transfer joints. BFP is a novel class of basalt fibers, where a polymeric resin of textured surface microgrooves was utilized to encapsulate the basalt strands. The study focused on the synergetic evaluation of the mechanical (compressive strength and tensile strength) performance of HPFRCC, and its bonding capacity (slant shear, bishear, and rebar pull-out) with CC and steel rebars. The mechanical trends were corroborated using thermal, microscopy, and mercury intrusion porosimetry studies. The results indicated that nanosilica enhanced the mechanical performance and interfacial bonding with CC and steel rebars. Reduction in mechanical strength and interfacial bonding were observed for specimens comprising a higher dosage (4.5%) of BFP (single fiber system) up to 21%; however, the tensile strain-hardening behavior and rebar interfacial bonding capacity were significantly improved up to 394%, and 174%, respectively. Comparatively, 1% micro-PVA fibers with 2.5% or 4.5% macro-BFP (hybrid systems) in the nanomodified composites resulted in marked improvement in terms of their mechanical properties (up to 47%) and interfacial bonding capacity with CC (up to 82%) and steel rebar (up to 29%), which suggests their promising use as fillers for shear key bridge joints. AbstractCompeting attachment is defined as a relational dynamic where one partner in a romantic relationship turns to someone or something outside of the relationship for comfort, soothing, or other attachment needs. We used path analysis to analyze whether competing attachment predicted relationship satisfaction and whether this relationship was mediated by relational attachment security in adult romantic relationships. We also demonstrated the reliability and validity of the Competing Attachment Scale, which was developed for this study. Participants (N = 151) completed the Competing Attachment Scale (CAS;), the State Adult Attachment Measure, and the Couples Satisfaction Index-16. Competing attachment was found to negatively correlate with relationship satisfaction and state specific attachment security. Additionally, state specific attachment security was found to mediate the relationship between competing attachments and relationship satisfaction. AbstractThe application of a composite-metal alloy lightweight body structure is one of the ways to achieve lightweight in an automobile. Materials such as carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) and aluminum alloys are widely used in the automotive industry due to their excellent performance. However, the significant differences in performance parameters between CFRP and aluminum alloy materials make joining heterogeneous materials challenging. Therefore, a rational joining process is crucial for the development of CFRP–aluminum alloy structures. This study proposes a hybrid joining method that combines flow drill screw (FDS) and adhesive bonding to join commonly used aluminum alloy sheets with CFRP sheets in automotive body manufacturing. Finite element analysis simulations were used to compare and characterize the failure modes of the bonded-FDS hybrid joints in tensile tests. The results were verified for accuracy. Tensile tests were conducted to compare the mechanical performance and failure modes of bonded joints, FDS joints, and hybrid joints. By analyzing the load–displacement curve, it was found that the FDS process in the hybrid joining damages the internal structure of the adhesive layer. However, the joint strength is still higher than that of the single joint strength, and the energy absorption value is about 4.7 times that of the adhesive and 1.6 times that of the FDS. This study provides a new industrial solution and serves as a reference for failure performance in composite material structures in the automotive industry, especially in cases involving one-sided access joining points. Introduction: Admission of a newborn to a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) can be a highly stressful event that affects maternal psychological well-being and disrupts the early maternal-infant bonding relationship. Determining factors that promote maternal-infant bonding among those with a NICU admission is essential for the development of effective interventions. Methods: Using a longitudinal clinic-based sample of diverse and low-income pregnant women, we examined whether maternal-fetal bonding measured during the second trimester moderated the association between NICU admission and postpartum bonding measured at six months post birth, controlling for demographic characteristics. Results: Approximately 18% of the sample experienced a NICU admission at birth. NICU admission was associated with lower postpartum bonding (b = -8.74; p <.001, Model 1), whereas