Phytophagous insects differ in their degree of specialization to their host plants. It ranges from monophagous or oligophagous species that can only develop on a single host plant, or family of host plants, to extremely polyphagous species that can develop on plants from many distinct botanical families. The aim of this study was to compare the larval performance and adult preference of a highly generalist species, the Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) and a highly specialist species, the breadfruit fruit fly (B. umbrosa) among several fruits covering both species' host range. (i) larval performance was tested on 16 fruit species, and (ii) a female preference was tested on a subset of five fruit species. In addition, (iii) a field survey was carried out on 11 fruit species. B. umbrosa infested only Artocarpus fruits in the field. Accordingly, B. umbrosa larvae survived and developed only on fruits belonging to the Artocarpus genus. Female B. umbrosa did not lay their eggs on non‐Artocarpus fruits, except Terminalia catappa. Female B. tryoni, on the other hand, made little selection between the fruits tested, and its larvae developed on 13 of the 16 fruit species tested. The larval performance of both species, adjusted when tested by female preference, predicted in large part the fruit infestation in the field. In the formation of helminth fauna, the formation of a high diversity of species, in the circulation of helminths between humans and ruminant domestic animals in nature and in their infection, in the completion of the development stages of biohelminths and their invasion and in the transfer of dangerous helminths from one area to another, their intermediate hosts have a great role. When determining the role of intermediate hosts in the spread of helminths of domestic carnivores, it was found that the intermediate hosts of 12 species of helminths are insects, 7 species are ruminants, 16 species are rodents, 5 species are reptiles and 3 species are earthworms. During the study, it was found that rodents were infected with cysticercoids of the mentioned helminths in 49.3%, reptiles with cysticercoids, procercoids and plerocercoids in 34.7%, snails in 24.7% and insects in 37.3%. Among the intermediate hosts, rodents prevail over other intermediate hosts with 16 species and infection rate of 49.3%. It comes from the ethology of rodents. The scientific-research work carried out in this direction has important theoretical and practical importance. This research aimed to develop science teaching materials based on marine aquaculture bioecology using floating net cage technology that is practical and effective in improving students' scientific literacy skills at Lombok coastal schools. This was development research based on the Thiagarajan 4D model, which consists of four stages: design, define, develop, and disseminate. The research subjects consisted of six junior high schools on the coast of Lombok, who were selected using the purposive sampling technique. The instrument used was a scientific literacy assessment of 16 reasoned multiple choice questions. Data were analyzed using normalized gain analysis. The results showed that science teaching materials based on marine aquaculture bioecology with floating net cage technology were effective in increasing the scientific literacy skills of students in the six sampled schools, obtaining an average N-gain value of 0.5 in the medium category. Against the background of climate change and scarce non-renewable resources, transforming the fossil-based toward a bio-based economy is considered crucial for sustainable development. Numerous countries have released governmental strategies outlining their bioeconomy visions. This study examines the bioeconomy visions presented in 78 policy documents from 50 countries worldwide, building on earlier vision typologies. Through qualitative content analysis, 227 distinct policy goals were identified and analyzed. Descriptive statistics were used to determine the salience of specific goals, overarching goal categories, and distinct bioeconomy visions: bioresource, biotechnology, and bioecology visions. The results reveal that goals and visions prioritize economic growth, while environmental considerations are less salient. The bioresource vision emerges as the globally dominant perspective, while the bioecology and biotechnology visions have lower salience. These findings deepen our comprehension of current bioeconomy policies and emphasize the need for critical research on bioeconomy visions and their implications for public policy. DNA barcoding and morphological characters together with thorough bioecological investigations to diagnose field bean pod borer, Adisura atkinsoni Moore, 1881 an important pest was carried out. A. atkinsoni has a limited host range. The incidence of Adisura was higher on local varieties (photo sensitive) compared to HA4 hybrid (photo-insensitive). The