This essay utilises Suzanne Bachelard's essay 'Forme et Contenu' as an entry point to sketch out the possibility (or impossibility) of a dialectic of mathemata following the work of Jean Cavaillès and Jean Hyppolite. Firstly, I outline what Bachelard sees as a 'dialectic' of form and content in the history of abstract algebra, highlighting a parallel between Bachelard's reading of algebra and Hyppolite reading of the relation of the human subject to logos. Secondly, I move towards Jean Hyppolite's discussion of Lautman in 'Mathematical Thought' which allows for a revealing of convergences between the work of Hyppolite and Cavaillès. I conclude by noting that the similarities between Cavaillès and Hyppolite – despite possible protestations by Hyppolite – go against Hegel's understanding of mathematics, leading to the possibility of opening up a 'Hegelian mathematics against Hegel'. O presente trabalho pretende estabelecer uma interpretação argumentativa da teoria epistemológica na filosofia bachelardiana, a fim de demonstrar o espaço em que se inserem suas reflexões sobre a psicanálise na ordem do desenvolvimento do conhecimento científico. Esta abordagem epistemológica pode ser encontrada em seu conjunto de obras que compõem o que é denominado como a vertente diurna do autor, dentro deste campo de estudos destacamos a obra do ano de 1938, intitulada de: A Formação do Espírito Científico. A partir deste contexto, nossos esforços se concentram, sobretudo, na relação que se estabelece entre sua teoria, para com aspectos conceituais advindos da psicanálise na sua origem freudiana. Abordando a elaboração de uma psicanálise do conhecimento objetivo na epistemologia de Bachelard, elencamos três estruturas teóricas que nos ajudaram a estabelecer esta ponte conectiva para com a psicanálise, sendo estas as noções de: Ruptura, Retificação e de Obstáculo Epistemológico. A partir da reconstrução destes três conceitos como premissas da epistemologia de Bachelard, desenvolve-se posteriormente um aprofundamento das mesmas noções e das relações que elas apresentam entre os conceitos de recalque e de inconsciente, postulados na teoria psicanalítica, bem como a respectiva mudança de âmbito de sentido que o autor aplica vinculado eles ao contexto do conhecimento objetivo.

This article focuses on opera for children, taking a broad overview across time and space. The aim of the research is to identify what constitutes opera for children by embracing its dramaturgical, poetic, imagistic, and symbolic aspects. The chosen approach was sensitive listening to children, and alongside this, exploring important aspects of theory and practice. A case study was used as a framework for analysis — the creative process of the children's opera Bem no Meio, which served as the basis for the production of mini-documentaries in digital snippets. These mini-docs provide pedagogical support for raising awareness and educating students, parents, teachers, and new audiences. They were intended to generate a visual literature of opera for children, a genre that is still little disseminated and studied in Brazil. The research incorporated concepts from the phenomenology of the imagination, particularly those of Gaston Bachelard (2008).

O artigo objetiva discutir a relevância da Teoria Geral dos Complexos na obra do filósofo Gaston Bachelard e autores diversos, considerando que seu olhar sobre o mundo e as coisas é profundo e curioso, remetendo-nos para uma leitura do mundo ao modo do educador-filósofo Paulo Freire. A pesquisa teve início no mestrado e se estendeu por toda a vida da pesquisadora, que compreende quase trinta anos de pesquisa e buscas em redes de internet, revistas, jornais e fontes documentais e bibliográficas. Este artigo trata de discutir a relevância de uma segunda edição, revista e ampliada com realinhamento do título nesta nova versão. A metodologia utilizada foi a crítico-investigativa.

O objetivo deste trabalho é de revisitar dois filósofos contemporâneos, cujas ideias sobre a noção de imaginação são muito próximas. O primeiro é um pensador francês, Gaston Bachelard, de importância inegável. O outro, José Américo Pessanha, é um pensador brasileiro que em seus cursos e conferencias, deixava entrever nas entrelinhas, o ensinamento de suas próprias ideias filosóficas. Os dois filósofos renovam a noção de imaginação, apoiando-se na critica à tradição filosófica. Mostram que a imaginação não pode ser compreendida como simulacro do real percebido, pois isto faria com que esta fosse menosprezada diante da percepção e da ideia. José Américo propõe, então, para corroborar esta tese três exercícios de imaginação, retomando para isso a cosmogonia de Empédocles, analisando depois o quadro de Bosch “A tentação de Santo Antão” que mostra o mundo às avessas e, retomando, por último, o livro de Umberto Ecco procura mostrar que as imagens delirantes que não respeitam a sintaxe natural e ordenada do mundo não são frutos do mal e do pecado de dar asas à imaginação, mas, ao contrário, são resultado de uma hilaridade que provoca o riso e a alegria.

