Purpose: To evaluate four decontamination strategies utilizing enzymatic agents available in most clinical settings to determine (1) the amount of biomaterial that can be removed in a group of previously used healing abutments (uHAs) and (2) the degree to which the decontaminated HAs are capable of inducing an inflammatory response in vitro compared to new HAs. Materials and Methods: In total, 50 HAs were collected following 2 to 4 weeks of intraoral use and distributed randomly into five test groups (groups A-E; n = 10 per group). Group A used enzymatic cleaner foam and an autoclave. Group B used an ultrasonic bath with enzymatic cleaner and an autoclave. Group C used a prophy jet, enzymatic cleaner foam, and an autoclave. Group D used a prophy jet, an ultrasonic bath with enzymatic cleaner, and an autoclave. Lastly, group E used a prophy jet and an autoclave. The control group consisted of 10 new and sterile HAs. Residual protein concentration was determined by a Micro BCA protein assay (Thermo Fisher Scientific), while HAs from each group were stained with Phloxine B and macroscopically examined for the presence of debris. To examine the inflammatory potential, human primary macrophages were exposed to HAs, and supernatant levels of nine cytokine and chemokine profiles were analyzed using a multiplex bead assay. Results: All test groups showed differences in the degree of visual decontamination compared to controls. Groups D and E displayed the most effective surface debris removal and reduced protein concentration, while group A was the least effective. However, compared to controls, all test groups showed high levels of inflammatory cytokine secretion via multiplex assay for up to 5 days. Conclusions: Our study found that decontamination of uHAs utilizing enzymatic cleaners failed to reestablish inert HA surfaces and prevent an inflammatory immune response in vitro. Background: Autologous tissues such as buccal mucosa (BM) are widely used for reconstruction of urethral strictures; however, limitations such as donor site morbidity and scarce tissue supply require the development of alternative biomaterials for urethral repair. The goals of this study were to determine the safety and efficacy of bi-layer silk fibroin (BLSF) matrices for urethral stricture repair and compare histological and functional outcomes to the standard approach, BM urethroplasty under good laboratory practices.Material and methods: A total of 13 rabbits exhibiting urethral stricture formation following electrocoagulation injury were treated with onlay urethroplasty with either acellular BLSF (N = 7) or autologous BM (N = 6) grafts for 3 months. Uninjured control rabbits were maintained in parallel (N = 4).Results and conclusion: Animals receiving BLSF implants were demonstrated to be functionally equivalent to BM grafts in their ability to restored strictured calibers, support micturition and promote tissue regeneration with minimal inflammation.

The objective of this preclinical study was to evaluate the feasibility and safety of transcatheter endocardial alginate hydrogel injection (TEAi) in a large animal model, utilizing the high-stiffness XDROP® alginate hydrogel in combination with the dedicated EndoWings® catheter-based system. All swine (n = 9) successfully underwent TEAi without complications. Acute results from a subset of animals (n = 5) demonstrated the ability of the catheter to access a wide range of endomyocardial areas and achieve consecutive circumferential hydrogel distribution patterns within the mid-left ventricular wall. Histological examinations at 6 months (n = 4) demonstrated that the XDROP® remained localized within the cardiac tissue. In addition, serial echocardiographic imaging showed that XDROP® had no adverse impacts on LV systolic and diastolic functions. In conclusion, this innovative combination technology has the potential to overcome the translational barriers related to alginate hydrogel delivery to the myocardium.

While oropharyngeal cancer treatment regimens, including surgical resection, irradiation, and chemotherapy, are effective at removing tumors, they lead to muscle atrophy, denervation, and fibrosis, contributing to the pathogenesis of oropharyngeal dysphagia - difficulty swallowing. Current standard of care of rehabilitative tongue strengthening and swallowing exercises is ineffective. Here, we evaluate an alternative approach utilizing an acellular and injectable biomaterial to preserve muscle content and reduce fibrosis of the tongue after injury. Skeletal muscle extracellular matrix (SKM) hydrogel is fabricated from decellularized porcine skeletal muscle tissue. A partial glossectomy injury in the rat is used to induce tongue fibrosis, and SKM hydrogels along with saline controls are injected into the site of scarring two weeks after injury. Tissues are harvested at 3 and 7 days post-injection for gene expression and immunohistochemical analyses, and at 4 weeks post-injection to evaluate histomorphological properties. SKM hydrogel reduces scar formation and improves muscle regeneration at the site of injury compared to saline. SKM additionally modulates the immune response towards an anti-inflammatory phenotype. This study demonstrates the immunomodulatory and tissue-regenerative capacity of an acellular and minimally invasive ECM hydrogel in a rodent model of tongue injury.

Purpose: To evaluate the influence of initial implant protrusion within the subantral space on hard tissue gain for implants placed simultaneously with transcrestal sinus floor elevation (TSFE) with a biomaterial. Materials and Methods: A total of 50 implants were placed after TSFE in 44 patients using either a human demineralized bone matrix or a deproteinized bone mineral matrix. Intraoral radiographs were obtained before and immediately after surgery. CBCT scans were obtained at the last follow-up (mean: 6.6 years). Results: The initial bone crest height was 4.6 ± 1.4 mm, and the initial protrusion of the implants above the sinus floor was 3.5 ± 1.4 mm. At the follow-up assessments, the hard tissue mean gain was 2.5 ± 1.5 mm, resulting in a mean residual protrusion of 1.1 ± 1.3 mm. Only 10 implants did not protrude above the apical level of hard tissue. Positive correlations were found between hard tissue gain and initial protrusion (r = 0.55; 95% CI: 0.32 to 0.72; P = .0001), between the initial and final protrusions (r = 0.38; 95% CI: 0.10 to 0.60; P = .007), and between the follow-up period and final protrusion (r = 0.35; 95% CI: 0.07 to 0.58; P = .012). Conclusions: The higher the initial protrusion was, the higher were the hard tissue gain and the final protrusion of the implant above the apical level of the hard tissue. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BackgroundAutologous tissues derived from bowel, buccal mucosa and skin are primarily used to repair or replace diseased vaginal segments as well as create neovaginas for male-to-female transgenders. These grafts are often limited by scarce tissue supply, donor site morbidity and post-operative complications. Bi-layer silk fibroin (BLSF) biomaterials represent potential alternatives for vaginoplasty given their structural strength and elasticity, low immunogenicity, and processing flexibility. The goals of the current study were to assess the potential of acellular BLSF scaffolds for vaginal tissue regeneration in respect to conventional small intestinal submucosal (SIS) matrices in a rat model of vaginoplasty.MethodsInlay vaginoplasty was performed with BLSF and SIS scaffolds (N = 21 per graft) in adult female rats for up to 2 months of implantation. Nonsurgical controls (N = 4) were investigated in parallel. Outcome analyses included histologic, immunohistochemical and histomorphometric evaluations of wound healing patterns; µ-computed tomography (CT) of vaginal continuity; and breeding assessments.ResultsAnimals in both scaffold cohorts exhibited 100% survival rates with no severe post-operative complications. At 2 months post-op, µ-CT analysis revealed normal vaginal anatomy and continuity in both graft groups similar to controls. In parallel, BLSF and SIS grafts also induced comparable constructive remodeling patterns and were histologically equivalent in their ability to support formation of vascularized vaginal neotissues with native tissue architecture, however with significantly less smooth muscle content. Vaginal tissues reconstructed with both implants were capable of supporting copulation, pregnancy and similar amounts of live births.ConclusionsBLSF biomaterials represent potential "off-the-shelf" candidates for vaginoplasty.