field bean pod borer appeared during middle of October and continue to March. The undefined taxa were identified using both female and male genitalia. But since they could be differentiated from their morphologically closest relative, they were marked as sensu lato. While doing BLAST analysis, the mitochondrial COI Sequence of Adisura specimens collected from Bengaluru showed similarity to A. bella. In the phylogenetic tree, these two samples Sp1 and Sp2 separate new sub-clade which stands separately from the rest of the Adisura species. It was identified that the lepidopteran samples collected from Bengaluru are Adisura and the DNA sequences did not match with any of the existing species of Adisura. Tuberose (Agave amica (Medikus) Thiede and Govaerts) is a hardy and economically important flower crop in India. Tuberose growers have been facing severe loss in flower yield due to the large-scale deformities and rotting of buds caused by midge fly attacks. Morphology and DNA barcoding have confirmed the identity of this midge species as Contarinia maculipennis Felt (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae). Maggot feeding causes deformation and rotting of the infested buds and imparts an ugly appearance to the tuberose florets. Midge fly infestation ranged from 5.67% to 88% from July to September 2022 in different tuberose-growing areas of Maharashtra, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in India. The bioecology of this midge species and the nature of damage to tuberose were studied to develop eco-friendly management methods. This study offers novel insights into the nature and extent of midge damage to tuberose and how midge symptoms differ from tuberose melody symptoms caused by the foliar nematode. Sengarat fish (Belodontichthys dinema, Bleeker 1851) is one of the most important freshwater fish. No research has been Relationship of weight length and condition Factors of Sengarat Fish in Kampar River waters. Sampling was conducted in March-October 2022 using gill net fishing gear and bubu in the Kampar watershed in the Buluh Nipis Village area, Siak Hulu District, Kampar Regency, Riau. Data analyzed using Ms Excel 2010 application from the results of fish growth pattern analysis (n = 16) showed a value = 0.0118 and b value = 2.7765, R2 of 0.976. Anomala lineatopennis (Blanchard) is a predominant white grub species in the north-western Himalayas and is a pest of temperate fruits. The adult beetles of this pest feed on the leaves as well as fruits of apple, pear, peach, nectarine and walnut, while the grubs feed on plant roots as well as potato tubers and ginger rhizomes. The pest is an early emerging species with peak emergence in May and June. The life cycle was completed in 284-314 days and hence single generation annually. The egg incubation period was 12.7 days and the duration of the first, second, and third instar grubs was 13.64, 13.14, and 221.90 days, respectively. The head capsule width ratio in the successive instar was 1.53 and 1.56 and the average size of the third instar grub was 34.77 mm. The pupal period ranged from 13-15 days. The female of A. lineatopennis was found to be a bit larger in size than the male. Average fecundity was recorded to be 19±0.90 eggs per female under confinement in laboratory conditions. The sphingid moth larvae are voracious defoliators of several crops. The present study was conducted to investigate damage of Acherontia styx on Jasmine, their seasonal incidence, and bioecology. Larval instars fed on jasmine leaves and flowers, with the highest defoliation being 35% and highest flower damage 47% during September. The lifecycle consisted of egg, five larval instars, pupal, and adult stages. The eggs were pearly white in colour and emerged larvae were cylindrical with a prominent anal horn. In subsequent moults the larvae continued to feed and become larger until they turned a reddish colour and ceased feeding prior to pupating in the soil. Adult moths were robust and swift fliers. The total life cycle from egg to adult was 56 days for males and 59 days for females. Trichogramma achaeae Nagaraja & Nagarkatti was noticed and documented as a potential egg parasitoid of the sphingid moth, a new record. A natural parasitization of eggs was noticed under field conditions, with changed colour of eggs to deep black from which a tiny parasitic wasp emerged, identified as T. achaea. The occurrence of leaf folder, Pycnarmon cribrata (Fabricius, 1794) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) on the medicinal plant nirgundi, Vitex negundo Linn. has been observed in West Bengal, India. The pest damaged the foliage by folding the leaflets, feeding within and ultimately making the foliage dry and papery. However, the identity of the pest species was confirmed through morphological characteristics of male and female genitalia as well as sequence amplified product of Cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene (GenBank No. ON545929). Biological studies revealed that the entire life cycle of the moth completed in 29.90 ± 2.42 days on average, while the range was between 25-34 days. The peak larval incidence was noticed in 16th SMW (Standard Meteorological Week) and 24th SMW with population of 12 and 15 larvae per plant during 2021 and 2022, respectively. The percent plant incidence levels ranged from 15 to 100% during the first year i.e. 2021 and 30 to 100% during the second year i.e. 2022. The correlation of mean larval population (r = −0.66) and percent plant incidence (r = −0.71) with weather parameters indicated a highly significant negative association with the maximum temperature and a significant positive correlation with maximum and minimum relative humidity. The parasitization of Choeras sp. (Braconidae: Hymenoptera) (GenBank No. OP293230) was observed on old age larvae of P. cribrata and the natural parasitization was recorded as 26% during the study period. This study provides a comprehensive information on the occurrence, nature of damage, biology, morphometry, seasonal incidence and natural enemy fauna associated with P. cribrata which will be helpful for implementation of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies to curtail the pest problem on V. negundo, a valuable medicinal plant. Stem borers (Lepidoptera) are common cereal pests. In many parts of the world, the species Ostrinia nubilalis and Sesamia nonagrioides stand out as important insect pests of economically important crops such as maize. Their management relied mainly on transgenic host plant resistance over the last 25 years. Technologies based on the insecticidal properties of Bacillus thuringiensis-derived proteins allowed widespread pest population suppression, especially for O. nubilalis. However, the recent discovery of Bt resistance, which has revitalized interest in both pests' biology and management, may jeopardize the effectiveness of such transgenic technologies. Historical information on O. nubilalis bionomy may need to be reassessed in light of changing climate conditions and changing agricultural practices, as well as increased production of alternate host crops across its distribution range. (Fabaceae) are: Appendiseta robiniae Gillette, Phyllonorycter robiniella Clemens, Parectopa robiniella Clemens, Nematus tibialis Newman and Obolodiplosis robiniae Haldemann, species from North America, where it also originates the acacia, which is the host plant. In Europe these species were introduced accidentally, being considered invasive species. In Europe, O. robiniae Haldemann was first reported in July 2003 in northeastern Italy, in Paese near Padua, from where it spread to almost the entire European continent, especially through trade in infested biological material from nurseries. The attack occurs in the species R. pseudoacacia L., R. viscosa L. and R. hispida L., mainly in urban areas, where it mainly affects their aesthetic value. The larvae develop characteristic leaf margin roll galls on the infested leaves. There are up to 6 galels on a leaflet, and on average there are up to 5-6 larvae. In Europe it develops two, three and, in optimal conditions, even four generations a year. Zoophagous entomofauna can cause population decline, especially parasitoid species. For Platygaster robiniae Buhl & Duso (Hymenoptera: Platygastridae) the percentage of parasites reported was up to 40%. A low percentage of parasitism can be produced by other species, such as: Aprostocetus sp., Chrysocharis sp. (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae), Eupelmus urozonus Dalman (Hymenoptera: Eupelmidae), Eurytoma verticillata F. (Hymenoptera: Eurytomidae), Mesopolobus mediterraneus Mayr. Mosquitoes are found worldwide; in Brazil, 530 species are distributed across all its biomes. Understanding of the biodiversity of the Caatinga biome remains incomplete, especially for Culicidae. We carried out a sampling of immature and adult mosquitoes in aquatic habitats and using Shannon traps in a seasonally dry tropical forest, in the semiarid of Rio Grande do Norte. A total of 1747 immatures of 13 species were collected during the study period (2017–2020) in groundwater sites, rock depressions, with and without vegetation, and tree holes. The maintenance of temporary breeding sites is related to the dry and rainy seasons. We collected 2132 adult mosquitoes of 12 species between 5 and 8 PM. Correlation analyses showed the effect of meteorological variables on Culicidae populations. Both immature and adult mosquitoes' abundance were significantly influenced by temperature and wind. The abundance of adult mosquitoes of the genera Aedes demonstrated a positive correlation with temperature, and a negative one with Mansonia and Uranotaenia. Our study adds information on the population dynamics of mosquitoes in the Brazilian semiarid, highlighting the bioecological