maternal-fetal bonding was associated with higher bonding reported at six months postpartum (b = 3.74, p <.001, Model 2). Results of the interaction revealed that women who reported higher maternal-fetal bonding reported higher postnatal bonding regardless of NICU admission status. Discussion: Because maternal-fetal bonding can be enhanced through intervention, it is a promising target for reducing the risks of NICU admission for the early maternal-infant relationship. Background/objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess how laser conditioning affected brackets bonded to dental ceramics' shear bond strength (SBS). Materials and methods: The study was conducted by searching Pubmed/Medline, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar up to September 14, 2022. In addition, the reference lists of the relevant articles were checked manually. Articles that compared SBS of laser-treated feldspathic, lithium disilicate, or zirconia surfaces with other standard techniques for bonding metal or ceramic orthodontic brackets were considered. Using a random-effects model, data pooling was carried out as the weighted mean difference (WMD). Results: This study initially contained 1717 reports, and following review, 32 articles were deemed suitable for our meta-analysis. The pooling results showed that the treatments with lasers such as "Er:YAG" [WMD= -1.12 MPa; 95% confidence interval (CI): -1.93 to -0.31], "Er:YAG + Silane" (WMD=-3.08 MPa; 95% CI: -4.77 to -1.40), and "Nd: YAG + Silane" (WMD=-2.58 MPa; 95% CI: -3.76 to -1.40) had statistically significant lower adhesion values compared with controls. Contrarily, "Ti:Sapphire femtosecond" demonstrated significantly higher bonding values (WMD= 0.94 MPa; 95% CI: 0.29-1.60). In contrast, other interventions obtained no statistically significant difference in SBS. Conclusions: Most of the laser groups showed results comparable with those of conventional approaches. Inert surface of Polyetherketoneketone (PEKK) jeopardizes resin bonding. This study aimed to present a new adhesive protocol to improve PEKK bonding. A total of 360 PEKK blocks were milled, polished (maximum roughness of 0.20 µm), and randomly assigned to groups. The new protocol was applied (n = 36) and compared to conventional treatments (no treatment; sandblasting (110-µm Al 2 O 3 and silica); no adhesive; Visiolink (Bredent); and PEKKbond (AnaxDent)) (n = 36). For the new protocol, the surface was blasted (110 µm Al 2 O 3 and 96% isopropyl alcohol at 60 psi), followed by 96% isopropyl alcohol washing, and air drying. PEKKbond was applied (dried for 3 min at 77 °C), followed by Visiolink (dried for 3 min at 60 °C); both light-cured for 3 min (800 mW/cm2). Preopaque (GC Europe) and Opaque (AnaxDent) were applied and light-cured (5 min). Morphological topography was analyzed, and flowable gingiva-colored composite (AnaxGum, AnaxDent) was bonded. All specimens were aged for 24 h and thermocycled (5000 cycles, 5–55 °C). Shear bond strength (SBS) was measured (MPa) and data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA, Tukey, and Weibull moduli estimation (α = 0.05). The highest SBS values were found in the new protocol (p < 0.05), regardless of aging. Thermocycling reduced SBS (p < 0.05), while Al 2 O 3 and PEKKbond produced higher SBS values than silica and Visiolink, respectively (p < 0.05). Medical imaging in pregnancy (antenatal imaging) is routine. However, the effect of seeing fetal images on the parent–fetal relationship is not well understood, particularly for fathers or partners, or when using advanced imaging technologies. This review aimed to explore how parent experience and prenatal attachment is impacted by antenatal imaging. Database searches were performed between September 2020 and April 2021 Inclusion criteria were English language primary research studies published since 2000, describing or reporting measures of attachment after antenatal imaging in expectant parents. The Pillar Integration Process was used for integrative synthesis. Twenty-three studies were included. Six pillar themes were developed: 1) the scan experience begins before the scan appointment; 2) the scan as a pregnancy ritual; 3) feeling actively involved in the scan; 4) parents' priorities for knowledge and understanding of the scan change during pregnancy; 5) the importance of the parent–sonographer partnership during scanning; and 6) scans help to create a social identity for the unborn baby. Antenatal imaging can enhance prenatal attachment. Parents value working collaboratively with sonographers to be actively involved in the experience. A high-performance concrete rapid patching repair material needs to develop high early strength to satisfy traffic opening requirements, yet