RESUMO: Nosso objetivo é mostrar como Bachelard edifica a noção de vida em sua filosofia ao esboçar uma reflexão sobre o problema filosófico do tempo junto às noções de instante e duração. O livro A intuição do instante (1932), obra dedicada a esta reflexão metafísica sobre o tempo confluindo, quatro anos mais tarde, para A dialética da duração (1936), obra que, por sua vez, define o conceito de duração a partir das várias temporalidades superpostas constitutivas da própria existência, são as referências privilegiadas deste estudo. Ressaltaremos a importância da filosofia de Henri Bergson nesta discussão ao estabelecermos um contraponto entre suas teses sobre a vida e a duração às mesmas teses conceituais bachelardianas, sobretudo a partir da oposição entre as seguintes noções: vida vivida (circunscrita ao tempo comum/tempo transitivo em Bergson) e vida pensada (circunscrita ao tempo do espírito/tempo imanente em Bachelard). Partimos da hipótese a ser debatida de que é porque o espírito pode chocar-se com a vida vulgar, escorregadia e homogênea que a vida superior, ou seja, do próprio espírito, deve ser entendida nesta filosofia bachelardiana como sendo uma construção racional ancorada em uma dialética pluralista de saberes sobre o tempo. RESUMO: Este texto consiste em um estudo inicial sobre a poética de Fausto Antonio. A exposição dar-se-á a partir da interpretação da obra Poética do Devaneio de Gaston Bachelard. A proposta é de empreender a análise das profundidades das imagens impressas na escrita do nosso poeta. Nesse sentido, os espaços localizados entre a superfície e a profundidade de um texto sendo desvelados anunciam uma nova sintaxe a qual empregamos o termo: virada; que se traduz como uma inversão por meio da contradição. E o todo ontológico-poético se acomoda na ancestralidade destes espaços contraditórios. Esperamos a partir deste texto apresentar nossa proposta com o objetivo de melhor esclarecê-la ao longo da possibilidade de futuras publicações. Palavras-chave: Fausto Antonio; Bachelard; imagens. RÉSUMÉ: Ce texte se compose d'une première étude sur la poétique de Fausto Antonio. L'exposition donnera de l'interprétation de œuvre La Poétique de la Reverie de Gaston Bachelard. En ce sens, les espaces situés entre la surface et la profondeur étant dévoilé annonçant une nouvelle syntaxe qui utilisent le terme: tounant; qui se traduit par une inversion au moyen de la contradiction. Et le tout ontologique poétique qui installe les ancêtres de ces espaces contradictoires. Embora a filosofia de Bachelard não se refira a Deus, ela traz uma concepção de imaginação que apresenta pontos comuns com a defendida por Nicolas Berdiaeff. Este artigo tenta discerni-los e mostrar que os caminhos da surrealidade abertos por Bachelard são uma outra maneira de viver o processo de co-criação do mundo, associando o homem a Deus, como o enfocara o filósofo russo numa perspectiva teológica.

As relações entre Gaston Bachelard e o Surrealismo são inúmeras. Ao analisá-las em detalhe, são ressaltadas as interações, algumas divergências, mas, sobretudo as crenças comuns. Estas repousam essencialmente sobre o poder da imaginação de transformar o universo.