relationships and breeding sites of species relevant to public health. Aerial dispersal can occur in response to both internal state of individuals and environmental conditions and probably contributed to the expansion of red palm mite Raoiella indica throughout the American continent within a decade. We report here experiments using wind tunnel in the laboratory and adhesive traps in the field to identify general aspects and precursors of R. indica's aerial dispersal. Wind tunnel analyses indicated that dispersal rates increased with increasing wind speed up to 15 m/s and decreased with increasing population density. Although adult male and immature were dispersed by wind, adult females showed the highest frequency of dispersal. Mating status and 24 h food deprivation had no significant influence on the aerial dispersal of this species. In the field, the dispersal was also mainly observed among adult females. The number of captured mites increased progressively with height, up to the highest assessed state (4.8 m), and up to a distance of 48 m from infested coconut palms, at which colonization rates were equivalent to 1.4 × 105 mites/plant, although it was lower at the distance of 64 m (farthest assessed distance) from the source. The results identify conditions that elicit R. indica's dispersal, and characterize its dispersal potential and colonization rates, allowing an ecological understanding of this invasive mite species. The alien brown seaweed Sargassum muticum (Yendo) Fensholt is currently observed along the coasts of Morocco. The present study aimed to evaluate the impact of physicochemical parameters on the distribution of S. muticum at four sites on the Atlantic coast of Morocco harvested between 2019 and 2020. This study showed that the highest biomass, thalli length, and fertility values were recorded in sampling sites characterized by optimal physicochemical (temperature, pH, and salinity) and nutrient H₃PO₄ during summer. The highest biomass values were recorded in August for Sidi Bouzid and Moulay Abdellah sites, conversely, in Saada and Jorf Lasfar sites the highest values were observed in February and March respectively. The thallus length was slightly larger in Moulay Abdellah site with 77.30 ± 14.09 cm compared with the three other sites during the summer/spring periods. Minimum thalli length was recorded in September for all studied sites. The thalli of S. muticum were fertile earlier in Sidi Bouzid and Saada during spring and peaked during the summer season for all studied sites showing a positive correlation with increasing temperature. Finally, the collected data shows that indeed physicochemical parameters influence bioecological parameters. The suitability of Eucalyptus to this pest varies among host plant genotypes. The objective of this study was to evaluate the development, reproduction, and survival of G. platensis on Eucalyptus species and hybrids to assess their suitability to this insect pest in Brazil. Methods. The survival, development, and reproduction parameters were evaluated with G. platensis feeding leaves of Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh., Eucalyptus grandis W. Hill., Eucalyptus urophylla S.T. Blake and on the hybrids of E. grandis xE. urophylla 'H13' and 'VR3748' in the laboratory. Methods. The survival, development, and reproduction parameters were evaluated with G. platensis feeding leaves of Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh., Eucalyptus grandis W. Hill., Eucalyptus urophylla S.T. Background Gonipterus platensis Marelli (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) is the main defoliating beetle of Eucalyptus L’Hér. (Myrtaceae) plants worldwide. The suitability of Eucalyptus to this pest varies among host plant genotypes. The objective of this study was to evaluate the development, reproduction, and survival of G. platensis on Eucalyptus species and hybrids to assess their suitability to this insect pest in Brazil. Methods The survival, development, and reproduction parameters were evaluated with G. platensis feeding leaves of Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh., Eucalyptus grandis W. Hill., Eucalyptus urophylla S.T. Blake and on the hybrids of E. grandis ×E. urophylla ‘H13’ and ‘VR3748’ in the laboratory. Results The duration of the larval stage of G. platensis was shorter on E. urophylla. The pupal stage and the period from larva to adult were equally shorter on E. urophylla and E. camaldulensis. The viability of instars of this insect was low on both E. grandis and E. camaldulensis. The complete lifespan, oviposition period and reproduction parameters of G. platensis were greater on E. urophylla, lower on E. camaldulensis and E. grandis, and intermediate on both hybrids tested. Synthesis Eucalyptus urophylla is the most suitable host for G. platensis survival, development, and reproduction, while E. grandis and E. camaldulensis are the least suitable.