The zinc doped calcium phosphate biomaterials have recently attracted much attention. In this study, we have investigated the bioactivity, cytotoxicity and antibacterial activity of zinc doped calcium phosphate-sulfate hydroxyapatites Ca 9-x Zn x Na(PO 4) 5 (SO 4)(OH) 2 (x = 0, 0.2, 0.5). The samples have been synthesized by the solid-state reaction at high temperature and then have been characterized using X-ray diffraction, Infrared spectroscopy and Raman scattering spectroscopy. The surface analysis was conducted by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) in combination with energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDX) and Zeta-potential measurements. The bioactivity investigation involved immersing the samples in a simulated body fluid (SBF), providing valuable insights into the samples capability to stimulate the formation of an apatite layer similar to that found in bones. The antibacterial activity of the materials was studied using pathogenic bacteria. The assessment of sample cytotoxicity was involved using artemia salina as the experimental model. X-ray diffraction patterns reveal that the samples crystallize in the hexagonal system with the P 6 3 / m space group. The x = 0.2 material exhibited the best crystallinity and the highest negative Zeta potential, making it the most bioactive sample when immersed in simulated body fluid (SBF). SEM analysis confirmed that this sample effectively promotes the formation of a new apatite layer, highlighting its promising potential for biomedical applications. The results of the study highlight the significantly beneficial effect of doped hydroxyapatite (x = 0.2) on the biological properties, compared to the other samples analyzed in this study, thus underscoring the strong potential of this material for promising applications in the fields of bioengineering and tissue regeneration. Bone regeneration is a complex biological process that relies on the orchestrated interplay of various cellular and molecular events. Bone tissue engineering is currently the most promising method for treating bone regeneration. However, the immunogenicity, stable and cell quantity of seed cells limited their application. Recently, exosomes, which are small extracellular vesicles released by cells, have been found to effectively address these problems and better induce bone regeneration. Meanwhile, a growing line of research has shown the cargos of exosomes may provide effective therapeutic and biomarker tools for bone repair, including miRNA, lncRNA, and proteins. Moreover, engineered scaffolds loaded with exosomes can offer a cell-free bone repair strategy, addressing immunogenicity concerns and providing a more stable functional performance. Herein, we provide a comprehensive summary of the role played by scaffolds loaded with exosomes in bone regeneration, drawing on a systematic analysis of relevant literature available on PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar database. Spinal cord injury (SCI) results from various causes, including sports‐related incidents, degenerative cervical myelopathy, traffic accidents, and falls. SCI typically leads to sensory and motor dysfunction and even paralysis. Current treatments for SCI include systemic administration of high‐dose steroids and surgical decompression and stabilization. However, excessive use of glucocorticoids may increase susceptibility to infections and systemic bleeding. The long‐term effect of surgery intervention remains unclear, with ongoing debates regarding its timing, efficacy, and safety. Therefore, innovative approaches are urgently needed to alleviate secondary injuries and promote spinal recovery. One emerging therapeutic approach for SCI is modulating the microenvironments to achieve neuroprotection and neurogenesis during recovery. Several biomaterials with favorable physicochemical properties have been developed to enhance therapeutic effects by regulating microenvironments. This Review first discusses the pathology of SCI microenvironments and then introduces biomaterials‐based regulatory strategies targeting various microenvironmental components, including anti‐inflammation, anti‐oxidation, reduction of excitotoxicity, revascularization, neurogenesis, and scar density reduction. The study aimed to apply biosilica nanoparticles from renewable resources for improving soil quality as a type of fertilizer carier. The silica particles having a purity of about 98 % were extracted from rice husk at the calcination temperatures of 550 °C, 600 °C, 650 °C, and 700 °C. The required materials properties were investigated by advanced measurement techniques. All samples showed the amorphous structure with Si–O–Si bond and the particles' agglomeration with the average size of 10–50 nm and principle electronic structures with the typical spectra of Si and O 2. When the synthesized silica was used as the medium to release absorbed nutrients in a controlled manner, surface properties, including the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller area and the average pore diameter were evaluated between 179 m2/g to 570 m2/g, and 4 nm–40 nm, respectively. The measured electrokinetic potential of the synthesized particles was between −20 mV and −36 mV guaranteeing the stability when they are dispersed in the aqueous environment. This paper investigates the dissolution of two biopolymers, cellulose and silk fibroin, in a mixture of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate (EmimAc) and dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO). EmimAc is a promising environmentally friendly solvent currently in wide use but can be limited by its high viscosity, which inhibits the speed of dissolution. To mediate this, DMSO has been used as a cosolvent and has been shown to significantly lower the solution viscosity and aid mass transport. Dissolution experiments are carried out separately for both cellulose and silk fibrion with a range of EmimAc:DMSO ratios from 100 wt% EmimAc to 100 wt% DMSO. Interestingly, the optimal EmimAc:DMSO ratio (in terms of dissolution speed) is found to be very different for the two biopolymers. For cellulose, a mixture of 20 wt% EmimAc with 80 wt% DMSO is found to have the fastest dissolution speed, while for silk fibroin, a ratio of 80 wt% EmimAc with 20 wt% DMSO proves the fastest. These dissolution trials are complemented by rheological and nuclear magnetic resonance experiments to provide further insight into the underlying mechanisms. Finally, we produce hybrid biopolymer films from a solution to show how this work provides a foundation for future effective dissolution and the preparation of hybrid biopolymer films and hybrid biocomposites. Immunotherapy is a rapidly developing and effective strategy for cancer therapy. Among various immunotherapy approaches, peptides have garnered significant attention due to their potent immunomodulatory effects. In particular, melittin emerged as a promising candidate to enhance cancer immunotherapy by inducing immunogenic cell death, promoting the maturation of antigen-presenting cells, activating T cells, enhancing the infiltration and cytotoxicity of effector lymphocytes, and modulating macrophage phenotypes for relieving immunosuppression. However, the clinical application of melittin is limited by poor targeting and systemic toxicity. To overcome these challenges, melittin has been incorporated into biomaterials and related nanotechnologies, resulting in extended circulation time in vivo , improved targeting, reduced adverse effects, and enhanced anti-cancer immunological action. This review provides an in-depth analysis of the immunomodulatory effects of melittin-incorporated nanomedicines and examines their development and challenges for clinical cancer immunotherapy. [Display omitted] Monodisperse nanoparticles of biodegradable polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) polymers, copolymers of 3-hydroxybutyrate (3HB) and 4-hydroxybutyrate (4HB), are synthesized using a membrane-assisted emulsion encapsulation and evaporation process for biomedical resorbable adhesives. The precise control over the diameter of these PHA particles, ranging from 100 nm to 8 μm, is achieved by adjusting the diameter of emulsion or the PHA concentration. Mechanical properties of the particles can be tailored based on the 3HB to 4HB ratio and molecular weight, primarily influenced by the level of crystallinity. These monodisperse PHA particles in solution serve as adhesives for hydrogel systems, specifically those based