In his recently published 1975–76 seminar on Life Death (§3), Jacques Derrida offers a severe critique of French epistemologists and philosophers of life. On Derrida's view, they do not seem to be concerned with the question of the metaphoricity of metaphor but, rather, by taking the epistemological cut between (inadequate) metaphors and (adequate) concepts for granted, they explain the scientific process as a movement of critical rectification of metaphors by concepts. Moreover, they do not engage with Nietzsche seriously. Here I build on this last point to examine the project of accounting for the very condition of the scientific process that Derrida puts forward in 'White Mythology' (1971) and Life Death. My reading hypothesis is that this project rests on Derrida's original interpretation of Nietzsche's Darwinian-type genesis of thinking, according to which selective reproduction consists in the metaphoricity of metaphor. Este artigo tem por objetivo identificar obstáculos epistemológicos no processo de construção do conceito de função a partir de obstáculos listados por Sierpinska (1992). Inicialmente, apresentamos de forma sintética a noção de obstáculos epistemológicos fundamentado em Bachelard (1996) e abordaremos como Brousseau (1986) sistematizou o conceito de obstáculo epistemológico na Educação Matemática. Por conseguinte, apresentamos os 16 obstáculos epistemológicos de função listado por Sierpinska (1992), nosso principal referencial teórico. Para alcançar nosso objetivo, desenvolvemos um questionário que nos permitiram analisar que os obstáculos identificados pela autora supracitada também estão presentes e de que modo aparecem no alunado atual de nossa região. A investigação realizada está focada no contexto do Ensino Médio, mais especificamente, com estudantes que estavam cursando a 1ª série do Instituto Federal Goiano (IF Goiano), situado no município de Campos Belos-GO. Os resultados indicam que alguns obstáculos epistemológicos apresentados pela Sierpinska (1992) ainda estão resistentes quando os estudantes aprendem sobre o conceito de função no Ensino Médio.

In this paper, I discuss Gaston Bachelard's criticism of Henri Bergson's employment of intuition as the specific method of philosophy, and as a reliable means of acquiring knowledge. I locate Bachelard's criticism within the reception of Bergsonian intuition by rationalist philosophers who subscribed to the Third Republic's ethos. I argue that the reasons of Bachelard's rejection of Bergsonian intuition were not only epistemological, but also ethical and pedagogical. Honoring a person or an event, public monuments interrupt geographical landscapes and point to a temporal past asking us to stop, to look, and to engage memory. They invite reveries as the word, monument, derives from the Latin word monēre, meaning ‘to remind.’ In effect, they occupy public spaces asking for private thoughts that problematize a referentiality dependent on identity. An analysis of Yusef Komunyakaa’s poem “Facing It,” based on viewing the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C., illustrates the way monuments offer a phenomenological space for an individual’s transformation. Yet in addition to an interiority the poem captures, the monument itself reifies politically official and unofficial messaging, an ambivalence that further muddies the referentiality it reifies because it privileges one cultural identity over others. The theories from the phenomenologist Gaston Bachelard, the psychoanalyst Jacque Lacan, and the literary critic Cathy Caruth provide the framework for investigating the loss and the gain from the construction and the removal of monuments.

No campo da educação matemática, há pesquisas que discutem sobre o olhar que as pessoas possuem sobre o ensino de matemática em contexto escolar, expondo o pensamento de que a matemática é difícil de ser compreendida, ou ainda, a vontade de evitá-la. No entanto, acreditamos que o processo da escolarização pode contribuir para a superação de desafios e dificuldades enfrentadas, em relação à aprendizagem de conteúdos da disciplina. Assim, no presente artigo, estabelecemos como objetivo compreender possíveis obstáculos epistemológicos que se apresentam à construção da cognição matemática em contexto escolar. Para tanto, tivemos como aporte teórico a teoria bachelardiana, e realizamos uma pesquisa bibliográfica de artigos científicos no banco de dados da Scielo, delimitando o período de 2011 a 2021. Verificamos que as crianças aprendem as noções e os conteúdos matemáticos em decorrência de processos complexos que implicam uma construção, trilhando o caminho do concreto ao abstrato, na sistematização dos conhecimentos matemáticos.

Rhythm is generally taken to refer to a temporal pattern of events. Yet in recent years, across diverse fields in the arts, humanities, and social sciences, it has come to serve as the conceptual marker for a wide range of new approaches to understanding relations and relationality, following most explicitly from the late work of Henri Lefebvre. This article explores the temporal aspect of such relational thinking, in particular asking how time is implicated in relations, and how it can be meaningful in those relations. The sense of time is surveyed from the perspectives of both cognition and metaphysics as well as with reference to music scholarship and social theory, and key threads are drawn, from the writings of Gaston Bachelard and Charles Sanders Peirce in particular, in order to suggest that time can be a sign, and that the signifying properties of rhythm have critical social consequences. Este trabalho propõe uma reflexão acerca do ensino de Física, seja na educação básica ou superior, considerando a Filosofia da Ciência, na tese de Gaston Bachelard, como prática pedagógica e associando-a ao paradigma específico do professor reflexivo, proposto por Donald Schön. Trata-se de um estudo teórico-reflexivo de natureza exploratória com abordagem qualitativa, que enxerga a Física além do ensino de suas teorias e práticas experimentais. Desse modo, idealiza-se que o ensino de Física possa promover discussões acerca do funcionamento da Ciência e sua interação com as diferentes áreas do conhecimento humano, assim como suas implicações na sociedade. Para isso, considera-se então, a questão da formação de profissionais reflexivos que, no que se trata especificamente da formação de discentes de cursos de Licenciatura em Física, possam contribuir para um processo de ensino-aprendizagem mais amplo e inter-relacionado com a vida cotidiana e no que diz respeito aos estudantes do Ensino Médio, que possam compreender a contribuição da ciência para a geração de tecnologias que impactam a sociedade e perceber seu papel diante desse contexto.