provides sufficient durability to sustain different environmental conditions and primary deterioration mechanisms for full-depth concrete repair. In this study, a set of experiments was conducted to evaluate the performance of developed pavement repair mixtures subjected to different environmental conditions, including low ambient temperature, highly reactive siliceous aggregate, wet/dry cycling, and moisture loss. Full-scale slab patching was also carried out to assess the rapid patching mixtures' constructability, compatibility, and interface bonding with the concrete substrate. Patching materials with a reduced cement content and Type IP cement exhibited a lower drying shrinkage rate and less deterioration from wet/dry cycles compared with commonly used patching mixtures that typically use high cement content and Type I cement. The tendency of alkali-silica reaction deterioration was reduced significantly by replacing 50% Type III cement with Type IP cement. The rapid patching mixtures generally displayed a high degree of early-age shrinkage but with satisfactory compatibility and good bonding with the concrete substrate. The film formation properties of asphalt emulsion under ambient temperature drying are important to the mechanical properties of cold asphalt emulsion mixture. Nevertheless, the importance of these properties is not fully understood yet. The dynamic modulus and bonding ability of emulsion residue were studied to characterise the film formation properties of asphalt emulsion. The maximum packing fraction of asphalt droplets (ϕm) formed during drying was proposed to quantitatively characterise the film structure of emulsion residue. The relationship between the film properties and ϕm of asphalt emulsion was studied to reveal the mechanism for the different film formation properties of asphalt emulsions. Results showed that the residue properties of different asphalt emulsions could be significantly different due to the various film structure of emulsion residue formed under ambient temperature drying. The dynamic modulus and bonding ability of emulsion residue can linearly increase with the ϕm of asphalt emulsion. Besides, the ϕm of asphalt emulsion is decreased with the increasing asphalt droplet size. In the current investigation, fibers extracted from the areca nut tree husk were either used unprocessed or processed with an alkaline treatment by being submerged in a 5 % sodium hydroxide solution. The average length of the areca fibers used in this work is 30 mm. Compression molding is used to create the composite out of an epoxy matrix with fibers added at 10, 15, 20 and 25 weight percent. The composites were tested for tensile strength, flexural modulus, Charpy impact, and shore D hardness, all of which showed the significant advantage acquired with quantity of fibers and fiber treatment. Pin on disc tribometer was used to conduct tribological tests on the treated fiber composites to analyse how the fiber-matrix bonding improved with an increase in fiber content. The primary shortcoming of the fibers is their relatively low elongation, which, even after treatment, hardly approaches 4 %. This indicates that the fibers are not uniform in length and prevents direct comparison to comparable composites containing a similar volume and length of natural fibers. The mechanical qualities of materials made with alkali treated chopped areca fibers where found to be enhanced when it was at 20 % volume fraction. A linear increment in values where observed in samples till 20 % volume fraction and a decrement with further increase in volume fraction. In order to study the interaction between composite photocatalytic material TiO2@LDO and matrix asphalt, the four-component 12 molecular structure model of 70# matrix asphalt was optimized by using software Materials Studio 2020, and its heterostructure with TiO2@LDO composite was modeled. The bonding performance between asphalt and composite photocatalytic material was analyzed by interface energization, and the diffusion performance between asphalt and composite photocatalytic material was analyzed from the perspectives of particle movement and Z-direction density. By changing the temperature and other parameters in the simulation process, the change in bonding strength between TiO2@LDO and asphalt was investigated. Through the calculation and analysis of interaction energy, it was found that the adsorption and bonding strength between asphalt and TiO2@LDO were the strongest at 40 °C. At the same time, the diffusion performance was studied, and it was found that the molecular diffusion distribution of TiO2@LDO was more extensive at 60 °C, which laid the foundation for further blending of asphalt and TiO2@LDO. In the search for common