on poly(N , N -dimethylacrylamide) (PDMA). Semi-crystalline PHA nanoparticles exhibit stronger adhesion energy than their amorphous counterparts. Due to their self-adhesiveness, adhesion energy increases even when those PHA nanoparticles form multilayers between hydrogels. Furthermore, as they degrade and are resorbed into the body, the PHA nanoparticles demonstrate efficacy in in vivo wound closure, underscoring their considerable impact on biomedical applications. One of the significant challenges of the twenty-first century will be feeding the growing world population while reducing the environmental impact and costs of agricultural production. In the case of extensive cropping, using mineral fertilizers or agrochemicals can contaminate the environment, decreasing the rivers and soil health and contributing to the emission of greenhouse gases. In this scenario, plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) or inoculants have emerged as an alternative for overcoming the need for agrochemicals. The PGPB has gained wide prominence as an alternative to enable more sustainable, low-cost, and high-yield agriculture. It can promote plant growth by producing ammonia, from atmospheric nitrogen, and phytohormones through symbiotic relationships. However, the inoculant industries face many challenges related to the biotic and abiotic stress in soil, which decreases the bacteria's survival, and its efficiency after inoculation. To enhance the effectiveness of microbial inoculants herein, we describe the encapsulation of A. brasilense FP2 (wild-type) into gum Arabic-based hydrogels (HG). A high population of encapsulated A. brasilense (107 CFU/g of dry hydrogel) could survive in the polymeric matrix for seven months. The effect on plant growth-promoting was evaluated on maize (Zea mays), which was the plant model. Compared with inoculation via furrow, the encapsulated PGPB enhanced root diameter and volume above 20%. In addition, it resulted in increments above 60% for root and shoot fresh weight compared to the uninoculated HG. Lignin is classified as the second most abundantly available biopolymer after cellulose and as a main aromatic resource material. Lignin structure differs based on sources of origin and species of biomass with around 15–40% of lignin content based on dry weight. It is extracted from various types of lignocellulosic biomass through different pulping extraction methods. After extraction, lignin can be further functionalized through different chemical reactions to meet the requirements and specifications before being used in end products. Therefore, in this review paper, the details on extraction and the type of lignin, as well as chemical functionalization, are discussed. The chemical functionalization can be used to modify the lignin such through phenolic depolymerization or by other aromatic compounds, creating novel chemical active sites to impact a reactivity of lignin and through functionalization of hydroxyl functional group for enhancing its reactivity. Furthermore, the recent sustainable application of lignin was discussed in different fields such as nanocomposite, flame retardant, antioxidant, cosmetic, natural binder and emulsifier. The study of the functional living organism through biological phenomena and their piezoelectric and electromagnetic interaction of particles and energy in the functional cells of organ systems that sustain life through homeostasis, and their relationship with the external environment, can be observed as a unique effect called the biopiezoelectromagnetic effect. Research in sciences, combined with the use of innovative technological tools and instruments at scales ranging from the subatomic to the astrophysical, have made it possible to observe, through these individual or combined effects, a phenomenon that is repeated in all structures: the conservation of elemental information. This approach makes it possible to research from the particle to the functional living organism in its environment and vice versa. It is possible to propose theories that link energy, particles and cells and their organised structural complexes within the same framework, analysing the biopiezoelectromagnetic effect and the constant effort to maintain the homeostasis of living organisms in an entropic environment. Biomaterials composed of crystals and quasicrystals promote the piezoelectric effect in living tissue-biomaterial contact. The piezoelectric effect is already known to stimulate and form a fibrocartilaginous bone callus and its subsequent hardening into mature bone but has never been directly associated with homeostasis, osseointegrated implants and biomaterial bonding. The synthesis described by evidence-based experiments over the past centuries is robust to describe the biopiezoelectromagnetic effect as a cascade of events in the functional living organism to maintain homeostasis and its binding properties as the basis of osseointegration and the foundation of biocompatibility. This study explored the transcriptional behaviors of several candidate genes in response to the application of CSNPs (50 and 100 mgl−1) in maize seedlings grown under two salinity levels (NaCl of 0.07 and 0.14 gkg−1soil). Employing CSNPs at both concentrations mitigated the inhibitory role of salinity on the leaf and root fresh weights. The application of CSNPs enhanced the transcription of the E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase gene by an average of threefold, contrasted with the salinity controls. The Δ1-pyrroline-5-carboxylate synthetase (P5CS1) gene was upregulated in response to both individual and mixed treatments of CSNPs and salinity. The transcription of the high-affinity K+ transporter (HKT1) gene displayed an upward trend in response to the CSNPs and salinity treatments. The Na+/H+ exchangers (NHX1) gene exhibited a similar trend to that of the HKT1 gene. The utilization of CSNPs was accompanied by an upregulation in the plasma membrane proteolipid 3 (PMP3) gene, contrasted with the salinity controls. The phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) activity displayed an upward trend in response to the foliar application of CSNPs. The CSNPs at the 100 mgl−1 concentration were more capable of inducing the ascorbate peroxidase enzyme under both salinity conditions than the 50 mgl−1 dose. The simultaneous exposure of maize seedlings to CSNPs and salinity resulted in the drastic upregulation of the catalase activities. This study provides novel insights into the major mechanisms underlying the stress-mitigating effects of CSNPs, thereby providing a suitable platform for their application in sustainable agricultural practices. Background: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a severe traumatic spinal condition with a poor prognosis. In this study, a scaffold called linearly ordered collagen aggregates (LOCAS) was created and loaded with induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs)-derived neural stem cells (NSCs) from human umbilical cord blood derived mesenchymal stem cells (hUCB-MSCs) to treat SCI in a rat model. Methods: The rats underwent a complete transection SCI resulting in a 3-mm break at either the T9 or T10 level of the spinal cord. Results: Scanning electron microscope analysis revealed a uniform pore structure on the coronal plane of the scaffold. The LOCAS had a porosity of 88.52% and a water absorption of 1161.67%. Its compressive modulus and stress were measured at 4.1 MPa and 205 kPa, respectively, with a degradation time of 10 weeks. After 12 weeks, rats in the LOCAS-iPSCs-NSCs group exhibited significantly higher BBB scores (8.6) compared to the LOCAS-iPSCs-NSCs group (5.6) and the Model group (4.2). The CatWalk analysis showed improved motion trajectory, regularity index (RI), and swing speed in the LOCAS-iPSCs-NSCs group compared to the other groups. Motor evoked potentials latency was lower and amplitude was higher in the LOCAS-iPSCs-NSCs group, indicating better neural function recovery. Histological analysis demonstrated enhanced neuronal differentiation of NSCs and nerve fiber regeneration promoted by LOCAS-iPSCs-NSCs, leading to improved motor function recovery in rats. The LOCAS scaffold facilitated ordered neurofilament extension and guided nerve regeneration. Conclusions: The combination of LOCAS and iPSCs-NSCs demonstrated a positive therapeutic impact on motor function recovery and tissue repair in rats with SCI. The most common technologies in tissue engineering include growth factor therapies; metal implants, such