As well as neo-Kantianism, phenomenology and analytical philosophy, French historical epistemology also had its emergence in the context of the crisis of the sciences at the turn of the 20th century. Due to their own developments, the works of Gaston Bachelard and Georges Canguilhem broke, each in its path, respectively with the neo-Kantianism represented by Brunschvicg (in Bachelard's case) and by Alain (in Canguilhem's case). In this article, we propose to draw some epistemological, ethical, and political consequences of these two ruptures, briefly analyzing the particularities of each of the two cases. Geographic accounts of caving have critiqued the propensity of affects and practices which reinforce EuroAmerican coloniality and hubris, while also finding alternative paths of intimacy and lively relationality. Yet subsurface geographies can also reinforce cliched spatial and moral topographies. This article reflects on the production of an ambivalent affect of "dark humor" in caves, through caver social worlds, and in cave writing and song. I use a Bachelardian phenomenology of the imagination as a method of interpreting the geopoetics of cave space and cave emotion related topologically rather than topographically into easy interior/exterior or surface/depth oppositions. Through Jan and Herb Conn's cave ballads and poetry, imaginative place names, and accounts of irritating struggles with manganese, a different emotional culture of caving is produced than the masculine risk-seeking one might expect. Nonetheless, such phenomenological focus on immediacy of creative imagination risks precluding broader historical-political contexts of settler coloniality. Seeking a position between "ruthlessly critical" or "post-critically evasive" analyses, I consider how the Conns produced an "anti-heroic" attitude useful beyond caving and the politics of the subsurface but without purity or innocence. • Caving evokes emotions through the space of the cave and the cultural world of caving. • Herb and Jan Conn mobilized a disarming "dark humor" through their geopoetics. • The phenomenology of Gaston Bachelard clarifies a non-mathematical topology of caves. • The fraught colonial context of caving is considered alongside "anti-heroic" geopoetics. The poetry of Hanni Ossott (1946-2002) is hardly known beyond Venezuelan frontiers, and so is any domestic or foreign research, almost non-existent, about her published works, an exception being El reino donde la noche se abre (1987). Such a scenario, unfortunately, continues to be so regarding her other works, especially the ones published thereafter. For this reason, this article will focus on one of her later poetry books, Casa de agua y de sombras (1992), since, as will be argued, it might be the most relevant one to understand the spatial-subjective processes that characterize the Ossottian oeuvre. Drawing upon Bachelard’s theories of space, this paper will attempt to explain how the poet goes from the versification of abstract and hostile space to the poetry of lived space, which will offer answers to her identity dilemma: we are nothing more than what we inhabit. In this article I reconstruct, discuss, and develop both the understanding of scientific practice and philosophy set forth by Pierpaolo Cesaroni in his book, La vita dei concetti. Hegel, Bachelard, Canguilhem. As regards the understanding of science, I focus on the investigation of the distinction between activity subjected to norms and activity elaborating norms. I also consider a number of connected issues, including the one relating to that particular form of necessity implied in the elaboration of a scientific concept. As to the understanding of philosophy, I distinguish the several intellectual performances which can be deemed as philosophical. RESUMO O artigo propõe-se a explorar, a partir de uma posição bachelardiana, as relações entre imaginação e horror. Para tanto, examino o campo dos sonhos vividos durante o regime de terror nazista, e em especial o material onírico e a experiência vivida por Jean Cayrol no universo concentracionário, pondo à prova teses fundamentais da concepção bachelardiana acerca da imaginação criadora em sua significação antropológico-existencial.

