Mental healthcare disregarding sexual revictimisation may insufficiently address the population’s needs.In the current study, a novel individually delivered body-oriented module was considered for its feasibility amongst migrant survivors of sexual violence and trafficking.Thirteen migrant sexual violence survivors engaged in the module in an outpatient mental health care setting in the Netherlands. A multi-method approach was applied to tap into patients’ and therapists’ perspectives on the feasibility of the module using pre-, during, and posttreatment questionnaires, evaluation forms, and (group) interviews.Patients and therapists reported treatment outcomes by the module’s aims, and treatment adherence was high. Bayesian informative hypothesis evaluation revealed that, for seven out of 12 patients (58.33%), body awareness, and self-efficacy in communicating boundaries increased, while body dissociation simultaneously decreased during treatment.Findings suggest that a body-oriented module for sexual revictimisation risk mitigation is feasible amongst migrant survivors. Given the small sample size and lack of a control group, the findings should be interpreted cautiously. Dramatic brain/body transformations and altered person’s relationship with self, others, and the world occur when experiencing multiple types of traumas. In turn, these unfortunate modifications may contribute to predisposition to trauma-related vulnerability conditions, such as externalizing (aggression, delinquency, and conduct disorders) problems. This mini-review analyzes the relations between traumatic experiences (encoded as implicit and embodied procedural memories) and bodily self, sense of safety for the own body, and relationship with others, also in the presence of externalizing conducts. Furthermore, an emerging research area is also considered, highlighting principles and techniques of body-oriented and sensorimotor therapies designed to remodel bodily self-aspects in the presence of trauma, discussing their potential application with individuals showing externalizing problems. In interaction with their mother, infants not only learn how human relationships work, but – on an even more basic level – the continuous bidirectional, interactive regulation between mother and infant shapes the infant's socioemotional development. Coordinated interactions alternate with uncoordinated ones, the latter resulting in momentary ruptures during this dyadic exchange. Usually, these are quickly repaired. The mother's capacity for engaging with her infant in a sensitive and appropriate manner is crucial for successful socioemotional development. On a transgenerational level, a mother will draw on her own relational experiences – embodied as implicit memory – when interacting with her baby. Thus, comprehensive and effective treatment of maternal postpartum disorders that often impair the mother's interactive skills and capacity for maternal bonding is of great importance. One aim of modern mother-infant treatment is to target dysfunctional interactive patterns, often with the help of video feedback and microanalysis of behavioral observations. In this paper, after giving an overview of affective regulation in mother-infant dyads and the role of maternal factors and postpartum mental health, we describe relationship-focused approaches to mother-infant treatment. Our focus lies on video feedback and body-oriented interventions. We also explore classical as well as contemporary theoretical underpinnings in mother-infant research and how psychoanalytic concepts like containment and mentalization not only enrich approaches to mother-infant treatment but also adult treatment in general. We conclude that working with and expanding one's own implicit relational knowledge is central for the therapeutic process and can be initiated by video-based interventions or by genuinely experiencing and reflecting on interactions in dyads and groups. Abstract Background Binge Eating Disorder (BED) is the most common eating disorder. Patients with BED are often not diagnosed, nor offered adequate specific treatment. A great number of those who receive recommended treatment do not recover over time. More knowledge about central aspects of BED, and treatments that specifically target such aspects is needed. Previous research has linked body experience to the development and maintenance of eating disorders, as well as influencing treatment results and the risk of relapse. The aim of this study was to explore how patients with BED experience Basic Body Awareness Therapy (BBAT), which is a psychomotor physiotherapy treatment addressing body experience. Method In this phenomenological study, we interviewed two patients with BED in depth during and after treatment. Video observations of treatment sessions and logs written by the patients were used as supporting data. The analysis was guided by Van Manen’s hermeneutic phenomenology. Results A meaning structure was identified: “On the way from the body as a problem to the body as a possibility.” The two participants that besides BED also had a history of childhood trauma, perceived BBAT as a process of getting to know their own bodies in new ways, and described that the way they related to their own body changed as did aspects of their way of being. These changes were prominent when the participants described emotions, movement, pain, calmness, and self-experience, and interwoven with relational aspects as well as practices in everyday life. Conclusion The present results indicate that BBAT stimulated body experience in a way that opened new possibilities for two participants with BED, and hence that BBAT can improve the health status of BED patients also suffering from childhood trauma.