as titanium; 3D bioprinting; nanoimprinting for ceramic/polymer scaffolds; and cell therapies, such as mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Cell therapy is a promising alternative to organ grafts and transplants in the treatment of numerous musculoskeletal diseases. MSCs have increasingly been used in generative medicine due to their specialized self‐renewal, immunomodulation, multiplication, and differentiation properties. To further expand the potential of these cells in tissue repair, significant efforts are currently dedicated to the production of biomaterials with desirable short‐ and long‐term biophysical properties that can aid the differentiation and expansion of MSCs. Biomaterials support MSC differentiation by modulating their characteristics, such as composition, mechanical properties, porosity, and topography. Biological and mechanical mismatches between engineered scaffolds and native tissues poses widespread challenges for tissue restoration. Native‐like anisotropy is a critical characteristic for functional tissue replacements, yet it is an often‐overlooked aspect when designing new scaffolds. In this study, fiber‐reinforced tubular scaffolds are developed, mimicking the anisotropic characteristics of natural tissues, using native‐like silk fibroin. To predict the mechanical behavior of these innovative scaffolds, a mathematical model is employed, utilizing the properties of the scaffolds’ constituent materials, and experimentally validated through tensile testing. This approach addresses significant challenges in the design of new scaffold implants by enabling to efficiently predict the performance of several configurations, narrowing down the experimental research space. BACKGROUND: At present, the treatment of infected bone defects has the problems of long course of disease, poor treatment effect and high cost. The osteogenic effect of personalized bone replacement materials in clinical treatment is limited. Therefore, a 3D-printed bone graft material with both good osteogenic effect and antibacterial effect is urgently needed for clinical treatment. OBJECTIVE: To summarize the research status of 3D-printed scaffolds loaded with antimicrobial agents for the treatment of infected bone defects. METHODS: PubMed, Web of Science, Elsevier, and CNKI databases from January 2010 to June 2022 were searched for related articles. The Chinese search terms were “bone defect, 3D printing, scaffold material, antibacterial, animal experiments, in vitro experiments”. English search terms were “bone defect, 3D printing, scaffold, antibiosis, animal experiment, in vitro”. Finally, 60 articles were included for review and analysis. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The 3D scaffolds made of titanium, magnesium, tantalum and other metals and their alloys have certain osteogenic properties, but do not have antibacterial function. Hydroxyapatite and other bioceramic materials have good biocompatibility and are prone to be degraded, whereas due to the lack of strength, they are usually combined with artificial polymer materials to form composite materials, which respectively mimic the inorganic and organic components in natural bone, and play their respective excellent functions. Antibiotics, silver/copper nanoparticles, antimicrobial peptides, gallium and other antibacterial agents play an antibacterial role by destroying bacterial cell membrane, producing reactive oxygen species to interfere with bacterial DNA replication, inhibiting iron absorption and other mechanisms. As a result, the 3D-printed scaffold has both antibacterial and osteogenic effects. However, there are still some problems such as drug resistance and difficult to control effective concentrations. 3D-printed scaffolds are often loaded with antibacterial agents by loading drug-loaded microspheres on scaffolds, preparing antibacterial coating on the scaffold surface, and participating in joint 3D printing with drugs. The loading mode of antibacterial coating prepared on the scaffold surface is the most widely used, and its antibacterial effect is more stable. Nonetheless, the selection of the most suitable loading mode for antibacterial agents needs to be further discussed and summarized. It is a future research prospect to optimize the mechanical properties of composite scaffolds and prepare biomimetic bone scaffolds so that the degradation rate is consistent with the bone reconstruction rate in infected bone defects. The ideal antibacterial agents may play a role through a variety of antibacterial mechanisms, thus being expected to play a good antibacterial effect through low antibacterial concentration, which should be a hot spot of anti-bone infection research. After loading antibacterial agents on the surface of the scaffold, antibacterial agents can “intelligently” react to the local microenvironment, achieving controlled release, and regulating the osteogenesis, vascularization and immune response of the microenvironment, which is the focus of current research. Bioassembly encompasses various techniques such as bioprinting, microfluidics, organoids, and self-assembly, enabling advances in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Advancements in bioassembly technologies have enabled the precise arrangement and integration of various cell types to more closely mimic the complexity functionality of the neurovascular unit (NVU) and that of other biodiverse multicellular tissue structures. In this context, bioprinting offers the ability to deposit cells in a spatially controlled manner, facilitating the construction of interconnected networks. Scaffold-based assembly strategies provide structural support and guidance cues for cell growth, enabling the formation of complex bio-constructs. Self-assembly approaches utilize the inherent properties of cells to drive the spontaneous organization and interaction of neuronal and vascular components. However, recreating the intricate microarchitecture and functional characteristics of a tissue/organ poses additional challenges. Advancements in bioassembly techniques and materials hold great promise for addressing these challenges. The further refinement of bioprinting technologies, such as improved resolution and the incorporation of multiple cell types, can enhance the accuracy and complexity of the biological constructs; however, developing bioinks that support the growth of cells, viability, and functionality while maintaining compatibility with the bioassembly process remains an unmet need in the field, and further advancements in the design of bioactive and biodegradable scaffolds will aid in controlling cell adhesion, differentiation, and vascularization within the engineered tissue. Additionally, integrating advanced imaging and analytical techniques can provide real-time monitoring and characterization of bioassembly, aiding in quality control and optimization. While challenges remain, ongoing research and technological advancements propel the field forward, paving the way for transformative developments in neurovascular research and tissue engineering. Magnesium and its alloys, valued for their lightweight and durable characteristics, have garnered increasing attention for biomedical applications due to their exceptional biocompatibility and biodegradability. This work introduces a comparison of advanced and basic methods—laser texturing and sandblasting—on magnesium surfaces to enhance bioactivity for biomedical applications. Employing a comprehensive analysis spanning surface morphology, hardness, wettability, tribological performance, and corrosion behavior, this study elucidates the intricate relationship between varied surface treatments and magnesium's performance. Findings reveal that both laser texturing and sandblasting induce grain refinement. Notably, sandblasting, particularly with a duration of 2 s, demonstrates superior wear resistance and reduced corrosion rates compared to untreated magnesium, thereby emerging as a promising approach for enhancing magnesium bioactivity in biomedical contexts. Folate (FT) is a suitable targeting ligand for folate receptors (FOLR) overexpressed on inflamed cells. Thus, FT‐loaded polymers can be used as FOLRs‐targeted immunotherapy to positively modulate the inflammatory process. A novel biodegradable imprinted polymer with a FT delivery mechanism driven by pH changes [PCL‐MIP@FT] is designed with molecularly imprinted technology. The pH mechanism is validated in vitro, demonstrating that an acidic environment accelerated and