Purpose: Transition to bioeconomy requires all actors and stakeholders to measure the impact of systems that use bioresources and technologies to provision society. There are however some challenges with integrating LCA into business development and management, which have important implications for bioeconomy. There have been many LCA studies published in the twenty-first century, but the question must be answered: how useful are these LCA studies to help understand and manage transition to sustainable bioeconomy? Method: This research used a structured literature review to identify 83 bioeconomy LCA studies published from January 2006 to June 2021 (excluding bioenergy). The studies were analysed for compliance with the ISO 14044 standard, with specific reference to the goal, commissioning perspective, system boundary, function and functional unit, impact methods and categories. Results and discussions: It was found that more than 85% of the studies reviewed failed to present the required goal statement and a description of the function of the system. Nearly 13% of the studies did not define the system boundary, and only 17% included a full life cycle including raw material extraction, production, use and end-of-life stages. The majority of the LCA studies surveyed from 2006 to 2021 were either (i) not in compliance with the ISO standards or (ii) space and style limitations of the publication process prevented competent practitioners from properly conveying their work. This suggests that the value and integrity of the literature are undermined by not rigorously addressing the first and most important stage of an LCA study. Conclusion: When interpreting the results, a major shortcoming noted was that most studies did not consider the industrial symbiosis needed between feedstock, technology, primary products, side streams, downstream valorisation and long-term circularity in order to properly understand the transition pathways required. Bioeconomy technologies were imagined as displacers for feedstocks and processes to adapt business as usual, rather than as transformers of the system to a sustainable footing. Recommendation: If LCA studies are going to provide meaningful information for actors and stakeholders to assess whether a system will be able to operate sustainably, studies should include a full, integrated system, standards should be adhered to and approaches should perhaps go beyond mere eco-efficiency, or doing less harm, as these are not necessarily indicative of sustainability. During a Gryllidae survey in the Southern Cameroonian Plateau, two new species of the tribe Turanogryllini Otte, 1987 were discovered and described, namely Turanogryllus zamakoensis Um Nyobe, Kekeunou & Bilong Bilong sp. nov. and Neogryllopsis gorochovi Um Nyobe, Kekeunou & Ma sp. nov. This finding extends the known distribution of the genera Turanogryllus Tarbinsky, 1940 and Neogryllopsis Otte, 1983. ABSTRACT Hypothenemus hampei is the main coffee pest in the Amazon and worldwide. Although coffee cultivation exists in the State of Amazonas, there is no information regarding the behavior of this species population in this region of Brazil. Since the Amazon region is a favorable environment for H. hampei, the present study aimed to investigate this insect population in the following cultivation systems implanted in the municipality of Humaitá, Southern Amazonas: i) coffee in native forest (CNF), ii) coffee intercropped with cupuaçu and açaí (native Brazilian fruits) (CCA) and iii) coffee in monoculture (MC). Also, the climatic and phenological parameters of the plant were used in relation with the population dynamics of the insect. For that, ten baited traps were installed in each field for the monthly sampling of the H. hampei population from July/2018 to June/2019. The highest population abundance of the insect was observed during the coffee flowering season, mainly in monoculture crops, when compared to the other intercropped fields. The total mean value of the insect population observed in the three environments evaluated was highest in August/2018, with a recorded value of 1749. The increase in rainfall indexes occurred simultaneously with a decrease in the insect population; this coincides with the end of the flowering season (October/2018, 161.8 mm) and the beginning of grain formation (November/2018, 234.8 mm). The lowest abundance of the insect observed in the coffee fields in native forest, with an abundance of 83 (CNF), indicates that the local biodiversity disfavors the population size of the pest in the environment. These results suggest that phenological phases of conilon coffee and the influence of climatic conditions can result in changes in the population dynamics of the H. hampei. Coffee agroforestry systems are more promising to maintain this population at low levels.

