Resumen En las últimas cuatro décadas la literatura sobre desempeño ambiental y responsabilidad social ha demostrado que los programas ambientales representan una herramienta que apoya a las empresas a mejorar su desempeño ambiental y económico, sin embargo en México no existe suficiente evidencia empírica que lo pruebe, por lo que el objetivo de esta investigación es analizar la influencia de los programas voluntarios ambientales en el desempeño económico de las empresas mexicanas, la literatura argumenta que aquellas empresas que pertenecen a un programa ambiental voluntario y están certificadas, reducen sus consumos y ahorran gastos; se analizaron 45 empresas que están en el Programa Nacional de Auditoría Ambiental (PNAA) de la Procuraduría Federal del Protección al Ambiente (PROFEPA) y se encuentran en el ranking de las empresas más exitosas de México de la revista CNN Expansión en el año 2020; mediante un análisis de ANOVA de dos factores, se encontraron diferencias significativas entre la certificación ambiental y el desempeño económico de las empresas, se concluye que la certificación ambiental influye de forma positiva en el desempeño económico de las empresas, ya que disminuye sus gastos al reducir sus consumos. Abstract In the last four decades, the literature on environmental performance and social responsibility has shown that environmental programs represent a tool that supports companies to improve their environmental and economic performance, however, in Mexico there is not enough empirical evidence to prove it. The main purpose of this research is to analyze the influence of voluntary environmental programs on the economic performance of Mexican companies; the literature argues that those firms that belong to a voluntary environmental program and are certified, reduce their consumption and save expenses; 45 firms were analyzed that are in the National Environmental Audit Program (PNAA) of the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA) and are in the ranking of the most successful companies in Mexico by CNN Expansion magazine in 2020; Through an ANOVA analysis of two factors, significant differences were found between environmental certification and the economic performance of companies, it is concluded that environmental certification positively influences the economic performance of companies, since it decreases their expenses by reducing their consumption., Un Espacio para la Ciencia, libro científico arbitrado.