increased the release of FT for a period of 7 days (∼100 µg mL−1). For the first time, FT receptors (FOLR‐1 and FOLR‐3) are discovered and also overexpressed on activated human gingival fibroblasts, representing a favorable target in the oral environment. Although FT itself does not have antimicrobial effects, the nanomechanical properties of biofilm are changed after topical FT administration. In vivo systemic toxicity of PCL‐MIP@FT has been demonstrated to be a safe biomaterial (up to 1.3 mg kg−1). When the PCL‐MIP@FT is assessed in the subcutaneous tissue, it promoted an alleviating inflammation and may be able to stimulate tissue repair. The present findings have demonstrated the reliable in vitro and in vivo anti‐inflammatory actions of FT‐loaded polymer and support its use as a novel drug‐free therapeutic platform for modulating and mitigating inflammatory responses in dental implant‐related infections. Fracture non‐union occurs due to various factors, leading to the development of potentially substantial bone defects. While autograft and allograft are the current gold standards for non‐union fractures, challenges related to availability and immune rejection highlight the need for improved treatments. A strategy in bone tissue engineering is to harness growth factors to induce an effect on cells to change their phenotype, behavior and initiate signaling pathways which lead to increased matrix deposition and tissue formation. Bone morphogenetic protein‐2 (BMP‐2) is a potent osteogenic growth factor however, given its rapid clearance time in vivo, there is a specific therapeutic window for efficacy while avoiding potential deleterious side‐effects. Cracked and deteriorated asphalt are common problems on our roads, leading to safety concerns and requiring significant resources for rehabilitation and reconstruction. This study investigates bio-fog seals, a promising eco-friendly solution utilizing bio-based rejuvenators. These treatments penetrate aged asphalt, restoring its flexibility and resistance to cracking. We assessed the effectiveness of two bio-fog seal formulations—one containing sub-epoxidized soybean oil (SESO) and the other combining SESO with a biopolymer (BioMag). Applied to real pavement sections, the research evaluated how these bio-seals impacted key performance factors, such as stiffness, permeability, and drying time, and safety factors, including skid resistance and pavement marking visibility. The results indicate the bio-seals did not compromise skid resistance and the reflectivity of the markings, eliminating the need for repainting stripes. Additionally, they successfully reduced pavement stiffness, making the asphalt more flexible and crack-resistant. Remarkably, with rapid setting times, under 30 min, these treatments minimize traffic disruption and do not require a blotter material. Craniofacial bone defects result from various disorders such as trauma, congenital malformations and infections. Cleft lip and palate are the most prevalent congenital craniofacial birth defect in humans. Growth factors (GFs) are soluble proteins secreted by cells that regulate various cellular processes and tissue regeneration. At present, developing three-dimensional scaffolds for delivering GFs to the site of injury has become an important aspect in craniofacial bone regeneration. This study aims to develop a novel 3D bone substitute using lyophilized-platelet-rich fibrin (LyPRF) biocomposite scaffolds for potential application for CLP repair. Collagen (C), bioglass (BG), and LyPRF were used to fabricate a biocomposite (C-BG-LyPRF) scaffold. The physical, chemical, and biocompatibility properties of the scaffold were evaluated. The C-BG-LyPRF scaffold demonstrated a mean pore diameter of 146 µm within a porosity of 87.26%. The FTIR spectra verified the presence of am-ide I, II, and III functional groups. The inorganic phase of the C-BG-LyPRF scaffold was composed of sodium, calcium, silicon, and phosphorus, as determined by EDX analysis. Furthermore, C-BG-LyPRF scaffold was biocompatible with MC3T3-E1 cells in both the Live/Dead and prolif-eration assays. Data demonstrate the developed C-BG-LyPRF scaffold exhibits biomimetic and biocompatibility properties, establishing it as a promising biomaterial for craniofacial regeneration. Background: Treatment of articular cartilage injury remains a challenging clinical problem in orthopedics. Chitosan-derived biomaterial could be a potential adjuvant treatment to improve cartilage repair. In the current study, we examined the effects of two potential chitosan-derived materials on cartilage regeneration of osteochondral defects in rabbits. Methods: An osteochondral defect was created over the rabbit knee and treated using three approaches: group A received no material (n = 24), group B received chitosan membranes with glucose absorption (CGA; n = 25), and group C received chitosan-glucose derivative membranes obtained via the Maillard reaction (CGMR; n = 25). Cartilage repair over the osteochondral defect was analyzed 12 weeks post-surgery via histological analysis, immunostaining, and reverse transcription-qualitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) for type-I and type-II collagen mRNA. Results: According to histological analysis, CGMR-treated defects showed significantly improved modified O'Driscoll scoring when compared with no material- and CGA-treated defects (20.9 ± 4.3 vs. 13.00 ± 2.5 and 17.7 ± 4.6, p < 0.001). Moreover, group C exhibited higher intensity of type-II collagen immunohistochemical staining over the regenerated cartilage than groups A and B, along with increased expression of type-II collagen mRNA by RT-qPCR. With an increasing of dental problems for aging population, there is more needing for more effective treatments to enhance the quality of denture base. Natural powders have biocompatibility characteristics and considerable mechanical properties as well as being inexpensive and eco-friendly. Poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) is widely utilized in medical and dental field due to its high compatibility and ease of manufacturing. However, its mechanical properties are relatively weak. In current work, PMMA bio composites were reinforced with walnut shells powder of two particle sizes (25 and 150 μm) in various concentrations. Physical and mechanical properties of bio composites were investigated. SEM showed a dense and smooth bio composite morphology, indicating strong PMMA-reinforcement adhesion with no new phases. The results exhibited a considerable advancement in the mechanical properties values for all bio composite specimens as compared with neat PMMA. Specimens that strengthened with fine size from walnut shells powder exhibited enhanced properties compared with those of the coarse size for the same material. For composites reinforced with fine particles (25μm), the maximum values for compression strength and hardness for samples strengthened with were 325.56 MPa and 86 shore-D respectively. In contrast, composites reinforced with coarse particle (150μm) of the same material had the maximum values of 306.409 MPa and 82.2 shore-D respectively. In light of the findings, it can be concluded that adding of fine particles of walnut shells powder to neat (PMMA) resin is one of the promising substances utilized to enhance the mechanical properties for denture bases more than coarse particles. Despite this, the damage that leather gives to the environment is increasing day by day with the rapidly developing technology and industrialization during processing. Along with this, ecological problems and pollution that threaten human health are emerging. Due to the increase in environmental pollution-related problems, environmental awareness has increased in recent years, sustainable and biodegradable materials have gained importance. In the 21st century, zero waste has been adopted as a life philosophy, increasing the importance of renewable and sustainable innovative materials. Fungi are among the most promising sources as biomaterials and have recently been used in product design. The goal of this research is to create healthy, economical, easily biodegradable, environmentally friendly innovative surfacee materials from Fomes fomentarius for the leather, textile, and ready-to-wear industries. In the investigation, the experimental study approach was applied. To gather F. fomentarius, fieldwork was conducted. Samples were brought to the laboratory and the identification process was carried out. Eight distinct experimental settings