It is important to develop effective approaches for helping children with this addiction. Objectives The goal of this study was to reveal effect of body-oriented therapy on executive abilities in children with computer game addiction. Particularly we compared the efficacy of two methods of treatment (body-oriented therapy for children vs. conventional motor exercises) in a randomized controlled pilot study. Methods 16 7-year-old children with computer game addiction were included and randomly assigned to treatment conditions according to a 2×2 cross-over design. The body-oriented therapy included the exercises from yoga and breathing techniques. To assess the executive functions and attention in children we used 5 subtests from NEPSY (Tower, Auditory Attention and Response Set, Visual Attention, Statue, Design Fluency). Speech disorders have been examined in the article. Types of speech disorders as well as causes of its emergence from the neuropsychological, speech therapy, pedagogical and psychological points of view, have been studied through theoretical analysis. Nonverbal approach to speech disorders correction has been proposed - body-oriented therapy. Methods of body-oriented therapy have been examined and described. Reich’s body-oriented psychotherapy, that helps to remove blocks from the oral segment, release the jaw, throat and neck clips, as well as F.M. Alexander’s integral movement method, owing to which psychotherapist had cured himself of aphasia, have been presented. Body-oriented methods of massage therapy, articulation and deep face massage, combination of nonverbal and verbal methods via speech synchronization with body movements – fingers of dominant arm have been studied. Techniques of the proposed methods of body-oriented therapy have been described.

Many arguments have been made in the literature for why research is considered important for health practitioners. One of the most important has to do with continuing growth of practitioners and guarding against falling into practices that are based only on personal opinion. While most body psychotherapists would endorse the idea that research can affect and inform practice, many would also admit that they do not regularly read quantitative or evidence-based research studies, the type of research that can be generalized to their own clients. Feeling comfortable with and using suitable criteria for reading quantitative research articles and reports is often experienced as difficult. It requires the use of concepts and information that may not be employed in everyday clinical practice settings. Reviewing that content and its associated skills can help to make it more available, so that one may adequately critique and get more out of one's professional reading and ultimately, provide better service to clients. To that end, in this paper three related areas central to understanding quantitative research are reviewed: (a) the logic of research design; (b) how internal and external validity are judged; and (c) the basics of statistical inference. Eating disorder behaviours can be seen as self-destructive behaviours to a great extent related to inhibited anger expression. However, a treatment protocol targeted at anger and aggression in these disorders is lacking. This paper describes a psychomotor therapy (PMT) model as a body-oriented method to help patients with eating disorders to cope with anger and aggression. They learn to see aggression as a positive, relational, body-felt experience, and to control anger expression at the right time with appropriate intensity. Our clinical experience indicates that PMT can accelerate the overall treatment process by triggering hidden feelings and thoughts and by developing expression skills. This article discusses PMT principles of aggression regulation and the methodological procedures of the intervention. Randomised controlled research is needed to validate clinical experiences. It is important to develop the trainings to overcome this deficit in children with ADD. Objectives: The goal of this study was to reveal effect of bodyoriented therapy on executive abilities in ADD children. We compared the efficacy of two methods of treatment (body-oriented therapy for children vs. conventional motor exercises) in a randomized controlled pilot study. Methods: 15 children with ADD between 6 to 7 years of age were included and randomly assigned to treatment conditions according to a 2x2 cross-over design. The body-oriented therapy included the exercises from yoga and breathing techniques. To assess the executive functions and attention in children we used 4 subtests from NEPSY (Tower, Auditory Attention and Response Set, Visual Attention, Statue). Effects of treatment were analyzed by means of an ANOVA for repeated measurements. Results: The ANOVA has revealed (p<.05) that for all 4 subtests on executive functions and attention the body-oriented therapy was superior to the conventional motor training, with effect sizes in the medium-to-high range (0.44-0.83). Conclusions: The findings from this pilot study suggest that bodyoriented therapy can effectively influence the executive abilities in children with attention deficit disorder. However, it is necessary to do further research for revealing the impact of body-oriented therapies on the prevention and treatment of ADD in children.
