This article examines the implementation of AAOIFI Standard No. 35 by Saudi Islamic banks and the challenges they encounter. The research reveals that these banks do not adhere to the accounting standards set by AAOIFI, resulting in financial statements that do not accurately reflect their financial position. The reasons for this non-compliance are attributed to the Saudi Banking Law and the instructions of the Saudi Central Bank. The study suggests that regulatory authorities in Saudi Arabia should take steps to amend laws and instructions related to Islamic banks and enforce compliance with AAOIFI accounting standards. This article explores the impact of macroeconomic variables on the solvency of working capital in Islamic banks in Jordan. The study analyzes data from 2005-2021 and finds that economic parameters, with the exception of money supply, are negatively correlated with working capital solvency. The researcher recommends that the government address public debt growth, inflation, and unemployment rate, while increasing the balance of payments and money supply through projects financed by Islamic banks. Improving working capital is expected to lead to increased employment, cash flow, exports, and balance of payments, as well as decreased unemployment and inflation. [Extracted from the article]

Purpose: Promote a country comparative assessment of the Islamic banks economic and financial situation of Islamic banks. Methodology: We used a descriptive and documentary analytical approach. We collected data on Islamic bank financial indicators in 21 countries and analyzed in light of the standards recommended by the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) and the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS). The sample consisted of all countries with available data in the IFSB database (PSIFIs). Data refers to the second quarter of 2018 grouped by countries. We used a simple descriptive statistic, in figures form, to analyze the collected data. Results: This document points out that 90% of Islamic financial institutions (IFIs) in the sample calculate the capital adequacy ratio (CAR) according to BCBS recommendations. In addition, 95% have CARs above 8% (the minimum set by BCBS and IFSB). Therefore, 95% of countries have secure financial systems in terms of bank solvency. In terms of asset quality, the Islamic financial system in Oman showed the best quality in managing its resources. Sudan has shown the highest ratios of profitability in its Islamic banks. In the liquidity analysis, it was not possible to identify precisely which country has the best liquidity ratios in short and long term as more than 60% of the countries did not present sufficient data. In terms of net assets over total assets, and short-term compliance, the Islamic financial systems of Egypt and Afghanistan, respectively, led with better liquidity ratios, showing the ability and security to meet their obligations. Contributions of the Study: Identify countries with the highest / lowest risk considering IFSB and BCBS requirements and recommendations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose – This paper aims to examine the distributional differences of Islamic bank financing responses to financing rate across bank-specific characteristics in dual banking system. The study also aims to provide understanding of how efficiently Islamic banks perform their roles as suppliers of capital for businesses and entrepreneurs. Design/methodology/approach – The study uses panel regression methodology covering all Islamic banks in Malaysia. The study estimates the benchmark model for Islamic bank financing with respect to bank characteristics and monetary policy. Findings – The evidence suggests that bank-specific characteristics are important in determining Islamic financing behaviour. The Islamic financing behaviour is consistent with conventional lending behaviour that the Islamic bank financing operates depending on the level of bank size, liquidity and capital. There is no significant difference between Islamic bank financing and conventional bank lending behaviour with respect to changes in monetary policy. Originality/value – Many problems and challenges relating to Islamic financing instruments, financial markets and regulations must be addressed and resolved. In practice, it would be a good idea if Islamic banks move away from developing debt-based instruments and concentrate more efforts to develop profit and loss sharing instruments.

- Abstract
This study examines whether the multi-layer corporate governance mode of Islamic banking system can prevent Islamic banks from excessive risk taking and hence protect against its fallibility to the global financial crisis. Employing the random-effects GLS method with two-step GMM method for the robustness check and using the dataset of total 154 banks over the period of 2005–2011, the results show that the corporate governance and financial disclosure indices appear as the motivating factors for risk taking attitudes of Islamic banks. Thus, the governance mechanism of Islamic banks is effective in protecting them against their fallibility to the global financial crisis., Este estudio examina si el modo de gobierno corporativo de múltiples capas del sistema bancario islámico puede evitar que los bancos islámicos tomen riesgos excesivos y, por lo tanto, protegerse contra su falibilidad ante la crisis financiera mundial. - Abstract
Islamic and conventional banks differ in basic philosophy and objectives although both perform the same service. This study used cognitive, affective, and conative sequence to examine antecedents and consequences of corporate image of conventional and Islamic banks in Pakistan. Self-administered questionnaires collected empirical data from 320 respondents. It was found that non-firm communication and corporate social responsibility significantly relate to brand familiarity and corporate image in case of Islamic banks. Brand familiarity significantly builds corporate image, which confirms the cognitive, affective, and conative sequence. Corporate image creates positive brand attitude and intention to use banking services. In case of conventional banks, only firm communication significantly relates to corporate image and brand familiarity. The relationship of corporate image with brand attitude and intention to use the service are similar to Islamic banks. This study can help banks to invest in building respective antecedents which can increase intention to use their services., Bancos islâmicos e convencionais diferem em termos de filosofia e objetivos básicos, embora ambos desempenhem o mesmo serviço.