bonding patterns in pure and mixed clusters of beryllium and magnesium derivatives, the most stable dimers and trimers involving BeX2 and MgX2 (X = H, F, Cl) have been studied in the gas phase using B3LYP and M06-2X DFT methods and the G4 ab initio composite procedure. To obtain some insight into their structure, stability, and bonding characteristics, we have used two different energy decomposition formalisms, namely MBIE and LMO-EDA, in parallel with the analysis of the electron density with the help of QTAIM, ELF, NCIPLOT, and AdNDP approaches. Some interesting differences are already observed in the dimers, where the stability sequence observed for the hydrides differs entirely from that of the fluorides and chlorides. Trimers also show some peculiarities associated with the presence of compact trigonal cyclic structures that compete in stability with the more conventional hexagonal and linear forms. As observed for dimers, the stability of the trimers changes significantly from hydrides to fluorides or chlorides. Although some of these clusters were previously explored in the literature, the novelty of this work is to provide a holistic approach to the entire series of compounds by using chemical bonding tools, allowing us to understand the stability trends in detail and providing insights for a significant number of new, unexplored structures. Introduction: Adequate bond strength between orthodontic brackets and enamel is necessary to withstand masticatory forces. Priming involves applying a primer before using the adhesive as a separate step. To reduce bonding time, manufacturers have introduced self-priming adhesives. Aim: To evaluate the Shear Bond Strength (SBS) and Adhesive Remnant Index (ARI) scores of a Bis-GMA based self-priming adhesive (Orthofix SPA, Anabond) and compare it with a 2-Hydroxyethyl Methacrylate (HEMA) based self-priming adhesive (Aqualine LC, Tomy ortho) and a Bis-GMA containing primer-based orthodontic adhesive (Transbond XT, 3M). Materials and Methods: The present In-vitro study was conducted at the White Lab., Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, from December 2020 to January 2021. A total 54 freshly extracted premolar teeth were collected and divided into three groups (Group A - Orthofix SPA, Group B - Transbond XT, and Group C - Aqualine LC) based on the adhesive used. A 0.022 metal orthodontic brackets were bonded, and SBS and ARI scores of the samples were assessed. The Shapiro-Wilk test for normality was conducted. One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to compare the mean and standard deviation of SBS values and ARI scores among the three groups, and a post-hoc Tukey test was performed for inter group comparisons. Results: Significant inter group differences were observed (p=0.004). Group A had lower SBS than Groups B and C. Significant inter group differences (p-value of 0.003) in ARI scores were noted, with Group A having the lowest scores. Conclusion: The Bis-GMA self-priming adhesive (Orthofix SPA) exhibited lower SBS and ARI scores compared to commercially available HEMA-based self-priming adhesive systems and primer-based Bis-GMA adhesive systems. Background: A strong cooperative bond between the patient and provider ("therapeutic alliance") is robustly associated with better alcohol use disorder (AUD) treatment outcomes. Although digital treatments for AUD have significant potential, the function of the alliance during digital programs is unclear. We compared the validity of patient‐reported measures of the alliance with a digital treatment ("digital alliance") for AUD and the alliance with their clinician ("clinician alliance"). Methods: We used data from an 8‐week, randomized clinical trial of a computerized cognitive behavioral therapy program (CBT4CBT) during outpatient AUD treatment. Treatment conditions included CBT4CBT with minimal clinical monitoring (CBT4CBT + monitor) or with treatment as usual (CBT4CBT + TAU). The digital alliance and clinician alliance were measured with similar versions of the Working Alliance Inventory (WAI). The WAI ratings were completed at the 2nd and 6th treatment sessions. A timeline followback calendar assessed daily alcohol use. Bayesian multilevel models compared the strength of the alliances and tested their associations with future alcohol use. Results: Data from 43 participants were included (age M = 44; 65% male; 51% Black, 40% White, 9% other; 14% Hispanic). The digital alliance ratings had similar internal reliability as the clinician alliance ratings (ω's > 0.90). Differences between digital alliance and clinician alliance ratings were negligible in both treatment conditions (BF01 = 9 and 31). During treatment, within‐person increases in the digital alliance and the