were established on four major frames for the examples, whose species was determined, and novel surface generation techniques were tested. Nanocellulose is considered a promising and sustainable biomaterial, with excellent properties of biorenewability with improved mechanical properties. As a unique natural biopolymer, it has been applied to many different industries, where efficient and environmentally friendly productions are in demand. For the first time, ferns from the class Polypodiopsida were used for the isolation of cellulose fibers, which was performed using a chemo-mechanical method. As chemical treatment plays a crucial role in the isolation of nanocellulose, it affects the efficiency of the extraction process, as well as the properties of the resulting nanocellulose. Therefore, mechanical fibrillation was performed via grinding, while the chemical process consisted of three different treatments: alkali treatment, bleaching, and acid hydrolysis. In three different experiments, each treatment was separately prolonged to investigate the differing properties of isolated nanocellulose. Structural analysis and morphological analysis were investigated by SEM, EDS, FT-IR, and DLS. The thermal stability of cellulose fibers was investigated by TGA/DSC. The morphology of obtained nanocellulose was confirmed via SEM analysis for all samples, with particles ranging from 20 nm up to 600 nm, while the most consistent sizes were observed for NC3, ranging from 20 to 60 nm. FT-IR spectra showed prominent absorption peaks corresponding to cellulose, as well as the absence of absorption peaks, corresponding to lignin and hemicellulose. The EDS confirmed the elemental purity of nanocellulose, while TGA/DSC indicated higher thermal stability of nanocellulose, compared to untreated fern, which started to degrade earlier than nanocellulose. Wound healing is a complex and precisely regulated process that encompasses multiple stages, including inflammation, anti-inflammation, and tissue repair. It involves various cells and signaling molecules, with macrophages demonstrating a significant degree of plasticity and playing a crucial regulatory role at different stages. In recent years, the use of biomaterials, which include both natural and synthetic polymers or macromolecules, has proliferated for the purpose of enhancing wound healing. This review summarizes how these diverse biomaterials promote wound healing by modulating macrophage behavior and examines the broader implications of these modulations. Additionally, we discuss the limitations associated with the clinical application of immunomodulatory biomaterials and propose potential solutions. Background: Skin injury affects the integrity of the skin structure and induces the wound healing process, which is defined by a well-coordinated series of cellular and molecular reactions that aim to recover or replace the injured tissue. Hydrogels are a group of promising biomaterials that are able to incorporate active ingredients for use as dressings. This study aimed to synthesize hydrogels with and without propolis extract and evaluate their physical characteristics and biological activities in vitro for potential use as active dressings in the treatment of skin lesions. Methods: The antifungal [Candida albicans (C. albicans) and Candida tropicalis (C. tropicalis)] and antibacterial [Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), Pseudomonas aeruginosas (P. aeruginosas) and Escherichia coli (E. coli)] activity was assessed by the microdilution method in plates and antioxidant potential by the reduction of the phosphomolybdate complex. Results: The hydrogels showed good water absorption capacity, high solubility, and high gel fraction, as well as good porosity, water retention, and vapor transmission rates. They revealed a totally amorphous structure. The extract and the hydrogels containing the propolis extract (1.0% and 2.5%) did not inhibit fungal growth. However, they showed antibacterial activity against strains of S. aureus and P. aeruginosas. Regarding the E. coli strain, only the extract inhibited its growth. It showed good antioxidant activity by the evaluation method used. Conclusions: Therefore, the hydrogels containing propolis extract can be a promising alternative with antibacterial and antioxidant action for use as dressings for the treatment of skin lesions. Bioengineered allogeneic cellularised constructs (BACC) exert pro‐healing effects in burn wounds and skew macrophage phenotype towards a predominately reparative phenotype. However, whether BACC can modulate the phenotype of dysregulated macrophages, like those present in burn wounds, is not known. To better understand the macrophage modulatory characteristics of the BACC, primary human macrophages were polarised to the M2b phenotype, an immunosuppressive phenotype relevant to burn wounds, by simultaneously exposing macrophages to polystyrene plate‐coated immunoglobulin G and the endotoxin lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The resulting macrophage phenotype upregulated both inflammatory and reparative genes, and increased secretion of the M2b marker CCL1 compared to five different in vitro macrophage phenotypes. M2b macrophages were cultured with the BACC in the presence or absence of LPS to mimic infection, which is a common occurrence in burn wounds. The BACC caused up‐regulation of reparative gene sets and down‐regulation of pro‐inflammatory gene sets, even when LPS was present in the cell culture media. Co‐cultures were maintained for 1, 3, or 5 days in the presence of LPS, and by day 1 both non‐activated macrophages and M2b macrophages exhibited signs of endotoxin tolerance, as demonstrated by a reduced secretion of tumour necrosis factor α (TNFα) in response to fresh LPS stimulus. The BACC was not able to prevent endotoxin tolerance, but reparative genes were upregulated in macrophages chronically exposed to LPS. This review delves into the fundamentals of hydrogels, exploring their definition, properties, and classification. Hydrogels, as three-dimensional networks of crosslinked polymers, possess tunable properties such as biocompatibility, mechanical strength, and hydrophilicity, making them ideal for medical applications. Uniquely, this article offers original insights into the application of hydrogels specifically for corneal tissue engineering, bridging a gap in current research. The review further examines the anatomical and functional complexities of the cornea, highlighting the challenges associated with corneal pathologies and the current reliance on donor corneas for transplantation. Considering the global shortage of donor corneas, this review discusses the potential of hydrogel-based materials in corneal tissue engineering. Emphasis is placed on the synthesis processes, including physical and chemical crosslinking, and the integration of bioactive molecules. Stimuli-responsive hydrogels, which react to environmental triggers, are identified as promising tools for drug delivery and tissue repair. Additionally, clinical applications of hydrogels in corneal pathologies are explored, showcasing their efficacy in various trials. Finally, the review addresses the challenges of regulatory approval and the need for further research to fully realize the potential of hydrogels in corneal tissue engineering, offering a promising outlook for future developments in this field. Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) represent a cutting-edge field in neuroengineering, facilitating direct communication between the brain and external devices. With applications ranging from the study of neuroscience to medical diagnosis and therapy, virtual reality, and cognitive augmentation, BCIs are at the forefront of technological advancement. Traditional rigid neural probes used in BCIs face challenges in maintaining long-term, stable recordings at the single-neuron level. Furthermore, achieving high electrode density while minimizing flexural rigidity remains a challenge with conventional rigid materials. In this perspective, we emphasize the importance of spatiotemporal scalability in the advancement of neural probes. We discuss the necessary material properties to achieve high spatiotemporal scalability, which is critical for long-term stability in neural recordings and for increasing electrode counts and density. We review recent developments in flexible and soft material systems, as well as fabrication strategies to meet these challenges. To improve the integrity of tendons, mitigating scar tissue formation by targeting the cellular activities that contribute to fibrosis during healing is crucial. Microparticles are a promising solution by delivering biofactors directly to the injury site. We synthesized poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) microspheres with Labrafil oil to control the release profile. The release of biofactors was initially delayed, followed by an increased release rate. Thus, by increasing the hydrophobicity of the polymer, Labrafil oil delays microsphere degradation and ultimately controls the release of an encapsulated factor. The substance principal used to synthesize these materials is fibroin, obtained from the silkworm's cocoon (Bombyx mori) in the form of a filament, but can be converted into nanometric particles. After the synthesis, the obtained samples were characterized by size and Zeta potential (via nanosizer), X-Ray diffraction (XRD), specific area determination by the BET method, Infrared Spectroscopy with Fourier Transform with attenuated diffuse reflectance (FTIR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The silk fibroin nanoparticles (SFNp) were immobilized on polylactic acid (PLA)-knitted fabric and functionalized with chitosan for FTIR and XRD analyses, in addition to cytotoxicity analysis with colorimetric test (MTT) and cell adhesion. The DLS, FTIR and MET results confirm the formation of spherical silk fibroin nanoparticles with average sizes between 48 and 156nm, and zeta potential of − 19.95mV which characterizes a good dispersibility. Cell-viability assessment showed that SFNp is a non-cytotoxic material at low concentrations up to 48h, confirming that the nanoparticle synthesis method using the ternary system is an effective and low-cost alternative. This technique has great potential for use in the development of biomaterials, due to the production of knitted tissues with PLA functionalized with chitosan and immobilized with SFNp, exhibiting mechanical strength and biocompatibility. The study addresses the challenge of temperature sensitivity in pristine gelatin hydrogels, widely used in biomedical applications due to their biocompatibility, low cost, and cell adhesion properties. Traditional gelatin hydrogels dissolve at physiological temperatures, limiting their utility. Here, we introduce a novel method for creating stable hydrogels at 37 °C using pristine gelatin through photopolymerization without requiring chemical modifications. This approach enhances consistency and simplifies production and functionalization of the gelatin with bioactive molecules. The stabilization mechanism involves the partial retention of the triple-helix structure of gelatin below 25 °C, which provides specific crosslinking sites. Upon activation by visible light, ruthenium (Ru) acts as a photosensitizer that generates sulphate radicals from sodium persulphate (SPS), inducing covalent bonding between tyrosine residues and "locking" the triple-helix conformation. The primary focus of this work is the characterization of the mechanical properties, swelling ratio, and biocompatibility of the photopolymerized gelatin hydrogels. Notably, these hydrogels supported better cell viability and elongation in normal human dermal fibroblasts (NHDFs) compared to GelMA, and similar performance was observed for human pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CMs). As a proof of concept for functionalization, gelatin was modified with selenous acid (GelSe), which demonstrated antioxidant and antimicrobial capacities, particularly against E. coli and S. aureus. These results suggest that pristine gelatin hydrogels, enhanced through this new photopolymerization method and functionalized with bioactive molecules, hold potential for advancing regenerative medicine and tissue engineering by providing robust, biocompatible scaffolds for cell culture and therapeutic applications. This review comprehensively explores the multifunctional applications of pectins derived from food waste and by-products, emphasizing their role as versatile biomaterials in the medical-related sectors. Pectins, known for their polyelectrolytic nature and ability to form hydrogels, influence the chemical composition, sensory properties, and overall acceptability of food and pharmaceutical products. The study presents an in-depth analysis of molecular parameters and structural features of pectins, such as the degree of esterification (DE), monosaccharide composition, galacturonic acid (GalA) content, and relative amounts of homogalacturonan (HG) and rhamnogalacturonan I (RG-I), which are critical for their technofunctional properties and biological activity. Emphasis is placed on pectins obtained from various waste sources, including fruits, vegetables, herbs, and nuts. This review comprehensively examines collagen from various sources, its extraction and processing methods, and its structural and functional properties. Preserving the native state of collagen is crucial for maintaining its beneficial characteristics. The challenges associated with chemically modifying collagen to tailor its properties for specific clinical needs are also addressed. The review discusses various collagen-based biomaterials, including solutions, hydrogels, powders, sponges, scaffolds, and thin films. These materials have broad applications in regenerative medicine, tissue engineering, drug delivery, and wound healing. Additionally, the review highlights current research trends related to collagen and its derivatives. These trends may significantly influence future developments, such as using collagen-based bioinks for 3D bioprinting or exploring new collagen nanoparticle preparation methods and drug delivery systems. Triboelectric nanogenerators, known as TENGs, offer great potential as versatile energy harvesting devices. In recent years, there has been a rise in TENG designs that prioritize compatibility with sustainable biomaterials, leading to new possibilities in green technology. The novelty of this work lies in its pioneering exploration of utilizing sustainable biomaterials, particularly coconut husk, within the field of Tribo-electric nanogenerators (TENGs). This study focuses on evaluating and characterizing coconut husk as TENG material considering factors such as rotational speed, vane count, and coarseness, all of which influence the output potential of the B-TENG. The BTENG model employed in this research operates on a rotational sliding mode, featuring a biobased material layer of coconut husk, a layer of PTFE, and copper as electrodes. The B-TENG has a diameter of 100 mm with varying vane configurations (3-vane, 4-vane, and 5-vane). The sliding mode demonstrated impressive versatility, yielding output voltages spanning from 0.73 V to 4.0 V across rotational speeds of 200 RPM to 1400 RPM. Remarkably, the 5-vane fine-grained coconut husks achieved a maximum power of 121.10 mW at 10 Ohm and a power density of 3.84 mW/cm². This research carries global significance, contributing to the advancement of energy harvesting technology. The high-throughput method based on the micron-level structure that 3D bioprinting technology offers for various environmental microbiological engineering applications is made possible by its several printing paths and precision programming control. This versatility makes it an on-demand manufacturing technology. A novel 3D manufacturing technique called 3D bioprinting may be used to precisely uptake and disperse bacteria to create microbial active substances with a variety of intricate functionalities for environmental applications. The technological challenges that the current 3D bioprinting technology must face include the mechanical properties of materials, the creation of specific bioinks to adapt to different strains, and the exploration of 4D bioprinting for intelligent applications. Therefore, this analysis delves deeply into the core technological ideas of 3D bioprinting, bioink materials, and their environmental applications. It also offers recommendations about the challenges and opportunities associated with 3D bioprinting. Combined with the present advancements in microbe enhancement technology, 3D bioprinting will provide an enabling platform for multifunctional microorganisms and facilitate the management of in situ directional responses in the environmental domain. The insect cuticle, which serves as both a protective barrier and an efficient lever system for locomotion, is an extracellular matrix primarily composed of chitin and protein. The cuticle protein CPCFC