Abstract: This research has been conducted to develop a bioecology e-book based on research of the dragonfly community structure around the springs in Malang Raya. The type of research is research and development.The research used ADDIE development model includes stagesof analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate. Research data collection used the validation sheet of material expert, the validation sheet of learning expert and the practicality sheet. Product trials were conducted in the Deaprtment of Biology, State University of Malang with 28 students. The results of evaluation by material expert validator showed that the e-book was quite valid (76%), results by learning expert validator was very valid (98,5%) and field trials by students that e-book was very practical and could be used with e few revisions (88%). Abstrak: Penelitian ini telah dilakukan untuk mengembangkan e-book bioekologi capung berbasis penelitian struktur komunitas capung di area Sumber Mata Air Malang Raya. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dan pengembangan. Penelitian ini menggunakan model pengembangan ADDIE dengan tahap menganalisis, merancang, mengembangkan, mengimplementasi dan mengevaluasi. Pengumpulan data menggunakan lembar validasi ahli materi, lembar validasi ahli pembelajaran, dan lembar kepraktisan. Uji coba produk dilakukan di jurusan Biologi FMIPA Universitas Negeri Malang dengan 28 mahasiswa. Hasil penilaian oleh validator ahli pembelajaran menunjukkan e-book dinyatakan valid (98,5%), penilaian oleh ahli materi cukup valid (76%) dan uji coba di lapangan oleh mahasiswa menyatakan e-book sangat praktis dan dapat digunakan dengan sedikit revisi (88%).

The family Lycaenidae (Lepidoptera) comprises over 6,000 described and widely distributed species. However, studies on interactions with other insects such as ants, parasitoids, and with food plants in the Neotropical region, are still scarce, even though such information are fundamental for better understanding the natural history of this taxonomic group. This study reports a new food plant to larvae of Lycaenidae species in the neotropics, as well as its parasitoid. A Lycaenidae larva was found and collected for immature stage observation under laboratory conditions. The larva fed on petals and seeds of Zornia latifolia Sm. (Fabaceae). Nineteen days after pupation in laboratory a larvipupal parasitoid of the genus Conura (Chalcididae) had egressed. This is the first report of tritrophic relationship amongst Z. latifolia, a Lycaenidae larva and its larvipupal parasitoid of the genus Conura in a periurban area near remnants of the Atlantic Forest, in Northeastern Brazil.

The cereal ground beetle,Zabrus tenebrioides Goeze (Coleoptera: Carabidae) is one of the most important pests of wheat in the southeastern region of Turkey. The larval stage lives in the soil and may cause severe damage to wheat crops. Damage by this pest is favored by a wheat monoculture or the use of untreated seeds. High soil moisture and moderate temperatures are favorable conditions for the development and attack of Z. tenebrioides larvae. The southeastern Anatolia region of Turkey is a hub of cereal production and Z. tenebrioides can attack the seedling stage of cereals in this region, resulting in heavy economic losses. This study was carried out during the years 2015 and 2017 to determine the biology of Z. tenebrioides in the southeastern Anatolia region. Surveys could not be carried out in 2016 as the climatic conditions were not suitable. Adults of this pest were monitored and data on the biology, aestivation and hibernation periods of Z. tenebrioides were recorded. Results indicated that aestivation (the last week of October) and hibernation (at the end of November and most of December) times, and the duration of egg, larval, pupal and adult stages are closely associated with soil temperature and moisture, followed by temperature and humidity of food and air. It was further observed that pest populations increased when the temperature was low and humidity was high, especially in the years receiving high precipitation during early spring and late autumn. The Indian species of the genus Polygraphus Erichson, 1836 (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae) collected from various localities of the Western Himalayan region and the species available at the National Forest Insect Collection (NFIC), Forest Research Institute, Dehradun (India) were studied and are reviewed herewith. A key to Indian species of Polygraphus is provided.