clinician alliance predicted modest decreases in future drinking to a similar degree (BF01 = 15). Alliance ratings were not associated with future drinking when posttreatment follow‐up drinking data were included (BF10 < 3). Conclusions: The digital alliance with CBT4CBT was comparable to the clinician alliance. The digital alliance and clinician alliance had similar, albeit very small, associations with abstinence during treatment. Wide-band gap and ultra-wide-band gap materials are of great interest since these cover wide range of electromagnetic spectrum for technological device applications. The purpose of this research work is the synthesis and characterization of zinc sulfide (ZnS) nanoparticles by hydrothermal method with different Zn metal contents—ZnS-60%, ZnS-63% and ZnS-72% to observe the behavior of metal contents to tune its band gap. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses confirmed the formation of well-defined spherical-shaped nano-grains, while energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) also supported the inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) analysis. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) confirmed the cubic structure and Zn–S bonds present. ZnS-63% sample is showing band gap value of 4 eV, while the trend of variation in band gap is adjustable with crystallite size. Cemented sands exhibit superior mechanical properties compared to clean sands. Based on this evidence, ground improvement methods are increasingly employed to induce cementing reactions that can bind the solid particles of sands and other soils for the ultimate enhancement of their properties and behavior. Despite increasing ground improvement applications, constitutive models capable of capturing cementation effects on the mechanics of sands remain scarce. This article presents SANISAND-C*: a constitutive model developed in the framework of bounding surface and critical state plasticity to capture cementation effects on the mechanics of sands. In this paper, the mathematical formulation of this model is presented first. Then, a vast amount of experimental data available for different materials (i.e., types of sand), loading conditions (i.e., stress levels and paths), and cementation types (i.e., natural and artificial cementations) is used to validate the model. Based on the comparison between experimental and simulation results, this work finally discusses the capabilities and limitations of the proposed model, highlighting that it can realistically capture key properties of cemented sands: increased strength and stiffness, increased dilatancy, and bond destructuration upon loading. WC–Co cutting tools are widely used in harsh conditions, but the brittleness of this material can limit their use. Joining steels to WC–Co can provide an alternative, by combining the toughness of steel with the high hardness and wear resistance of WC–Co. The creation of textures at the bonding interface is known to increase the adhesion between materials, through a mechanical interlocking effect and an increase in the contact area. In this sense, this work proposes the laser surface texturing of WC–Co green compacts with cross-hatched and circular micropatterns and subsequent pressure-assisted sintering of the textured and sintered WC–Co with 316L SS powder to improve the bonding between materials. Results showed that the bonding of the textured multi-material was successfully processed and an interdiffusion zone was formed at the bonding interface without the presence of detrimental compounds. The addition of textures showed a tendency to increase the shear bond strength, with the cross-hatched micropatterns generally showing a higher bonding strength than the circular micropatterns. This approach showed to have the potential to improve the bonding between materials, thus contributing to the development of novel multi-material WC–Co/316L stainless steel cutting tools with enhanced properties and performance. This study examined the molecular underpinnings of group instrumental music improvisation as well as verbal improvisation in musicians and nonmusicians using blood-based measurements of oxytocin, vasopressin, dopamine, and cortisol, with verbal improvisation serving as a control. All participants (N = 8) were able to successfully complete study tasks as directed and tolerate the blood draws. On average, regardless of musicianship status, males had a greater and directionally divergent change in cortisol when compared to females (males M = -.033; females M = .025) after improvising musically (p < .04). Males also had a significant difference between the decrease in cortisol after music improvisation (M = -.033) compared to an increase in cortisol after verbal improvisation (M = .026; p < .01). The current investigation provided promising results regarding the ability of the study design and procedures to yield useful information when bringing the study to scale with a sufficiently powered sample indicating potential sex and modality based differences. Background & objectives: Postpartum depression and anxiety (PPD/A) impact a woman's physical and psychological wellbeing. In the absence of corroboratory evidence from the community setting in India, the present study was undertaken to examine the prevalence, psychosocial correlates and risk factors for PPD/A in the rural community of India. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 680 women during the postpartum period from a rural community in northern India. Screening for PPD/A was done using Edinburg Postnatal Depression Scale and State and Trait Anxiety Inventory. Diagnostic assessment of screened-positive women was done using Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI). The psychosocial evaluation was done on parameters including women's social support, bonding with the child, functionality, parental stress, interpersonal violence and marital satisfaction. Results: The overall prevalence of PPD/A/both in community women was 5.6 per cent, with a specific prevalence of 2.2 per cent for PPD, 0.74 per cent for PPA and 2.8 per cent for both disorders. Comparative analysis indicated that women with PPD/A/both experienced significantly higher levels of parenting stress, poor lifestyle (prior two weeks), less support from their partner, parents-in-law and parents, less marital satisfaction, high intimate partner violence, poor bonding with infants and higher infant-focussed anxiety. On multivariable logistic regression analysis, higher education, marital satisfaction, support from partners and in-laws were associated with reducing the risk of PPD/A/both. Interpretation & conclusions: Rural Indian women experience PPD/A/both which causes stress and impacts their functionality, bonding with the infant and relationship with their spouse and parents. We analyze possible links between both trust and trustworthiness among Syrian refugees in Germany in relation to two different forms of social networking: bonding networks, which include only other Syrians, and bridging networks, which include people from the host country. Our results show that Syrians who engage in bonding networks show higher levels of trust and (un)conditional trustworthiness when interacting with a Syrian compared to a German participant. In turn, for refugees engaged in bridging networks, the positive discrimination refugees display towards their own peers decreases regarding trust and conditional trustworthiness and vanishes regarding unconditional trustworthiness. Cette étude avait pour but principal d'explorer l'influence de la participation aux cours prénataux sur le sentiment de sécurité et le bonding paternels dans le post-partum, ainsi que pour but secondaire d'investiguer l'intérêt des pères à participer aux cours prénataux. Parmi, 375 pères vivant en France ont répondu en ligne à des questions concernant leur participation aux cours prénataux ainsi qu'à des questionnaires évaluant le sentiment de sécurité postnatale et la qualité du bonding. De manière générale, les résultats obtenus montrent une différence non significative en termes de bonding et de sentiment de sécurité entre les pères ayant participé à plusieurs séances et ceux ayant pris part à un nombre inférieur ou nul de séances d'un cours prénatal. La participation aux cours prénataux et des facteurs socio-démographiques expliquent néanmoins ensemble, une partie significative du sentiment de sécurité et du bonding paternels. De plus, une majorité des participants affirme être intéressé à participer ou à participer davantage aux cours de préparation à la naissance/accouchement et à la parentalité. Ces résultats mettent en évidence l'importance d'explorer davantage l'effet des cours prénataux sur le vécu du post-partum paternel dans l'optique de proposer des accompagnements prénataux adaptés et inclusifs pour des futurs pères. The primary aim of this study was to explore the influence of antenatal class attendance on paternal security and bonding in the postpartum period, while the secondary aim was to investigate fathers' interest in attending antenatal classes. A total of 375 fathers living in France answered several questions online about their participation in prenatal classes as well as questionnaires assessing the sense of postnatal security and bonding quality. In general, the results showed a non-significant difference in terms of bonding and sense of security between fathers who attended multiple sessions and those who attended fewer or no