Tras su inicial aproximación en los años veinte a la filosofía de Husserl y Heidegger, Levinas inició una década más tarde su propia reelaboración crítica del método fenomenológico. El artículo tiene como objetivo analizar la nueva comprensión de la labor fenomenológica por parte del joven Levinas a partir de sus reflexiones sobre el arte, en diálogo con el pensamiento de Gastón Bachelard, quien en la misma época propuso un intercambio fructífero entre estética y fenomenología.

Assim como o neokantismo, a fenomenologia e a filosofia analítica, também a epistemologia histórica francesa teve sua emergência no contexto da crise das ciências na virada para o século XX. Por seus desdobramentos particulares, as obras de Gaston Bachelard e de Georges Canguilhem romperam, cada uma a seu modo, respectivamente com o neokantismo representado por Brunschvicg (no caso de Bachelard) e por Alain (no caso de Canguilhem). Neste artigo, propomos tirar algumas consequências epistemológicas, éticas e políticas dessas duas rupturas, analisando brevemente as particularidades de cada um dos dois casos.

For one of the specific and significant features of the style of current scientific knowledge is the integration of the historical perspective in the actual scientific construction, due to the fact that the deep methodological and conceptual changes that affect the general frameworks, assumptions and structures require to put to work the entire history of science in order to determine its possible directions of future development, my paper is an attempt to set forth a brief account on French historical epistemology, mainly on Bachelard’s work and his influence on Foucault. Therefore, I will focus on his reflections on the relationship between consciousness and reality, rational knowledge and affective knowledge, on the significance of the “epistemological obstacles”, on the sources of errors in the process of knowledge, on how to purify the process of knowledge in order to ensure scientific certainty, with a particular emphasis on his “psychoanalysis of scientific knowledge”. Bill Brown's phenomenal essay "Thing Theory" (2001) has paved a new way for reexamining this affiliation. This paper is an attempt to study the different roles of miniatures in shaping the life of Petronella Oortman, a seventeenth-century Dutch woman. In so doing, the paper closely reads Jessie Burton's The Miniaturist (2014). A nostalgia that acquires political aspects in the young Elisabeth, who is facing the loss of rights and liberties in the Brexit Great Britain. We then reflect on her childhood memories and Daniel’s recurrent nostalgia for his dead sister and the forgotten painter Pauline Boty. These situations are framed by the autumn that hangs over them, but allows the emergence of shades of colour from which the desolate environment can be surmounted. I examine this kaleidoscope of melancholic aspects, which concludes with the modern melancholy, posited by Bartra, and the consideration of the transcription with the ink of melancholy that, as Starobinski says, transforms darkness into light.

In this paper, I will analyse Joan Didion’s poetics of praise and mourning in her first published novel, Run River, understanding the Western landscape she presents in it as an instance of Gaston Bachelard’s idea of the childhood home as a felicitous, eulogised space. I will argue that Didion’s depiction of the Sacramento Valley and the struggle of the families inhabiting it to accept the changing face of the landscape results in a jeremiad narrative of the West as paradise lost. Reflecting on the limitations both of Bachelard’s discussion of the childhood home and of the West as a mythographic space, I will conclude by assessing Didion’s topophilia and her ambiguous stance as a Western writer.

The article aims at exploring the possibilities of establishing connections between Heidegger and Bachelard from the perspective of space, world, dwelling, and house. We used works written by Heidegger between 1936 and 1939, after the "second" period, and those written by Bachelard between 1933 and 1948, which deal more with earth and space. Reflection on the similarities and differences between the philosophers makes it possible to find points of divergence and convergence. The latter are greater than the former in the possible in-between spaces, mainly regarding the views on art, but not that many with respect to the language used by each one. For this reason, the breaks in the possible continuity of these philosophic views are challenging and encourage further reflection.

Nas obras A intuição do instante (1932) e A dialética da duração (1936), o problema do tempo nos é apresentado em paralelo a um psicologismo temporal bachelardiano que objetivamos situar. Inicialmente, será através de um não-bergsonismo — ou seja, um bergsonismo generalizado — que convirá introduzirmos as nuances psicológicas das teses bachelardianas, elencando: 1) sua interpretação de memória, amparada pelas teses sobre a conduta do psicólogo Pierre Janet (contra a imediaticidade) e 2) a evidenciação do dinamismo e liberdade presentes na psyché a partir da valorização da ideia de intervalos imanentes às estruturas temporais da consciência (descontinuidade).