characterized by a “CFC” motif containing 2 Cys split by the insertion of 5 residues is distributed across most insect species and specifically localized in the hard part of the cuticle. However, their physiological function is not fully understood. Here, we report 2 CPCFC proteins, TcCPCFC1 and TcCPCFC2, derived from the Coleopteran insect Tribolium castaneum. We revealed that TcCPCFC1 and TcCPCFC2 were predominantly expressed during the larval and adult stages of T. castaneum, respectively. The transcription downregulation of TcCPCFC1 significantly decreased the modulus and toughness of the elytral cuticle. We found that TcCPCFC proteins have high binding affinity to chitin. We cloned and produced recombinant TcCPCFC proteins and demonstrated that the addition of TcCPCFC proteins to chitin hydrogel greatly enhanced the hydrogel's modulus and toughness by forming denser chitin fibrous networks. Our findings reveal the functional role of CPCFC proteins in enhancing mechanical properties of insect cuticle, and we validate this process in vitro, and offer a protein candidate for fabrication of advanced chitin‐based materials. Repairing or reconstructing significant bone defects is typically challenging. In the present study, two composite cements were used as scaffolds in a sub-critical femoral defect in rats. A control group and two experimental batches were used to compare the outcomes. This research aimed to investigate the osteogenic potential and toxicological tolerance of the bioproducts through histopathology and computed tomography imaging analysis at 14, 28, 56, and 90 days post-implantation. The biomaterials used in the investigation consisted of a 65% bioactive salinized inorganic filler and a 25% weight organic matrix. The organic part of the biomaterial was composed of Bis-GMA (bisphenol A-glycidyl methacrylate), UDMA (urethane dimethacrylate), HEMA (2-Hydroxyethyl methacrylate), and TEGDMA (triethylene glycol dimethacrylate), while the inorganic filler was composed of silica, barium glass, hydroxyapatite, and fluor aluminosilicate glass. The first findings of this research are encouraging, revealing that there is a slight difference between the groups treated with biomaterials, but it might be an effective approach for managing bone abnormalities. Material C1 exhibited a faster bone defect healing time compared to material C2, where bone fractures occurred in some individuals. It is unclear if the fractures were caused by the presence of the biomaterial C2 or whether additional variables were to blame. Studies aiming to understand the effects of storage on whole blood (WB) clotting often rely on characterizing coagulation under static conditions. Minimal work has explored the effects of physiologic shear on clot formation and thrombolysis utilizing fractionated and reconstituted whole blood (rWB) products. WB was fractionated into platelet‐free plasma, packed red blood cells, and platelets storing each component under its ideal conditions—including platelet cryopreservation. Recombination at their native ratios was accomplished over 91 days of storage and clotting/thrombolysis was analyzed utilizing thromboelastography and Chandler loop. rWB preserved clot strength through 91 days with minimal deviation from baseline, in contrast to WB stored at 4°C which experienced a significant decline by storage Day‐42. Clot formation under shear for both rWB and WB led to increased clot mass through storage. No significant deviation from baseline was appreciated until Day 70 of storage in rWB. Increasing degrees of thrombolysis were seen in both groups, with rWB significantly deviating from baseline at Day 70. No significant changes in overall clot architecture occurred throughout storage and recombination. This fractionation and recombination protocol serves as a method to further develop reproducible in vitro clot analogs for preclinical thrombolytic therapy screening. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The demand for novel tissue grafting and regenerative wound care biomaterials is growing as traditional options often fall short in biocompatibility, functional integration with human tissue, associated cost(s), and sustainability. Salmon aquaculture generates significant volumes of waste, offering a sustainable opportunity for biomaterial production, particularly in osteo-conduction/-induction, and de novo clinical/surgical bone regeneration. Henceforth, this study explores re-purposing salmon waste through a standardized pre-treatment process that minimizes the biological waste content, followed by a treatment stage to remove proteins, lipids, and other compounds, resulting in a mineral-rich substrate. Herein, we examined various methods—alkaline hydrolysis, calcination, and NaOH hydrolysis—to better identify and determine the most efficient and effective process for producing bio-functional nano-sized hydroxyapatite. Through comprehensive chemical, physical, and biological assessments, including Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction, we also optimized the extraction process. Our modified and innovative alkaline hydrolysis–calcination method yielded salmon-derived hydroxyapatite with a highly crystalline structure, an optimal Ca/P ratio, and excellent biocompatibility. The attractive nano-scale cellular/tissular properties and favorable molecular characteristics, particularly well-suited for bone repair, are comparable to or even surpass those of synthetic, human, bovine, and porcine hydroxyapatite, positioning it as a promising candidate for use in tissue engineering, wound healing, and regenerative medicine indications. With the increasing shortage of water resources and the aggravation of water pollution, solar-driven interfacial steam generation (SISG) technology has garnered considerable attention because of its low energy consumption, simple operation, and environmental friendliness. The popular multi-layer SISG evaporator is composed of two basic structures: a photothermal layer and a support layer. Herein, the support layer underlies the photothermal layer and carries out thermal management, supports the photothermal layer, and transports water to the evaporation interface to improve the stability of the evaporator. While most research focuses on the photothermal layer, the support layer is typically viewed as a supporting object for the photothermal layer. This review focuses on the support layer, which is relatively neglected in evaporator development. It summarizes existing progress in the field of multi-layer interface evaporators, based on various polymers and biomaterials, along with their advantages and disadvantages. Specifically, mainly polymer-based support layers are reviewed, including polymer foams, gels, and their corresponding functional materials, while biomaterial support layers, including natural plants, carbonized biomaterials, and other innovation biomaterials are not. Additionally, the corresponding structure design strategies for the support layer were also involved. It was found that the selection and optimal design of the substrate also played an important role in the efficient operation of the whole steam generation system. Their evolution and refinement are vital for advancing the sustainability and effectiveness of interfacial evaporation technology. The corresponding potential future research direction and application prospects of support layer materials are carefully presented to enable effective responses to global water challenges. Nevertheless, it is increasingly recognized that both the innate and adaptive immune offshoots need to be involved to motivate optimal antitumor immunity. Among them, the cyclic GMP-AMP synthase-stimulator of interferon genes (cGAS-STING) signaling pathway is vitally important for activating innate and adaptive antitumor immunity. Ongoing research related to the cGAS-STING signaling pathway mediated immunotherapies have testified their advantages in preventing cancer progression and achieving favorable clinical outcomes. In this review, we systematically elaborated the synopsis of the cGAS-STING signaling pathway as well as involved immunological effects in cancer immune cycle, and thoroughly overviewed the summary of chemical or engineering strategies to heighten the potential application of the cGAS-STING signaling pathway-related agonists. Meanwhile, the highlight advances of engineered biomaterials-mediated different strategies-guided the cGAS-STING signaling pathway activation for antitumor immunotherapy are summarized in detail.