sessions of antenatal classes. Nevertheless, participation in prenatal classes and socio-demographic factors explain together a significant part of the paternal feeling of postnatal security and bonding. In addition, a majority of the participants stated that they would be interested in participating or increasing their participation in birth/childbirth preparation and parenting classes. These results highlight the importance of further exploring the effect of prenatal classes on the paternal postpartum experience in order to propose adapted and inclusive prenatal accompaniments for future fathers. Introduction: Numerous manufacturers have improved bracket retention systems as a result of the frequent bond failure that occurs during orthodontic treatment. One of the elements affecting the adhesive's bond strength is the bracket retention mechanism. Objectives: This study's objective was to assess how various bracket base retention characters affected shear bond strength. Materials and Methods: Four distinct base features for brackets were evaluated. The basic design was examined using a scanning electron microscope. On the Universal testing equipment, brackets were glued to human teeth and then released. Results: The findings indicate that the polymer-coated base's overall mean SBS, which had a mean value of 21.64 ± 4.14 MPa, was considerably greater than that of the other brackets (P 0.05). The foil meshpad, photochemically etched base, and laser-structured base had mean SBS values of 15.12 ± 5.75 MPa, 16.86 ± 3.76 MPa, and 19.32 ± 4.23MPa, respectively. Conclusions: Following laser-structured base and photochemically etched base brackets in terms of shear bond strength were polymer-coated base brackets. Background: Nanosized antibacterial agents can be used to prevent biofilm buildup on orthodontic appliances and auxiliaries, limiting microbial adherence and preventing caries. Nanoparticles (NPs) can enhance the antibacterial properties of orthodontic materials due to their smaller particle size and larger surface area. Materials and Methods: The study's material analysis was divided into four groups, numbered I through IV, using Transbond XT Primer as a control and modifying group I by adding various antibacterial agents. 98.1 g of mutans–sanguis agar was dissolved in 1,000 ml of warm distilled water and autoclaved for 15 minutes at 121°C and 15 lb pressure. 176 disk specimens of 6 mm in diameter were created, sterilized in an autoclave, and heated to 60°C in a hot air oven for 1 hour. Ten milliliters of primer containing different antimicrobial agents was applied to the sterilized disks. Four petri plates were used for each concentration, with 16 disks in each group. 44 petri plates in all were utilized. Results: The orthodontic primer modified by the addition of antibacterial agents showed a significantly increased antimicrobial activity, and nanobenzalkonium chloride (BAC) at 5% concentration showed the highest antimicrobial efficacy among all groups. Nanohydroxyapatite showed the least. Conclusion: Within the confines of the current investigation, it was determined that the addition of antibacterial agents had significantly higher antimicrobial activity and BAC at 5% concentration had the highest antimicrobial efficacy of all the groups. In structural bonds, the interface between adherend and adhesive is nearly two-dimensional making the interface susceptible to minute quantities of contamination, which can cause weak bonds. Regulatory organizations such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) often require redundant load paths in secondary-bonded primary-structures due to uncertainty in bond performance. To address this issue, the NASA Convergent Aeronautics Solutions (CAS): Adhesive Free Bonding of Composites (AERoBOND) project is investigating reformulated aerospace epoxy-matrix resins to enable reflow and diffusion of the resin at the joint interface during a secondary bonding and cure process that can eliminate the material discontinuity at the interface. Implementing in-situ process monitoring enables assessing the bond quality during processing rather than waiting for post-fabrication mechanical testing to be completed. In this paper, an in-situ ultrasonic inspection system is used to monitor the joining of three composite laminates assembled using the AERoBOND technique. For each panel, the amplitude of the wave reflection at the joint was measured throughout the cure cycle. The results indicate the timing and extent of reflow and cure of the epoxy resin at the joint. Factors indicating end of cure were ascertained and a metric was developed to qualitatively predict acceptable mode-II fracture toughness based on the ultrasonic amplitude at the joint line during cure.
